"UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls.
Violence against women and girls remains the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violation in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts and climate change have exacerbated the risks for this violence and generated new threats, amplifying the vulnerability of women and girls. The solution lies in robust responses, including investment in prevention.
Under the global umbrella theme of the 2023 UNiTE Campaign: "UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls", the event will shine a spotlight on the importance of financing prevention strategies to stop violence from occurring in the first place, galvanize action to secure increased investments and kickstart the activities of the 16 Days of Activism. The event will feature the President of the 78th Session of the General Assembly, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Directors of UN Women and UNFPA, Member States Representatives, Leaders of the Action Coalition on Gender-based Violence, members of civil society and women's rights organizations.

President Zelenskyy and First Lady Zelenska visit the US (Live Blog)
(Updates as reblog)
They officially arrived in New York and will attend the UNGA.
Zelenskyy: "Together we arrived in New York to participate in the events of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. The topic of discussion this time is "Restoring Trust and Global Solidarity". Ukraine is well aware of the importance of both. We have a lot to say. So, we have important and busy days ahead. The Security Council. The Sustainable Development Goals Summit. Important bilateral meetings.
The territorial integrity of a state is a key principle of all basic international documents, including the UN Charter. And it is necessary to restore it to its full strength, which was destroyed by the Russian invasion. Ukraine will make a clear proposal to UN members on this.
Talks are planned in Washington with the President of the United States, with leaders of the chambers and parties of Congress, and with the military leadership.
@olenazelenska_official will make several speeches on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. In particular, she will talk about Ukrainian children and what they are forced to go through because of the enemy attack. She will discuss medical partnership for Ukraine and saving lives with the WHO Director-General. She will also meet with the Clinton family, friends and patrons of the arts who support Ukraine, and together with UNESCO, open an exhibition dedicated to the destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage. By the way, recently St Sophia of Kyiv and the historic centre of Lviv were included in the UNESCO Special List of Monuments in Danger. -
Solidarity - human and global - remains the only remedy against barbarism and aggression."

THE SECOND ANNUAL SUMMIT WILL UNVEIL THE FIFTEEN 2023 EARTHSHOT PRIZE FINALISTS WHO ARE TRAILBLAZING CLIMATE SOLUTIONS TO REPAIR OUR PLANET BY 2030
The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies today announced they will co-host the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 19, 2023, in New York City with the founder of The Earthshot Prize, Prince William, expected to attend.
Held during New York Climate Week and the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Summit will convene previous Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists with policymakers, global business leaders, philanthropists, and climate activists to scale their innovative solutions.
At the Summit, The Earthshot Prize will reveal this year’s 15 Finalists and introduce their groundbreaking climate and environmental solutions to repair our planet this decade on one of the biggest international stages.
To help drive meaningful change, and accelerate the collaborations and investments needed to scale those solutions, the Summit will connect the new and previous Earthshot Prize Finalists and Winners with forward-thinking business leaders, philanthropists, and governments already working to regenerate the planet. September’s Summit begins the countdown to The Earthshot Prize’s third annual Awards ceremony in Singapore, where, on November 7, 2023, five of the 15 Finalists will be awarded a catalytic £1 million to scale their cutting-edge solutions.
Alongside Prince William, Michael R. Bloomberg, Global Advisor to the Winners of The Earthshot Prize, will address the assembled guests. Other featured speakers will include policymakers, business leaders, climate innovators, and previous Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists. The full agenda will be announced in due course
Founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2020, The Earthshot Prize is a global environmental prize to discover, accelerate, and scale ground-breaking solutions that can help put the world firmly on a trajectory toward a stable climate where communities, oceans, and biodiversity thrive in harmony by 2030.
Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, which united millions of people around the goal of reaching the moon, The Earthshot Prize recognizes Finalists and Winners across five challenges, or ‘Earthshots’: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World, and Fix our Climate. The Prize aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism and will discover 50 winners over 10 years with the power to repair the planet
The inaugural 2021 Earthshot Prize Finalists have already driven incredible impact with more than 1.5 million people benefiting directly from their solutions. Over 7,000 hectares of land and almost 2.1 million hectares of ocean have been protected or restored, while over 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions have been reduced, avoided, or sequestered. The 2022 Finalists, announced this past autumn, are well on their way to creating similar impact.
