MC and I are so in sync right now. Rafayel failed to get the last Artsy Birb needed to complete the collection, and the greedy fish refused to leave the claw machine.

Here is a humorous story I just ran across. Can you imagine the guts of a KC 135Q pilot ( Erik Swanson) taking on an SR 71 in a race? Yes, this did happen. I knew that our own fighter pilots were constantly trying to race an SR 71. I knew that the Russians dreamed of the time when they could catch up with one.
Everyone wanted to race them even their own tankers!
As the SR-71 pilot topped off his fuel tanks I talked to him on the special boom interphone. He was a newly checked out SR-71 pilot and I wanted to see if he was up for a challenge. I challenged the SR-71 pilot that after he completed refuelling and lit his afterburners I could beat him in a race from our current altitude of 26,000ft to 37,000ft (11,278m). Straight away he accepted the challenge. Being lighter having offloaded so much fuel we were now flying at Mach 0.86. My throttles were set high and my gross weight was light. He was at almost full gross weight and slow. He lit the afterburners; I clicked off the autopilot and started to rapidly climb. He was slow to accelerate at first and soon realised his mistake in accepting the challenge.
I beat him to 37,000ft! 😮
We were radio-silent, so there was no discussion of the incident. Competition is great when the odds are in your favour.
The SR-71 pilot and I talked after returning from the mission. He pleaded with me not to tell anyone that a KC-135Q had out climbed him.
I admitted it was an unfair challenge and agreed to his request.
This incident happened 25 years ago and so enough time has passed for me to reveal the winner of our race.
The final part of this mission was tricky. The SR-71 made it down on the first attempt. The other KC-135Qs had diverted to nearby RAF Lakenheath. I made a preliminary instrument approach to Mildenhall in high crosswinds and with a low cloud base. The approach was made more difficult by the buildings along the approach path causing gusting wind conditions. I went around for another instrument approach, requesting the winds from the control tower every few seconds. I got down to minimums and was cleared for landing. The co-pilot called the tower for the wind speed and direction on short final and tower did not answer. The assumption was made that the crosswinds were within maximum limits.
In a crosswind KC-135 pilots were taught to fly the final approach in a crab condition to stay aligned with the runway. As a pilot transitions to land, the crab angle is corrected by pushing in the rudder to align the nose of the aircraft with the runway, and opposite aileron to cancel out the rolling effect caused by the rudder. This worked well in most crosswind conditions. When the crosswind became very strong it required more rudder and more opposite aileron causing the aircraft to land in a wing low condition. Because the engine pods were slung beneath the wings, the maximum amount of bank was limited to 8°.
Any more would cause an engine pod to strike the ground resulting in a possible engine fire, structural damage or potentially loss of control of the aircraft. I used a differential throttle technique that was not taught to KC-135 pilots, but had learned it from one of my early Aircraft Commanders who was extremely knowledgeable on the Stratotanker. If the wind was from the left, as in this case, the nose of the aircraft would tend to weathervane into the wind. By adding additional power on the outer left engine, less right rudder was required to keep the nose straight and thus less opposite aileron input was needed. This technique allowed the KC-135 to land in direct crosswinds greater than 25kts (46km/h) without scraping an engine pod.
A successful landing was made with my knees knocking by the time I turned off the runway!

The pub was noisy as ever, a patchwork crowd of blue and green, British and American, filling the low-ceilinged room, the stench of cigarette smoke and stale beer thick in the air. It seemed to Frankie that she only ever managed to get that smell washed out of her uniform in time to come straight back here and acquire it again, but it was the only place they could manage to find some real fun - after all, there were no men and no booze allowed in their Nissen hut. Although both rules had been known to be flouted.
"Stop fiddling with that, you'll make it worse," George tutted, batting at Frankie's arm as she took a sip of her beer. When one of the forts had crashed in a ball of flames earlier that week, she had seared herself helping to clear the debris, a burn mark running across the palm of her right hand. In her moments of absent-mindedness, she often found herself toying with the bandage, which caused the nurses great dismay when the dressings inevitably frayed and needed replacing.
"I can't make it worse, it's already almost healed," She shrugged, plucking a cigarette from her breast pocket. The two women had long since learned that bringing a whole pack led to nothing but strangers begging for a smoke, so they each only ever brought one out with them - besides, a pleasant smile could always swindle a hapless soldier out of another, should the need arise. "Hurt like a bitch, but the nurse lanced all the blisters the other day."
George grimaced, wiping some foam from the corner of her lip. As she let her gaze wander to the next table over, the voices of the men behind them growing more audible by the minute, she sighed. "Oh, here we go."
Craning her neck to have a look, Frankie watched on for a moment, recognising the faces of Egan, Cleven and the others as they chatted with a few RAF airmen in less-than-friendly tones. A crooked grin made its way across her expression, and she wiggled her brow at George as she stood up, taking her pint with her.
"Frank, no," Her companion whispered, tugging at her sleeve.
"Come on," She giggled. The pair burrowed their way through the dense crowds that crammed the pub, breaking free beside the men's table, lingering momentarily behind the three RAF pilots.
"So, let me get this straight," One of them asked. "You're Buck, and he's Bucky?"
"Is there a shortage of nicknames in the 100th?" Another spoke, a smug smirk creasing his cheeks.
Frankie took another sip of her beer and spoke up, the sudden sound drawing the attention of all of the men at the table. "No, but there is a shortage of tossers, I'm sure you could fill the ranks," She said sweetly.
"Wa-hey!" Bucky cheered, a pink tinge on his cheeks indicating that he was already reasonably intoxicated. Wordlessly, he leapt to his feet, scrounging for a pair of extra chairs for the two women.
"Hiya, George," Biddick smiled dreamily, cradling in his in the palm of his hand. "How ya doin'? You look nice."
"I'm doing good, thanks Curt," George smiled, accepting a seat with a quick thanks to Bucky. Frankie let out a snort as she sat down beside her.
"Only thing we're short of is crews, gents," Egan sighed, taking his place between Frankie and Cleven and attempting to drape an arm across the back of her chair before she shoved him off.
"Hm. Pity," One of the RAF men said, condescension dripping in his tone.
"Pity what, exactly?" Frankie urged, getting the distinct feeling that there was a whole argument bubbling under the surface here that she had not been party to.
"Well, they'd have more if they flew their missions at night - as an RAF woman yourself, surely you must know that."
She raised a brow, talking over the rim of her glass as she took another sip of beer. She could feel Bucky tensing beside her. "Yunno, if the RAF paid me a bit more I might feel some loyalty to them, but I'm with the Yanks. You're the prick here, mate." George lifted her glass in a silent toast of agreement, a smirk curling the corner of her lips.
The Englishman's jaw clenched as he peeled his irritated gaze away from her to look at the men. "I think we ought to make some sport of this. Any one of you will do."
"Oh, don't say that, Frankie'll beat your ass," Bucky muttered under his breath, just quiet enough that only she and Cleven could hear, grins spreading across their expressions.
"Sounds like an excellent idea," Cleven rose to his feet to accept the challenge, but before he could, Biddick was up beside him, tugging at his sleeve. He spoke in a low voice, and Frankie couldn't quite make out what he was saying, but she pieced it together when Curt's gaze kept flickering from Cleven to George, who watched on with a frown. He wanted to take the fight - wanted to impress her.
Once it was settled that Curt would be the one to fight, the group moved swiftly outside, half-empty drinks long forgotten at the table as they hurried to watch the spectacle. The alley outside the pub was unlit, the glow from inside casting faint shadows against the cobbles as they formed a tight circle, watching on expectantly. Frankie's cigarette hung from her lips, a cloud of smoke rising in front of her as Curt and the RAF airman began to circle one another, fists raised.
George clung tight to her elbow, grinning in anticipation. The Englishman caught the edge of a wonky paving stone, stumbling slightly, and the two women let out unflattering snorts. Curt winked at them, and Frankie rolled her eyes, although even in the darkness she could tell George was blushing.
"What do I get when I win?" He called over, tearing his gaze from his opponent.
It was George's turn to roll her eyes now. "I'll let you buy me a drink."
His boyish face lit up, and it seemed he had been wholly distracted from the fight. The Englishman lunged forward to take advantage of this, but Biddick didn't miss a beat, knocking him down with a single blow. Frankie let out a raucous cheer of celebration, her friend clapping along as the men whooped and jeered at each other.
"Milady," Curt grinned, holding out his hand to George, who accepted gladly, allowing him to lead her back into the pub for another drink. Frankie let out a huff, smiling as she stomped out her cigarette and watched the other RAF airmen pick their fallen comrade up off the ground. Letting out another laugh, the sound of it erupting into the night air, she began to follow the men of the 100th, finally letting Bucky sling his arm around her shoulders as they wandered back towards the Nissen huts, singing and shouting in celebration of Curt's victory.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was not yet five in the morning as Frankie scrounged to tie her bootlaces in the dark, toothbrush dangling out of her mouth, unbrushed hair tugged back into a messy ponytail. The pilots were taking off shortly after daybreak, and as some of the most senior mechanics at Thorpe Abbotts, the job often fell to her and Lemmons to carry out the last-minute safety checks and refuelling to ensure they'd all make it back in one piece.
None of the other women in her hut were required for duty yet, so Frankie did her best to shuffle about in the darkness as quietly as possible, refusing to turn on her bedside lamp so as not to wake George or any of her other less forgiving bunkmates.
