Ateez as Bryson Tiller songs
Listed below are the Bryson Tiller songs I associate with Ateez. This includes his albums and any singles he has released
Hongjoong: Inhale
I had a hard time choosing something for the captain I'm not gonna lie. I compared a lot of songs, both released and unreleased, and tried to see which one fit his vibe the best. After much deliberation, I finally settled on this one. Like Crazy Form, Inhale is not overwhelming with the noise genre that Ateez is used to. I can see Joong chopping up and playing around with the instrumental on this song and maybe add a bit more layering and depth to this song. Knowing Hongjoong, he'd use that brain of his to produce something immaculate yet stay true to the original.
Seonghwa: Overtime
My brainwaves naturally associated this song with Seonghwa ever since I came across an edit that used this song in the background and the edit contained clips of this fuckface show off his grills in the behind-the-scenes video of Matz.
Yunho: Losing Focus
Heavy 808s, thumping bass, and an overall danceable beat? I immediately thought of Yunho for this one. I'm also taking into account the way he acts. I picture his face contorted into one that is actually losing focus or already has lost focus. I can picture him looking troubled as he rides the beat of this song. That's pretty much all I got for him lol
Yeosang: Canceled
We all know that Yeosang is the most savage member of the group. So of course I had to pair him with this song. He hates the fried chicken he got (which is a lie since he loves everything lol)? Cancelled. Wooyoung being Wooyoung? CANCELLED. Any bitches that wanna hate on these eight literal fucking angels? CANCELLED!!! Anyways
San: Exchange
Good. Fucking. God. I have been manifesting this cover of this song ever since I got into Ateez. I even fucking put this song in my Valentine's series! You cannot tell me that San's voice would be perfect for this song. The airiness in his tones brings a different timbre to this otherwise aggressive song and it almost gives the song a bit more seduction rather than reminiscence. With the way San's stage presence is, you'd most likely be lured in since he is a siren and you are his prey.
Mingi: Let Me Explain
Mingi is my ult. And this song is my all time favorite out of all the songs that Bryson has released. So naturally, I paired these two together. Ever since I heard Mingi's solo song, I cannot get his raspiness out of my head. It's forever glued to my brain cells. Now imagine the raspiness making an appearance again in this song. How he's begging for you to come back and hear him out before pleading for you to stay. You don't have to forgive him. As long as he explains his truth, he'll be content.
Wooyoung: Just Another Interlude
The more I listen to this bonus track off of Trapsoul, the more I realize that Wooyoung actually represents this song. As the lyrics go, Woo can be a freak and a friend too. He's someone you'd see yourself leaning on yet get a good fuck out of him. However, this doesn't mean he's fitted for friends-with-benefits. Good God no. He's way too good for that. This just means that when you get into a relationship with him, he can either be a friend, a fuckbuddy, a lover, or all three.
Jongho: Next to You
The maknae. The 'hyung' maknae. The maknae with strong hands and even stronger vocals. We all know he loves to scream out his high notes. As it says in a guide I watched, Jongho's voice is so powerful that when you hear his harmonies, you'd think it was another instrument. I jokingly posted a Jongho pic on Instagram with this song in the background, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that he does have the potential to sing mainly in his lower register. It would be a nice contrast to everything else.

[WONHO] 211001 Billboard Japan Interview
Take all translations with a pinch of salt as there may be inaccuracies!
Ori article: https://www.billboard-japan.com/d_news/detail/104436
🐰When I was feeling sad, thanks to the people around me and the people who supported me and the fans, I was about to overcome the difficult times.
🐰I wrote the lyrics intuitively with the keywords melancholy, BLUE and the blue sea as the theme; comparing swimming in the blue sea to being stuck in melancholy. The lyrics have double meaning. But, even though there are sad days, we are still young and there are many things
we can challenge so I put my take of positive message in the lyrics to take it on positively and overcome it.
- The sea you envisioned 🐰California.
- I somehow imagined the sea in Korea 🐰I imagined the California sea from the American dramas I watch often (lol).
🐰「Intro」is a song that is like an object made up of the days that have gone by, the emotions I felt at that time and what I was thinking. If I were to materialize and express my thoughts, I imagined what pattern and colour would it be and made it into music. I intended to put all my emotions into this song so I hope the fans will be pleased.
🐰(「BLUE」is a) song with hope. I made it very exquisitely, focusing on the bass and guitar sounds.
🐰「No Text No Call」is a song that talks about the distance between my fans and me.
🐰When I was alone and not active, the emotions I have for my fans and the emotions my fans feel for me; even though we love each other, we couldn't keep in touch - I sing about that frustration. It's a song for fans but it's a song that non-fans can empathize with.
🐰 「Come Over Tonight」is a song I challenged musically. It features a beautiful harmony of a seemingly sad and light guitar stacked with a strong vocoder and waiting after the chorus is the impressive drop of the 808 bass, synthesizer and guitar sound that blends together.
🐰「24/7」is a word that means a week - every day. This is also a song I wrote coz I want to convey to my fans that 'I'm always by your side'. But just singing that is cliche so I tot it would be interesting to make the song with a message like this with a slightly stronger sound.
🐰「Stranger」is the last song I made in this album. When I had to leave my fans and the people who love me, I put the emotions I felt into (the song). I's a song that has a slightly darker feeling when the feeling of when I was left alone is put into words.
- Between messaging and calling
🐰I prefer calling. When it comes to messaging, I get worried if it's conveyed properly or not. But it's often late at night so I leave messages during that time. If I wrote everything I wanted to say on the phone, it would become very long.
- Do you want people to reply your msgs quickly or do you wait?
