She is super cute and adorable, she’s as sour as a lemon despite her exterior, there’s one exception to who she’s sweet for; her girlfriend Blue! Also her real name is Vonnie, and that’s cute as hell.
Lemon Slice is a girl with brown hair up in a ponytail and light brown skin, she has a constant blush on her face. Her ponytail has a yellow bow on it, the bow strands flowing freely. She has blue/green heterochromia. She’s wearing a light yellow dress shirt with a checkered overall dress, which is a brighter yellow with darker bordering on orange stripes. Her socks and shoes are frilly, the same light yellow as her shirt, with a yellow button in the middle.

Pi is a fiesty preteen runaway who ends up experimented on by a corrupt research facility. She’s broken out by a found family of teenagers who escaped from the same place. Her parents never really took care of her so it takes time for her to trust new people.
She’s a little food insecure, loves climbing things, is really good at math, and all birds are her friends. She doesn’t know that her brother has been looking for her ever since she ran away from home.

Summer Squash and Basil Pasta
This week is such a blessing – cool evenings that make for perfect sleeping weather and perfectly sunny and warm daytime temperatures that make being at work soooo incredibly difficult. Us Midwesterners…we appreciate the little things, let me tell you.
I was heading home from a late meeting at the hospital and texted the nanny asking if she could give the girls a bath while I made dinner. Mark had a work dinner tonight and tomorrow’s picture day at school. She said they were just leaving the beach playground and would be home soon. Two very enjoyable minutes later, I got so jealous of the people eating out on a restaurant patio with lake views that I called Jess and asked if we could detour for dinner and so we pressed pause on baths to have dinner.
Us girls had a perfect late summer meal out on the patio – wine and all! It was perfection. I didn’t have to be inside making dinner and without dishes, there was plenty of time for me to do bath time…and a bit of a movie with snuggles in mom and dad’s bed before bed. 🙂
Sometimes, you just must take advantage of summer and all of its gifts…like the basil I used for this recipe.
Our garden has been MASS producing basil which only makes me sad because I’ll be paying big bucks for the fresh stuff in a few months, but for now…JACKPOT. Between picked fruit that we’ve frozen for the winter months and pesto, my freezers (all 3 of them!) are FULL.
I had to make something with basil and even better that it used up a ton of the zucchinis and yellow squashes my CSA has been delivering. The recipe looked fantastic, sounded super easy, and resulted in a meal loved by all. My girls nearly inhaled every last bite on their plates and I was texting my pasta, basil, cheese, and lemon-loving bestie the recipe before we’d even finished up!
Summer Squash and Basil Pasta

Prep time:  10 mins
Cook time:  20 mins
Total time:  30 mins
Serves: 7 servings (about 1¾ cups each)
Ingredients
¼ cup olive oil
8 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
2½ lbs zucchini and yellow squash (about 5 medium), quartered lengthwise, sliced
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp Ancho chili powder
1 lb large tube pasta
4 oz Parmesan, grated (about 1 cup)
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
½ cup torn basil leaves, divided
Instructions
Heat oil in a large, deep skillet over medium. Once hot, add garlic, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned around the edges, about 4 minutes. Add zucchini and squash; increase heat to medium-high; season with the salt. Cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the squash is jammy and soft. Sprinkle with chili powder and mix.
Meanwhile, cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water, stirring occasionally, until very al dente.
Transfer pasta to skillet with squash using a slotted spoon and add ½ cup pasta cooking liquid. Cook pasta, add Parmesan and more pasta cooking liquid as needed, until sauce coats pasta and pasta is al dente. Toss in lemon juice and most of the basil.
Serve hot and topped with remaining basil.

Updated NYC pizza ranking to include Artichoke.
The current ranking:
1. Roberta’s, 261 Moore St, Brooklyn – The restaurant itself is always packed. Go to the takeout pizza window 2 doors down and eat at the outdoor tiki bar. All of the pizzas I’ve ever tried are amazing, but my enduring favorites are the Famous Original and The White Guy.
2. Wheated, 905 Church Ave, Brooklyn – Dinner service only (opens at 6), with weird hours and holiday closings. I love the stuffed eggplant. My boyfriend loves the Gravesend pizza. They have a lot of house-made toppings at each table that are recommended additions – homemade sriracha, hot honey, etc.
3. Fortina, City Point Shopping Center/Dekalb Market Hall, 445 Albee Square W, Brooklyn – Much more accessible via subway than Roberta’s and Wheated. The Luigi Bianco and garlic bread are the agreed-upon favorites. I also like the margherita pizza. There was also a mushroom and lemon mayo pizza that was weird, but delicious. My meat-eating friends tell me the prosciutto pizza is nothing to write home about.
4. Artichoke, multiple locations (we went to the one in Bushwick) -- Eat in/take out by the slice. I prefer their white pizza to Fortina’s; my boyfriend prefers Fortina’s. Very crispy crust Sicilian. 
4. Barboncino, 781 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn – Sexy dark lighting date night pizza spot. Very close to the subway. Service is sometimes slow, so go on a night you may feel like lingering and chatting. The garlic bread is delicious, especially with burrata. Cheese slate if you’re feeling fancy. I like the arugula pizza (my boyfriend does not).
Honorable mention:
Pizzetta, 90 Livingston St, Brooklyn – Counter serve, by-the-slice. I love the Grandma slice. 
Two Bros, multiple locations, but we usually stop on the way to the City Point Shopping Center Trader Joe’s at 395 Flatbush Ave Ext, Brooklyn – Solid dollar slice. Counter serve, by-the-slice.
Rocco’s Pizza Joint, 162 7th Ave, New York – Counter serve, by-the-slice. Before I moved to NY, I had a whole wheat no-cheese loaded veggie slice here that defined NY pizza for me for a long time. Very greasy and the quality is inconsistent – the second time I went back closer to closing time and the pizza was just OK.
Shit list:
Best Pizza, Havemeyer St, Brooklyn – Started by a Roberta’s alum chef and reputed to have the best grandma slice in NY. Not bad pizza, but overall disappointing and not worth the hype. Their focus is on sourcing high-quality ingredients.
Macchina, 3rd Ave, NY – We went for the viral burrata pizza. Unimpressed.

