( hoping this doesn't get CC'd for the music lol ) This is a sad video but also a happy one, to celebrate Girl Dog as she was. I love you, Girl Dog, you were the best dog I've ever, ever met. Thank you, for your kindnesses about her, she would have adored every singular one of you.

Blueberry Pancakes
FWB Eddie Munson x reader blurb | ~550 words
+18 ONLY - Minors DNI
It’s not the first time. It’s not even the 20th time. You’ve lost count at this point. It’s a random Tuesday night. The two of you have been playing this game of reaching and grasping for months now. It never gets old. Tonight, though - it feels different. Tonight when you came over, Eddie wasn’t home yet. When you went to the store earlier, you remember what Eddie had said a few weeks ago. It was in passing, but it stuck. Because, even though the two of you were keeping it casual, you wanted to make him feel safe and happy with you.
“It’s hard to remember her sometimes, ya know? I was so little when she died. But when I bite into a blueberry pancake with maple syrup? I’m 6 years old again.”
Eddie gave you his key as a matter of convenience. You both knew that. It didn’t mean what it meant for other people. It just meant that you could let yourself in on the days when he had to stay a little later than normal at the garage. No big deal. You had a little more time to spend in the kitchen. To make some food and share it with him before he took you to his bed. The body needs that fuel, and you both needed to fill up before you chased after those physical connections. It didn’t mean anything more than that.
Blueberries were on sale, and you smiled. Maple syrup was not on sale, but Eddie doesn’t need to know that part. It just evens out at the register, anyway. It’s worth it if it makes him smile. If it makes him feel warm inside. If his tongue reminds him of a time when he felt held and loved. It’s good and right to want that for him. It’s good to serve him in this way. To show him, he’s more than the orgasms he gives you.
He’s everything.
You don’t need to say that to him, you just need to watch the way the bubbles form on the batter. You just need to remember to flip the cakes when they pop, when the blueberries start to ooze their juices into the surrounding batter. You want him to feel held by the smell when he walks in through his front door.
Eddie was quiet while he ate tonight. His eyes closed at the first bite. You watched the way his jaw moved and his eyelashes fluttered as the sweet taste filled his mouth. Later, in his bed where you were surrounded by his smell, he tasted that sweet syrup on your lips.
He brushed his lips against the soft skin of your eyelids, one at a time. He kissed the bridge of your nose while he pushed himself deeper and deeper. He let his forehead rest on yours while he watched the small ways your face showed your pleasure. And he reached. He let himself really see and feel. He breathed you in while your eyes were closed. Every thrust was a question you answered with your open mouthed whines.
He loves you. He loves you. He loves you. He’s telling you with every brush of his lips, every reaching thrust of his hips. Every taste of that sweet mixture of fresh blueberries and maple syrup on your lips. You are his.
Tomorrow, he’s making your favorite.

Tumblr media
Ethan’s cock is hot and heavy inside you as he fucks your needy cunt with an aching rage. Your nails are digging into his back, small whimpers slipping from your lips as his teeth bite down on your jugular. His hips cant into you at an incredible pace.
It’s been two days. Maybe three, you haven’t really been counting with how much Ethan has been shoving his cock into any hole on your body that exposes itself to him. He’s taking his anger directed towards his dad out onto you, while Chad watches.
Sure, Chad likes watching you get fucked; there’s no doubt about that. But the way Ethan has been touching you for this long is almost starting to concern him. But he knows he can get this way sometimes. Sometimes Ethan gets the need to blow off steam. After high school the once nerdy guy Chad used to be friends with is now a mean sex fiend.
Not that the other can talk, though. Because he’s been going along with it too, cock flush in his hand while he towers over your face and let’s it rub along the expanse of your kiss bitten lips, his abdomen clenched tight with the ache to release. His apartment is hot today, the summer heat reaching a high of ninety eight degrees. It’s a wonder none of you have passed out yet, even with the a/c running. Sweat drips down Ethan’s neck as he pounds you. Your eyes look up at the both of them, pupils dilated and streaming tears. Ethan’s thumbs move to the corners of your mouth and roughly pull them apart to expose the whites of your teeth.
“Good fucking girl. Yeah, open that mouth wide.” Hes demanding, and you can’t say no as you move your mouth open wider. He grins, his spit landing on your tongue and making your eyes roll back. “You fucking slut. This is all your good for, isn’t it? Being used as a little sex doll. That’s your place now, right? Can’t go anywhere, staying in this fucking bed being our fucking sex slave.”
You nod, fucked out and desperate; you’ve came more times than you can count since Ethan had decided to crash on Chad’s couch and you had showed up. Of course you took breaks, but… that wasn’t too far off from them just doing it so you wouldn’t faint or die from dehydration.
“You wanna taste my cum, bunny?” Chad’s voice growls out. He’s close, hands rubbing against his tip in just the right spot. Your tongue peeks out as you close your eyes and wait for his seed to hit you. And when it does, salty and bitter against your taste buds, Ethan lets out a loud animalistic groan and dumps his third load of the day into you. Your worn, body feeling incredibly hot and used. You’re too fucked out for another orgasm.
“Are you done?” You ask quietly, as Ethan pulls out of your abused cunt. He nods, fingers coming up to run across your jaw and tickle the tips of your ears. Chad moves to lay beside the both of you, his hands going to wrap around your wrist as a form of comfort.
“Yeah, baby. We’re done. C’mere, you have to rest.”
“Can we get McDonald’s after this?”
“Of course, sweetheart.” Chad cuts in. “Anything you want.”
“I don’t know,” Ethan jokes. “She has her belly full now, doesn’t she?”
Chad grimaces. “Shut up, dude. That’s gross.”
“You literally swallowed my cum two days ago.”
“Yeah, because you held my head down —“
“You would’ve swallowed it anyway!”
A smile plasters on your face at their antics, and your eyes begin to close as the two boys wrap their arms around you.
Ethan watches the outline of your jaw, your soft neck littered with hickeys and bruises. And then to Chad, who’s hands gently graze his as they rest on your tummy. He smiles.
It’s almost perfect, this way. Chad has a job, Ethan’s working on getting one, and you… you’re here, and you’re perfect and you’re beautiful and—
Ethan is so mad.
It’s almost perfect— but there’s a problem. Of course there is, why fucking wouldn’t there be?
You still live in your parent’s house, after all.
Oh, you could move if you could. You could live with Chad, with Ethan, make things the way you want them to— but your mother is demanding. Threatening to cut off your college tuition money if you left was the part that had made you stay. Even after they accused Ethan of being a perverted freak of a person, after saying you were ‘too innocent’ and ‘too young’ to know what he was doing (you and Ethan are only two years apart).
So after they had left for an emergency business venture you knew where you could go. They told you not to, but it’s not like they’d figure it out. And being locked in your room was really starting to bore you.
Ethan’s blood has been boiling since the night you got caught. He wishes he could give you the money for your college, wishes he could give you the entire fucking world. But that doesn’t work on Chad’s salary and probably won’t work on the one Ethan’s about to have.
He wants you and Chad to only be with him.
That may sound selfish, but Ethan isn’t known for being necessarily generous. He wants the entire world to be cut off from the both of you, wants the only thing you both see to be him. Ethan could tear the world apart limb from limb just to have you and Chad forever.
It’s really starting to fuck with him.
Ethan is starting to scare you a little bit.
It’s not the sex— well, it is a little bit, but you enjoy it. He’s just been so.. out of it, recently.
Not in the sense of ‘he’s losing feelings’ or anything like that. It’s when he gets this look in his eyes. Sometimes when he thinks no else is looking, when those doe eyed things go dark and he seems like he’s thinking of doing something he shouldn’t. You don’t know what it is, exactly. But he looks so far off— as if he’s somewhere else. And he’s become more violent; in sex, in the way he holds you down and then holds Chad down the same way. It’s confusing.
And it’s also making you a bit nervous.
Chad doesn’t seem any different, at least from what you can tell. He’s still his same soft self— outside of sex, of course. He takes Ethan’s behavior in stride (and with a little bit of prep). But you can tell that he notices, too.
“I just think that you should drop out.”
Ethan’s voice is blaring with a twinge of annoyance, as he drives you back to your house. You told him he shouldn’t, that it’s too risky. But he won’t listen. You also know that when he says ‘drop out’ he actually means ‘leave our parents and be with me.’
You roll your eyes, hands going down to adjust your pink sundress.
“I can’t just drop out, Ethan. I have a career I’m set on.”
“We can make it work—“
“Don’t be stupid.” You mutter. His hands tap against the steering wheel impatiently, face turned up into one of anger. His blue shirt clings to him tightly, muscles are prominent.
“Don’t talk to me like that.” He snaps.
“Don’t make dumb suggestions.”
After that snide comment he shoves you into the house and bends you over the kitchen counter, regardless of your protests, like he did the first time. And then he left you with cum dripping all down your legs, while you waited for your parents to get home from their trip.
When they did you decided to not eat dinner that night.
Your mom has been on the fence since your secret had been revealed to the Landry household. Ethan — your stepbrother — has been fucking you for months.
You still remember the sound of Wayne’s voice screaming at the both of you:
“How could you do this?! After everything we’ve done for the both of you?!”
“You’re a disappointment to me, Ethan. I want you out!”
And then after, when Ethan had left, the words spewed at you.
“I can’t believe you would be such a whore.”
“How could you do this to our family? To me?!”
“You’re never seeing him again.”
Yeah, right.
You sigh, plopping down onto your bed. It’s almost time for you to go to college, the summer ending.
What a wild story you could tell if you had an essay due about your summer.
Your parents are downstairs, now. Doing— you don’t really know what they’re doing. You don’t come down from your room anymore.
A text dings on your phone. You smile.
E🫶🏻: you okay?
me: mhm
You pause. You bite your lip as you assemble to next message.
me: I miss u :)
A moment for him to reply.
E🫶🏻: I miss you too, bunny
E🫶🏻: chad said he misses you too
me: I miss u both >:(
me: we’ll see each other more when I’m away at college tho <3
E🫶🏻 : maybe I have a way to make us be with each other all the time :)
me: oh yeah lover boy? And what would that be
E🫶🏻: you’ll see.
Your brows furrow. A surprise, maybe? A gift? Maybe a new way for you to sneak out…
You don’t know. But your eyes are beginning to become heavy and sleepy; you tell him and Chad both good night and begin to sleep.
Your dreams have become nightmares, more or less. Images of blood and gore, a hand holding on a little too tight — it’s been the same for the past few nights. Your family, slaughtered.
A loud crash makes your eyelids flutter open.
You think you’ve only been asleep a few hours. Your hello kitty clock reads 2:37 a.m in giant bold letters, and your heart beats harshly against your chest at the sudden sound. Furrowing your brows, but being cautious, you grab the pink pocket knife you kept beside your bed. It isn’t much, but it’s something, at least. Creeping closer to the door you can hear that the noise has stopped— but that doesn’t calm you. You think of waking up your parents but you don’t want to make them any more mad than they already are.
You open your door. No one is outside your room, it seems. The sound must’ve come from downstairs. Creeping down the wooden steps you go into the living room and see that it’s empty.
Except for the window.
The one near the couch is wide open, and you can see that a house plant beside it got knocked over and broke all to pieces. You gulp, hands gripping the knife tighter. Your dreams have made you extremely paranoid, and if there really is an intruder, you won’t go down without a fight.
Another crash— from the kitchen this time, but not as loud as before. It was more of just.. commotion. You prepare yourself, breath heavy. You make your way to the doorway, prepared to strike and stab and hit….
Someone grabs you.
The knife clatters to the ground. So much for protecting yourself! Your immediate thought is to scream, but no words come out and a hand is covering your mouth. When they whirl you around and begin laughing your brows furrow and hot tears well up from the stress.
….It’s fucking Ethan.
He’s standing there, a shit eating grin on his face, wearing a muscle tee and jeans.
You sneer, pushing him harshly as you wipe your eyes.
“You fucking asshole!” you whisper yell. “You scared the fuck out of me! What the hell is wrong with you?”
He chuckles. “Sorry, sweetness. It’s just so funny to see the look on your face.”
You sniffle, crossing your arms and willing yourself not to cry anymore. “‘S not funny.”
Ethan’s smile drops, his hands reaching out wrap you into a hug. “I’m sorry. I won’t do it again, promise.”
He doesn’t seem that sorry, but you drop the subject.
“You literally broke in, Ethan. What if mom and dad wake up? You’ll be in so much trouble, i swear— they’ll call the fucking police on you—”
Your words stop when he turns his back to you, stalks into the kitchen, and begins rummaging through the house’s well renowned junk drawer.
“Calm down, baby. I just needed to get my watch. I forgot it before I moved… aha! There it is!”
He excitedly turns around and shows you the black and red band. He slips it around his wrist. You roll your eyes, and scoff.
“You broke into the house so you could take a watch?”
He gives you a mischievous look. He moves closer to you and his lips graze yours. You can’t help but smile.
“Maybe I came to take something else with me, too.”
You bite your lip, but your eyes go to the stairs.
“We can’t do that here. We’ll get caught.”
“Suit yourself, then,” Ethan quips. He sighs dramatically. “I guess I’ll just be on my way then..”
“No!” Your immediate to keep him here. To keep him with you. You aren’t the same without his company.
He smiles, lips grazing your neck. His teeth scrape against it and you admire the sting. “There’s my good girl.”
You kiss him, harsh. He tastes fresh and sweet. His hands find your waist and he pushes you against the kitchen counter. You whine, your hands reaching for the bulge in his pants— but your wrist hits his pocket and you feel something inside of it. You reach in, playful. But when you pull it out, it’s the pocket knife you dropped earlier. He must’ve picked it up when you weren’t looking.
“Why do you need my knife?” You ask, as his lips peck your chin and jawline. He looks down, at it in your hands, white teeth shining as he smiles.
“Maybe I like to have a part of you with me wherever I go.”
It’s endearing. But this feeling settles in your stomach— something you can’t quite place. However, you slide the blade back into his pocket and begin to kiss him again. His fingers are right there, just about to brush over your clit.
And out of the corner of your eye, you see the upstairs light flicker on.
You panic, lips breaking away from Ethan’s as you hear footsteps. You’ve lived long enough in the house to know who’s it is— it’s your mother’s. Your eyes widen.
“Hide!”
Ethan mouths the words oh shit before running into the living room. You pray he finds a decent hiding spot. Your mom comes down the stairs, in her robe and with messy hair. She seems like she’s just woken up.
“Is there someone else down here with you?” She says, confused.
You shake your head, nervously biting your thumbnail.
“No, mom. No one is down here. It’s just me.”
“Huh.”
She looks around and she walks into the living room. You follow her in fear, and when you catch Ethan’s sneakers underneath the window curtain you almost fucking scream in frustration. Your mother is too busy looking at her broken plant and the opened window for her to notice.
“Oh my god! Did someone break in?” She exclaims. Your heart beats rapidly.
“Uhm— no!” You say, exasperated and lying.
You try your best to think up a good fake story. “I slept-walked again, i think. I’ve been meaning to tell you… it’s been a while but I think it’s starting up again.”
You haven’t slept-walked since you were twelve. Your mom sighs, annoyed.
“Shit. I’ll call the doctor in the morning, then. We’ll see if he can find anything for it. Because if it’s to the point where you’re breaking things and opening windows..”
“—That’s not necessary, mom, really.”
“I’m calling them, y/n.” She states. She looks you up and down for a moment. If you don’t know any better you think a look of disgust is on her face. “For once in your life, please make yourself useful and clean this up.”
Your head hangs down, and you bite your lower lip to keep from snapping at her. “Yes ma’am.”
When she goes back up stairs, Ethan comes out of his hiding spot. You breathe out a sigh of relief, but Ethan’s fists are clenched.
“She shouldn’t talk to you like that.” He says.
You shrug, threading your fingers through his. His curls are sticking to his forehead, cheeks flushed. He’s absolutely precious, even when he’s angry.
“Doesn’t matter, E. Forget about it.”
He narrows his eyes at the stairs, as if she was standing there and he could see her. Your thoughts go back to the knife and you get that feeling again. But your lips are back on his in an instant and it seems that Ethan quickly forgets his rage. His hand rests on the back of your head as he tries to drag you to the couch. But you shake your head and giggle.
“Not here. I’m not getting caught fucking you again.”
“Technically, we weren’t fucking.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Still.”
So you drag him up the stairs. It’s scary, because your parents are also up there, but at least you’re both better concealed. He fucks you raw on the bed and chokes you with his incredibly toned arms. And then he lays with you and you both smoke a joint out the window so it doesn’t smell.
But even then, and even after he left, your thoughts still linger on the knife he had taken with him.

.  . • ☆ . ° .• °:. *₊ ° . ☆.
fingers tease the ends of your hair, taehyung tugging gently.
he lays on his side beside you, head propped up by his hand as he stares at your sleep stricken face. ever so peaceful, fragile and delicate, warm, entirely unaware of the world around you.
though he supposes even when you’re awake, he doesn’t leave much room for your mind to wander.
a man having tamed the devil herself.
filing down sharp edges and dissolving her poisonous touch until you’d become nothing but soft, warm, pretty gooeyness. tooth rotting sweetness. a heart wrenching loveable being hidden in human form.
tucked away from people. tucked away from civilisation, kept between the walls of the cottage with everything you ask for.
your own crafted paradise, taehyung the creator of your world. the pinnacle of your mind, the core of every thought and feeling.
your life solely his to keep, held in calloused hands, stained in the blood of hundreds. though those lives of everyone who passed, had a new purpose. the purpose of feeding you— taehyung’s only reason to live.
to keep you alive. happy and alive.
<3
you briefly register the ghost of a touch over your cheek, a loose strand of hair tucked behind your ear before warm, soft, lips press over the supple skin of your neck.
you turn, sheets tangled around your waist, noise of question catching in your throat as you slowly slip into consciousness. a gentle slide into the waking world.
“sweet dove” taehyung murmurs against your skin, pressing a kiss to your bare shoulder.
goosebumps prickle the skin of his arms as the scent of you sinks into his pores, the taste of you dancing across his tongue.
“hmm” you tug the blanket up higher, knees curling into your chest. utter warmth surrounding you.
he coos, “my little dove, i have breakfast for you”
you breathe out a long sigh, hands blindly reaching out for him, fingers pressing over his chest, trailing up his arms until your reach his neck, deft fingers curling around the necklace that dangles over his collarbones. your initials locked around his neck. a forever promise that he will never take off.
“can’t you smell it?” he brushes a knuckle down the line of your jaw, “i thought you’d enjoy it warm today… got too cold on the way home”
you peek an eye open, tongue wetting your bottom lip.
“you were gone all night” you croak, trying to pull him closer. quick to throw the blanket over his body to keep the warmth in.
“and how would you know that” he hums, “what time did you go to bed?”
you press your face into the pillow, words muffled, eyes slipping closed, ready for you to slip back into your own little dream world.
“i asked you a question, dove” he presses, arms slipping around your waist.
“6” you mutter.
“A.M. i assume” he presses on.
“mmhmm” you nod, “my gaming console died and i couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed to get the charger…”
a low rumble of laughter vibrates his chest.