🐰If it's work, I want them to quickly reply. But when they don't, I wonder if they're taking a bath (lol). For example, when I upload photos onto SNS, I'll send it to the company for them to check in case the face of someone passing by is captured as there are a lot of things to be careful of. At such times, I wait restlessly for them to reply quickly (lol).
- Do you handwrite letters?
🐰Recently, I rarely do. Not just letters, even for memo-ing lyrics, I type them into my phone. When you type it into the memo app on the phone, it is linked to the iPad making it really convenient.
. on BLUE MV
🐰BLUE is a high-teen interpretation of a striking image of me that I imagined, the trials I undergone and when I overcome those trials. I hope the fans will be pleased with it but MVs are hard. You got to squeeze in various things in 3 minutes. I've experienced it many times but there are parts that are difficult to understand even for me. But I think it's well done this time so please look forward to it!
(interview was done one day before the comeback)
- Was the video's image and ideas yours?
🐰Every time I make a music video, most of it are me thinking.
- Did you dye your hair for this comeback?
🐰Yes, I coloured (my hair) for the comeback this time. To have this level of white, I've done it before but not much. After I debuted solo, most of the time, it was bleach only. Previously, I dyed it black, this time is white.
- Is there a concept for dyeing white?
🐰I had blue only on the tips on white hair in the past. The title song this time is「BLUE」so I wanted to do that again.
The interviewer, Furuya said it's pretty and really refreshing.
- Message for Jwenee
🐰『Blue Letter』will finally be released in Korea tmrw. You guys have loved the Korean albums so far so I hope you will continue to love this album too. Because of the pandemic, there are many things that are difficult but I hope my song can be your strength.

ngl I think I was cooking with this, so to add on, I think most definitely Q!philza would 100% have piano leitmotif I think that Q!foolish would have one that has synth, mostly because he's an upbeat guy and 80's synth especially sounds so positive and upbeat, and since he is sorta working with the federation now, it gives that cold, techno music vibe as well, and maybe Q!vegetta could have a brass sort of theme, with tubas and trumpets, and trombones, a hero-sort of theme, since he's considered a very formidable opponent. Maybe then Leos leitmotif could be a sort of electro swing vibe? even though swing/jazz is really different than big brass orchestras, it kinda just fits leo's personality yk? it sounds a bit fun and bouncy and upbeat! but also a bit classy and reserved, like a mix of leo's parents!! maybe Q!forever and Q!philza could have like, a SU amalgem sorta thing when they are hanging out together? two opposing music styles (hip hop and classical piano) making this mix that blends the two together? idk it would be cool though lol I think Q!Maxo would have a sort of spy/noir kind of thing? lots of softer notes, maybe some lone trumpet moments? mostly for the trumpet pun, but also because he also likes to figure out the mysteries of the island in a clue finding sort of way, he DID make a machine ai that can help trace the origins of things like audios and images and whatnot. But Q!cellbit would also kinda fit that sort of thing, that man solves mysteries a whole bunch yk, but maybe his would have drums? I'm getting percussion vibes honestly, not so much a rock sort of thing, but not really a jazz sort of thing...Lofi maybe? 24/7 beats to research on how to take down a hidden society residing on the very island you crashed on that harmed your children? Q!slime and Gegg would 100% have a funk bass theme with 808 and electronic doot doots Q!quackity would defo have a sort of funky trumpet sort of theme, but then after he gets taken by the federation, the rotary of the theme gradually becomes more and more aquatic/technical, which references his involvement and subsequent demise (?) by the federations hands yk Q!jaiden I think would have a chiptune flute leitmotif, not only does it have like, a technical sounding nature, which goes in line with the technological-esc nature of the federation, and it also tries to emulate a woodwind instrument, which goes with the whole bird hybrid hc Q!jaiden has, but chiptune is just so silly /pos like I personally think it fits Q!jaiden a bunch :DD Random but I feel like dapper would just have like.....A choir alt-rock theme, like with a huge big pipe organ delivering very low notes, but also like a bass guitar with a theatre esc tune?? idk think of like... flight of the crows by jhariah lmao idk ooo but then Tallulah would deffo have like, a Broadway esc leitmotif, maybe like tambourine w/violin but also a bit of piano? and maybe a bit of flute as well??? like maybe something that sounds like the beginning part of Polyphemus from epic??? idk if that REALLY fits but I'm kinda just spitballing at this point lmao
also I am by no means a music expert I'm just rambling so if I need to be corrected in my term usage please tell me lol
I think if qsmp was a show, q!phil's leitmotif/theme would primarily be piano, when he, chayanne, fit, and ramone were having their epic moment at the difficult ship, I'm pretty sure the music that was in the bg contained piano and during tallulah and chayanne's temporary death, a somber piano song played Idk I know its a coincidence, you can't script those sorts of things, but like I think it would be cool if Q!phil had a piano leitmotif!!
