YOU'RE TRYING TO BEAT P-1 WITH ONLY PUNCHES?? HOW???? CAN I KNOW YOUR STRATEGY IF YOU HAVE ANY?????? THAT SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE WHAT'S THE FURTHEST YOU'VE GOTTEN SO FAR????????????????
Yeaj so i actually did beat it but it took 45 minutes and 10 deaths to the prison (more actually. that was just the session today) (Minos is easy as fuck he is the cooldown i parry-only him as a literal fun pastime). Strategy is just whiplash + knuckleblaster the eyes (kb shockwave does enough damage to kill them but the range is small and annoying since the eyes try to move away) and then do any possible damage to the prison (blue attack as always is the best damage potential but just whacking the shit out of it does decent damage if you have the time for that) (I recommend trying NOT parrying the orbs unless you need the health because kb shockwaving the projectiles into it can do mass damage). i like to kill all but 1 or 2 of the eyes before focusing on the prison just to save time because you can easily whiplash to them and kill them within the healing pause. Surviving isnt hard but actually making headway with the prison is hell

The cards I made that inspired that post: Kitty commits extreme violence!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#asks#custom cards#these are ultrakill references in case that wasn't obvious#almost broke from the traditional bloodrush template with Bloodstained because it was awkward#there's the +0/+2 from the base stats and the +2/+0 for each blood#but i figured it out!#i don't think bloodrush and bestow should be restricted to granting the exact stats and abilities of the creature#but it works just fine for these and i do like following templates and precedents#Bloodstained has been reworked twice while writing this#it was originally a 1-drop 0/1 that got +2/+0 for each blood but that lets you easily swing for 4 damage on turn 2#then it was a 1/1 with +1/+0 per blood but that made it basically a 2/1 Voldaren Epicure and Epicure is already really good#now it's a 2-drop. finally settled i hope#Perfect Killer needed no reworks because it's perfect#tho it turns out that 3-drop 3-power first strike is pretty rare without some additional cost or condition#barely even any “first strike during your turn”#only 3 common/uncommon that were ever standard. two were from Oath of the Gatewatch and i don't know if they're precedent#the other was Porcelain Legionnair which is basically a 2-drop 3/1 first strike because phyrexian mana. obviously broken#one of the ones from Gatewatch was an uncommon with straight-up first strike and an extra minor upside#but i don't know if it was reasonable because they haven't done it again#the other was a common with first strike on your turn and nothing else#i'm gonna say that mine is fine because multicolor and fairly minor upsides in addition to the “on your turn” limit#anyway glad to make more bloodrush cards! i love creatures i love combat tricks i love creature combat :D#also i originally just made Perfect Killer because i liked the Hexproof on your turn#but hexproof required blue and i wanted a monored card and i had blood tokens floating around my head so i made Bloodstained#and i decided that Bloodstained represents my casual runs while Perfect Killer represents my P-ranks

BLOG RULES
Don't like 2 of my posts in a row (meaning two posts which are chronologically adjacent) unless you have been following for at least 6 months and have attained level 2, rank 2 (Member) status (dm to ask your status and rank)
You are allowed to add 1 tag in each reblogged original post per level of your status multiplied by rank. If you dont follow me you may reblog, but dont add any tags.
Similarly additions to reblogs are limited to 5 words per level multiplied by rank.
To maintain your level and rank you must reblog at least 1 of my original posts daily, or queue 2 posts, without breaking any of the Blog Rules. Failure to do so will result in demotion by 1 level, or 1 rank if the level is already level 1. Blogs who fall below level 1 of rank 1 (Browser) will be softblocked.
Followers are required to like and reblog all original Audio posts made on this blog or said follower will be demoted 1 level for each minute of audio.
Followers who create any posts which mention anything pertaining or vaguely related to my dark past will be hard blocked at first notice and demoted of all levels and ranks and will be reported to the elders.
Followers below rank 3 (Green Suit) are not permitted to send Asks to my blog or any sideblog operated by me. Asks must include 1 apology for every conceivably annoying sentence and must address me as "Sir."
Swearing on any interaction of my Posts is prohibited. This includes Swearing, Cussing, Cursing, Toilet language (p**p, p*ss, etc.), Inappropriate words (depends on context of the Post), and Spiritually hostile language. Violation of this rule will result in one demotion of rank per offending word, level retained unless rank is demoted below 1 (Browser).
Criticism of my blog will be allowed during Open Improvement night which takes place during the first Thursday every month between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and is open to any Follower who is at least level 5 rank 4 (Red Suit). Criticism which is received by Followers of lower level and rank, or any Criticism which is received outside of Open Improvement hours will result in demotion of 1 level per 10 words of criticism, divided by initial Rank prior to sending unwarranted Criticism.
Comments on posts are enabled, but annoying comments will be reported for terrorism.
All interactions to posts must contain a maximum of 2 grammatical or spelling mistakes, multiplied by Rank. The exception is that no interaction to any of my Posts may end with a period (.), but this still counts towards the total number of mistakes. Refer to the following proofreading marks for details on what constitutes a mistake:
Tumblr media
The last Friday of every other month will be "Themed," meaning all original Posts and interactions upon my Posts must follow a particular typing gimmick, such as "Leetspeak." Interactions which do not contain the current Theme during the EST calendar day of the Themed day will result in loss of level equal to the number of words in the offending Interaction which do not comply with the rule. Spelling and grammatical mistakes still apply but up to 4 (multiplied by rank) are allowed during Theme day.
To raise level and Rank, Followers must like and/or reblog a certain number of Original Posts, limited per week and dependent on Rank. Each Rank contains 10 levels, and Rank is increased upon exceeding the Interaction requirements while level 10. A list of all Ranks is as follows:
Rank 1: Browser
Rank 2: Member
Rank 3: Green Suit
Rank 4: Red Suit
Rank 5: Blue Suit
Rank 6: Green Fellow
Rank 7: Blue Fellow
Rank 8: Red Fellow
Rank 9: Sir
Rank 10: Gold Sir
Rank 11: Stout Sir
Rank 12: Broad Sir
Rank 13: Pleasant Sir
Rank 14: Novice Official Sir
Rank 15: Apprentice Official Sir
Rank 16: Junior Official Sir
Rank 17: Senior Official Sir
Rank 18: Blue Official Sir
Rank 19: Red Official Sir

My dear lgbt+ kids,
What do you need to know about lgbt+ history as a lgbt+ person?
Well, if you ask like that: nothing, actually. You do not disqualify from being lgbt+ if you know nothing about history whatsoever. There’s no exam to pass.
It also doesn’t make you a bad person or a disgrace to the community or an embarrassment if you haven’t heard about a specific chapter of lgbt+ history yet - saying so would be really unfair! Maybe you live in a situation in which you don’t feel safe to do a lot of research on lgbt+ related stuff. Maybe you are a young person growing up in hard times and you’re busy just surviving. Maybe your brain works in a way that makes it harder for you to learn or retain new information than for others. Or hey, maybe you already know lots - but your learning simply focused on a different chapter than the one that hypothetical exam would be on!
Of course there are many benefits to learning about lgbt+ history. You get the general benefits of learning new things (such as training your critical thinking skills, which will help you in your everyday life, and even supporting your brain health!) but there’s also specific benefits to learning about this specific subject.
History isn’t all “learning boring stuff about dead people” - learning about past events and their consequences also helps you understand present events and gauge their potential consequences for your future. This will for example empower you in your voting decisions (or help you understand how politics influence everyday life at all, if that’s your starting point!).
Knowledge about lgbt+ history also helps you to notice misinformation more easily and enables you to counteract homophobic myths with facts.
It may even help you on a more personal level: reading up on all the people who came before you can foster a sense of identity and belonging. It might make you feel more confident to know that people like you have been around forever and have achieved so many things!
So, rather than “what do I need to know”, I think the much better question is “where do I want to start?”.
Nobody knows everything about lgbt+ history (or about any given topic, really!) and unrealistic expectations will only set you up for disappointment. It’s best to let your curiosity lead you! You’re much more likely to actually read up on something you are genuinely excited to learn about than something you’ve only been told to read.
With that in mind: it can feel overwhelming to pick a topic to start with! Especially if you’re pretty new to lgbt+ history, you may not even know where to start. So I do want to make some suggestions here. Not as a “you need to research all these today or else I’m revoking your license to gay”, just to spark your curiosity! I will not add explanations right here in the post, I just want to give you some terms you can easily put in the search bar. (Important: these are in random order, not ranked by importance or anything like that!)
US-Centric lgbt+ History
1. Stonewall Riots
2. Harvey Milk
3. Marsha P. Johnson
4. Sylvia Rivera
5. The Lavender Scare

8. The Mattachine Society
9. The Daughters of Bilitis
11. The AIDS crisis
12. Bayard Rustin
13. Lawrence v. Texas
14. The Gay Liberation Front
15. The Human Rights Campaign
European lgbt+ History
1. Section 28 (UK)
2. Oscar Wilde
3. Alan Turing
4. Magnus Hirschfeld
5. Paragraph 175 (Germany)
6. The Homomonument (Netherlands)
7. EuroPride
8. James Barry
9. The decriminalization of homosexuality in the UK (1967)
10. ILGA-Europe
11. Homosexual Law Reform Act 1986 (New Zealand, part of the Commonwealth)
12. The Equality Act 2010 (UK)
13. Transgender Europe (TGEU)
14. The first same-sex marriage in the Netherlands (2001)
15. Dora Richter
Have fun learning!
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
P.S: You may wonder “But what about places other than the USA or Europe?” (or those of you who already know a lot about lgbt+ history, “but what about (topic I haven’t mentioned here)”) - and that’s actually a really great point! It highlights what we talked about above: nobody knows everything + lgbt+ history is way too rich of a topic to put it all into one short list! This isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list of everything important, just some potential starting points that hopefully lead you to topics beyond ones mentioned on this list.

Ah, coffee. The nectar of the gods. Both a blessing and a curse in one.
When it had first made it's way into Hell, Lucifer hadn't given it much thought. Tea had been the go-to wake up drink for thousands of years, and while a nice drink, it had never done much for him in the stimulant department. He had maintained for years that coffee would likely have the same lack of effect as tea.
Right up until he'd had his first cup of joe.
And hadn't he been wrong. He'd nearly been bouncing off the walls for hours, before spectacularly crashing later that day. It had taken some experimentation, but he had found that if he drank half a cup of coffee over an hour, followed by slowly consuming the rest over the course of the day, it gave him the boast he needed without sending into an energy-high followed by a massive energy-crash.
Oh, what he wouldn't have done to have coffee for those first couple of years after Charlie was born. Lilith may have become Charlie's main caretaker following her toddler years, but Lucifer had been her go-to parent for those first several years.
Easy baby or not, Charlie had never had much of a sleep schedule. It was something that had followed her into her adult years. Lucifer was fairly certain that was his fault, as that was a trait they had in common. Lilith had been an early to bed, early to rise sort of person. Worse, she was a morning person.
Since mastering the art of drinking coffee, Lucifer had joined the rank of coffee lovers and dependents, unable and/or unwilling to start his day without one. Some days, it really was the only thing that woke him up.
That particular morning was one such morning. He had been up most of the night, first at the ceremony and then taking hours to unwind enough to sleep. He had eventually fallen asleep in the early hours of the morning, not that long before people would start waking up and starting their day.
Half asleep, despite the late morning hour, he wandered downstairs to the kitchen. As he passed the foyer, he thought he saw Angel and Cherri suspiciously hide their faces behind their hands as they whispered to each other. Charlie and Vaggie were huddled off to the side, the former making some rather extravagant hand motions at the latter. Husk might have looked like he had swallowed a lemon, which didn't look too far off from his usual disgruntled mood, so it it didn't set off any alarm bells.
If Lucifer had been more awake, he might have guessed what all the fuss was about. He might also have brewed his coffee and then immediately teleported back to his room to avoid any gossip about his (lack of) love life.
As it was, he wasn't a fully functioning fallen seraphim until the caffeine started to hit his blood stream and he missed all the cues.