Standing up from the edge of the bed once she'd finished tying her laces, she groped around blindly for her key to the mechanics' hut, accidentally banging her elbow on the corner of her metal bedframe in the process, waves of pain shooting up her arm. Pursing her lips tightly together, her whole body tensed, Frankie managed to find the key, waiting until she'd left the hut so that the cool night air would drown out the sounds of her pain.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" She hissed as she scurried for her bike, waving her injured arm around wildly as if the movement could somehow dull the pain. She was so distracted that she'd almost completely forgotten about the burn on her hand - that is, until she clamped the handlebar with her injured palm and let out a yelp.
The sun was already rising as Frankie arrived on the airstrip, breaks squeaking as she wheeled to a stop outside the mechanics' hut, Lemmons already on site as he wrung his palms with one of the dirty rags they used to clean away excess lubricant. "You look like hell," He pointed out as she dismounted her bike, locking it up around the side of the building.
"Thanks, Ken," She replied sarcastically. "Rough wake-up call, beat myself up stumbling around in the dark."
Ken chuckled, handing over her toolkit. The pair had far few hours of sleep between them to chat as they worked, and it was all Frankie could do not to yawn as she checked the fuel tanks and oiled the landing gear. They'd been out for over an hour by the time the flight crews began to show up, the familiar sound of jeep engines pulling up behind her as she declared her job done.
"She ready to roll?" Bucky's voice rang out, and Frankie almost flinched as he clapped her over the shoulder, still reeling from the man's constant lack of volume regulation.
"All good," She confirmed. "Now get her outta my sight, and bring her back in one piece - can you handle that?"
He smirked. "Oh, you know I can."
"The number of wrecks you've given me would say otherwise, dear," Frankie teased, wiping engine grease off of her fingers with a rag as she turned on her heel, heading back towards the mechanics' hut.
"Hey!" Egan called, and she looked back at him. "You ain't gonna watch us take off?"
"The only thing I'm doing now is taking a goddamn nap," She laughed, feeling exhaustion tugging at her eyelids.
"Yeah, fair, you do look like shit," Bucky shrugged, recoiling as her filthy, oily rag smacked him in the shoulder as Frankie lobbed it across the airstrip. "Hey!"
"Respect women, you little bitch," She retorted, raising a middle finger as she wandered off, praying she could make the bike ride back to her bed without dozing off and crashing into a bush somewhere.
Frankie slept through the morning, right past lunch, and would've missed the cacophony of plane engines returning overhead had Lemmons not come to retrieve her, banging on the window above her bed. She peeled her eyes open slowly, waking with a start as she noticed the boyish face staring down at her through the glass.
"What the fuck?!" She asked groggily, voice raised so that he could hear her from outside.
"They're back, come on!"
Letting out a huff, Frankie dragged herself out from under the blankets, running her fingers through the knots in her hair for want of time to properly brush it. Stepping out through the front door as she finished fastening the top few buttons of her coveralls, Ken stood waiting for her, passing his weight impatiently between the balls of his feet.
"How's it lookin'?"
"Uh, all the ones we've got so far look alright. Although..." He trailed off, glancing awkwardly at her as they fetched their bikes.
"Although?"
"Biddick may have... crashed. In, uh... Scotland."
"He what?!"
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Once it had been established that Biddick was still, in fact, alive, Frankie had few kind words to say about the pilot's wreckless flying, mourning the loss of a plane and the strings they'd have to pull to find a new one. Fortunately, George had been in an especially persuasive mood that night, and had managed to rope her into attending the party that was being held for the airmen to celebrate the success of their mission.
"Watch what they're calling a success, I'm the one who's gotta figure out how to ship a wrecked plane back from fucking Scotland," Frankie muttered as they approached the building, muffled music coming from inside as she tugged at the shoulders of her jacket, trying to force it to sit comfortably.
"Oh, stop complaining," George scoffed, grabbing her arm and forcing her to stop as she reached up to fix a smudge in her lipstick. "Look on the bright side for once - he didn't die!"
"That's especially good for you with your lovey-dovey eyes, huh? 'Oh hiya George, how ya doin' George, you look real pretty today George'," Frankie teased, putting on an utterly terrible American accent as she attempted to mimick Curt. George punched her in the arm and went inside without a word, a natural pink flush visible through her rouge.
The band was in full swing as Frankie followed her inside, the mingling crowds a mix of uniformed airmen, plainclothed local women, and a few servicewomen she recognised from the neighbouring huts. She was struggling to pretend she had ever wanted to come, nose burrowed in a glass of whiskey as she managed to dodge the flirting of a few slightly intoxicated pilots. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy parties - she just preferred them when there was no mountain of work hanging over her head for the following day. It was just as well she'd slept through lunch, otherwise her mood would've been frightful.
Bucky wanted to sing. He could feel the music running through his body, his toe tapping involuntarily against the polished floor as he sat slumped in a seat beside Buck. His friend had never enjoyed Bucky's singing - and although he pretended not to, he understood why. He couldn't carry a tune to save his life, but dammit if it wasn't fun.
The consensus had been a resounding no. No, he could not sing. But that was no fun - that was no way to celebrate, not in Bucky's book. He had caught Cleven off guard as he bolted from his seat, just quick enough to break away before his friend could grab him by the shoulder and drag him back down again. Approaching the microphone, an excited grin creasing his cheeks, his gaze scanned over the crowd before stopping on an unfamiliar face.
If anything, his performance would only be enhanced by a partner.
Frankie was beginning her second whiskey, lingering by George's shoulder as she made small talk with one of the radar operators from the women's hut next door. Bucky had tried to call her over once, but over the music and the crowd, she hadn't heard. He paused for a moment, wracking his brain for a way to get her attention without giving up the microphone. If he stepped away, he wouldn't have put it past Buck not to have the thing removed so that he couldn't perform.
"Fran!"
She turned to him instantaneously, ears pricked like a hunting dog, expression contorted with the murderous promise to carry out the threat she had issued the last time he'd used the nickname.
"Sing with me," Bucky beamed, holding out his hand. A smirk began to spread across her face, and he could see George patting her shoulder, egging her on. With a grin, Frankie passed her drink to the blonde, crossing the gap between them and meeting him at the mic as he cheered. Cleven's head was in his hands.
"You know the words?" He whispered.
"Well enough," She affirmed.
Never saw the sun shinin' so bright,
Never saw things goin' so right,
His suspicion had been correct. Frankie couldn't carry a tune any better than he could, onlookers grimacing at the complete lack of musical talent the pair possessed. Occasionally the lyrics would collapse into laughter as Bucky noted the way she had to crane her neck to even reach the microphone, but there was not a hint of embarrassment between them.
Watchin' the days hurryin' by,
When you're in love, my how they fly,
She caught his eye for a moment, their grins audible in their voices as they fought to keep up with the quick pace set by the band behind them. Arms outstretched, the curls in her hair bounced with each tap of her foot as she leant into the mic, their cheeks practically pressed together. The whiskey had left her slightly flushed, the tip of her nose blooming pink the way it always did. Anyone looking on probably must have thought there was something deeper between the two - the way they stood so close, their cheeks flushed pink, unable to keep a straight face whenever their eyes met. Frankie loved Bucky, that much was true, but it was the kind of platonic love that veered more into brotherhood than it ever would romance. If he had ever tried to kiss her, she probably would have knocked him out.
Blue days, all of them gone,
Nothin' but blue skies from now on,
He seized her by her shoulders in a fierce bear hug, and she let out a guffaw, so loud and so close to the microphone that it sent a shrill squeak of feedback around the room, the crowd grimacing for a moment before Bucky tugged her away and the terrible sound ceased. George was unable to clap for the glasses she held in both hands, but she whooped and cheered from the side of the room, the only person in the place giving them the true encore they both believed they deserved.
"I think we have a future in the industry," Bucky muttered into her ear, making her laugh again as they swayed side to side, his vice grip refusing to let up until she began pinching the flesh on the backs of his hands.
"Major!" A man called, scurrying up to them. "Major Egan sir, you've got a call."
"Alright, comin'," He nodded, clapping her over the shoulder as he made his way to the bar, where Cleven was already standing with the telephone.
George stepped up once Frankie was alone, returning her half-finished whiskey. "That was really something," She chuckled, voice raised over the music.
"I didn't know I had it in me," Frankie shrugged. "Y'know, that much raw, untapped talent should never go to waste, it's a tragedy." Her friend laughed, but Frankie's gaze had wandered over to the bar again, where the two Majors chatted jovially to whoever was on the other end of the line.
"Is that-?" She muttered to herself, telling George to give her a minute as she marched up to the men, leaning casually against the bar. Flashing a calm smile, she nodded to Cleven as Bucky chatted away on the phone. "Hey, is that Biddick on the line?"
"Sure is, all the way from-"
Cleven never got time to finish his sentence before she had darted in between the two men, wrenching the phone from Egan's hand before he had time to even register her presence. "Wh- hey!"
"Did you crash my fucking plane, Curt?" She snapped, the man on the other end of the line letting out a tiny yelp of surprise.
"Frankie!" Curtis chuckled nervously. "How's Georgie doin', is she well?"
"Answer the question, Biddick, did you - oh, piss off, Bucky," Frankie spoke hurriedly, slapping at Egan's hands as he tried to pry the receiver away from her. "What were you thinking?"
