Probably my favorite non-fiction book by Klosterman since Killing Yourself to Live. Chuck is one of the rare modern authors whose work I've devoured in totality since I discovered him. A friend levied the complaint that he too often puts forth opinion as fact, but isn't that true of any media of this nature? Seems like it comes with the territory, part and parcel, etc. If anything, this felt like the most researched and non-subjective thing he's ever written. As a very young Gen-Xer or decrepit Millennial (take your pick: I was born halfway through '81 and feel like I experienced the bulk of the titular decade as still but a child), my perception of the angle he often takes (he's firmly in the Gen-X demo) didn't totally jive.

i may be swinging a bat at a hornet's nest here, but what is this website for if not controversy: i do think it's a little funny that every time a mediocre to bad pitchfork review comes out for a tumblr fave, their fanbases act as though it's the only time the publication has ever done this. they're an outrage machine. their staff has very specific tastes, and have given albums that were universally acclaimed by other publications middling ratings. it doesn't mean that the reviewer doesn't understand your blorbo. they just didn't like it. your blorbo is doing just fine because of YOU.

Anything that you could reasonably do in the dark or extremely low light, I can do without my glasses. Think going to kitchen for a glass of water at 2:00am, that kind of thing.

If you want me to do anything else? I must have my glasses. I couldn't, for example, read a book or play games on my phone/computer, or leave the house for any reason, because I literally couldn't see a thing. And forget driving! Not happening!

just out of curiosity bc some people I know with glasses can just go a few hours or a day without them and be chill but I need them on all the time or I’ll go crazy
