MHG Signs Two Hotels in Doha, Qatar

Thailand’s Minor Hotels Group has signed a management agreement with a private developer for two new properties in Doha, Qatar. Currently in the pre-opening phase, The Vyra Suites NH Collection Doha is a 228-key serviced apartment property located in West Bay, Doha’s prominent business district hosting much of the city’s most modern infrastructure. Situated amongst a plethora of commercial skyscrapers, large scale mixed-use developments and government entities, the new-build 44-storey property is comprised of 72 one bedroom, 144 two-bedroom, and 12 three-bedroom apartments, as well as a restaurant, coffee shop, gym, indoor swimming pool, kids’ club, teens room, and a number of meeting rooms.

This will be the first NH Collection to launch in the Middle East and the first outside of the brand’s traditional areas of operation in Europe and South America. Additionally, The Plaza Doha Anantara Hotel & Suites (pictured) is under development in the Um Ghuwelina area of the city, approximately 15 minutes’ drive from Hamad International Airport. The 292-key property will feature 118 guest rooms and 174 apartment suites, a large F&B offering which includes multiple dining options and a fully air conditioned courtyard atrium which will be the centrepiece of the property. Other facilities will include a spa and wellness area, a roof top infinity swimming pool and an indoor pool, a kids’ club, gym and an 1,200 square metre ballroom along with six meeting rooms. “We are very excited to announce these two upcoming hotels and to grow and launch our brands in Doha,” said Dillip Rajakarier, CEO Minor Hotels. “The combination of both Anantara and NH Collection, combined with our existing portfolio, will attract a diverse range of travellers and meet the market’s increasing demand for short and long term accommodation.” MHG currently operates 17 properties in the Middle East, including Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, three Tivoli properties and one Oaks in Qatar. Only part of the catacombs is open to the public.

Island of the Dolls, New Mexico:

According to legend, a girl would have drowned in mysterious circumstances and the island would have been dedicated to her memory. It is one of the most haunted houses in America. There are 12 ghosts in this house. The reports indicate that 10 murders were committed in this house or on neighboring land. Bhangarh Fort, India:

Regarded as the most haunted place in India, Bhangarh Fort is ranked fifth on our list of the most haunted tourist attractions. It is a fort in Rajasthan, India. If legend is to be believed, the city was cursed by a wizard. Anyone who goes to Bhangarh after sunset or before sunrise never comes back. Beechworth Lunatic Asylum, Australia:

Known originally as the Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum, it is one of the most haunted places in Australia. As the name suggests, it was a psychiatric asylum in the past. In the 130 years it has operated as a mental hospital, 9,000 patients have died. To this day, these souls can be seen here. Ghost tours are organized for visitors to this lunatic asylum.