Applebee’s Philippines Launches New Look and Menu
There’s always a reason to celebrate at Applebee’s Grill & Bar, and this time it’s for their newly-revamped menu. To commemorate their second anniversary this September, Applebee’s Philippines is showcasing its new menu filled with new exciting appetizers, salads, pasta, chicken, seafood, burgers and desserts. They are also offering their new Local Favorites featuring classic Filipino dishes that we all love.
The Hungry Kat dropped by Applebee’s BGC a few weeks ago to try out some of these new dishes. This is Applebee’s first Philippine outlet located at W Global Building near the corner of 30th Street and 9th Avenue in Bonifacio Global City. I still remember their VIP event two years ago (Read: Applebee’s Set To Open Its First Philippine Branch) which introduced me to this well-loved international franchise. They have since opened their second branch in Eastwood City, Libis and are now expanding their offerings with more delicious items, including a local craft beer called Engkanto that is making waves throughout the city.
Applebee’s started its operations in the U.S. in 1980 and is currently the biggest casual dining restaurant chain in America. It now has over 2,000 outlets in 16 countries worldwide. Applebee’s was brought to the country by Global Restaurants Concepts, Inc., the same company that manages other popular brands such as California Pizza Kitchen and IHOP.
Accompanying me for lunch that afternoon was Bob Vallar, Marketing Manager of Applebee’s Philippines who showed me how Applebee’s continues to provide a fun dining atmosphere where guests can #CelebrateEverything in the company of family and friends.
The restaurant is actually brandishing a new look for its menu which comes straight from the USA containing their new brand promise of Serving Up Good Times. It’s not just the menu cover, but also the delicious dishes inside which make each visit to Applebee’s a cherished occasion.
I started with a few of their new appetizers that can be shared and passed around the table while waiting for your main entrees.
The Spicy Shrimp Salad (Whole-₱765 / Half-₱445) is a healthy and tasty starter that will give salads a good reputation. It comes with fresh greens, cucumbers, feta cheese, toasted almonds, spicy grilled shrimp and grilled watermelon cubes in a creamy mint yoghurt dressing. The shrimps give it a savory taste while the grilled watermelon offer a smokey combination that is quite unique for a salad. This is just a half portion but it is good enough for two.
Another new appetizer is their Southern Beef Brisket Quesadilla (₱525) with its shredded slow-cooked seasoned beef brisket tossed in a chipotle lime salsa & jalapeno dressing then topped with assorted cheddar cheese. These are then placed inside a warm flour tortilla wrap and served with two kinds of sauces.
But this new pair at Applebee’s is destined to be a popular choice for those who want to have a great time bonding over good beer and good food.

One of our couples’ “hobbies” is going to different pizza places to establish a ranking of The Best Pizza in NYC. 
The current ranking:
1. Roberta’s, 261 Moore St, Brooklyn -- The restaurant itself is always packed. Go to the takeout pizza window 2 doors down and eat at the outdoor tiki bar. All of the pizzas I’ve ever tried are amazing, but my general favorites are the Famous Original and The White Guy. 
2. Wheated, 905 Church Ave, Brooklyn -- Dinner service only (opens at 6), with weird hours and holiday closings. I love the stuffed eggplant. My boyfriend loves the Gravesend pizza. They have a lot of house-made toppings at each table that are recommended additions -- homemade sriracha, hot honey, etc.
3. Fortina, City Point Shopping Center/Dekalb Market Hall, 445 Albee Square W, Brooklyn -- Much more accessible via subway than Roberta’s and Wheated. The Luigi Bianco and garlic bread are the agreed-upon favorites. I also like the margherita pizza. There was also a mushroom and lemon mayo pizza that was weird, but delicious. My meat-eating friends tell me the prosciutto pizza is nothing to write home about.
4. Barboncino, 781 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn -- Sexy dark lighting date night pizza spot. Very close to the subway. Service is sometimes slow, so go on a night you may feel like lingering and chatting. The garlic bread is delicious, especially with burrata. Cheese slate if you’re feeling fancy. I like the arugula pizza (my boyfriend does not). 
Honorable mention:
Pizzetta, 90 Livingston St, Brooklyn -- Counter servce, by-the-slice. I love the Grandma.
Two Bros, multiple locations, but we usually stop on the way to the City Point Shopping Center Trader Joe’s at 395 Flatbush Ave Ext, Brooklyn -- Solid dollar slice. Counter serve, by-the-slice.
Rocco’s Pizza Joint, 162 7th Ave, New York -- Counter serve, by-the-slice. Before I moved to NY, I had a whole wheat veggie slice here that defined NY pizza for me for a long time. Very greasy and the quality is inconsistent -- the second time I went back closer to closing time and the pizza was just OK. 
Shit list:
Best Pizza, Havemeyer St, Brooklyn -- Started by a Roberta’s alum chef and reputed to have the best grandma slice in NY. Not bad pizza, but overall disappointing.
Macchina, 3rd Ave, NY -- We went for the viral burrata pizza. Unimpressed.
