i don’t have much to say here because i was gay panicking over daisy. i have no regrets

“You need me to, uh, back you up, or...? / “You literally just got shot. Why are you out of bed?” no shits given and i respect that.

“All right, people, you heard her. Let's get to work.” you called her a hard-ass–correction, perceived her as a hard-ass–and complained about being treated as an agent when he isn’t one and now he’s flipped the script again. is this adapting and playing the long game because playing the long game got him shot, as was said.

“You’re getting good at this. You are.” SHE IS ISN’T SHE

“Women, huh?” like i said, a nuisance. (really, was this comment necessary?)

the ruby-daisy parallel is going strooooong here. something to be said about this on top of ruby being set for the destroyer of worlds project only for daisy to get the blame.

“It's her, isn't it? She's the Destroyer.” / “Yo-Yo, she's a kid. She is terrified.” interesting.

i really don’t know what to do with the fact that Yo-yo killed Ruby, specifically in the context of the team and the incoming conflict. idk, it’s true, Ruby can’t control herself, even before being infused with gravitonium, she was ready to chop off limbs from FitzSimmons when it didn’t go her way, chopped off Yo-yo's arms and is just really impulsive. but also, killing just sounds a little misplaced here, especially if the reason was because she was the "destroyer of worlds," her motivation was just to make her mother proud; like we're shooting the messenger but hey, no one's really asking for specifics. ultimately i’m glad she gets some reassurance from her mom before dying. (why do i feel like the writers made it a bigger deal than it actually was just for ~team conflict~)

i do have a nagging concern about the gravitonium, it absorbs consciousness, it's how Talbot got to use Daisy's powers in the other timeline/s because her powers are embedded in her subconscious by 5x21. does this mean that, in every other scene we see the gravitonium ( the Lighthouse, the Zephyr) in 5A, there are people in it? does this mean that in the previous timelines where Talbot absorbed Daisy (and/or Coulson, or someone else, since that scene in 5x22 was the only difference with the other timelines) they’re all drifting in space forever? even if some alien species got to extract it, it’s still like, what, five-ish people (Quinn, Hall, Creel, Talbot, Daisy-and/or someone else) stuck together forever? that sounds morbid. and sad. damn that’s dark.

gave myself a moment to breathe before watching this because i know this is where the fighting starts.

sick intro of Talbot reciting the coordinates. btw i looked up this place (43.9462, -76.1191, i realized these were essentially vectors) and i ended up at the United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor in upstate New York. Seems close enough to where River's End is bound to be

“The point is, you don't make that decision.” / “Then who does? You? We all have blood on our hands. Why am I being singled out?” this could’ve been a more interesting conversation if the writers didn’t choose the setting to be the damn Lighthouse Control. i wholly believe Daisy and Yo-yo could settle this in a calmer way than this but noooooo they can't have someone siding with Daisy here

“But this isn't about the decision, is it? This is about not following your orders.” / “It's about both.” yes with Daisy on the mutiny because what the hell guys. no to the invincibility shtick.

“Well, we didn't pick you.” Daisy's reaction… i am heartbroken. but also, SHIELD doesn't really pick who's in charge? It's who's next in command. Simmons was top brass in season 4 when Mace (and Coulson! and Mack!) were gone–see 4x10–and no one batted an eye. Why's it an issue when it's Daisy this time around?

“Coulson made that decision and brought you back when he could have broken that loop right there!” didn’t Daisy say something similar like ten episodes ago? i get why they disagree with killing Ruby but this, take it up with Coulson. Daisy didn’t want it either, but here we are.

“Yes, I made that decision.” THANK YOU

“As far as we can tell, both the Lighthouse and River's End have been cut off from the rest of the world.” even the town? how are people reacting up there? also note the flying alien shrimp (i’m sorry that ship looks like a damn shrimp) is casting shadows, shouldn’t someone do damage control or something?

“I am so stupid. Why am I still in here?” / “I'm sure there's a way around that.” LOL the timing

“So one flying saucer, probably no big deal.” it was a donut, Coulson, and that one’s descending on downtown Manhattan as we speak (oh shit things are getting Real this Early i hadn't thought of that). again, i maintain that this ship here looks like a SHRIMP

“You know I may run away, but I always come back to where I started.” / “I know. I just don't know if I'll be here when you do.” WHOA king dropped it a little bit cold. man, i don’t like this fighting. stop it!

