#7x06: Due Process

I’ve never really been here during hiatus. Is this normal behaviour 😅😅

I've been around since the beginning of season four and tbh? No, it's not. Season four and season five hiatuses were chaotic, but it was a GOOD kind of chaotic. Expectations were higher than ever despite EddieAna and BuckTaylor still happening on screen. It wasn't a question of if Buddie would get together. Just when. We could all brush off negativity pretty easily because we trusted that the "obstacles" (the relationships) wouldn't last. We just had to be patient. The end of season six is when things started to shift in a more pessimistic direction due to Marisol and Natalia being shoehorned in as the next (seemingly legit) love interests in the closing minutes. But instead of writing post after post expressing anger and disappointment, the majority said their piece within those first few days after the episode and either moved onto their other fandoms or took a break from tumblr entirely because they just did not want to think about it. This? What we're seeing now? A whole new ballgame. And it's because Buck is officially bi. Had Buck remained in a relationship with Natalia or found another new woman and Eddie's story line with Marisol still played out the same way, the reaction would be disappointment, of course, but we'd be reading multiple posts about how "Buddie was never promised to us" or the more optimistic side would say "it's all part of the plan! trust the process!" But Buck was confirmed bi. Rather early on in the season, at that. So the assumption was that Bi Buck was revealed with enough time in the schedule to have him accept/acknowledge his feelings for Eddie or help Eddie have a "feelings realization" of his own. But here we are, season seven finally in the books, and not only is Buck still very much involved with Tommy (who people NEEDED to be gone after 7x06), Eddie did in fact cheat on Marisol - with a woman, not Buck 🤡 - and Ryan is not hesitating to let us know that he's been playing Eddie as hetero not just in seasons prior, but in the very one where half of the fandom's most popular ship actually came out. This hiatus was destined to be a disaster the moment Buck and Tommy kissed, and each one afterwards is going to get progressively worse for as long as Buddie doesn't happen in canon unless people learn to let go of something that isn't bringing them anymore joy.

my Arrow 7x06 thoughts

That was... a heck of an episode. I spent 3/4 of it upsettingly confused and the last 1/4 of it utterly enthralled. That sort of encapsulates Arrow as a whole, doesn’t it? Like, your average Arrow season these days is 3/4 “what the hell is this all about” and 1/4 “ohhhh my god i get it now, that was AWESOME.” And while I love the awesome, I sorta wish there was more consistency and less relying on the ending to save the whole pie, ya know? 

Anyhow, here we go: 

Poor Anatoly. He was rotten last season but he doesn’t deserve this.

Listen… jerkoff dragon boy. Oliver is in Slabside. He’s already destroyed.

I had a moment where I was all “listen, Oliver, stop being a jerk and just let her help get you out of prison” and then I realized how ridiculous it was cuz Siren deserves his scorn.

I have priorities, people. I feel I’m pretty clear about them. Him back with Felicity first, the rest can be dealt with later. 

Okay Siren comparing him to the E2 Oliver is just stupid. it’s not his fault Diaz got away, you dime store villain and you know it.

Also: Rene still gets points for helping Felicity. Where’s DIGGLE THO?!

So it was a trap.

Dig you cannot be upset about Felicity working with Siren given EVERYTHING. Are you kidding me right now?!

And there’s fucknut Curtis worried about his birthday. SMEH. There’s a regrettable villain on the loose and Felicity’s husband is in prison getting lobotomized but LOL YOUR BIRTHDAY IS SUPES IMPORTANT. Asshat. 

Felicity begging Siren is tugging my heartstrings. I FEEL SO BAD FOR MY BABY. FREE HER HUSBAND.

So William knows Zoe pretty well. Easier to move on than hold on. HMM. WHere is Oliver. IS HE DEAD TOO?! LOL

“He’s Oliver’s son.” “That is exactly what worries me.” WHAT HAPPENED. That is literally my first reaction. WHAT HAPPENED A FEW YEARS AGO?!?

