Need an acknowledgement after Buddie goes canon of them having had latent or explicit feelings for each other for years. This isn’t a case of “oh, we were best friends for years and then one day we woke up and were in love.” This is a case of “we’ve been best friends for years, and we’ve been falling in love with each other since the day we met. We just didn’t understand it yet.” We’ve already had Buck’s realization that he’s bisexual, but his arc was chock-full of obliviousness to his attraction to Eddie, his feelings for Eddie, whose attention he actually wants. He still doesn’t really get it, but he gets that he likes men too, at least. Eddie is a whole other ball game. From the Catholic guilt to the toxic masculinity to the childhood emotional neglect to the pressure he keeps putting on himself to perform in relationships. He’s repressed as hell, and he isn’t to “I’m gay” yet, but we see hints of him understanding that how he feels might be a little different (his pause at “follow your heart, not Christopher’s” from Carla, his two talks with Bobby, admitting to performance anxiety on dates to the whole team, his talk with Buck about Marisol being an ex-nun, his acceptance that Ana and a ready-made family was the reason for his panic attack).

We know that the two of them are bad at identifying how they really feel, or at least allowing themselves to feel it. So, it makes way more sense for the show to admit that they’ve had romantic feelings for each other for years, rather than trying to convince the audience that what we’ve been watching these past seven seasons isn’t a product of two characters’ struggles with their identity and relationships. And while I’d be satisfied with a light-hearted snark from Hen or Chim about how they’ve been seeing it for years, I’d be so much happier with a full circle moment of the boys actually fully knowing themselves, acknowledging that they were never just best friends, they just didn’t understand it yet. It would show their series-long growth, as well as being an enormous tip of the hat to the audience. Because we aren’t misinterpreting it. We’re reading the queer-coding directly from the show, yes through subtext of course, but also the literal text. There have been so many moments deserving of acknowledgement in this regard, and I would hate for Buddie to go canon without it being clarified that those moments were exactly as queer and/or romantic as we thought.

Making a list of good signs that Tommy's set for being a long-term love interest for Buck, to see how many we get. So far I've got:

Number of episodes similar to established partners or long-term love interests (like Karen or Taylor)

Backstory

Tommy plays a part in a storyline other than his romance with Buck

Tommy gets his own 'storyline' (B-plot, like Taylor and Ransone's investigation for example)

Home is shown; bonus: conversation about moving in (extra: Buck moves in)

Big Damn Hero moment

Tommy in danger moment

Buck and Tommy have a disagreement and resolve it well; bonus points if they come out of it stronger.

Multiple scenes with other characters; bonus points if they serve to show their bond / Buck isn't there.

Tommy POV (we see him with 'outside' characters).

“I'm sorry that I have to say goodbye.” “At least you're saying it, right?” Buck smiles, that self deprecating one that always makes Eddie’s heart ache. “I'm not going to be gone forever, bud,” Eddie assures him, not for the first time. He'll say it as many times as it takes. He's coming home. With his son. Buck nods and looks away as he sniffs. “A month is pretty long, Eds.” “It's not forever,” Eddie says. “Four months without him, Buck… it's too long for all three of us.” “I know,” Buck says. “Just… don't let her win. No- no matter what she tries. And- and call me if she does try anything, okay?” Eddie smiles sadly and wraps his arms around Buck's neck. “Do you have any idea how glad I am that you have my back?” he whispers, the words spoken against Buck's throat. Buck huffs a wet laugh and hugs him tight. They stay like that for who knows how long, swaying slightly in Eddie's living room, just the way they'd done when Chris left. And now he wants to come home. But Helena won't let him. “I could still go with you,” Buck says. “Gerrard's not going to give you the leave,” Eddie points out. They'd already tried. “I'd quit,” Buck declares, just the way he had when Eddie told him the plan. “I can't ask you to do that,” Eddie says. “You didn't. I offered,” Buck counters, holding Eddie just far enough away to look at him. “And I'm refusing,” Eddie says, despite everything in him wanting to beg Buck to come along. But he needs to do this for Christopher. For himself. He's let Helena win one too many times. Buck rolls his lips and nods. “If you change your mind-” “You'll be the first to know,” Eddie promises. Buck's eyes fill with tears again. It takes every ounce of strength Eddie has not to do the same. “Eddie,” Buck says, looking into his eyes with an expression Eddie’s never seen on his best friend before. He knows they've been drifting towards something. But he wants to do it right. He doesn't think he could survive a month away from Buck if he… “Tell me when we get home, okay?” Eddie asks, cupping his cheek. Buck gives a wobbly smile. “Okay.” Eddie presses a kiss to his cheek before taking a step back. He glances at the clock behind Buck. He should've been on the road half an hour ago. “I should…” “Yeah,” Buck sighs. “Go get our kid.”

I think they're gonna open with Eddie heavily in the avoidance stage of processing Chris being gone. He's switched up his appearance, he's trying to become a new person rather than ruminating on the old one (much like Buck with his different versions).

We'll probably open with him acting weirdly fine... like the team are obviously concerned with this. I think he's gonna have all this tension and frustration pent up and he'll start to break by snapping at people trying to push him a little, like Buck or Bobby.

And then a call will happen where a kid is involved or something, and he'll be back home to an empty house, and sit in Chris's room and break. Though actually I'm not sure on that, because we've seen Eddie break in that way before so idk if they'd go back to it, so I think he might snap in a different way?

Either way, silly Mr Repression is gonna be back in Frank's office very soon.
