To have failed in killing Shinichi Kudo . . . he's made a huge oversight.

My video for SLICE (Short Little Iron Chef Edits), at BentoVid! The goal was to create at least a 90-second AMV within 100 hours, using a song from a list of songs only revealed at the start of the challenge. Given my slow editing, I can't believe I did it, but I did!

KAIJUU NO.8 MANGA SPOILERS

Iharu chasing Reno like Kafka chases Mina is such a cool detail.

Iharu and Kafka are older, they were supposed to be the leaders, they were supposed to protect!!! Instead, Reno and Mina ended up being on the spotlight as some of the strongest prodigies of their generations.

Reno and Mina's responsibility sense is so strong it is tearing them apart: they think every death and failure is their fault. Mina from chapter 102 to 109, Reno in chapters 59 to 64... It hurts me sooo bad to see the truth they are hiding. No one can shoulder so much alone— and in the end, that's why Iharu ends up becoming like Kafka (or in one more parallel, what Jugo wanted to be for Hikari).

Just like Kafka and Jugo, Iharu struggles with the fact he won't be the person he envisioned he'll be within the Defense Corps. It started as motivation in the form of a rivalry, but the more the prodigies grew and left them behind, the more they realized it was no longer children's play. Hikari is the living example of it: she burned out, sacrificed herself to stop a monster and left Jugo struggling with the survivor guilt.

It drives one of my favorite themes of Kaiju No.8: rivalries that turn into unyielding support for the other, because they won't allow anyone to stay behind / they can't continue if one of them can't keep moving forward.

Kafka and Iharu had to understand that they still had a chance, that Mina and Reno wouldn't leave them alone deliberately because they didn't want to be alone. No one wants that, if they have a say in the matter. Unlike Jugo, who can't do anything else now that Hikari is dead, the new generation can aspire to support their way to victory.

So, really. It's simply cute that we see Kafka and Mina being such an influence to the new gen. The whole "I need to be by her side" and "I'll wait for you to reach me" is an amazing driving force for a story about people fighting a Kaiju apocalypse.

Bill advanced quickly in school, skipping grade levels and starting early in college. In his free time, he would talk to Tad about all the cool things he was learning and wanted to know. After some time, he started taking an interest in the obscure. However, Bill noticed Tad slowly drifting away and asked what was wrong.

When Tad said that life was just busy, Bill was upset. Believing Tad saw him as a burden and feeling guilty for wasting his time. Bill was also a little annoyed. He was so used to being Tad's center of attention that, when he wasn't, he felt Tad didn't care about him anymore. So Bill started talking to Tad less and kept things brief. Eventually, he lost contact with him but thought it was for the best, hoping that Tad would reach out when he was able.

After Tad left, Bill was alone. He only made this worse by closing himself off from others and leaning further into his education and research. However, as Bill learned more, he slowly began spiraling into an unhealthy dependence on knowledge. Bill didn't know when Tad would return, didn't know how to help him, or how to fix their tattered relationship.

These were problems that Bill couldn't solve, questions he couldn't answer. So why dwell on them? Instead, he focused on things he could figure out, delving further into the strange happenings of the world.

Bill started to discover things he never believed were real and questions yet to be answered. Questions he could answer. So Bill took the step to switch his main course of study from the mathematical and scientific to the oddities of the world.

Along the way, Bill slowly opened himself back up and managed to make friends with like-minded people who helped further his research. Eventually, he found himself in a place filled with the strange and unusual, a sleepy town in Oregon called Gravity Falls. There, Bill discovered countless supernatural wonders that he took to studying–recording his findings in a journal.

After a few years, Bill noticed that he had recorded many supernatural occurrences but not the reason for their occurrences. Bill had hit a roadblock in his studies and struggled to work around it.

He looks at his own home, at the white walls and the color makes his wrists itch in that moment. The white walls of his previous apartment hadn’t bothered him, but now the white walls feel like they’re tickling something in his head that he wants to remain untouched.

He heads back out of his house.

He comes back hours later with multiple tester cans of paint and finds Aaron and Katelyn’s car parked in the driveway.

In retrospect, looks like this was foreshadowing the Shie Hassaikai Arc as well as All for One. I'm also really curious about the internet rumors about All for One. To an extent, it's probably mostly things that All for One would allow to spread about him because until at least 5-6 years before canon he basically ran the criminal underworld.

Also that line "when a person has power, they instinctively seek a way to use it." All for One says pretty much the same thing as a justification when he was in Tartarus (around the time he refused to return search to Rag Doll). In this context, it sounds like All Might is agreeing with All for One and hero society overall that some quirks are inherently villainous.

And this idea that naturally villainous quirks exist clearly clashes with Izuku's worldview. Izuku most likely could not have articulated this disagreement well at this point in the story, but it's unfortunate that there was never any conflict between All Might and Izuku concerning this core difference in their values.