“breakfast, then, i’ll tuck you back into bed for a nap. how about it?”
your eyes peel open, “okay” you nod, hands fumbling around under the blanket, looking for his hand.
your fingers wrap around his wrist, bringing it up to your face. you sniff, nose scrunching up at the onslaught of smells. apparent why’d he been gone so many hours of the night. because no matter how much he scrubbed his hands after, the sweet tickling scent of blood will never be missed by you.
“how many?” you wonder, and he smiles a toothy grin.
“enough to last you the week… that’s why i was gone for so long” he leans down, gentle kiss presses to your cheek in apology.
you sigh, leaning your cheek into his open palm “i missed you”
“oh darling” he croons, pulling you closer, face pressed against his chest.
you can feel the steady beat of his heart, the gentle rush of blood slipping through his veins.
“i think i may have missed you more” he whispers, words sweet like nectar as they drip off his tongue, “but i’m here now, just like how it should be”
“and you won’t leave?” you murmur, fingers grasping at his shirt.
“never”
“promise?” you swallow.
“you are my life” his fingers slip into your hair, tugging your head upwards to look at him, “we are forever. there is no end to us until the day our bodies decay, and even then you will never get rid of me. i am yours for eternity”
you nod, smile tugging at the corners of your lips “okay. what if i wanted to travel”
“then i’d follow” his answer is quick, no hesitation.
“and if i wanted to get married?”
“i am all yours”
your fingers skim over his cheek, “what if i wanted the stars?”
at this, he smiles, “i would venture far into the galaxy to pick you the most perfect stars, and name a constellation after you on the way”
“i would want to come with you” you tell him.
his fingers rake through your hair “i wouldn’t ever leave you behind”
you look up at him, silence stretching out between the both of you.
“what about—“ you start, though taehyung’s boisterous laughter cuts you off.
“anything. anything you ask for, it is yours. but first you need to eat, my little dove”
he peels the blanket off the both of you, whine of protest bubbling up your throat as the cool air of the bedroom caresses your skin.
“poor thing” he frowns, arms wrapping around you, pulling you up and off the mattress, “i’ll put the fire on while we eat” he hums, footsteps heavy as he trudges down the stairs, your arms wrapped around his neck
“hold on for a moment” he tells you, hoisting you up a little higher as he pulls out your chair at the dining table. gentle as he sits you down.
your bare feet touch the cold tiles, recoiling to press against your chest.
taehyung scuttles out of the kitchen, quick to grab you, your favourite blanket from the couch, wrapping it around your shoulders as he flitters around the kitchen.
your gaze wanders, eyes catching sight of the outside world. the vast forest seems never ending, darkness lurking just beyond the safety of the house.
“we can go out for a walk later if you like?” taehyung hums, “i have a new coat for you to try”
you turn to look at him, voice soft “i’m okay, thank you though”
he looks over his shoulder at you, holding eye contact. you feel your breath catch in your throat.
he tilts his head, turning back to the pan on the stove, “alright. tell me if you change your mind”
it’s only second after that he’s turning back to you, plate in hand.
you look at the heart, perfectly seared, puddle of blood still coating the plate even though cooked.
“let me know what you think” he smiles, taking the seat opposite yours.
you don’t bother with cutlery, fingers digging into the muscle, wet squelch of blood dripping down your palm, ever so warm. the tantalising smell of it enough to have yourself hungry.
“thank you” you look up at taehyung with a smile, and he simply grins, motioning for you to eat.
you bring the human heart up to your lips, tongue pressing against the muscle before your teeth sink into it.
you chew at it, molars tearing at the meat, swallowing down the metallic blood as it coats your tastebuds.
your fingers tighten around the heart. frown slowly pulling at taehyung’s lips, noticing how your cheeks don’t go rosy, he can tell your bloodlust is not nearly sated.
you drop the heart back onto the plate, not bothering that blood splatters onto the tablecloth.
“what’s wrong?” taehyung stands, taking the plate from in front of you.
“not good” you look up at him, bottom lip pulling into a pout.
“my dove” he kneels down before you, hand running over your cheek, “here—“ he stars, standing.
he moves towards the freezer, pulling the door open, then tugging the biggest drawer open.
“pick which one smells the tastiest, yeah?” he motions for you to look. freezer packed with individually wrapped hearts, the smallest shelf saved for his own meals.
“then i’ll cook you a nice breakfast, better this time” he starts, “then we can stay in bed for as long as you like, yeah?”
you nod at him, from still pulling at your lips, “please”
he smiles.
“i want something sweet for breakfast” you tell him, “something younger than the old piece of shit i just had”
“i should have known you wouldn’t like him… he was more my own indulgence than your dinner” he admits, “horrible man” it comes out barely above a whisper.
“taehyung” you call out to him as he rummages through the drawers.
he perks up, “yes, dove?”
“i love you”
and he can’t help the grim that stretches his cheeks, heart beating rapidly, locked away in his ribcage though so close to bursting through his skin. a heart full of awfully delicious love, ready for you to consume.
“and yet, i might love you more” he tells you.

Heeseung hoped the traitors had no clue he was awake and had Jay communicate down the bond for everyone to meet in secret and quickly. Thankfully the traitor’s power of reading what is said down bonds only works when they are near everyone.
And Heeseung knew exactly where they were.
Everyone was already waiting when Jay and Heeseung arrived, the queen was pacing back and forth in the small cellar room, stopping in her tracks to see Heeseung awake and alive.
“Oh, Hee!” she cried, rushing to her husband and embracing him in her arms, tears streaming down her face, “Don’t ever scare me like that again!”
Heeseung pulled his mate back and cupped her face, kissing her tenderly, “I’m so sorry baby,” he whispered after pulling his lips from hers.
You quickly ran to Jay’s side, his arms already opening to embrace you, “What happened with Lilly?”
Jay glanced at the king and you followed his eyes, seeing the blood that stained his face. Heeseung killed her.
“They were going to kill her anyways,” the king mumbled, pulling his mate to his side and standing up straighter, “If we kept her alive her enemies would have continued fighting us,” he looked at every single person in the room, “We need to get our kids back.”
The witch fumbled with the rings on her fingers, “What do you suggest we do? The traitors have them and will cut communications between the twelve—thirteen including Archer—of us off the minute we confront them.”
Sunghoon took her fidgeting hands in his, rubbing thumbs over her palms in hopes of calming her down, “We will get them back,” he promised, “There’s thirteen of us, we are unstoppable.”
Heeseung agreed, “The traitors only have a small circle, the rest of the royal guard follows me.”
“And how are you so sure?” Archer said as he kept his arms crossed and leaned against the wall, “From what Jay said down the bond and word passed to me, they have been watching your every move. How are we so sure they aren’t playing both sides to deceive you in the end?”
“Archer!” his twin sister snapped, “Do you have doubts about his words?”
“Hey, now,” Jake said, pulling her to him, “Baby, let’s not assume everything, okay?”
Archer just shrugs, “Heeseung, I am on your side, always. But I don’t want to step out of this room and be blindsided.”
The room fell silent and all eyes were on the king.
“Want to know how we know?” Jungwon spoke up, stepping up beside the king, “As the second in command, I did digging. Watching when everyone thought I wasn’t.”
Jungwon’s mate whistled, “Leader, second in command, and a spy? What can’t you do?”
Jungwon just smirks at her then continues talking, “It wasn’t hard to figure out who was and wasn’t with us.”
Jay furrowed his brows, hand squeezing tighter at your hip, “So you knew this entire time along with Heeseung and never said anything?!”
Both Heeseung and Jungwon slightly looked at him, their faces filled with guilt and regret.
“I told you,” Heeseung sighed, “I had people up my ass twenty-four-seven, it was kind of hard to give out any information.”
“When Heeseung first suspected a traitor and that our bond was being cut, he wrote it out to me on a paper secretly, and we started to test it out,” Jungwon held Jay’s stare, “It didn’t take long to figure out this person had that kind of power.”
“If I could have told you all,” Heeseung said, looking every person in his pack in the eyes, “I would have the minute I knew.”
“We understand,” Sunoo nodded, “Just tell us what we can do to get Niki and __ back and end this war.”
Heeseung nodded. This wouldn’t be an easy fight, some would get hurt, but in the end, once it was over, it would be all worth it.
The witch will keep hold in the cellar with her magical items to search where they are keeping the kids while the elf will be at her side and holding up a barrier of protection on everyone, she wouldn’t be able to hold it for long, so the window for the rest to end the traitors was small, every second counted.
Archer and his twin sister will be at the rear, since they are skilled with bows and arrows, they will use their weapons to support at the back.
Jake and Sunghoon will be a unit off to the left of Jay and Heeseung, and the queen, while Jungwon and Sunoo are to the right.
You and Jungwon’s mate were to be in the middle. With her electricity powers, the witch gave her the crystal that suppressed a fraction of her power inside it and was told to only break it if needed. She was also given a crystal to amplify the power. She was a walking unit of her own. Considering the fact Jungwon was the one who turned her and he was already a unit himself, it only made sense she would be just as powerful as him.
But you? You felt helpless. Sure you had super speed and vampire strength and were able to learn how to dual wield some daggers, but you had nothing else to bring to the table. You were surrounded by powerful beings. Each of them had something so special, so many gifts.
Jay stood at Heeseung’s side, listening carefully to the plan he had in mind. His eyes drifted to you, taking notice of how you backed yourself away from the group and stared down at the floor. He could read it all over your face, the way you were doubting yourself.
Jay stepped back, “YN,” he softly said, his fingers twisting themselves with yours, “What are you thinking?”
You kept your gaze down on his boots, “I can’t help, not the way I want to.”
His hands were now cupping your face and lifting it up to look at him, “Why are you talking this nonsense?”
You cupped your hands over his, “Dorian almost killed me,” Jay winced at the memory of seeing Dorian push you off that cliff, watching your body fall into the water, remembering how pale you looked, and how cold your body was. He hated remembering it. Hated Dorian for what he did to you and gave you the scar he did until it thankfully went away after Jay turned you, “What makes me think I could be strong enough to fight this enemy when I was powerless against Dorian?”
Jay pinched your cheeks, “Don’t talk like that!” he softly hissed, “You were human when Dorian…” Jay sighs and shakes his head, “You’re stronger now, powerful in your own way. I’ve seen you use those daggers. Baby, you’re so strong.”
You wanted to believe him. Truly wanted to believe him.
Jay rubbed his thumbs against your cheekbones, “I love you,” he placed a kiss on your forehead, “So goddamn much it drives me insane.”
Jay wished he could give you the confidence you were looking for. But he’s still how you fight, the drive you have, and even how stubborn you are. You’ve made a fine vampire and will continue to be a great one. He just wants you to see it.
“Jay,” Heeseung called him back over, “You and YN get back over here, it’s almost time.”
Jay quickly pressed a couple of kisses to your lips and pulled you back towards the group. He’ll do everything in his power to get you to see how amazing and strong you are.
Everyone walked to the lobby. Sunoo’s elf already started the protection barrier and Sunghoon’s mate sat in the cellar surrounded by her magic items and drew out a circle on the floor to look for the kids.
Heeseung leads the pack, quickly stopping and holding his arm out.
“You’re awake, my king,” E said with a smile, “Welcome back.”
Heeseung tilted his head, not saying a word.
E chuckled, “I’m assuming you had fun with our Lilly,” he held his arms behind his back, “I can smell her blood that’s still plastered over your face and clothes.”
Heeseung was the one smirking now, feeling her now dried and crusted blood cracking against his skin, “She welcomed it. Should have seen the look she gave me, begging me to kill her.”
E hummed, “It’s better this way, she tried to kill you after all,” Jay scoffed, causing E’s eyes to shift to him, “I suggest you watch your tone, false king.”
Jay took a step in front of Heeseung, “Or what?”
“Jay, stop!” you tried to shout down the bond, only for it to not reach him. Your hands trembled, this was it. Everything was about to start.
The queen stood a bit behind Heeseung, her eyes glowing crimson, “You will not speak to him that way.”
E tilted his head, eyes glaring at her.
Before any more could be said, M came running from the side room, “Oh King Heeseung!” she shouted, “You’re awake! Oh good heavens—“
Jungwon moved fast, his hands gripping the side of her face and twisting it, the crack echoing in the lobby. Jake and Sunghoon were at his sides, grabbing a hold of her arms and pulling, the limbs detaching from her body and Jungwon pulling his blade out and cutting deep into her throat, pushing through until her head was no longer attached to her body. Blood spilled across all three men’s faces and clothes, dropping M’s body to the floor.
E stood up straighter, gripping his hands tightly, eyes flickering crimson, “Now, was that so necessary?”
Heeseung laughed, his blades appearing in his hands as he pointed one at E, “You don’t take me for a fool, do you? I know you cut off our bond and she could read anything that was said down it,” Heeseung tilted his head to the other side and down, eyes piercing into E, “I caught along a long time ago, traitors.”
The only sound that could be heard was E’s laughter echoing the castle. You clenched your hands into fists, anger boiling your blood as seeing the man who was supposed to help protect the king, laugh his ass off.
“I knew you were a good one,” he said, starting to walk back and forth in a pacing manner, “I’ve told you that since the beginning.”
Heeseung narrowed his eyes, remembering all that time ago when E told him he knew Heeseung would be king and make a fine one. But nothing made sense, not when E wanted him dead.
“Spill,” Jay snapped, his own weapons appearing, “We aren’t playing these mind games anymore!”
E stopped pacing and glared at your mate, “Lilly told you everything.” Jay snarled at him, and E just chuckled, “It’s all true. I want Heeseung fucking dead!”
The rest of the males pulled their weapons free, inching themselves closer to their king.
“Looks like you’ve failed, obviously,” Heeseung smirked, “Your pons kind of suck.”
“Dorian was trial and error,” E waved off, “I had faith but not a lot. And Lilly? She was so close yet so far.”
“Why?” the queen snapped, “What did Heeseung do to you to deserve this?!”
E smiled, “Why my dear queen,” he leaned forward, “He killed the king. That’s the whole problem.”
Your body tensed, E was pissed off that Heeseung killed the previous king??
E continued his pacing, “I had a plan, you see, to take out the previous king so I can finally have the throne. But then poor, poor Heeseung’s dear friend had to act out and get murdered by the king.”
Heeseung gritted his teeth, “Don’t speak of Alannah like that!”
E ignored Heeseung’s outburst and continued, “As I’ve said before, you’ve had a fire burning in you the moment the previous king dragged your ass in here, so ready for a war that hadn’t happened.”
The queen placed a hand on her mate's forearm, hoping to keep him calm.
E continued, “I had everything lined up perfectly on how I would kill the king and take the throne. I didn’t even want to change how he was doing things around here,” E stopped pacing and looked Heeseung deep in the eyes, “I just wanted to be king.”
Jay was gritting his teeth and clenching his hands, E didn’t give a shit about making changes around here. He wanted to rule. Jay, Jake, and Heeseung went through hell and back and more because of the previous king and all E wanted to do was continue that pain and suffering. Jake was also clenching his fists tightly, Sunghoon inching himself closer to his best friend.
“But you,” E pointed at Heeseung, “You just had to get angry over Alannah’s death and take revenge that night. I watched you steal from the armory and make your way to the study. I watched the fire set ablaze in your eyes as you sliced his neck and severed his head from his body,” E was now clenching his jaw, “It was too late to stop you after you tossed his damn head into the fireplace and dragged his body out to the yard. I do have to say, it was a powerful move on your end to make it a public execution of the remainder of his body.”
Jay glanced over at Heeseung, the memory of barely running out of the castle with Jake at his side to see Heeseung tossing the remnants of the previous king’s body into the fire. Watching the power transfer to Heeseung and seeing the change of his crimson eyes burning their gold. It was the start of the three of them escaping this place and never looking back until now.
“It was hard to track you down after the three of you escaped,” E continued with a shrug, “But once I found you and saw you created a pack,” he sighed, “I had to create an army myself to take you out.”
Heeseung was now laughing, throwing his head back and letting out an exhale. He flung his head back forward, eyes now golden, “Where are my kids?”
E chuckled, “I poured my heart out and this is what you have to say?”
Heeseung’s fangs grew to their point and Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, the queen, __, and yourself all let your eyes glow crimson, feeling the power Heeseung was radiating and passing on between everyone. Archer and __’s bows drew back, E only being able to see their crimson eyes from the distance they were in.
“I’ll ask one more time,” Heeseung warned, “Where is Niki and __?”
E just smirked.
A small sparkle of light came into view and stopped in front of Heeseung. Sunghoon smirked, “My mate found them.”
E’s smirk dropped, his body tensing and preparing for what was to come. Heeseung’s smirk at the globe of light and the way his eyes flickered to E told him everything. War was officially about to be unleashed. With a whip of his hand, he signaled for his army to come to his aid, Heeseung and the rest of the pack were already on the move towards him.
They knew where their kids were and now it was time to end this.
Heeseung shifted to make a move at E, but he blocked it. But Heeseung didn’t stop. Shoving his body fully against the courtier and breaking through the doors of the castle, the night sky came into their view.
The rest of the pack ran right behind them. E’s army surrounds them.
“I love you,” Jay said down the bond to you. Your heart raced. E must have been caught so off guard he dropped his powers for enough time.
“I love you, too,” you said back, and you could feel the smile Jay had even with you running behind him.
“Let’s fucking end thi—“ Heeseung barely was able to say down the bond before E cut it back off. Now shoving Heeseung off him and jumping away, pulling his sword out of thin air.
The males surrounded E, arrows flying left and right from the dhampir and Archer, targeting E’s army. Jungwon’s mate was quick to break both crystals, her electricity flowed throughout her body, the yellow aura radiating around her as she sped through the army, sending shockwaves their way.
The army on Heeseung’s side finally showed up, helping you all take care of the others.
You held your own against the enemy, dodging and turning just how you were taught in training, how Jay showed you. You could feel his hands against your skin as he showed you how to use the daggers, and how he moved your body. It replayed like fire on your skin as you shoved the dagger into the enemy’s chest, using the other to cut through his neck, taking his head clean off and his blood coating your face and clothes.
Your eyes burned their crimson as you continued to fight your way through E’s army with the help of __ electrocuting them as she went. You rush right behind her. Jay’s words of encouragement from earlier spun around in your head like a web, you weren’t useless. You are powerful in your own way and the way you played the battlefield was proof.
Jay and Heeseung tagged teamed E, taking turns rushing him back to back to not let him have any time to think or react. And the time either of them failed to make a move, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, or Jungwon made up for it. E was strong, a lot stronger than what Lilly was. Which made sense considering E has been alive a lot longer than all the boys combined. His stamina and speed were like nothing Jay had ever gone up against. Same with the other males. E recovered and healed fast, making it harder to take him down. Along with the army of his that was attacking at the same time, this seemed impossible.
With their communications down and not being able to coordinate when to strike, this fight was going to drag out longer than they wanted.
Jay gritted his teeth as he lashed forward, swinging his blades quickly, but E moved just as fast, shielding himself with his arms and Jay’s blade slashing through them.
No moves were working. No amount of swinging their blades worked. The males grew tired and the lack of not being able to drink blood before this fight was starting to wear them down.
All six males had injuries. Their breaths are uneven. Arrows stopped flying across the sky signaling that Archer and __ were out.
They surrounded E, circling him and catching their breaths. E just chuckled, “Have had enough yet?”
Jay locked his jaw tighter, twirling his blades, “When are you going to give up?”