“…our most powerful team member's gone.” i love every time someone acknowledges Daisy's strength just… this is an asian woman. i need a breather i’ve never had this before

“I killed Ruby for nothing. […] I could've warned myself about a lot of things. Ruby, Hale, these aliens but instead she told me… ‘Coulson is dying, and we need to let him.’” that's a good point. of everything, her warning is of Coulson dying. why. say, if Yo-yo hadn’t killed Ruby, Hale doesn’t sell them out, the Remorath doesn’t come, where does the centipede serum/odium kick in? unless there’s no version of events where Yo-yo doesn’t kill ruby. right okay that makes more sense

“Weird kid. Drew me a picture of a blue lady juggling someone's balls.” / “Pretty sure they were her balls.” okay lol i don’t remember this- OH SINARA 😭 that came out differently

“Garrett's cocktail had an extra healing component that was designed and developed by the Nazis, so that's impossible to get.” i can’t think of how personal this fight is to Daisy. destroyer of worlds being a Whitehall program, John Garrett, who was a head of Hydra they went up against on her FIRST days as a SHIELD agent, had not only centipede serum, which was how Daisy got into shield in the first place, but also Jiaying's DNA, her mom’s dna, (half of her own DNA*) keeping him alive, the reason why Ward was undercover at Coulson's team, which was then the GH-325 from the Kree corpse who was on its way to the Kree City where Inhumans initally went through Terrigenesis, where she went through the mist, not to mention Gideon Malick's capture (and death, all aided and abetted by Hive) setting Hale's plans with the Confederacy in motion after initiating contact from the Battle of New York all the way from the Avengers (which also happened in Daisy's ‘home state’ and where Coulson got killed, setting all of 1x01 up) and mechs guarding Hale's Hydra line of work (Ivanov just got put down for good like, two episodes ago)… i need a minute to wrap my head around all this

lol i remember seeing this for the first time three years ago being bummed and disinterested because daisy was only in it for like three scenes, i think this almost made me quit the show lmao

*also why I initially thought the Centipede serum's power augmentation effect was permanent with Daisy. The science fiction babble here is that the Centipede serum's basically a catalyst for either the healing capabilities of Jiaying's DNA–which was a unique component of Garrett's Centipede serum (yikes)–or the adrenaline high-self-destruct ones of the Odium. As Jiaying's direct descendant, the serum could've impacted Daisy permanently, yes? but i also get why it didn't, because, again, as Jiaying's descendant, the same thing with the GH-325 happened: no adverse effects with anything that was already there. Makes sense, considering Garrett was past saving with the Centipede serum (he had to be pumped with GH-325) whereas all injuries Daisy sustained throughout 5B (psychological and emotional notwithstanding) became nonexistent. but what i love about this is that, ultimately, her mom saved her just then. Jiaying was able to do right by her daughter in the end. and i'm glad she gets that, at the very least.

It just occured to me that Elena kind of had her own “Bahrain” moment in this episode.

She took one life in order to save others and now she has to live with that choice.

Granted, Ruby was a lot less innocent than that inhuman child was, but she was only like that because of Hale and arguably could have been saved. Plus, killing takes a toll on you regardless of who it is you kill. But Elena wasn’t willing to let Ruby live on the off chance that Daisy could get through to her. She knew Daisy wouldn’t kill her so she made a tough call. I think Daisy and the rest of the team should respect that.

Riverdale Thoughts

This is pure speculation, just some thoughts I’ve had about the current episodes. It’s also based on the fact that RAS said in his tvline interview, “ And in my mind, Rivervale is very horror and it’s very supernatural. It’s sort of a prelude to the rest of Season 6, which also sort of has very strong horror overtones and a supernatural overtone as well. So it sets the tone for the rest of the season, perhaps not as extreme, but it’s definitely setting the stage for a more mythic, apocalyptic Season 6.”   And this is going to take a minute.  I think that people felt that, if the couples got together because of a curse, then those couples would immediately break apart after Rivervale.  But what we don’t know is if (assuming curses are the cause of both) that both of them where caused by the same curse.

So, to kind of go back a bit in the story.  In the first four seasons of Riverdale it became clear that Hermione/Fred and Alice/FP had feelings for one another, but chose other people to marry for various reasons.  Most of them ended up miserable in life.  Which is why we kept hearing, especially Betty and Jughead, that they’re not their parents.  And then, in season 5, they became their parents.  But it looked like things could change and maybe the couples get back together.  Then, in 5x18 and 5x19, we suddenly have all these people who decide they want to be couples at the very same time we find out that over a hundred years ago Abigail cursed three families to suffer generation after generation (and, let’s face it, the family histories do seem to back that up).

So, basically, we have these four characters that may be going down the same road as their parents due to this curse.  At which point, Cheryl doubles down on the curse which makes these bad situations into nightmarish situations.  But then Cheryl’s curse is broken and it puts us back in Riverdale. Which solves part of the problem, but you still have Abigail’s curse to deal with.

Which could lead to the next part of the series.  The couples are still together because Abigail’s curse is still there.  But some of the characters are having flashes of Rivervale or questioning how real Abigail’s curse is. Not enough to like, turn to their current partner and say we should break up (although I do wonder if that might happen with Toni and Fangs).  But it might be enough for them to rethink things.  You know, what if this is real or, at the very least, it’s their subconscious telling them to rethink their path.  And because of this, things start breaking down in the new relationships.  

