WIP Wednesday

So I got today to write 6k and finish this chapter if I wanna stay on track…. And I got stuff scheduled all day.

This is not looking promising… maybe by the end of the week?

From: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter 10: FUBAR, Danny’s POV

Fic summary:

When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.

Tags/warnings: kidnapped eddie, first draft, NavySeal!buck, alternative universe, timeline what timeline?, set vaguely season 3 911 and I’m not giving a time frame for H50 (because it wouldn’t make sense anyway). Written while sleep deprived.

Danny rubs his temples, fighting off a looming headache. He’s been staring at his own terrible cramped handwriting for hours. Steve’s fingers replace his, and he lets his eyes close with a groan as Steve rubs his neck and temples. 

“You got another headache?” Steve’s voice is gentle and soft. He’s practically sitting on Danny’s desk as he hovers, but Danny doesn’t care. They’re alone in the office, and if Steve wants to touch him, Danny’s going to let him. 

“Yeah.”

“I can get you some ibuprofen or Tylenol?”

“Took some with the Alka-Seltzer earlier.” Danny will pay for Steve to keep up the neck massage he’s giving. Steve’s fingers are digging into the knot that had been forming between Danny’s shoulders, and when it releases, he bites his tongue to stop from moaning. 

“You didn’t eat.” There’s disapproval and worry in Steve’s tone. 

“Wasn’t hungry.”  

He wasn’t.  

“This has been sitting out too long now. Do you want me to order something?”

“Let me rephrase. I am not hungry right now, nor was I.”

Steve chuckles, and his fingers find another knot, working into Danny’s left shoulder that he’d slept on last night on the sofa for a few hours. He’s ignoring Danny’s grumbling like usual. 

“These headaches of yours worry me.”  

Danny opens his eyes at this. Steve is close—closer than he’d thought. He’s wrapped himself around Danny, and they’re not touching other than where Steve’s hands are still rubbing his shoulders, but he can feel his body heat because Steve is that close. 

Steve’s observing Danny, waiting for him to say something about the concern he’d voiced, and Danny is floundering with what to say. He stupidly lands on, “They’re just headaches.”

“You’ve been getting a lot of them.”

“I get them when I’m stressed.”

“You get them less when you sleep over.”

“That’s because I sleep better at your place,” slips out before he can take the words back. 

“Why?”

It’s an innocuous question. Why? Why, indeed.  

He has his theories. Danny had slept better when he was still married and sharing a bed with Rachel, and he could roll over and cuddle with her, listening to her breathe. He slept worse when alone because he hated being alone. It’d never been a problem until he and Rachel had started having problems, and she’d kicked him to the couch most nights, denying him coldly. 

Danny was like a dog that needed a companion or otherwise would tear things apart out of anxiety—he needed another heartbeat to listen to in the night. Sleeping at Steve’s and knowing he was just upstairs or hearing his footsteps when he got up at night to do his patrols around the house that Steve swore he didn’t do but Danny had watched him do every night he’d slept over unless Steve was drugged or concussed… there was a rhythm to those nights. They usually watched a movie after dinner or a game and sat too close on the couch because Danny was too tactile, and Steve seemed to crave touch as much as Danny needed to give it.

Confessing this to Steve, however, was probably not in Danny’s best interest. Knowing Steve, he’d have Danny moved in by the end of the week, and Danny needed just a little bit of space for when Steve would inevitably find either another woman or Cath would finally wander back his way. 

Danny didn’t need a front-row seat to Steve choosing a leggy brunette or blonde over him. He was already going to be too close, and it would hurt when it finally happened. If Steve is talking to Cath, then… she will probably come back at some point. Danny hadn’t known they’d still been talking after she left him in Afghanistan a year ago to go chasing after missing villagers and hadn’t wanted Steve’s help.

He could easily tell that he was getting on Matt's last nerve about this ; but it wasn't coming from a place of maliciousness. He looks after Matt because he's more than his friend - he's family. And once the taller man can get that through his thick skull the better.

" You know what? I get it. You're tired of us interfering, giving you our commentary about your relationship -- but why can't you see we're just looking out for you ? That we love you, we care about you and you're making great strides here. But her ? I get a vibe, buddy. And it's not good. You know my grandma was all about her vibes. And she was never wrong." but that didn't mean Danny couldn't be. He just didn't think he was.

