307 month old is sending me 😂
Georgie earnestly tells people Jamie's age in months until he's like 4, and then after that she still automatically calculates it in her head and will sometimes completely deadpan tell people her son is 305 months old when they ask, because she gets a kick out of watching them try to calculate it and slowly realize that her son is actually an adult man and she just had him crazy young

the way they're so strikingly similar and yet polar opposites because of the generational gap/difference in parenting during their upbringing... wtf does this show want from me 😫

Whumptober Day 9
Prompt: ‘frame me up on the wall just to keep me out of trouble’, bruises
This idea is a mishmash of two things I heard on a podcast:
1 - players will often before a match watch footage of other players they want to emulate
2 - a friend of the podcast host used to have a large cardboard cutout of a footballer in his living room
So what I’m imagining is Jamie, fresh faced at 18 and having just moved into his first place.
He’s really feeling the pressure from his dad to play tougher now that he’s gotten his first ‘professional contract’, which is still a pittance compared to the actual professionals, but good luck explaining to his dad that it’s not a reflection on how Jamie plays, it’s just where he’s at right now in his career. At the bottom. The bottom of the top is still the bottom, and in case he’s in danger of forgetting that, he can just look around him: a cheap one-bedroom with no furniture, no decorations, and moving boxes doubled up for tables while he sits on the floor.
He left nearly everything behind at his mum’s. They’re on the outs for a bit. (He doesn’t know this yet, but they’ll be on the outs on and off for the next few years.) In hindsight Jamie shouldn’t have used his dad’s name as a weapon, but she’d just told him that she wanted her new boyfriend to move in. He’s met this new guy Simon a few times, and he knows he’s a harmless, gormless wanker, but the sudden idea of living in the same house — in his house — fills him with sudden and icy dread. It makes him feel cornered; it makes him feel betrayed; and at some point when he wasn’t paying attention he’d learned it was easiest to meet threats teeth-first, so that’s what he did.
Ironic, too, that he’d been so focused on getting away from Simon that he wound up staying with his dad for the next few weeks. But at least he knew his dad — the shape of his anger and the swerve of his moods and how to time his waking hours so that it was never him asleep while his dad was awake.
His new place might be a bit of a shithole, but at least it’s got a lock on the door.
So now he’s alone, sitting on his living room floor, mental preparing himself for the match later that he probably won’t even get to play in. Watching Roy Kent’s old matches from when he was still the toughest bastard on the field. He skips past all the footage from his most recent games, because watch Kent struggle to keep up with everyone makes something ache in Jamie’s chest. He needs the old Roy Kent, the one who’s familiar. The big man with the biggest walls who’s been looming in front of Jamie for years.
Only he left his mum’s in such a hurry, and then he’d spent the next few weeks bunking with his dad (regrettably) while he searched for his own place, and between one thing and another he didn’t so much as decide to leave his poster behind as he knew he couldn’t take it with him.
But it felt weird not having his poster scowling down at him too, so Jamie-
Well it’s not like he’s got anything to show off yet in his new place. No one has to know that he impulse bought a Roy Kent cardboard cutout for his living room instead of buying a coffee table.
So this is the picture so far: Jamie, lounging on a bare wooden floor with his hoodie bundled under his head for a pillow. He’s watching old footage on a new phone, because his dad broke the old one. Between the phone and the security deposit, he can’t afford a tv yet. The paychecks are coming, they are, bigger than the ones last year twice over, but he wants to save a bit first before he starts buying stuff he knows from experience he’s perfectly fine living without.
He knows how fast someone’s money situation can change. He has a contract inked for two years, but it doesn’t feel real. Everything feels like a dream.
Roy Kent’s not a dream though. Roy Kent’s as real as he ever been, whether he’s in ink and paper scowling above Jamie’s head or in tiny pixels as he stomps across the pitch so hard the grass should die in his wake.
Roy Kent, his guide for how to be tougher be better keep going
It’s that kind of focus keeps Jamie out of trouble when things get tough. When his dad comes at him too hard, and Jamie wonders with a cold chill if staying in football is worth the occasional bruise it earns him off the pitch.
It has to be worth it though. If it all crumpled, if that image of Roy Kent ever collapsed in front of them, Jamie doesn’t know what else he would do
He still has a way to catch up. The physios are all in agreement that Jamie hasn’t quite had his last growth spurt. Standing on his tiptoes in front of the cutout because he thought he’d at least be eye level with him by now
He plans to hide it under his bed if his dad shows up unannounced
(That only works for so long)
By the time Jamie gets loaned out, his first flat is nothing more than a short lived memory. The cutout is long since dead, and so is naive little twat who looked up to it. Jamie’s taller now. Hasn’t pulled up a video of Roy Kent in years. In all ways that matter, Roy Kent is a living ghost to him
And then he meets Roy Kent

old habits die screaming - Chapter 1 - jamietarttsnorthernattitude - Ted Lasso (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
After Beard After Hours, Beard gets James Tartt to agree not to contact Jamie by not pressing charges. It works until Jamie texts his Dad from a Nelson Road treatment room. Hearing that Beard and Ted are returning to America, James agrees to meet his son. And just like that, Jamie allows a monster back into his life.