#q!philza#q!tallulah#qsmp#q!vegetta#q!dapper#q!jaiden#q!cellbit#q!forever#q!foolish#q!slimecicle#q!gegg#q!maxo#q!leonarda#Q!Quackity#maybe parts of everyones themes would blend into each other lol??#like maybe chayanne has theatre esc stuff with classical piano stuff but also some guitar stuff from wilbur and like#maybe he also has technical sounds like 808's or backing synths cuz of his part time cucurucho job??#and maybe tallulah also has her theatre thing but also maybe she has the piano from phil and the guitar from wilbur but maybe also like#maybe some clarinet from bbh (he gives off clarinet energy to me lol) cuz like#he takes care of her a lot and like maybe that also in turn gives bbh a fnaf daycare esc theme because like#hes just the island babysitter but maybe he also has parts of roiers and 4evers themes because THEY were involved w/him and#*breathes in deeply*#tldr the themes blend into each other cuz this island is one big found family

Word Count: 1.1k
Warnings: hard dom!kiri, exhibitionism, drug use!, slapping, cock warming, un-protected sex {wrap it up before you tap it}, creampie, degradation, cocky kiri lol
Quick A/n: yea idk who i sent this ask too but i need to get it out of my head pleaseee.. also unedited
MINORS DNI
i don't except follows from ageless blogs, you will be blocked!!
okay, kirishima is 100% in love with you. follows you around like a lost puppy and most definitely doesn't like being without you for more than 4 hours.
so when you say you're going to an all day rave and you pick ur anti-sweaty skimpy outfit, of course he's gonna wanna come and dress up with you too.
so when you dance with your friends for about a couple of hours and go to smoke, seeing your friends pull out their colorful pills and small tabs and handing a pill one to everyone with a puff of the joint, no one backed down
but you didn't expect this.
it started off as grinding to the music, your sweaty intoxicated bodies rubbing and jumping in the sea of people, eyes dizzy and sweat dripping with confidence with the colorful lights and bass around you and kiri, but though the night didn't settle down, you too did... only slightly
instead of jumping with the bass your tongues clashed with the bass, his touch almost foreign to your faded body as you too stood in the middle of the floor, the people around too invested in their friends or dancing only a few stares because of the sudden lack of energy in the crowd.
his hands were all over your body, feverish and soaked with sweat and as everything started sinking in your hand tried to go lower but was stopped by kiri, and for the rest of the night. instead you stood in front of him, his body caging you in as he made you whimper with the small alerting touches
he laughed at you, teasing your nipples and dipping down to your thighs to completely avoid the spot he's needed most. he'll go all night teasing you
'awe baby, do you wish we stayed home? i would've treated you so well baby~' he will coo
'with all your moving you're gonna bump into someone~.. you wouldn't want me to stop?'
he's gonna compliment and tease your body until your begging, almost on your knees with tears and overstimulation. but you can't keep your moans to yourself. and once you let one out big enough, kiri's gonna punish you right then and there.
though no one noticed because of his large hand clapping over your face to the beat of the 808's he would continue to tease you, slapping the bare skin of your ass that's out from the small 2 piece suit and hitting the insides of your thighs, nipples, and whatever sensitive piece of you he can get too to make you make another noise. he's gonna make you beg right then and there to shove it in. all of him bare. he'll make sure you say it too.
grabbing your throat and slapping you with his rough palm until ur crying, begging just the way he likes. once he's satisfied, he'll make sure your ok, kissing and rubbing the places he smacked before he pulls your shorts to the side and slips himself all the way to he cant shove his dick in anymore without making you whimper but the hand the pulled the shorts away immediately dipped underneath your shorts.
and that's probably where the position stayed for the last half of the rave, his hand around your throat, his dick grinding against your puffy cunt along with his hand against your clit, bringing you to orgasm after orgasm but with every time he came remotely close, whimpering cusses from deep within his throat, he slowed, teasing your dumbified form and giving you praise for taking him so well.
those last 5 minutes of the show kiri wants to leave early, so you have to say bye to all your friends short holding a puddle of your mess, cum running down in between your thighs but it's unseen in the dark outside arena.
and once you get back to kiri after the degrading moment he smiles at you, gestures you to walk in front of him so he can hold you and kiss you. calming down your spazzed out and tired nerves.
you were probably hoping that he would walk to the parking lot and fuck you when he got home, but as soon as you walked near the bathroom he was already pushing you to the wall, breathless and humping at your puffy cunt. and here you started your begging.
the 'no we're in public'
and the 'everyone's going to see'
but this bothered kiri not at all, no repercussions passing his mind as he pulls you into the girls bathroom shoves you into the stall and pulls your bottom piece off, juices separating the clothing and dripping onto the floor.
leaving the discarded clothing on your back so it doesn't fall on the floor, he grabbed your ass from behind and started lapping at your sensitive cunt, compared to before he made sure he was licking at all of your good spots just to make sure that he could hear your voice loud and clear compared to having to quiet you in the crowd.
so there your cute doggy is, slurping at your puffy overstimullated pussy until you squirted, knees giving out and your arms hitting the toiled to hold yourself up.
but to your lovely misfortune, kiri took it as a new position spreading your pussy apart just to shove his throbbing cock deep into you once again, but this time all the way to his base, so you could whine his name off your salivated lips. your arms shaking the toliet seat.
and with his powerful thrusts, groans, moans and the thick slapping of sweaty skin, a crowd was attracted outside the bathroom, small whispers turning into a loud groupchat as kiri finally dumped his thick load in you, keeping you pressed against the seat as he gave you his entire night worth of energy a nice minute full of cum filling out your cunt and even seeping outside eith just how much he dumped into you.
once he finished, he got a nice package of the post nut anti-clarity, looking down at your exhausted fucked out form.
cum dripping off of your abused cunt and onto the toliet seat.
but pulling out, the disgusting package was gone as the beautiful sight of his load leaking off his dick and sticking to your puffiness while spilling into the toilet water as along with another beautiful moan of his name from your tired lips, he was picking you up and sliding your shorts back on, attempting to keep his load locked in. and kissing you softly like the sweet boyfriend he is
but he most definitely walks out with most shit eating grin, looking at the crowd of people who cheered as he carried you to the car to get you to 'car cleanup box'.