"Y'know," Biddick continued, completely dodging the question yet again. "The Scottish - they don't like you English very much, Frank."
"Historically speaking, that's pretty fair," She sighed, running a hand across her face. "Just... ask whoever's with if they've got a truck that can bring your wreck back from... where is it again?"
"Mostly in the vegetable patch."
"Right. Good to know. Now get your ass back here or I'm gonna set George up on a date with one of the ground crew boys."
She pulled the receiver away from her ear, chuckling at the muffled sound of Curt's protests as she handed the phone back to Bucky, who snatched it from her with a look as if to say 'What the hell?'.
"Yeah," He nodded along to whatever Biddick was now saying. "Yeah, uh-huh, I promise I won't let her. Don't you worry, dear." Bucky shot her a sideways glance and she snorted with laughter, holding her hands up in surrender as she backed away from the bar.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The sky lit up a dozen shades of orange, red and blue, the faint thrum of explosions and gunfire rattling overhead as the anti-aircraft guns did their best to destroy the enemy's fight planes, high up through the clouds.
Frankie lingered outside the shelter, watching with her arms folded across her chest. Her pin curls never held for more than a couple of hours, and a halo of frizz encircled her head as a result of the night's commotion, eyes reflecting the stippling of lights above.
One of the airmen hurried past her towards the shelter, brow drawn inwards with anxiety, sweat visible on his brow even in the dark. He glanced at her, and almost went on his way, but back-tracked just as he was about the head down the steps.
"Uh, ma'am?" He urged. "We should really get inside."
"Yeah, in a minute," Frankie waved her hand, doing a double take as she realised the man looked familiar. "Hey, it's, uh - Crosby, right?"
He almost smiled. "Yes, ma'am. You're Ms Bevan, I believe - on the ground crew."
"Right you are. But call me Frankie, everyone else does."
Crosby didn't seem to know what to say to that, and settled for a simple, awkward nod. "We should really get in-"
"It gets a lot less scary when you're - what, three years in?" She paused a long moment before sucking in a breath, tearing her gaze from the sky above as she pointed at Crosby. "Hang on, aren't you the one whose vomit we keep having to clean out?"
Even in the dark, she could see his face turn beet red. "Oh, I am so sorry about it, ma'am, I swear I'm trying not to, it's just-"
Frankie chuckled, and he trailed off, clutching his uniform cap tightly with both hands. "Don't worry about it. I make the boys do it anyway, I don't touch the stuff," She grinned. "I'd probably do the same. I know more about planes than all of your pilots put together, but I've never flown in one before."
Crosby let out a huff at her confession, suddenly more at ease despite the chaos overhead. When he stared at it the way she did, the lights and sounds were almost beautiful. Almost.
"Why don't you head down below," She said. "Your COs will start wondering where you've got to."
He nodded, reaching the top of the steps that led down to the shelter and then holding out a hand, as if offering to help her down them. When Frankie just smiled, not moving an inch from her position, he took the hint, nodding as he began to descend.
"Oh, and Crosby!" She called. He doubled back, head peeking up over the wall. "Try chewing ginger root. Or a mint leaf. I've heard they help with the air sickness."
Crosby nodded again, firmly, as he took a mental note of her advice. "Thank you, ma'am - uh, Frankie."
She grinned. "Any time."

Tfp x Pacific Rim.
They've been on earth a while, then suddenly a giant kaiju pops up and they learn humans have giant robots as big as Plexs (the bots that turn into cities) The biggest bots in the series are only around 30-40ft, jaegers usually reach past 300ft. A jaeger could stomp Optimus and Megatron into the ground and never notice it. And they're only piloted by two humans, mentally in sync and battle hardened, willing to kill anything that threatens their planet. The horrifying realization that humans could wipe them out if they really wanted to.
Or maybe it could be post TFP, and they all decide to come back to earth to visit/see the kids, and are immediately held at jaeger gunpoint, or witness a kaiju flatten a city.
This immediately came to mind.
I don't know what would be more humiliating for a Cybertronian. Getting your ass kicked by Pacific Rim's Jaeger or Kaiju No 8's Defense Force with their exo suits. I guess how close the human is determines that.
Going off canon here with both factions just arriving on Earth instead of being present for three years or returning. This is because Pacific Rim's PPDC absolutely slam down any attempts for the bots to continue their war. Dealing with Kaiju made by hostile aliens is already a handful so extraterrestrial beings who can't end a millennium long feud turned 'spat' is unacceptable.
Both factions get captured as the Decepticons are first. Radars caught the Nemesis appearing in Earth's atmosphere and two Jaegers immediately intercepted the ship. Buckethead is still pissed about it as EMPs were utilized for incapacitation once their machine like nature been seen.
The Autobots took longer to find since they immediately went into hiding. Raf, Miko and Jack are responsible for their respective bot guardian's capture. A Kaiju attack had occurred with the kids being unable to evacuate to safety.
Bumblebee, Arcee, and Bulkhead risked their cover to protect them from the monster. The kids were watched over by the bots as their families hadn't been located yet. Original plan was to return the Jasper Trio home and disappear once more.
Something that doesn't happen as another Kaiju attack near their base led to the PPDC finding the Autobots. Jack, Miko and Raf were able to plea for them to not hurt the group. Both the Autobots alongside the kids get taken into custody afterwards.
Or how the war came to a humorous yet humiliating end as both factions were forced to make peace with each other.

Still working backwards through all your Hi-Note goodness (omg so much extra good tidbits on this site!) and found your post with the Emoji Themed OC Interview Questions - Masterlist… SooOOoo
🍞 [BREAD] Does your OC have any allergies? How severe are they? Do they require equipment to help them?-Raf, Margie, Lawrence
I know this is from .. 8 months ago but I was curious about allergies for those three for several days now (not Cortes- she is infallible).
I’m sure Raf’s first response would be “users/fake friends.. confrontations” sorta thing but I’m curious if there are food or environment allergies? Is one allergic to the fluffball but loves it anyway? Does that cat have allergies they have to throw ridiculous amounts of money at air purifiers and even more house cleaning than Raf already does?
oouh! haha good question!
Raf is allergic to cats, mildly...not enough to deter him😩
Margie gets hay fever in the spring lmao
for both Margie and Raf, antihistamines do the trick, but I think once Lawrence comes into the picture, Raf would have an air purifier in the bedroom...in vain attempt to lessen that cat allergies. [Raf, you let him sleep on ur bed...that's the problem].
Cortes doesn't have allergies, perse...but every once in a while, she gets looking a little uncomfy...until she suddenly horks up this big, dense ball of heavy metals that she's been accumulating like a pearl inside of her 😬
Lawrence...is perfection...unbothered by the world around him, [except he hates...the cast iron pots, the cutlery, the fridge, the stove, the car, the Tess, the washing machine and dryer...]

MASTERPIECE on PBS has announced the premiere dates and released first look images for All Creatures Great and Small Season 4 and Miss Scarlet and The Duke Season 4. Plus, read on to find out what is ahead in each of the new seasons.
On Sunday, January 7, 2024, the two fan favorite British dramas will return for their fourth seasons. Miss Scarlet and The Duke will kick off that night at 8/7c, and will be immediately followed by All Creatures Great and Small at 9/8c.
In Miss Scarlet and The Duke Season 4, Eliza (Kate Phillips) has taken over the business of Nash & Sons (not that he has any sons) and things are not going entirely smoothly, although help comes from some familiar sources. Outside of work, her relationship with William “The Duke” Wellington (Stuart Martin) builds towards a looming decision that will shape both their lives.

Health Secretary Orders Critical Review of NHS Performance
The new health secretary Mr Wes Streeting has commissioned an independent review of the NHS performance in England. He wants to reveal the bitter truths about the present day situation of the service which he defined as disintegrated. Streeting stated in a newspaper article that the results of this inquiry will be incorporated into his 10-year plan for the NHS. In order to transform the NHS, Streeting had to take his time in explaining the problem's diagnosis. He said, “For anyone who has an interoperation in or uses the NHS it is only too obvious that the service is fatally flawed.” Patients are now having to wait 8 to 12 weeks for some operations. Getting a doctor's appointment is difficult, and the ambulance's response time is unpredictable. Chris McAndrew, CC BY 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0, via Wikimedia Commons Speaking to so many people during the election campaign, Streeting came across tens of thousands of people who had been let down by the NHS. Among them are an RAF veteran who anticipates having to wait 15 months for a procedure, and an 88-year-old woman who fell out of bed and has been waiting for an ambulance for three hours. Streeting pointed out that these are not rare cases but the reality faced by many patients in the country. Hard Truths for a Broken System A new study on the matter claims that the attempts to reduce the number of patients awaiting treatment in the NHS have been decreased and have now returned to normal. Currently, it is possible to state that no major waiting time standards related to A&E, hospitals, or cancer treatment have been achieved in England since 2012. The value of reversing the pre-COVID trajectory of the NHS in England lies in acquiring fresh data of waiting times which will be unveiled on Thursday, the first time since the new government took its post. Some of the previous concerns raised by the Nuffield Trust’s experts include that Labour is likely to inherit a list of patients who have booked appointments for pre-scheduled hospital treatments, and the list contains about 7. 5 million people in England are now on a waiting list, this is a third higher than before the Covid crisis. Although some categories of the waiting list have decreased significantly in recent months, like the surgery for cataract, other essential surgeries have not been as successful in regaining the levels of the same period of 2020. The investigation will be conducted by Lord Ara Darzi who had served as an adviser and minister to the Labour governments under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. It should now be noted that Lord Darzi is an independent peer who means to contribute a lot of experience and knowledge to the consideration. According to Streeting, it is possible to bring a renaissance in the NHS if the mentioned issues are addressed effectively. Indeed, the situation can be changed in NHS but before it happens one must know what is ailing the system, the man said. This paper is an important process of evaluating the state of modern NHS and revealing the reasons for many problems as well as finding the ways of their solutions. Presently, the context suggests that the resuming review and its outcome will be instrumental for charting the further development of the NHS. Despite his relatively young age, Streeting is dedicated to the health service, and as the new Health Secretary, he wants the health service to be capable of handling the population’s needs in the most efficient way. The public along with the NHS staff will be closely observing the results of this particular probe coupled with the management steps that will be taken to advance the service. This extensive literature review seeks to identify the core problems that affect the NHS so that an effective and efficient solution can be propounded. As such, it is quite clear that Streeting’s initiative is a loud step forward towards a more efficient, transparent and trustworthy NHS for the public. Read the full article

The Revolutionary 500 MPH Bugatti Plane That Almost Changed WW2
This is the Bugatti Model 100P: A 900 HP, 500 MPH, race plane imagined by none other than legendary automotive designer Ettore Bugatti, so technologically advanced that it could have single-handedly dominated the skies of WWII for Germany, had the Nazis ever gotten their hands on it. But after more than seven decades of obscurity in a French barn, the "Veyron of the Skies" is ready to finally take flight for the first time.