Twenty minutes later, Lucifer walked back out of the kitchen with his prize in hand. The cup was already a third of the way drank, steam still rising up out of the cup to show it was pipping hot. Caffeine not having had remotely enough time to work it's magic, Lucifer proceeded to make his first mistake of the day.
He walked into the main-lobby-slash-living-room.
Charlie immediately tuned into his presence the moment he walked into the room, which should have been a clue she was on the look out for him. Her vaguely nervous expression should have been another one.
Lucifer, in his sleepy state, only picked up on the latter one. "Morning, Char-Char." He wrapped his hands around the cup, letting the heat seep into his fingers. "Everything alright?"
Charlie took a deep breathe, rubbing at the back of her head. "Well, dad, we, um..." She trailed off, her gaze flinting over towards her girlfriend, who held both of her thumbs up in encouragement. Charlie smiled, but the quality of it fell between strained and for real, which only served to alarm Lucifer even more. Pressing her hands together, she pointed both of her pointer fingers at him. "We wanted to congratulate you."
"Congratulate me? On what?" Lucifer had the nagging feeling he was forgetting something. Not for the first time, he cursed the fact that he just wasn't a morning person. Getting the strong impression he was going to want to be awake as possible for this conversation, he proceeded to make his second mistake of the morning.
He went to take another gulp of coffee, just as Charlie said, "Well, on your new relationship with Alastor!"
Lucifer choked, the coffee going down the wrong pipe, something he had always felt was a bit unfair considering he was never quite certain if seraphim had lungs. It somehow still never stopped him from nearly choking when someone said something so outlandish it was outright ludicrous. Startled, Charlie darted forward, hand patting his back as he attempted to wheeze and hack up a possibly non-existent lung.
When he felt capable of talking without immediately coughing, he managed a half strangled, "What... relationship?"
Charlie exchanged another look with Vaggie. She continued to rub his back as she explained, "Well, we saw the videos of your dancing with Alastor and thought..."
The blonde king placed his head in his hand, suddenly understanding the, well, misunderstanding. He had known people were going to draw conclusions, but he hadn't thought about how it would look to Charlie. She had known they were going to the ceremony together, but he somehow doubt it had crossed her mind that it might go as far as an evening full of dancing.
"There's no relationship," he denied, running his hand down his face. "No relationship what-so-ever, really." He smiled at her reassuringly. "Alastor just likes to dance."
In a show of how comfortable Angel had gotten around him, the porn star shamelessly pointed out, "He wasn't the only one enjoying that dance." He leaned his chin on his hand, smile outright teasing and knowing. "Looked like you were going to do a bit more than dance for a moment there."
Lucifer's treacherous mind went back to the moment in question: the moment where all it would have taken was leaning just a little bit forward, and then they would have been ki--
He ruthlessly cut off the thought as he felt his cheeks heating up. He had resolutely refused to think of that moment since it had happened. He had refused to think about the fact that it had been haunting his dreams during what little sleep he had gotten. He was certainly not going to think about that moment in front of his daughter, her girlfriend, and her friends.
He cleared his throat, holding up one of his hands. "There is no relationship," he emphasized. He turned to Charlie, taking hold of one of her hands in his own. "I don't know if there will ever be anyone after your mother, but if there ever is, I promise I will tell you." He paused, adding, "Preferably before it winds up on a gossip rag."
She smiled at him, relief visible in her eyes. She patted the back of his hand with her free one. Supportive, she said, "I'm not going to say I wouldn't be thrilled if you and mom got back together, dad, but I just want you to be happy." Her mouth twisted at the corners. "Even if it's with Alastor."
Lucifer winced. "Not happening." He took back his hand, wrapping it back around his mug to give himself something to hold onto. Turning to the hotel's oldest resident, he asked, "How... bad is it?"
He didn't need to explain what 'it' was.
"Oh, it's bad." The spider sinner giggled as he held up his phone, a news headline in big bold letters read, THE KING OF HELL SHACKING IT UP WITH THE RADIO DEMON? "It's been all 666 News would talk about last night."
Lucifer resisted the urge to put his face back in his hand or retreat back up into his room and not come out for the next century. It could really go either way, at that point.
A touch of sympathy could be found in Angel's eyes as he said, voice as close to reassuring as the blonde had ever heard it, "Aw, don't worry, your Majesty. I'm sure it'll blow over as soon as the next scandal pops up."
Which, knowing Hell, wouldn't be that long.
Lucifer internally groaned. It wouldn't be soon enough, if one were to ask him. He almost glanced up at the ceiling, towards the direction of Alastor's radio station and suite. He wondered if the Overlord had seen the news and how he was responding to it.
Knowing him, he was likely thinking of how to spin all of this in his favor, if he decided to entertain it at all.
Unwilling to let the news or thoughts of a certain radio demon sour his morning any further than they already had, Lucifer scrambled to change the subject. "So, how are things going with the trust exercises?" He didn't have to try hard to look interested in his daughter's latest plans, although he mentally apologized that he was mostly asking to distract her from his own issues. "Thought of any new ones?"
Charlie, bless her, was all too happy to talk about her latest plans. Snagging his arm, she tugged him over to a corkboard she had set up. Various hand drawn notes and print outs were pinned to the board. Some had parts of them crossed out, while a few had stars on them. "I think I have some new ideas!" She pointed to the ones with the stars on them. "I was thinking maybe we could try this one out at the next meeting." There was nothing forced about this smile when she turned it on him. "What do you think?"
Happy to have something else to think about and even more happy to have her asking for his impute on anything, he squinted at the page she was pointing to. On it, it gave detailed instructions about different team building exercises and how to carry them out. The one in particular that she was pointing to was called, 'Human Knot.'
It appeared to be fairly simple. A group of people stood around in a circle and got themselves 'tangled up' by taking the hands of two other people. The goal of the exercise was for the group to untangle themselves without letting go of anyone's hands. It sounded like it might be a fun activity, if everyone was willing to get touchy-feely with everyone.
Alastor would never agree to participate in this. Lucifer wasn't certain he would enjoy participating in this, either. The thought of touching so many people who weren't family or close friends was overwhelming. At least, while sober. It gave him too many Twister vibes and the less he thought about that game the better.
There was a reason it was Asmodeus' favorite 'family' game.
Scurrying out of the wood work, Niffty appeared with a needle the length of her head. Speared through on the end of it was a cockroach the size of her hand. Disturbingly enough, it was still twitching. She peered up at the board, her eye lighting up at the details of the trust exercise. "Ooooo! That one looks fun." She peered up at Lucifer in that way she did that always set his hackles up. "I can hold hands with all the bad boys in the room..."
Lucifer laughed nervously as she scurried off as quickly as she had appeared. Something of his true feelings must have shown on his face, because Charlie's smile was beginning to slip. Which was just not allowed. "It's fine," he rushed to reassure her. "I'm just worried not everyone will want to participate, because of the level of touching." Desperate to save her good mood, Lucifer pointed to the option underneath the one she had showed him. "What about this one?"
She leaned in, reading the name. "Two Truths and a Lie?" It wasn't one she had starred and her tone was a bit dubious.
Angel appeared at their side. He stabbed the board with a finger. "Now there's a fun game, especially if you turn it into a drinking game." He waggled his eyebrows at them, suggestively.
Vaggie rolled her eyes. She came up behind the sinner, her hands on her hips. "We are not doing any drinking games during trust exercises."
The sinner pouted at her. "Is it your mission to suck all the joy out of my life?"
The former exterminator was unimpressed. Ignoring his theatrics, she asked, "What does the game entail?"
Angel's phone pinged with a notification. Loosing interest in the conversation in favor of whatever it was, he wandered off across the room to pull it up. Out of the corner of his eye, Lucifer saw the spider demon become caught up in what sounded like a video clip, he wasn't paying enough attention to make out the audio.
Feeling invested now that he was interested in potentially participating, Lucifer jumped in to answer. "Pretty much what it says on the tin. You tell two things that are true about yourself, along with a lie. The goal is for everyone to try and figure out which is the lie."
Charlie tilted her head to the side. "And this is supposed to... build trust?"
Vaggie seemed to be catching on. "It's a way to get to know people, babe. You get to tell people thinks about yourself, while they try to see how well they know you in return."
The host of the hotel didn't look convinced.
Lucifer cracked a grin. "Come on, it sounds like it'll be fun, Charlie." He lightly patted her on the arm. "We could try it out now and see what you think?"
She looked to him, and then to Vaggie, who nodded. Charlie mulled over it, before nodding her head. "Okay! If everyone wants to play it, then we can do it during the next trust exercise." Getting more excited the longer she thought about it, she hugged her father around the shoulders with a single arm pulling him in tight against her. With her other hand, she pointed a finger to the ceiling. "We could have a meeting right now, in fact!"
"Uh, I hate to interrupt," Angel cut in, coming back towards them. His tone more than anything, caught their attention. He sounded horrified. "You guys might want to see this."
Lucifer, Vaggie and Charlie shared a glance between themselves. They all gathered around Angel's phone, which he had turned around to face them. Tapping the play button to start the video, a familiar voice came out of the teeny speakers.
"Breaking news: A new video was dropped today showing not everyone played an equal role in the fight on Extermination Day." Katie Killjoy's face was replaced by an aerial shot of the roof of the Hazbin Hotel. In the background, angels flooded the skies, hinting as to what day the video had been recorded. The recording itself appeared to be mid fight between what was quickly identified to be Adam and Alastor. Lucifer's eyes widened, his stomach dropping as he realized that despite having taking on the most powerful angel to visit Hell after Lucifer, Alastor didn't have any angelic weapons on him.
Why? Why would he be so reckless. Lucifer had seen the shield wielding angelic spears, so why didn't Alastor have any?
Holy shit, he had actually taken him on with just his own shadows.
The recording fizzled, temporarily cutting off as Alastor throwing Adam into the old hotel sign. Lucifer's blood turned cold as it phased back in, just in time for Adam's guitar to come down and slice effortlessly through Alastor's staff. The radio host looked confused for a moment, before realizing the extent of the damage. This much Lucifer had already deduced from seeing Alastor's broken staff weeks ago and while he had been suspicious that more had happened, it was still difficult to watch what happened next.
"It seems Hell's resident old timer bit off more than he could chew," Katie was narrating as Adam swung his guitar - made of pure angelic grace - straight across Alastor's chest, sending the sinner soaring across the roof. His momentum was only stopped as he hit the barrier. The sinner crumpled to the roof, blood splattering the ground beside him, damning evidence that had disappeared when the hotel had been nearly destroyed in Adam's attack not that long afterwards.
Tiny hands and feet scrambled up Lucifer's back, signaling Niffty's return. She must have been drawn back by the commotion. Normally, he would have been extremely uncomfortable with being used as a living cat tree for her to climb, but in this instance he was too absorbed by video to pay her much attention. A part of him also knew that she and Alastor was close, whatever their relationship was with each other. It would have been more surprising if she hadn't shown up.
"He needed so many stiches after that." Niffty made a low, mournful noise at the sight that greeted her on the phone's screen. "He was in so much pain..."
Lucifer's whole body froze up. Alastor had needed stiches?
As if coming unfrozen, Charlie gasped in horror, her hands flying to cover her mouth. Vaggie's expression was grim as she placed a hand on her elbow. As angels who had seen the kind of damage angelic grace could do to sinners, rare that such a weapon was employed, Lucifer and Vaggie both knew that such a wound should have been fatal.
Lucifer had thought that Alastor's staff had taken the brunt of the attack. That maybe he had only been grazed, at worse. That should have been the extent of the damage.
It had never occurred to him that Alastor might have taken the attack full on.
It was baffling that Alastor was still alive.
The video didn't come with audio, so they couldn't hear what Alastor was saying as he did the first smart thing he had done since he decided to take on Adam without a useful weapon and retreated. "And there you have it everyone," Katie was saying, her tone and smile gleeful as she soaked in the suffering of someone who had quite the distance to fall. "The supposedly big bad Radio Demon running away like a with his teeny, tiny, fluffy little tail between his legs like the fucking coward that he is."