E laughed, shooting his eyes over to Heeseung, “Not until he’s dead and I’m king!”
You and Jungwon’s mate finished off a circle of enemies, looking over to the boys, “They need blood,” you said, eyes scanning your mate up and down, seeing the exhaustion weighing him down.
She nods, voice shaking, “I don’t know what to do…”
A sparkle of light came into both of your views, it flickering, “Go to them quickly,” the witch whispered through the orb, “E has more of his army coming. The boys need blood. Now.”
“How—“ __ started to say.
“Your blood. You both may be vampires, but your blood is still very much human circulating your veins until it exceeds out.”
“What about you, __ and __?? Sunghoon, Jake, and Sunoo will need blood too!” you quickly said, worried about your other pack members.
A chuckle came from the orb, “Don’t worry, it’s all handled.”
You and Jungwon’s mate looked at each other quickly then back at the orb, seeing it disappear.
You then see Jake’s mate running towards you, Archer, the witch, elf, Niki, and his mate right behind them. You could have cried from happiness. The whole pack was here together. They could end this right now.
You ran with the others, “Do the boys know?”
The witch smiled, sweat dripping down her face, “More and then some. My magic is running out, I have only so much left. But everything is coming to plan.”
You didn’t question it, just nodding and rushing to your mate.
E’s smirk dropped seeing Niki and his mate join in, and then frowned seeing each female stand by their mate.
“What are you plotting?!” he snapped, eyeing down Heeseung as the queen pressed her back to her king’s chest.
“What?” Heeseung smirked, wrapping his hand to the front of his mate's neck and tilting her head to the side, exposing her neck and leaning down, “You think we don’t have anyways to communicate?”
E whipped his head around to Sunghoon and the witch, smirked lined both their faces as Sunghoon’s hand tilted his mate's head to the side, his fangs coming to a point, “We always find a way,” he said, then sank his teeth into his mate's neck, her lips parting from the pressure of his fangs digging in, his free hand gripping her waist as he sucked in her blood.
Jay pressed your back to his chest, one hand on your jaw and the other on your hip. His mouth watered at the very thought of drinking your blood again, eyes crimson and fangs fully pointed, “I love you,” he whispered into your ear then pierced your skin, squeezing you tightly as he inhaled your blood. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you,” he repeated over and over to himself, wishing he could repeat it down the bond or verbally to you. But you knew, you could feel it in the way he held you close.
Each male one by one bit into their mate's neck, every female glaring E down as the males regained their strength.
Heeseung finished first, exhaling with pleasure as he licked the dripping blood from his mate's wounds before they closed up. His eyes are now burning holes into E.
“Ha! What do you think drinking from your mates will do?” E snapped.
Niki cracked his knuckles, “Gives me plenty of strength to beat your ass for locking us ten feet under the damned castle.”
“It’s not just drinking from our mates,” Heeseung said, twirling his blades, “You really need to stop dismissing our magic users.”
E narrows his eyes, slowly turning to look at the witch and elf, both females snapping their fingers, colorful auras surrounding each of the boys.
“What did you girls do?” E snarled.
The witch looks up at Sunghoon, ice crystals forming at his hands, “We gave them a power boost,” she said.
The elf leaned against Sunoo, his index fingers twirling in a circle, and rocks from the ground started floating up and circling his fingers, “After our second in command’s mate showed off her new abilities, we decided to do research and dig deep into our mate’s auras and gave them a boost.”
Jake snapped his fingers and fire flicked from the tip of his index finger, a chuckle leaving his lips, “Always knew I had a fire within me.” His dhampir mate rolled her eyes but kept herself pressed against him anyway, a massive smile on her face.
Niki unfolded his hands, palming facing the sky as darkness floated out of it, his eyes locked on E.
Jay flexed his hands, a smirk spreading on his lips. He was stronger. So much stronger.
E fixed his eyes between Jungwon and Heeseung, then laughed, “Guess the two of you aren’t so special huh?”
Heeseung smiled and placed his index and middle finger on his temple, “Jungwon?”
Jungwon was immediately at his king’s side in a flash. It was so fast you didn’t even see him move. Vampires already have super speed, but now Jungwon topped that speed. Even E was in shock, his eyes widening now seeing Jungwon resting his arm on Heeseung’s shoulder.
His eyes locked onto Heeseung, “I am assuming you can communicate with them now.”
Keeping his fingers to his temple, he cocked his head to the side, glancing at his pack members one by one, “Let’s end him.”
E wasn’t ready for the rush of all fourteen of you. Each of the male’s powers threw him off along with the leftover magic both the witch and elf had that they were sending his way. You, the dhampir, Archer, Niki’s mate, and the queen rushed him too, swinging your weapons left and right at him in turns with the boys. E was panicking, and it was going to be his downfall.
E wasn’t expecting this. His whole plan was to tire them out and pick’em off one by one. He already knew Heeseung had guards in his corner. But he figured with the youngest ones not around they would falter and break. But that wasn’t the case.
He couldn’t keep up with their blows. With the ice, fire, darkness, strength, speed, gravity, their weapons, magic, and Heeseung leading them telepathically. All he could do was smirk, he underestimated the king and his pack.
Heeseung’s pack was already known to other packs on how powerful they were when it was just the seven of them. E knew the truth all along that it was because Heeseung was secretly the king. But now seeing how unified this pack was with their new powers and mates, they being a powerhouse still holds true. Even if Heeseung wasn’t king, these fourteen would still be the most powerful.
And he was an idiot to think he could break them one by one.
But he kept fighting anyway, praying for that small ounce of hope that he’d come out on top. That little confidence landed his hand on your neck, squeezing tightly and digging his nails into your skin.
The world seemed to have slowed down for Jay, his heart rate racing at seeing E’s grip on you and the way he lifted you up in the air.
“You’re the one Dorian almost killed,” E laughed with a tilt of his head, “Even with the scars gone I can still see them burning deep within.”
You gripped your hands onto his wrist, clawing at his skin in hopes of breaking free. You were losing oxygen and fast, gasping for air while fighting against him.
Jay’s jaw locked, feeling that string of fate connected to you loosening.
“Jay,” Heeseung warned, “Don’t do anything stupid!”
“He has my mate!” Jay snapped and without a second thought, he rushed forward.
E laughed, moving quickly in time with Jay.
The only thing that could be heard now was your screams as E’s sword split down Jay’s chest and exited his back.
Blood dripped down his body and out his mouth, but Jay kept his eyes locked on E, “You’re the cause of my mate almost dying!” Jay screamed, using his strength to break the sword in half and swing his blade to completely cut E’s arm off.
The pain of losing his limb forced his grip on you to drop, sending you back to the ground and hands reaching for your throat to regain air.
One moment you were beside them, and the next you were away, Jungwon handing you over to the queen and rushing back, “Jay!!” you tried to scream, seeing your mate drop to one knee as he gripped the blade of the sword and pulled it out of his body.
Jungwon grabbed E’s remaining arm and pulled it, breaking it out of his socket. E’s screams now fill the battlefield.
Sunghoon slammed his fists to the ground, freezing E’s knees down to keep him from moving. Niki stood behind him, placing his hands to the side of his face and pressing the darkness against his senses, him losing sight.
Heeseung rushed over, blade in hand, and shoved it into E’s chest, “This is for forcing my pack and me out of hiding,” he pulled the blade out and thrust it back in, “This is for when Dorian almost killed YN,” he repeated the actions, listing off each thing E has caused towards his pack. Each thing that led to the events of today. One by one getting his revenge in.
Jay pulled himself to his feet, taking Heeseung’s other blade and pressing it to E’s neck, the sizzling of his skin being music to Jay’s ears, “This is for almost killing my brothers and putting my mate through the bullshit she had to go through.”
E just smirked through the pain, “Haaaaa, what do you plan to do now that you’ve killed the entirety of the royal guard beside the small amount that follows you, false king?”
Jay looked at Niki, signaling him to remove the darkness from E’s eyes, forcing him to look at him, “We will remain as the strongest pack, keeping Heeseung in power.”
E laughed again, “That will only go so far.”
Jay shrugged, pressing the blade deeper into his skin, “We will break the chain you all created.”
E’s smirk fell and it was such a sight to see from Jay. And Jay’s face would be the last thing E will ever see. Using his strength, Jay sent the blade through, gripping the top of E’s head and ripping it from his body.
“Jake!” Heeseung commend. Jake throws a ball of flames at the body. The fourteen of you watching it burn to ashes. Jay took a final look at E’s head and then tossed it into the flames.
It was over.
It was all over.
Jay fell back to his knees, head spinning from the blood loss from the wounds. You were at his side immediately, screaming for the witch and elf and Heeseung to do something quickly.
The three of them patched Jay up while the remaining of the royal guard killed off the rest of E’s army, leaving an abundance of vampire bodies on the castle grounds.
You held Jay close, “You did it, Jongseong.”
He cupped your face and gave you a weak smile, “It’s over.”
“Not yet,” the king said, looking over the dead bodies, “We need to take care of this mess and fast.”
Jake smirked, “Leave it to me.”
The bodies were piled into the castle, Jake unleashing flames from both hands as he set the castle ablaze. Not leaving a single part untouched by his flames.
The fourteen of you watched the castle burn. The males held onto their mates tightly.
Heeseung, Jay, and Jake felt nothing as they watched the castle that completely ruined their lives burn into rumble. Nothing but terrible fucking memories lay there. They can all burn. Completely burn.
Jay finally took his eyes off the burning castle and looked down at you, staring at the part of your neck Dorian once sunk his teeth into, draining you completely of life before tossing you over that cliff. In a way, Jay was thankful the world turned out the way it did because he got you out of it. He’d still watch the world burn for what it did to you. But he had you for forever, and for that he was happy.
He pulled you closer to him, pressing his lips to your head.
“What now?” the queen asked, folding her arms on top of Heeseung’s that were wrapped around her.
Heeseung looked at the burning castle, then up at the sky, seeing the beautiful orange that came through from the rising sun, “I have an idea.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey, baby" Lando while he slid behind you, his hands around your hips to support you as you slightly swayed to the music on the dance floor, and you tilted your head at the sound of his voice. He pressed a kiss to your temple.
You were at the celebration party as Lando made it to the podium in second place. Lando invited his friends and you to the club to celebrate. So now you were dancing and having fun with other wags.
Lando knew that you were tipsy at this point, so he came to you to check on you. He was worried that one more drink would, might prevent you from returning safely to the hotel you were staying in.
"I think it's time to go now, sweetheart." He whispered the words directly into your ear before he whirled you around the face, he held your face up with his hands, so you could look at him.
Your hair stuck lightly to your neck and temple from all the dancing. Lando pushed it back and away from your sweaty skin. He watched as a slow smile spread across your face, before you stood on your tiptoes and kissed him.
But even in your high heels, which were 6 inches, you were still ridiculously shorter than Lando, and he especially bent his head down a little more to your height.
"Do we need to? I mean, your friends and their girlfriends are staying, so why can't we?"
"You're seconds away from passing out, so yes, we need to." He stroked his thumb under your eyes to wipe away the accumulating mascara and stroked over your cheek, which turned into the warmth of his palm.
"If we're in the hotel, I'll order us food, and you can find a movie to watch?" Lando knew that you could never say no to food, so he wasn't surprised by your quick nod and the little flash in your eyes.
"But can we maybe stay 5 more minutes, Lan? Please..."
"Hmm, I think you have had enough to drink, Missy, you're as small as a fairy, you and alcohol are not big friends."
Lando's mouth hovered over your mouth as he spoke, and it worked very well to kiss the small pout away that had already formed on your lips after his statement.
He kissed you slowly, his fingers tuned to your chin to move your mouth further towards his, and he hummed softly as you teasingly bit his lower lip, then giggled as you pulled away.
Lando frowned, put an arm around your waist to pull you closer to his chest and quickly stepped out of the way of a dancing couple, who the girl was waving her arms around.
He was afraid and worried that she would go and punch one of you two in the face or anywhere else for that matter. He could not afford that you were harmed in any possible way tonight.
Lando led you through the sea of bodies and towards the exit on the other side. More than a hundred people were there to celebrate or just to have fun this evening.
"I've already told George that we were leaving, so Carmen will be fine" He slid his fingers through yours, and you put your other arm around his. He knew that you would worry about Carmen, that's why Lando reassured you that she would be fine.
He kept glancing over his shoulder to make sure you were okay, his eyes glared at anyone who pushed you just a little too hard. Lando protected you in every way that he possibly could.
The cold breeze hit you both, as soon as you stepped outside the club. Lando gave you his jacket as he noticed that you were cold. He helped you put it on and to close it.
"You're getting cold, love." You told him, with concern laced in your voice, smiled slightly as he bent down to zip it up for you, his eyes met yours as you looked at him with adoration.
"I'm fine, but I will not let you catch a cold."
You took his large hand in yours and then the two of you walked down the quiet street, the soft light of the streetlights made Lando skin glow. And in your drunken state, you couldn't help but stare.
"Are you going to stare at me until we are at the hotel, darling?"
"Maybe"
The word was slurred and drawn out, the light tone was teasing nature, and it made him laugh softly and shook his head as his gaze followed your movements as you held your intertwined hands between your bodies.
"You are just very handsome, and I love looking at my boyfriend."
You had your head against his muscular bicep and Lando could not hold back his grin, his head lowered a bit, so he could give you a kiss on the top of your head.
"If I tell you that, you call me crazy and push me."
"I do not!"
"Yes, you do, darling. I told you that this morning, and you shoved your hand in my face and told me to fuck off." You pouted, looked up at him, and stopped with the swinging motion of your hands.
"That was because I woke up to you creeping at me."
"Appreciating your beautiful face."
"I had drool on my face."
"But these are your most beautiful moments, little one. That only I can see." Lando whispered the words, and you rolled your eyes as he teased you, wincing at the sudden pain in your feet from your high heels.
You tightened your grip around Lando's arm to easily bring him to stop, his smile turned into a worried frown. He looked at you with relieve as he saw that you didn't hurt yourself.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, my feet just hurt from the high heels."
Lando gave you a compassionate smile and took your high heels out of your hand and carried them for you. You gave him a grateful smile and took his hand, intertwined it with yours, and walked to the hotel.
While you walked, you stumbled many times, so now you were under Lando's arm, so he could make sure that you wouldn't hurt yourself and fall on the hard floor.
In the hotel, you instantly walked to the bed and laid on it, to rest and to wait until Lando had showered and got ready for bed. You scrolled through Instagram, while you waited.
As Lando finished his shower, you went into the bedroom to shower and do your skin routine. He sat down on the bed and out the TV on, so you could watch a film.
"Baby, could you help me get something from the shelf?" You asked Lando, as you finished your shower. As you unpacked, you asked Lando to put it there, which maybe had been not such a good idea.
Lando knew exactly what he needed to grab you. He knew that if he put that thing up there, that you would never be able to reach it on your own, but you insisted.
"Coming." Lando came into the bathroom, got you the thing that you needed, and then gave you a kiss on the forehead. He walked to the bathtub and sat down on the edge.
He looked at you, as you continued your skincare routine in front of the sink mirror. You looked so cute, when you did your skincare routine, as you always had that cute focused look on your face.
"You are so small, baby. Maybe next time I have to ask if they have a room, that has shelves that small people can reach." Lando teased, with a smile, and you gave him an annoyed look.
"I'm not that small. There are people that are smaller. Don't be mean to me."
"You are small, but that is perfectly fine. I love you just the way you are, baby."

“Oh look how gorgeous it is Damon” I whispered as he opened my car door. “Well how can I do that when I’m looking at how gorgeous you are” he whispered, pulling me to his body. “Stop it” I giggled pushing him away. “What? were at a wedding, it symbolises love” he smirked putting his arm out for me to take to walk into the building.
I raised my hand to my mouth and giggled, watching him as if I was a little child again. His eyes glistened in the lights put up for the special day. “So you love me now?” I raised an eyebrow, deep down hoping so very much that he’d say yes. Instead his face dropped with his arm.
“What?” Damon jerked his head backwards scrunching up his eyebrows, this confused expression spread quickly across his face. “You said it symbolises love” I repeated for him, a bit upset at his reaction. I swallowed standing up straight and tucked my hair behind my ear. “It doesn’t matter” I shrugged putting on a fake smile.
While my heart ripped. We’d been together for two months now and I was ready to tell him I loved him. But I needed him to say it first incase he didn’t feel the same way. I suppose I fell for him long before we got together and maybe that’s why I fell in love so quickly. Or maybe it was the fact he was so loveable. But from that reaction I thought it best to keep it a secret for now.
Damon still hadn’t moved. “Come on, we don’t have long until it starts” I nodded to the building with my head and with my right hand I stanched up his left. Making him walk to the doors with me. There was still a few people filtering in and finding their seats, but the majority of people had sat down by now.
“Y/n, over here” Caroline frantically waved at us. I smiled and made my way over there, pulling Damon with me. “Oh you look stunning” I grinned at her as she hugged me. “As do you obviously” “I don’t know what too you so long though” she whispered being nasty. “Oh we were just talking- got distracted” I patted his hand which was in mine.
The music quickly began after I finished my sentence and Alaric came out on stage. “Good luck” I kissed Damon on the cheek. “Thanks gorgeous” as I turned around Elena walked in with the brightest smile I’d seen from her in a long time. We waved at each other as we passed and I went to find my seat next to Bonnie in the crowd.
Damon and Elena soon came down the aisle to meet Alaric on the stage. He breathed out nervously, playing with his fingers behind his back. As Damon came up the two steps him and Alaric started whispering and smiling about something together. My heart beat against my chest. I loved watching my boyfriend in his natural element. Just him doing nothing still makes me smile.
Everyone’s heads swivel round as the doors open up for Jo to walk down with her father. “Oh she looks amazing” Bonnie whispered to me as we saw her striding down the aisle confidently and excitedly. “Oh she really does” I nodded, feeling my eyes fill up. We all watched as her father put Jo’s hand in Alaric’s.
They both gave the other a loving smile and I saw Alaric’s lips mouth “wow” at his soon to be wife. They held each other’s hands and the pastor began to talk while the audience took a seat. We all watched in awe as the couple looked and spoke to each other. “Now I believe you both have prepared your vows” she looked to Alaric suggesting he went first. “Of course” he nodded without removing eye contact with jo.
“Jo, we spent our lives dodging fate but because we did, I got to meet you. Thee most beautiful, hilarious, intimidatingly brilliant woman I have ever known. You inspire me. You showed me that happiness is actually something I could have in my life. And so, I promise to be with you. And love you. And to dodge fate with you. For the rest of our lives.”
I noticed Damon’s eyes flick across to me a few times throughout the speech. We exchanged smiles which made me picture us up there one day. Hopefully. “Jo?” The lady smiled at her. She’d been so mesmerised at Alaric’s speech she didn’t even realise it was her go. “Oh god- that’s a tough act to follow” she giggled wiping her eyes and making the whole crowd laugh. “Here goes” she beamed squeezing his hands excitedly. “Alaric saltzman- you are…”
Jo’s face dropped. She winced in pain as her body jolted. “Jo?” Alaric blinked as she fell towards him. The family and friends all gasps as she now faced us. Her white dress stained a dark red colour. “Jo?” Alaric shouted as they fell to the floor over her screams. In front of the whole audience on the stage where Jo had previously been standing, Kai appeared. Holding a knife dripping with his sister’s blood. Everyone’s mouths hung open.