In 1938, Ettore Bugatti enlisted the help of his chief engineer, Louis de Monge, to do something the pair had never attempted before: build an airplane. And not just any airplane, a screamingly fast racer capable of beating his counterparts in Deutchland's most prestigious air race: the Coupe Deutsch. And they almost did too.
The Model 100P that Bugatti devised was the SR-71 of its day—an aircraft packed with technology ludicrously advanced beyond the existing state of the art. Measuring a stout 25 feet long with a 27-foot wingspan, the 100P Its fueselage and forward-swept wings were formed from multi-layer wood laminate—sandwiching balsa and hardwoods—a manufacturing technique still widely used today but practically unheard of in the 1940's.
The 100P was exceptionally streamlined thanks to its revolutionary inline engine design—wherein the 100P's pair of 4.9L, 450HP, 8-cylinder racecar engines were positioned behind the cockpit—that drove a pair of counter-rotating props. It also included a 102 degree V-tail, a zero-drag cooling system that ejected air from the trailing edges of the wings, and computer-directed flight controls that automatically changed the wing profile to produce extra lift or reduce drag and acting as an airbrake when pulling out of dives. Even the automatic landing gear took orders from the plane's computer system.
The airspeed record in 1939 stood at 469 mph, set by a German Messerschmitt. Had the 100P flown in 1940 at the Coupe Deutsch, the math suggests it would have topped 500 mph. However, the 100P never did fly in 1940, having just missed the entry deadline in September 1939 due to manufacturing delays.
While this was a disappointment to Bugatti, this delay may well have changed the outcome of World War II. During development, the French government learned of the project and approached Bugatti with an offer to use the technology for a new generation of highly-maneuverable, light-weight fighter planes. He turned them down but as the second World War broke out. When Germany invaded France in 1940, there became a very real chance that the Germans could learn of and seize the 100P, using the technology as their own war machine to decimate the Allied air fleet, Spitfires and all.
But Bugatti, who became a French citizen after WWI and who rarely hide his distaste for the Germans, wasn't having any of that mess. Rather than let the plane fall into Nazi hands, he decided to hide the nearly-completed aircraft in a barn somewhere in the French countryside. And that's where it stayed throughout the war.
After its rediscovery at the end of the War, the 100P was sold and auctioned numerous times before finally coming to rest in the EAA Airventure Museum, where it has been restored and is currently on display. However, this septuagenarian aircraft is far too old and delicate to fly anymore, which is why a dedicated team of classic plane enthusiasts have spent the better half of a decade building an exact, full-scale replica capable of flight.
"The vision, the courage, the entrepreneurial spirit, those things. That's where the focus is," Scotty Wilson, a former Air Force pilot and historical plane enthusiast from Tulsa, Oklahoma involved in the replica project, dubbed Le Reve Bleu, told KFOR. "It's an airplane at the end of the day. But it happens to be a very cool airplane with an interesting story."
"The Bugatti 100P was 85 percent complete when the Germans invaded," ex-RAF engineer John Lawson, who built the replica's gearbox, told Metro UK. "If it had flown in 1940 then it would have been a revolution. It was an incredible aeroplane and Louis de Monge, who worked on it with Ettore Bugatti, was a brilliant engineer."
"The plane was designed to fly very fast but the gearbox wouldn't have much longevity,"Lawson continued. "I reverse-engineered it from plans and pictures and designed one which runs perfectly." The Le Reve Bleu team hopes to have the replica finished by this fall and will be making appearances in the skies above the Farnborough Air Show and Goodwood Revival for years to come.

a collection of my favourite friendly-fire incidents, in no particular order
14–18 August, 1944: During the march to close the Falaise Pocket, the South Alberta regiment of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division sustained over 57 casualties from six different strafing attacks performed by RAF Spitfires. Despite the smoke columns from their destroyed vehicles, as well as the deployment of yellow signalling smoke -- the designated colour for friendly ground forces -- the strafing runs continued. One of the regimental officers in the 4th Divison flew off the fucking handle, and ordered his entire battery of self-propelled Crusader Anti-Aircraft tanks to fire on nearby RAF aircraft. [1]
2 January, 1966: An American Cessna O-1 Bird Dog flying over Bao Trai (now Hậu Nghĩa) was struck mid-air by indirect fire from an ANZAC howitzer battery, firing at a nearby NLF position. Like the fucking shells were falling, and this moron flew straight into the barrage and got hit. Mid-air. The tail of the plane separated from the airframe, and the pilot died on impact with the ground. [2]
10 May, 1940: A German Heinkel He-111 bomber took off from an airstrip to bomb the French city of Dijon during the Battle of France. However, due to some fucking insane calculation errors, they managed to fly back into Germany, and drop 69 bombs on the city of Freiburg instead, killing 57 German civilians. Of course the Nazis didn’t want to admit that their own city was bombed by the Luftwaffe, so Hitler blamed Churchill for “Coordinating terrorist attacks”. It’s also of note that the bombing occurred somewhere in the afternoon/evening, and visibility was good enough that the bomber crew identified landmarks on the ground -- they just mistook all of them for French ones. [3] [4]
June/July, 1801: During the Battle of Algeciras Bay, the two Spanish Santa-Ana class ships of the line, Real Carlos and San Hermenegildo, were sailing the Strait of Gibraltar. During foggy, nighttime conditions, the British HMS Superb sailed between the two Spanish ships. While attempting to pursue the Superb, both Spanish ships mistook each other for the Superb, and engaged with cannons. Both Spanish ships were sunk, and 1,700 sailors died. The Superb sailed away without a scratch. [5]
31 January, 1915: At the Battle of Bolimów, the German Ninth Army launched the first-ever gas attack of WWI on the Russian Second Army. However, upon the Ninth Army firing 18,000 bromine gas shells at Russian lines, it became clear that the Germans did not know how wind worked, and all of the gas blew backwards into German lines. There are no official casualty counts, but it’s suspected they were rather low due to the cold temperatures freezing the xylyl bromide in the gas. [6] [7]
14 April, 1942: In an RAF demonstration of “tactical airpower” in Wiltshire, went awry when a Hawker Hurricane fighter mistook the audience of the demonstration, for the target-dummies he was supposed to be hitting. The pilot strafed the observing crowd with his machineguns and killed 25; injured 71. Unfortunately, this was a rehearsal the day before Winston Churchill was supposed to be apart of that crowd. Fucking lmao. [8]
13 September, 1969: I don’t have a lot of details on this one, but apparently some British NCO stationed in Northern Ireland got shot in the face by one of his own men, while on the phone with his wife inside a British FOB. I can barely find anything more on this, but I will say that every account of FF I’ve found from the Troubles was dumbass Brits shooting each other unprompted, and I think that’s wonderful. [9]
1 January, 1945: Due to Allied airpower in France following the Battle of Normandy, and the dwindling fuel reserves of Nazi Germany, the Luftwaffe took a largely defensive posture during 1944/1945. However on New Years Day, 1945, the Luftwaffe made a final attempt at gaining air superiority in Operation Bodenplatte. Of course, they managed to completely fuck up this surprise attack, as they completely neglected to tell any German Anti-Aircraft crews about it. So at 08:30, German squadrons took off and were almost immediately shot down by their own anti-aircraft batteries. Roughly 300 aircraft were lost, and only a fraction of those were from scrambled Allied fighters. This is the largest single-day loss for the Luftwaffe in the entire war [10]
21-22 September, 1788: The whole Austro-Ottoman War was a shitshow, but the Battle of Karánsebes absolutely takes the cake; imagine a bar-fight with muskets. The Austrian army of about 100,000 men was making camp outside of Karánsebes, while a detachment of Hussars forded the Timiș River to scout for Ottoman soldiers. They didn’t run into any enemy during the patrol, but did run into a group of Romani merchants, who sold them schnapps. The Hussars start having a little party by the riverbank, which attracts the attention of a number of infantrymen from the main camp. The infantry began demanding to have some of the schnapps, which the hussars refused -- then it all goes fucking sideways. A shot rings out in the crowd; one of the hussars has been shot by an infantryman. The Hussars return fire, and then someone in the crowd yells “Turks!”. The crowd disperses, the majority heading back across the river, towards the camp, where the Corps Commander thought they were under attack by Turkish cavalry, and ordered all of his artillery to open fire on the hussars. Thinking they’re under attack in the middle of the night, the camp garrison starts firing at each other indiscriminately -- even better, since the Austrian army was comprised largely of mercenaries and multiethnic groups from the Balkans, none of them understood each other, so they couldn’t tell each other they were allies. Shit, even the guys speaking German were misunderstood; apparently when the Corps Commander called for everyone to halt, he was misheard as saying “allah”. Oh, and the archduke of Austria got thwacked off his horse and fell into the river, fuckin idiot. The entire army, thinking they were overrun with Turks, fled the town and went into a full-retreat. Two days later, the Ottomans found the massacre and just occupied the town with no resistance. Final estimates on the casualties were roughly 150 dead, 1,200 wounded and 563 missing. [11]

• British Bouncing Bomb
A bouncing bomb is a bomb designed to bounce to a target across water in a calculated manner to avoid obstacles such as torpedo nets, and to allow both the bomb's speed on arrival at the target and the timing of its detonation to be pre-determined, in a similar fashion to a regular naval depth charge.