The screen pulled away to show her cohost, Tom Trench. "Do you think he ran off to wherever he was hiding for seven years?"
"Who gives a shit, Tom." Katie turned her head in such a way that it appeared to break her neck. "He's a washed up has-been who should have stayed away--"
The phone disappeared, Charlie having darted forward and hit the pause button. Her hands hid the screen from view.
For a long moment, the present group blankly stared off into the middle distance, trying to digest what they had just seen. Each of their faces ranged from out right horrified (Charlie's) to grim (Vaggie's and Husk's) to some level of worried (Angel's). All of them were thinking the same thing: about Alastor's disappearance for several days as they rebuilt the hotel and the varying degrees of relief everyone had felt when he'd reappeared, seemingly just fine save his missing staff.
No one had questioned why he'd disappeared.
No one had followed up to make certain he wasn't hiding a wound and potentially actively dying.
But now they all knew. There was no unseeing this, just as there had been no unseeing Sir Pentious' last moments as Adam vaporized him like he was nothing.
Lucifer, personally, was kicking himself for not checking on the wound when he had Alastor trapped. He had known something was potentially wrong - had seen the evidence in the damage to the microphone - and yet he had allowed Alastor to side track him like a willfully blind fool dancing to the piper's tune.
Lucifer found himself moving before he'd even made the conscious decision to do so. He plucked Niffty off his back, the little maid making no protest as she was lightly placed down on the ground. His cup of coffee went onto the coffee table. The moment his hands were free, he was preparing to open a portal to Alastor's room.
"Dad?" Charlie's voice calling out to him made him pause.
He turned to her, placing a hand on her other elbow. "I'm just going to check on him."
She placed her own hand over his, squeezing it as she bit her lip. "Dad, you saw how badly he was hurt." Guilt was visibly crashing down over her as her eyes welling up with tears. "I knew something was wrong. Why didn't I check to see if he was okay?" Vaggie stepped in and hugged her as Lucifer squeezed her arm.
"He clearly didn't want any of us to know he was hurt." He debated saying anything about the blood drinking. Alastor had looked tremendously better afterwards and it might go a long way to easing some of her worries about how injured the sinner was. He just didn't know how to explain how they had gotten to that part.
He decided to settle for a partial truth. "He didn't tell me how hurt he was, but he's already let me help him some." Charlie sniffled, turning hopeful eyes on him. "If I had to guess, I'd say the wound is all healed up." He smiled at her reassuringly. "I'll see if I can get him to let me check to make certain everything is better, okay?"
She nodded, wiping at a tear. "Just, make certain he's okay." She moaned, low and wounded. "I can't lose him too, dad."
Lucifer looked to Vaggie, who nodded back to him. "I got her, sir."
Lucifer stepped back. His instinct to stay and comfort his offspring at war with his desire to make certain Alastor was okay. The only reason he was going to be able to do so was because Vaggie had her and he was likely the only person who could make certain their resident radio host wasn't being eaten up from the inside out by any residual grace Adam might have left behind.
A quick burst of magic opened a portal directly into Alastor's room. He stepped through without waiting to see if Alastor might need any privacy, not wanting the sinner to potentially turn him away. He was going to get that idiot into letting him inspect that wound once and for all, even if he had to sit on him to do it.
Curse Alastor and his stupid pride for not having said anything! He could have put in it the favors with his microphone, for crying out loud.
"Alastor!" His voice echoed through the room, disappearing off into the bayou. Lucifer scoured the sinner's room from top to bottom. He didn't see him in his bed, nor at the fireplace, nor at his little table in the bayou. He raised his voice to as loud as he could make it without causing any damage. "Come out, you asshole, before I hunt you down!"
No response.
There was a possibility he was out in the bayou, as there was no way of being sure how far out it extended without going out into it. He had one foot out on the grass, when the old fashioned radio on Alastor's bookshelf crackled to life.
"Greetings, sinners! It's come to my attention that there seems to be some questions about my health recently."
Lucifer threw himself across the room, grabbing hold of the radio. His head darted up as he stared up at the ceiling. He could teleport himself into the station, but that risked interrupting the Radio Demon's broadcast. Until he knew what exactly the sinner was planning, he didn't want to spook him.
It didn't mean he couldn't keep an eye on him, though.
He crossed the room in seconds, throwing open a window. Looking up, he could see the On Air sign was lit, indicating that Alastor was indeed in his radio tower. Launched himself out of the window, Lucifer took flight as Alastor said through the radio, "Never fear, dear listeners, because nothing as simple as a silly angel could take out the Radio Demon."
Lucifer snorted, coming up to hover in full view of studio. 'Silly angel,' he calls an actual archangel that had destroyed the hotel and by all rights should have killed him.
Inside the studio, Alastor spotted him. The sinner's eyes were aglow, pupils turned to dials. He had grown as large as the room would allow him to get without taking the roof off, antlers extended out like fingers reaching out to the sides of the room. A bright green 'x' marked the spot on his forehead. As his eyes fell on the little king, a streak of black drool dribbled down his chin as his smile elongated far beyond what should have been possible for his face. His fingers twitched and curled, a single finger pointing to the other side of the tower. "In fact, I think a certain voyeur needs a little reminder as to why he should mind his own business."
Lucifer frowned, not understanding what Alastor planned to do at first. It was only because he had come out the side of the hotel, furthest from his own room, that he isn't hit by the powerful wave of radio waves bursting forth from the tower. Startled, he jerked out of the way, spinning around mid-air to see where they were going.
He watched, unsurprised to see them heading for VoxTek. It figured that Vox was behind the video. He'd had footage of other parts of the fight, it shouldn't be surprising he had been spying on Alastor when Adam had come a calling. When he didn't see another wave leave the tower, he chanced moving around the obstruction the tower made of the view to better see what effect that wave was going to have.
It was difficult to see from that distance, but he could just make out the wave hitting the satellite. Could see the plum of smoke rising up as the machinery went dead. The satellite was still standing, but it likely wasn't operational. At least, not for the moment.
He raised an eyebrow at the redhead through the window. Petty, much?
Depending on how terrible the Alastor's eyesight was - deer had notoriously bad eyesight- it was entirely possible he couldn't see the damage he had inflicted himself. Regardless of his poor eyesight, he somehow knew anyway, perhaps having that much confidence in his attack. Alastor's grin was pleased as a cat having caught a canary. "Friendly reminder that I won't be as lenient next time."
The radio in Lucifer's arms cut off with a crackle as Alastor reached out and flicked a switch on his board. The two stared at each other, waiting to see what the other planned to do next.
When Alastor didn't move other than to settle back down into his more default appearance, Lucifer decided to come to him. He disappeared in a swirl of magic, reappearing a moment later in the studio. He fully materialized back into being behind the redhead.
Alastor didn't turn around, continuing his work as if he didn't have his back to someone who could easily kill him with a flick of the wrist. Lucifer took the time to study him more in depth than he had in the previous months. The sinner didn't move like he was in pain. Then again, he never had. The only indication he had ever given that something was off was when he never called on his microphone in the months before he got Lucifer to repair it.
There was nothing to tell he had ever taken a hit of pure angelic grace to the chest. Lucifer didn't feel anything coming off him either.
A visual inspection wasn't going to be enough, when it came to this kind of wound. If he was to do a proper inspection, he was going to have to talk Alastor into letting him touch him. It was almost a shame he hadn't known when he was healing Alastor's ribs and side two nights ago. He could have checked then and this whole conversation could have been avoided.
The silence extended. Lucifer was suspicious Alastor knew why he was here and was planning to wait him out. The little king fiddled with the radio's dials, suddenly glad he had decided to grab it, if only to give him something to do with his hands. One of them was going to have to kick start this conversation. It might as well be him. "You didn't say Adam got you in the chest."
The sinner made that little 'hm' sound he liked to make. It could have been in response to what the blonde had said. It could have just been in response to something Alastor was seeing on his equipment.
"Angelic grace is bad for sinners, you know." Lucifer's hold on the radio tightened, not quite certain if he was being ignored or not. "It can grow like a cancer until it burns you up from the inside out." He leaned from foot to foot, feeling more twitchy the longer Alastor didn't speak to him. He stopped the moment he noticed he was doing it. "You should have said something."
Whatever Alastor was looking for, he seemed to find for he nodded at his equipment in satisfaction. He finally rose up off his settee, the movement as fluid as ever. "There was nothing to worry about." He stepped around the furniture, waving off the concern as if batting away a fly. "I had it handled."
"'Handled'?" Lucifer's eyes narrowed, suspicious. "Handled how, exactly? By having Niffty sew you up?" His grip tightened on the radio, enough to make it give a little creak of protest, but not enough to truly threaten to break it. "You couldn't have known I was going to offer my blood. And just because it healed the physical wound that doesn't mean it cleared the grace."
Alastor's eyes zeroed in on his radio in Lucifer's hands. The thinning of his lips indicated he wasn't thrilled with the idea of his property coming to damage. "What exactly do you propose to do?" He reached out to reclaim the radio.
Lucifer took a step back, keeping himself and the radio out of arms reach. "Let me check the wound."
The sinner's fingers twitched before curling in. He let the hand drop. "What does that entail?" He followed after the blonde, first one step and then another, meeting each retreat with an advance.
Lucifer continued to back away until his back hit the window. On reflex, he glanced behind him. All that stood between himself and a drop was a thick panel of glass.
Alastor took advantage of his distraction to steal back his radio. "Out with it. You're too twitchy for this to be a simple look over."
The blonde flexed his hands, now empty of anything to use for stress relief. "No, I'd have to touch your bare skin to be sure there's nothing there."
The hand not holding the radio came up, all four finger splaying out as Alastor laughed out a short, sharp, "Ha!" He wagged a single finger of the same hand at the seraphim. "Not going to happen!"
Before Lucifer could protest or attempt to make his case, Alastor disappeared into his shadows. He scurried past him, slipping down the trap door and out of the studio.
Lucifer stared at where the redhead had just been, gapping. That... That idiot! Didn't he hear the part where he could be infected with the equivalent of a deadly poison that could be eating him up from the inside out?
Growling, Lucifer opened a portal back down into Alastor's room. If Alastor wanted to see who was more stubborn, the hundred-something year old sinner or the first sinner himself, Lucifer was more than up for the challenge. Stepping through, he found Alastor over by his book shelf, returning the radio back to it's prior resting place.
Frustrated, Lucifer marched over to him, seriously considering throwing up a barrier around the room to keep Alastor from running away again. "Hey! I wasn't done with you, mister!"
Alastor finished setting the radio to his preference, and then turned around to meet him head on. "I hardly see how we have anything more to talk about." He placed his hands behind his back, the very picture of unconcerned. "I've already declined your offer."
Lucifer threw his hands up. "Aren't you worried? This isn't a game! This could be your life on the line!"
Alastor leaned in to his personal space, his lips starting to twist into a smug, cat like grin. "Tell me, sire, why are you so worried?"
"Hello? Really?" Lucifer crossed his arms, defensive. "Have I not said that if Charlie cares than I care?" He sighed, looking away and begrudgingly adding, "She was really upset when you went missing and it would break her heart if something happened to you."
Alastor considered him for a long moment. Suddenly, a very loud buzzer tore through the air, causing the blonde to jump. "Hm, no, I think not." He flicked at one of the Lucifer's blonde flyways with a single finger, eyeing him up and down as the shorter of the two glared at him. "You know, I could almost believe that was the reason." He leaned away, tapping his chin. "But we both know that's not the whole truth."
He stepped around him, walking away and putting some distance between them. "I propose a little deal."
Lucifer scoffed, defense turning to irritation. He was starting to regret attempting to help this asshole. "You can't be serious."
Coming to a stop half way across the room, Alastor came to a halt. "Oh, come now, sire. Not that kind of deal." He spun around, one heel coming together to click against the other. One hand settled against the small of his back, while his staff appeared in the other. He used it to point at his uninvited guest. "If you tell me the real reason you care so much and I like the answer, I'll let you see for yourself that I'm perfectly fine."
He almost couldn't believe his ears. Lucifer stared at him, incredulous. "Are you actually holding your life hostage over this??"