" But you know what? I'm going to stop. If she makes you happy she makes you happy. I"ll step off. "

90,518 which seems insane to me. I'll definitely be at over 100k by the time The Weight of Grief is finished.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

911 Lone Star now, but have written for MCU, Teen Wolf, Hawaii 5-0, CSI, and Harry Potter.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

It's all my old fics because they've been around so long! But Silence and Gloom is inching it's way into top 5 territory soon.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always do now. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate every comment. I used to not because someone had made a post once that responding was just a way to fake out readers that you had more comments on your fic than you really did. But I got over that haha.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't think I have one? I like happy endings. They at least all end hopeful. My angstiest fics are probably To Be Okay because it deals with the aftermath of rape. And then The Weight of Grief.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Green Eyes, Blue Skies because of the reunion scene.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I haven't on AO3, but at the beginning of the summer I was dealing with some anon hate, but I just delete and block.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, a little. I don't feel like I'm very good at it and I've only ever written one fic where it's the main focus.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't, but I daydream about them a lot haha.

Way back in the fanfic.net days, but not anything recently.

I have so many Teen Wolf wips that will probably never be finished.

Ugh...I don't have any...maybe dialogue? That's what I get complimented on the most.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Oh everything. I'm terrible at expecting everyone to know what's going on inside my head, but not helping them get from point to point. Also, if I get tired of writing a scene I'll just end it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I do it, but sometimes I just write it all in English because I worry about anyone that can't read the language being taken out of the story.

Oh this is hard. The Weight of Grief has required the most skill and is really making me work hard, so I appreciate that. But then I had so much fun writing Green Eyes, Blue Skies because it was purely a fun idea that I really wanted to read, so I wrote it myself.

What fandoms are you in? It seems you are in a lot!

Right now I'm only really active in Supernatural fandom, and that's mostly to keep my hyperfixation intact.

I'm also in Walker fandom, but the fixation isn't as high (yet?)

But some recent (last 5ish years) fandoms I've "collected" (read: not creating content or reading fanfiction, but interested in posts/sometimes searching out non-fic content) are: Hannibal, The Boys, Invincible, The Office, Community, SPOP, Fear Street, Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, and an extreme interest in 911 though I haven't watched it yet. 2) What’s your total AO3 word count? My total word count is 292, 547.

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? That I've posted on AO3? Three of them. 911, Hawaii Five-0, and SEAL Team. If we are talking anything I've written ever? Oh man, I don't really know. I've written stuff for LOTR, POTC, The Brave, Flashpoint, The Flash, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Graceland, CSI, Supernatural ... how far back into my fandom closet are going here kids? Let's just round it to 15 and say most of them you cannot find anymore.

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos? #1 - Through the Darkness (H50) #2 - For God and Country (H50) #3 - Pull the Pin (911) #4 - Signs of Life (911) #5 - Hold Me Up (911)

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I don't even have to think about that one. It's easily The End Comes Near. I've had so many people yell at me for that one! Ambiguous endings tend to do that lol. But, I love it honestly. It's one of my favorites.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? Due to subject matter, probably Code Word: Penguin. I mean ... proposal fic. In a close second (and mostly because I love it so much) would be Here's To Everyone (But Mostly Us).

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? I have not written a crossover and probably won't. I don't know why, but my brain doesn't really work that way? Like I have no problems ditching canon for anything else, but when it comes to adding a different set of characters, my brain just goes No Thank You. Even for 911 which has 911 LS and had a crossover ep ... i just can't.

8) Do you write smut? If so what kind? I have. Nothing explicit and nothing in current fandoms. If it fits in a story I will, but I've never written a full on PWP.

9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? So I feel like a jerk, but most times I don't. And it's not because I'm unappreciative of them, because I adore each and every one I get. It's just that I'm an idiot. I get the notification of comments and I read them right away and go to respond but hesitate. It's like the how soon is too soon to respond conundrum. Too fast and y'all will think I'm crazy and stalk AO3 for kudos and comments (I don't, I swear), but if I wait too late will it just be like 'what was this from again?'. So I wait and then I'm jerk and never end up responding. So if you are reading this, know that I absolutely love every comment I get and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for leaving it! I truly appreciate it.