Like I said, this is all speculation based on the fact that, according to ‘Roberto, the supernatural does continue past the five episodes.  Personally, my belief is this.  The writers wanted to do supernatural and they wanted to play around with the couples.  But they set it up in such a vague way that, if the couples were popular, they could keep around for awhile and, if they weren’t as popular, they could break them up with the idea of the curse.

Before I begin, let me request everyone censor b*rchie in any and all future asks, because I will always be negative on it, and I am not a fan of having to screenshot the ask to 100% avoid my inevitably negative post showing up in the search.

When it comes to considering different povs on ship interactions, I like to keep this quote from Sawyer7Mage (which I’m also going to post separately, actually) in mind:

If you're driving a car on the road, and I'm sitting in the passenger seat and I look up ahead in the distance and I see a moose--which, in this case, the moose represents [ship 1]--if I see a moose, I have the obligation to tell you, "Hey, if we keep going, we're gonna hit a moose." But [ship 2] fans think they see a cat in the distance, okay, so they keep saying, "No, no, it's a cat, don't worry about it, it'll be fine." Okay, sooner or later that thing is going to be either a moose or a cat. So when the time comes, okay, and we finally hit whatever we're supposed to hit, I just don't want people telling me, "Why the fuck did we hit a moose, that makes no fucking sense." I've been telling you we were gonna hit a moose since, I don't know, fuckin' two years ago.

Which is to say, every ship has its evidence and its arguments, and we often won’t know for sure until everything is said and done; we won’t know if it’s a moose or a cat until we get there, at which point we can complain about how hitting a moose or a cat being in the road was fucking stupid as hell and we hate it.

Anyway, as for the bh kiss and potential jabitha ilu....

The bh kiss can be interpreted in multiple ways depending on the viewer's pov because that's just how media works a lot: we understand it through the lenses and biases we bring with us.  Our assumptions about the direction a work will take color our interpretation of how a story is currently playing out, so if the viewer's assumption is that we will return to bh in the end, the kiss reads differently than it does to someone who assumes we will never return to bh.

We can try and piece the direction together, yes, but the Riverdale writers are extremely unreliable, and significant changes sometimes are signaled and followed through on in only one or two episodes back-to-back (e.g. choni being kicked out of the Serpents, Jughead giving a shit about school in s4, ba cheating, Toni and Fangs getting together, choni breaking up, ba getting together at the end of s5, va breaking up in 5x18, choni getting together, kangs getting together, I'll even include bh getting together in s1 because--while a significant amount of time is spent on it and I think it's done well--most of that time is shoved into two episodes, are you seeing a pattern here).

Also, how the kiss happened, why, and what it did or did not achieve are not relevant to its looming nature; it's looming simply because it happened, and, since 6b is paralleling Rivervale, the question is "Will it happen again as a parallel, and, if so, when and why and what would it mean?"

(Also, don't bullshit me and try to tell me that what Betty and Archie have is love, especially in 5x19, after they previously mutually decided not to date each other because they didn't work, then didn't speak to each other for ten episodes, and then, only after Veronica and Archie broke up, randomly started dating (except they didn't agree they were dating, so I guess it was hooking up again?). That's not love, that's convenience.)

I will say, after 6x16 and 6x14, I don't think we'll be getting a parallel bh kiss; I think Jughead will hear or see the 6x05 kiss or whatever, and that will compound whatever the fuck they were doing with the end of 6x14 and Jughead's surge of bh kiss memories.  And I do think that that might lead into jabitha ilu as a Rivervale parallel, although that might pay off by Jughead hearing/seeing it instead of it also happening in a similar way.  Considering the "Love, Jughead", I do think we'll get one, and it's just a matter of how: will it involve a Rivervale parallel or will it connect to Jughead's certain death?  Because it’s going to be at least one of those, assuming it happens. After that though, who knows what’ll happen considering that “Dead End” foreshadowing.

But I think it’s still possible for bh to return; after all, the show spent four seasons--over half of the final length of the show--on it (including proposal and wedding imagery and foreshadowing), and that’s a lot to discard. But they’ve also put a number of eggs into the jabitha basket this past 1.5 seasons, so it’s gone from “likely bh” to “jfc, idk, man, idk”.

TL;DR The Riverdale writers change courses too quickly for us to be able to say, definitively, what direction the show will take when it comes to ships, so I will not completely discount the possibility of a bh return or bh-positive interpretations of events, even though I, personally, think we’re getting jabitha ilu, although god knows where things go from there.

So a lot actually happened in this episode, but I got distracted by lemons. As such this episode gets a 50000/10 on the Good Lemon Boy scale because legit. It was hilarious. Daisy gets a 50/10 on the Leadership is Hard scale because it is, and I don’t envy her having to make any of the choices she’s been having to make. And Elena gets my Brave But Controversial Award because she made a tough call that I don’t totally disagree with.
