Yea don't get me wrong, I will still support Pakistani cinema and encourage everyone to watch 7dmi but I'm really disappointment. My love for Sheheryar will also push me to give this movie a chance. I'm tired of Mahira. And Mira Sethi may be smart but homegirl has yet to delivery any note worthy performance in any of her dramas. For someone with a literary background, I don't understand why she hasn't tackled script writing.

I mean that’s fine. It’s your time, money and energy that you’re investing in a movie. I’m done with people saying watch a movie to support Pakistani cinema, so as an audience we should give money to any movie that comes out, even if its a Chain Aye Na? No. 

If not Mira’s performance, I think most of her dramas were well received by the audience. Her dramas are different than what’s usually on TV and that’s what I meant about her being smart and choosing projects carefully. It must mean there is something different about 7DMI (the movie hasn’t come out, it could be shit for all we know). 

And just because someone has a literary background doesn’t mean they are interested in script writing (they’re different mediums in a way). Like, I love reading and writing but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna go ahead and start developing scripts.

Mahira Khan is overrated, period. Obv with the success of Humsafar and her next shows it helped but since Raees she’s almost become the brand ambassador for Pakistani cinema. She’s beautiful and is well spoken, a good enough representative for the industry but she’s definitely not the best. And yes 7DMI’s trailer was just ugh. Honestly the two leads look so familiar almost sibling like.

Mahira is definitely one of the most well spoken celebrity, no arguments about that. She is a good enough representative of the country, again I don’t mind. But what irks me to no end is how there’s a super obvious bias towards her from all the corners of the media industry. This sentiment around her that she can do no wrong is what gets to me. And if you dare have an opinion that says otherwise, you are obviously a hater. Rules are always different for her and something else for literally everyone else. It’s just hard to cheer for any of her achievements when it’s so clear that she didn’t get to those places because of her talent. Because her main profession is acting and she hasn’t done anything extremely path breaking in that only. Toh itna bhaov kyun khilate hain log usse?

Sheheryar isn’t a great actor but he has some solid screen presence. He is one of the actors from the young generation whom I have adored since the beginning and want to watch more of. But he keeps doing project after project with Mahira, someone with whom he has a great off screen rapport with despite having zero to shit chemistry onscreen, and it just SUCKS for me! Ek toh the list of people whose work I want to follow is already very little uss mein bhi wo log pata nahin kya kya chawalein marte rehte hain :@

Who do you think are the current top 3-4 actors and actresses in Pakistan who can pull numbers on tv/theatres?

Humayun Saeed. Hands down the undisputed king of BO. He doesn’t do many dramas but his last outing on TV was also a hit and I am pretty sure he’s gonna repeat the success with this next.

Hamza Ali Abbasi. PHJ was a huge hit. So was Mann Mayal. And already he has managed to get grab eyeballs in the MJ teaser. Plus there’s Alif which is his passion project so safe to say it’s gonna be the talk of town once it goes on-air.

Fahad Mustafa. His movies do good business and even though unfortunately he doesn’t act on TV anymore, his game show and the dramas he produce are the raking in solid ratings.

I read somewhere that movie distributors do count Mahirah as a bankable star but I am on the fence about it. 7DMI hadn’t done any stellar business and it was a Eid release so that has to be credited for whatever opening the movie got.

7 Din Mohabbat In Review: A rib-tickling desi fairytale

KARACHI: Now, it’s no breaking news that this Eidul Fitr is a big one for the local box office. With 7 Din Mohabbat In (7DMI), Wajood, Azaadiand Na Band Na Baraati all slated to release this weekend, it goes without saying that competition is rife and cinemagoers will have to pick and choose what they watch carefully.

PHOTO: INSTAGRAM/7DMI Perhaps the biggest release of the lot, thanks to Mahira Khan’s star power, is 7DMI. And who can forget the oh-so-charming Sheheryar Munawar, who plays the male lead opposite her? The chemistry between the Ho Mann Jahaan duo in this romantic-comedy is definitely worth a mention. Together, the two actors have brought the bubbly Neeli and naïve Tipu and their quest for love to life.