kai's 🍑 album thoughts
yeah this is a week late. I tried. 🤠
peaches: ooooh the opening is so pretty and atmospheric, love the cascading twinkles here. the electronics in the background add so much movement between jongin's spoken phrases. OH THEN THE BEAT DROPS and that's so satisfying! I feel like there's quite a bit of empty space and it really gives you that feeling of being suspended in space and time - reminds me of taeyong's "long flight" and key's "eighteen (end of my world)". love the contrast between the softer elements and the beat machine. jongin sounds so soothing, like a golden voice in the wind. oh the bridge is so interesting - at first the beat is paused, and then comes back in double to add some nice texture. oooooh that sustained note! very nice and pleasant, this is a vibe!
vanilla: interesting instrumentals - almost sounds like a summer rain pattering away on a window. a bit more subdued and quieter than "peaches". the daft punk-effect on his voice adds an interesting texture and contrasts with his quite exposed voice in other spots. the ending with those horns is a really nice touch. warm and calming, just like a vanilla candle :)
domino: HE SAID WAKE TF UP WE GOT SOME 🍑 TO POP!!! reason walked so that domino could run!!! oh man this is what I was waiting for - just some good dirty 808s and house-shaking bass lines. OH FCK IS THAT JONGIN??? wow I don't think I've ever heard him sing in this way before, with his natural chest (?) voice instead of elevating it like he normally does (again I don't have a formal vocal training so sorry if those are the wrong terms lol). the call-and-answer section adds so much groove omg. oh but then in the pre-chorus he switches to his normal singing voice which adds so much contrast! this sounds kinda like a throwback to 90s or early 2000s hip-hop and rap, and it's so refreshing after the slower songs that came before. yeah this is my fave!
come in: back to the same atmospheric feels as the first two songs. ooh lots of syncopation here, it adds this disjointed-groove that's oddly satisfying. kinda sounds like what you'd get if you combined "peaches" and "domino". nothing super over-the-top going on here, super pleasant and smooth!
to be honest: hmm...the synths add a little bit more grit here and it's nice, but at this point it's all kinda starting to blend together sonically, don't know if I have anything unique to add here that I haven't already said for previous songs.
blue: a downtempo close to the album. I really like the muted beat machine in the beginning, but then they bring it back up to the surface again and it starts to sound a little too similar with previous songs. I really like how emotive jongin sounds here though!
overall: there's a warm, hypnotic aura that permeates through this album and pulls you into his dreamy world, quite different from his previous release. it's a very cohesive album, very well produced, but there's an element missing here that I can't quite put my finger on. I don't know if it's fair to compare this with kai the album, but I do feel that album is stronger than this. not that "peaches" is bad by any means, maybe it's just that my personal preference is to have more layered synths and heavier beats than this album had. "domino" was a nice reprieve! I wish there was some more sonic variety because it all ended up blending together. but it's been really nice to see some of the creative content accompanying this and I know this is just start of jongin's solo career. I'm really glad he got to showcase this side of himself!
#album thoughts#trying to fight through covid booster brain fog this morning so idk if any of this makes sense lol#yeah like a lot of it is just stuff I could put on in the bg and vibe to#nothing super complicated or jarring#but it also didn't hold my attention the way kai the album did#domino is a BOP tho!

MIXING
What is Mixing: is a question prone to getting big scary answers with lots of layers of technicalities and pseudo-rules.
Very simply mixing in music is the act of Balancing the parts of the Arrangement so that they best portray the Story of the material.
As an example, if we take a song with drums, bass, guitars, piano and a singer: the most important part of that Balance has to be the lyrics that the singer is delivering (or why have a singer at all). The words and their delivery are the key to the song. Sure, people will seem to react to the drums & bass or a chunky guitar riff, but words and the message they emote, are the secret sauce of any track.
Melody is next. We are driven to singable tunes so keep melodic parts clear in the mix. Guitars & piano can be rhythmic, melodic or a bit of both. Decide which part each line or section is and mix accordingly.
Rhythm often seems the only reason people want to make music but it is the main reason that musos get stuck in their compositions and then in getting exposure.
Your Drums and Bass are there to enhance the natural rhythm of the lyric & melodies. If you put them on top of everything then you may think the mix is great (lead Kick Drum anyone lol) but the listener will not be so impressed as the Balance of the parts is wrong.
As a guide, the style of the material will influence the sort of Balance you look for.
A Folk Ballad will be very strong on Vocal & Melody but light on drums etc. A Rock Ballad will be similar but rhythmic elements will be stronger, but never so as to obscure the Lyrics.
A Disco song will push rhythmic elements forward but not to the exclusion of the lyric and melodies as even though the dancers seem keyed to the beat, they are really driven by the emotion of the mood of the vision of the song. An Indie Shoegaze track often buries the vocal a bit inside of swirling chordal movement but after a listen or two the lyric should still be clear.
Metal is mixed a lot like Disco!

SLIGHTLY NEW ALBUMS I LIKED (Little Simz - GREY Area; Monsune - Tradition; Backxwash - God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It)
More loose reviews that I write and instantly want to get out of my Word document and into Tumblr without much of an overlaying theme between the albums or any planning as to which ones I’ll be releasing at which point, but it is what it is. This time I’ll be compiling some recent-ish albums I’ve enjoyed, two of which I’ve come to know from TheNeedleDrop (I try not to watch reviews before writing down my opinion btw), and one EP from an artist I like. Here it is.
Little Simz – GREY Area
Little Simz, the 26-year-old British rapper, is an artist I’ve loved the first time I heard her, when I listened to Selfish for the first time and saw her cover of Feel Good Inc. in triple-j’s Like A Version. Today, May 30th, I was planning on listening to White Chalk by PJ Harvey, but from what I read, it’s a pretty depressing album, and I’m not in the mood for that right now, so I picked GREY Area from my future listening list.