Alastor twirled his staff, a mock considering look on his face. He shrugged, far too nonchalant for the subject. "Hm, I guess I am."
Lucifer could feel his self control fraying at the edges. He had clearly been far too lenient with this sinner if Alastor wasn't even remotely taking him seriously. He held up his hand, palm facing the redhead. It would be easy to just knock him right off his feet with a small burst of power and hold him in place while he just checked to see if he wasn't actively dying. He really ought to. It might just remind this arrogant little sinner who was at the top of the food chain and who was at the bottom between the two of them.
Alastor stared at him down, patiently waiting him out.
After several long moments of arguing with himself, Lucifer lowered his hand. He hissed, as much at himself as it was at Alastor. He couldn't do this by force, not because he wasn't incapable of doing so, but because he was trying to get Alastor to agree of his own free will. "Fine!" He stalked over to the deer demon, coming to a stop just before actually touching him. Pointing his finger up at Alastor's chin, he confessed, "Fine, I'm worried because I'm a fool and I actually care about you! I would be genuinely upset if something happened to you, are you happy??" He pointed at the bed behind the redhead, nearly breathing fire as he growled, "Now sit down and let me help you."
Alastor nodded at him. "There we go, your Majesty. Isn't it better to tell the truth?"
"Sit!" Lucifer pointed at the bed, this time with more emphasis, his tone making it abundantly clear he was not going to repeat himself again.
The redhead proceeded to show that he had some self preservation instincts in that stubborn head of his, because he didn't press Lucifer's buttons again. He took a seat on the edge of the bed, crossing his legs and settling his hands on his knees, body language just as carefree as ever. "Would any skin do?" He held up his hand, indicating he was willing to take his glove off to give him access to bare skin.
Lucifer took a series of deep, calming breaths. He was tempted to just smother the redhead, but since that would defeat the purpose of preserving his life, the blonde put the idea on the back burner to come back to later. It would make for entertaining fodder to think about while he was trying to fall asleep that night.
When he could speak without possibly setting something on fire, he shook his head. "No, I need access to the wound." He let some of his empathy for Alastor's dislike for touch seep into his voice as he said, honestly, "Sorry. I'll try to make it quick."
Alastor paused, a quick flash of trepidation appearing across his face and then disappearing just as quickly. His smile took on more of a mask like quality, as he reached up and began to undo his tie. He set it down beside himself, the protection gem Lucifer had gifted him resting up against his thigh.
His fingers didn't shake, didn't tremble in the slightest as he unclasped his coat and unbuttoned his shirt, but his discomfort was visible in every line of his body.
Button by button, he revealed first his neck and then his chest. A thin layer of - soft, Lucifer' treacherous mind reminded him - brown fur lined his shoulders, disappearing under his shirt. A lighter, fluffier bout of fur ran down his chest, fluffing up as it was freed from the restraint of Alastor's shirt. A nasty, ragged scar peaked out the bottom of the poof of fur, running along his side. Partially hidden, the scar appeared to run from Alastor's left collar bone to the last of his right set of ribs.
How he was still alive continued to baffle Lucifer, no matter how thankful he was. He held up his hands. "Can I approach you?"
Alastor gave him the stink eye, ear twitching. He almost looked insulted. "By all means, sire. Be my guest." His fingers gripped the sides of his shirt just a little too tightly, belying his words with his true feelings. When he released the fabric, it was almost like he was prying his own hands free. He settled his hands in his lap, back ramrod straight.
Lucifer moved carefully, but not too slowly. He knew Alastor wouldn't spook. He wasn't actually a wild animal. It was still polite to approach with caution, in case he needed to stop at the drop of the hat. The redhead watched him approach like a hawk, ear twitching with every noise Lucifer made.
Lucifer came to stand in front of him, close, but not quite allowing their knees to touch. He reached out, finger ghosting over what he could see of the scar. It must have been painful. The skin over the collar bone alone was thin. The length of the gouge threatened quite a few ribs. He couldn't tell how deep it had gone, but it had not healed prettily.
He pressed the tips of his fingers to the skin near the base of Alastor's ribs, the fur just as soft as it had been on his arms. Lucifer forced himself to focus, to ignore this tidbit of information and store it in the same box he kept all the other things he was slowly learning about the redhead's body, but wasn't allowed to think about. He closed his eyes, reaching out his senses.
Alastor felt human, his sins dripping like fresh blood from his soul. Lucifer could feel the way the power of his soul mingled with the darkness of his abilities. The wound itself had indeed completely healed, although traces of its damage ran deep. Several bones had been cleaved straight through, the organs beneath clipped. Alastor had only survived as long as he had because of his particular brand of magic being uniquely adept at keeping things sewed into place and Niffty was apparently very good with a needle. Without both, he would have bleed to death for sure.
Most importantly, though, to his vast relief, Lucifer could find no trace of Adam's grace anywhere within the sinner's body. Despite the obvious damage it had made, somehow, nothing lingered behind.
Alastor caught his wrist, his grip tight enough it might have bruised another sinner. Lucifer's eyes snapped open. He allowed Alastor to pull his hand away. He didn't try to free himself when the redhead didn't immediately let him go.
"Well, sire?" Alastor looked up, his sitting down giving Lucifer the height on him for a change. "Am I going to live?" This part was said with a degree of teasing, as if to say, see, I told you so.
The fallen angel reminded himself, not for the first time, that, no, he did not, in fact, want to strangle this guy. He smirked down his nose at the redhead, enjoying the fact that he could do so for a change. "Unfortunately." He ignored the way Alastor smiled at him, as if he knew how much he was enjoying being taller for a change. "You're either secretly an angel or just one lucky asshole. No grace leftover whatsoever."
Alastor threw back his head and laughed. "As you can see, your Majesty," he said with no small amount of mirth, "I am certainly no angel."
Lucifer snorted. The Radio Demon was a sinner, through and through, and quite happy with that fact. Some humans never got over their lot in the afterlife, but Alastor had embraced it with eyes wide open.
He watched the redhead loosen his grip on his wrist, his brain promptly short circuiting as Alastor twisted their hands around until he could intertwine their fingers. "Um."
"Since his Majesty has taken such good care of me..." Alastor reached out with his free hand, snaking it up and around Lucifer's waist. The blonde might have squeaked when he was pulled forward, legs automatically parting to stand on either side of the redhead's. He only stopped when his knees hit the side of the mattress. It also brought their faces within inches of each other. Alastor's voice was noticeably deeper as he offered, "I think this deserves it's own reward."
Eloquently, Lucifer managed, "Um?"
"Your reward is: I'll let you in on a little secret." Amused with his response, Alastor stared up at him, eyes half-lidded as he stated, "I also seem to care about you, Lucifer Morningstar."
Lucifer froze, too stunned to speak. He felt like he had utterly and completely lost the script and had no idea where this was going. With anyone else, he might have been able to take that statement at face value, but Alastor had long since taught him that no weakness was too small for the redhead to exploit. Sputtering, he asked, "What?"
"Ah-ah, I know you heard me." Alastor's thumb rubbed along the edge of the top of Lucifer's pants, a simple back and forth motion the blonde was suddenly all too hyper aware of. Goosebumps broke out along the alabaster skin under the fabric. "No need for repeats just yet."
Lucifer wanted to pull away so he could clear his mind and think.
He wanted to lean in and soak up every bit of attention Alastor was willing to give him.
He swallowed. "But... but you don't even like me?" He meant it to be a statement, but it came out too much of a question. He knew he hadn't read the sinner wrong, and yet, here they were, very much off script for their usual back and forth. To say he was confused would be an understatement.
"Come now, your Majesty." Alastor narrowed his eyes, giving the blonde a gentle shake. "I think I know my own heart."
Lucifer didn't dare to breathe. "And what does your heart say?"
"That I can't think of anyone who suits me better than you do." Alastor leaned ever so slightly closer, their noses brushing as he brought their faces as close as they had been just before Mimsy had interrupted them. As close as they had been during their dance during Octavia's coming of age ceremony. "What does his Majesty's heart say?"
"Are you asking if we can get together?" Lucifer was getting too many mixed signals. He had to know what Alastor really wanted. "Romantically?"
"And if I am? Would you 'get together with me', sire?" Alastor's expression was surprisingly patient, as if he had all the time in the world to devote to sorting this out. "Romantically?"
Lucifer thought about all the times Alastor had tried to usurp his place at his own daughter's side. Thought about all the terrible, hurtful things he had said before and after Lucifer moved in. Thought of all the ways they fought and clashed with each other.
He also thought about how Alastor had helped him down from his panic attack. How it had felt to have someone come to his defense, even if he hadn't needed it. How it felt when they danced, both in private and in public. How the weight of his body had felt laying on top of his own.
He would be completely crazy to agree to this, but there was only one answer he could give.
"Yes."
Alastor's smile turned triumphant, but not mocking. "Fabulous!" He stood abruptly, knocking Lucifer off balance. The only thing that kept the little king from falling over backwards was the redhead's arm coming up around his shoulders. Lucifer's face briefly brushed a chest full of downy fur as he was spun around. The back of his knees barely had time to brush the mattress as Alastor deposited him down onto the side of the bed where he had been sitting second beforehand.
Lucifer stared blankly ahead of himself, not certain what had just happened. Not certain what was happening.
Alastor released him, stepping back and letting go of him completely. Lucifer's heart dropped down to his feet, for a split second thinking that he had gotten this wrong. That he had misread the situation. That this was just another game--
A hand pressed against his cheek, snapping him out of his spiral. When Lucifer looked up at him, he noted that the redhead had merely been buttoning up his shirt.
Alastor ran a thumb over his cheekbone, and then gave him a pat. "Now, I believe there's at least one person downstairs who would like to hear I've received a clear bill of health. Shall we go reassure her?" That patient expression was still firmly in place, his gift for reading people allowing him to pick up nearly immediately that Lucifer's mind set had begun to go downhill.
Lucifer still wasn't sure he understood what had just transpired between them. He needed Alastor to just be clear with him. "Wait, what about--?"
Alastor was already spinning around on his heel, slipping his arms into his coat and heading for the door. Over his shoulder, he called, "Come along, sire." He paused near the door, turning just enough to look back at Lucifer, who was still rooted to the spot on his bed. The sinner held out a hand, palm up in invitation. "I did say us, did I not? I believe we might have an announcement to make, do we not?"
A wave of relief washed over Lucifer. "You..." He jumped up from his seat, not quite running, but certainly not simply walking across the room to take hold of the offered hand before the offer was retracted. The leather of the glove was smooth and cold to the touch as he wrapped his hand around it. Lucifer stared down at their joined hands, marveling at the fact that he was being allowed to do so. He looked up at Alastor. "You want to go public? Just like that?"
He somehow would have thought Alastor would have just let people come to their own conclusions. He seemed the type to enjoy the attention of everyone's speculations.
Alastor pressed his free hand to his chest. "Sire!" His tone was scandalized, although his eyes were squinted with mirth. "Did you intend for me to be your dirty little secret?"
"No!" Lucifer flushed, trying to pull his hand back, only to be denied. He admittedly wasn't trying to free himself very hard. "I just..." He frowned, genuinely concerned. "It's so early and... new." He stared down at their hands, squeezing lightly. "Literally just now, new."
Alastor fell silent. He didn't appear to be offended by the protest. "Very well, your Majesty," he conceded. He released Lucifer's hand, bemused by his king's look of mourning at the loss of contact. "We will keep this between ourselves, although I doubt anyone is going to be fooled."
Lucifer decided if they were really going to start dating or whatever they were doing, they were going to nip that in the bud. Hands on his hips, he pointed out, "Well, they certainly might if you keep calling me that."
Alastor's eyes narrowed. "I beg your pardon?"
"You know... 'your majesty' and 'sire.'" Lucifer waved a hand in the space between them. "You can call me by my name. I know you know it." He smirked up at the sinner, regaining some of his confidence now that he was back on firmer ground and understood the situation better. "You said it not even ten minutes ago."
