Chapter 39- Part 11
A bit of Amnesia once again, and…
THAT'S NOT GONNA WORK THIS TIME!! SHE HAS MAGMA ARMOR!!
Now if I can just hit a Lava Plume, then…
YES!!
IT DIDN'T MATTER BECAUSE IT MISSED!!
Shoot, the…only ones left are Frost and Vulcan, and only Vulcan is at full HP.
But I doubt he's gonna live a Psyshock, right…?
OHHHH, HE GOT IT!! GET ‘ER!! But I shouldn't celebrate so soon because Flamethrower did not kill and Vulcan can't outspeed…
WAIT! SUCKER PUNCH!! I KNEW THAT WAS A GOOD MOVE TO KEEP ON HIM!
…I swear, my luck throughout this whole fight has been whatever Arceus finds most funny in the moment…
Now all that's left is…
I think Frost can at least outspeed and kill this Jynx, though? Unless she doesn't and gets one-shotted by Focus Blast-
Oooh, Focus Blast didn't get reflected by the mirrors!! That's great! And now, Serra's final Pokémon is…
Well, I got five out of her six team members right…but at what cost?
Froslass’ crazy Evasion makes no difference because Mirror Shot is guaranteed to hit on this Field, but I may need to heal Frost first to survive whatever Froslass is plotting…
Frosslass is plotting Shadow Ball, apparently! Shoot, there's no way Frost survives a second one- no, no, I'm not gonna reset until I know I have to. Gonna try and use Mirror Shot anyways, let's just hope…! Or maybe it's more like cope at this point…!
AAAAAAAAH???
...Yeah, I…need a second, I need to go find where my jaw fell. I guess Frost's characteristic isn't just for the IVs.
Real talk, I feel like I should check if Frost surviving was a legit roll, what the odds of that were…
(Future edit: It was 68.8% to kill there, sooo-)
Well that's not suspicious in the slightest, I'm sure that'll be fine.
Oooh, the Rime Badge you say? Neat name! Though maybe I'm a bit biased because me and my friends are gonna be playing Rime of the Frostmaiden in a few days...
Ah yeah, Ame did say that was her signature move- makes sense she'd give out the TM for it.

WIBTA if I confronted my ex-fiance's current partner and challenged him to a duel? (OC)
I (M, 26) am a higher up in an organisation that focusses on combat, and I've worked my way up the ranks through nothing but combat prowess and my own skill. As a result, I've gained notoriety in my field, and I'm head and shoulders above my fellows - Uh, not literally. It's more just half a head at the least.
My social standing has also increased as a result, and, five years ago, my childhood best friend (F, 25) said her family had finally given their blessing for us to marry! I was elated, so happy! And everything WAS happy... Until the year after.
Two decades or so ago, war broke out in our country. It was a... A lot, but I barely recall it, you know? I was a young child.
Anyhow, when I was celebrating at my fiancee's house, we were visited by... The exact role is difficult to describe, but she's like an oracle. She told us that it was the will of god that the man she had alongside her (M, 39), a veteran of that war, would be brought into the household and made to marry my fiance. Which... Well, I don't think any of us were particularly happy with this, but will of god ig. Her parents reluctantly agreed, and I'm... Kind of alone now? I still really like her, so I couldn't try to get with any other girl or guy. I'm welcomed in ber house still, but it feels really awkward, now.
It doesn't end there, though. After a year or so, the veteran also took a position at the job I work at. And while I started at a low position, I'd worked my way up at that point. What took me three years or so to do took him... Three months. And he tried to act very friendly and apologetic, but I don't buy it. He's as smart, as handsome, and even taller than me. It's very degrading, and I'm fairly certain he's patronising me at this point.
I was at my wits end, being slowly replaced from my own life, it felt like, over the course of then to now. I ended up complaining to an old family friend of mine (F, 68 - I think..?), and she encouraged me to enact vengeance. And, er, I know I'm jealous of the guy, and she's all tough as nails and scary and whatever, but I don't really want to. Er. Do that.
...But the idea's starting to sound better and better. His and my ex's wedding is soon, I know that, and my life has only continued going downhill. Something needs to change.