The 178-year-old travel giant has cancelled all its flights, leading the government to initiate its biggest repatriation effort since the Second World War. A rescue fleet has been scrambled to bring back holidaymakers stuck overseas. Codenamed Operation Matterhorn, dozens of charter planes, from as far afield as Malaysia, have been hired to fly customers home free of charge. The company’s 21,000 employees — around 9,000 of whom are UK-based — have lost their jobs, with 600,000 people worldwide having their travel plans disrupted. It is despicable. Thomas Cook pilots and all staff deserve better than this. For pilots, BALPA will be supporting our members through the legal complexities of what Thomas Cook liquidation means for them and doing everything we can to help them find alternative jobs in other airlines. 7:44AM On the Beach faces costs from Thomas Cook collapse Another British travel company, On the Beach, has warned this morning that it expects to take a one-off hit as a result of Thomas Cook’s collapse.  On the Beach said that following the failure of Thomas Cook overnight it “is assisting customers that are currently in resort and whose travel plans will be affected”. The beach holiday seller said it anticipates “a one-off exceptional cost associated with helping customers to organise alternative travel arrangements, and lost margin on cancelled bookings”. Generations of customers entrusted their family holiday to Thomas Cook because our people kept our customers at the heart of the business and maintained our founder's spirit of innovation. 7:27AM Statement from Thomas Cook Thomas Cook has made a statement to the stock market this morning confirming that it is entering liquidation.  Further to the announcement made on 20 September 2019, Thomas Cook Group plc (“the Company”) continued to engage with a range of key stakeholders over the weekend in order to secure final terms on the recapitalisation and reorganisation of the Company.  Despite considerable efforts, those discussions have not resulted in agreement between the Company's stakeholders and proposed new money providers. The Company's board has therefore concluded that it had no choice but to take steps to enter into compulsory liquidation with immediate effect. The failed travel company confirmed that the High Court had granted an order for the Official Receiver to be appointed as liquidator. In a statement, the Department for Transport (DfT) says all customers currently abroad with Thomas Cook who are booked to return to the UK over the next two weeks will be brought home as close as possible to their booked return date. The CAA statement said: "Due to the unprecedented number of UK customers currently overseas who are affected by the situation, the Civil Aviation Authority has secured a fleet of aircraft from around the world to bring passengers back to the UK with return flights. "Passengers in a small number of destinations may return on alternative commercial flights, rather than directly through the Civil Aviation Authority's flying programme. Details and advice for these passengers are available on the dedicated website. The Company's board has therefore concluded that it had no choice but to take steps to enter into compulsory liquidation with immediate effect. The failed travel company confirmed that the High Court had granted an order for the Official Receiver to be appointed as liquidator. Day 2: 14 March 2019, New Delhi — Vrindavan (190 Km/3:30 Hrs) Today morning after breakfast at the hotel, later check out from the hotel and drive to Vrindavan. Upon arrival at Vrindavan check in your hotel for night stay. Later afternoon leave for Barsana to witness the most vibrant festival of Color. Thousands of people from all corners of India visit Mathura and Vrindavan, especially on this occasion. The festivities begin with Lathmar Holi played in Barsana, a small village in Mathura. Lathmar Holi usually begins around a week before the main Holiday. During the celebrations, women from Barsana village gather with wooden sticks in their hands to welcome men from Nandgaon, with lath (stick) and beat them. This is part of the tradition as Hindu Mythology says that Lord Krishna along with his friends visited Barsana, Radha’s village (Radha was Lord Krishna’s girlfriend), to tease her and other gopis (girls) by throwing coloured water on them. In retaliation, Radha and gopis chased Krishna and his friends to beat them up with sticks. Even today, people from Nandgoan and Barsana follow the ritual. Men soaked in coloured water arrive in Barsana and tease women by singing provocative songs. The women then beat them with sticks (lathis) and men use shields to protect themselves. Day 3: 15 March 2019, At Vrindavan Today morning after breakfast at the hotel, later leave for Nandgaon as celebrations in Barsana is followed by similar celebrations in Nandgaon (Krishna’s village) on the very next day. It was at Nandgaon that Krishna spent his childhood. As