It’s really nice to hear a rap album like this once in a while. The instrumentation is organic and well thought out, her flow is amazing, and her lyrics have so much substance and personality to them, ranging from the happier, more reminiscent tone in 101 FM to the much more aggressive tracks Offence, Boss, Venom and Pressure, she’s always giving her take on life, telling the experience of what it’s like being a black person with big dreams in England, seeing friends die while she tries to go somewhere in life through music.
The main tone she picks for her self-narrative is an unapologetic view of the world around her; she tells the listener: “’til now I ain’t ever been the selfish type, ‘till now I ain’t ever told nobody no, don’t get it twisted. This shit ain’t happen overnight” in the biggest song off here, Selfish, featuring the most calming and lavish pianos and violins in this album, and an amazing feature by Cleo Sol on the hook. Pressure features an amazing batch of verses all about. Same thing with the intro, Offence, with its bold, empowering chorus; although the track comes off more playful with its cartoonish sound effects nearing the end than the raw message of the track mentioned previously. A great, high-spirited track to start off the album.
What isn’t as high-spirited is the next track, Boss, or, to be fair, almost all the other tracks in the album. Boss is a big fuck you to anyone you might dedicate the song to: the hook has Simz’s most aggressive delivery in the whole record, and the entire message is about getting over those who hurt you and coming up. The second verse is something else.
Wounds, featuring Jamaican singer Chronixx, deals mostly with the gun/crime problem ever-so-present in marginalized communities all around the world, and she tells the story from the perspective of both herself and as a companion of the “gun man”, repeatedly mentioned in the song (“When a gun man only knows self-hate, them bullets show no love”). I’m not super crazy for Chronixx’s hook, or the much slower tempo of the track, but it fits well with the groovy instrumental. Venom, on the other hand, is a super exciting, menacing song. She goes all out over the violins playing in the background, but unfortunately, the track burns twice as bright to last half as long.
To lighten the mood a bit, 101 FM brings the most electronic instrumental, with cheerful, banging 808s and synths, and lyrics about her come up as a rapper, probably the verses where her British accent and slang dominate the most, giving them a more personal feel somewhat. Pressure doesn’t feature the most compelling instrumental or hooks in here – the Little Dragon refrain is mixed very poorly and the vocalist just doesn’t do a great job -, but the verses compensate for that, especially the first one, probably one of the most heartfelt and important ones in this album. Therapy talks about Simz’s struggles with finding comfort in therapy. The instrumental is average for the project, but still slaps, so that’s nice.
Sherbet Sunset is an ode to a broken relationship, and a theme that could be handled so poorly by other artists is handled masterfully by Little Simz. In three verses, she displays so many sides to what I assume is one relationship, so many emotions and thoughts that she shares, it really feels like she’s transcribing something of a focused, bright mind rush over the track, and it amazes me how she can reveal her feelings so well on a track like this, progressing from the regret of not seeing how it’d go wrong, to the anxiety that comes from spending all that time for seemingly nothing, to coming to terms with it in the last verse (although not quite). It’s a stunning song now that I listen to it again.
To close it all off, we have Flowers, mainly a tribute to various artists from the 27 club, with mentions of Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse in the verses, trying to relate to their struggles with drug addiction and quick fame. It’s incredibly powerful and a great finisher.
I don’t dislike one track in GREY Area. It’s well conceived, a great statement, it really feels like she gives her all to make every track memorable, and even though her delivery is mostly monotone throughout the whole album, that also works to her favor, as she has a very unique and recognizable voice. So the lyrics are extremely well written, and the only reason I don’t give more examples of that is because I got a whole lot of school shit to do, the instrumental work is clean and precise, and I don’t have a whole lot to complain about. Check this shit out if you haven’t.
FAVORITE TRACKS: 101 FM, Venom, Selfish, Offence, Boss, Pressure
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: lol nah
8.7/10
“Why you wanna all dress lies as truth? Have you ever seen what silence do? I don’t wanna see no violent troops putting out fires that haven’t been started”
Monsune – Tradition
Damn I did not expect to like this as much as I did.
Monsune is a Chinese-Canadian singer who has recently been gaining some popularity from his amazing song OUTTA MY MIND, which features a funky bassline and high-pitched guitar playing that some have compared to Childish Gambino, specifically his album “Awaken, My Love!”. I decided to check out this short EP by him to see if he had anything more to offer, and it’s safe to say, he does.
The first track off Tradition already shows what this guy can do with his production. It starts off with the same vibe off of his previously mentioned biggest track, but on steroids: a prominent bassline, pitch-altered backing vocals, sunny guitars, and drowned out drums. His voice is also reaching higher notes in this song than in OUTTA MY MIND, but then in the middle of the song it all slows down for a very welcome beat change that shifts the song from this summer anthem to a very chill R&B tune. It’s amazing stuff, although I don’t understand why he chose to put some very noticeable autotune in this part.
CLOUD is my least favorite from the EP, but it’s still a very solid song, it’s just not amazing. The bass is still very strong, and the bridge later on in the song is addictive as shit. After that track comes OUTTA MY MIND, and then his style completely switches in MOUNTAIN, which starts off with some solo guitar and his low, beautiful singing. It’s actually really moving for some reason lol. It then picks up in the hook, the drums kick in along with what I assume is a keyboard, and his voice reaches the top of his range for the backing vocals, it’s a very well-made song.
JADE finishes Tradition off extremely beautifully, with a smooth acoustic guitar intro over a nice-ass bass, some ethereal, trippy scenes of Monsune floating over the ocean and appearing out of thin air in front of you (probably not you, the listener). And then all of a sudden this madman screams off the top of his lungs in the middle of the track and I fucking love it.