...In our (joint) career, if you want to progress higher, you need to beat out your competition, literally. Duels are how you go up in the world. And while officially, they're meant to be until submission or surrender... Duels to the death aren't too uncommon. Expected, even.
He's at the same point as me progression-wise, and uh. We're both up for promotion. And if there's one thing I'm better at than him, it's sheer swordsplay. He may be stronger and faster, but he doesn't have my technique. But even now, I feel conflicted with my friend's advice. He's thrown himself into my life, but I don't know if I have the right to feel upset? Or even why I feel upset? It's the will of god.
...But I'll push on regardless. Is it a dick move to challenge this man to a duel, possibly to the death?

I had two messages come in about Gretna Green after I mentioned it in episode #671.
Shel O'Toole wrote: "Hi Marc, It was interesting to hear you refer to Gretna Green. My knowledge of it was as a place people eloped to. A quick search of Google confirmed my memories. It was interesting to discover Gretna is a town built during World War 1.
The village of Gretna Green is still thriving and it sounds like a great place to visit. It is certainly on my list of places to visit should I get to fulfill my dream of going to Scotland.
I discovered in the past couple of years my maternal grandmother’s family is from Ayrshire in Scotland. They came from a village called Coylton.
I look forward to hearing about your whiskey tour and seeing photos of Scotland.
I’m really enjoying today’s show #671
Thanks for all the great music Marc.
Sliãnte"
Wayne Myers wrote: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 671 while playing soccer today and heard you mention the Scottish village of Gretna Green. There is a fantasy author named Linzi Day who lives there and has her book series set there. I know she is amenable to answering questions, because she answered mine.
Her book series is The Midlife Recorder series, which starts with Midlife in Gretna Green. Love the show. Slainte."
Mary Lynn Deal sent a message on Patreon: "Hi Marc, I'm doing some 3d printing and office work at home while listening today. Still enjoying every minute. Have a wonderful day, Slainte,"
Rod Nevin commented on Patreon: "Lovely collection of music! By the way Marc, I have to tell you because I know you would want to know, the tune title for Arise & Go has “Strathspeys” and reels, and the correct pronunciation for strathspey is “strath’spay” … last syllable being what Bob Barker always reminded us to do our pets. 😎"

Hush || [H.P.]
[Navigation] [Masterlist]
anon: 🌸Hi! Can I request a Harry Potter + books + fluff? Thank you!!
for asteria’s 4k celebration by @chokemepansy congrats boo u deserve it <3
prompts:
27. that’s the first time i’ve ever seen you smile.
39. you ramble and it’s adorable.
Pairing: Harry Potter x Reader
Requested?: yes
Summary: You meet Harry with the strangest combination of setting: an Invisibility Cloak, Peanut Butter M&Ms, and the eerie aura of Borgin and Burkes.
Words: 1.8k
Song: Hush by Lasse Lindh (loosely based)
Category: FLUFF
A/N: okayyy i’m sorry this took so long! i have been uninspired lately. hope you like it nonetheless, anon :))
Still bewildered, Harry scoured the place once more, eyes darting left and right. If the Malfoys caught sight of him now. . . No, he will not let that happen. His mind now lingered to what Dobby had told him not so long ago before he made it to the Burrow. Finding himself stagnant in the street that reeked of everything grim, Harry willed himself to move and find out where he is when he reread the sign of the shop he just left. Borgin and Burkes?
He took a mental note of this as he straightened himself, trying to look as if he fit in there. Which, of course, wasn’t a very good job. Even so, he slightly let his guard down and stretched his arms before him. The enclosed space he hid in just a while ago was now making an impression on his feeble body.
Just when he started to stretch his body higher, something soft — and itchy — cast itself down on him and draped on his outstretched limbs, and he saw Lucius Malfoy with his son at his tail walking back to his direction. What was happening? He’d been staring right at the pair, now getting closer and closer but the moment he was only a a few inches away, they made a turn and went back to Borgin and Burkes, paying him no mind at all. That can’t be right. Of course, Harry did not want to be seen by the Malfoys at all but this might be worse after all. Was this the Dark Lord’s doing.