Barnes Wallis' April 1942 paper "Spherical Bomb – Surface Torpedo" described a method of attack in which a weapon would be bounced across water until it struck its target, then sink to explode under water, much like a depth charge. Bouncing it across the surface would allow it to be aimed directly at its target, while avoiding underwater defences, as well as some above the surface, and such a weapon would take advantage of the "bubble pulse" effect typical of underwater explosions, greatly increasing its effectiveness: Wallis's paper identified suitable targets as hydro-electric dams "and floating vessels moored in calm waters such as the Norwegian fjords". Both types of target were already of great interest to the British military when Wallis wrote his paper (which itself was not his first on the subject); German hydro-electric dams had been identified as important bombing targets before the outbreak of World War II, but existing bombs and bombing methods had little effect on them, as torpedo nets protected them from attack by conventional torpedoes and a practical means of destroying them had yet to be devised. In 1942, the British were seeking a means of destroying the German battleship Tirpitz, which posed a threat to Allied shipping in the North Atlantic and had already survived a number of British attempts to destroy it. During this time, the Tirpitz was being kept safe from attack by being moored in Norwegian fjords, where it had the effect of a "fleet in being". Consequently, Wallis's proposed weapon attracted attention and underwent active testing and development.
On July 24th, 1942, a "spectacularly successful" demonstration of such a weapon's potential occurred when a redundant dam at Nant-y-Gro, near Rhayader, in Wales, was destroyed by a mine containing 279 pounds (127 kg) of explosive: this was detonated against the dam's side, under water, in a test undertaken by A.R. Collins, a scientific officer from the Road Research Laboratory, which was then based at Harmondsworth, Middlesex. A.R. Collins was among a large number of other people besides Barnes Wallis who made wide-ranging contributions to the development of a bouncing bomb and its method of delivery to a target, to the extent that, in a paper published in 1982, Collins himself made it evident that Wallis "did not play an all-important role in the development of this project and in particular, that very significant contributions were made by, for example, Sir William Glanville, Dr. G. Charlesworth, Dr. A.R. Collins and others of the Road Research Laboratory". However, the modification of a Vickers Wellington bomber, the design of which Wallis himself had contributed to, for work in early testing of his proposed weapon, has been cited as an example of how Wallis "would have been the first to acknowledge" the contributions of others. Also, in the words of Eric Allwright, who worked in the Drawing Office for Vickers Armstrongs at the time, "Wallis was trying to do his ordinary job [for Vickers Armstrongs] as well as all this – he was out at the Ministry and down to Fort Halstead and everywhere"; Wallis's pressing of his papers, ideas and ongoing developments on relevant authorities helped ensure that development continued; Wallis was principal designer of the models, prototypes and "live" versions of the weapon; and, perhaps most significantly, it was Wallis who explained the weapon in the final briefing for RAF crews before they set off on Operation Chastise, to use one of his designs in action.
A distinctive feature of the weapon, added in the course of development, was back-spin, which improved the height and stability of its flight and its ability to bounce, and helped the weapon to remain in contact with, or at least close proximity to, its target on arrival. Back-spin is a normal feature in the flight of golf balls, owing to the manner in which they are struck by the club, and it is perhaps for this reason that all forms of the weapon which were developed were known generically as "Golf mines", and some of the spherical prototypes featured dimples. It was decided in November 1942 to devise a larger version of Wallis's weapon for use against dams, and a smaller one for use against ships: these were code-named "Upkeep" and "Highball" respectively. Though each version derived from what was originally envisaged as a spherical bomb, early prototypes for both Upkeep and Highball consisted of a cylindrical bomb within a spherical casing. Development, testing and use of Upkeep and Highball were to be undertaken simultaneously, since it was important to retain the element of surprise: if one were to be used against a target independently, it was feared that German defences for similar targets would be strengthened, rendering the other useless. However, Upkeep was developed against a deadline, since its maximum effectiveness depended on target dams being as full as possible from seasonal rainfall, and the latest date for this was set at May 26th, 1943. In the event, as this date approached, Highball remained in development, whereas development of Upkeep had completed, and the decision was taken to deploy Upkeep independently.
Testing of Upkeep prototypes with inert filling was carried out at Chesil Beach, Dorset, flying from RAF Warmwell in December 1942, and at Reculver, Kent, flying from RAF Manston in April and May 1943, at first using a Vickers Wellington bomber. However, the dimensions and weight of the full-size Upkeep were such that it could only be carried by the largest British bomber available at the time, the Avro Lancaster, and even that had to undergo considerable modification in order to carry it. In testing, it was found that Upkeep's spherical casing would shatter on impact with water, but that the inner cylinder containing the bomb would continue across the surface of the water much as intended. As a result, Upkeep's spherical casing was eliminated from the design. Development and testing concluded on May 13th, 1943 with the dropping of a live, cylindrical Upkeep bomb 5 miles (8 km) out to sea from Broadstairs, Kent, by which time Wallis had specified that the bomb must be dropped at "precisely" 60 feet (18 m) above the water and 232 miles per hour (373 km/h) groundspeed, with back-spin at 500 rpm: the bomb "bounced seven times over some 800 yards, sank and detonated". In the operational version of Upkeep, known by its manufacturer as "Vickers Type 464", the explosive charge was Torpex, originally designed for use as a torpedo explosive, to provide a longer explosive pulse for greater effect against underwater targets; the principal means of detonation was by three hydrostatic pistols, as used in depth charges, set to fire at a depth of 30 feet (9 m); and its overall weight was 9,250 pounds (4,200 kg), of which 6,600 pounds (3,000 kg) was Torpex. Provision was also made for "self-destruct" detonation by a fuze, armed automatically as the bomb was dropped from the aircraft, and timed to fire after 90 seconds. Height was checked by a pair of intersecting spotlight beams, which, when converging on the surface of the water, indicated the correct height for the aircraft – a method devised for the raid by Benjamin Lockspeiser of MAP, and distance from the target by a simple, hand-held, triangular device: with one corner held up to the eye, projections on the other two corners would line up with pre-determined points on the target when it was at the correct distance for bomb release. In practice, this could prove awkward to handle, and some aircrews replaced it with their own arrangements, fixed within the aircraft itself, and involving chinagraph and string. On the night of May 17th 1943, Operation Chastise attacked dams in Germany's Ruhr Valley, using Upkeep. Two dams were breached, causing widespread flooding, damage, and loss of life. The significance of this attack upon the progress of the war is debated. British losses during the operation were heavy; eight of the 19 attacking aircraft failed to return, along with 53 of 113 RAF aircrew. Upkeep was not used again operationally. By the time the war ended, the remaining operational Upkeep bombs had started to deteriorate and were dumped into the North Sea without their detonation devices.