the legend goes, Radha with her friends called gopis would come to Nandgaon on this day to take revenge on Krishna and his friends by splashing colour on them. Since the women do not go, men and trans-genders dressed as women representing women from Barsana go to Nandgaon to celebrate Holi with the men there. They are welcomed with water and colour in the village. This is very unique as the menfolk play Holi with women in a way which is not sexual in its approach but it has the rustic element of wooing and teasing. The main celebrations are held in the courtyard of the temple at Nandgaon as soon the courtyard transforms itself into a visual delight of beautiful colour-explosion. Day 4: 16 March 2019, At Vrindavan Today morning after breakfast at the hotel, later proceed to “Banke-Bihari Temple” hosts a week-long celebration during Holi here. During the festivities, Bihariji (Krishna’s popular name in Braj area) is dressed up in white clothes. Goswamis (priests in the temple) sprinkle colours on everyone The whole atmosphere is made even more lively with music (bhajans) in the background and people dance to the tunes. But on this day of Ekadashi before Holi, there are special celebrations at famous Banke Bihari Temple at Vrindavan in the afternoon after the Temple gate opens at about 4 pm and Holi is not celebrated with colours, but with flowers. Day 5: 17 March 2019, Vrindavan — Agra — Vrindavan (80 Km/1:30 Hrs) Today morning after breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a day trip to Agra visit Taj Mahal and Mehtab Bagh also visit Agra Fort, Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb, Akbar’s Tomb, Jama Masjid, Moti Masjid, Octagonal Tower, Jahangir’s Palace, Chini ka Rauza and Sikandra Fort. Day 6: 18 March 2019, At Vrindavan Today is the day to celebrate Holi festival with emotions as you will witness a special celebration with poor widows. Widows in India always had a difficult life. They were often banished from their homes and were compelled to live in far-off ashrams in places like Varanasi and Vrindavan. They could wear only white clothes and never could use colours or play with colours. It is the only couple of years ago that the widows of Pagal Baba Widow Ashram, Vrindavan decided to do away with this ritual and play with colours. It will really be very encouraging if you support this noble cause by playing Holi with them and bring some cheer and colour to their life. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: 19 March 2019, Vrindavan — Bharatpur — Fatehpur Sikri — Vrindavan (120 Km/2:30 Hrs) Today morning after breakfast at the hotel, later drive to Bharatpur National Park to experience something different and get away from Holi for a day. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary provides a totally unique experience as it is a host to many rare species of migratory birds. The park is a combination of marshland, scrubland and grassland. You will explore the park in a rickshaw or by walk and capture rarest species that have migrated from China, Tibet, Afghanistan, Siberia, Europe, and central Asia. Later also visit Fatehpur Sikri which served as the short-term capital city of the Mughal Empire under the supremacy of Akbar the Great. The city was a perfect presentation of Indo Islamic style. Day 8: 20 March 2019, At Vrindavan Today morning after breakfast at the hotel later will shift to Banke Bihari temple in the morning as the temple opens its doors to all visitors to come and play Holi with Lord Krishna himself. The priests throw colours and holy water and the crowd chants madly in unison. It’s an unbelievable experience to be a part of this event until the doors of the temple are shut at lunchtime. In the afternoon, leave for Mathura to participate in the colourful Holi procession which starts at Vishram Ghat. In the procession, there are about ten vehicles which are decorated with flowers, and some even have kids dressed up as Radha-Krishna, participate in it. Later in the evening, it is time for Holika Dahan which means burning of an effigy of Holika, the devil. There are women who come and pray at various events. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: 21 March 2019, At Vrindavan Today is a big Holiday, the biggest event takes place at the historical Dwarkadheesh Temple in Mathura. On this day, there is a tradition of making and drinking bhang which is an edible preparation of cannabis. We shall come to Vishramghat to catch the process of making Bhang by the priests. You may also try a glass yourself. The temple opens at 10 in the morning and there is a big crowd outside the gates by then playing Holi and throwing colour on anyone who comes there. The atmosphere inside the temple is really great. Priest plays Dhols and everyone there is singing and dancing. You can also join and enjoy the celebration by taking part. Later return to the hotel and it is time to relax after all these fun frolic activities. Overnight at the hotel.

