in the shadow of a flame is an atla swap!au where ty lee is the avatar whose iceberg washes up on the deck of the wani, where nonbender zuko and firebender master azula decide to follow her on her mission to overthrow their father and stop him from complete and total world domination. it features several large twists on canon, including healer yue and earthbender mai (eventually). 

this chapter features the siege of the northern water tribe, possession by way of spirits, and hard choices and revelations for yue, ty lee, and zuko.

“Leave if you’re going to,” Yue cried, her voice rising. The two Fire Nation siblings startled, turning to look at the disheveled Princess, who stood amidst the white snow. “If you’re going to run and abandon us, then run. But either you come with me now, or you stop wasting my time.”

Azula blinked slowly, her eyes like liquid copper, as if she could hardly be bothered. Yue’s own brown eyes met the other girl’s with defiance flaring in her own.

“I’m going to do what it takes to save my people,” she said, her spine straightening as she spoke. “I can do it with or without your help, but I will stop the Fire Nation from claiming any more lives today.” She spoke without even a tremble in her voice.

“I’m coming with you,” Ty Lee said, gripping her staff tightly. She turned to face Zuko and Azula. “And you can’t stop me.”

“I wouldn’t,” Zuko said. “But I’ll go where my sister does.” He turned to Azula, raising an eyebrow. She chewed on her lip, expression different.

“You won’t survive on your own,” she finally said, and Ty Lee knew that was the closest thing to an admission of agreement they were going to get.

Unceasing Meditation

Last night I couldn’t last my usual duration of a session. It wasn’t an urge to sleep that I fought when I gave up on the session. My last thought before I slept was that I have cheated my way out of fear. The guise that fear wore was the urge to sleep. Some part of my mind knows that it is going to get dunked into a new depth of meditation. A depth within the super conscious mind that it hasn’t experienced before. This uncertainty is enough for the rest of my mind to suggest ‘Enough for today!’

I sure have been given all the signs that a new depth is coming. The body has been shaking through months of meditation sessions. There have been those moments when I have been given a push from my meditation seat forward. This, as I understand from Gurudev’s writing, is the kundalini energy finding direction. The urge to meditate all the time’ has never been so strong in me before.

Not only do I see no other option anymore but to meditate all the time but also I attribute last night’s shrunk meditation duration to the absence of this mental habit. May I be able to meditate all day today. Through a variety of activities may I be able to keep my attention on the blessed Hong Sau.

My beautiful coffee from Einstein's got me through my early morning psych class. Tried writing in cursive, which is something I haven't done since the third grade. It takes significantly longer to write, but it looks so much better than my print!

yes I know this pic is low quality and the lighting sucks, but I just had a very chaotic and dramatic submitting of my math answers (don’t wait until the very last minute of ur deadline kids, bc everything that can go wrong also will go wrong [murphy’s law]) and it’s 1:30am now and I am going to sleep

what I did:

- 4 math problems

- rewriting those and 3 other math answers so that the poor soul who has to grade them, can actually see what some of the letters are