In April 1942, Wallis himself had described his proposed weapon as "essentially a weapon for the Fleet Air Arm". This naval aspect was later to be pressed by a minute issued by British prime minister Winston Churchill, in February 1943, asking "Have you given up all plans for doing anything to Tirpitz while she is in Trondheim? ... It is a terrible thing that this prize should be waiting and no one be able to think of a way of winning it." However, Highball was ultimately developed as an RAF weapon for use against various targets, including Tirpitz. From November 1942, development and testing for Highball continued alongside that of Upkeep, including the dropping of prototypes at both Chesil Beach and Reculver. While early prototypes dropped at Chesil Beach in December 1942 were forerunners for both versions of the bomb, those dropped at Chesil Beach in January and February 1943 and at Reculver in April 1943 included Highball prototypes. They were dropped by the modified Wellington bomber and at Reculver by a modified de Havilland Mosquito B Mk IV, one of two assigned to Vickers Armstrong for the purpose. By early February 1943, Wallis envisaged Highball as "comprising a 500 lb (230 kg) charge in a cylinder contained in a 35 in (89 cm) sphere with (an overall weight) of 950 lb (430 kg)", and a modified Mosquito could carry two such weapons. Further testing was carried out by three modified Mosquitoes flying from RAF Turnberry, north of Girvan, on the west coast of Scotland, against a target ship, the former French battleship Courbet, which had been moored for the purpose in Loch Striven. This series of tests was hampered by a number of errors: buoys intended to mark a point 1,200 yards (1,097 m) from Courbet, where the prototypes were to be dropped, were found to be too close to the ship by 400 yards (366 m), and, according to Wallis, other errors were due to "Variations in dimensions of [prototypes] after filling and [dimensionally incorrect] jigs for setting up the [caliper] arms". Because of these errors, the prototypes hit the target too fast and too hard, and two aircraft failed to release their prototypes, one of which then fell off while the aircraft was turning for a second attempt. By the end of May 1944, problems with releasing Highball had been resolved as had problems with aiming. Aiming Highball required a different method from Upkeep; the problem was solved by Wallis's design of a ring aperture sight fixed to a flying helmet. Highball was now a sphere with flattened poles and the explosive charge was Torpex, enclosed in a cylinder, as in Upkeep; detonation was by a single hydrostatic pistol, set to fire at a depth of 27 feet (8 m), and its weight was 1,280 pounds (581 kg), of which 600 pounds (272 kg) was Torpex. Highball was never used operationally: on 12 November 1944, in Operation Catechism, Lancasters with Tallboy bombs sank its primary target, Tirpitz. Other potential targets had been considered during Highball's development and later. These included the ships of the Italian navy, canals, dry docks, submarine pens, and railway tunnels (for which testing took place in 1943). But Italy surrendered in September 1943, and the other target ideas were dismissed as impracticable.
In January 1945, at the Vickers experimental facility at Foxwarren, near Cobham, Surrey, a Douglas A-26 Invader of the USAAF was adapted to carry two Highballs almost completely enclosed in the bomb bay, using parts from a Mosquito conversion. After brief flight testing in the UK, the kit was sent to Wright Field, Ohio, and installed in an A-26C Invader. Twenty-five inert Highballs, renamed "Speedee" bombs, were also sent for use in the USAAF trials. Drop tests were carried out over Choctawhatchee Bay near Eglin Field, Florida, but the programme was abandoned, after the bomb bounced back at A-26C-25-DT Invader 43-22644 on Water Range 60, causing loss of the rear fuselage and a fatal crash. Inert prototypes of both Upkeep and Highball that were dropped at Reculver have been recovered and these, along with a number of other examples, are displayed at various sites. In 2010, a diving project in Loch Striven successfully located several Highball prototypes, under around 114 feet (35 m) of water. In July 2017, two Highballs were successfully recovered from Loch Striven in a joint operation by teams from East Cheshire Sub-Aqua Club and the Royal Navy. One is now displayed at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum and the other arrived at Brooklands Museum in late 2019 after undergoing conservation at the Mary Rose Trust.

Is there any more you can share about Magritte's foray into musical studies? Maybe things she attempted but gave up on/moved away from? Even just her general aspirations and thought processes for her musical career during and after school? (Totally not looking for pieces to fit together) and the same for Raf- he was privately taught, but even those kids have a group /sometimes/, with a big-headed egotistical teacher who just happens to already have musical awards those parents want for their own musically inclined kids. The rivalry between kids like that is so so specific...
When she was like...8-13 years old, she had these grand daydreams of playing piano for an orchestra concert hall n stuff, all fancy. That died as soon as she had the capacity to research into the kind of time, money and resources required to even have a chance in the classical music scene. Simply not a possibility for her. And so, she focused on how to make do with what she did have, and got big into like...circuit bending her old toys and such. Even her little yamaha keyboard wasn't spared from her circuit bending adventures, and the little silver switched that line the side of it are all her handiwork haha.
Most of what Magritte learned was on the internet via livejournal and myspace communities, and she has probably a ton of online friends and acquaintances from there. I think that's probably how she met her first real girlfriend, a chick from Montreal who was a jazz pianist. It probably started as an online relationship and Montreal was the first place she went after she moved out of home. And then she met her gf's other band mates, and they were all just kind of...a poly pile for a solid year and a bit. And that's when Magritte learned the most, honestly. The jazz musicians were all attending music school there, and Margie got to absorb a lot of the knowledge second-hand.
Raf's upbringing was...pretty isolated He got to meet and know folks that his mother permitted. And so, yes, he had a peer group, but they intended as competition to stay ahead of just as much (if not more than) they were intended to be friends. It was this handful of peers that conspired to go to Juilliard. The lot of 'em just wanted to get off the continent and put an ocean between them and their caretakers--so that they could enjoy four years of full independence. Initially, they didn't care which school they applied to, as long as the all applied together. But Raf could not be included unless the school was either Curtis or Julliard, and so they attempted those, for Raf's sake. In the end, only Raf and one other lad got into Juilliard. Curtis accepted none of them lmao. Having another peer get accepted, though, provided the last little push his mom needed to let him study abroad. I like to think that there was an awkward, scampy lil' romance, there, that quickly crumbled apart at the tail end of the first year, when Rafs paranoia started taking up a lot more space in his head, and the stress of school just made him Generally Unpleasant.

Discussion: is Hosie more of a supportive relationship or a toxic one?
While we all agree that Hope and Josie can sometimes be shitty, disrespectful, and manipulative to each other, I think that they are mostly supportive to each other. There are some people that think the opposite and conclude that Hosie is toxic. While I don't have problem with people shipping toxic ships too, I genuinely think that Hosie is mostly healthy for each other. To get a hold whether Hosie is supportive or toxic, I make this list of all Hosie interactions/scenes up to 3x13, which can be categorised as supportive or shitty that I can remember along with some of my thoughts. If you don't agree with me or forgot something, feel free to remind me or discuss them!
Thank you for making me feel the need to make this list. @legacies-supremacy
Thank you for helping me with some of the points. @dreamerdiving
The definition of toxic relationship is: “any relationship [between people who] don’t support each other, where there’s conflict and one seeks to undermine the other, where there’s competition, where there’s disrespect and a lack of cohesiveness.”
I marked those interactions/scenes that is harmful to Hosie in red so we can see it easily.
1. Josie burn down Hope’s room, without apologising
2. Josie made up stories about Hope calling Lizzie witch bipolar
3. Hope and Josie do dark magic together (hope ask for help, kindred spirit in revenge)
4. Hope stand up to Lizzie for Josie, while Lizzie threw Josie under the bus
5. Hope protected Josie by not telling Emma Josie being the one using dark magic with Hope
6. The scene where they pick trash, they connected really fast. It’s shown that they can have good communications between them.
7. Josie pays her respects to Hayley in front of Hope. It means a lot to Hope because she values her family.
8. Hope encourage Josie to voice up, fight for the things she desires. Josie helps Hope on her poked-herself situation.
9. They fought the first monster ever IN THE SCHOOL together. (Hope calls Josie to help, and Josie immediately do so)
10. Fight the spider-like monster together along with Lizzie.
11. The necklace that Hope gave Josie, make quiet things heard.
12. Hope, MG, Penelope save Josie together. Hope is very anxious (maybe more anxious than Penelope seems?), the necklace worked.
13. AU where Hope doesn’t exist, Josie dies.
14. AU where both of them straight up flirting, Hope comes to bring the Saltzmans to the Mikaelsons Boarding School, giving the twins a place to use and improve their magic freely. And mostly like cleans up the mess of Lizzie’s outburst (no blaming here).
15. When Hope was on slug, Josie is the first to suspect that she’s on happy pill, which is very close to the fact. While Landon and RAF see that she’s very happy but don’t think much of it, because they were new to her (no blaming). Landon sees that she’s very happy, said something like, you’re happy for first time ever?
16. Hope tell Josie to let her know if Josie needs someone to “take care” of Penelope.
17. Talent show: hope looks very happy and cheers for Josie when she sings (overly happy maybe because of slug)
18. Josie lets Hope sleep on her shoulder.
19. Josie does not come clean when Hizzie is fighting each other on “Hope telling the school Lizzie is witch bipolar” and “burn her room down to interfere with Saltzmans road trip”.
20. Josie finally come clean about burning Hope’s room and made up stories that causes Hizzie's rivalry, but Hope only cares about the crush. It can be said that Hope is very forgiving for Josie. - *smiles* you had a crush on me? (I mean, girl, she burned down your room)
21. Mystic fall pageant: Josie worries about Hope feelings when Hope finds out about the dress was from Klaus
22. When Josie distances herself from Lizzie after knowing about the merge from Penelope, Lizzie asks Hope to help make the food Josie likes the most. So it’s canon that Hope can actually make Josie’s favourite food? The attempts Hope made to repair the twins relationship show that Hope care for both of the twins.
23. Josie doesn’t want to interact with Hope either.
(May have forgotten hosie scene)
24. Triad: super squad team up, they help each other to save the school, it seems like when Hope says she has more backup, Josie is the one looks like leading them in.
25. Hope caught a bullet for Josie while Josie caught one for Lizzie as Lizzie was trying to catch them for Josie too.
26. Josie encourages Hope for hero time rather than staying by her side.
27. Hope only realised that she caught a bullet for Josie when Alaric asked about the hole on her sleeves. That leads to her knowledge on her blood can save Josie as well as herself being the loophole for Malivore. She tells Alaric to give Josie vial of her blood. (According to some fans, Stefan said that blood sharing is very personal.)