The flaws this EP has are mostly related to the mixing, which I think can be a little too harsh in some sections such as the big breakdowns in JADE and MOUNTAIN. Plus, I know lyrics aren’t a focus on a project like this, but it would be nice to get something more than love songs in the future perhaps. Still, loving this EP, so glad I checked Monsune out. You should too.
WORST TO BEST: CLOUDS, 1998, JADE, OUTTA MY MIND, MOUNTAIN

Backxwash – God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It
God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It is an album by American rapper Backxwash, who received a new wave of attention after Anthony Fantano reviewed this album in his channel and gave it a decent 8. I haven’t watched the review yet, but I was interested in checking it out because of the high score, and especially since when I looked it up on Spotify, the songs only had around 8000 views.
Dark subject themes and the whole dark trap aesthetic are the core of this album. I, personally, have always been a fan of aggressive, heavy rap music, from more underground names like gizmo and Fukkit, to the more mainstream variant of these sounds, like XXXTENTACION. This album, however, operates in somewhat of a separate lane.
Many of the dark, edgy rap I used to listen to religiously back in the day was borderline mindless. Shit about ripping someone open, hollow flexing, except separated from mainstream rap only because the rapper in question is screaming their brains out when talking about designer clothes, instead of mumbling like your average Lil Baby, and, of course, personal problems, depression, being mad about whatever it was. Unlike its other contemporaries, however, it seems Backxwash has much more thought and elaboration into what she wants to yell about. Instead of hiding behind bass-boosted rather formulaic instrumentals, she takes the more scenic route, with still very dark, but more intricate gothic beats, sampling various religious speeches and implementing them into songs about black magic and overall unhappiness. The Black Sabbath sample that opens up this album should be enough for any listener to immediately understand what they’re about to get into, as the title track brings heavy percussion and some of the most graphic lyrics in the album, which it already doesn’t lack. Lines about downing pills and vodka, contemplating suicide, and blank vocalizations of anger (“I want war with these bitches, I want corpses and weapons”).
The track that resembles an average edgy Soundcloud rap song the most is Black Magic right after, with its own interpretation of the “ay” flow, shouted with a tone reminiscent of someone like Craig Xen. The big difference comes with the much grander production, especially the growling guitars that get introduced halfway, reminding the listener of Backxwash’s skill as a producer. From what I could tell, she was responsible for the production of the tracks in here, and considering there are no vocal guests except for Malldate’s quick appearance in Into The Void, I’m assuming the features listed in the tracklist are all producer credits as well, the feature in this track being Ada Rook, providing the amazing guitar work for this song.
Spells is mixed for me. I don’t enjoy the attempted singing in the chorus, and it falls completely flat to my ears; the beat is hard as ever, but the lyrics feel slightly disconnected with each other. At one point, she’s talking about going to Hell to her mom, at the other she mentions doors opening and closing in an office and how there’s no one in some corridor, and it doesn’t go anywhere from that, with lines such as “heart is so dead with tissue” not exactly evoking any sort of emotion or imagery.
Black Sheep is the most effective song out of the first four; it seems to filter all the positive aspects of the other tracks and package them into one quick serving. The beat is chaotic and in a constant state of unrest, the lyrics are centered and aimed at various of Backxwash’s problems in life, such as her father, people who want to bring her down and put her “in line on the X and O’s”, and overall venting. After that comes a brief interlude, the first of two that don’t have much use in the album except as pallet cleansers. It’s followed by Into The Void, a track that mentions her paranoia of being harassed and possibly killed when walking around in the streets and the deli. It’s haunting, and definitely the best song in here; it is laser-focused in the exact way I wished the previous tracks would be. Her vocal delivery is extremely expressive, and she tells the story in a way that gives the listener a brief, but at the same time immense glimpse of the reality that trans people face and have to go through, in a morbid fashion.
Adolescence is very short and eases the pace a bit after the intense emotions of the last. It’s a message to her younger brother that quickly descents into a confession of her inner struggle, mentioning possible overdoses and being too old for the 27 Club and fearing going to therapy. What’s great about this song is the fact that, even in such a short amount of time and with a less explosive instrumental, Backxwash manages to evoke her emotions so well; this is definitely what she does best in this record, and it overcomes the times where her delivery is flawed and her words are slurred and hard to understand. After this comes Amen, and holy fuck is this an angry song. Criticizing the hell out of the church, Backxwash comes at greedy pastors and their irresponsible spending when the churchgoers who support him are in need. My big problem with this song is the fact that the hook, as impassionate as it is, doesn’t do much for the subject, and the verse is way too short to have any impact with its theme. Lines like “these politicians politicking” don’t help much either.
The very distorted second interlude, Heaven’s Interlude, takes us to the last track, Redemption, the least intense song in here, which is appropriate as a sendoff. She expresses her frustrations towards her dad’s frustrations towards her being trans, and while the entire sentiment of the song is great and well formulated, I can’t find a way around the lines “Fuck these fucking boomers, fuck these fucking losers. Fuck theses motherfucking fuckers in their fucking two truck. Fuck these fuck(sic)abusers, and fuck these fucking rumors.”, they just emanate Limp Bizkit energy.
God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It is a very passionate, real, well produced and well-conceived album; it bears themes that are immensely important to be brought to the music scene, and by mixing that message with its explosive and polished production, it amplifies it a ton. However, as powerful as her deliveries are, I believe Backxwash can go much further with her songwriting and song structuring in the future, as well as her intonation, because that was really all that was keeping this album from being legendary. If she can do more of this in songs that are longer and super focused around whichever topic she decides, she can make something legendary. And thank God she got reviewed by Fantano, I hope she can take this opportunity and make something huge out of this.

