The Story
This track is hot.
AWAY's soundscapes and Koda's vocals uncannily recall 90s rock and grunge and bring the entire decade into the 21st century with insane, filty industrial edm vibes.
There are literally dozens of references to 90s rock and grunge, from the sounds of industrial and noise to NIN's motif and vocal style to Nirvana's chord progressions. Listen for yourself and I bet you'll find a lot in there.
Released as a single in 2021, this track is the second track of AWAY's EP, self:antiself (2022).

a few genres you listen to the most/consider your favorite
#for me i consider 4-5 average#7 minutes or longer is long#2-3 minutes or shorter is notably short#and my favorite genres are rock n hip hop from the 90s-2000s#at least sayin from QotSA bein my fave and listening to Mos Def and a lotta others from that era or newer#hip hop & rap seems to vary quite a bit in song length#hard rock is pretty flatly consistent (esp with sumn like RATM) but any tinge of outer influence can change that#QotSA has their 7-9 minute songs#and Mars Volta n King Gizzard notably have some reaaaal long songs cuz of psych influence#or prog in MV's case

Tulli and I were talking about how it would be fun to go with a different art direction for each GG20s story that reflects different animated movies/eras/studios of the mid-1900s. For theming and immersion, we're setting the "production" of The Grand Galloping 20s around the 1960s. So imagine an animated film/cartoon/comic created in the 1960s about a story set in the 1920s. That being said, we're not gonna be able to resist pulling inspiration from 80s Don Bluth movies.
So far, we're thinking of having the first 3 stories (Nightmare Moon, Gala, Wedding) styled after Disney fairytale storybook films and Starlight's story styled after the xerox era (we've been looking at 101 Dalmatians). The smaller, shorter stories would be styled after animated shorts like UPA films, Silly Symphonies, Peanuts specials, and Looney Tunes (Pinkie is a perfect slapstick Looney Tunes character too).
More to come on this, just some thoughts.