28. Josie is very confident that Hope will make it back to them, and urges Kaleb to have faith in Hope.
29. When Hope jumps into Malivore, something came over Josie, she feels most of the impact (maybe because Landon is dead at the moment)
30. Hope didn’t want to return to school because she sees that both Landon and Josie are very happy. She wants them to be happy.
31. While Josie is being jealous and hostile to Hope, she feels that there’s something off about Hope in her, not only jealousy.
32. Oni episode: Josie continues to be hostile to Hope because of her jealousy.
33. Hope as a badass tribrid, miraculously does not beat or intimidate or threaten Josie because of her hostility, whereas when other people do it, there will probably be consequences.
34. Josie is the one to seek Freya for the dark magic to bring back everyone’s memories.
35. Josie hit Freya using the newly-learned dark magic. Freya said something like even that spell is very powerful for a Mikaelson witch, meaning that the spell can have some strong effects on her. When Josie is questioned whether she knows what to do with the magic, in panic she hit Freya with this magic and run. It means that whether or not Josie choose to bring those memories back herself, there will surely be someone to bring them back when Josie opted not to do it. Even so, it’s Josie that contributed to bringing back people’s memories of Hope, or else Freya can never do it for Hope if the circumstances required her to do so.
36. If Josie is to bring back everyone’s memories, she knows that she will be the one that will be left behind and will be the second choice. She’s the one that will be badly affected, but she knows that she needs to do it, and calls Caroline to encourage her to do the right thing. (Or else why call? What kind of parents will encourage their child to do otherwise.)
37. Josie brings back everyone’s memories of Hope and save Hope and Lizzie from the Croatian.
38. Hope cares about Josie’s feeling to ask whether Josie is okay with Hope staying in the school. She is willing to leave the school for Josie.
39. Despite knowing that seeing Hope hurts a lot, Josie tells Hope to stay, and assure Hope that she belongs with them. For Josie, NO MATTER how much it hurts, she WANTS Hope ENOUGH to let her STAY, as Hope belongs with them. It’s what Hope wants: people thinking she’s worth staying for. It means that NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, she hope that there’s still someone that WANTS HER ENOUGH to STAY for her.
40. Along with the previous point, it’s important to know that Josie tells Hope to stay after SimuLandon told Hope that Landon can’t tell her to stay (the same day as Landon chose to leave the girls). It assures Hope a lot.
41. Landon being a dick(sorry) to breakup with Josie and then immediately restarts a relationship with Hope (disrespect of Jandon relationship, it’s like an opposite of what he said to Josie). Hope being a bitch(sorry) by immediately accept the restart of Handon, disregarding it’s a fresh breakup for Jandon and Josie.
42. Josie avoids Hope because it hurts to see Handon immediately lovey dovey.
43. Santa episode: Hope is the one that handles Krampus-affected Josie when she tells Lizzie to run. Either the Josie being near to Lizzie will affect Lizzie, or Hope just want some time with Josie? For the former part, Hope protecting Lizzie also contributes to supporting Josie.
44. Hope actively seeks out Josie and helps Josie with the mora miserium - placing a protective barrier on it.
45. They confide in each other when they put a protective barrier on the mora miserium. They reveal their dark sides and weaknesses. They support each other verbally. (Hope reveal her jealousy towards Jandon, Josie asked Hope why Clarke chooses her, Hope said that it’s because Josie is a strong and trusting person, etc.)
46. In the Qareem/Wade-is-fairy episode, when Landon died, Hope protects the mora miserium first and passes it to Josie before going to Landon. (It’s a logical thing to do tho, Landon’s death can’t be undo but Hope can prevent Josie from going dark)
47. Hope go to the twins for comfort after her fight with Landon.
48. First therapy box episode: Hope comforts Josie after they come out from it.
49. People in numbers(the Saltzmans including Josie) vs Landon: Hope chose to save people in numbers which includes Josie, instead of saving Landon. (Prison world incident)
50. When Hope astral project into the prison world, Josie is the only one that can communicate with Hope because of the dark magic. It helped to save people and Josie herself in the prison world.
51. People in numbers (the whole school) vs Josie: Hope refuses to kill Josie when basically everyone is ready to kill Josie to save the school(including Alaric). (Lizzie is running away? Understandable tho, her life is in danger) Hope shuts Alaric and Kaleb in the therapy box to prevent them from killing Josie.
52. Dark Josie with Hope in the ring: they weren’t really putting effort in fighting each other before both of them call each other out.
53. I don’t think she even likes you - what’s the point of saying that when it is commonly known between Hope and Josie? So it must mean the opposite(which is Josie likes Hope) and solely to hurt Hope.
54. Josie, fight! - Hope can bring out the true Josie in dark Josie.
55. Dark Josie is agitated when Hope can really bring true Josie out. Maybe it’s because of losing control. But my clownness suggests that can also be a thing that both true and dark Josie do not want to reveal at all - that Hope weighs heavily in Josie’s heart.
56. Dark Josie is ready to kill Hope after Hope brought the true Josie out for seconds.
57. Hope goes into Josie’s subconscious to save her.
58. The actually-consensual kiss: when the pig tell Hope to try kissing Sleeping Josie, Hope respects Josie’s boundaries. But Hope never says that she is against kissing Josie at all because she now does not see her that way at all. = Hope will totally kiss Josie if the circumstances are right with a consent.
59. In Josie’s mind, true Josie really doesn't want to hurt Hope and urge her to leave before it’s too late.
60. Hope encourages Josie to trust herself with her power, that she is good and strong.
61. Dark Josie petrified Hope in Josie’s subconscious.
62. Josie did heed Hope’s words, she believes that Hope is good and strong.
63. Josie defends Hope by calling Landon out on him leaving Hope twice, and he doesn’t actually believe in not giving up love no matter what.
64. After Hope and Landon comes out from Malivore and the prison world, and Landon turns into goo after the unsafe intercourse (probably not using condom considering the result, there must be sexually fluid exchanged), Hope goes directly to the principal office and explains the situation, Josie is first to believe in Hope and is willing to teach her the spell.
65. When Hope’s Therapy-Box Ethan tells Hope that sometimes the right person for her is right in front of her. I think that it’s Hope’s subconscious of him promoting himself initially. But really, Hethan interactions are so little for me to really believe that Hope’s subconscious of the right person is referring him for that. So when Josie turns up next....(I’m clowning, but it means that Hope subconscious thinks that Josie is the right person, talk about faith.)
66. Hope believes that Josie wants Hope to be safe: Hope’s Therapy-Box Josie ants Hope to come with her? It means that Hope knows that Josie will want Hope to be safe with her together. To relate it more to the problem about Hope thinks that Josie runs away from problem and Hope solves them, it also means that a part of Hope wants to not face all these problems too. So part of her is constructing this scene to provide her an option, with Josie.
67. Josie is the only one Hope attempted to save in the therapy box.
68. Josie doesn’t help Hope grieves after Landon turned into goo. (to which I resent the writer’s effort in sabotaging Hosie in the show starting season 3 to make sure they sit right in the “not queerbaiting“ section. It doesn’t make sense that Hosie doesn’t interact at all.)
69. 3x08: Josie wants to help in finding Landon. No matter the motives, she wants to help, and the final results benefit Hope and Landon, not Josie.
70. I don’t need to deal with both Saltzman twins right now - Hope disrespects both twins.
71. Hope gaslights Josie to go help her postponing her date with Finch.
72. Josie believes in Hope too much to fall for her lies when Hope is apparently desperate. (Maybe that’s why Finch call Hope five feet of trouble, or we should believe that Finch is threaten by Hope or angry at Hope out of the blue?) - Hope is Josie’s blindspot too.
73. Josie is upset that Finch will hate her, but doesn’t seem angry about Hope lying( I’m thinking about “you have a crush on me?”, but it can also be understood as Hope lying doesn’t hurt her at all. If this is the case, then Hope = nothing in Josie’s heart, is this true though?)
74. Hope says that she would be there if Josie is to fall into her dark side again even though she believes that Josie is strong enough to withstand it herself. (It’s still manipulation even though Hope means it, right? Don’t want to romanticise manipulation.)
75. Hope guilt trip Josie about Landon and the prison world.
76. Hope thinks that she need more convincing work on Josie after the guilt trip. But Josie surprises her by not needing any further convincing. It seems that her concerns it’s never the danger she could face from the prison world for saving Landon. It’s about the risks of losing herself again by taking her magic back. Both of them don’t know that the ascendant is full of dark magic.
77. Hope tells Lizzie to hold on when they discover that the ascendant is filled with dark magic and according to Josie before that, “you’re going to die”.
78. Josie steps in for Hope and Lizzie.
79. Hope only realised and apologised when she sees Josie with dark magic and in pain. (It shows the importance of Josie in Hope’s heart, but I think it’s very late so……)
80. When Josie, Landon, Wade ran into the kitchen from Berbelang!Hope, Josie and perfect Landon are in sync in saving Hope. It either means Jandon is very very low-key still a thing, or Josie and perfect Landon actually cares as much as each other cares for Hope. (And perfect Landon is made to love Hope, so if Josie show as much care as perfect Landon for Hope....)