Harry then realized something was breathing up his neck now that everything had remained still. “I don’t like them, either.” Said a small voice. “Could you please bend down lower? It’s too small for us.”
“Wha — ?”
“What are you even doing here at Knockturn Alley?” The voice said again. A hand now reposed at the top of his head, keeping him low. “Your hair is unruly, but it’s really soft. I like it.”
“Er — sorry, who are you?” He remained rooted to where he was standing, not daring to make a move lest the Malfoys step out and spot him. “Is this. . . Is this an Invisibility Cloak?”
“Firstly, I’m nobody. I’m assuming you’re Neville Longbottom?” They were in an awkward position now, and Harry’s knees were bound to give in any minute. “They say you’re shaky.”
“Uh. . . Yes, that is correct. I’m. . .Neville Longbottom.” Harry said, not wanting to recount and elaborate what transpired when he was a mere infant or show the scar on his forehead.
“No you’re not, but sure.”
Wildly confused, Harry opened his mouth to say something when a palm clasped it shut. The longer the hand stayed there, he recognized that it smelled exactly like a mix of Chocolate Frogs and a bunch of other chocolate he could not name, and with a start he noticed wrappings of different candies on the cold pavement.
Draco Malfoy was now about ten inches away from them. Arms crossed, he was muttering something under his breath. Harry couldn’t hear what it was. The blonde boy then started to pace the front of the shop, alarming the pair. “Back up,” the voice, which he just now distinguished as a girl’s, whispered. “Right foot first.”
He did as he was told. They were aiming to be tucked into the turret window’s sides. For three steps, they were successful until the sound of crinkling foil halted them. Draco had stepped on one of the wrappers. As the two pressed closer together, strands of the girl’s hair caught on his sweaty arm.
“Gringotts, that’s from my Peanut Butter M&Ms!” She hissed louder than she should have that Draco looked in their direction. Harry started to sweat. He started to weigh which was worse: seeing Voldemort’s face at the back of Quirrell’s head or being seen by Draco Malfoy in this place. He could imagine the smug grin on his face as he would run to tell his father. “I think he heard us. By the way, is Gringotts a good exclamation? It’s not nearly as good as ‘Goodness’ and ‘Oh my God’ and ‘Gracious’ but it’s starting to grow on me. Gringotts. Gringotts.”
He did not want to say it but it had to be said. “Shut up, please. Kindly. . . ?”
“Did you just respectfully ask me to shut up?” She was about to giggle, and Harry knew it. Thankfully, she didn’t, but he knew full well she was trying hard not to do so. And with a sharp inhale, she whispered, “Request granted.”
Harry tried to move, but he could only see the top of the girl’s hair, messy just like his own. To his relief, the girl kept her promise and remained silent. The wrapper was now between Draco Malfoy’s bony fingers, a revulsed expression on his pale face.
“Muggle candy,” he spat, as if it was the most disgusting thing he had ever laid his eyes on. Beside Harry, the girl let out a snort, causing the blond boy to drop the wrapper in alarm. He hurriedly wiped his palms down his shirt, still disgusted at what he picked up and rushed back into Borgin and Burkes.
“Go!” The girl commanded, locking her arm around his and dragging him away from the grim-looking storefront and taking a turn. He was trying to synchronize his footsteps with her, but she was been going too fast, so when they finally put enough distance between them and the store, Harry stepped on the cloak, the two of them tumbling over the rocky pavement.
Not so far from him lay the source of the unknown voice — a younger girl with long [H/C] hair who lay flat on her face with arms splayed on the cloak she had draped over them not so long ago. Harry’s glasses were a little out of his reach, his vision blurry.
It took around ten seconds before she finally stood up, dusting her pajamas. The girl turned around and offered her hand to him. Harry, transfixed more than ever, remained frozen.
“Come on, now, you’re lying on the cloak. We have to get going too.” Harry shook himself back to consciousness and took the girl’s hand. As he rose from his spot, the mess of various books scattered across the pavement caught his eye. Of course, he couldn’t see clearly but he also noticed they weren’t the type Flourish and Blotts sold — they were books you borrowed from Muggle libraries.
Just as he was about to crouch back down to search for his glasses, the girl handed it to him. “It was broken but I fixed it, enjoy your sight.”