Facts About Tanzania

Safari Duration

Our safaris duration take about 1 to several days, the number of days depends on the selected itinerary weather a long or short program. Most of our safari packages are custom made to reflect the actual needs of the customer. We therefore do not have specific date of travel or accommodation since this are made during program design basing on traveler requirements.

Guides and Languages

We use well and trained guides with more than 10 years experience in tourism operation in Tanzania. Most of them speak English, Spanish, French Italian and German (Other languages translation need advance request).

Hotels and Lodges

In town like Arusha and Moshi prices are normally fixed ranging from US$ 20 (budget accommodations) to more than 200 (Luxury Accommodations) In most national parks prices varies. Always accommodation prices are higher in high season and low in low season. The actual rate will be provided to client on request A good selection of accommodation, ranging from local budget guesthouses to world-class business and boutique hotels, is available in regularly visited urban centres such as Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Zanzibar, but hotels in less popular towns tend not to meet international standards. Relatively affordable camping facilities are available in most parks and reserves.

 Food and Drink

On safari, all meals are usually taken at your lodge or camp, and standards range from adequate to excellent. Most lodges offer a daily set menu, so it’s advisable to specify in advance if you are vegetarian or have other specific dietary requirements. Most lodges offer the option of a packed breakfast and/or lunch box, which are variable in standard, but do allow you to eat on the trot rather than having to base game viewing hours around meal time. In larger towns such as Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Morogoro, Arusha and Moshi, several bespoke restaurants offer high quality international cuisine, with Indian eateries being particularly well represented. Local staples include a stiff maize porridge called ugali or cooked plantain dish called matoke or batoke, both of which are typically served with a bland stews made with chicken, beef, mutton or beans. Excellent seafood is available along the coast. The usual bottled soft drinks (known locally as sodas) are available. Around ten different lager beers are bottled locally, of which Castle, Kilimanjaro and Serengeti seem to be the most popular. South African wines are widely available at lodges and hotels, and they are generally of a high standard and reasonably priced by international standards.

Health and Safety

There are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry to Tanzania unless you are coming from an area infected with Yellow Fever, in which case a Certificate of Inoculation against Yellow Fever will be required.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance which includes curtailment and cancellation coverage as well as international medical insurance upon confirmation of your booking.

Tipping

Tipping the guide and cook (if camping) after your journey is normally part of the experience in Tanzania and other parts of east Africa, particularly as they are trying very hard to make your trip memorable one. For mountain climbing guests are highly advice to provide tips after the climb and after all luggage are loaded to the safari vehicle  at the end.

Entry Requirements

A valid passport is mandatory, and it shouldn’t expire within six months of your intended date of departure from Tanzania. Visas are required by most visitors and cost US$30-60, depending on your nationality. They can be obtained on arrival at any international airport or land border – a straightforward procedure that requires no photographs, nor any other documentation aside from a passport. A standard tourist visa is normally valid for three months after arrival and allows for multiple entries to Tanzania from neighboring Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, but not from other countries. For those who prefer to arrange a visa in advance, Tanzanian embassies or high commissions exist in USA,  Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, China, CIS, India, Japan, Netherlands,  Sweden, and other countries

Getting There

There are three international airports. Dar es Salaam is used by most international airlines, and is convenient for business travelers or those exploring the southern safari circuit. The mainland alternative is Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), which lies midway between Moshi and Arusha and is well placed as a springboard for safaris to the Serengeti and other northern reserves. Some international flights land at Zanzibar. Air Tanzania, British Airways, Gulf Air, KLM, Lufthansa and Swissair all fly to Tanzania from Europe, while African airlines servicing Tanzania include EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and South African Airways. Once in Tanzania, a good network of domestic flights connects Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, as well as other less visited towns. Private airlines also run scheduled flights connecting to most parts of the country, including Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia, Serengeti (Grumeti and Seronera), Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Mwanza, Rubondo Island, Kigoma, Selous, Ruaha, Katavi and Mahale. Many tourists land at Nairobi (Kenya) and then fly on to Arusha with any of several regional operators. Several safe and affordable shuttle bus services connect the two cities via Namanga border post, departing at around 08.00 and 14.00 daily and taking four hours in either direction.

 What to Pack

Carry at least one change of shirt and underwear for every day you will be on safari, as it can be tedious to organize laundry en route. Dusty conditions practically enforce a daily change of clothes, so it can be a good idea to set aside one or two shirts for evening use only. Shorts and a tee-shirt are perfectly adequate daytime wear on safari, but long trousers and warmer clothing might be required at night, to protect against cold and against mosquitoes. Socks and underwear should be made from natural fabrics. Anybody who intends to climb Kilimanjaro should seek specialist advice about clothing from their operator. The predominantly Islamic inhabitants of the coast and offshore islands are used to tourists and are reasonably tolerant of Western dress codes. Nevertheless, it is still advisable to err on the side of modesty, especially in urban settings and inhabited areas. Binoculars are essential to watch distant wildlife in the game reserves. For most purposes, 7×21 compact binoculars will be fine, but birdwatchers will find a 10x magnification more useful, and should definitely carry a good field guide. If you wear contact lenses, bring all the fluids you need, possibly a pair of glasses as a fallback – many safari goers find the combination of sun, dust and dryness irritates their eyes. Cash, travelers’ cheques, credit cards, passport and other important documentation are best carried in a money belt that can be hidden beneath your clothing. This should be made of cotton or another natural fabric, and the contents could be wrapped in plastic to protect it against sweat. Other useful items include a torch, a penknife, a compact alarm clock and strong mosquito repellent.