81. Again, why do I care? - Josie: “Because I do!”
82. Josie embrace her magic entirely for Hope and to save Hope.
83. If the definition of true love is like what Wade says, like Landon would never hurt Hope, then we can see Josie is reluctant to hurt Hope either. She wants to consider it carefully before really plunge the knife into Hope’s heart. (But perfect Landon did it, as an outsider I think we agree that’s actually the right call? It’s just too soon when you basically have an hour to think carefully, maybe Cleo can control perfect Landon, so when she got the chance she makes perfect Landon to do it?)
84. Hope apologises for pressuring Josie into taking back her magic twice. Josie give credits to Hope’s words of her and her magic. Hope is very happy for Josie.
85. Hope wants Josie back in the school. It means that she thinks Josie is belonged to the school as how Josie think of Hope previously.
To sum them up, we have 18/85 of Hosie interactions/scenes where they are disrespect of each other, undermining, manipulating, and lying to each other. However, as we can see mostly they are supportive of each other, having good communications, and saving each other’s lives.

ok so
this young fella is No. 85 Squadron’s Hurricane pilot Richard Lee. he was awarded the DFC and DSO for his service, just a couple months before he was shot down over the English Channel on 18/8/1940, at age 23, sadly never to be seen again.
details under the cut -
Richard Hugh Anthony Lee was born in London in 1917 (the exact date or month is unknown). Growing up, he went to Charterhouse School.
On September 1935 he joined RAF Cranwell as a Flight Cadet, and graduated in July 1937. He was posted to Debden on June 1, 1938 to join no.85 Squadron at its reformation. He flew Gloster Gladiator biplanes to begin with, before no.85 was re-equipped with Hawker Hurricane Mk1s.
No.85 sqn. Was posted in France to protect cross-channel convoys. On November 21, 1939, while on patrol over Boulogne, Flight Lieutenant ‘Dickie’ Lee scored the squadron’s first victory when he successfully attacked a Heinkel 111 which crashed into the channel and burst into flames. This also scored the Squadron’s first accolade as he was awarded a DFC on March 8, 1940 “for outstanding brilliance and efficiency”
Not much happened over the winter. That was to change, however, when on May 10, 1940, the sound of Anti Aircraft guns and Luftwaffe planes filled the air. No. 85 squadron immediately jumped into action, and within a few minutes, one section of “A” flight, and one section of “B” flight were up in the air. Lee was leading B flight with Flying Officer Derek Allen and Pilot Officer Patrick Woods-Scawen flying as his numbers 2 and 3 respectively. the section attacked a Henschel 126, and managed to severely damage the aircraft, leaving two of its crew wounded.
Later that morning, Lee was flying Hurricane L1779 into combat, leading his section again. They engaged a Junkers-88 at about 15,000 feet. His combat report reads: “after being sighted E/A dived to a very low height. i could only overhaul from astern very slowly. From 500 yards to 700 yards the enemy rear gunner fired continuously. I fired short bursts and finished ammunition closing to 200 yards. No apparent results except black smoke from one engine. My own aircraft shot badly.”
Later that evening Lee shared in the destruction of a Ju-86 with his section. Lee was the first to open fire and set the enemy’s starboard engine on fire. When they landed, ground crew found that he had fired 50 rounds from each of his eight Browning machine guns during the engagement.
on 11/5/1940, the squadron was back in the thick of it. however, this time after a busy morning patrol, Allen and Woods-Scawen returned without their section leader. Richard Lee was missing. He’d been flying Hurricane N2388, code marked ‘VY-R’ over Maastricht when he engaged a Dornier 17P at approximately 1300 hours. His aircraft had been hit by Anti Aircraft fire and he bailed out of his aircraft slightly wounded. Parachuting down, he landed in a field, where he spotted a local man passing by. He asked the man which direction he should travel to get to the Belgian tanks that were nearby. He took off in the direction, only to find out that they were, in fact, German. Lucky for him, his uniform was concealed underneath a smock or overcoat he had acquired. He was believed to be a peasant and was locked into a barn with some other refugees. Thinking quick, he climbed up to a window and noticed a ladder perched beneath it, and promptly climbed out, walked several miles, and hitched a ride with some Belgians before returning to his unit the very next day. The squadron’s diarist reported that “11/5/40. Eight E/A were shot down today. Flight Lieutenant R.H.A Lee failed to return from the offensive patrol covering the advance of the BEF over the Tongres-Maastricht Section – he was reported last seen on a Dornier’s tail at about 2,000 ft.”
On May 22, No. 85 squadron started to return to Debden to re-equip and reform, and Lee was transferred to No. 56 Squadron. The next day the squadron engaged enemy aircraft over St. Omer while patrolling Manston to Dunkirk. he expended all his ammunition in the dogfight that ensued between the Hurricanes and the 109s, before his starboard wing was badly hit. He broke off and returned to Manston unharmed, and aircraft deemed repairable.
On May 27, he flew another offensive patrol from Manston with the Squadron, flying Hurricane P3311. On this occasion he was shot down by Messerschmitt 109s during an attack on Henschel 111s. he ditched his aircraft in the sea and was fished out of the water and taken ashore an hour later.
On May 31, Lee was awarded the DSO. The London Gazette published the following: “Flight Lieutenant Richard Hugh Anthony Lee, D.F.C. (33208) this officer has displayed great ability as a leader and intense desire to engage the enemy. On one occasion he continued to attack an enemy aircraft after his companion had been shot down, and his own machine hit in many places. His section shot down a Dornier 215 in flames one evening in May, and another in the course of engagement the next day. In his last engagement, he was seen at 200 feet at the tail of a Junkers 89, being subjected to intense fire from the enemy occupied territory. This officer escaped from behind the German lines after being arrested and upheld the highest traditions of the Service.”
In June, he returned to No. 85 squadron, under Squadron Leader Peter Townsend. His experience was called upon to help bring the new recruits upto scratch before the squadron was again ready for operational flying.
On June 26, Richard Lee and his close friend Gerald Lewis flew to an investiture where Lee received his DSO and DFC for his service.
Lee’s reputation as a daring and aggressive fighter pilot was quickly spreading around the air force. Peter Townsend’s good friend Flight Lieutenant John Simpson wrote a letter to his intelligence officer, after hearing about the exploits of Richard Lee.
Simpson, who also coincidentally often flew with Patrick Woods-Scawen’s younger brother Tony, wrote “I hear that Dickie Lee has done wonders. You see how these boys, who were always looked upon as being the naughty ones, are doing so well. They needed a war to convince the old gentlemen at Whitehall. Do you remember that Dickie was almost given his bowler hat for low flying? The same low flying has apparently stood him in good stead.” (apparently he had flown through an open barn, but i have no way of confirming or denying that)
In Hector Bolitho’s book Combat Report published in 1943, he wrote of an afternoon spent with Lee, Townsend and Simpson. “Peter Townsend and Dickie Lee had been posted to an aerodrome a few miles from the house… in the early summer, John and I went out to find them… we found Peter and Dickie and took them back to the house. Dickie followed the car on a hellish motor bicycle.
It was a pleasant enough afternoon and we lay on the lawn, the four of us, with a bowl of ice, a bottle of gin, some tonic water and four glasses, and talked the world away. All three, looked older. Both Dickie and Peter had been shot down and a certain solemnity seemed to have touched them. Dickie had changed more than others.
We used to call him Dopey in the old days because he always fell asleep if the conversation took a serious turn. He was already a hero and in most newspapers there had been photographs of him receiving his decorations from the King. The long hell in France had left creases at the corners of his sleepy eyes. But he would have none of our attempts at war talk. He said that he had a date with a blonde in Saffron Walden and that he could not stay very long.
Dickie’s taste in blondes was not always reassuring to his friends, but he was obviously more concerned with his date than with our efforts to make him talk about how he has won the DFC and DSO on his tunic. I remember when he stood to go I noticed a hole in the leg of his trousers where a bullet had gone through without touching his skin.
I suppose that Peter and John and I were a bit pensive, being the older ones, so Dickie yawned and said ‘Well, I must get cracking’ he made one gesture to sentiment before he went. On the day that was declared he left his favourite pictures with me… before his squadron flew off to France.
They were photographs of friends, of aircraft, and one of a spaniel. He asked me for them, so I brought them down from the attic and he flew off to his blonde with them, piled before him on the screeching, violent motor bicycle.”
August 18, 1940 “the Hardest Day” of course, was when Dickie was lost. Flying as Blue 1 in Hurricane P2923 ‘VY-R’ during this patrol, he was last seen by Squadron Leader Townsend and Flying Officer Arthur Gowers ten miles north-east of Foulness Point chasing Bf 109s out across the Channel.
In Townsend’s book Duel of Eagles he wrote the following of Lee’s last action: “Come back, Dicky,’ I called but he was drawing away. Again and again I called, but he kept on. It was useless to chase Huns out to sea; they would be back again the next day. Something had gotten into Dicky and there was no stopping him. We were both low on fuel and I was out of ammunition. There was only one thing to do: turn back”
Like several others, he was gone too soon. Neither his aircraft nor his body were ever recovered. and aside from these mentions, and a few documents, and acknowledgement on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 6, there isn’t much about him out there. there’s really not much one can do about that either, other than remember, and keep them alive in our thoughts; those who never returned, whose names faded into obscurity.