Danny/Steve
Steve/Eddie
Eddie/Buck
What's with the repeat names???
Thank God for Jamie/Roy

Augusnippets Day 9 - Hypothermia - Ted Lasso
A Cold Wet Tuesday Night In Stoke - an example of the worst of the worst conditions to play football in If you can play good football on a cold wet Tuesday night in Stoke then you can play good football anywhere. Dani did play good football that night, but he never wants to do it again!
Here on AO3 @augusnippets
“Football is life but this, this is not football. This is despair,” Dani whined, bottom lip firmly stuck out into a pout.
“Come on muchacho! This ain’t nothing. You should have been warned about the British weather before you rocked up,” Jamie laughed. He was bouncing up and down, twisting his hips as he vibrated on the sideline.
“I was told rain, and not that warm,” Dani sulked, desperately trying to plunge his hands deeper into the pockets of the sideline cape that was the only thing allowing him to be outside right now.
“When we get running that’ll get the blood pumping,” Jamie reached out and patted Dani on the cheek. Dani writhed and squealed, backing away rapidly to get away from Jamie’s ice cold digits. “Ok, ok I’ll stop,” Jamie laughed, raising his hand in surrender at Isaac’s disapproving look.
“You are going to have to take that jacket off to play in though Dani,” Isaac pointed out.
“No. I am one with the jacket, I can play in it,” Dani pouted.
“Get warm,” Roy barked now the cones were out on the pitch. Dani sighed. He was never going to be warm again.
Dani wanted to go back to Mexico. He was dripping and shivering in the tunnel after the worst ninety minutes he had every experienced. “Cheer up bud, we won!” Jamie yelled, and rushed Dani from behind, swinging him in a circle before placing him back down. But Jamie’s arms tensed and Dani felt himself being softly lowered back to the ground. This wasn’t unusual for Jamie. He was incredibly tactile and so was Dani so they were always hugging and picking either other up but Jamie didn’t usually treat Dani like he would shatter if squeezed too tight. However Dani did feel like he might shatter if Jamie squeezed too tight. He had never related to an ice sculpture of a swan at a fancy wedding before but today that was apt. “Fuck lad you’re like an ice block,” Jamie muttered, turning Dani round to face him.
“Swan,” Dani muttered, wrapping his arms around himself to try and claw any heat that was leeching off him back into his body. That didn’t do anything to make the concern in Jamie’s expression any softer.
“Let’s get you dry and warm ok,” Jamie whispered, pulling Dani in close to his chest.
Dani felt safe and cosy wrapped up in Jamie’s arms. He was still cold, he was still shivering and he wanted to be anywhere but here. But if he had to be here then being enveloped by Jamie wasn’t a bad place to be. “Hey someone get him some dry and warm clothes, and me I guess. And we need …” Dani just let Jamie’s words roll over him and sighed contentedly against Jamie’s chest. Jamie’s top was wet too but he was warmer. Anything was warmer. “I got you lad,” the words rumbled through Jamie’s chest, only just making Dani’s ears. Jamie was in charge. Dani would be fine.

Liam Dunbar in The McCall Way by yikeshereiam
“Y’know, as Captain, I don’t think you’re supposed to play favourites,” It’s Liam again. Jogging in circles around Theo like the un-injured, agile, cocky, young arsehole he is. Theo rolls his neck and tries to focus on anything but Liam's moving form.  “Can’t handle not being in the spotlight?” Theo tries to shake him off, slipping back into formation to continue the drill. The attempt is futile, because Liam sticks to him like glue. That infuriating smirk fixed on his face.  “I’m just saying I think you should be nicer to your star player, is all.”  “You’re right,” Theo nods, and is pleasantly surprised when it makes Liam’s steps falter ever so slightly. Like he didn’t expect Theo to even really be listening.  It gives Theo an opportunity to put some room between them, though Liam quickly begins to catch up. Theo decides to turn his attention back to the drill at hand and watches as Vernon gains possession of the ball, skillfully passing it off to Corey with just once glance in his direction. “I’ll make sure to apologise to Boyd later.”  Liam huffs. “Prick.”

Jamie isn't even that tall as an adult really (hes one of the shorter ones on the team for sure), so kid Jamie would have been just tiny, all bony knees and bruised shins and brushing his hair into that obnoxious peak to make himself look taller
:(( I always think about pre-academy baby Jamie playing on a team with older kids (because he's so good that he has to play up a few years to give him a challenge/make it fair for everyone) and getting pushed around a lot because he's a lot smaller than everyone else. So that's part of (a smaller factor than James but still a factor) why he develops the whole tough guy/bully persona. He tries to make himself seem bigger and more intimidating so that people won't try shit with him and he carries that with him into adulthood
