Hi DJ! If you’re still taking first kiss prompts, I was thinking something with “an accidental first kiss” with Mayday could be fun? I could see him freaking out at first and then totally going back for a second one once he realizes there’s feelings involved.
And if you don’t have time to get to this no worries! I hope you’re doing well 🤗 🙏🏻
Tumblr media
A/N: Thanks for the ask @lightwise! This inspired me immediately, and I’ve been chomping at the bit to get to it!
Pairing: Commander Mayday x Reader (GN)
Rating: T but minors DNI as always
Wordcount: 629
Warnings and tags: fluff; sympathetic embarrassment
Summary: You accidentally kiss Mayday. Things go better than expected. Also, if you love the idea of accidentally kissing Mayday, be sure to check out @moonlightwarriorqueen’s response to a similar ask!

You rubbed your eyes, trying to clear your vision—blurred from exhaustion and overwork—as you stared at your datapad. You were up to your ass in paperwork and preparations for the 77th Heavy Brigade’s deployment to the Outer Rim sieges, and you were barely halfway through. All around you, troopers, droids, and GAR personnel hustled through the cargo bay, stacking crates, calling out orders and occasional curses, and generally making an unholy ruckus.
You had just ticked three more crates off the cargo manifest on your datapad when you felt a light tap on your shoulder. Startled, you turned to see the brigade’s commander himself, carrying a ration bar and looking far more handsome than he had any right to when you knew he’d been working just as hard or harder than you had. His beard was freshly trimmed, and his long hair was just as tempting as ever, making your fingers itch to thread through it.
“Mayday,” you gasped. “I didn’t even hear you.”
He smiled. “Didn’t mean to startle you. Thought you might need this.”
He handed you the ration bar, and you accepted it gratefully, realizing you hadn’t eaten all day.
“Ugh, you’re the best,” you said, leaning in to kiss him on the cheek.
“Commander!” a trooper called, drawing his attention, and he turned his head just in time for your lips to collide directly with his.
You both froze, eyes wide as you stared at each other, lips still pressed together.
“Uh, never mind, it can wait,” the trooper said, scurrying away.
You stayed like that for a breath longer, paralyzed by mortification, until at last you pulled away, shielding your eyes with one hand to try to hide.
“Jeez, I’m so sorry,” you mumbled. “That was—I didn’t mean—”
Mayday let out an awkward, strained chuckle. “That’s all right. It was just an accident.”
“Uh-huh,” you said, still refusing to meet his eyes.
He paused. “Hey… It was an accident… Right?”
“Yeah!” you said, your voice coming out in an unconvincing squeak. “I definitely didn’t want it to happen like that…”
You turned back to your datapad, desperately hoping that he would take the hint and just go away, leaving you to die of embarrassment in peace.
He paused. “But you did want it to happen?”
You dropped your head to peer more closely at the cargo manifest, muttering something indistinctly under your breath. Mayday glanced around the cargo bay, then took you gently by the wrist and tugged you behind a stack of crates, shielding you from view of the bustling crowd. His fingertips ghosted along your jaw, softly tilting your face toward his.
“Did you want it?” he murmured.
Unable to hide behind your datapad any longer, you forced yourself to meet his eyes, knowing that he’d see the truth in your expression.
“M—Mayday… I…” You swallowed, then whispered, “Yes.”
He trailed his fingers down your throat, then slid his strong, warm hand to the back of your neck and slowly pulled you closer. His lips were so soft as he kissed you—soft enough to surprise you, even though you’d already felt them beneath your own. You drew in a soft, shuddering breath as your eyes drifted closed. Distantly, you heard the clatter of your ration bar and datapad as you dropped them to the durasteel floor, leaving your hands free to slide around his body as his tongue brushed over your lips.
The kiss ended far sooner than you would have preferred, but Mayday still held you in his arms, gazing down at you with an awestruck expression.
“Kriff,” he breathed. “We should do that again.”
You nodded enthusiastically, tangling your fingers in his hair the way you’d wanted to for so many months and pulling his face back to yours. “Absolutely.”

