Sam accepted the film and held it up to the light, angling so both he and Steve could see it, squinting at the outline of the Winter Soldier’s skull, and the blips of unnatural white that showed up, God, in his brain, not to mention about half his teeth, plus the mask, with its thin protrusions— “Those are pins,” Steve realized. He looked over at Hill. “The mask—it’s nailed to his face.” Hill’s face was as unmoved as ever. “Like I said. They really didn’t want it coming off.”

I love how, the very first time I go looking for a fanfic that is not Batman-related (it's a Twilight AU where Edward is a human and Bella is a vampire, and I'm proud of how quickly I actually found one) the author's name LITERALLY has "Batman" in it.

Summary:

Steve Rogers is an artist trying to make it work in Brooklyn. Things have been going alright until recently, with his boyfriend ignoring him and falling out of the picture - then one Bucky Barnes shows up at his door to inform him that his boyfriend is not only dead but left quite a bit of money owed to a local gang, of which Bucky works for - and he is here to collect. Steve has to either take up Bucky's unconventional offer of repayment or find himself in a very bad way. Time will tell on whether or not Bucky's place in his life will be ultimately bad, or maybe just a bit of the good he has been looking for.

Through a series of events, he ends up caring for the man and bringing him into his life in the only way he can make any sense out of. I am bad at summaries. Like, really bad. Steve is a farmer. Bucky is a lonely baby with nowhere to go. And there is a dog.
