The Nameless Fanfic (3/5 stories drafted): Masterpost

The Nameless Fanfic is a series of crossover fanfics for Time to Orbit: Unknown and The Murderbot Diaries. I post the rough drafts here as I write them, then edit them and post them on AO3. As of right now, I have three stories drafted completely, two edited and being posted on ao3 (first one complete; second on-going), and one in the pre-writing/drafting stages. There are also three standalone short stories from OC perspectives, with plans for more.

The series begins post-canon for TTOU and just after Fugitive Telemetry for TMBD, but spoiler-wise it's extremely heavy spoilers for the end of TTOU (of the "you should probably read the original first" variety), and light spoilers for Fugitive Telemetry for TMBD. As of the story 3 time skip, we've entered post-canon territory for TMBD as well, with extremely heavy spoilers for NE and SC.

(A lot. A lot is wrong with that ship. One, it’s not ART. Two, it’s kind of an asshole anyway. Three, it has feelings. And morals. And that last one might be the worst.)

The alien remnant contamination did far more damage to Perihelion's wormhole drive than anyone had initially realized, and the PSUMNT researchers are at a loss with how to solve the problem. But SecUnit and its Preservation humans have seen “super fast organic wormhole drives” before. With the reluctant permission of Perihelion's crew, a distress call is sent to Trellin, and three scientist teams, two sentient research transports, and one SecUnit convene to figure out how (and whether) ART can get its wings back.

Set after System Collapse.

Author's note: the main thing that you need to know about this story is that I started writing what I thought would be the NE analogue in this cycle, and it turned out to be SC: ART Edition instead. So expect a marked tone shift in comparison to the previous two stories, leaning towards introspection and existentialism. Also, altered states of consciousness.

I have almost everything that isn't just PWP beta read! I like having trusted friends in my docs, it gives me motivation to write and also I am needy and require validation while I'm writing. Beta readers make such a difference though - I can edit my own work and come up with a pretty clean copy when I don't use a beta reader - but it's always good to get fresh perspective to address any plot holes or just add that little bit extra. And also to remind me that sentences should not be 5 lines long all the time and point out when I use the same word 3 times in one paragraph 😅

2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?

indie band patrick is currently sitting at just over 20k and it's not quite halfway done

3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

At the moment, none of them. I am struggling. But I think indie band patrick has been the most enjoyable.

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

Any of the non-SC wips. I know I've talked about this a lot but I am having trouble hearing their voices. I'll get over it, but it's a struggle.

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

See above. I keep writing a few lines and then getting in my head about it and giving up.

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

I usually ask someone to look at everything I write before I post unless it's a super quick prompt fill or something, so probably all of them.

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

At the moment, all of them.

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?

I'm not sure any of them have OCs of note yet. Of course there are a few in indie band patrick but none that are fleshed out enough to call them a favorite.

10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

None of them yet, though there will be certainly be some spice in indie band Patrick and the grindr au, if that ever gets finished.

11. Which WIP is the angstiest?

Definitely you can have manhattan since it's exes to lovers, though the twylexis childhood friends to lovers certainly has quite a bit as well.

12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?

Indie band Patrick, I think. At least I hope.

14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?

Indie band Patrick. I challenged myself to really dive into the world building and it has been a lot of work but I like how it's turning out. But that's also a large part of why it's taking so long lol.

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?

Honestly, I have no idea.

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?

Not that I remember.

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?

The aforementioned worldbuilding in indie band patrick. Non-linear timeline in Twylexis friends to lovers. PSL is all epistolary.

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

I hope the halloween fic I'm trying desperately to finish by tomorrow, but we'll see!

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

No but I should really add another one of those, I love them.

Three of them were directly inspired by songs!