Soundrs: Sowfi
Hello, my name is Sofia Natália Ritter, I release my songs under the name Sowfi. I’m a brazilian beatmaker and I’m only one year truly involved with music creation (despite the fact that I play piano since nine). So even though I’ve already been involved in some projects, I have a long way to go to finally call myself a “producer.” I started getting involved with lo-fi, but lately I have been producing trap, R&B, and have started studying future bass.
What are your inspiration sources?
It is hard to think of a specific inspiration because since I was a child I always considered myself very eclectic. Sometimes I also get inspirations when I walk alone in the streets. I end up absorbing a good vibe, when I see BOOM a melody pops into my mind. But lately I’ve been listening to Vintage Culture, Clairo, Doja Cat, Heize, Epik High and Millic.
Tell us something about your workflow.
Usually a melody comes to my mind and I transfer it to my classic keyboard (very old I have to say), trying to fix some things before moving on to MIDI and building the whole thing. Also, before starting, I try to listen to songs of the genre that I intend to work to already fit the mood.
How would creative rituals benefit your workflow?
They help inspire me and relax because I sometimes get stressed because I can’t “bring my idea to life.”
How do you get in the zone?
I try to start listening to some songs, a quick meditation or try to have fun with the keyboard because sometimes a cool idea comes up.
youtube
“summer breeze” lofi hip hop chill mix by sowfi
How do you start a track?
I once read in an interview that any good melody should be possible to summarize on a simple keyboard or guitar. That’s why I don’t always start directly in MIDI. Sometimes I play my instruments (keyboard or guitar) until I can establish the main melody I want. Then I move to MIDI and try to find some cool sound to build everything else.
Do you have a special template?
I usually like to start with a simple melody (sometimes melancholic hahah), with a soft piano, bells or flutes and always guaranteed a good bass. However, every project I try to try something new.
What do you put on the master channel?
EQ: Not always, but sometimes I like to emphasize a few specific frequencies a little.
Compressor: Nothing too crazy, just to make it all sound cool and interesting together. Also, make the dynamic range more consistent.
How do you arrange and finish a track?
Make sure all the instruments are sounding cool together, structure the project depending on the genre or artist preference I am working on and ensure the effects will start on time.
How do you deal with unfinished projects?
I usually take a break and go to work on other projects, because I think when it’s not working out, if you push too hard it will end up giving a bad and forced result. There were times when I went back to work on a song (which I didn’t even remember anymore) and suddenly I thought “OMG I know now what I can do in this song!” So it takes time to get inspiration.
How do you store and organize your projects?
I have a big file where I organize all my plans, ideas, work (it’s like an online studio) and there I have a folder with projects separated by genres and collaborations. And I keep notes for every song I do with key scale and BPM information for example.
How do you take care of studio ergonomics?
I always try to keep the studio as clean as possible, but lately I am undergoing reform and I need to buy more updated equipment so I think I still can not send a photo (sorry ;-; ).
Tell us something about your daily routine, how is your day structured, how do you make room for creativity?
I’ve been decorating my room lately. If I am not making music I am probably studying about it, listening to or seeking inspiration from the outdoors. And I try to meditate to heal the mind before a new challenge.
Share a quick producing tip.
Many may already know this, but when mixing the kick and the 808s try to make sure they are not fighting for space (cuz sometimes they share certain frequency ranges and this can cause some noise). Separate them by accentuating each other’s frequency in a different range (use EQ) to avoid strange sounds coming from the low frequencies.
Share a link to an interesting website (doesn’t have to be music related).
➜ Webtoons (I’ve been reading a lot lately lol).
List ten sounds you are hearing right this moment : )
Cars, the wind hitting the trees, children crying, white noise, my mom opening the door, Millic album called “VIDA” in the background, keyboard typing, buzina, a random dog, nothing more ~sad.

3. “Under/Over” by Gracie Abrams.
Under/Over is the shorter song in the EP, and it’s also my favorite.
NME wrote that this is one of those songs that are easily forgotten, but I don’t think so. For me, Under/Over is a minimalistic work of art. A production that doesn’t yell “Hear me!”, but instead, it says “Listen to me carefully, and appreciate the sounds within,” which include a simple but beautiful piano progression, different percussions, a distorted 808 bass, vocal harmonies, at least two synth pads (one which rises and disappears, and another that seems to be in reverse) and ringing bells.
This song goes straight to the point: Gracie starts singing and playing her Wurlitzer electric piano from the first phrase and until her very last one. In the first verse she tells us the story of a forgotten love, reminiscing the days when she could hardly function from a broken heart. She still remembers everything, and, like in “Friend”, she’s still able to access those feelings, even if she’s way over them.
The chorus also starts early, with just the one verse before it. The distorted 808 bass is introduced, giving the song more depth. The vocals turn into rhythmically playful words and a falsetto that couldn’t fit better, giving the song more sense of dimension and spectrum. The piano chords change a bit, but they always come home to a sweet resolution. Here, we get Gracie doesn’t quite understand her feelings, which is normal for a teen: A wave of emotions is enough to make you do or not do certain things. We tend to overthink and make mistakes, to do things we think are right for us, just to realize they aren’t, as she so states in the second verse: “Thought that I’d be good the day I took down all your pictures in my room”. As if it were that easy; Emotions and feelings are way much more complex than that, and, at the end of the second verse, she seems to understand this. (“Maybe I’m just getting confused”) Exactly.