To help accelerate the work of the inaugural Finalists at last year’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, Bloomberg Philanthropies committed more than $20 million through direct grants, co-funding, and other efforts to support the success of the inaugural Finalists and Winners of The Earthshot Prize 2021, including:
Scaling Takachar’s technology, which reduces smoke emissions from agricultural waste by up to 98%, through a pilot program in villages in the state of Punjab and Haryana, India.
Supercharging Pristine Seas’ 30×30 ocean protected goal through funding major ocean expeditions, helping establish more marine protected areas, and enhancing diplomacy and advocacy efforts. Pristine Seas has already helped establish 26 marine reserves worldwide, across an area over twice the size of India.
Scaling Coral Vita’s research capabilities to identify new restoration sites and monitor both restoration progress and local marine health after installation. Coral Vita’s cutting-edge methods to grow coral up to 50 times faster than nature can help replant our oceans and give new life to dying ecosystems.
Expanding the capacity of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs and Blue Map App to scale its data, research, and reporting capabilities.
Convening at least ten North American and European cities in partnership with C40 and NRDC to accelerate efforts to address food waste and food insecurity by sharing best practices from and helping to scale the City of Milan’s Local Food Waste Hub initiative, which currently provides about 260,000 meals to those most in need, to other cities.
As a mayor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Michael R. Bloomberg has long been a global leader in the fight against climate change. He has committed more than $1 billion to efforts across the world to mobilize cities and local leaders to reduce emissions, improve air quality, advance the global transition to clean energy, protect and preserve ocean ecosystems, and help unlock billions of dollars in sustainable finance.
Bloomberg helps lead a number of efforts including the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy, America Is All In Coalition, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, Climate Finance Leaders Initiative, and the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero.
“To effectively tackle the climate crisis, we need to invest in innovative solutions and new ideas that can accelerate global progress and help repair the planet. This year’s Earthshot Prize Finalists are great examples of the kind of bold action and creative thinking we need, and our team is looking forward to working with Prince William to support them as they expand their ambitions.”
Michael R. Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions, Founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, and 108th Mayor of New York City
“The Earthshot Prize scours the world to find entrepreneurs and innovators who exemplify the power of human ingenuity to address our most significant climate and environmental challenges. Our next class of Finalists are on the cutting-edge of some of the most exciting ideas and technologies, and with the support of our Global Alliance Partners and the global community gathering at the UN General Assembly, they have the potential to transform communities around the world for the better. By spotlighting the incredible work of our 2023 Finalists at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, we hope to inspire a wave of positive change and unlock a more sustainable and resilient future.”
Hannah Jones, The Earthshot Prize CEO

Fucking hell.
And the mask has slipped once again.
Kindly reblog the shit out of these articles please.
I agree.
Hopefully something comes of this.
Ideally I’d like to see the UN sanction the bollocks out of Azerbaijan like is currently being done with Russia over their PUTRID invasion of Ukraine, and like it did with Yugoslavia in the 1990s (don’t think I don’t know, I read the fucking resolutions myself!).
Glad to see some people in Turkey calling out Azerbaijan for its bullshit as well.
Yeah I posted a LOT of articles here.
Kindly reblog the shit out of this.

19 September 2023: King Abdullah II, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein & Prince Hashem, participated in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In an address to the General Assembly, he said Jordan will protect itself against any future threats that the Syrian crisis could pose to the Kingdom’s national security. He reiterated that Syrian refugees’ future is in their country, not in host countries.
Turning to the Palestinians cause, the King said that without clarity on where Palestinians’ future lies, it will be impossible to converge on a political solution to the conflict.
“How can people trust in global justice while settlement building, land confiscations, and home demolitions continue?” His Majesty asked, warning that the world must not abandon Palestinian refugees to the forces of despair.