Photo Taking

Wildlife photography will be very frustrating without a reasonably big lens, ideally 300mm or larger. Fixed fast lenses offer the best quality but are costly and cumbersome, so most people settle for a zoom, which allows you to play with composition without changing lenses. Tele-converters are a cheap and compact way to increase magnification, but incur a loss of quality. A solid beanbag, which you can make yourself very cheaply, will help avoid blurred images when photographing wildlife from a vehicle. Another option is a clamp with a tripod head screwed on. Plan ahead when it comes to charging digital camera batteries and storage devices. Most hotels/lodges have charging points, but it’s best to enquire in advance. When camping you might have to rely on charging from the car battery. Either way, make sure you have all the chargers, cables, converters with you, as well as sufficient memory space to store your photos. Tanzanians generally find it unacceptable to be photographed without permission, and many people will expect a donation before they agree to be snapped. Don’t try to sneak photographs as you might get yourself into trouble, especially with the Maasai, who are very touchy about this.

Communications

Internet cafés are prolific in larger towns such as Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha, Mwanza and Moshi, and browsing is faster and more affordable than in most African countries, though it may seem rather ponderous to Europeans used to ultra-fast broadband. Internet access is available in some areas of the national parks through mobile broadband offered by VodaCom, TIGO, AirTel and TTCL Hence you must buy a temporary simcard between the four ISPs.  Local guidance is vital for this case International phone calls can be made through these companies’ services VodaCom, AirTel Halotel TIGO, TTCL and Zantel Note that, while TTCL is Government owned other are privately owned While Zantel main operations are in Zanzibar, others are in Tanzania Mainland. You will be needed to buy a local SIM card and use the local pay-as-you-go service, which is very cheap for local and international calls and text messages.

 Craft Shopping

Popular items include Makonde carvings, Tingatinga paintings, batiks, musical instruments, wooden spoons, and various small soapstone and malachite carvings. The colourful vitenge (the singular of this is kitenge) worn by most Tanzanian women can be picked up cheaply at any market in the country. The curio shops near the clock tower in Arusha are the best place to shop for curios, offering decent quality at competitive prices, bur a good selection is also available on Zanzibar and in many upmarket hotel shops. Prices in shops are fixed, but those offered at stalls are highly negotiable. Unless you are good at bargaining, you may well end up paying more at a stall than you would in a shop!

Etiquette

Formal greetings are taken seriously; even if you speak no Swahili it is polite to greet somebody with a smiling ‘jambo’ or ‘habari’ before you enter into conversation. It is considered poor taste for men and women to display open affection, for instance by holding hands in public, or kissing or embracing would be seriously offensive. Oddly, it is quite normal for friends of the same sex to walk around hand-in-hand. In Islamic societies, it is considered offensive for a woman to expose her knees or shoulders, a custom that ought to be taken on board by female travellers, especially on parts of the coast where tourists remain a relative novelty. It is customary to tip your guide at the end of a safari and or a Kilimanjaro climb, as well as any cook or porter that accompanies you. A figure of roughly US$5-10 per day is accepted as the benchmark, though it is advisable to check this in advance with your safari company. In restaurants, a tip of anything from 5-15% would be acceptable, depending on the circumstances.

Crime

Crime levels are relatively low, though it’s wise not to walk around an unfamiliar town after dark – taxis are readily available. The risk of casual theft is greatest in bus stations and markets, where you should avoid carrying loose valuables in your pocket or daypack In any urban situation, try to avoid advertising your wealth in the form a dangling camera, expensive jewellery, handbag, or externally worn money-belt.