Our hearts dropped at the sight of him. “Well wasn’t that sweet” Kai grinned at what he had done. He loved the attention we were giving him. “Kai” I heard Damon growl, with his head he looked him up and down. “Nice to see you again Damon” Kai smirked. My boyfriend snarled at him and made a run for it. “Damon no!” I yelled jumping up. Kai flicked both his wrists and me and Damon both flew backwards as far as the walls would let us.
Now Damon being a vampire could have shrugged it off. Me being a human resulted in everything going fuzzy and not being able to move a muscle in my body. I felt the magic of Kai once again as the screams from everyone filled the room. They held their heads before all the windows caved in shooting glass from every direction into the skin of the guests. And with that my vision left and all I saw was black.
Damon’s pov
My first priority was to find y/n once I could hear my own thoughts again. But there was so many people. So many bodies on the floor. So much blood. I scanned the room, scanned the people on the floor. Until I finally found where she had ended up. My heart broke into thousands of pieces. And if i didn’t have a job to do then i would have broken down to my knees.
Her limbs were out of place from the force she had hit the wall. Her legs and one of her arms was definitely broken. There was loads of glass stuck in her skin and her face was stained with blood and tears. She lied on her side with her head on her arm, her gorgeous face so damaged. Please don’t be dead. I had hesitated but in the next second I was next to her holding her to my chest. She had a heartbeat, she was alive but barely. It was faint.
I bit into my wrist and let the blood trickle down my wrist. My heart pounding against my chest as I put it to her lips. But she couldn’t drink it. She was completely out cold. Carolin and Stefan vamp ran towards us. “Is she…” Caroline began. “No” I cut her off shaking my head, a million thoughts going through it. “She can’t drink my blood” I looked up with tears in my eyes at my brother. He nodded putting aside his fear. “Get her to the hospital” Stefan nodded once.
“It’ll be okay brother” he stated before I lifted her up in my arms. “Okay” I whispered before vamp running off quicker than I ever have done before. We got to the hospital and I’d compelled three doctors and a nurse to see to her instantly. I was outside pacing for hours, but it felt like days. Up down up down up down. “Damon” Bonnie called out. I looked up to see Stefan, Elena, Caroline and Bonnie all at the end of the corridor. The worry on their faces felt like I was looking into a mirror.
“Have you heard anything?” Elena hissed getting closer. “Nothing” I answered shaking my head. “How longs she been in there” “three hours- and a bit” I replied after looking up at the clock. “She’ll be okay, she’s a fighter” Stefan told the group. “She’s human Stefan” Caroline teared up. Everyone’s phones dinged at the same time. We all rushed to grab them. The message was from Alaric. “Jo’s here- in critical condition” Elena read out.
She looked to Stefan and he swallowed. “Well go find Alaric” he nodded putting a hand on her back. “No- you should stay here with your brother” she shook her head and whispered what she had to say. “We’re staying with Damon and y/n” Bonnie put a hand on my back and rubbed it gently. “Yeah- go find Rick I don’t want him on his own” I agreed nodding my head, but I felt my heart sink knowing how many people I cared about had been hurt.
The door to y/ns room opened and the doctor came out with a very neutral expression. We all looked up apart from Stefan and Elena who hadn’t seen him come out, they were half way down the hall way now. “Damon?” He looked to me. I tilted my head getting ready for the news. “You’ll be pleased to know that y/n is alive and stable, we had to operate on her body in multiple areas due to the broken- spine, leg, ankle, wrist, elbow and shoulder” he explained.
But I still felt sad. Sad about the pain she was going through, i definitely felt relief but it was over come by the sadness. “So what I’m trying to say is she’s alive- but we don’t know if she’ll ever be the same again- if she even wakes up” he stated. I had no response. But luckily I had two best friends here to support me. “Can we see her?” Caroline begged with her big, sad eyes. “Of course, right this way”.
Two weeks later- y/n’s pov
Bright, white, hospital lights wasn’t unfamiliar for me to wake up to. I blinked them in slowly before moving my head around. Damon was in the corner of the room sleeping on the chair. I looked at my body to see the damage done. I wasn’t surprised to see myself completely casted up with all sorts of wires, tubes and stickers across my body. I wouldn’t be able to move so I tried to shout for my boyfriend but my voice was hardly coming out. It was so strained. So I looked to my right to see what I could throw at him.
Someone had left me a get well soon teddy which I grabbed with my right arm, which seemed to be the only part of my body which wasn’t harmed. I launched it at Damon and it hit his head. I let out a raspy giggle as he woke up baffled at what had happened. “That was quite a good shot” I softly spoke, but he was still in shock. I think the shock had moved from being hit in the head with a bear to how was I awake. “Y/n” he ran across the room to the side of my bed.
His hand touching my face. I held it with my working hand. “Hey gorgeous” I croaked with my dry mouth. “They weren’t sure you’d wake up, I weren’t sure you’d wake up” he whispered grasping my hand as a tear fell out his eye. “Damon, come on- I was always coming back to you” I whispered smiling before all the happiness drained from my eyes. “Damon- how long has it been since the wedding” “…two weeks” he told me. And now for the big question.
“Jo?” I swallowed feeling the tears floating in my eyes. “She made it y/n” he nodded stroking my knuckles. “Her and the babies they pushed through” he laughed while a tear rolled down his face. “So everyone’s okay” i cried out with a wide smile on my face. “Everyone’s okay- apart from you” he swallowed looking me up and down. “I’m alive” I shook my head reaching for his face. “Barely” he breathed out. “Damon I’m okay- thank you for getting me here so quickly”.
“You’re going to drink now, so I can get you out of here”. I nodded watching him bring his wrist up to his face. I watched the blood drip down onto the bed sheet and he lifted my head and he put his wrist to my lips. As soon as I swallowed the first drop I felt life come back to me. I felt it flow through veins. And most of all, I felt my bones snap back into place and heal. I gasped out when pulling away and sat up. Blood was trickling down my chin.
Damon wiped it away and took a seat on the bed. “You’re Okay” he whispered holding my face. I nodded, slightly disoriented. “Y/n” Damon turned my face towards his by my chin. “Y/n I was so scared you wouldn’t come back to me and I felt so guilty because i haven’t told you the truth” “told me the truth? About what?” I asked frowning hard at him. God what had he done. “I kept avoiding telling you because I was so scared but I thought I was never going to get the chance and that was scarier” he explained.
“Tell me Damon” I squeaked out, becoming really scared of what he had to say. “I love you and I want you forever, I do want to marry you some day”. My heart knocked on my chest to remind me I had to answer him. But i couldn’t help my big smile and exhale of relief. “Damon I love you too” I smiled finally being able to hear those words come out of his mouth. “It’s always been you since I met you- but It’s nice to finally hear those words” I giggled behind my hand.
“I should have said them a lot sooner but I’ve never felt like this- and it scares me- I’ve never only wanted one person in my life but now I’ve met you- it’s you or no one for me”. I nodded my head in complete agreement with him. I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him in. “You’ve got nothing to worry about, I’m not leaving, you don’t have to be scared” I whispered in his ear reaching up his neck for his hair.
“You’re so perfect y/n, I’m so glad you’re okay” he rested his head on my forehead, he watched me smile before leaning in to kiss me. Gently. Finally.

Natasha Romanoff x Fem!Reader
The Loud House Universe
Note: because having 6 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, a wife, in-laws, and working full time is crazy!
Natasha has always been observant; it’s in her nature to understand what’s happening around her. She knows everything about the human condition, including yours. As your wife and best friend, she notices the subtle changes before anyone else. It started with the little things. Your posture was slightly more relaxed than usual, shoulders dragging, eyes unfocused even during serious conversations. Then she noticed your eating habits. Back in law school, when you got busy, she’d remind you to eat, sneaking snacks onto your desk when you’d work late into the night. Now, she watches as you barely touch your plate, your attention fixed on the children instead, engaging with them while pushing your food around.
It’s the empty granola bar wrappers and the premade meal containers left on your desk late at night that concern her the most. You hated processed food slightly less than she did, so the sight of it scattered across your workspace is a surprise. A red flag she can’t ignore.
Then came the snapping. It wasn’t like you, not intentionally, at least. But these days, it seemed like everything irritated you. The smallest things—the mess the kids left behind or the sound of Natasha’s voice asking how your day had been—seemed to trigger something. Natasha could tell you had a million things on your mind. She’d catch you glancing at your calendar repeatedly, the tension in your jaw tightening with each passing minute.
And when night came, you barely made it to bed before falling asleep. The instant your head hit the pillow, you were gone, leaving no room for conversation, let alone the warmth of intimacy that had once come so naturally between the two of you.
Natasha had initially tried to brush it off to give you space, thinking you needed time to work through it. But the distance was growing. The laughter, the lighthearted teasing, the small touches, and stolen kisses—all of it seemed to be slipping away, and it scared her.
One evening, after tucking the kids into bed, Natasha found you in your office again, the door closed. She stood outside for a moment, her hand hovering over the handle, debating whether to give you more time or to finally say something. But she couldn’t wait anymore. You weren’t just burning out—you were burning away, and she was terrified of what might happen if she didn’t step in.
Gently, she opened the door. You were hunched over your desk, papers scattered around you, a half-eaten protein bar next to your laptop. Your hair fell into your face, and the tension in your shoulders made her heartache.
“Hey,” Natasha called softly. You didn’t look up, too focused on whatever task was in front of you.
“Babe,” she tried again, stepping closer and touching your shoulder. You flinched slightly at the touch, and that was enough to break something inside her. “You need to stop. Just for a little while.”
“I’m fine, Nat,” you muttered, brushing her off. But even to your own ears, it sounded hollow.
Natasha knelt beside you, taking your hands in hers, gently prying them from the keyboard. You tried to protest, but she held firm.
When she looked up, the tears in your eyes threatened to spill over. You stared back at her, exhaustion clear on your face, and she knew this wasn’t working.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Not for the two of you. After everything, you deserve to be happy and spend time together as a family.
But you were too stubborn, too determined to push through and help people in the way only you could. Natasha had admired that about you and had been amazed by the strength and passion you possessed. Yet you had forgotten about yourself in the process, and Natasha wouldn't stand by and watch you work yourself to death.
“Baby,” She said, licking her lips. It had been so long since she had heard you laugh."You've done so much for so many people. You've sacrificed more than anyone should have to." She paused, running her thumb across your knuckles. “What’s going on?”
For a moment, you hesitated. The words were there, at the tip of your tongue, but the truth felt raw, too vulnerable. So, instead, you shook your head.
"There's nothing, Nat," you replied, trying to pull away. “I’m just super busy these days. I want to get this report done for work. Cara has practice tomorrow, and I don’t want to miss it. Luke has an appointment on Thursday. I need a bit more time, and I’ll be done.”
"Stop." Natasha tightened her grip, refusing to let go.
She watched as you sighed, the sound breaking her heart. Your eyes were downcast, your lip quivering, and she could tell you were holding back.
“Natasha, I said I was fine,” You said lowly.
“Is that why you’re shaking like that? When’s the last time you slept a full night?”
You opened your mouth, the words catching in your throat. “Paige was up last night. She couldn’t sleep, so I sat with her.”
"You can't keep doing this," Natasha whispered, kissing your cheek.
You leaned into her touch, a tear sliding down your cheek.
"I'm okay," you murmured, but your voice trembled, betraying your true feelings.
“You’re not,” Natasha replied, brushing her thumb along your skin. Her other hand reached out to steady you. "Can you tell me why you’re running yourself ragged these days? Is work too much? Are we too much? Do you need a break? Tell me.”
Your shoulders dropped, and you looked away, unable to meet her gaze.
"It's just-" You shook your head. “You know how I get sometimes. My mind gets a little busy, and I have do everything simultaneously. I’ll be fine.”
"No," she said firmly, leaning in closer. "You're not doing this, not now."Her voice softened. "Please, babe, just let me in. Whatever it is, I can help."
She waited, watching as the tension drained from your body. Your eyes were still closed, but a fresh wave of tears was rolling down your cheeks, and her own tears mirrored yours.
"I can't-I can't stop," You finally said, the words coming out in a strangled sob. "Nat, I can't-"
She pulled you close, letting you bury your face in the crook of her neck. You clutched at her desperately, and she held you tight, stroking your back soothingly.
"It's okay, I'm here," Natasha whispered.
The dam finally broke, and you sobbed, your shoulders shaking.
“There’s so much to be done constantly,” You whispered. “I don’t know why, but it’s the truth. Sometimes, I feel like I’m losing myself in all of this. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I love our kids. I would never regret having a single one of them. Our life together is perfect. It’s just some days I just can’t stop. My mind won’t shut off.”
Natasha held you closer, letting the silence hang heavy around you. It wasn't the first time this had happened, and she knew it wouldn't be the last. There was no simple solution. No quick fix that would magically make everything better.
“It’s selfish of me when you’re at home with them,” You leaned against her. “I’m working ten-hour days. I’m ten years into my career, and I’m still working this hard for some need to be the best at everything. The best mom, the best wife. The best friend. I don’t know how to turn it all off.”
Natasha ran her fingers through your hair.
"I just want to be good enough for everyone," you continued. "To make a difference. To matter. To do something."
She kissed the top of your head, her heart aching for you.
"You matter so much, baby," she said. "You matter to me. You're always enough."
She felt you take a shuddering breath, and she knew she had to say something, anything, to get you out of your head.
"We need a change. A vacation," she said. "Away from all this. We'll go somewhere. Just the two of us. Or just you if that’s what you need."
"Nat," You looked up at her, eyes wide and filled with tears.
"I want this to stop," She cupped your face, brushing her thumb over your cheek. "You deserve better. We deserve better. I won't stand by and watch you destroy yourself. How can I help you?”
"Nat, I-," You swallowed thickly, and she waited, watching as you gathered your thoughts.
"I don't know," You admitted, leaning into her touch.
"You're not alone," Natasha whispered. "Never. We'll figure it out. Together."
She pressed her forehead against yours.
"You're so important to me, y/n" she continued. “Seeing you overwork yourself is scary. Please just take a moment. Come to bed with me.”
She pulled away, and you looked at her, a softness in your eyes.
"Will you lay down with me?" She asked. "Just for a little bit?"
You nodded, and she helped you, leading you towards the bedroom. You stopped in the doorway, your gaze falling on the messy sheets.
"I haven't had a chance to clean yet," You mumbled, looking away.
"It's fine, y/n," Natasha said. “We can sleep another night on these sheets. I’ll throw a load in the wash tomorrow.”
She guided you into bed, settling under the covers. She laid back, watching as you curled beside her, resting your head on her chest. You were warm and soft, and the feeling of your body against hers sent a surge of longing through her.
“I truly don’t know,” You began. “Where I can cut back. I just… I like being busy. I do, but it’s so difficult to breathe these days.”
She held you tighter, kissing the top of your head.
"I don't regret our kids," You said suddenly.
"I know, love," She whispered.
"But some days, I think about what it would be like not having them. What our lives would be like."
You paused. "Six kids. Six little lives in my hands. In our hands. What am I supposed to do with that?"
Natasha sighed, rubbing your back.
"I feel selfish for wanting to walk away sometimes," You continued. "For thinking maybe we shouldn't have had them all at once. Maybe it would've been easier."
"You're not selfish, y/n," Natasha murmured. "You're not."
"I love them, and I love being a mom," You said. "I do. I can't imagine life without them. But it's a lot."
Natasha brushed the hair away from your face.
"It is a lot," She agreed.
"Sometimes, I wonder how different things would be. If they weren't ours." You melt back into her arms. "If we had just decided after the miscarriage not to do it. To be happy being aunts to WIllow. Then my heart hurts. It aches so bad because I should be grateful. I should be thankful for all of this. I lost a baby. We lost our child. We got Cara. It was great. I was happy. Then we got the sibling set, and I thought we were crazy for being outnumbered..."
Natasha kissed your temple.
"But then Paige came. Then Luke."
"We wanted it, y/n" she reassured. "All of this. We wanted the kids."
"I know," You whispered. "But I also feel guilty sometimes."
"Guilty?"
"Yes," You admitted. "And I hate myself for thinking that. Because if I could do it all over again, sometimes I think I wouldn't have chosen this for us."
Natasha's eyes burned with tears.
"Why would you ever think that would hurt me?"
"Because you're not like me," You said. "You're strong. You've always been. I'm weak."
"You're not. Stop," Natasha chided. "You are the strongest person I know. I'm serious. Y/n, listen. You're allowed to have feelings. It's okay."
"I just want you to be happy, Nat," You sighed. "I want our kids to have a normal life. I don't want them growing up wondering why their mom is a wreck or that she regrets them. I don't regret them."
"They'll understand one day; if they don't, then it's not the end of the world. We have a lifetime to explain."
"What would we have done? If we didn't have kids?"
"Well," Natasha shrugged. "I'd like to think we would be somewhere fancy. Traveling whenever we want."
"What else?"
"Dinner, maybe," Natasha smiled. "Candlelit. Drinking wine. Slow dancing."
"That sounds nice," You sighed.
"We could do it now," She suggested. "I mean not the travel or the candlelight. But we could put on a record, eat, drink, slow dance."
"I'm a mess."
"We could take a bath."
"Okay," You breathed, closing your eyes.
Natasha leaned down and kissed your forehead.
Natasha smiled gently, her heart swelling with affection for you as she stood up. “Alright, then. Let’s do something nice for you,” she said, her voice soothing as she went to the bathroom. You watched her go, feeling a warmth spread through your chest at the sight of her, the way she moved with purpose, knowing exactly what you needed.
In the bathroom, Natasha turned on the faucet, adjusting the temperature until the warm water flowed. She added a few drops of lavender essential oil, filling the air with a calming scent that instantly began to soothe the edges of your racing thoughts. As the tub filled, she turned her attention to the flickering candles on the edge of the sink, lighting them one by one until the room was filled with a soft, warm glow.
“Come here,” she called softly, her tone inviting. You pushed yourself off the bed, feeling the weight of the day still lingering in your limbs, but Natasha’s presence made it lighter. She stepped aside as you entered the bathroom, gesturing toward the tub.
“It’s perfect,” you murmured, taking a moment to appreciate the cozy atmosphere. You could feel the tension in your shoulders begin to ease as you stepped closer to the warm water.
“Just what you need,” Natasha said, her voice low and comforting. She reached out, brushing a stray hair behind your ear, her fingers lingering against your skin. “You deserve to unwind.”
With a grateful smile, you began to undress, feeling a mixture of vulnerability and relief as you shed the weight of the day. Natasha helped you step into the tub, the warm water enveloping you like a gentle embrace. You let out a soft sigh as you sank deeper, feeling the heat seep into your muscles, washing away the fatigue.
“See?” Natasha said, leaning against the tub's edge, her arms crossed as she watched you relax. “This is nice, right?”
You nodded, closing your eyes and letting the warmth envelop you. “It is,” you replied, feeling the tension slowly melting. “Thank you for this, Nat.” As she began to leave, you peeked one eye open. "You're not going to leave me alone?"
"I'll stay right here," she assured, moving to the corner of the bathroom and grabbing a fresh towel. She sat on the floor, facing you, leaning against the wall. She crossed her legs, draping the towel over her lap, a smile on her lips. "I'll be right here."