The King said Jordan remains committed to safeguarding Jerusalem’s identity, under the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Noting the waning international attention towards refugees, His Majesty said, “Is the international community going to watch as refugee families find themselves forced to send their children to work instead of school?”
At the same time, His Majesty reaffirmed Jordanians’ seriousness about their duty to those in need, noting that they have done everything they can to secure a dignified life for refugees.
“We cannot allow for a lost generation on our watch,” the King warned.
Following is the full text of His Majesty’s speech:
“In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful Mr President, Mr Secretary General, Your Excellencies:
When human catastrophes seem beyond description, we turn to the appalling statistics.
This year, around the world, more than 345 million people face food insecurity, daily hunger, or starvation.
Among the most vulnerable are 108 million refugees, people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes and ways of life.
And forty percent of these refugees are children, the most defenceless of all.
Yet these numbers cannot really convey the tragedy—or the failure.
Refugees are our brothers, our sisters. They look to our countries to help end the crises that have driven them from home.
Refugees are mothers, fathers, grandparents, who have made perilous journeys to save their families.
They are young people with big dreams, and little children who deserve the chance to dream big.
They depend on the international community for their survival, and multiple UN agencies provide vital services to help meet the need.
But in recent months, one by one, these agencies have been delivering difficult news—a severe shortfall in international funds has forced them to cut support.
Is this what we’ve come to? Is the international community going to watch as refugee families find themselves forced to send their children to work instead of school?
In Jordan, where refugees make up over one third of our 11-million population, cuts have already thrown the lives of hundreds of thousands of refugees into uncertainty.
The impact of such humanitarian shortfalls is never limited to a country or a region. Fear and want bring on sharp increases in the number of refugees fleeing to Europe and beyond, on journeys that too often end in tragedy.
My Friends,
Jordanians are serious about our duty to those in need. We have done everything we can to secure a dignified life for refugees.
Nearly half of the almost 1.4 million Syrians we host are under 18 years of age. For many of them, Jordan is the only place they have ever known—over 230,000 Syrian children have been born in Jordan since 2011.
We are sharing precious resources to help them meet basic needs— food, energy, and especially, water. We are among the water-poorest countries in the world, even as our water supplies face extraordinary demand.
And we face these pressures just when another crisis has hit our region—climate change, with its destructive heatwaves, drought and flooding.
And to meet the refugee burden, we have been carefully managing to combine our limited resources with essential support from the international community. Because the responsibility to act falls on everyone’s shoulders. Because the world cannot afford to walk away and leave a lost generation behind.
But today, Jordan’s capacity to deliver necessary services to refugees has surpassed our limits.
Syrian refugees’ future is in their country, not in host countries. But until they are able to return, we must all do right by them.
And the fact is refugees are far from returning. On the contrary, more Syrians are likely to leave their country as the crisis persists.
And Jordan will not have the ability nor the resources to host and care for more.
We must find a political solution consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. The step-for-step approach, offers a path forward. Proposed by Jordan as the basis for engagement with the Syrian government, and coordinated with the UN, this approach sets a roadmap to incrementally resolve the crisis and deal with all its consequences.
Until then, we will protect our country against any future threats the crisis could pose to our national security.
My Friends,
Jordan’s case is a microcosm of our entire region. For all our peoples’ immense potential, repeated crises have held back the promise of greater development and prosperity.
Our region is a focal point, where some of the most urgent global challenges are converging.
How will our world respond?
Will we come together in global solidarity, to get to the root of the problem: the conflicts and crises that destroy life and hope?
Will we work as one, to rebuild the lost trust in international action, and help those in want?
My Friends,
Our region will continue to suffer until the world helps lift the shadow of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict—the central issue in the Middle East.
No architecture for regional security and development can stand over the burning ashes of this conflict.
But seven and a half decades on, it still smoulders. Where are we going?
Without clarity on where Palestinians’ future lies, it will be impossible to converge on a political solution to this conflict.
Five million Palestinians live under occupation—no civil rights; no freedom of mobility; no say in their lives.