10) Have you ever received hate on a fic? No. I have had people yell at me for how it ended (*cough* The End Comes Near *cough*) But no, thankfully, no one has ever left me hate for a fic.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of! But I know people have had this happen to them and it sucks.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! I had someone reach out to me for permission to translate one of my fics to French.

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, I've never had a true co-writer before. I've had someone that I've bounced ideas off of, talked through every aspect of the fic with, but never someone that has actually written with me. I am open to it though.

14) What’s your all time favorite ship? Oh man. I don't think I can say "All Time Favorite" because fandoms change.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I don't think any of them are going to be abandoned, at least not the active ones. I try not to start working on something until I'm ready to dive in to it.

16) What are your writing strengths? I would say probably imagery and emotions? I love to get into descriptions and pinpoint little details to make a scene a little more vibrant.

17) What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue. I don't know how it reads to others, but writing dialogue is always a struggle for me.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Unless it's a phrase a character says constantly in canon (like a catchphrase? or like a mantra?), I won't put dialogue in another language.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? The first one that I actually wrote for was Lord of the Rings. The first one I actually posted for would be Pirates of the Caribbean.

She is not surprised that Danny and April have been in Matt's ear. They have been since the moment she came on the scene - literally. After an arrest made and the coverage it got, Taylor knew a thing or two. One ; Matt is a very good looking man. The other? There is always a story with him. She wanted to get to know the man behind the badge but it seemed that others would rather she keep her distance. She's not surprised, especially by April.

" You realize she's probably in love with you, right? " she asks Matt as she looks at him. " Why do you think she's behaving like this? Out of her good heart ? " Taylor just smiles, shaking her head. " Pretty sure that's some violation against some doctoring code, though..."

We're not...❞ there is a pause as she has to look away ; the sadness hard to ignore in her eyes. ❝ You're just my patient. And we should keep it professional. So I will not give you unsolicited advice on your life and you...will only see me the next time you need something patched.❞

It hurts, those words, now hanging heavy on her heart. It shouldn't, but damn, she thought that they were at least friends with their banter and flirting but he's made it clear that they're nothing aside from doctor and patient but maybe they shouldn't even be that.

❝ You know what? Maybe it's better if you just get a whole other doctor all together. Next time you come in ask for anyone else. That way you don't have to worry about me interfering with you at all. ❞

𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒔 even more as he listens to April's attempt to backpedal. Despite the biting words exchanged, there is a part of him that understands the impulse behind her concerns—even if they feel invasive. His stance relaxed slightly, but his tone still carries the distinctive sharpness of a man pushed to his limits.

❝ It’s all I want, April. I’ve written for marvel, star wars, star trek, 911, 911 lone star, hawaii five 0, how to get away with murder! most of my words are for star trek and hawaii five 0 (here’s a link to my ao3 🙈)

(any ship that’s popular that is toxic/pedophilic/incestual is a no for me) but other than that not really, there are a couple of popular ships that I don’t ship but I don’t necessarily dislike them, they just never really clicked with me I guess

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Austin Bound! its my 911 and 911 lone star crossover fic and I’m really happy with how its coming together as it progresses! and the response to it has been beyond amazing so that makes me very happy too! I’m excited to continue writing it! also on a writer’s level, I haven’t been feeling the best about my writing for some time and it took me a while to feel okay about my writing again, but this fic is the first fic in a while where I feel satisfied with my writing! 

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

99% of my ships are popular ones but I do ship tony and logan which I honestly feel needs more attention fhgkjsghs I’ve been shipping it for a couple of years now, me and my friend have really gotten into the ship and came up with lots of headcanons and aus and even ideas within the avengers and x men universes and it works! (I have a few logantony fics on my ao3) and also we get to see logan and tony’s dynamic in some comics too so I really enjoy that!

I swear is the last one but I just wanted to say I been going through all the fics of buddie , there fucking amazing *chef kiss*. anyway I just want to tell the person who mentioned a crossover of Hawaii 5-0 and 911 [ Mcdanno / Buddie ] I didn't know the ship mcdanno or the show h5-0 only brief mention of it . so someone posted the idea I mentioned , me not knowing the other pair I went to do some research .