"Hm, Lu-ci-fer," Alastor said, drawing out the word as if he were tasting it. Trying out how he liked it. He pulled face. "I'll think about it."
"Ugh, why do you have to be so difficult?" Lucifer grumbled, half heartedly. He reminded himself that he had more or less done this to himself. He had accepted this idiot into his life with each inch of allowance he'd given and had now agreed to become romantically entangled with him on top of everything else.
"Ha!" Alastor opened his door. He held out his cane in front of him, indicating that Lucifer should go first. "We both know if I were agreeable all the time I would be boring." When the blonde cleared the door way, the redhead joined him in the hallway and shut the door behind himself. "And then where would we be?"
Boring was the last thing that came to mind if Lucifer were to describe Alastor. Alastor and boring were so utterly and completely not on speaking terms, they weren't even speaking the same language. He let the sinner set an easy pace as they made their way down the hallway to the main staircase. "Maybe." He was tempted to elbow the sinner, but just because he had been allowed some liberties, he wasn't certain how much (if anything) had changed on account of the change in their relationship status. He put it on a to-do list of things to discuss the next time they were alone. "But it would be nice if you were at least agreeable sometimes."
He wasn't actually expecting any sort of agreement on that part.
Sure enough. "It's too early in our relationship for me to start agreeing with everything you say, darling," Alastor snarked back without missing a beat. The ends of his lips quirked into something closer to a smirk.
Lucifer felt a shiver run up his spine at the pet name. No one had called him that in... well, he didn't even remember the last time Lilith had called him that. Called him anything other than his name, really. He had forgotten how nice something as simple as an endearment was.
Alastor's smile edged a little closer to a smirk until it was almost more smirk than smile at his reaction. Lucifer had the sudden foreboding feeling that the redhead was going to milk that new discovery for all it was worth.
He wasn't terribly worried about it.
As they made their way down the staircase, walking side by side, not touching, but standing a little closer to each other than, Lucifer felt like things might actually be turning around for the better. He was getting to repair his relationship with his daughter. He had a brand new romantic relationship to explore, something he hadn't had the chance to do in some ten thousand years. He was still having depression spells and there might be some backlash from Alastor's and Vox's ongoing sniping at each other, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle.
He stared at Alastor out of the corner of his eye, an almost giddy feeling taking root in his heart as it started to really sink in that someone actually wanted him. Wanted to be with him.
He didn't have a clue what the sinner was thinking, nor was he absolutely convinced of Alastor's motives. He still had whatever his second favor was. However, mysterious motives and taciturn attitude aside, Alastor wasn't half bad as a catch, if he did say so himself. If Alastor was being honest about this, he thought they maybe actually had a shot at this.
Yes, Lucifer thought to himself, a slight skip in his step. Yes, he quite thought things were indeed looking up.
For a brief moment, he forgot that the universe hated him, always on the look out for when his life might be headed in a happier direction. That the universe had it out for him.
And it was more than happy to remind him of this fact.

acgas season 5 rant
well I must say it’s been some time since I wrote a tumblr essay but I think this one has been building all season. in fact, it will likely be part one of (?) because there are many feelings that need to screamed into the void. let me preface by saying that I am not a “hater” by any means, because I absolutely and unabashedly love this show and it pains me so much to criticise it, instead of celebrate on cloud nine like I usually would be after the finale. I ranked it higher than downton abbey the early seasons, which is a massive compliment for anyone that knows me. and I repeatedly told others not to worry bc it’s the show that keeps on giving and that I trusted these writers implicitly with our beloved characters.
so yes, it royally sucks that I have to eat my words, and that acgas season 5 did not bring what it should have brought. and it also sucks that this is only part one of my rant (for you and me both). if you loved s5, then I am really happy you did, and please don’t read on bc I don’t want to taint your experience. if you hated it but don’t know why, or bc misery loves company, pls read on. spoilers ahead, obv.

yes so — structure wise, it was a hot mess. I can definitely see what they were going for, in that they gave the limelight to a pair of characters every episode, and thought it would be fine like modern family style episodes. except, another spoiler alert: it was not fine at all, unless your faves are the featured couple for said episode. I would do an episode by episode breakdown but @owlsiehoot already did that. suffice to say, it is not the kind of show where you can enjoy 40 odd minutes when it’s not “your” characters’ turn to shine. they have nearly an ensemble cast, but chose not to treat it like an ensemble show. and while I can see what they were trying to avoid, the chosen execution method was far far worse imo. (we may never know the real reason for this change, but I hate whoever greenlit this decision).
even if they wanted to keep the longer scene structure, fine, maybe it could have worked. but if I could have recommended one change in the writing room, it would have been to split the main cast into threes every episode, instead of pairs. that would resemble the formula a bit more like the prev seasons, and would’ve given much more interesting and diverse back and forths to play off of and keep more general balance. some ways the dynamics could have been done:
Tris & Carmody were fine in ep 4, but keep it in skeldale more and add Mrs Hall into the mix to mother them, even better. (reminding the audience she has a biological son too, and not just these surrogate dumbasses whom she loves would have been a bonus.)
Helen & James are always lovely together, but add Tris in there for some mischief or more Jenny and Heston Grange for some sisterly bonding.
Tris & Siegfried were cute too, but again they were away from the house, and usually Audrey was right in there with them and added something to all their interactions.
Alternatively, give the ladies something to do and put Audrey, Helen and Mrs Pumphrey together again. (I will say though, at least Mrs P had more to do this season).
Where the show suffered most was giving Carmody two stand-out episodes tbh, when in reality, they only had time for one.
2. tone
not only did the previous seasons have an amazing balance of all characters, they also managed to balance the darker story threads with lighthearted humour in an inimitable way. usually three concurrent storylines, two being more serious, and one more lighthearted to break it up. some episodes of course, were more lighthearted than others. but season 5 seems to have turned that on its head because almost all storylines were quite silly?? I respect there has always been a certain amount of physical humour, but it seems now that the gags have now replaced actual plots and meaningful character development. this is not a sitcom after all, unless they’re trying to change genre at the nth hour. notable exceptions include Bingo’s storyline ofc, and Candy & Joan (both which were early in the season btw) and James’ war and brucellosis experience right at the end. the middle was mostly twaddle if you ask me.
which reminds me: overall, the animal storylines seem to have become something of a joke too. the animals used to mean a lot more to their clients before, and the vets used to show them a great deal more love and respect. contrast to this season, many vetting scenes feel almost cavalier. the poor dog with the phantom pregnancy was played for laughs, which I don’t think it would have been in prev seasons. the horse that fell down after the injection, had no greater mystery to solve. Siegfried and Tristan barely seemed to care, and chalked it up to shock. it is quite unforgivable to me, as their great reverence for the animals was one of the things I love(d) about this show.
imo a few subtle changes could have elevated many of the stories to their usual form. I gave an example on discord, but I’ll repeat it here. it’s episode 5, and picture Bosworth coming into Skeldale the same was as he did in canon, asking Audrey to come out to investigate a potential bomb. everything could have remained the same except that Audrey could have told the others where she was off to, and Siegfried or Tristan maybe asked her not to go. the whole family would have gathered together for a moment, expressed their fear for her and she would have said it’s her duty to go and check anyway. in this version, we would have felt the tension and the stakes, and it would be a looming threat of the war finally touching Darrowby. the end would also be the same, a false alarm and nothing more but the emotional impact of the episode would have increased tenfold.
and to me, the worst part of it all is that the season actually started off so promising. the first two/ three episodes, combined with the interviews by the cast, it honestly felt like they were exploring some very interesting things. but they dangled the carrot, only not to deliver imho.
it seemed that Tristan was hiding something painful under his playful exterior, eventually to be teased out, but apparently he really came back from war completely trauma-free.
I was under the impression that Siegfried was supposed to have an identity crisis, where he was feeling left behind, but it didn’t seem to pan out properly either.
Audrey was supposed to be overworked, right? but we didn’t see her actually buckle under the strain of her many, many duties because she’s basically superwoman I guess?
James had this beautiful connection with Banerjee, only for him to be alive but never show up again I guess? really thought James would bring him to Mrs P’s convalescent home but guess not.
3. characters
and here is the crux of it, the beating heart of the show which is now bleeding out. because a truly good show is character-driven, and unfortunately I cannot say that was true for season 5. a glaring deus ex machina comes to mind, when the doorknob fell off in episode 4, trapping Tris and Carmody in a room. never thought the show would stoop to these cliched tropes tbh and it truly disappointed me.
not only did the episode structures do the characters a great disservice, but it seems to have foiled the overall season story arc too for each character throughline. to me, it looked as if the only two people with clear defined story arcs were James with his war trauma, and Carmody (my beloved). was it Sam West who said the characters seemed “busy” this season? bc yes, it’s accurate. but not in a good way. mostly they all had only things to do on the surface, but there was very little going on underneath. which is a crying shame because basically, characters have to suffer a little to grow and be interesting. they need to face challenges and grow and change. let’s do some compare & contrast:
Tristan changed and grew in every season, from 1 to 3 and faced many internal (and external) obstacles to becoming his best self, whether it was by being more studious or responsible and mature in his work and personal life. Now he’s back and we’re supposed to think… what? That he’s already his best self, I suppose.
season 4 Siegfried was holding his found family together, trying to cope with the workload and missing Tristan, worrying about James, terrified that Audrey was going to leave. contrast to s5, and Siegfried is… being adorable with baby Jimmy, and attracted to a goat heiress? if there was something deeper here, please let me know bc I must have missed it.
while last season, Helen was looking forward to starting a family, and then working on keeping her baby healthy and her family (James) intact despite the war. s5 Helen started off strong, struggling with balancing being a mother and big sister to Jenny, but now… she’s what? planting too many strawberries in the victory garden? being a supportive wife to James is important, but it cannot be her only feature.
and last but definitely not least, Audrey in s4 was learning what a life outside her marriage to Robert could truly mean for her, and figuring out for herself where she belongs. conversely, s5has her making jam, and finding non-explosive tinned potatoes. yes she’s a warden, but what is she feeling on the inside?
4. conclusion — an empty vessel
to summarise this not-epic epic is that my true grouse with this season is its utter emptiness. it is truly a season where nothing happened and nobody really changed. okay, some things were different — e.g. Siegfried being better with handling his “boys”, and being more open and less grumbly in general. or Tristan being more responsible with his work, and standing his ground more firmly. but imo those were the results of previous season’s changes. within the course of s5, they did not do much growing or changing.
Tristan’s homecoming episode comes to mind the most. so many missed opportunities for deeper to surface — James being torn between treating a patient and possibly missing his son’s christening would have added some true to character dissonance. Helen leaning on Audrey for support when she had issues with her mother-in-law, could have worked beautifully and explored the character foils in an interesting way. James and Helen asking Siegfried and Audrey to be Jimmy’s godparents would have been truly touching and a testament to how deep their familial bonds are.
anyway, TL;DR I guess? maybe it’s because they’re saving most of the juicy stuff for season 6, but it mostly felt like a filler season, and if you looked forward to it all year just to get that then it’s truly anti-climactic. with all that said now, onwards and outwards. we shall see was the CS brings.

Okay! So! I'm breaking out the correct capitalization because this news is so insane! The Japanese website for Endless Ocean Luminous received a major update last night, and I want to walk through the biggest new info from it with you! This is gonna be really long, so please bare with me, there's just so much to cover...
Here's the link for people who want to check this themselves: https://www.nintendo.com/jp/switch/a7lka/index.html
The Veiled Sea is random, but not in the way you think
It has been officially confirmed that the Veiled Sea's terrain and creatures will change with each dive, and creatures will likely spawn in accordance to the nearby terrain. But don't panic!
Tumblr media
After filling in 80% of an area's map, you will be given a map ID, which you can use to access that exact same map, either by yourself or with friend, whenever you like! Think of them like Minecraft world seeds. An example ID (which can likely be used upon release) is given in the photo above, accompanied by what looks like a photo of the one and only...! Maybe you can reliably encounter her on that map ID?