Health

The main concern is malaria. All visitors should take prophylactic drugs. It’s also strongly recommended to cover up in the evening, wear repellent, and sleep under a net or burn a coil to reduce the risk of bites. Tap water is suspect, but mineral water is widely available and reasonably priced

You know when you’re in Chicago you HAVE to stop by one of the breweries who started it all; hence why eatingwithlittlemariii and I went to Goose Island Brewing Company?!

This was the first brewery stop we did while we were in Chicago and I have to say, it kind of ruined it for the rest of them, because with the tour itself and the beer that was available in the taproom, the bar (no pun intended) was set REALLY high.

From their website: Our History: Our famous beer began with a trip across Europe, when Goose Island founder (and unabashed beer lover) John Hall took a tour across the continent. Pint by pint, he savored the styles and selections of brews in every region, and thought to himself, “America deserves some damn fine beer like this, too.” Craft brewing wasn’t widely known at the time, but upon return from his European sojourn, John set out to change all that. He settled down in his hometown of Chicago—a city perfect for craft beer, with rapidly evolving tastes and the largest system of fresh water on the planet. And then he got to brewing. First he made some stellar beer. Then he invited his consumers in to watch his process at the brewery, bringing them behind the scenes every step of the way. The result was a new fascination with craft brewing, and beer that not only catered to people’s tastes, but challenged them as well. That was back in 1988, and we haven’t slowed down since. Our Brewery: Our brewery was built in 1995 and has more than doubled in size since originally built. We bring you our tasty pints using 32 fermenters, over 15 different yeasts, state-of-the-art filters, centrifuges and a 50 barrel JV Northwest 5 vessel system that brews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It turns out that making awesome brews is quite the science. Luckily our brewery facilities have all the equipment necessary to deliver results. Our packaging line alone bottles 500 cases an hour, with our keg line at a rate of 50 kegs every 60 minutes. Once the beer is complete, we store it at a crisp 38 degrees until shipping. In other words, we don’t mess around when it comes to filling the Goose Island demand. We even have separate rooms to house small batch innovation programs and yeast propagation units, and our barrel-aged beers have their own dedicated stockroom AND 143,000 square foot barrel warehouse. It’s only the very best equipment for our beer—and we invite you to learn more. 

Our Hops: Tucked away in a secluded valley in Northern Idaho is Elk Mountain Farms – the place where Goose Island hops are grown and harvested. Head Farmer Ed Atkins shares the same passion and commitment to great beer as our brewers, and together they’ve worked to grow the farm from a 70-acre operation to a 1700-acre hop heaven. Here, over 50 different types of hops, including Goose Island favorites like Saaz, Amarillo and Cascade are cultivated along with numerous experimental varieties that could one day push the boundaries of beer for drinkers and brewers alike. Elk Mountain is more than just soil and plant life; it’s a laboratory, a studio, a blank canvas on which to paint the future of Goose Island beer. 

Our Barrels: In 1992, Goose Island gave the beer industry a new reason to belly up to the bar: bourbon-aged beer. We pioneered the process, and it begins with first-use bourbon barrels. Our brewers only choose those that have had held sweet, sweet whiskey in their bellies for an average of 8 years, then they age our beer inside for 8-12 months. This process takes place in a non-climate controlled space, allowing exposure to the extreme heat and cold of Chicago’s ecosystem, which contracts and expands the wood, pulling the barrel’s whiskey character into our brew. Each barrel is used only once, ensuring the best quality taste in every pint. That first barrel-aging process yielded our ever-tasty Bourbon County Stout back in 2004. Three years later, we decided it was time to expand our barrel-aging program again. But this time our brewers brought wine barrels into the picture. They started with beer that had undergone primary fermentation in stainless steel casks, then transferred it to wine barrels, soaked with flavor. Next came fresh fruit and wild yeasts, and the beginning of a secondary fermentation inside the barrel. Aging went on for 9-18 months, creating beer with unprecedented depth of character, increased acidity and a light essence of fruit without too much sweetness. The variety of wine barrels we use now yield some of our most unique brews, including Sofie, Juliet, Lolita, Madame Rose, Gillian and Halia.