"I was thinking more along the lines of you climbing in," You arched a brow.
"Y/n, you know I love you. I would do anything for you, but I don't want to make it uncomfortable."
"Make what uncomfortable?"
"Well," Natasha gestured around her. "You're supposed to be relaxing."
"Are you worried that seeing me naked is going to give you the urge to jump my bones?"
"You have such a dirty mind, Mrs. Romanoff."
"I have a dirty mouth, too," You winked. "You know, sometimes, you're so sexy when you're not even trying. That's part of the reason why I married you. Not just because you're wonderful, smart, and talented, but you're so gorgeous that it makes my heart ache."
"Y/n," Natasha smiled, a blush creeping up her cheeks. "You're sweet. You're lovely. But I think the hot water is making you a little loopy. Now, just relax."
"But I'm not done with my story."
"Tell me another time," Natasha insisted. "Just close your eyes and listen to my voice."
"No," You shook your head, sitting up straighter. "I'm not going to stop. Not until you get in this tub with me."
Natasha sighed, but there was a fondness in her expression. She knew you were stubborn and that you wouldn't let this go.
"Alright," she said, getting to her feet. "Let me grab another towel."
"There's no need," You replied, reaching out and taking her hand. "Just get in."
"Y/n," Natasha laughed. "This is a little awkward, don't you think?"
"It's not. Just get in. Come on," you tugged on her arm.
With a resigned sigh, Natasha undressed, carefully setting her clothes aside. Your eyes trailed over her, taking in her body's soft curves and subtle lines, admiring her smooth skin. As she slipped into the water, your gaze never left her, a rush of excitement filling you.
"See?" you said, moving closer to her. "Isn't this better?"
"Yes," she breathed, her cheeks flushed, her pupils dilated. She maneuvered herself behind you so you could rest in her arms.
You let out a soft moan as the water lapped against your skin, the warmth enveloping you. As Natasha wrapped her arms around you, her chest pressed against your back, the feeling of her skin against yours sent a shiver down your spine.
"Feels good, right?" Natasha murmured, her voice low and seductive.
"It does," You replied, your eyelids fluttering shut. "I want to be clear about something..." You murmured. "I've never regretted our kids. I've never regretted this life."
"I know."
"I do, but sometimes, I get in my own head. I know you're right there with me, holding me up, but I can't stop thinking. If I don't work hard, how will we have everything we need?"
Natasha kissed the side of your head, her hands resting on your arms.
"We can figure it out. You're not doing this alone, love."
"I know," You sighed. "But some days, it feels like that. Like I'm just treading water, trying to keep my head above the waves."
"I'm here," Natasha whispered, her voice full of tenderness. "Always."
You turned slightly, meeting her gaze.
"I don't want you to worry. About anything." She pressed her forehead against yours.
"I can't help it. I do," You said.
"We're okay, baby. I promise."
You closed your eyes, feeling a wave of emotion wash over you.
"How would you feel," Natasha breathed. "About us possibly getting a nanny?"
"Oh," You raised a brow. "I thought we visited that topic back in New York. It's why your parents moved in with us."
"While true, I think having another set of hands will take the load off," Natasha shrugged.
"What brought this up?"
"Well," She sighed. "You're not the only one that worries. I worry about you, how you feel. And I see how much you care for our kids."
"They're my whole world," You replied.
"I know. I'm not questioning your love for them," She reassured. I've seen enough lately that our work and sacrifices are worth it. We need to take care of ourselves first. I can't keep watching you destroy yourself over the smallest things."
"I'm fine, Nat," You shook your head.
"Please, babe, hear me out," She cupped your cheek. "You're a good mom and an even better wife. But it's okay to ask for help."
"We have the in-laws," You protested.
"Yes, and while they're amazing, they can't care for our kids daily."
"We're outnumbered," You frowned. "We said we would never be. They could overtake us any day now.
"Yes," Natasha chuckled. "I'm glad you're finding humor in this."
"Well, what can we do?"
"Let me look into hiring someone," She said. "We're not saying yes or no yet. I just want you to consider the possibility. If we get a nanny, it means less work for both of us."
"I'm the one having a mental breakdown, and you're home with them every single day," You looked into her eyes.
"It's okay to struggle," Natasha kissed your forehead. "You're human. You're allowed to not be okay. But you're not alone."
"Thank you, love," You whispered.
"Let me take care of you," She brushed her thumb across your cheek.
"Alright," You smiled. "We can look into it."
"We're going to be okay," Natasha said.
"I know," You replied, your heart swelling with affection for her. "Because I have you."
"Always."
The two of you sat silently for a moment, enjoying each other's company. The sound of the water gently lapping against the tub's sides was soothing, and the flickering candles cast a warm glow over the room. As Natasha traced lazy patterns along your skin, you felt the tension leaving your body, replaced with a sense of calm.

You do not have my permission to repost, copy or translate my work
 |——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
You had been sitting in that room for hours, the phone call with Yelena long forgotten as you waited patiently. Yelena said she would come fix it, and you trusted her.
It was exactly 18.00 (6 pm), or so the clock on the phone said when you heard yelling outside the room. You heard a few gunshots, and you ducked under the table as you held your hands over your ears. Your entire body shook with fear as the gunshots drew closer, and soon enough the door to the room you were in opened.
There stood Natasha, gun in hand and a smile on her face. She ran towards you, getting on her knees next to the table and loving the fact you scrambled towards her, throwing yourself in her arms as you sobbed.
Natasha smiled as she hugged you closer, rubbing her hand over your back soothingly. “I love you,” you sobbed out, and Natasha simply beamed with joy.
This day has been incredibly stressful for you, and turns out Yelena was right. Something as simple as having a woman recognise you, would make you realize that leaving was not at all what you wanted. You were loved and safe, and Natasha would always protect you.
Their plan had worked, and you were finally able to admit to Natasha, and yourself, that you didn't want to leave.
Natasha would keep you safe. Natasha would love you. Natasha would protect you.
After sobbing in her arms for a few minutes, Natasha made a move to get up, but you wouldn't let her go. “Please don't leave again,” you begged, and Natasha smiled as you cried.
"I am never leaving you again, Malysh,” Natasha told you, and you nodded the best you could. "Promise?” you asked her in a quiet voice. "I promise,” Natasha confirmed.
"Now come on, time to go. We should leave this police station before reinforcements come,” Natasha explained, standing up and dragging you along with her. You kept your arms tightly around her waist, and Natasha rubbed your back with one hand while she used her other to operate her gun.
Outside of the room it was all a blur. You could hear screaming and gunfire as Natasha led you rough the hall.
When you finally made it outside, a car was already there. Natasha opened the back door for you and helped you get in, she herself joined you on the backseat. There was a woman already in the car, and she sat behind the wheel, waiting for Natasha to close the door.
The moment Natasha closed the door, the woman stepped on the gas, driving away from all the gunfire and commotion.
It didn't take long before you fell asleep, Natasha holding you close as your eyes shut and sleep consumed you. Everything that happened exhausted you, and now you were finally safe and cared for you could finally fall asleep.
After arriving back at the house, something you didn't even notice, Natasha carried you up to your room, the woman who drove the car following her.
After you were settled in bed, Natasha kissed your forehead before going with the woman to the kitchen, planning some things out for the upcoming weeks. Natasha wanted to do so many things with you, but she knew that even though this arrest had been an act, people were actually looking for you, and taking you around could cause suspicion.
And so, together with the woman, she planned it out, transferring your identity over to a girl that already passed. The girl looked similar to you enough, and all Natasha had to do was transfer your DNA to hers, so if she got tested, it would seem as though it was you.
This was all online however, and involved a lot of hacking of medical files and information, hence why she had invited her friend.
Eventually, everything was settled, and the DNA in your medical files matched the DNA of the dead girl. When the girl would be found, they'd test her DNA, compare it with your already existing medical information and draw the conclusion that the dead girl, is indeed, you.
If that was all over, Natasha would finally be able to take you outside without people suspecting her. She could take you anywhere in the world.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning, when you woke up, you were confused to say the least. You were pretty much out of it, and it took you a while to remember the events of yesterday.
Natasha came for you. Natasha had brought you home…
After a few minutes, your drowsy state left and you got up, surprised to not have been wollen by Natasha. What about your bath? After brushing your teeth you went downstairs, determined to find Natasha and the reason for your lonely awakening.
When you got downstairs, you found Natasha in the kitchen, the woman from yesterday sitting at the counter chatting with her. The moment you got spotted, the woman closed her laptop quickly, obviously hiding something from you. You didn't really care, instead walking to Natasha and hugging.
"Good morning malysh. Did you sleep well?” You nodded and hugged her tighter. After yesterday, You never wanted to let her go again.
Natasha smiled at your actions, giving you a tight squeeze before letting go.
"Sit down, I have breakfast for you,” Natasha stated as she reached for a plate on the counter. It was filled with eggs and toast, and after you sat down she put it in front of you.
"We'll do bath time tonight,” she simply said as she sat down as well.
"Y/n, I'd like you to meet Maria,” Natasha then said as she gestured for the other woman at the kitchen counter. "Maria is here to help me with some business. We don't want what happened Yesterday to happen again,” Natasha explained, and you nodded as you gave Maria a smile.
Maria smiled back, before getting up and walking to the couches, grabbing the large bag on top of it.
"I heard you liked gifts,” she simply said as she walked back, putting the large bag on the counter.  Your eyes lit up, and your breakfast was almost forgotten, until Natasha reminded you.
"Finish your breakfast first. Then you can open the gifts,” Natasha ordered, and you nodded with a smile as you continued eating. You were quick to finish your breakfast, eager to open the gifts Maria had brought.
Once you were done, Natasha took your plate away as Maria pushed the bay of gifts your way.
You took the bag and thanked her, looking at Natasha as you waited for permission to open the bag. Natasha gave you a little nod with a smile, and you took the gifts from the bag. Each of them were wrapped in wrapping paper of your favourite colour.
There were three boxes total. One was heavy and big, while the other two looked more like cd's. You opened the biggest gift first, your mouth falling open as you noticed the Nintendo switch console.
You smiled widely and quickly got rid of the excess wrapping paper, setting the box down on the counter.
"Oh my god,” you exclaimed, giving Maria a huge smile as you went to take the Nintendo switch out of the box. "I can't believe it, thank you,” you told Maria.
After you'd unpacked the console, you grabbed the two smaller presents, opening them to find your favorite game and Mario Kart. .
'Thank you, thank you, thank you,” You exclaimed excitedly as you got the games out of the box, putting them in a case that was provided with the Switch. "Can I please go play mama?” you asked Natasha, giving her the best puppy dog eyes you could.
"Of course you can, my love,” Natasha told you, stroking your hair. "Go sit in the living room.”
You happily took your place in the living room, plopping down on one of the couches and starting your game. You had no idea how long you played for, and eventually Maria came to wish you goodbye, and you told her yet again how grateful you were.
Natasha had brought you lunch, and surprisingly she had not told you once to put your game away. Instead, she just sat down next to you, reading a book while you leaned against her.
When it was time for dinner, Natasha had told you to go sit at the kitchen counter, something you happily did after playing your game for so long.
After dinner, Natasha had told you no more games, as she claimed it would be harder for you to fall asleep. You didn't mind, content with the idea Natasha presented of finally giving you your bath.
You two went upstairs and you picked out your pajamas as Natasha set up your bath.
Once you were in, Natasha carefully washed your hair as she hummed a song. You were quiet and contently listened to her humming as you ran your hand through the bubbles and played with them a little.
"Thank you for coming to get me,” You suddenly said, and Natasha stopped rinsing your hair for a second before continuing.
"I will always come to safe my baby,” Natasha told you as she leaned forward, giving you a kiss on your cheek.
"I love you mama,” you told her, and it was impossible for Natasha to fight off the smile that was forming on her face. "I love you too, Malysh.”
After your bath, Natasha put you to bed, tucking you in with your two stuffed animals as she gently stroked your hair. "Goodnight my little love,” Natasha told you with a smile, leaning forward to press a kiss to your forehead.
"What if they come to get me?” you asked Natasha scared, yet Natasha just smiled reassuringly.
"No one will come to get you. Mama will fight them all off for you,” Natasha told you, and even though you nodded, you weren't convinced.
"Will you stay with me mama?” you asked her oh so sweetly, how could Natasha ever deny. She got herself ready for bed quickly before crawling next to you, allowing you to snuggle close to her.
Once you were all nice and comfy, Natasha started stroking your back, hoping for you to fall asleep faster.
"I never want to leave you mama…” you told her, your voice laced with sleep.
"You never will…”
-------------------------------------------------------------
Together with Maria, Natasha had made sure the body of a dead girl would be found closely to where you had gone missing.
Police had quickly moved in, fishing the body from the river and getting it to a hospital. It was clear the girl had been dead for days, and when a doctor took some DNA samples and typed them into the system, your file showed up.
You were dead. You had been murdered.
As the body was cleaned and an autopsy had been performed, the cause of death had been a stab wound, which afterwards ‘you’ were thrown into the river.
‘You’ had been death before ‘your’ body hit the water, and ‘you’ hadn't suffered.
After ‘your’ funeral, the discovery of ‘your’ body had made the news, and every news channel was talking about it.
Natasha got an alert on her phone, opening the news article and reading about ‘your’ death. She smiled to herself. She had won. Natasha had finally won. You were hers. You were her child, her daughter, and no one would ever be able to take you away from her ever again.
Natasha pulled you closer, kissing your forehead and stroking your hair.
“You’re my little daughter, my little child. I’ll love you forever,” she promised, as she soon joined your peaceful slumber.

Spencer was very concerned. His neighbor– his very attractive, down to Earth, and kind neighbor– was frantic, eyes sunken, and just wasn't as… present as she usually is. Spencer was concerned.
His concern also may have been a bit biased because of the small crush he harbored for her… but he didn't want to think about that too hard.
He hadn't been around much recently, getting called into the BAU more often than not, but when time did allow him to linger around his building, he would see the distress on her from a mile away. The other day, right before a case, he was locking up his apartment when she was just getting home. It was quiet this time of day, but that was cut short when her phone started to ring.
“This is the one time I’m wishing they're calling about my car’s extended warranty.”
Her disgruntled mumble was pretty soft, and if Spencer wasn't right across the hall from her he wouldn't have heard it. He wanted to see if she was okay, but she answered her phone and he was being asked for his ETA at the BAU.
When that case was finally over, and he was walking back to his place, he suddenly stopped and turned towards her door. There was a package in his apartment that was placed with his mail in the mailroom, and only really looked at it last week; right before he left for a case. He would've given it to her then if he wasn't already late at the time, and he didn't feel comfortable leaving it in front of her door so this was truly the next best thing.
His plan was the following: knock on your door, tell you he has your package in his apartment, grab said package, and then leave with dignity. There was no way he could screw this up.
His knock was soft, but the way she swung open the door was a sharp contrast to that. “Please tell me this is the part where my life doesn't have to completely fall apart oh– you're not the delivery guy.”
Your dejected look caused a small ache in his chest. “No, but the delivery people tend to not come to our doors, they're supposed to stay in the mail room– you already knew that.” He was getting flustered. This was not a part of the plan. “Are you okay?” He couldn't help himself. After seeing the way you were last week, and how that hasn't changed one bit since he was gone… he really wanted to make sure all was well.
She barely waited a moment before answering. “No,” the crack in her voice was evident. “My great aunt passed and she was a horrible person, but the funeral directors were asking me which address to send the urn to and my sister stepped in making sure I didn't put mine down because I’m ‘most likely to lose aunt Pearl’s ashes’ and the rest of my family overheard and started running with the joke. With me being me I wanted to prove them wrong so I did give them my address and I still don't have the urn but they're saying it was delivered and oh my, God, I’m dumping all of this on you.” Her eyes were welled up with tears, and with how wide her eyes became he was surprised the tears hadn't started to fall. “I’m just going to… let you go on with your day. I’m so sorry, Spencer, maybe we can talk to–” she started to close the door, blocking her face that held a worrisome look.
“I have it!” It’s as if he suddenly remembered why he went over there in the first place “I’m uh, I'm assuming I have it…?”
“You do?” Her door was now wide open again, and a spark of hope was shown in her eyes.
“Yeah, that's why I came over here. I just got back from work and wanted to let you know before I grabbed it. They put it with my stuff and I didn't check it until a couple of days ago and then I had a case and–”
“Spencer?” She cut off his worried rambling.
“Yes?”
“Could you grab it please?”
“Oh! Yeah!” He was like a baby giraffe walking for the first time. His legs were not keeping up with his body as he quickly walked over to his place, unlocked his door, and made way for the box over in the corner by his bookcase. “Again, I’m sorry. I’ve been at work more than not recently and I should've brought it over as soon as I knew it was yours but–”
“Oh, I could kiss you right now!” She grabbed the box so fast it could be considered snatching, but Spencer didn't mind.
“Maybe after I take you on a date?” What the hell was that? She was excited, he was flustered, and for him, word vomit was real. “I’m sorry, I have no idea why I–”
“Spencer…” She stopped his worried ramble once again, and Spencer assumed he died and went to Heaven because there was no way the next words out of her mouth were real. “Ask me tomorrow, when I’m not all flustered. I’ll definitely say yes.”
Yeah, he definitely died and went to Heaven, because the next day, he saw her walking back from the grocery store, walked up to her, stuttered through asking her out for real, and she said yes. Just as promised.

♡synopsis: Lee Heeseung loved the feeling of falling in love, wanting to kill or die for a girl he knows would stay loyal to him. He got unlucky thrice, the three cheaters now rotting 6 feet underground, post mortem reports manipulated. Then he laid his eyes on her. Y/n. A girl looking for not just love, but commitment, someone she can trust blindly, knowing he'll be there for her. A match made in heaven right? too bad for her, he's a fucking psycho.
✧♡✧♡✧♡✧♡⁺₊⋆☾⋆⁺₊♡✧♡✧♡✧♡✧
Y/n sat at the café table Criminology book open before her, Laptop just beside, her jaw rested on her palm. A large Matcha bubble tea that was barely halfway finished as she loved to drink expensive drinks like this, slowly. She had been taking notes of what she believes she needs to remember for her exam. 2 hours of revising, and she found herself getting distracted. "Baby I'll be home before you know it, yeah just at work right now" a male said into his phone, hanging up straight after.
Infront of him, another girl too a seat, a sweet smile, looking at him as if he's her world, he leaned into kiss her. Men. so fucking un loyal. Why is it so hard to find a man who could do the bare minimum and not expect something? Was she asking for too much?. the girl heaved a sigh to herself, feeling bad for whoever the unlucky girl was. She got on with typing her notes, not even getting distracted by a rather pretty man who had walked in.
However he was immediately captivated by her beauty. Black hair, a few blonde pale highlights, glossy lips, long lashes, and a very attractive sense in style. One would take a look at her and assume she's some rebellious teenager, only Heeseung saw a girl waiting to be loved, to be held in his safe arms, someone looking for her soulmate. He wants her, he needs her, I mean she's literally made just for him.