Stan is laying this sob story on pretty thick. 😑

Diaz wants to destroy the city. YAWN. THat’s so five seasons ago.

Felicity threatening Anatoly is delightful. But also I’m getting worried for my bae. She’s unraveling. She needs Oliver. 

Felicity… find your sunshine. Too much dark…. is not good. I’m not saying she CAN���T play with the darkness but also that... I don’t want her to do something she’ll regret later. We’ve seen what guilt has done to Oliver.

But yes, “Oliver Queen deserves to be a free man” I agree with that. I will always agree with that. My priorities are clear here.

Also can I just say I LOVE THEM SHARING A SCENE? The me from s2 is THRILLED. Remember when I just wanted Anatoly and Felicity to acknowledge each other??

Uhm this is bad advice Anatoly. Don’t encourage her to kill Diaz. But also... is anyone getting any “flash forward” vibes off this? What did Felicity do in the future? Did she go ruthless?

So okay. Wow. Those flashforwards were actually not too bad this time. I feel like we got some good information out of them. Some good clues. And GUYS, the FERN was in her little lair and she used Oliver’s favorite training method as a security protocol and there’s just OLICITY stamped all over this. I love my ship. Their impact. Wow. 

Also, how amazing is it that Felicity is such a FOCUS right now? In the present AND in the future? It’s just... incredible. We are truly watching Felicity and Friends right now and I could not be happier. That said the “friends” are kinda... that’s pushing it. About 70% of these people could be doing a LOT MORE. Especially Diggle. I want my old Dig back. Why is he acting like this?? GAH. Anyhow. So good. Next week: prison hijinks. For the last time, hopefully.

Arrow 7x06 “Due Process” is about teamwork.

For the last six episodes, (all of season 6 really) Team Arrow has been divided. Each member has been trying to catch Diaz without working with the rest of the team. Team Arrow is doing the bell exercise from season 5 --remember season 5?--and Diaz is suckerpunching them all. 

Diaz is the obstacle and capturing him is the bell. 

First it was NTA vs OTA.  Diaz rose to power when they were divided. They each had their own agendas and couldn’t stop squabbling long enough to get anything done. 

Then Diggle left. With Diggle’s departure Oliver decided he should go it alone, but that never does anything productive. By the end of season 6, they were all working together--almost. Due to the wild card that is Black Siren, Diaz got away. They were so close to capturing him because all six members of Team Arrow worked together. 

In Season 7, we have no one finding Diaz. ARGUS has made some headway but their ultimate goal is not finding Diaz, it’s dealing with ‘bigger’ problems. the FBI has put it on the back burner. 

Felicity then gets attacked and she then makes it her personal mission to take down Diaz. She is sick and tired of waiting for other people to do it. So she turns to John. She works with ARGUS, and Diaz slips through their fingers. 

Felicity turns to the FBI. Working with SCPD and the FBI, they almost catch him. Once again Diaz slips through their fingers. 

Felicity then works with Rene and Black Siren. And they catch the Silencer and start tracking her. 

It isn’t until this episode when Dig, Curtis, Rene, Dinah, Black Siren, Anatoly, and Felicity all come together and have one goal that Diaz gets caught. 

Happenstance puts them together. They all raid the warehouse individually, meeting up with the others. They are all trying to ring the bell, catch Diaz, by themselves. That’s when they realize all this secret keeping is making their goal harder. They spill all their secrets, including Curtis’ birthday party so that there is nothing in between the members of Team Arrow.  

After that it’s easy to catch Diaz.

They each play their part: Felicity and Curtis with the bombs. Both of them are needed because there are two bombs. Rene is sent to find the remote detonation device. Meanwhile, Diggle and Dinah battle Diaz and the Longbow Hunters. Each member of the team has their role to play. 

However, Team Arrow is missing one important member. 

When all seems lost and Diaz is about to blow the city to smithereens, and no-one can do anything to stop him, the last member of Team Arrow shows up. 

The Green Arrow. 

