Few legends we hear of are true.

In fact some of the finer details of the event that happened on this day in 1703 were lost as its was not permitted to be written about and only spoken of in hushed tones.

In order to avenge the death of Asano Naganori, by the actions of Kira Yishinaka. Forty seven samurai, no longer with a master and branded Ronin, formed a plan to set right the death lead by Oishi.

None of the Ronin came to harm in the storming of the castle but over forty of Kiras men were killed or injured.

In February of the same year, as punishment for their actions, however honorable, they would be allowed a warriors death by Seppuku. All except one, to continue the bloodline of great warriors.

Some official documents still survive of the incident and a shrine exists with the graves.

Warriors and honour should never be forgotten.

私が幼い頃は千葉真率いるJACが大人気だったこともあり 真田広之がアイドル的な人気を誇るアクションスターだったことも良く覚えているし 薬師丸ひろ子や小泉今日子といった80年代アイドルと共演してた時期も TBSドラマ「高校教師」で桜井幸子と道ならぬ恋に悩む教師を演じ 社会現象を巻き起こしたことも、「リング」で呪いのビデオの謎に挑む大学講師を演じたことも 全てをリアルタイムに見てきた。 そして、山田洋次監督が初めて撮った時代劇「たそがれ清兵衛」で主人公を演じ、 作品ともども絶��されたのを成果として、真田���活動拠点を日本から海外へと移した。 ハリウッド進出後はウォシャウスキー姉妹の「スピード・レーサー」や ヒュー・ジャックマンとの殺陣も話題になった「ウルヴァリン：SAMURAI」、 キアヌ・リーブスと共演した「47RONIN」など 著名な監督、ハリウッドの大スターと共演するも大きな成果は得られず、 どの作品もお世辞にも良作とは言いづらいものだったこともあり 2021年に「モータルコンバット」にハンゾウ役で出演した時は 「流れ流れてここまで来たか」と思ったりもした。 それから3年後で、まさかの大逆転ホームランである。 真田は役者であると同時に武道の達人でもあったため 「ウルヴァリン：SAMURAI」では監督のジェームズ・マンゴールドに 自らアクションの提案をし、ローガンとの二刀流対決を実現させたこともあったと 公開当時のインタビューで読んだ覚えがある。 作品への出演をきっかけに「正しい殺陣」「正しい日本人観」を少しずつハリウッドに根付かせてきた 真田の熱意が形となったのが「SHOGUN 将軍」であり、 違和感を徹底的に排除したこのドラマが海外で最高栄誉を獲得したことは 今後日本を舞台にしたり、日本人の登場する作品を作る上で大きな指針となることは間違いない。

Born in Tokyo, he was scouted by an entertainer while playing with the son of the actor Kokichi Takada who lived in the same condominium, and after working as a model for a magazine for young children, he joined the Himawari Theatre Group at the age of five. He made his film debut in 1966 in the ninkyo yakuza film Game of Chance (浪曲子守唄) starring Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba, reprising his role as Chiba's character's son in two sequels released the following year.

He is a Japanese actor and martial artist. He began his career in the mid-1960's at the age of six, and gained prominence for his roles in Japanese and Hong Kong action films, later establishing himself as a dramatic actor.

He made his first major Hollywood appearance portraying Ujio in The Last Samurai (2003), later appearing in such films as Sunshine (2007), Speed Racer (2008), The Wolverine, 47 Ronin (both 2013), Minions (2015), Life (2017), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Army of the Dead (2021), Bullet Train (2022), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). He also had a recurring role on the HBO series Westworld (2018–2020).

He is best known to international audiences for his roles as Ryuji Takayama in Ring (1998), Seibei Iguchi in The Twilight Samurai (2002), Ujio in The Last Samurai (2003), Kenji in Rush Hour 3 (2007), and Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion in Mortal Kombat (2021).