Lucky for him, most tables were full, he ordered a drink as he approached her "excuse me... you don't mind me sitting next to you do you?... all the other tables are well... full-" Heeseung said as y/n looked around. There were some empty tables, but she was a bit socially awkward around strangers, not wanting to get on the strangers bad side, she nodded with a soft smile, moving over a little. Heeseung sat beside her, leaving plenty of space. He took out his laptop as he got on with his work. Eventually she went to the restroom, leaving her phone behind with him. Using the little time he had, he bugged her phone and placed it just where it was before.
Since that day, he kept track of all of the people she knew. The girl was walking home one day, looking over her shoulder every few minutes, trying to shake off the feeling that someone was following her. It was late at night, she lives alone, the last thing she needs is to lure a demon into her safe space. So she decided to make sure of that, assuming that singing and vibing to the music she was listening to as she skipped home would de-attract any potential stalkers.
Heeseung found it cute seeing how she was really getting into her music. See to him, he assumed she was acting as if she was in a music video, just because she thought no one was around. She's just so fucking cute in his eyes. So fucking cute. Especially when she's begging and crying, her little brain trying it's best to process what was going on.
Heeseung made a little pouty face as he bent down to her level. He just kidnapped her, the girl now tied up in his basement, her mascara-tear stained face in his view. He wiped away her tears as he planted a soft kiss on her lips. "Oh don't cry pretty baby... I'm only here to protect you... I love you y/n and I know you will love me. but for that you need to stay at home with me." He explained.
5 days had passed since then. Y/n was stick in this ginormous palace-like mansion. Stunning, intricate designs in the walls, golden patterns in the roof, an elegant, dazzling chandelier in the centre of the room. Heeseung was too sweet, he's everything she needs but dangerous. He's fucking perfect, but a sick psycho. Y/n feels herself falling for him, yet she fears him.
Heeseung smiles when he sees y/n, her eyes scanning the window with a pout. There was a little bunny in the garden and y/n wanted to play with it, but now that bunny was no more, either it's been hunted down or it found a better place to graze. "Sweetheart... come here I have something for you" Heeseung called out as y/n silently walked over to him. The man slipped the opaque sheet off of a pretty big square-shaped item.
The item was a fairly big bunny cage, with 2 little fluffy bunnies, one white and one had brown spots. Y/n audibly gasped as she squealed "So so cute!!!!" she said smiling, the girl hugged him tightly as Heeseung smiled, hugging her back, kissing her forehead as she blushed at his acts. He's the one. Others may call her crazy for falling for a kidnapper... but how could she not? in a world full of whores and cheaters, this man seems so... human.
"c'mere bunny~" y/n cooed softly as the small white bunny that was at Heeseung's foot. She stroked the spotty one, playing with his ears. "I'm going to call you.... Rocky!... then I'll call her Reena, because Rocky and Reena are a couple!" she said with a smile. Heeseung snickerred finding her so sweet, her love for animals being so intriguing to him.
Y/n rested upon Heeseung's chest. He had killed quite a few men on the streets today, but you found it romantic, he killed those perverted catcallers just for you. "Baby... I want a pet baby pig" y/n pouted as Heeseung snickerred "I think that's impossible sweetie, we can visit a petting zoo, but I doubt they'd like us since we did eat pork today..." He pointed out as y/n giggled, her eyes meeting his. They kissed, the sickeningly sweet, addictive taste of his saliva filling her mouth. Never has she ever felt so loved before...

Sweet Home Indiana Part 9
Only one more chapter to go and that's the happily ever after.
Lot of talking in this chapter. Steve and Eddie, Eddie and Chrissy, Steve and Chrissy, back to Eddie and Steve. But we get to the most brilliant idea Eddie has had since choosing to marry Steve.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
****
The drive back to the hotel wasn’t a long one, but it still felt like it had passed by in a single instant.
When he pulled into the parking lot he was surprised to see Steve leaning against one of the pillars to the covered valet parking, smoking a cigarette. His feet were crossed at the ankle and his free hand was holding tightly to the arm that held his cigarette. His head was down, but Eddie could his hair wasn’t styled and his clothes were rumpled.
He got out his rental in a hurry and tried not to run up to Steve so it was this weird loping walk/jog thing.
“Baby?” Eddie called, leaning his head down to try and look him in the eyes.
“Eddie?”
His already broken heart shattered into dust when Steve raised his head. His eyes were red and swollen, his face blotchy with tears, and his expression was shuttered.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he cooed, cupping Steve’s cheek. “What are you doing here?” If Eddie was the cause of another shop closing, he was going to start crying, right there in the parking lot, dignity be damned. “What about the bakery?”
“Robin is taking care of it,” he murmured, “she called in Claudia to help out, the shop’s fine.”
Eddie heart sank further. “But you aren’t. Why don’t we go up to my room and we’ll talk about it, okay?” When Steve didn’t say anything, Eddie backtracked. “Or we can go somewhere else if you prefer.”
Steve shook his head. “No, no. You’re hotel room is fine.”
Eddie wrapped his arms around him and led him to his room. He sat Steve down on the one armchair in the room and poured a glass of water. He got out two capsules of ibuprofen and handed both to Steve.
“Drink up, Stevie,” he gently implored. “Don’t want you getting a migraine because you’re dehydrated.”
Steve nodded and did as he was told. Once he was done, he handed the cup back to Eddie who set it on the table.
“I was making snickerdoodles and started crying and couldn’t stop,” Steve murmured. “I know I’ve been awful to you all week and I’m starting to feel like that stupid Einstein quote or whatever about being crazy.”
Eddie chuckled and ran his fingers through Steve’s hair. “Crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?”
Steve nodded and then leaned into Eddie’s touch. “I’ve missed you so much, Eds.”
Eddie knelt in front of him and kissed his forehead. Steve let out a shuddering breath as the sobs threatened to choke him.
“What did you do to me that I didn’t deserve, Stevie?” Eddie whispered. “I left you, kept running when I could have come home, demanded a divorce, came to town and shook up your life and was just going to blow out of it again, never to be seen again? After all that, what did you do to me that wasn’t in self-defense?”
Steve let out another shuddering breath. “Kevin is just a pool buddy. We aren’t dating. I haven’t dated since before you. I couldn’t. You’re everything to me and I don’t know what I did to make you hate me.”
Eddie frowned at the name before he realized it was the guy he saw flirting with Steve his first night in town.
“I don’t hate you, baby,” he murmured. “I never hated you. I was so scared that I would be stuck in this hick town my whole life. I wanted to see the world. I wanted to meet new people, but I never stopped loving you.”
“But Chrissy?” Steve asked, tears slipping down his cheeks. Eddie right there with him with his own tears.
“She needs a visa to stay in America,” Eddie said his voice shaking with each word he forced past his lips, “and if we don’t get married by a certain date, they’ll ship her off back to Barbados. She’s my Robin, Stevie. She’s my Robin.”
Steve’s eyes went wide as he gasped. There wasn’t anything in the world that he wouldn’t do for Robin, even a lavender marriage if that’s what it would take to keep her safe.
“Oh.”
Steve threw himself at Eddie and pulled him in for a big hug. “Oh, sunshine,” he breathed. “That’s horrible. Of course you need to marry her, to keep her safe. I’m sorry you’ve been carrying this around like a millstone around your neck.”
“I’m sorry, Stevie,” Eddie wailed. “I am so sorry.”
They slunk to the floor in a crumpled heap as they cried together.
Later they would get on the bed and just hold each other. But for now, they cried in each other’s arms and held on for dear life.
****
Eddie woke up for the first time in years feeling well rested and comfortable. His phone was also blasting “Hot Blooded Woman” as loud as possible.
He rolled over to grab his phone but was met with a warm body and face full of honey colored hair.
Eddie smiled and stretched over Steve to grab his phone.
“‘Ello?” he muttered, trying to keep his voice down.
“Eddie!” Chrissy shrieked. “I’ve been calling for the last ten minutes! Why didn’t you pick up?”
Eddie pulled his phone from his ear and stuck a finger in it to clear it out. “Chrissy, not so loud.”
“Well, I’m sorry if I’m freaking out that you weren’t answering your phone, Edward,” she huffed.
Eddie slid out of the bed and grabbed the room key on his way out of the hotel room. “I was sleeping, Christine. I’ve had a very emotionally wrought day and was exhausted.”
There was silence on the line for a moment or two before he got a very chastised, “Oh.”
“I’m sorry, Ed,” she murmured. “I was having my own freak out and completely forgot about yours. That was fucked up, I’m really, really sorry.”
Eddie sighed and leaned against the door. “It is what it is. Why were you calling?”
“Um...” she hedged. “It doesn’t sound so dire in weight of your shit, so...”
He chuckled and shook his head. “Now you’ve got to tell me.”
“So, um...” she hedged a little more, “I called the bakery to see if I could talk to Steve and see if we could work out custody of you or whatever, but he was busy.”
“Snickerdoodles.”
“Yes!” Chrissy hissed. “Wait! How did you know?”
“Steve came to the hotel to see me,” Eddie explained, “and told me he had been making snickerdoodles when it just came over him that he just had to see me.”
“Cute,” she said and Eddie could see her tilt her head to the side in his mind, something she’d picked up from him. “Anyway! I’ll talk more about that in a minute. I need to freak out.”
Eddie shook his head fondly. “Continue.”
“So this really cute sounding girl picked up and wouldn’t let me talk to him because apparently their giant stand mixer eats phones!” Chrissy explained.
“Let me guess, you’re freaking out about the cute sounding girl?” he murmured.
“Is–is she Steve’s girlfriend?” she asked shyly.
Eddie burst out laughing. He laughed so hard that Steve opened the door and looked down at him. “You okay there, Eds?”
He nodded, pursing his lips together. “Would please explain to Chrissy that Robin isn’t your girlfriend, please? Please?”
Steve rolled his eyes but took the phone from Eddie’s grasp.
“Hi, Chrissy?” he greeted.
“You must be Steve!” she chirped happily. “Nice to meet you at long last!”
“Likewise,” he said fondly. “Robin Buckley is my partner in a lot of things, but as a staunch lesbian, she isn’t anything but my platonic soulmate.”
He pulled the phone from his ear as she shrieked. Eddie looked up at him with the biggest grin and made grabby hands for his phone. Steve handed it back.
“Oh my god!” Chrissy cried. “If I wasn’t set to marry you, I propose in a heart beat!”
“I never took you for a U-haul lesbian,” he teased her.
Suddenly everyone stopped stock still.
“Oh shit,” Eddie said scrambling to his feet. “That’s it!”
“I’m calling Robin!” Steve cried, diving back into the hotel room.
“Get on a plane, darlin’,” Eddie told Chrissy. “I think we just solved all our problems.”
“Eddie...” Chrissy breathed. “Do you think this will work? What if she says no?”
“She won’t,” he reassured her. “And even if she doesn’t agree today, she will once she meets you face to face.”
“This is insane, Ed,” she muttered. “I don’t know.”
“Babe,” Eddie breathed. “Jeff is already out here for his parents’ wedding anniversary. Brian lives in Indy, and I bet I could convince Gare to be on a flight faster than you can book your own flight. You’ve already told the immigration lady that you were coming down here to the wedding anyway.”
She sighed and took a deep breath. “Okay, but now I’m freaking out for a different reason.”
Eddie laughed. “Because now you’ve got meet the pretty girl on the phone?”
“And is she?” Chrissy asked. “Is she pretty?”
Eddie went searching through his phone for the pictures he took during his week here and found a good one of Robin and Steve at the bar. He sent it to her.
“Stevie is hottie on the right,” he told her, “and Robin is cutie on the left.”
There was silence on the line for a few moments before Chrissy breathed. “Right, two things. One, I think you’re an even bigger asshole for leaving that behind, by the way.”
Eddie bobbed his head side to side. “Yeah, that’s fair.”
“And two holy fuck,” she hissed. “I would go down on my knees begging her to marry me even if my immigration status wasn’t the fucking sword of Damocles hanging over my head, right now.”
“Someone packing her bags yet?” he teased her.
“Look, babe,” Chrissy said seriously. “I was already packing my bags to meet your scaly white ass out there in Bumfuck, Indiana, it’s just going to be a more enjoyable experience is all.”
“See you soon, Chris.”
“I’ll message you my flight details as soon as I get them.”
“Right-o,” he said and hung up.
The door to the hotel room opened up again and Steve leaned against the doorframe.
“Robin thinks it’s a great idea,” he said softly. “One of her schools was already out there in Washington, so this makes the choice easier. Plus, this means she won’t be alone in the city like she thought she would be.”
Eddie got to his feet and put his arms around Steve’s waist. “This only clears up seventy percent of the problem.”
Steve frowned and tilted his head to the side. “What do you mean?”
Eddie cupped his jaw tenderly. “I still have a life out in Seattle. I want to be here with you, but there is so much to do before that could happen.”
Steve draped his arms around Eddie’s neck loosely. “I know that, Eds. I wasn’t expecting a miracle cure. So the only thing I need to hear from you is that no matter how far apart we are, that you’ll still love me.”
Eddie pulled him in for a hug and they stood there, half in the hotel room and half in the hall, just taking comfort in each other.
“I promise you this, Stevie,” he whispered in his ear, “that I will move heaven and earth to find my back to you. Something I should have done a long time ago.”
Steve shook his head. “No, I think we both needed to grow up before we could properly be together.”
Eddie let out a contented sigh. “Yeah, I think you’re right.”
Steve pulled him back inside the hotel room and Eddie closed the door behind him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In spring and summer there were always the games in the Coloseum, the place where wars were fought, victors became heroes and heroes became legends carved in stone.
It was a place where anything seemed possible, at least for the first half of the year before it got cooler and the torches had to be lit more often, torches that lit the way and the oil lamps that you held in your hand if you didn't have a lantern.
All these things were noticed by the common people, the gladiators, the soldiers and also the emperors and the priestesses in the temples.
They all knew that with the coming of the cold they were reminded of their mortality, a reminder they cherished, a reminder that made them realise the importance of the gods.
For the gods were immortal and would help them through the winter that would bring many deaths if they didn't prepare properly and pray enough.
,,A goat brother? Last year it was just a chicken, what do you hope to get from the gods?" his older brother's question echoed in the corridor. Geta was dressed in a dark toga with golden embellishments but above all a light golden lion's fur was placed on his shoulders like a cloak to protect him from the cold, his blue eyes went to his brother's who looked at him with amusement.
Caracalla usually found praying boring, the silence and tranquillity were nothing for the restless older brother and the wooden carved boat told Geta that his brother would probably rather show off playing a prayer, ,,For devotion to the gods of our souls…would do you good too brother" replied the blond, not giving his brother another glance and pulling on the rope so that the animal followed him out of the palace.
It was no ordinary goat, he had chosen it personally, the black fur like a shadow and the bright eyes like the moon, he hoped to gain their approval for this generous sacrifice as well as that of the gods, as it was in autumn that he had first seen it.
When the priestesses had sung prayers through the city and passed the palace, it was she who had placed the wreath of flowers on him and his brother, ,,May the gods protect you and lead you to infinity…my Geta" she had said, but he had seen her eyes dart to his lips for a fraction of the wreath of flowers.
She had wanted him and he had wanted her. He couldn't get her out of his mind and yet he knew that he could only see her once a year when autumn came and he brought her an opfeurng to get answers and today, as he walked up the stairs the animal seemed calm as if it knew what was coming, that there was a good outcome.
He had only placed two guards outside it was a sacred place and except for the weapons of the priestesses no man was allowed to bring a sword inside, ,,My connection to the gods, priestess of this temple hear me and show your holiness to me your Emperor" he said his voice echoing around the great hall as he saw her form in the shadows of the fire echoes.
Feeling the breeze of autumn stirring the fruits and leaves she walked towards him, ,,You are back with another generous offering I see…this is loving, the gods will be pleased" her voice rang out as her body clad in a pure white toga made its way towards him.
Her hand laid on his for a moment and he felt the urge to touch her but couldn't as she took the animal to the altar.
,,I hoped to please you as well, my devotion is also to your marvellous work," he admitted and walked slowly towards her as he saw the blade flash and knew that the room was about to fill with the smell of blood. But her brief evasive look at his compliment was not lost on him, even in a temple of the gods she could not hide her feelings.
A blood that flowed in her, a blood that he would taste if only he could see and touch her more often.
The cry of the animal was ignored by both and the blood flowed down the altar the dagger stained her with blood as she turned to him her hands and lips stained with blood, ,,Take the path of trust and your line will stand, If you fail and forget yourselves, Rome will fall," she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper as her eyes looked up at the ceiling, at the painting of the moon and Geta tried to read the words.
Trying to understand what the gods were telling him as he gripped her hand tightly pulling her towards him as he wanted to hear more, but she fell silent and looked at him as if she had woken up from something, ,,I'll give you more and give me you" he murmured his fingers running over her cheek smudging the make-up on her cheeks before running his fingers over her blood stained lips.
Sensing that it was still slightly warm, no longer alive but the last breath seemed to be there they were only moments apart and he took her word as he kissed her, a brief intense kiss tasting her and the blood for a moment listening to what the gods had told her and holding her close before suddenly a roar went through the temple and the torches almost all went out.
The kiss was the reward of his feelings, his attempts and her calling for him, it was a kiss that bound them both together.
They both shuddered and he saw her disturbed yet unexpected expression as her hand lay on his, ,,I'll protect-" he wanted to say, but he saw her shake her head, the brief smile as she looked at him as if he had learnt nothing and she ran her hand over his face.
,,It's the gods Geta…I see you in my dreams…but stay away from this place until next autumn,’ she commanded before she broke away from him and gave him one last look before disappearing into the darkness of the temple.
But as he looked into his hand he saw a bracelet a light coloured metal with a white gemstone which she was actually wearing, ,,I will appease the gods until I have you" he said and looked up giving the gods to understand that just because it was the dark month he would not be tamed and she would be his sooner or later.
Gojo giving his f!partner his blindfold because she has a migraine 🥺
stop this is so cute 😭 I love it sm <33
these past weeks have been stressful for you, sure you weren't on the frontlines exorcizing curses but filing the paperwork that had come with eliminating them seemed to be your breaking point, Autumn; curses had been popping up left and right, and with that meant files of reports needed to be filed by the end of the week. Your eyebrows seemingly stuck in a permanent furrow as your pen scribbled into the dotted lines. When it was time to clock out, your boyfriend Satoru always made an appearance at your doorway at exactly 6:04, “Heyyyy!” his voice broke you out of your trance. “Hey,” you mumbled tiredly rubbing your eyes, you had the lights in your office dimmed due to the recurring pain that would strike behind your eyes.
“You okay? Kinda dark in here,” he said, switching the lights on which made you wince loudly, “ Oh God turn them off!” you exclaimed quite loudly as Satoru made quick work of switching them off immediately making his way over to you, “Hey, you okay?” he spoke softly, running a hand over your back. You let out a tired laugh as you stared up at him with tired eyes, “honestly no.” you said rubbing your fingers over your temples, even moving your eyes too much to set the pain off.
Even though Satoru Gojo seemed like an absolute ass he learned rather quickly to observe people, he observed the growing worry in your voice as the days passed on, the tiredness in your eyes, and the way your eyes would usually avoid bright lights. “Overdoing it huh?” he asked, continuing to massage your back.
“No choice if I wanna get these papers filed by the end of the week.. Everything is too much.. The writing, the lights..” you mumbled incoherently as Gojo continued to listen.
