I think they did an incredible job capturing Lucifer's essence in the new opening—in just one frame. That single image speaks volumes, not just about a specific moment in this season (which I won’t spoil), but about Lucifer as a character overall.

This depiction perfectly aligns with what Samael implied during their reunion in the War Declaration:

Lucifer is a being of contradictions. He presents himself as a saint, as someone striving for peace and reaching for the light, yet his actions betray the reality of his nature. He burns the world around him, not for justice or salvation, but because he believes that in the ashes of destruction, his own pain might finally end.

This isn’t a character seeking redemption or reconciliation—he’s carving a path to the light on a mountain of corpses, each step further solidifying his self-centered crusade. The brilliance of Lucifer lies in this dichotomy: a self-proclaimed savior who destroys everything in his pursuit of peace.

It’s tragic and infuriating because he genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing. But his version of "right" often means obliterating anything and anyone in his way, whether they deserve it or not. He’s not the hero he wants to be—he’s just a broken being trying to extinguish his own suffering, no matter the cost.
