Ian Abel Band Explores Heartache and Hope in Bilingual Rock Single “Stay Here”
Ian Abel Band, fronted by international award-winning guitarist Ian Abel, have shared their new single, “Stay Here,” a Southern rock love song that combines both English and Portuguese. This track blends the raw power of classic rock with the soul of Americana, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. Known for his passionate guitar playing and compelling lyrics, Ian Abel has once again demonstrated his ability to touch hearts and minds with his music. “Stay Here” is now available to download and stream on platforms worldwide. “Stay Here” was inspired by a brief but impactful romance between Ian Abel and a Brazilian woman who had to return to her country. “Coitadinho de mim, afogando a saudade,” which loosely translates to “poor me, I’m drowning in the sorrow of missing you,” is just a sample of how Abel’s lyrics reflect the deep sense of longing and heartache that comes with such separations. The song’s unique blend of rock and samba elements highlights Abel’s diverse musical influences and his commitment to honoring different musical traditions. “‘Stay Here’ is a love song of unorthodox beginnings,” reveals Abel. “It started out with a short relationship I had with a Brazilian woman who had to go back to Brazil because her student visa expired. It was fairly recent when I went to my friend and co-writer, Westray Tackett’s, house to hang out and work on a completely different song. He showed me a brief snippet of an idea he had (which is the acoustic guitar and vocal part in the intro), and something about the somber nature of that struck me. I asked for the chords, went home, and the song practically wrote itself.” Mixed by Evan Redwine from Nashville, TN, and mastered by GRAMMY-award-winning engineer Alan Douches (Sufjan Stevens, Angel Olsen, Fleetwood Mac) of West West Side Music, the track offers a polished yet deeply emotional listening experience. Ian Abel’s musical journey began at age 15 with a Christmas gift of a guitar, inspired by the movie School of Rock. Since then, he has honed his craft, drawing influences from a diverse array of artists, including David Gilmour, Jason Isbell, and Chris Stapleton. The Ian Abel Band’s breakout moment came when their song “Shoes” was featured in a promotional video for All Elite Wrestling’s inaugural pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, garnering international attention. Abel previously toured with Grand Ole Opry member T. Graham Brown as lead guitarist and headlined iconic Los Angeles venues such as the Troubadour, Whisky A Go Go, and Viper Room. His music has received praise from popular regional radio station 91.9 WFPK for “creating an expansive, stadium-ready rock sound,” and other notable publications like Grateful Web, antiMusic, and The Alternate Root. As the band continues to innovate and push the boundaries of their musical style, listeners can anticipate more heartfelt and genre-blending tracks in the future. Ian Abel Band remains committed to delivering powerful performances and connecting with fans through their evocative music via live performances. Stream “Stay Here” now and stay connected with Ian Abel Band on Instagram @ianabelband, TikTok @ianabelband, and their website IanAbel.Band for updates on upcoming releases and tour dates. “Exile was a song that was written about miscommunications in relationships, and in the case of this song I imagine that the miscommunications ended the relationship - that they led to sort of the demise of this love affair. And now these two people are seeing each other out for the first time and they keep miscommunicating with each other, they can’t quite get on the same page, they never were able to. So even in their end, even after they’ve broken up they’re still not hearing each other, so we imagined that the beginning of it would be his side of the story, second verse would be her side of the story, and then the end would be sort of them talking over each other and not listening to the other, sort of like an argument. Yeah, I’m really stoked about how it turned out because it really does seem like this sort of tragedy of two people, two ships passing in the night.”

David Duchovny: "Its tough to have your own mind." - 91.9 WFPK Independent Louisville
have your own mind.”
By Kyle Meredith
IN THE STUDIO
December 15, 2020
David Duchovny spends some time with Kyle Meredith to discuss his new single, Layin’ On the Tracks, and upcoming 3rd album, Gestureland. The X-Files legend tells us about being inspired by the book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind and how daily politics has been a fairly new part of his life, and how he’s finding his voice as a songwriter. Also a NYT best-selling author, Duchovny talks about his upcoming fourth novel, Truly Like Lightning, about a desert dwelling Morman family and their resistance to the harms of the outside world, which he says he’s also pitched to Showtime to hopefully develop into a television show. After 3 years away from acting, Duchovny recently returned in The Craft: Legacy, and he tells us about that experience, what he did in the interim (including almost shooting an adaptation of Bucky F*cking Dent), and playing socially progressive characters throughout his career that include Twin Peaks, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, Red Shoe Diaries, and The X-Files.