“y/n hold your head up for a minute.”
“Huh?” you asked, getting pulled from your trainwreck of thoughts, he repeated himself, his hands pulling as his blindfold, a peak of his snow-dusted lashes and eyebrows making an appearance, you nodded, sighing with an okay as you held your head up. He stepped behind and part of you wondered what he was planning.
All of a sudden you felt the draping of a soft cloth grace the bridge of your nose and then your sensitive eyes, he made a loose but secure knot. “How’s that feel?” he asked and by the tone of his voice you knew he was smiling, you couldn't help the smile that crept on your face as you responded. “Better.” Gojo grinned, placing a kiss on your forehead as he stepped back, “Great! Now m’lady shall we get home? I would love to enjoy the company of my girlfriend and her amazing cookies.”
You let out a giggle as you stood up, “Of course Satoru-” you were cut off as your hip hit the side of the desk which resulted in you letting out a groan, “Careful, kinda hard to see.” he said grabbing your hand gently, “Guess you'll just have to hold onto me for the rest of the night.” he feigned playfully with an overdramatic pouty face.
“I guess I will Satoru.” You hummed gripping his hand tightly as he led you out of your office.
AH I LOVED IT, I'm so sorry it's this late! 😭 IT might be a bit more dramatic/moody than you've wanted but I really hope you like it! ❤❤
Tumblr media
Christmastime in London was always special to you. You loved how the storefronts all dressed up into colourful decorations and cheerful lights, how the smell of warm cookies filled the air as you passed your favourite bakery on your way to work. Excitement and restlessness filled people’s hearts as they were waiting for a little break at the end of the year, a time of reflection and hope. And honestly you could’ve used a fresh start.
Work was hectic in the office before at the end of the year, but you always pushed through by thinking of the holidays approaching faster day by day. The last weeks before Christmas were all about secret Santas and Christmas gatherings at the office as well.
You were having lunch in the small kitchen at work when your phone lit up with your best friend’s name. She usually doesn’t call, so you answered suspiciously.
“I have a huge favour to ask” she said quickly without even saying hello. You put your face into your palm as you braced yourself for what was about to come and even like that you were shocked at her next words. “I need you to come to the company Christmas Party with me.”
“You what?” you asked, trying to conceal the sudden anger in your voice that was bubbling up inside you. It wasn’t like you to get angry easily, especially not on her, but this time it came so out of the blue. Why would she ask that?
“I know babes, I’m so sorry I wouldn’t ask you this if it wasn’t life or death!”
“How can a Christmas party be life or death?” you asked cynically, drumming your fingers on the table next to your lunch. You’ve lost all your appetite.
“I will die if you won’t come with me, that’s how” she joked, trying to lighten your mood.
“You’re so dramatic” you chuckled, but you pinched the bridge of your nose. “Go on.”
“Look, I don’t want to spend all my evening alone with my coworkers and their families and my rich boss, and insufferable football players!” she started. “You know this is not like a few-drinks-in-the-office kind of party, it’s full bling in a fancy hotel and shitton of food and booze!” you could basically see her waving her hand around while talking. “I thought just the two of us could hang out, get hammered and judge others. What do you say?” You rolled your eyes. She knew this was a compelling offer, but not compelling enough. Not when you could risk running into him.
“Okay, but!” You started and held up a finger like she could see it through the phone. “I have the right to leave at any time I want. Deal?” You heard her let out an annoyed groan at the other end of the line.
“Fine, whatever. I know you’ll love it.”
“I sure will. What do I wear?”
“Go all out babe. I’ll meet you tomorrow at 6. Love yous!” She hung up the call and you placed your phone on the table and just stared at it for a moment.
Your best friend was working at Richmond FC. The football club whose every match you’ve seen since you remember, up until last year. It was your family’s team. Now thanks to Jamie Tartt, you couldn’t even think of the name Richmond. And now your friend wants you to go back there, all dressed up, to an event where you could possibly – or even most likely – meet him and have to talk to him. Have to smile at him like he didn’t break your heart. Like you didn’t cry about him for months after he left.
But you weren’t that girl anymore, were you? Time has passed, you moved on, right? You didn’t cry about him anymore. But the twisting feeling in your gut when you thought about him, when someone mentioned him or even the team, when you saw ads with him told you otherwise. Told you that you in fact, have not moved on. But he doesn’t have to know that.
The walk on the way home was chilly and this time you couldn’t admire the flickering Christmas lights around you on the street, nor the sweet smell of cookies coming from the bakery. Your mind was filled with the thought of him, and the possibility of seeing him again. The thought of your friend being an asshole also crossed your mind a few times, but you knew she didn’t mean any harm. For all she knew you were over Jamie. And you were convinced of that too, but the squeezing feeling in your chest told you otherwise. You didn’t listen though. You didn’t care about him. You didn’t.
You told that to yourself the next day as you looked for that beautiful dress in your wardrobe that you might or might not wanted to wear to impress him. To make him feel like an idiot for throwing you away. You didn’t care about him. As you did your makeup a little more elegant than usual. You didn’t care about him. As you did the finishing touches on your hair. You didn’t care about him.
You picked up your purse and locked the door when you saw your friend calling, meaning she was there to pick you up with a cab. The cold air made you shiver a little and you were thankful for the ride. Wintertime was really not made for having these parties. A thin layer of snow covered the streets and the rooftops, the streetlights painting it a warm hue of gold. You let out a relieved sigh, suddenly you felt calm from the peaceful sight. You hopped in the cab and closed the door. Your friend let out an audible gasp as she looked at you.
“You look fucking fit, girl!” she squealed before she hugged you. You scoffed and chuckled before pulling away.
“Thanks, I guess” you smiled, heat crawling to your ears. Your friend gave the address of the venue to the cab driver, and you were off into the night.
“You really did go all the way, huh?”
“Your wish is my command!” you smiled at her, your heart hammering against your ribcage.
“I got you something” she said and started to rummage through her small purse before she pulled out a small bottle of liquor. You laughed.
“Aren’t we going to a party with unlimited free booze?”
“Wanted to have a moment for just the two of us. No offense” she chuckled and looked at the cab driver who smiled back at her. “Thanks for being here.”
“My pleasure” you replied and took a sip out of the bottle. You felt the liquid burn your throat before you handed it to her. Truth be told, you felt alright. Together with your best friend, dressed to the nines, having a fun night out. Who cares about Jamie Tartt?
When you stepped inside the giant ballroom, your breath got caught in your throat. You’ve been to fancy places before – mostly with Jamie -, but nothing of such magnitude. The room was framed by insanely tall walls with red velvet covering, and shiny accents. Christmas ornaments and decorations hung from the ceiling next to the chandeliers, and there was a beautiful Christmas tree in the corner, next to the stage where the band played soft jazz music. Round tables occupied half of the room in a neatly organised pattern, the other half was the dancefloor.
Kind men took your coat, and you clutched your purse to try to calm your nerves. You felt like you didn’t belong, you stuck out like a sore thumb among these gorgeous and rich people. You felt your friend’s hand squeeze your own as she led you further into the room.
“It’s gonna be fine. We’re eating, getting wasted, dancing then going home, ‘kay?”
“Okay” you breathed. You didn’t dare to look around the room in case you recognised someone. Him.
The two of you made a beeline towards the bar and ordered your favourite shot that you drank immediately. You hoped it would calm your nerves a little.
“Easy girl, the night is still young!”
“That’s especially why I’m drinking” you chuckled. You felt a tap on your shoulder and your heart dropped to your stomach, blood freezing in your veins. That was until you’ve turned and saw Sam’s face and his thousand-watt smile.
“I knew it was you! It’s so good to see you!” he cheered, his accented voice ringing in your ear as he hugged you.
“Sam, oh my God! Look at you, you look amazing!” you answered and rested your hand on his arms. “How you’ve been?”
“Good, good! We have a lot to catch up on, you should write sometimes y’know!” Fuck.
“I know, I’m sorry.” A frown settled on your face, and he immediately tried to lighten the mood.
“Just messing with you. But hey, make sure to come say hi to the others later, okay?” he said, and he gestured to the other side of the room, and your gaze instinctively followed. Mistake.
There he was, in all his glory, as tall and handsome as ever. His hair was different, a bit longer and had highlights in it. It really suited him. He wore a slightly unbuttoned shirt and had its sleeves rolled up, his jacket discarded on a nearby chair.
You’ve felt like throwing up, the content of your stomach making somersaults nonstop. Yet you smiled like nothing happened and nodded at Sam. Your friend who you haven’t spoken to in months because he reminded you of Jamie. What an asshole move. And he was so kind he just forgave you.
“We sure will” you answered and squeezed his arm before you let go. And as he turned you sneaked another peek in Jamie’s direction. You felt lightheaded as his gaze caught yours and you looked away in a blink of an eye, turning your back at him.
“Are you alright? I’m so sorry, look, we can just leave” your friend whispered as she looked at you concerned, but you just shook your head.
“I’m fine, really. When is dinner again?”
“In like half an hour” she replied.
“Mint, I’ll catch my breath outside and I’ll be right back, okay?”
“I’ll come with you.”
“No, it’s fine, really” you protested. “It’ll be just a minute, promise.”
“Fine” she sighed as she rubbed your arms. “But just a word and we’ll be out of here!” You nodded and headed towards the door that led to the back garden. Your steps were quick, and you had your head low to avoid anyone stopping you in your track. But you felt like your heels were too loud, that everyone was looking at you, that he was looking at you. In reality, only one of those was true.
As you opened the door, the cold air bit into your skin as you stepped outside. The garden was gigantic, and the grass was covered in a thin layer of snow. There were gravel paths going around in twisty patterns curving around shrubbery and statues.
To your surprise there were standing tables outside accompanied by tall heaters. You weren’t cold but you knew it was just temporary, so you took a beeline towards one of the heaters and stood next to the table under it. It was kind of magical, hearing only the distant music from the ballroom and nothing else, watching the snow-covered garden. You felt your heartbeat slow down and anxious thoughts leaving your head.
You heard footsteps approaching and you turned towards them with a smile, thinking it was Sam or your best friend. Of course, that was not the case. He took his jacket back on, but the top buttons on his shirt were still undone. He looked at you with a shy smile.
“I knew I saw you” he said, his hands in his pockets. You knew he was fiddling with them like he always did. You didn’t reply and you weren’t sure if it was the nerves or the anger. You stood in silence for a moment before he spoke again. “It’s good to see you again. I didn’t think you’d come.”
“Me neither” you replied, and your voice was colder than you thought it would be. It was perfect. He just couldn't see how he ruined you. He just couldn't.
“I can leave if you want?” he said, but it was almost like a question. A question you didn’t really know the answer for. Did you want him to leave? Or were you just over the moon that he was there, standing in front of you, with a heavy heart and a shy smile? You kind of never wanted that moment to end. You felt pathetic and you looked away from him, which he took as a cue to leave. “It’s alright. It was nice seeing you. You look beautiful.” What an asshole. What right does he have to call you that?
He turned his back on you, and you swallowed the lump in your throat as you looked at your shoes. The fancy shoes that you might or might not picked out to impress him. You did get what you wanted didn’t you? He did call you beautiful. So why was it making you so angry?
“I just” he hesitated before continuing. “Wanted to say I’m sorry. Truly.” You looked up at him. His body was halfway turned from you, and he looked back, head hung low and a few strands of his hair fell into his eyes. Your ears were ringing as your heart was pounding in your chest.
“I was a royal prick. And you-“ he scratched his throat. “You deserved better. And you deserve better than me ruining your night, so I’ll leave you be. Sorry. Truly, it was nice seeing you.” he said and turned away. You felt like your mouth acted on its own as you called out after him. His gaze snapped back and met yours.
“Would you-“ you paused. “Like to stay a bit?” You could see his shoulders relax as he let out a breath he was holding. A smile found its way past his lips as he stepped closer to you under the heater.
“I’m glad you asked because I started to freeze my arse off” he chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. But he was still very aware of his situation.
“Yeah, why can’t these company parties be held in the summer? You get all dressed up only to freeze your tits off” you smiled back at him. He was leaning against the table as he looked at you. It somehow felt right, being there with him.
“Well, some of us are more dressed up than others” he grinned as his eyes wandered up and down on your body. You pretended you didn’t see it, but the rising heat in your body said otherwise.
“I know, Rebecca looks insanely good tonight” you said to deflect the compliment.
“Yeah, she’s really good at this glam thing. Kinda jealous of her.” You cocked your eyebrow at him, but you didn’t say a word. Signalling him to go on. “Most of the times I just can’t wait to bolt at these events.”
“Why don’t you? Are you on the clock or something?” you asked, clutching your purse for dear life. The more reasonable part of your brain said you should just tell him to piss off. But you didn’t.
“Nah” he shrugged. “I just like the company a bit more than usual.”
You felt your heart flutter at the compliment. Then you immediately felt sadness. Then anger.
“Jamie, why on earth are you here?”
“Umm, it’s a company Christmas party?” he answered with a question, feigning ignorance.
“I meant here. And you know that. If you really would've liked my company, you probably wouldn't have dumped me to fuck around” you snapped at him and straightened your back, preparing to leave him. “Merry Christmas, Jamie.”
You turned on your heels and headed towards the main building. Now that you’ve stepped away from the heater the cold winter air crawled against your skin once more, tears prickling your eyes. You were stupid for coming here.
You picked up your pace before you felt a warm hand grip your wrist. You felt tired. You felt like you had no energy to do this right now.
“Please, love. Just give me a chance.”
“A chance for what, Jamie? To break my heart again?” you asked in a choked voice from holding the tears at bay. He let go of you and ran his hands through his hair. You hated how you knew he always did that when he was nervous. All this knowledge of him, all that love for him. What were you supposed to do with them now?
“What can I do to make it right? I’ll do anything.”
“Stop making a fool out of me. What do you want? A good nostalgia lay? A charity one, because it’s Christmas?” You were so angry at him. If all these were true, why did he just dump you? Say all those things he said. But at the same time, you wanted this to be true. But you weren’t ready for another heartbreak.
“Piss off, I’ve cried enough because of you already.” You turned your back on him again and stormed off. You saw your friend's silhouette at the door, and you felt relieved.
“I’m so sorry babes, I’ll call a cab, okay? I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“It’s fine. I won’t give him the satisfaction of leaving” you let out a shaky breath and hugged your friend.
“What did he want anyway?”
“He said” you started but your voice choked up. “He said he was sorry. That he wanted to make it right.”
“You’re kidding. What did you say?”
“I told him to piss off, as you can see” you answered and let out a dry laugh.
“I can see that, but why?” she asked, and you snapped your gaze at her.
“What do you mean why? Don’t you remember he broke up with me to chase models instead?”
“But maybe he does want to make it right… and you love-“ she said but you broke her off.
“I don’t. Please can we just drop this? Let’s have dinner, what do you think?”
“Sounds perfect.”
Dinner was served by elegant waiters, all different kinds of soups, meats, salads, whatever you could’ve wished for. And fortunately, they didn’t hesitate to bring you drinks as well.
“No way!” you laughed at another guy who was sitting at your table. He was your friend’s coworker, or something like that. You actually had a really great time since the dinner started. These people were nice and funny, and took your mind off of Jamie for a bit. That was all you could’ve asked for.
“It’s nice to meet finally meet you guys in person, I’ve heard so much about you I feel like I’ve known you for ages!”
“Only good I hope!” another girl, Jenna chimed in and chuckled while your friend just rolled her eyes to hide her awkwardness. Mixing friend groups was always a stressful experience for her. Suddenly Jenna whispered something to the person who was sitting next to her – you remembered her name being Ellie.
“Yeah, for sure” Ellie said, covering her mouth while laughing.
“C’mon girls, didn’t they tell you it’s rude to whisper when you have company? Spill it!” your friend whined as she took another sip from her drink. Jenna rolled her eyes playfully before she leaned closer to the two of you.
“We were just talking about how shaggable some of our footballers are” she giggled, and you choked on your drink, what earned you a few weird looks.
“I’m sorry, I just tried to laugh and swallow at the same time” you replied quickly. During your exchange the wait staff started to clear your tables as the dinner was about to end, leaving place for the music, dancing, and drinking.
“Or maybe you fancy the gaffer? No shame in that he’s pretty fit himself” Ellie continued before Jenna cut her off.
“You bet he is. And he’s such a gentleman, I’ve ran into him at the cafeteria once. Maybe even too much of a gentleman.” She gave a knowing look before she chuckled. You knew this was going to be bad.
“C’mon girls, stop it! Anybody can hear you!” your friend tried to stop the situation from getting worse, but it was of no use.
“So, new girl, what do you say? Do you have a favourite guy on the team?” Jenna rested her head in her hands as she was looking at you, batting her eyelashes. She didn’t mean no harm; she had no way of knowing that you were in fact an ex-girlfriend of one of them.
“You know what, I’m kind of a Roy Kent girl myself” you said, and your friend snorted next to you, almost spitting her drink. You flashed a huge smile at her before clinking your glass against hers. The rest of the girls made approving noises before they got interrupted.
“That kinda hurts” his voice pierced your ears, and your heart went into overdrive. Of course. You turned towards him, and you swore your eyes shot daggers at him. He had one of his hands held out towards you, inviting you to take it. “Spare me a dance?”
You already drank enough to consider his offer. You felt everyone’s eyes on you and for a second you didn’t care.
“Sure” you replied in a low voice as you stood up. You heard a gasp from behind you, but you weren’t sure who it came from. You took Jamie’s hand as he led you towards the dancefloor. You heard your friend say “I told you anyone could hear it!” in the background and you smiled.
After you reached the centre of the dancefloor, he spun you around and put one of his hands on your waist, pulling you closer. You didn’t look him in the eye, but scanned the room for anything else to focus on. The band was playing a slow song and couples started to flock to the floor next to you. You saw Ted asking Rebecca for a dance and even your friend stood up and made her way to the floor with someone. You felt Jamie trying to be sneaky and pulling you closer into him with every sway, but you didn’t say anything.
“Do you remember when you taught me how to dance?” he asked, and you heard the smile in his voice. You did remember.
“Of course” you said, barely audible.
“We moved the couch to make space. And even then, I hit my foot into it.” He spun you around to the rhythm of the music, then pulled you closer than before. And you let him, as you rested your head next to his collarbone. He smelled so good, and you allowed yourself to get lost in the moment as you closed your eyes. Like you were in your living room again, like he didn’t break your heart.
“Do you think you can forgive me?” he asked abruptly.
“It’s not-“ you hesitated. “It’s not that I can’t forgive you.” You knew you could forgive him in a second, because you loved him. You loved him so much, not a day went by without you missing him.
“What is it then?”
“I just don’t want to be hurt again. I know you just take whatever you want and when you’re bored you just toss it aside.” You fought your tears as you buried your face into his chest.
“I’m not that person anymore, love” he said and stopped the two of you, lifting your chin up so your gaze met his. “I promise.”
“Why should I believe you? You promised before you’d never leave me and then you tossed me aside. Made me feel worthless.”
“Fuck” he exhaled, pressing his palms against his eyes. “Can we talk somewhere else? Can’t hear my own thoughts.” You didn’t reply just nodded before he took your hands and led you outside to the same spot you’ve talked earlier. Tears were prickling the corner of your eyes as you followed him, looking down at your joint hands. He stood under the heater before he turned to you and placed both his hands on the side of your face.
