7TP and it's variants
7TP, what it is, everybody knows. But not everybody knows how many different variants were produced.
1. Pre-production prototypes
Tumblr media
First 7TP prototype, no. 1595, nicknamed "Smok" ("Dragon"), during trials. [Source]
First prototype of 7TP, then called VAU-33 (for Vickers-Armstrong-Ursus [Vickers-Armstrong being manufacturer of Vickers Mk.E on which the tanks was based, Ursus for polish company responsible for the project] or Vickers-Armstrong-Ulepszony [Improved], 33 for the year). It featured experimental welded bogies (dropped in later models), twin turrets of 6-tonner type A (without armament), enlarged engine compartment (on the picture marked with lighter color) and non-standard toolboxes and spare roadwheel placement.
Tumblr media
First single-turret 7TP prototype, no. 1595, with modified engine compartment and original Bofors turret, probably January 1937. [Source]
First single-turret prototype of 7TP, featuring turret designed by Bofors, based on Landsverk L-10 and L-30 tanks. The chassis of the twin-turret prototype was used (note welded bogies). The turret was equipped with wz.37 tank gun (tank variant of Bofors 37mm anti-tank gun) and 7.92mm wz.30 water-cooled machine gun (improved version of Colt-Browning M1917A1, rechambered for 7.92mm Mauser round). Recoil system of the main gun lacks armored cover found on production models. Rear hatch was later replaced with radio or ammunition niche, with hatches moved to the roof of the turret. Note modifications made to the rear of the engine compartment, like muffler moved to the top.
2. Production variants
Tumblr media
Twin-turret 7TP, May 1937. [Source]
Serially produced twin-turret 7TP were armed with 2 7.92mm wz.30 water-cooled machine guns, one in each turret. Turrets came from Polish Vickers Mk.Es. Note the muffler mounted on the bottom of the rear plate, characteristic for earlier models of the tank.

Late single-turret 7TP, no 5091, at Kubinka proving ground, 1940 [Source: Tank Power 317, "7TP Vol. II", p. 82]
Serially produced single-turret 7TP used improved Bofors turret. Niche at the rear was intended for radio (installed only in command vehicles). Otherwise it was often used to store ammunition for 37mm gun. Main difference between early and late variants of 7TP is placement of the muffler and construction of the engine compartment doors.
3. Radio
Several radio variants were made, for both single- and twin-turret designs. Tanks were fitted with either RKBc or (later) N2/C radios with standard or telescopic antennas, with minimal changes to the hull and turret. Państwowe Zakłady Tele-Radiotechniczne (National Tele-Radio Engineering Works) proposed a rail antenna project mounted on 7TP, but it was not produced.
4. Engineering and other special equipment
There were several prototypes of special equipment to be mounted on 7TP tank, including a deployable bridge, a battering ram and a plough. None were made in large numbers.
5. Planned variants
A project for a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun was started in 1937. It was to be armed with two 20mm wz.38 model A autocannons. Project was abandoned in 1938, as engineers were moved to TKS rearmament project. No drawings suvived, if any were even made.
Two projects of 7TP wz. 1939 (also known as 7TP wzmocniony [Reinforced] or 9TP [This name appears only in post-war literature]) were proposed by Biuro Badań Technicznych Broni Pancernych (BBT BP, Bureau of Technical Research of Armored Weapons) and Biuro Studiów PZInż (BS PZInż, Research Bureau of National Engineering Works). Those were a serious modernisation of 7TP, featuring (among others) welded armor plates (previously armor was bolted to the frame), slightly different shape of the hull, new engine and thicker armor. The latter was chosen for testing, being simpler in production. It's commonly believed that 2 prototypes were ordered (one with standard transmission and one with transmission from C7P) and tested in 1939. Little documentation and no pictures survived.
6. Artillery tractors
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First prototype C6P after reconstruction, nicknamed Felek, no. 8993, designated C7P/I. [Source] Second prototype C6T. [Source]
C6P and C6T were the first two prototypes of C7P artillery tractor. C6P had engine placed in the rear with driving sprocket on the front (like in 7TP), while C6T had engine placed on the front with rear-mounted sprocket and Sauer truck cabin. The latter was later rebuild to C6P/II and later C7P/II standard, while the former was reconstructed into C7P/I and later become standard model for the series.

C7P was polish artillery tractor based on 7TP. It was used for towing artillery, as a recovery vehicle and for engineering units. Some of them were equipped with various equipment, including a plough,a bridge or a dozer blade.
7. German modifications

Germans used several 7TPs captured during September Campaign, but the exact number is unknown. Some tanks (both single- and twin-turret) were rearmed with german air-cooled machine guns, equipped with german radios and headlights.

Raupenshlepper 7TP [Source unknown] Raupenshlepper 7TP Kranaufbau in Tomaszów Mazowiecki [Source]
Raupenschlepper 7TP (also known as Schlepper auf 7TP) was a tractor conversion, made by the Germans during and after 1941. They were made (based on the limited pictures I found) exclusively from late single-turret tanks. They were used as a recovery vehicle and for towing the aircraft. Exact number build is unknown, with 16 reported as avaible for conversion in April 1941 and 3 received in November same year.

Destroyed 7TP light tank in Poland. Seems like it was captured by the Germans before being put to use against its former owners, judging by the white cross on the superstructure. Sept 1939
