A little bit of light piano practice between assignments. 🎹 You have no idea the amount of practice that has gone into this piece so far it's been a work in progress for like 4 goddamn years now. #music #piano #3rdmovement #moonlightsonata #beethoven #almostfuckingthere #me #studybreak

Practicing #maryhadalittlelamb as an #intonation #warmupexercise for some tricky passages in #violinconcerto in #gminor by #vivaldi #3rdmovement #allegro The “little lamb” melody is a perfect warm up because it repeats and returns to the same notes many times, offering a lot of practice in a familiar melody! Two videos: 1) mm 17-28. Warm up with “little lamb” in B flat major to master the intonation in m 17. Focus on maximizing the D string ring when playing the 3rd finger D on the G string. ~swipe left~ 2) mm 68-78. “Little lamb” in E flat major for m 68 - focus on the G string ring when playing the 3rd finger G on the D string. G major - focus on the ringing A, G, and D strings when playing these notes on different strings. #violinteacher #suzukiviolinteacher #antoniovivaldi #beautifulmusic #baroquemusic #baroquemusiclovers #soloviolin #soloviolinist #violinlesson #violinlessonsforkids #practiceroom #violinpractice #violintips #violinpedagogy #violintechnique #violinlover #violinguy (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS9JjMVAqgv/?utm_medium=tumblr

Using my #twinklebow #tinybow to practice #allegroassai (#3rdmovement ) from #violinconcerto in #aminor #bwv1041 by #jsbach The 2+1 slur pattern and #stringcrossings throughout this movement are challenging. I find it easiest to play in the lower half with the motion coming from the upper arm combined with some finger colle action. Playing near the frog makes the landings after the quick up bows easy and places the string crossings near the balance point of the bow. I love practicing with my twinkle bow because I can experience the lower half stroke I want without having to wonder if I’m low enough in the bow! Two videos: 1) Opening tutti practice version with twinkle bow ~swipe left~ 2) Performance version #bachconcerto #baroquemusiclovers #suzukiviolinmethod #suzukiviolinteacher #violinmasterclass #violinpractice #beautifulmusic #violinpedagogy #violintechnique #practiceroom #gigue #lingling40hours #violinpractice🎻 #violinguy #violinteacher #violinlessons #violintips (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSE1wq_gUZB/?utm_medium=tumblr

#practicingviolin the #vivaldi #memorization trap in #violinconcerto in #aminor #3rdmovement found in #suzukibook4 When #youngviolinists reach m 127, they often make a memory mistake and play the music found at m 60. This is because the preceding 5 measures (122-126) are identical to measures 55-59 transposed to a different key. Here’s a #practicepracticepractice strategy which can clear up the confusion around these two passages. This process may be used in any piece which contains similar passages where the player often takes a “wrong turn” in one or both of the passages. Four videos: 1) Practice only the parts which are the same (many times the passages will be in different keys, but otherwise the same). In this case I’m playing mm 55-59 and 122-127 with pickups back to back. ~swipe left~ 2) Same as step one with the addition of the first note that is different. Play the new, different note longer so it sinks into memory. For more intense and memorable practice, play the new note in different ways — accented, tremolo, significantly louder. ~swipe left~ 3) Continue a few measures into the parts which are different, placing a pause between the music that is the same and the music that’s different. Do something physical during this pause such as turn around, face the opposite direction, or exit the room. ~swipe left~ 4) Performance version. After practicing steps 1-3 as needed (over the course of several minutes to several days or weeks), the passages will become clearer in memory! #antoniovivaldi #vivaldiviolinconcerto #suzukibook4 #suzukiviolinmethod #suzukiviolinteacher #violinpedagogy #violinpractice🎻 #violinlove #intentionalpractice #memorytips #memorytime #practiceroom #violintechnique #stringpedagogy #violinlessonsforkids #violinguy (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR6MFiilASx/?utm_medium=tumblr

#practicingviolin #concertoinaminor by #antoniovivaldi #3rdmovement #presto mm 75-91 #metronomepractice suggestion: 3 videos: 1) Set metronome at moderate tempo, play one measure at a time, waiting a full measure (two clicks) between measures. 2) Same or slightly faster tempo, now with one beat (1 click) between each measure 3) Performance version. Practicing in this manner does several things: 1) Keeps the brain engaged and allows the brain to “catch up” during the intervening rests so the fingers won’t be practicing stumbling into each note. 2) Improves steadiness - hearing the clicks between each measure gives the student a chance to reset the tempo if any rushing has occurred. 3) Improves stumble recovery during performance - Students who practice like this are building in multiple starting points so if they happen to stumble in a performance recovery will be swift. Student who only practice from beginning to end will have trouble recovering from stumbles. Practice tips: Many children will struggle with the interruptions at first. Help them by prompting “wait, wait” during the resting clicks. Avoid counting or saying “ready, go” as these prompts are generally associated with sudden actions (like racing) and can introduce tension in the body and rushing. “Wait, wait” is the way to go! #vivaldiconcerto #suzukiteacher #suzukilesson #violinteacher #violintechnique #stringpedagogy #metronome #suzukiviolinmethod #suzukibook4 #vivaldi #vivaldiviolinconcerto #practiceroom #musicpractice #practicemakesprogress #beautifulmusic #violinguy #violinlover #violinstagram #violinlessonsforkids (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQi2iNUg9TI/?utm_medium=tumblr

#violinpractice🎻 #bachconcerto The slurred passages in #concertoinaminor #3rdmovement #allegroassai by #jsbach presents rhythmic, bowing, and, tone production challenges. Here’s how I practice and present these passages to my students: 3 videos: 1) practice only the subdivisions without bowings, turning all notes into multiples of 16th notes as demonstrated. It is helpful to play a complete measure on a single note to establish the 16th not pulse ahead of the passage you’re practicing. 2) slurred staccato - use the performance bowing and rhythm but with slurred notes re-articulated as shown. This step ensures each note “speaks” and it also helps the player plan out the bow distribution. 3) performance version - rhythms are accurate and all slurred notes sound brilliantly! I’ve chosen to demonstrate measures 100-104 because it’s the longest such passage. Practice similar passages in the same manner: 31-32 42-43 52-53 88-89 #violintips #violinteacher #suzukiteacher #violinmaster #violinmasterclass #violintechnique #violinpedagogy #stringplayers #stringsattached #suzukiviolinteacher #suzukimethodviolin #suzukiteacher #metodosuzuki #practiceroom #practicejournal #violinlove #baroquemusiclovers #ilovebach #violinworld (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP593oyA68W/?utm_medium=tumblr