True, it’s not Oliver Queen. It isn’t the man they all know and love. However, it is Oliver Queen’s legacy, the copycat GA, and there can’t be a Team Arrow without the Green Arrow. And the archer plays their part-- showing up at the serendipitous moment-- right on time. 

Diaz was caught because everyone on the team worked together and played in harmony. Every member this time had the same goal: catch Diaz. 

So they did.

1:00 - … Am I supposed to feel bad about Anatoly being tortured? I kind of wrote him off after he was a dick to Oliver and sided with Diaz.

4:08 - You could tell that Oliver desperately wanted that visitor to be Felicity so he could see her again! But then his expression just drops when he sees Not-Laurel.

5:10 - “You are the reason that Diaz got away in the first place, do you remember?” - Oliver to Not-Laurel

THANK YOU! All of this prison time could have been avoided if you didn’t interfere last season.

Also, hearing Oliver and Felicity call each other wife and husband will NEVER get old. EVER.

5:55 - “I can’t believe she’s dead.” - William

WE CAN’T EITHER. Because she’s not. 

6:30 - Felicity becoming the Calculator? Seriously? 

8:10 - Well, the writers have clearly figured out that putting Not-Laurel in scenes with Felicity is the most effective way to try to get us as the audience to tolerate her again for her whole “redemption” arc thing. I get what they're trying to do. 

It isn’t quite working. Not yet. 

At least for me. Not-Laurel is gonna have to do a lot more to be even close to redemption after the shit she pulled last season. 

8:50 - You know who the “put-the-character-in-a-scene-with-Felicity-and-they’ll-be-tolerable” (officially dubbed “The Felicity Effect” by myself) plan doesn’t work with? RENE. Still can’t stand him. Still think he’s pointless.

11:40 - Well, John, considering you and Dinah and Curtis all neglected to help Felicity in trying to take Diaz down, she had to resort to other methods. You pretty much said so yourself that Diaz wasn't your priority. But it was Felicity’s. Did you really expect her to just give up while Diaz was still out there trying to kill her and her son? You know her better than that.

12:40 - With all this going on, Curtis really found time to bitch about his birthday? Boy needs to sort out his priorities.

14:30 - I forget, did Dinah and Roy ever meet in present time?

14:36 - The mark of... what?

16:30 - I can’t tell if Anatoly is being honest or if he’s following Diaz’s plan...

18:00 - Felicity taking charge and threatening Anatoly is the BEST.

23:20 - “You pushed me out.” - John

REALLY?!

Because I seem to recall Felicity begging you for help earlier and you turned her down because you had ARGUS to think about. Since you wouldn’t help her, she had to find another way. 

“Don’t lecture me just because you haven’t been around.”

24:30 - I still don’t know who this Stanley guy is and why he is so obsessed with the Green Arrow. And is no one wondering why he’s in Slabside in the first place?

I don’t trust him.

27:20 - “Oliver Queen made a deal with the FBI to protect this city, but the FBI failed to hold up their end of the bargain.” - Not-Laurel

That is the first thing she has said that I agree with.

32:00 - They’re even using “The Felicity Effect” on Anatoly.

35:10 - FELICITY HAD A LOVE FERN IN HER HIDEOUT. I REPEAT, FELICITY HAD A LOVE FERN IN HER HIDEOUT.

35:58 - Felicity’s security protocols included her hubbies old training regiment.

And Roy using what his mentor taught him!

But why would Felicity have a plan to level all of Star City?

43:20 - FINALLY!!!!! Kicked Diaz’s ass!!

45:49 - Curtis, kindly fuck off, please. you are in no position to be saying “I told you so” to anybody.

48:10 - “There was a time when all of us loved her. Isn’t finding out what really happened worth the risk?” - William being an awesome son.

51:12 - “Oliver’s coming home?” - Felicity asking about her hubby

52:30 - I knew there was something shady about Stanley!

Well, that episode was a great setup to the next episode with what I can assume will be the confrontation between Oliver and Diaz.