His role as 'The Fool' in the Shakespeare play King Lear also gave him notable theatrical notice in the United Kingdom.He has received numerous accolades, including two Japan Academy Film Prizes, three Blue Ribbon Awards for Best Actor, four Kinema Junpo Awards, and honors from the Yokohama Film Festival.

In 2018, he received the Medals of Honor with Purple Ribbon from the Japanese government for his "artistic developments, improvements and accomplishments."

「SHOGUN将軍」真田広之主演のハリウッド制作ドラマ・ディズニープラスで配信スタート

かつて、ハリウッド映画「ラストサムライ」に出演した真田広之さん。トム・クルーズ主演のこの映画で渡辺謙さんと共に強烈なサムライ像を全米に伝えました。その後は「ウルヴァリン：samurai」「アベンジャーズ/エンドゲーム」といったマーベル作品に出演。近年では、ハリウッドを代表する俳優の1人ブラッド・ピットと共演した「ブレッド・トレイン」さらには、こちらも大物キアヌ・リーブスと共演した「ジョンウィック・コンセクションズ」においてサムライのような存在感のある重要な役柄を熱演。

そしてついに、2月27日からディズニープラスで配信スタートしたハリウッド制作戦国ドラマ「SHOGUN 将軍」で主演に抜擢された真田広之さん。プロデューサーも兼任しており、これまでのハリウッドで描かれてきた日本人が見ると違和感のある「トンデモジャパン」を払拭して、日本人が見ても納得できる本物の日本を描く事にこだわり、出演者はもちろんスタッフも日本人が中心となって制作されたとの事です。

「SHOGUN 将軍」は、戦国時代の関ヶ原の戦いをモチーフにしたフィクションで、登場するキャラクターの多くは、モデルとなる歴史上の実在の人物が存在するようです。

吉井虎永（真田広之）：徳川家康 石堂和成（平岳大）：石田三成 戸田鞠子（ワイルドスピード/ジェトブレイクに出演していたアンナ・サワイ）：細川ガラシャ 落葉の方（二階堂ふみ）：淀殿＝茶々 按針(コズモ・ジャーヴィス)：ウィリアム・アダムス＝三浦按針

などが代表的な例です。

その他日本人俳優は西岡徳間さん、浅野忠信さん（真田広之さんとは「47RONIN」「モータルコンバット」でも共演。マーティン・スコセッシ監督の「沈黙-サイレンス」では宣教師の通詞役を演じました。）などが出演。

長らく続いた乱世の世に終止符を打ち、天下統一を果たした太閤は病床に伏したため、幼い息子が元服して新たな統治者となるまでの間、5人の有力大名を「五大老」に任命し合議制による政治を行うよう指示。「五大老」は日本を割ることなく平和を維持するためのものであったものの、太閤亡き後、五大老の中での確執が表面化。関東領主である五大老の1人の吉井虎永は他の四大老、石堂和成・杉山・大野・木山らから、その���地を狙われる事に・・・。孤立無援となった吉井虎永は、敵の包囲網が迫る中、石堂和成達と対峙することを決意する。というベースの物語に、表向きはキリスト教の布教活動と貿易が目的で日本に訪れていたポルトガル・スペイン人達の日本植民地化計画の陰謀やイエズス会（カトリック）のポルトガル・スペイン人宣教師達と、嵐で遭難して日本に漂着したイギリス船航海士 按針(プロテスタント）によるキリスト教の宗派による対立などを盛り込んだストーリーとなっています。

全10話のドラマの第1話と第2話しか現時点では見ていませんが、ＮＨＫの大河ドラマや日本の時代劇映画にも負けない本格的で細部にもこだわりを感じる作品となっており、これからの展開が楽しみです。

そう言えば、原作が同一小説の三船敏郎さん、島田陽子さん出演のアメリカ・ＮＢＣ制作ドラマ「SHOGUN 将軍」を、子供の時テレビで見た記憶がありますが内容は覚えていません。
