I do not absolutely think this was the first time he saw her in five years. Iwould even go as far to say he never left the HQ. I recognize Steve being there for her, especially when he probed Nat and comforted her in TWS after the bunker explosion The main reason for writing this was I was listening to Ella Fitzgerald to sleep. Come on. Don’t put words in my mouth. Let me have this one headcanon. I thought it would be one sweet way to comfort her, beyond the stoic lines written in the movie.

It’s a wonderful headcanon and I would have loved to see it, it’s a great choice of song, but I do feel like the way it’s worded makes it sound critical of Steve, like “she was there for him, but he wasn’t there for her, therefore they should have done this instead so he could returned the favor”.  

For example, you kept repeating the idea of as she’s done for him and put in bold letters “And damn it, it’s his turn to cheer her up” as if that wasn’t exactly what he was shown doing in that scene and also the lined out comment about Steve mentioning he hasn’t moved on, suggesting he was making it all about himself when in fact he was literally saying that NEITHER of them had moved on (Some people move on “but not us”, the “us” being Natasha and himself). Again to compare to the Church scene in CW, Nat talked about visiting her parents grave, I don’t see anyone suggesting she was “making it all about herself”.

That’s why I took it that way. I’m sorry I misinterpreted your intention.

That said the other stuff wasn’t really a reply to you, just a sort of general comment on how far too many people are treating Steve’s character these days and possibly a sort of reply to someone else’s tags.