2. Salvages are back, baybee!!
Tumblr media
In what looks to be a system similar to EO1 and the Everblue games, salvages of all sorts can be found under small glints on the ocean floor! The P earned from salvages immediately goes into your current amount once you've picked it up. According to the photo above, salvaging is "essential to unravelling the ocean's mysteries", and another photo states that you may even find traces of "ancient civilizations"...
3. A diving rank system has been revealed, along with fishy friends
Tumblr media
As you discover new creatures and treasures, you will unlock all sorts of things, and your dive rank will increase! Higher dive ranks have access to more suit colors (which side note omg i'm loving the options), as well as larger creatures following you, and more creatures following at the same time! What does that mean? Well... you know EO1's friendship system, where if you're friendly enough to a fish, it'll follow you around? This seems to be returning, but reworked! The creatures that follow you depends on your dive rank: at a low rank, only small fish will follow you, but as your rank increases, you can have dolphins and even huge whales tag along with you!
4. Behold a whole new range of underwater environments
I already showed pictures of them in my previous post, so I won't here to save photo space, but to list a few, underwater magma flows, shipwrecks in the abyss, polar areas, freshwater caves, and active hydrothermal vent fields have all been shown off here!
5. Different missions will be available each dive
Tumblr media
Not much elaboration is needed here, but each dive, you will be given special missions (such as seeking out a location or creature). We don't yet know what reward these will give us, but it's gotta be good, right?
6. A new method of identifying creatures
Tumblr media
Creatures you have yet to identify will glow, and pressing the L button while near these creatures will unlock their information. Multiple creatures' info can be acquired this way at the same time, making for easy scanning of big groups! This info will then be available in the marine encyclopedia, which can be accessed at any time.
Tumblr media
The encyclopedia will also record the creature's behavior, habits, and the largest/smallest sizes of it you have found.
7. Creature variants have been introduced
Though the site did not elaborate on this, it did showcase a picture of a creature labelled "variant".
Tumblr media
This one is especially interesting, because though the scientific name here is accurate, the Japanese text below it reads... "Coco Maharaja", which is this EO2 legendary's Japanese name! Will we be able to encounter the exact legendary specimens from EO2 again in the Veiled Sea, or are these simply colored variants named after them? Either way, the creature variant system is going to be awesome, I can tell!
8. Photography is back, and better than ever!
Tumblr media
Photos will be sent to the Nintendo Switch's album when taken. What purpose they will serve in the greater game has yet to be seen, but you can take photos with yourself in them!
9. Multiplayer and singleplayer options
Tumblr media
I know some people were worried about multiplayer being the only mode, but this is not the case! Players can dive either solo, or with a group over the internet with the "Dive Together" option. When diving together, up to 10 random players can play... or, when diving with friends, up to 30 people can!
Additional multiplayer reveals include the ability to use tons of emotes to communicate, adding emojis to creatures or treasures you find which can be seen on the map for others to check out (the Cacao Maharaja photo showcases a bunch of these emojis), being able to teleport to any player in your current dive, and more!
10. A new mythical creature...?
The array of photos shown of new creature models is absolutely astounding... but one in particular that caught my eye is the set of new prehistoric creatures!
Tumblr media
One of these things is not like the others though... what could "Raja Emas" be...? Can prehistoric creatures be mythical too?
This update has made me more hyped than ever for this game! I'd be curious to hear your thoughts too~ :>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a building that the team would be using, it was a large almost abandoned place, perfect to torture the man, discuss plans, and where the medic was stationed. Ghost immediately dropped you off there, the doctor inspecting your wound with Ghost looming nearby. The doctor had a personal tent with tons of equipment and lighting to handle anything. The doctor named Dr. Windsor, you knew him well from past experiences, he began with removing the wrap Ghost had done inspecting the wound but smiling gently reassuringly. "Didn't cut you deep luckily, I don't see any puncture. You'll be alright, definitely need stitches though." He started grabbing his string and needle to prepare as he started making you stand still with your head straight. You were looking at Ghost and he was back at you. The whole process was slightly painful, but you bit your tongue through it.
When the doctor finally finished he put a large bandage on it. "You're all done. Now give it about a week and it'll be gone, but-" this made Ghost say in a dark voice "But what ?" The doctor spun in his chair almost seeming to forget Ghost was standing there the whole time. "God damn, Lieutenant, about gave me cardiac arrest" he sighs out, earning a painful giggle as you went to reach for where it hurt at your neck. "As I was going to say, y/n, because of how deep that cut was, it will leave a mark-" you studied Dr.Windsor for a moment nodding your head slowly as he continued "However, I do have ointment that can make it go away-" you responded so fast you didn't realize how abrupt you were "No" Dr. Windsor simply looked at you as you covered your abruptness "No, thank you, it's fine. Thanks again Doc, I owe you that drink one day" You get off the table you were sitting on walking by Ghost as he watched you do so. The doctor than spoke to him.
Ghost looked at the doctor as he spoke "You know, I'm not a specialist when it comes to emotional feelings, but I can see how you look at her." Ghost eyes stared at the man as he continued "She is brave and beautiful, known her personally in the past." He glances in the Lieutenant's direction "She's already been through enough, don't hurt her more if you're not going to commit to those feelings." He frowned a bit at this statement wondering what he could mean by them, What exactly have you been through ? Ghost silently went out of the tent. You were making your way to the humvee they came from, he almost forgot you were wearing revealing clothes. He couldn't help but blush, it seemed so natural for you to wear something like this and not care who would see. You opened the backseat door then glance back at him "Will the team be coming back soon ?" He grunts avoiding making eye contact with you, opening the driver's door "Yeah, I'll take you back to the hotel if you want so you can rest." Tilting your head as you grab your coat putting it on before peeping around the door to look up at him "Lieutenant, won't you be needed to interrogate?" Ghost simply looks down at you, was the first time you used his rank to address him in such a different tone.
He considered his words "You're more important. I don't need you seeing this shit." You close the door of your backseat door leaning against the vehicle "Don't think I can stomach it ?" He looks away from your gaze, it was hard to say these words "I don't want you to see the other part of me." You raise a brow confused by this, he almost sounded as if he was two different people. You stayed silent for a moment. Then spoke softly "When your done, will you come back to the room ?" His eyes move back to you, you were grabbing your arm and squeezing it tightly, obviously from tonight you were scared. "Yeah, I'll come back Aphrodite" This nickname made you smile as you laugh softly, you were blushing as you pushed your wig hair back, the blood stained it still "I'll hold you to that Ghost" going around to the passenger side.
You allowed him to take you back to the hotel, escorting you briskly through the lobby, his large arms around you. Still playing the part as husband and wife. Getting into the elevator, he insisted still to take you personally to the door so he knew you were safe. The ride up was quiet until the dinging of the elevator door open. Stepping down the hallway making to your door, unlocking it and opening it to the bedroom that you were both staying in. Ghost was standing behind you as you walked in, then turned around to look at him, he was looking back down at you.
Ghost doesn't know how long the two of you were standing looking at each other but the next thing he knew he was embracing you tightly, your head burying into his chest. His arms easily wrapped around your whole body frame, you were delicate in his arms. Eventually you slightly pulled away, looking at where his lips were almost tempted to lift his mask, he took the hint. He lifted the mask up enough over the bridge of his nose revealing his thin pink lips, they had a cut on one side, and scars adorning his cheeks, jaw and neck. You got on your toes leaning up to meet his lips as he held you close kissing you back deeply.
His kiss was everything you imagined, it was addictive, slightly rough, needing, and passionate. The sensation of his touch and the way his lips encouraged yours to move was tasteful bliss. The kiss lasted for a long time, but eventually when you both pulled away you were left panting. Your eyes were hazy from the passion, he lowered himself enough tilting your head up slightly, holding the back of your neck gently, where he planted a gentle kiss over your bandage. This made you shiver. How can a man his size, be murderous, rough, intimidating, yet be so gentle to the touch. However, like everything, it had to come to an end. He looked down at you pressing his head on yours "I'll be back Lil Goddess" you laugh softly still panting, the nickname made you feel warm inside especially when it came from him. "I'll be waiting Lieutenant" Ghost furrowed his brows looking at your face pressed close to his, that's when he said it "Simon"
Taken back, you look up at him eyes wide processing what he said "W-What ?" You blinked your eyes at him for a moment as he chuckles from your surprised look "You can call me Simon when we are alone" His name...his real name. When Johnny and you talked he had told you that only Price knew what he looked like and he had suspicions Laswell did too. But he only ever showed to people he truly trusted and even THAT was hard to earn. Smiling at the thought made you feel special. "Simon..." You say his name almost testing it on your tongue, which he smiles at, his smile, you've never seen something so beautiful. One last kiss he eventually pulled away so he could get back to the team. He lowers his mask, nodding his head at you, as you closed the door in front of him slowly.
Once the door was closed and he heard the locks click, he started making his way down the stairs of the hotel. Already making his way back to the vehicle, getting in, his mind was thinking about kissing you. How he wished he could have stayed longer with you and held you. The sensation of your lips were lingering on his mind "Fuck..." he grumbled, now he was starting to catch feelings. This was what he was trying to avoid. He knew his line of work would interfere with his judgement let alone his ability to focus. The fact you got hurt under his watch was a reminder how much he should never have gotten closer to you. He didn't even realize he had arrived at the building the team was, he subconsciously drove himself here. Ghost was really on edge now, giving this man a good beating and torture was what he needed to let off steam. Everyone was gathered around the man Gusev who was bound to the chair only having a few bruises, nothing even comparable what Ghost was going to make him feel. Gusev seemed to haved noticed Ghost's arrival as Ghost made his way over, his teams eyes also looking at him. Soap spoke first "How's the little goddess doing ? " he asks in his Scottish accent Ghost seems to be eyeing the man bound to the chair as he answered "She's fine. Back at the hotel." Soap stepped to the side as Ghost approached the man who was laughing "Ah, come to torture me more ? You'll never get anything out of me. Hear that little whore got a lovely cut, too bad I wasn't able to make a clean cut of that pretty head-" before he could even taunt more, Ghost had been walking around the man until grabbing his hand and breaking it, the man screamed in agony, luckily they were in a locked room, it wouldn't be heard. Most of the team took their leave, even Price, when they all had left, it was just the man and Ghost. Ghost was circling him like a shark as he spoke "I'm not like them..." The man looked at him with wide eyes as Ghost began removing his gear. Ghost now was only his jacket, jeans and boots. He was removing his jacket though showing himself in just his shirt top, scars across his arms. The man seemed to be more shaken up, "The fuck do you want ?" he was getting scared Ghost concluded Haven't even fuckin started and already he gonna piss himself. Ghost removed his gloves exposing his bare hands, veins showing and cuts on them as well "You're going to tell me everything you know" His eyes glanced up at the bounded man cocking his head "Should any of your words sound so much as a lie, I'm going to break a piece of you, but you won't die..." he chuckles lowly using his deep voice "Nah, you see, you're gonna fucking suffer until I get everything you fuckin know, don't give a fuck whether its private or your dirty secrets." Ghost grabbed the man at the shirt "And I'm going to break you every fuckin way immaginable. No fuckin doctor going to be able to identify your shitty body." this obviously made the man pale, but it made him talking. An hour. Ghost brutally beat the man, even when he spouted every kind of information, he was using the man like a punching bag. Angered simply for everything that happened. Once he let out all his anger on the man, he was close to dead already. Ghost stopped his brutal pursuit walking out of the room with blood splattered over his arms, hands, shirt, mask, pants, and shoes. Everyone grimaced at the sight, even Price couldn't look at the brutally beaten man but he spoke up "Get anything out of him" Ghost simply walked over to the pipe line turning on the water rinsing off the blood from his hands and arms. He spoke "Yeah, he told me everything, we need to get a hold of Laswell." his tone was enough to make Price tell it was something serious so he began getting a hold of her while Ghost cleaned himself off not caring about the blood staining his clothes. No matter how much he scrubbed though under the water, he still couldn't get the words out of the man's last words before he beated him to a pulp...."We got a list....and that little Goddess on the top"
Thanks for Reading!
This one is much shorter...but I have so much planned for the next chapter. Stay tuned !