Yet every UN resolution since the beginning of this conflict recognises the equal rights of the Palestinian people to a future of peace, dignity, and hope. This is the heart of the two-state solution—the only path to a comprehensive, lasting peace.
We can see the Israeli people actively defending and engaging in the expression of their national identity. Yet the Palestinian people are deprived of that same right! To express and fulfil their own national identity! The basic requirement for that right is the establishment of their own independent and viable state, on the June 4th, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living alongside Israel in peace, security, and prosperity.
And delaying justice and peace has brought endless cycles of violence—2023 has been the deadliest for the Palestinian people in the past 15 years.
How can people trust in global justice while settlement building, land confiscations, and home demolitions continue? Where is the global solidarity to make UN resolutions believable by people in need of our help?
Jerusalem is a flash point for global concern. Under the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites, Jordan remains committed to safeguarding the city’s identity.
But preserving Jerusalem, as the city of faith and peace for Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, is a responsibility that we all share.
And we must not abandon Palestinian refugees to the forces of despair. Sustainable funding is urgently needed by UNRWA, the UN agency that provides vital relief, education, and health services to millions of Palestinian refugees. This is essential to protect families, keep communities stable, and prepare young people for productive lives.
We must protect young Palestinians from extremists who prey on their frustrations and hopelessness, by making sure they continue to learn at schools under the blue flag of the United Nations, as the alternative will be the black flags of terror, hate, and extremism.
My Friends,
We come together here as partners, to deal with our challenges and shape a better future.
We speak here for our people. We speak for families and the younger generations. We speak for victims of conflict, displacement, hunger, climate change disasters, and more.
They are not mere statistics. They are our fellow human beings, sharing our world. Only by restoring trust, only by acting in solidarity, will we create the future all our peoples desire and deserve.
We cannot allow for a lost generation on our watch. Thank you”.
The Jordanian delegation at the 78th Session of the UNGA included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mahmoud Hmoud.

Marking the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide.
Concept Note of the High-level Commemorative Event on the occasion of the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica pursuant to General Assembly Resolution 78/282. Organized by the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN and cosponsored by the Permanent Missions of Albania, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Rwanda, Slovenia, Sweden, Türkiye to the UN 11 July 2024, 11 am – 12 pm UN General Assembly Hall Srebrenica marks one of the darkest chapters in modern human history. The war that followed the breakup of the former Yugoslavia claimed more than 100,000 lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995, mostly of Bosnian Muslims, and displaced more than two million others. The list of atrocities committed during that time is overwhelming, but Srebrenica, without a doubt, became its darkest chapter. Previously declared as the UN “safe area,” 8,372 women, men, and children were systematically executed in July 1995 in and around the town of Srebrenica, the largest atrocity on European soil since the Second World War. On 11 July, the people of Srebrenica will gather yet again around silent tombstones in Potočari to mark the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide. This year, they will add 14 more to the 6751 already standing in the Memorial Centre Potočari. 14 families will finally have closure. Pain, however, will remain forever. On this day, 11 July, International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica, pursuant to the General Assembly Resolution 78/282, we will add our voice in remembering their names and commemorating all innocent lives lost. But we will also send a strong message of hope, the resilience of the human spirit, and the power of justice. Opening remarks: ➢ H.E. UN General Assembly president: The UN Security Council remains unable to maintain international peace and security
The president of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly said on Thursday that the UN Security Council was failing in its responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
Dennis Francis’ remarks came during a session on Council reform at the UN General Assembly, during which he noted that conflicts and wars continue to spread in many parts of the world. Francis emphasised that the UN was “paralysed” in confronting these challenges because of divisions within the UN Security Council. He said:
During this major transformation, the UN Security Council remains dangerously unable to fulfill its basic duty to maintain international peace and security.
Francis stressed that unless there is structural reform in the Council, the credibility of the entire United Nations, not just the Security Council, will be in question.
The main purpose of the United Nations, established 75 years ago, on 24 October 1945, after the end of the Second World War, is the maintenance of international peace and security.
