WEEK 2

During this week, as a team, we were tasked to research, interview, and think of a problem in society that can be addressed by technology, with profit as a factor to consider. As the leader of the group, I told my groupmates to search for a problem in different sectors. I am to think about Idea 1, Joshua and Janmark about Idea 2, and Deserie about Idea 3. After all of that, we generated each idea and were able to narrow it down to the top three ideas, which are SEEKers, BiyaHEY! , as well as CalSet.

As we are presenting our three ideas, we have been told that my idea is quite similar to that of the start-up Avodah, but I do believe that the project will become unique in its own way because this is the result of my observation and understanding of what is needed. BiyaHEY! on the other hand, is quite interesting, but CalSet is far too difficult to implement. Following the presentation of our ideas, we are advised to interview the target customers, conduct research, and deliberate to determine which idea is the best.

Week 2 Blog

In week 2 every team given a task to think of 3 ideas or proposal. Our team has a group chat and we also have virtual meeting in Google meet, we already have 3 meetings. Even if it is hard to think of a new idea our team gathered four ideas and each of us participate even of a busy schedule. To be honest it is really hard to think of a new idea.

3 ideas CCREAM para empezar...

Junto a mis compañeros de equipo quisimos expresar lo que sentiamos sobre la basura y como afecta nuestro planeta de una manera distinta, queriamos ser directos e indirectos, agresivos y pacíficos, asquerosos y cuidadosos, queriamos ofender y gustar. Como transmitir todo esto es casi imposible en una sola obra de arte, decidimos hacer 3.

1. Quisimos mostrar objetos cotidianos en un antes y después. Como eran previos a pasar por todo el proceso que los llevo a caer en Capurro.

2. Queriamos ubicar al público que nunca iria a Capurro en esa realidad, queriamos que se sientan rodeados por la mugre y la realidad.

3. Nuestra última idea era mostrar el proceso en el que la basura fue desechada, queriamos hacer que el público sienta lástima por el “personaje”. Mostrar mediante un video por ejemplo como una pelota es comprada para un niño, este la utiliza, tiene mil recuerdos con esa pelota hasta que se pincha, la deja tirada en la calle, y de allí va al río, es arrastrada por la corriente hasta llegar a Capurro. Y allí queda, ya sea hasta que una ONG haga una movida grande y la retire, o infinitamente.

3Ideas Development Workshop 

Today in Sharon’s workshop I explored the word “Salt”. The world salt brings a lot to mind for me. I think of salt water, salt water erosion, surfing, swimming, buoyancy. I also think of the slang term “salty”.  It means to be angry, irritated or hostile. I often feel salty towards the gender imbalance in surfing.

This semester we are focusing on side projects and being more thoughtful on our business mindset. This semester we will be focusing on to targets, creating a digital product and a website for said product.

We explored how Digital products are changing the market. Pixar being a good example of this. Normally with this scale of company you would not expect it to be made using square-space.

This led Chris to teach us its good to have multiple strands to your career. He gave examples such as teaching, consulting, writing and digital products.

Our first task is ‘future idea generation’. The goal is to come up with 3 different ideas of a digital products. Each of these is to be considered in detail. With an overview of the concept.

Chris got us to use the 8ideas in 8minutes task. Our aim was to come up with 8 different ideas of Digital products, with only 1 minute to come up with each idea. It was a cool new way of idea generation that I have not tried before. Not all of the concepts I came up with were great but I may be able to explore one or two of these for the 3ideas project. 

Chris noted its a-lot more productive and enjoyable to use idea around things we enjoy, such as sports, music, hobbies etc. My intention for this first task is relate it to something I enjoy.

I want to play with how words got around before present day (advanced) technology.

My idea is that I gather a series of ways in which a written letter can be moved from the writer to the reader. Samples like the Model T, Human being, bicycle, horse and buggy, and the Wright Brothers “Wright Flyer”. I don’t want to go into present day technology as much because information travels almost instantly.

One idea of how I would put this into an artwork is that I would work on a map, set two locations and track the paths of the voyage from point A to point B, drawing a line for each individual vessel. The aircraft will be the displacement but the earth geological structure will create organic and sharp lines in the way of road, trails and other paths. When I draw up the voyages I want to be as realistic as possible (humans can walk through the woods while cars cannot). A locational map has not been decided, I was hoping to do a location from a significant historical event where getting information to a point B was urgent (Paul Reveres journey, or a war scenario).    

The outcome figure is what I’m looking at, it would be traced from the map onto a plain canvas, Or I thought maybe I’d leave it on the map and present it in an older fashion. It would look like a shape and or lines upon the surface, whichever its laid on.

Usually books have paper in them, so I was thinking what if there was a book that contained food in it as little samples. I think I’d do samples of candy’s that are common in our local stores (Twizzlers, chocolates, Swedish fish, etc.), or older candies, candies that not very many of the youth would know about (Necco Wafers, Candy Buttons, Cadberry creme eggs). I want to display them in the book of samples chronologically as they were developed and set on the market because a lot of candies we eat today have actually come from the 60s and 70s. To present this off would be interesting to tell the truth that not everything “new” is really new, much like leggings in a sense. I don’t know what I would name my book. I want the colors to pop like they did back in the mid-nineties. I don’t know how far back in time; tootsie rolls were made back in 1896 so I might start there because Tootsie Rolls are a very popular Candie. This is my second favorite idea.

Another avenue I was thinking to take would be to would be to show the candy side by side with pictures of rotting teeth from sugar. I would want to make the sweet delectable box of sweets into something someone would want to pick up but double think themselves as they open it. I would like to admit I like the first idea more.

           My third idea is to go about is that I survey students. Colleges are a melting pot of different origins and each student tells a different story. If I survey a number of people, each variable would be asked of their origin. This information will be recorded and arranged and the   results would be posted on a large map of the world. If I don’t get any results outside of the United States I will confine the map. I would use small pins on the board and the map would be relatively large in size. I am estimating 3’X 4’.  

The survey area would start on Eastern Michigan University and could be expanded to several other colleges campuses in the Ann Arbor area (U of M, Concordia), and would almost be beneficial for the project.