Day 12
Favorite scene/line
That’s a hard question since they are so many great and enjoyable scenes. I admit that I am very biased towards any scene featuring Hagen.
In enjoy the council scenes, in which king Gunther hears the council of his men to decide the next course of action: about Siegfried’s death (865–876), about Etzel’s courtship of Kriemhild (1202–1214) and about Kriemhild’s invitation (1457–1473). I enjoy the back and forth of arguments and how we get a little glimpse into everybody’s mindset. Aventiure 25 and its Hagen solo adventure is also great entertainment. And the whole drama unfolding at Etzel’s court is just peak literature.
Some of my top tier favourite scenes are definitely the dialogue scenes between Hagen and Kriemhild in aventiure 28 and 29 and their final scene in aventiure 39. Those scenes feel like rhetorical chess games – Hagen and Kriemhild using and abusing symbols and the conventions of courtly etiquette in order to provoke the other as well as Hagen twisting Kriemhild’s words to counter her provocations and to humiliate her. It’s amazing what of a silver tongue he has, and I absolutely love the defiance he demonstrates in these scenes. Finally, their last scene together in aventiure 39 is an amazing climax for this tragic and dark story with very strong imagery.
I analyzed Hagen and Kriemhild’s dialogue scenes in aventiure 28 and 29 for a term paper some years ago. That’s probably also a big reason why I’ve come to like them so much.
For anybody who might be interested, I included an English translation of my analyses under the cut (very long text post incoming):
At the court of the Huns, Hagen and Kriemhild openly demonstrate their enmity towards each other. They provoke each other, break courtly conventions and both pursue the goal to trigger an irreversible conflict between the Burgundians and the Huns (Weydt 1980, p. 100).
Arrival of the Burgundians at the court of the Huns – 1st dialogue between Hagen and Kriemhild (1737–1749)
When the Burgundians arrive at the court of the Huns, Kriemhild already provokes them by her greeting: by kissing only Giselher (1737,1–3), she distinguishes between friend and foe among the Burgundians and turns the otherwise peacemaking effect of the greeting into one of aggression (Müller 1998, p. 377).
Hagen responds by tying his helmet tightly (1737,4) – a gesture, that shows Kriemhild, that he sees through her hostile intentions, and which demonstrates to her and the Burgundians his willingness to fight (Heinzle 2021, pp. 1393–1394; Botschan 2009, p. 67). By publicly criticizing Kriemhild's greeting (1738), he once again verbally draws the Burgundians' attention to the threat posed by Kriemhild (Weydt 1980, p. 103).
Kriemhild again provokes Hagen – now directly – when she explicitly excludes him from her welcome greeting and her friendship (1739,1–2) and by her implicit question (1739,3–4) she publicly addresses the yet unpunished robbery of the Nibelung hoard by Hagen (Weydt 1980, p. 103).
Hagen in turn exposes Kriemhild with his ironic reply (1740), by twisting Kriemhild's words and playing the ignorant: he deliberately understands Kriemhild's question literally and pretends that she is dependent on gifts from her guests and, as queen, wants to receive gifts from someone of a lower rank which would be a special honour for him. On the surface Hagen remains on the level of courtly convention, but at the same time subverts it by using non-actual speech to hurtfully offend and provoke his dialogue partner (Müller 1998, p. 416; Botschan 2009, p. 67).
By feigning ignorance, he forces Kriemhild to ask directly about the hoard (1741,2) (Müller 1998, p. 416). She thus publicly confronts Hagen with his guilt: the theft of the Nibelung hoard.
After the explicit demand for the hoard, Hagen also leaves the level of non-actual speech (1742). In his reply, he presents the sinking of the hoard as the will of his kings (1742,3) – he justifies the sinking of the hoard on the basis of his vassalage duties and distances himself from a sole apportionment of blame (Weydt 1980, p. 104; Botschan 2009, p. 67). Kriemhild then laments once again the injustice done to her and her resulting grief (1743,3–4) and emphasises Hagen's unwillingness to make amends (1743,1–2).
Hagen responds to Kriemhild's complaint with scorn and aggression, for he openly insults her: ‘Jâ bringe ich iu den tiuvel’ (1744,1). He again deliberately misunderstands Kriemhild's words and presents the return of the stolen hoard as a problem of transportation (Müller 1998, p. 417). Thus he leads into a list of the armour and weapons that he had to carry instead of the hoard (1744,2–4). The list of weapons is a renewed signal of his readiness to fight and his knowledge of an inevitable violent confrontation at the court of the Huns as well as a simultaneous threat (Armstrong 1979, p. 160; Botschan 2009, p. 68).
Kriemhild responds to Hagen's cue. She breaks off the argument with Hagen in order to demand that her guests surrender their weapons (1745,2–3). Hagen uses Kriemhild's demand for weapons to publicly express his mistrust once again (Weydt 1980, p. 105). With scorn and aggression, which he again disguises as politeness, he rejects Kriemhild's demand (1745,4–1746). Once again, he reduces Kriemhild's words to their literal meaning (1745,3: that one should give [ûf geben] her the weapons directly into her hands), whereby Kriemhild's proposed gesture is exaggerated in its politeness. Again, he reinterprets Kriemhild's words as a supposedly special honour for him (1746,1). As a supposedly well-mannered knight, he refuses to hand over his weapons, referring to the difference in rank between him and Queen Kriemhild (1746,3–4) (it would be too much of an honour for a knight like him, if a queen like Kriemhild carried his weapons away with her own hands) (Müller 1998, p. 417; Botschan 2009, p. 67).
Kriemhild interprets Hagen's words as a threat and complains that the Burgundians have been warned (1747). With her words, she turns away from Hagen as an interlocutor and ends the first dialogue between the two. When she leaves the scene of the conversation (1749) in shame after Dietrich's rebuke (1748), she walks away from the dialogue as the loser.
Confrontation in front of Kriemhild's hall – 2nd dialogue between Hagen and Kriemhild (1760–1799)
In Aventiure 29, Hagen and Kriemhild have the opportunity to settle their conflict freely in the absence of their respective personal organisations. After the first argument in Aventiure 28, the conflict between the two is intensified once again (Botschan 2009, p. 76).
The renewed conflict begins when Hagen, together with Volker, gets away from the rest of the Burgundians to sit provocatively on a bench opposite one of Kriemhild's halls (1760–1761). Hagen and Volker are referred to as ‘übermüeten helde’ (1762,2), by which is meant either their audacity as warriors or Hagen's presumptuous attitude (Botschan 2009, p. 73).
The sight of Hagen reminds Kriemhild of her suffering and makes her weep (1763,1). She responds to Hagen's provocation, mobilises her Hunnish retinue (1763–1765), openly calls for the murder of Hagen (1765,4) and goes to Hagen with the sign of her royal rule (= her crown) (1770,4). This makes Hagen's subsequent provocations towards Kriemhild even greater, since she appears before him as a representative of the Hunnish court (Heinzle 2021, p. 1399). She publicly wants to uncover Hagen's guilt for Siegfried's death and have his wrongdoing punished (1771) (Müller 1998, p. 291).
Hagen speaks ‘in zornes muote’ (1776,1) [= in anger] when Volker addresses him about the armed Huns (1773–1775) – probably a reaction to Kriemhild's murder plan and violation of rights or a heroic affect in view of an impending battle (Botschan 2009, p. 74; Müller 1998, p. 208).
When Kriemhild approaches the two men, Hagen rejects the courtly norm (1781–1782), which is represented in the scene by Volker (1780), by not standing up in front of the queen and thus not honouring her – a serious insult (Müller 1998, p. 420; Botschan 2009, p. 75). His refusal to honour her reflects Kriemhild's provocative greeting (1737) in their first conversation (Holzhauer 1997, p. 133) and continues the chain of provocations between the two. As already after Siegfried's death (1001,4), Hagen expresses his disdain for Kriemhild (1782,4). He does not honour her status with the reason that she is ‘gehaz’ (1782,2) towards him [= she hates him / sees him as her enemy], and he no longer sees her as part of his own personal association, but only as the wife of Etzel (1782,4) (Botschan 2009, p. 75).
Hagen adds another provocative gesture to his first when he demonstratively places the sword Balmung over his legs (1783,1–3) in order to hurt Kriemhild (1784,4). He is labelled with the attribute ‘übermüete’ (1783,1) while doing so. Übermüete here probably refers to Hagen's self-assured pride and his martial audacity, which forbid him to deny his deed – just as Kriemhild had predicted before the confrontation (1771,3: ‘ich weiz in sô übermüeten, daz er mir lougent niht’). Another appropriate translation would be to interpret übermüete in the sense of presumptuousness, arrogance in view of Hagen's serious provocation (Heinzle 2021, p. 1401). The showing of the sword anticipates Hagen's verbal confession of murder and is at the same time a gesture of threat.
Kriemhild begins the conversation with a vîentlîchen gruoz (1786,4) [= hostile greeting]. She challenges Hagen with her question (1787,1–3) and insultingly presents him as an uninvited guest (1787,1). Hagen initially does not respond to the provocation, instead he responds in the spirit of his role as a serving vassal and remains on the level of the seemingly polite (1788) (Armstrong 1979, p. 161; Weydt 1980, p. 108).
Kriemhild then confronts Hagen directly with the accusation of murder (1789,3). Hagen openly confesses to the murder of Siegfried (1790,2) and gives as his reason ‘daz diu schoene Kriemhilt die vroun Brünhilden schalt’ (1790,4) [= that the beautiful Kriemhild reviled lady Brunhild]. He thus presents Siegfried's murder as a consequence of Kriemhild's actions and Kriemhild as partly responsible for Siegfried's death (Weydt 1980, p. 108). His previously gestural confession of murder is now confirmed verbally. The directness of Hagen's confession of murder represents a break with courtly norms, a mockery of the courtly code (Müller 1998, p. 420), and once again explicitly demonstrates Hagen's lack of remorse for his offence.
Hagen continues to provoke. He presents himself as the sole culprit (1791,1–2) and thus plays into Kriemhild's view, who focusses her desire for revenge on Hagen as the main culprit. With his words ‘nû rech ez, swer der welle’ (1791,3), he challenges a conflict of arms. It is also an expression of his pride and audacity when he presents himself as a warrior who is not afraid of the consequences of his actions.
After Hagen's confession, Kriemhild again calls on her men to take revenge on him (1792,1–3). However, the Huns do not dare to attack the two Burgundians (1793–1799,1), so that Kriemhild and her men have to retreat unsuccessfully (1799,2–4). Once again, Kriemhild emerges as the loser from the dialogue.
what descendants 4 would have been if i was given free reign
okay so idek if there’s a descendants community on here but i just have to get my ideas out SOMEWHERE bc the wonderland stuff had so much potential but disney just went such a bizarre direction with d4. like what even was that time travel plot. this was partly inspired by dylanisintrouble’s incorrect assumption in his reaction vid that it would be abt a group of wonderland kids bc that’s exactly what should have happened!! let me elaborate
fun fact this was written while i was getting torn to shreds on tiktok for my descendants song rankings but ANYWAYS
i’m keeping it realistic to what disney could have done, as in no cameos of the og cast that isn’t already in the movie. ofc in a perfect world we’d get more with those characters, but after cameron’s passing i’m respecting their wishes to not be in more descendants movies without him.