*Fun Fact: Their Bourbon county stout was submitted at the Great American Beer Festival when they first started brewing it and it was disqualified because they didn’t have a category for the percentage of alcohol in that beer (Usually the category topped off at 10% ABV). So basically, Goose Island started the barrel aged beer category at the GABF the next year.

Honkers Ale [English Style Bitter (4.3% ABV/ 30 IBU)]: Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honker’s Ale combines a spicy hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced beer. Immensely drinkable, Honker’s Ale is not only a beer drinkers can trust but one they’ll look forward to.

Limited Releases:

Cooper Project No. 3 [Barrel Aged Porter (8.3% ABV/ (N/A) IBU)]: The Cooper Project is a rotating series of new recipes that highlight Goose Island’s expertise in bourbon barrel-aging. The third release of 2017, this Barrel-Aged Porter, starts life as a rich porter brewed with chocolate maltsand spices that is then barrel-aged for 3 months in fresh bourbon barrels.

Juicy Double [Double IPA (8.3% ABV/ 70 IBU)]: Juicy Double is a crisp Double India Pale Ale brewed with Orange Juice for a refreshing citrus finish.  Brewed with 7 hop varieties, this Imperial India Pale Ale weighs in at 8.3% ABV with an IBU of 70.  The bold hop character is nicely balanced with the citrus from the orange juice.

Keller Marzen [German Lager (6.3% ABV/ (NA) IBU)]: Our brewers traveled overseas to brew this limited release beer with our friends at Spaten Brauerei, the oldest brewery in Munich. It pays tribute to time honored Bavarian brewing traditions of brewing a stronger beer in March, lagering for many months and tapping the unfiltered beer at the end of the summer for Oktoberfest. The result is a smooth, malty and unfiltered golden lager with light, bready sweetness and a delicate German hop character.

Islay Scotch Barrel Stout [Imperial Stout (13.3% ABV/ (NA) IBU)]: Imperial stout aged in Ardbeg Scotch barrels for 15 months. Featured at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beers this weekend and here only (was there the weekend of Nov 9-11). Dense black with a viscous body and smoke and peat notes.

Noel [Belgian Style Dark Ale (9.5% ABV/ 15 IBU)]: In Belgium, Noël beers were released at the end of the year as a special, limited release to thank loyal brewery customers for their support throughout the year. Goose Island Noël is an un-spiced Belgian-style, Dark Ale with balanced notes of caramelized sugar, toasted bread, black cherry, and dried apricot all in a warm, deep-mahogany body. This beer was brewed to celebrate the past year and toast the new year to come. From our brewers to you and yours, cheers and happy holidays.

Vintage Ales:

Sofie [Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale (6.5% ABV/ 20 IBU)]: Our sparkling Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale is wine barrel-aged with an abundance of hand-zested orange peel. Spicy white pepper notes contrast the citrus tartness. The light, refreshing, creamy vanilla finish will excite those fond of Champagne. Originally brewed by Belgian farmers to attract the best farm hands, we were inspired to brew an exceptional ale as inviting as the original Belgian Farmhouse ales. Light and effervescent, we named it for our founder’s granddaughter Sofie.

Juliet [Belgian Style Wild Ale (8.0% ABV/ 15 IBU)]: A tart, jammy, complex ale fermented with wild yeast and aged in wine barrels with fresh blackberries, with notes of wood, tannin, and spice. Inspired by sour beers from the Cantillon Brewery in Belgium, Juliet is a tart, jammy, complex ale fermented with wild yeast and aged in wine barrels with fifty pounds of fresh locally sourced blackberries, with notes of wood, tannin, and spice.

Bourbon County:

Bourbon County Wheat Wine [Wheat Wine (15% ABV/ (NA) IBU)]: Brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at our original Clybourn brewpub.