Waterfront Wednesday Never Fails to Wow Kentucky: A Concert Review
A Waterfront Wednesday is an event that perfectly encompasses the spirit of Kentucky. For those who have not had the pleasure of experiencing this event, Waterfront Wednesday is a free outdoor concert held on the last Wednesday of every month during the summer season. Taking place on Louisville’s Big Four Lawn, 91.9 WFPK puts on a mini music festival dedicated to the celebration of all things local music. I had the opportunity to attend my first Waterfront Wednesday in almost 2 years this past week, and it’s safe to say that it was well worth the wait.
The first act was Peter Searcy, a Louisville native who has been playing music in town for decades. Most might know him from his band Squirrel Bait, an 80’s hardcore group that would eventually make up the pieces to local legends Slint. I was excited to see a local legend like Searcy perform but his music ended up being something I was not prepared for. Searcy has since traded his punkish vibe in for a more classic rock sound, something that I was uneasy about at first but I eventually came to love. This change in demeanor is only a demonstration of his musical prowess.
After Searcy, the group Hollis Brown took the stage. Named after one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs, this group conveyed a southern sound despite their New York origins. I had heard their song “Ride on the Train” before and their live rendition of it was just as good if not better. Their set captivated the crowd and set a perfect mood just as the sun was setting over the Ohio River.
The night at Waterfront Wednesday went out with a bang. Nashville favorites The Mavericks took the stage with a band featuring an upright bass, saxophone, and my personal favorite, the accordion. I wasn’t very familiar with the music of The Mavericks but if you saw me during this show you wouldn’t believe that. The Mavericks struck a chord with me and the crowd that evoked a nostalgic feeling of a classic band that makes you just want to dance. The best moment of the show that encompassed this was near the end of the set when they covered the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout.” It was a pretty magical experience to hear the entire Waterfront sing in harmony to a classic song like that.
If Waterfront Wednesday sounds like something you’d be interested in, the next one is on June 28th featuring Pokey Lafarge, Robyn Hitchcock, and Carly Johnson. Review and photos by Avery Rondinelli

“The story behind writing Coney Island - Aaron Dessner had sent me this track that he had created with his brother Bryce and I wrote the lyrics and the melody with William Bowery. I think I might have been coming from a place of somebody who’s been in a relationship for decades and wakes up one day and realizes that they have taken their partner completely for granted. So whether you wanna look at it from the perspective of somebody who’s in a new relationship or very long-standing relationship, I think it just really speaks to if people are trying to communicate but they’re two ships passing in the night, they’re trying to love each other but their signals are somehow missing each other - I just found that really interesting... and yeah, we’re really proud of this one. There were elements of it that immediately reminded me of Matt Berninger‘s vocal stylings and his writing, and I kind of targeted some of the lyrics of the second verse to sound sort of like what he might do - cause I hoped that he might sing on it. Because, you know, we already had two members of The National on the song, with Aaron and Bryce. So we got our wish and Matt sang on this song. I think he did an amazing job, I’m such a huge fan of the band and I’m really honored this was able to come together with The National.”
– Taylor Swift about writing “Coney Island” (91.9 WFPK Independent Louisville: Kyle Meredith Show, January 13th 2021)

COREY TAYLOR Slams DONALD TRUMP: ‘The Cheeto Can’t Lead’
In a new interview with Louisville’s 91.9 WFPK radio station, SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor spoke about the lack of political lyrical themes on his upcoming debut solo album, CMFT, which arrives this Friday (Sep. 2).
Honestly, I actually hint at it on ‘Culture Head’, and I come at it from the standpoint of being in the middle,” he said. “Obviously, I’m much more liberal than…