things i’m keeping the same:
the cast is p much the same except characters i have to cut since i’m scrapping the time travel aspect. cinderella and charming were basically the best parts of that movie to me bc i love their original cinderella so yeah we are ABSOLUTELY keeping that. and the cast is v talented they just got an ass script not their fault
red & chloe are still two of the main characters but i’m adding a third too (we’ll get there) and they’re basically unchanged personality/backstory wise
the whole beginning up through red’s song is basically unchanged. uma’s still in charge and invites wonderland kids to auradon prep, except in this case it’s more than just the one
the queen of hearts/cinderella backstory is somewhat the same; they were friends in school and then there was a prank that caused the queen of hearts to become the tyrant we now know. we get this knowledge through further exposition in love ain’t it
okay and that’s literally it LMAOO let’s get into the characters now
the main three
so as i mentioned two of the main characters are still red and chloe basically unchanged from d4. so the third mc is, and i feel genius for this…. bridget!! but an oc version, not as the young queen of hearts. hear me out. pretty much everyone seems to agree young bridget was such a fun character and loves her, myself included, so i had to find a way to make her an mc. in my plot, she’s red’s sister! either twin sister or irish twins idrk either works, but i will be calling them the twins in this post. she’d realistically have a different name but in order to not cause confusion i’m going to keep calling her bridget in this post. she has the same personality and appearance as the movie, except she also has a bit of blind loyalty towards her mom, unlike red. she’s a sweetheart and hates the idea of hurting people, but she’ll do basically anything outside of that for her mother. she also has such an intense need to be liked that she’ll sometimes do things against her morals or ignore red flags — as seen with her mom. she and red do love each other but there’s still a lot of disconnect in their relationship because of their different dynamics with the queen of hearts and how different they are.
the other wonderland kids
so just like the og descendants movie, i would have it be four kids. obviously the two girls would be the twins, and then i would also add the mad hatter’s son and alice’s son. i would keep the mad hatter’s son kinda similar to the one we see in the movie, except he’s red’s age and more eccentric. i’m keeping his name maddox as well but we’d have to recast since the actor is a bit too old. he and red are still good friends and he tries to have her back and keep her out of danger like in the movie. unlike in the movie though maddox is a lot more fun and unique. he’s still more grounded than his father, but he was boring af in the movie for the mad hatter’s kid so he’d be more vibrant in my version. he’s the comic relief. i named alice’s son alex and he’s kind of what you’d expect — very curious and eccentric but still kind and smart. ppl get annoyed with him because he’s always asking loads of questions. he’s close with bridget.
the side characters
okay so admittedly this is probably where i put in the least thought lmao i don’t really have parentage/names for anyone here. but i want there to be a relevant vk kid who’s kind to the wonderland squad just to remind fans that the vks are still here and not all bad. but they would befriend maddox and alex in particular and it could be a fun little c plot. and then on the flip side the “villain” character is actually the kid of hero characters. it’d have to be someone more unpopular of course, maybe like a side character or something. but this character pretends to be friends with the wonderland kids, specifically bridget, but is only doing it to make fun of them with her friends. but these characters would expand on the original movies concept that you aren’t your parents yk.
the parents
i wouldn’t really change the parents much if at all! the casting is great but they’d be seen a little bit less in their adult forms & we wouldn’t see their young self at all. as for the mad hatter and alice, idk if we’d even see them but if we do it’s a very brief cameo like in the first descendants.
okay actual plot time!! lmao
so like i said the first part of the movie up to red’s song is basically going to be unchanged. uma decides to invite the wonderland kids to auradon prep, specifically selecting the twins, maddox, and alex to be the first four to be invited. the first song is unchanged it’s still red. maddox still ends up saving red’s ass but the scene is more comedic relief than anything with maddox’s changed character. we then get a bridget introduction with a brief interlude of life is sweeter (the full song would be later in the movie but i don’t want too many full songs clumped at once) that shows the differences between the two sisters. we would then cut to auradon to meet chloe, and that sequence is basically the same too.
the queen of hearts enters in the next scene, announcing the invitations to the twins. we also get a similar scene as in the actual movie of the queen trying to get red to decide on a punishment for the guard and refusing to kill him. she then tries the same with bridget, who also wants to save the man’s life, but tries to appease her mother by kind of talking in circles about why him being alive is somehow worse punishment. she begs her mom to let her to something else to make her happy but she doesn’t want to hurt someone. this is clearly a recurring pattern with the twins and their mom. the queen is disappointed in both girls and expresses this, but it clearly bothers bridget more outwardly than red.
we’d then cut into the love ain’t it song just for exposition purposes. in this version it would be a cut between the queen warning the twins about auradon and cinderella explaining some of the wonderland lore to chloe after getting news of the wonderland kids attending auradon. so they’re not at the school yet, meaning chloe hasn’t met red or anything. lyric changes would be necessary but the purpose is the same. the song establishes that the queen and cinderella used to be best friends as two outcasts at the school, but at a school dance a cruel prank got pulled on the queen, causing her to drop out and leave to wonderland. the queen didn’t used to be some sweet innocent like we saw in the movie, but she was less jaded according to cinderella.
the scene then cuts to a new day when the queen of hearts has decided to let the twins attend auradon. they have to leave right away. she’s come up with a grand plan on using her girls as spies to get information on auardon so she can plan a takeover. she doesn’t follow them to the school or try to take over immediately bc in what world would one person be able to solo an entire school of powerful magic users. i get she’s unhinged but no. bridget is immediately willing, relieved to have a task from her mother that doesn’t result in her having to directly hurt someone, while red clearly is uncomfortable with the idea but doesn’t say anything to her mom. the queen leaves to go fetch maddox and alex to allow them to attend auradon as well to cover for the twins. the idea is that while bridget and red are snooping around, maddox and alex will be actually innocent to cover it up. but the queen insists they can’t know of the plan. red and bridget have an argument about spying, red saying they shouldn’t enable her but bridget arguing that the queen is their mom. it’s clear bridget is kind of in denial that she’d still be contributing harm even if she’s not being directly violent. it establishes that bridget is a genuinely good person in most ways but is way too loyal to her mother and makes excuses she shouldn’t for her.
the twins fight gets interrupted by them having to leave to auradon so it’s left unresolved. the four wonderland kids go to auradon alone, like in the first descendants movie. they have a similarly awkward meeting with the other students, but instead of being seen as evil/scary, the students seem to think they’re bizarre. alex is asking 101 questions without taking a breath, maddox is trying to make jokes/observations but is just sounding kind of out of his mind, and bridget is so overexcited it makes people uneasy. red originally seems like the most normal, so chloe approaches her trying to befriend her. red shoots that down immediately, and the girls have an instant distaste for each other. instead of people being scared of the wonderland kids, people just think they’re weird/outcasts.
there’s scenes that establish that bridget is giving the queen of hearts actual helpful information to help a potential takeover — including very useful information about the museum when they take a class trip there. red, on the other hand, is instead giving her mother vague/partially true information with some flat out lies sprinkled in. she doesn’t want to cause her mother to flip out again, but she doesn’t want to help her either. with her experience rebelling against her mom, she’s able to not get caught in her actions. red and bridget argue about the spying throughout the movie.
despite their awkward first meeting, red and chloe keep getting paired up for things and continue to get on each other’s nerves. chloe also begins to get suspicious that red is planning something with her mother after hearing stories from cinderella. there’s probably a song here about their arguing. chloe thinks bridget is sweet and doesn’t suspect her, but continues to question red’s motives which is beyond infuriating for her since bridget’s the one actually spying. but she can’t say that and expose her sister because despite their disagreements they still have love for each other. perfect start for a rivals to frenemies to lovers arc if you ask me 👀 if we’re being real disney would tell me to go fuck myself with that but i said it’s MYYY descendants 4 so there is a lot of clear romantic tension here. small moments like red getting distracted mid insult by how pretty chloe looks that day or chloe complimenting red’s outfit without thinking. just little things to establish attraction but they still dislike each other on principle.
unlike red, the other wonderland kids are starting to find some friends at auradon despite seeming so odd on first meeting. red and bridget are naturally suspicious at first that people’s motives aren’t genuine after their mother’s story. bridget is actually the one that caved first though, as she is desperate for real friends and wants to fit in. maddox and alex bond with one of the vk’s who is also a bit of an outcast and that’s a c plot of the movie but i don’t have many concrete ideas for them since i’m focusing on the 3 girls mostly. but just know that’s happening! lol. eventually bridget gets paired up with a character well call “the bully” for a class assignment (as chloe and red are somehow paired up — again). bridget goes out of her way to be nice to this girl but isn’t getting anything in return. at the end of the class, there’s a scene of the bully talking with one of her friends and complaining about bridget. the friend suggests that the bully pretend to be bridget’s friend since it’s funny to make fun of her. the bully ends up inviting bridget to eat lunch with her friend group, and they pretend to like her just to laugh at her. bridget doesn’t pick up on this though. red tries to warn bridget against them, but bridget thinks she’s just being paranoid/jealous and ignores her. she has such a deep need to be liked that she ignores the red flags. this is also when bridget starts to question following her mother’s orders, but doesn’t tell red.
red is starting to feel like an outcast even among the wonderland kids with the others making friends. there’s a scene where maddox forgets about plans they had because his was with his new vk friend and they have a little spat over it. they end up making up within a few scenes though and maddox encourages red to try hanging out with him, alex, and their new friend. despite this she refuses to cave and let other people into her circle. oddly enough the person she probably talks to the most during this time is chloe.
the bully ends up learning about the prank that was pulled on the queen of hearts by overhearing the fairy godmother talking about it with another teacher. the other teacher is questioning putting on castlecoming out of concern it will be seen as an act of aggression to her daughters. but the fairy godmother insists on it continuing. the bully ends up devising a plan to make bridget castlecoming queen (or maybe a different title since there’s an actual queen lol but same idea) and turn her into a gross beast in front of everyone. it’s the same prank that happened to bridget’s mom.
as bridget believes she’s making genuine friends, she starts to consider how her actions will actually affect them. shes been feeling guilty the whole time but there’s a ballad here where it all comes to a head and she admits that even if she’s not the one swinging the sword, by spying she’s still putting the sword in her mother’s hands. she stops spying for her mom and starts ignoring her letters. she doesn’t have experience rebelling like red, so she doesn’t think to do what her sister does to avoid suspicion. it’s a moment of character growth. bridget tells red that she’s stopped spying, and red expresses how proud she is and they make up.
so in this movie, we actually get to SEE castlecoming bc why the fuck wouldn’t we!!!! we see all the characters in their outfits getting excited — even red is a bit giddy due to maddox joking with her and hyping her up. in the bathroom at the dance, chloe overhears the bully talking about her plan to prank bridget just like her mom was pranked all those years ago. she tries to warn bridget, but she runs into red instead. she tells red what she heard and the girls reluctantly team up to stop the prank. red gets maddox’s help too, but alex is with bridget all night and they aren’t able to tell him either. they keep either losing bridget in the crowd or being blocked by the bully’s friends. at one point red gets up to her sister and tries to pull her away to talk. bridget wants to go with her sister, but has to leave before red can explain everything because she got called up on stage as part of castlecoming court. red tries to run after her but gets blocked by the bully’s friends. she gets into an altercation with them, but maddox jumps in and the two of them together manage to win.
everything comes to a head when bridget is on stage being crowned castlecoming queen. the sad part is most people voted for her in earnest because she’s a sweet girl, but they ended up leading to her being humiliated on accident. red and chloe both corner the bully who has a spell book. maddox is trying to keep the bully’s friends distracted. unfortunately, chloe and red are just a second too late and the bully casts the spell before they can intervene. the bully then drops the book and manages to escape before anyone else sees it was them since everyone is watching the prank play out. it’s a carrie type moment but without all the murder obviously lmao. more just like vibes idk if that makes sense. as people are looking around to see who did it, someone locates the spell book right by red and chloe’s feet. as the fairy godmother hastily tries to undo the spell, someone yells out that it was chloe and red that did it. the girls start to panic and accuse the bully, but it’s too late because the evidence points to them. the bully of course jumps on this and goes to console bridget while declaring how evil red must be to betray her sister like this, and how hypocritical chloe is by pretending to be so high and mighty. maddox tries to defend them but it’s no use. in her anguish, bridget believes the bully. the movie ends with everyone in chaos and the sisters truly divided.
maybe there’d be a scene of the queen of hearts crashing castlecoming and seeing what went down but idk i kind of want the prank to be the climax of the movie yk. her shenanigans would come at a different time
in my head i also have the sequel for this written out LMAOO. that movie it would be about red and chloe trying to clear their names and catch the bully, while also trying to figure out how to stop bridget from helping her mother attack auradon (bc bridget would def align with her mom again after what happened). not that anyone is gonna read this mess of a post but i might write up the sequel anyways bc this was sooo much fun lmao
