1966
This trippy garage rock gem, from my CD collection, is packed with frenetic energy and hypnotic rhythms!
This track embodies the raw, rebellious spirit of garage rock, with a sound that's both electrifying and unfiltered.

* Cast thy burden upon the stone *
1966 Spectacular Garage Beat Psych from Minnesota
their ventures into psychedelia, such as "Cast Thy Burden Upon the Stone," are filled with strange little touches -- the latter melds sitar flourishes and garage punk textures successfully into a compelling whole, with some influences of early Pink Floyd showing up in the second half, totally out of left field.

Today's compilation:
The Best of 60s Rock / Rockin' 60s 1986 / 1987 Garage Rock / Psychedelic Rock / Proto-punk / Blue-Eyed Soul / Pop-Rock / Hard Rock / Acid Rock
Well, if you thought that this would be a well-rounded and thoughtfully put together look back at 60s rock like Priority Records' Best of 50s Rock was, you'd be wrong, because rather than provide a collection of songs that were reflective of all the different strains of rock that had manifested throughout that decade, the label just leaned pretty hard on the adjacent branches of garage and psychedelic rock instead. And while those are two types of rock that are substantial and indispensably integral to those years, they're definitely not fully representative of the decade as a whole.
So with this album, you get a pretty terrific grip of songs, and each of them are a 'highlight,' but given how expansive the scope was for this series' 50s counterpart, this release's overall lack of variety ends up leaving a little bit to be desired.
And Humble Pie's "Hot & Nasty" may be a terrific piece of bluesy boogie rock too, in which Steve Marriott sports his higher-pitched and passionate Rod Stewart-inspired rasp, but it's also a song that actually happens to be from 1972! So, like, what is it even doing on here?! That's like putting The Beatles' "Love Me Do" on a 50s album, man! Do better, Priority!
Highlights:
The Lovin' Spoonful - "Summer in the City" Steppenwolf - "Magic Carpet Ride" Seeds - "Pushin' Too Hard" Count Five - "Psychotic Reaction" Standells - "Dirty Water" Box Tops - "The Letter" Joe Cocker - "Feelin' Alright" Humble Pie - "Hot & Nasty" Blues Magoos - "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" Shocking Blue - "Venus" Blue Cheer - "Summertime Blues" Outsiders - "Time Won't Let Me" Three Dog Night - "Eli's Coming" Monkees - "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone"

Robert & Randy - Good Company
Memphis mid-60s garage beat duo Robert & Randy are under the spotlight: Randy Haspel confirms the details. ROBERT & RANDY – ’Good Company’/’I Won’t Ask Why’ (Holiday Inn Records 2209) Nov 1968 Robert & Randy uncovered. I bought this 45 recently not knowing who it was or what it sounded like, but like all good record collectors followed my hunch and took a chance. Some research followed and I…