Britain secretly advised the Israeli military on psychological warfare techniques, Declassified has found.
Leaked documents reveal how the British army’s 77th brigade discussed strategy and tactics with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).
The 77th brigade uses psychological operations and social media to help fight wars “in the information age”.
It specialises in “non-lethal forms of psychological warfare” such as cyber-attacks, propaganda activities, and counter-insurgency operations online.
Israel’s own information operations have involved using fabricated videos and fake social media accounts to defend the bombing of Gaza.
Two exchanges with the IDF took place at the 77th brigade’s barracks in Hermitage, Berkshire, between 2018-19.

The IDF says troops of the Maglan and Egoz commando units, along with other forces, have killed dozens of gunmen during a new offensive against Hamas in the al-Amal neighborhood of Khan Younis.
The raid, which began Sunday, is being carried out by the Commando Brigade, the Paratroopers Brigade's reconnaissance unit, and the 7th Armored Brigade's 77th Battalion.
The IDF says it has "precise intelligence" indicating that Hamas operatives are using civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, in the al-Amal neighborhood for terror activities.
Troops have also captured a large amount of weapons and located Hamas sites in the area, the IDF says.
Meanwhile, the IDF releases new details into its 10-day operation at the Hamad Town residential complex in southern Gaza's Khan Younis, which was wrapped up last week, where the military says troops captured some 300 terror operatives and killed around 100 gunmen.
That raid was also carried out by the Maglan and Egoz commando units, along with other forces. The commandos had raided the multi-story buildings in the Qatari-funded neighborhood, where the IDF said there was Hamas infrastructure.
Amid the raid at Hamad, troops also found the weapon of Col. Jonathan Steinberg, the commander of the Nahal Brigade who was killed during the October 7 onslaught.

Description: On his first combat assignment, Cornett accompanied the Vietnamese Rangers on a search-and-destroy mission near Khe Sang. There he gained entree into a culture that he would ultimately respect greatly and admire deeply. Cornett's most challenging military duty began when he joined the Phoenix Program. As part of AK squad, he dressed in enemy uniform and roamed the deadly Central Highlands, capturing high-ranking VC officers in hot firefights and ambushes. It was there, deep in enemy territory, where the smallest mistake meant sudden death, that the Vietnamese fighting men earned his utmost respect. While offering rare glimpses of an aspect of the war most of the military and media never saw, Cornett tells the full, gut-wrenching story of his Vietnam. He also gives an unsparing view of himself - telling a no-holds-barred story of an American soldier who made sacrifices far beyond the call of duty . . . a soldier who, in defiance of the U.S. government, refused to turn his back on the Vietnamese. From the Paperback edition.
Review: This is a book that is great in some places, less so in others. I was actually tempted to stop reading it part way through because of how the story ends, and there will be spoilers in this review.
This book is a lot about failure, and overcoming failure, and then more and more failure. So much failure. This is a dude who... fails. He also succeeds but where the heart of the story is, well it's in his failures. He manages to end up in the famed Green Berets as a medic and assigned to Project Delta/B-52 but is basically kicked out for being a liability. He ends up in the 101st with their brigade LRRP team where he finds his first home. For those of you who read a lot about the VN war, you'll recognize a lot of the cast of characters in this section, with a majority of the focus being on his relationship with Rey Martinez. He then bounces around a bit, a little time in Germany, some time training medical stuff at replacement centers, and eventually as an Advisor in a few different areas. Throughout all of this he falls in love, fucks up the relationships, gets into a fucked up relationship, does a lot of drugs, gets drunk a lot, gets in trouble a lot, and eventually marries a VN woman who he later drifts apart from even though staying close to his brother in law who he fought with. At one point he tries to kill his XO and is court-martialed for it, but somehow manages to serve his time and rejoin the army for a very long career - totally unheard of but true! The problem with the book is that it is uneven, which keeps it from being a 5 star book... his coverage of certain battles is super finely detailed whereas his court martial and time in jail is barely a wisp of text. He tells more about using drugs and drinking than he does talking about his role as a medic and the training. Overall a good book and fills in some more stories from the 101st and the 302nd RF Co. He does a great job with the other cast of characters, and their stories and it's worth it just for that.