The chorus repeats, with just a few production-wise variations (We now hear layers of delayed and echoed vocals, and a pad, which rises at the end and takes us towards the outro) and one BIG-LITTLE change in the lyrics. Now, instead of saying “I’m underwater, but I’m over you”, she sings “I’m underwater, am I over you?” She’s still confused, and rightfully so, as she’s been digging on past emotions, and most of us well know what happens when you do that: You might get stuck in the mud again. Unfortunately, we don’t get that answer from Gracie.
Next and quickly enough, is the outro, which to me is just perfect. It’s what makes me want to repeat the song all over again and get to that part yet again— although I hate that it happens to be the end. There are chopped vocal samples along with the ongoing percussive sounds that are put here and there in a clever rhythmical pattern all around my head, different kind of synth pads that work together in harmony, an airy synth that I can’t really name (be it a bubbly trumpet or a sax), and a bell-ish hit that reminds me of a sound from Super Smash Bros. It’s just all too much and too good. It certainly gives me Owl City’s “Fireflies” vibes, which adds to why this song is my favorite.
Personal Favorite Phrase: “I'm not chasing feelings that I don't understand"
Objective Findings:
Key: E
Instruments: Wurlitzer electro piano, vocals, 808 bass, different percussions, at least two synth pads, bells, that airy/bubbly trumpet (which I think is also a virtual instrument) and I’m really thinking there’s a Super Smash Bros sample there or something lol.
Chord Progression: III - VII - I three times, then VII - I - II
Effects: Reverb, delay, echo, stereo imaging, a chain of compressors, equalizers and limiters. Panning (which is not an effect, but boy did they panned away!)
Note: I’m sure they worked with more effects, but these are the ones that are more noticeable to me.
What do you think of “Under/Over”?

モーニング娘。'16『セクシーキャットの演説』
作詞:つんく 作曲:つんく 編曲:大久保薫
This song was composed by Tsunku and arranged by Okubu Kaoru.
This song was released on November 23, 2016 and was Morning Musume’s 62nd single.
I really really love this song. It one of my favorite songs that Morning Musume put out between album 14 and 15. Apparently not everyone shares my views, lol. No matter, because this sort of song is why I’m in the fanbase. Its a Jazzy EDM type number. I’m pretty sure the jazz this is based off of is Big Band Swing, which is largely brass based jazz. Its old, so its closely connected to the New Orleans marching band type of jazz, which I associate with tuba’s for bass. Instead of the string bass that was favored as jazz evolved. I also associate it with clarinets. Swing is old stuff, like 1930 and 1940’s. I’m not sure why, but Japanese people LOVE Swing jazz, I hear it so much in their pop culture. I hear newer and older forms of jazz much less often. Like the aforementioned New Orleans jazz, I also hear very little be-bop and cool jazz. But Fusion Jazz was very well represented in the end of the Showa era, I must add. It was in anime, video games, idol music, tv. Japan has treated fusion jazz well :)
Anyways swing jazz is about rhythm… no wonder Tsunku uses it.
Now this song is NOT Jazz, its just Jazz-like, just like most idol music. So many parts of the song are just standard pop. But they certainly were going for a Benny Goodman Sing sing sing type feel. I guess even though Tsunku is a Musician, he feels actually writing songs outside of jpop / kayokyoku just is not profitable in Japan. But I think this song is at its most amazing when it is flirting with the jazziness, like at the bridge and the chorus right after the bridge. That walking bassline and twinkling of the keys in that post bridge pre chorus is worth the price of admission in my opinion! The harmonies in the vocals are always very nice in Hello Project songs, but they are exceptional in this song. If you listen to the harmonizing vocal parts, they are so jazzy. Take Duu’s part around 3:00, Duu sings an a (song is in E- minor), then slides up to the b- and the harmonizing part sings the g- the whole time with the bass on a b g- a little movement. So simple, but that sort of juicy chord is why I’m here :)
It sounds like the saxaphone in this song is one of the bigger saxes like a tenor sax. As this internet citizen commented the sax “riff” from the beginning is the same one from Juice-Juice’s song. Its in a different key of course, but they are right… and I don’t care because I liked it in Juice=Juice’s song and I like it in Morning Musume’s song. Its like public domain samples in music in general, I don’t care. Just make something fun with it. Its essentially a jazz trio-esque sound, despite being inspired by the big band sound. Its a synth (including the synth brass thats plastered all over this track), sax, drums, and bass. The drums switch between 808-esque drum samples and big band timpani-esque samples. There are these little synth strings in little parts of the song that add more old timey feel to the track.
Like I said one of my favorite songs in recent Morning Musume history. I also really love the visuals for the music video, but thats neither here nor there.

Track #7 from Enshrouded: Angels - "The Rapper's Ego" feat. @height_keech and @messiah_in__glytch https://m.soundcloud.com/ardamus/07-the-rappers-ego-feat-height?in=ardamus/sets/enshrouded-angels-ep Keeping that bell theme going production wise in terms of the melody. But I wanted more of an 80s theme yet brought to the modern times styled beat. I had some of those 808 basses to play with and some 90s styled drums I wanted to blend in. Now this song went thru some changes because I definitely had it in my mind it was kind of like a rock the bells feel but the bells were different this time to rock, lol. Like I wanted to speak on the fact being humble in hip hop didn't seem like it was a good look at all. And tons of artists I have met and never met but have seen got ahead of themselves to never sit down to look at the reality of their situation. Yet there is a constant to put a battery in their back all the time. S/O to the homie #HeightKeech of @coldrhymesrecords who told me when he got on this track that dipped into his #KoolKeith bag for this track which is funny because I kinda of ended up formulating more of hook with that same influence in mind. And @rashaddobins of #TheCornelWestTheory is a beast and his vocals were saw raw that we gave it extra special treatment when it came in. Glad we were able to close out this EP with this track.