“Look. I was a major prick, I know that.” He searched your face as he spoke. “But I promise, I’ve changed. I shouldn’t have treated you like that, I was an asshole. I know that now” he paused.
“But I-“ he started then he stopped, his eyes frantically scanning your face.
Don’t say it.
“I just-“
Don’t say it.
“Fuck, I-“
Just say it!
“I love you.” You let out a relieved sigh as you closed your eyes. He pulled you closer as he planted a kiss on your lips, shy and chaste. Your heart was stammering against your ribcage, and you felt like it was your first kiss ever.
“I love you too” you whispered as warm tears rolled down your cheeks, contrasting the cold air. He kissed you again, this time braver, and he poured his heart and soul into it as he pulled you in with his hand on the nape of your neck, his fingers tangling in your hair. You wrapped your arms around his neck and your heart felt like a thousand suns exploded inside it.
“Please let me make it right.”
“Just make sure you won’t make a fool out of me again for saying yes to this, okay?”
“I promise” he said before he kissed you again. “But I have another question.”
“Yes?” you asked and raised your eyebrow.
“Are you really a Roy Kent girl?” You laughed at how real the concern was on his face as he looked at you with his puppy eyes.
“No, actually I’m a huge Jamie Tartt girl, have you heard of him?” you grinned as you caressed his face.
“Huh, sounds like he’s a lucky fella” he smiled before he leaned in for another kiss. Maybe it wasn’t so bad your friend invited you after all.
Rosie's palms were slick with sweat, the din of the band muffled to his ears beneath the deafening thumping of his heart as he pushed his way through the crowds, never faltering, even when people called to him as he passed. The door seemed all at once impossibly far away when every second meant not knowing where Frankie was, not knowing if she was ok.
A sudden silence fell upon him as he stepped out into the night air, taking a moment to adjust to the darkness. The sound of footsteps on gravel caught his attention, and he trailed after the crunch around to the side of the hut, stopping dead in his tracks as he took in the scene before him. George sat on the bench, leaning forward on her elbows, a deep frown creasing her cheeks. Frankie was pacing in front of her, a freshly lit cigarette letting off smoke as she held it to her lips. Even in the dim light, he could make out the redness in her eyes, and a wave of nausea coursed through him as he realised she'd been crying.
"Frankie?"
Their gazes snapped towards him, unaware of his presence until now. George was wide-eyed in concern, but there was something cold in Frankie's gaze - bitter, a type of ruefulness he'd never seen in her, especially not directed at him. She dropped the cigarette, stomping it out with her heel as she turned to walk away from him. "Frankie," George called, a warning tone in her voice, like a mother scolding a child.
It worked. She paused, face tilted up to the sky as she let out a long, exhausted sigh, and Rosie wanted nothing more but to step forward and hold her in his arms. But he knew in that moment she wouldn't let him. His eyes met George's for a moment, a nod of understanding passing between them. She rose to her feet, moving to give them some privacy, but as she passed him she paused.
"If you break her heart, I swear I'll kill you, Rosenthal."
"Understood, ma'am."
She walked away, the sound of her footsteps fading with distance. Frankie's shoulders were tense as she rubbed at her eyes, attempting to remove the evidence of the tears she'd shed over him.
"... Honey?" Rosie asked slowly. She stormed towards him, hands reaching out towards his chest to give him a shove, to release the anger bubbling inside her. But when the moment came, she froze, seizing the lapels of his jacket in her clenched fists, unable to meet his eye, gaze fixed on the line of medals that decorate his chest.
"Hey," He spoke gently, scarcely more than a whisper. Reaching a gentle hand to her arm, he felt her grip loosen, peeling her hand away from him so that he could lift it, placing a kiss to the inside of her wrist, gaze never leaving her face. She met his eyes the moment his lips brushed against her skin, jaw visibly clenched. "C'mon. Talk to me."
"You're going back up, aren't you?" Frankie's voice came low and hoarse. Her knuckle brushed against his cheek so briefly, yet he felt the urge to lean in against it, to feel her hand against his face.
"I don't know, I haven't decided yet."
"Yes, you have. You haven't realised it, but you'll go - that's who you are."
The corner of his mouth curled in an involuntary smile, charmed at the thought of being known so well. But her expression had no humour, and her fingers balled back into a fist, slipping out of his grasp.
"They'll replace me with someone who can't do the job as well as I can. I'm saving a life by staying - I can't just walk away from this, Frankie."
"What about me?" She knew the words were selfish the moment they left her, the shame making her squirm. "I'd been waiting for this for so long - it was keeping me going, knowing that I didn't have to live in fear for much longer, and now you're just dragging it out for what? So you can feel good about yourself?"
Rosie's brow furrowed, taking a half-step backwards away from her, lips parting for a moment as he searched for something to say. He had noted the smell of alcohol on her breath, telling himself she didn't mean what she said, but the words still stung.
"I want to stop. If I could, I would, but-"
"But you can-"
"No, I can't! This is bigger than any one person, I can't just give it up!"
Frankie's lip had begun to tremble, and she sniffed loudly, raising her hand to hastily wipe away the tears forming in her eyes before they could fall. Before he could think about it, he was stepping forward to envelop her in an embrace, but she batted his hand away before he could touch her, and Rosie swore he felt his heart skip a beat.
"I've been doing this for nearly five fucking years," She shook her head. "I deserved this, Rosie. Today wasn't just about you, I deserved to have this one thing."
He paused then, sucking in a long breath. He hadn't considered that - that this had been her war far longer than it had been his. How many bodies had she dragged out of planes in her time? How much blood had she wiped clean? More than he'd ever seen.
"I'm sorry."
"But you won't change anything."
"No. But I need you."
"That's not fair. I wait for you every time and it is agony, and every time we're together I can't help but think of all the ways your next mission could go wrong, and I don't know how much longer I can do it."
Taking a step forward, he raised a tentative hand, holding back a sigh of relief as she let him touch her, his thumb skirting across her cheek. "I think you're the reason I'm still alive." He admitted, noticing the way her chest heaved as she sucked in a deep breath. "This was never gonna work out perfectly for us, but you're what I come back for. It's like... I think of you and I can do whatever it takes to make it back alive... because I love you."
All at once Frankie collapsed into him, head pressed firm against his chest, arms wrapped almost unbearably tight around his back. If she had to, she could live without him - she could get up and live her life every day, but it wouldn't be the same. He had made himself essential to her, had burrowed beneath her skin like an itch she couldn't scratch, and that presence would never leave, alive or dead. But a part of her would die with him. He squeezed her shoulders, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, warm breath fanning her skin.
There was nothing she could do. She could stand there in the dark and call off the whole thing, refuse to ever speak to him again, but the part of her that he occupied wasn't going away. Distance wouldn't solve anything, it would simply amplify her misery. The fear wouldn't abate, so long as there was breath in his lungs.
Rosie's cheek rested against her head, listening quietly to the steady thump of her heart. His hand moved from her shoulder to her hip to her hair, as if trying to map every inch of her with his fingertips, unable to hold her close enough without fusing his skin to hers. This was what he came home for, this was what kept him alive - what was heaven to the sound of her breathing?
"I love you too," She uttered. After a moment, Frankie raised her head, chin resting against his chest as she looked up at him. Rosie lifted a hand, wiping away the remnants of unshed tears with the back of his palm, a tired smile curling her lip as she let her eyes flutter shut. If he could've spent the rest of his life staring at her, he would've. Instead, he pressed a kiss to her forehead, reaching an arm around his back to take her hand in his.
"C'mon," He spoke softly, stepping backwards out of the embrace and tugging her along by the hand.
"Come where?" Frankie asked, brow furrowed.
"Just come," A grin creased his cheeks as she fell in step, their footsteps breaking the late-night silence.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The single lightbulb illuminating the path to the mess hall buzzed intermittently, flickering slightly as moths hovered around its glow. There was no one around, the staff having long gone for the night, the rooms within laying deserted. Frankie began to chuckle as she realised what they were doing, struggling to restrain a laugh as Rosie jostled the doorknob, wrestling with the thing for a minute before it came open with a creak.
"See? Like magic," He proclaimed.
"Yeah, on your third try," She snorted as he held out his elbow for her to take his arm as if they were entering a high-class restaurant.
It was utterly still inside the hall, the quiet so piercing that they could almost hear the beating of their own hearts. Rosie led her through to the back, flicking on the kitchen light as the shelves and shelves of food came suddenly into view.
"You're a thief, Rosenthal," Frankie pointed out, pushing herself up to perch on the edge of the counter.
He hummed distractedly, rifling through the supplies now at their disposal. "They'll understand. Date night with the wife 'n all." For a moment he continued without realising what he'd said, and then he froze, turning his head slightly to glance nervously back at her.
Frankie was already smiling, and offered up a shrug, a wordless assurance of 'someday'. He turned back to the shelves, hoping the shadows would hide the tinge of red he could feel blooming in his cheeks.
"Aha," He declared, retrieving a pair of chocolate bars and tossing one across to her. Peeling back the paper, she took a bite as he pushed himself up onto the counter beside her, tapping the chocolate together as if they were toasting glasses.
"This is better than a party," Rosie sighed, leaning back against the wall as he raised a hand to loosen his tie, undoing the top button of his shirt.
"Really? You won't find any good booze in here," She raised a brow, holding the chocolate bar between her teeth as she shrugged off her jacket, tossing it unceremoniously onto the floor.
"I'd rather sit around with you."
"Mm, yeah. I'd rather eat chocolate," Frankie mused, staring down at the half-eaten bar in her hand before going in for another bite.
"Oh, nice - romantic," Rosie chuckled.
"What? I'm just being honest. That's gonna be the worst part about going to America - no Cadbury's. I'm making this sacrifice for you Robert, that's romantic."
"You're right, I'm sorry for not appreciating your suffering," Pushing himself upright, he leant over to press a kiss to her cheek, missing as she turned her head and accidentally pressing his lips to her chin.
Frankie let out a cackle, grabbing him by the tie and pulling him in for a real kiss as she slid sideways off the counter. He could taste chocolate on her lips, one hand squeezing her hip, the other cushioning her shoulder as she backed up against the wall. She ran a deliberate hand through his hair, messing up his curls in the way that always made her smile. He was going to have to stop buying hair gel.
Rosie could feel the warmth of her skin through the fabric of her shirt, pressing against her with his palm as if they could meld into one. This wasn't like him. His mother would've been red in the face. But it wasn't his fault that Frankie was just so damn pretty. Simply breathing seemed twice as hard whenever she smiled - it was a wonder how he'd ever lived without it. The moment she'd left the party, his stomach had dropped so hard he thought he'd vomit, so scared had he been at the prospect of losing her. He cupped her jaw, tilting her face higher towards him, the press of her head against the wall messing up the curls George had no doubt spent ages tending to.
She snaked an arm around the back of his neck, trapped between his shoulders and the wall. It was an unwinnable situation, but she could survive the fear if it meant he was hers once it was all over. Rosie was good - no, scratch that - he was the best. If anyone could make it back, he could.
He had just begun to loosen her tie when a sudden banging at the door startled them, tearing themselves apart as someone hammered a heavy fist, shining a torch through the window at the front end of the mess hall.
"We know someone's in there!" A booming yell sounded. "Come out!"
Frankie clamped a hand over her mouth, muffling the laughter that threatened to erupt as Rosie gritted his teeth, trying his damndest not to do the same and give them away worse than they had already. She scrambled to collect her jacket, attempting to smooth down her hair with one hand as he hastily disposed of any evidence of their late-night feast.
The kitchen had a narrow back door, and Frankie pried it open as quietly as she could. Whoever had found them was still hammering on the front door, and as she peered out into the darkness she couldn't see any sign of reinforcements. "Go, go!" She whispered, shoes clutched in her hand to muffle her footsteps as they crept outside, scurrying across the grass towards the next row of Nissen huts.
As soon as they were home free she let a mighty laugh tear itself from her chest, splitting the air and undoubtedly waking up a few disgruntled workers. Rosie had begun to laugh too, their shoulders brushing as they swayed against each other, giddy on adrenaline. They were far too old to be sneaking around like teenagers, but he couldn't honestly remember the last time he'd had so much fun. Slinging an arm around her shoulders, she leaned against him as they wandered back towards her hut, the party's crowds not yet dissipated out into the world.
Approaching her door, Frankie turned to face him, walking backwards as she wrapped her arms around his back. She took a deep breath, letting out a sigh, giddiness wearing off. "See you tomorrow?"
Rosie nodded, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "Yeah. I've gotta go see Bennett in the morning, I'll catch you after."
"Yeah, alright." Pushing herself up onto her toes, she kissed him one last time, before slipping inside.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was quiet inside, the bathroom light humming as George stepped into the doorway, toothbrush hanging out of her mouth, curls brushed out of her hair. "You're back."
"I'm back," Frankie sighed, scraping a hand through her hair as she collapsed backwards onto the bed, springs creaking beneath her. She heard desperate scrambling from the next room as George hurried to finish up, and the quick step of bare feet against the floor as she scurried over, sitting cross-legged on her bed beside her.
"...And?" She asked, tone laced with worry.
"I'm living with it," Frankie admitted, throwing up her hands in surrender.
"That's it?"
"Think about it, George!" She exclaimed, rolling over onto her stomach so that she could look up at her. "If I made him stop, if I said he had to go home, he'd be miserable. He'd resent it - he wouldn't resent me, 'cause he's too bloody good, but he'll hate it. He'll spend the rest of his life regretting it, and I don't wanna do that. I'll have to live with it too."
The corner of George's lip curled in a half-smirk. "It's that serious, huh? 'Rest of your life' type stuff?"
"... I think so."
"I get it. It's better in the long run."
"Yeah, if there is one," Frankie sighed, staring dejectedly down at the floor.
"Oi," George slid off the bed, crouching down before her, forcing Frankie to look at her. "Don't gimme that shit, ok? He's the best pilot this place has ever seen, no one has chances as good as he does. I know it's scary - you know I know that."
She nodded slowly. "Yeah. I know. Sorry."
"Don't apologise. Get up and take that uniform off... you smell like chocolate."
Chuckling, Frankie pushed herself upright, beginning to peel away her clothes as George began to meticulously pin her hair into curlers for the next day. Sometimes she felt guilty - lamenting over the possibility of losing the man she loved when George had already lost hers. As if she were tempting fate, painting George's life as the worst possible version of her future.
"...You know I love you, right?" She asked slowly.
George looked up, brow raised. "Yeah, 'course. Why, are you dumping Rosie to run away with me now?"
Frankie let out a huff of laughter, buttoning up her pyjama shirt. "Yeah, that's the plan," She nodded, the pair grinning at each other as she climbed into bed. Flicking off the bedside lamp, she buried her head into the pillow, eyes shut tightly as she tried to fall asleep.
After a few minutes of silence, George spoke up again. "I would make a prettier bride than Rosie."
Grabbing her pillow, she hurled it at her, knocking George off balance and almost sending her tipping over the corner of the bed. "Oi!"
"I'm trying to sleep! Shut up and gimme my pillow back, or the engagement's off."
George chuckled, lobbing it back with as much, if not greater force, and Frankie yelped as it collided with her face, the sound muffled by the pillow.
"... I think you gave me a black eye."
"You're being a fucking baby."
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"General Doolittle has ordered the air strategy to shift radically...
"to shoot them down we need to get them in the air...
"...With bombers as the bait."
Frankie lingered outside the closed door to Bennett's office, arms folded tightly across her chest as she listened to the conversation within. She'd had to argue her way past a fair few guards just to get this far, and was resisting the sudden urge to march through the door and break something - preferably Bennett's nose.
She hadn't told Rosie she was coming, and the more she listened in, the more she felt confident she didn't want him to know either. He'd probably try to stop her from starting a fight. Footsteps approached the door from the inside, and Frankie ducked into the nearest office and out of view as Rosie passed. The room's inhabitants looked up at her as she entered, brows furrowed in confusion, and she offered an awkward smile, pretending to fix one of the clocks until he was safely out of sight.
Before the door to Bennett's office could fall close, she stepped in, propping her arm across the doorframe and blocking the exit.
"Can I help you ma'am?" He asked, brow raised as he stood up from his desk.
"Yeah, actually, I was wondering if you could direct me towards a CO with some basic fucking sense."
Bennett looked momentarily startled, before realisation seemed to flicker across his expression. "Ah. You're Rosenthal's girl, right?"
Frankie frowned. "I also happen to be the most experienced mechanic you've got. But yeah, I guess that works."
"In that case, you probably shouldn't come in here insulting your commanding officers."
"That'd certainly be a concern if I actually worked for you."
"Look... Sergeant? I get it. You found out about the new plan, somehow-"
"I was listening through the door just now."
"...You're really not allowed to do that."
"I really don't care."
"Frankie?" Rosie's voice echoed from the opposite end of the corridor, and she tried her best not to react as she heard his footsteps approaching behind her, felt a gentle hand on her arm. "What're you doing?"
"You know those orders are bullshit," Frankie continued, gaze never leaving Bennett. "And you're letting it happen because you're a fucking coward."
"Okay, Jesus Christ, let's go," Rosie spoke hurriedly, tugging on her arm. "Sir, I'm sorry about this."
"I'm not done-"
"Yes, you are."
The Lieutenant Colonel didn't get a chance to speak before Frankie was dragged out of his doorway, the door falling shut with a heavy thud as Rosie guided her away back down the hall.
"What the hell do you think you're doing? What was that?!"
"Plan A was to strangle him - I think it went well all things considered."
"Do not - what?!" Rosie shook his head, utterly dumbfounded as they stepped outside. "What are you doing?!"
Frankie stopped walking, turning on her heel to face him. "Those orders are gonna get these men killed. I mean, bait? Are they fucking serious?"
"Did you listen in on that entire conversation?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it. The point is, I'm sick of having to stand by and watch them give out these bullshit orders that nobody can stand up to. They're murdering those boys if they do this, they're-"
"I know!" Rosie exclaimed, raising his hands to her shoulders. "I know. I care about them too, you know I do, but they're making me Major now - I can lead them - I'm gonna do everything I can to bring them home."
"... Wait, what? They're making you Major?"
"So you missed that part?"
"I think I blacked out after the 'bait' thing."
"Yeah, I got that impression."
Frankie nodded for a long moment, gnawing at the inside of her cheek. "... I hate not being able to do anything."
"I know," Rosie reached for her hand, rubbing his thumb across her knuckles.
"I'm the one who'll have to clean your blood out of the seat if you don't make it," She stated, unable to meet his eye. He felt the colour drain from his cheeks. "They'll give me your footlocker. I don't - I don't know what to do with it, I don't-" The more she spoke the faster the words came tumbling out, spiralling out of control.
"Hey, hey," Rosie cooed, wrapping an arm around the back of her neck to pull her into his chest. "We're good. We're okay, it's gonna be okay. I'm gonna make it. I dunno if anyone's told you, but I'm kind of a big deal around here."
"Oh, shut up," Frankie thumped a fist against his shoulder, her voice barely audible, muffled against his jacket. When she pulled away she was fighting a smile, a red tint flushing her cheeks as she swept her hair out of her face.
"Seriously," He nodded, lifting his hands to cup her face. "It'll be alright."
"... Yeah."