PHOTO: PUBLICITY 7DMI shows Mahira, in particular, in a completely different avatar from her previous and relatively more serious roles in Verna and Bol. Playful Neeli – who wears her hair in funky clips and often recites romantic poetry with stars in her eyes – is a character that was written for Mahira and Mahira alone. As for Sheheryar’s Tipu…his transformation through the film is commendable. But one thing that stands out in 7DMI is its stellar supporting cast. Mira Sethi, Amna Ilyas, Danish Maqsood and Hina Dilpazeer are all in top form, adding many more layers to the plot. The antagonists Javed Sheikh and Aamir Qureshi don’t fall short either. Amna and Hina truly steal the show. The former essays an activist fighting for women’s rights while Hina builds up from her role as Momo in Bulbulay. The actor plays Tipu’s mother, whose cries send shivers down his nervous spine. Aamir displays a strong grip on the craft as well, holding up his father, Mustapha Qureshi’s legacy successfully. Beo Raana Zafar who plays Princess Sonu’s (Mira) grandmother in the film didn’t get enough screen time, however, her performance was also amongst the best in the film – the character seemed to flow naturally for her.

PHOTO: PUBLICITY All in all, 7DMI boasts of power-packed performances which will keep you entertained, even if you don’t quite take to the script. The punchlines given to each of the characters are direct and hilarious barring a few moments where the dialogue delivery feels a bit forced. But Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi have done a great job with the direction overall, making the film a beautiful visual experience. Kudos to the duo for the splendid camerawork! The sets, especially the den of Dwakar Prasad (Javed) are brilliant and of course, VFX has a big hand to play in that.

PHOTO: PUBLICITY The storyline does have a few misses here and there but they’re covered up smartly by the help of music. While the song Ishq Lara has been used in the opening credits, others such as Yunhi Rastay Mein and Kaahe Ko Biyahi Bides are perfectly timed in the narrative. Another notable feature of 7DMI is that each character has a signature look which proves that stylists, make-up artists and costume designers have become key aspects of Pakistani film-making.

PHOTO: PUBLICITY Admittedly, the trailer of 7DMI did raise a few eyebrows and left many wondering why Mahira of all stars had signed on to such a film. Rest assured, the final cut dismisses all such apprehensions. 7DMI is a surprisingly entertaining, family film that you should definitely watch after Eid, if not right now. Read the full article

This is more for the banter, but have you seen the trailer for Azaadi and watched the music video of the new song? Lol, how’s the Male lead the Male lead?? He could pass off as the older brother for the girl and that’s me still being nice. Why did Sonya do this film? The song looks so out of place with the feel of the movie. And even 7DMI doesn’t look like it’ll live up to the expectation. Tbh the eid release worth the watch looks like PHJ by a mile

You know WHEN I saw the trailer for Azaadi? WHEN I WENT TO WATCH INFINITY WAR!! You can’t imagine the level of EMBARRASSMENT I had felt through out the 2 minute long trailer. I just turned to my best friend sitting next to me and we just..hid our faces in shame.

I don’t have anything against patriotic movies of such grand scale. But c’mon..keep it a little digestable? Moammar Rana has been part of Pakistani movies since forever. There’s nothing wrong in him wanting to have his own movie in this new “post-revival” phase of Pakistani cinema. But bruh...matlab..c’mon. It just looks like a cringefest..that’s all. And that beach pe shot song and dance sequence...urrghh..why?!

7DMI was another level of cringe for me. Not in the same vein as Azaadi but nevertheless, cringe. Sherry and Mahira had zero chemistry throughout. I know the media loves to parade Mahira as the best thing since sliced bread but the woman should stick to roles that don’t make put a massive spotlight on her glaringly obvious weaknesses as an actor. The obvious objectification of women aside..the movie also has a bhoot angle which just...nope.

I am looking forward to Parwaz Hai Junoon’s trailer. If the two teasers are any indication, PHJ is looking to be not only the clear winner this Eid but might possibly give takkar to the other big movies of the year - JPNA2 and Load Wedding.