“Er — thank you?” Harry said hesitantly as he put on his glasses. He could now read a couple of the books’ titles — The Velveteen Rabbit, The Little Prince. . . Harry started to pick up the ones near him as he watched her do the same and stuff things back into her bag. The last book he picked up was Bridge to Terabithia. He had read that book a few years ago, but he couldn’t remember what happened very well. But how could a Muggleborn have her hands on an Invisibility Cloak just like his? “Are you. . .”
“Muggleborn? Nope! I’m [Y/N] [Y/L/N]. And seeing the look on your face, you probably don’t know my family. See, my mother’s a pureblood and my father’s a Squib. Very complicated, really. But mama’s happy with our life. Oh, and this isn’t really an Invisibility Cloak, she just did some weird charms on my blanket. That’s why it’s so small.”
“Oh, well, that makes sense. Er — why do you have these bo—”
“Let’s talk on the way, Harry Potter. The Malfoys might be around soon.” She had locked her arm into the crook of his elbow, leading him away from Knockturn Alley. “Okay, about the books. . . I really like Muggle fiction. I just finished Bridge to Terabithia but I can’t help reading it over and over again. Wizard books are so boring. It’s just a bunch of spells over and over again.”
“I think it’s pretty cool.”
“Wizard books?”
“Um, er — yes. I mean, the books you like are good too. I’ve read. . . Readed? No, no, read. . . The bridge thing. Bridge to Terabithia, I mean.”
[Y/N] let out a derisive snort, patting his head as they made their way out. “You ramble and it’s adorable.”
Harry scratched his neck, looking around the alley as they continued, not knowing what to say. Did she really just pat his head? “So. . . What were you doing there? At Borgin and Burkes, I mean.” In pajamas.
“Okay, that’s a funny story — except that it’s not because my mom will probably give me an hour long lecture after this if she finds out about the truth but here’s the thing: we travelled by Floo powder and I went through first and I came out in Diagon Alley as planned but I wanted to see what was up with the infamous Knockturn Alley. I’ll be going to Hogwarts for the first time and I wanted to check out new things. Oh, and I’ll say I came out from Borgin and Burkes! Am I a genius or what?”
“A genius, I guess?”
“You didn’t really have to answer, but thank you kindly. How about you? What were you doing at Borgin and Burkes?”
“Your cover-up story’s my real story.”
“Oh, Gringotts, great minds really do think alike!” Just like that, they remained silent again until the girl brightened up, remembering something. “You said you’ve read Bridge to Terabithia?”
“Yes, I—”
“Do you think I should cut my hair just like Leslie’s? You could be my Jess, too, if you’d like. I think you’d make a good Jess.”
“Oh, uh, sure. You do kind of seem like Leslie.”
“Maybe I should start referring to my parents by their first name, too!”
He must have done something stupid, for a look of utter disbelief took over her face. “Do that again,” she said.
“Do what?”
“That’s the first time I’ve ever seen you smile, and I think it looks very good on you. Keep doing it more often. I mean, not that I’m commanding you to do so. I just think you look pretty.” She said, her face dead serious. “Anyway, thank you for thinking I remind you of Leslie. I hope I live long enough, though.”
She was searching something in her bag, but her shoulders drooped after a few seconds worth of searching. “That was the last Peanut Butter M&M’s I had. My father got it for me from a Muggle grocery. I like it a lot, I think you would too.”
Harry did not have the heart to tell her he had consumed it multiple times before, and so he simply replied, “No doubt.”
As they kept walking, he couldn’t help but realize he had started to look forward to the new school year with this girl who walked alongside him.

what are you doing new year’s eve?
So this final fic of 2020 is dedicated to @odd-birds-and-booksellers for multiple reasons. Firstly she’s been my first friend in the Jolex fandom and one of the reasons the group chat exists. Despite how much we make fun of each other she’s truly become one of my favorite people (she knew I was pregnant approximately 15 seconds after I peed on a stick and hours before anyone else) and I wouldn’t have stuck around here without her.
Secondly it’s dedicated to her because my final fic for the year is an ode to the reason I’m in this fandom in the first place and the series she keeps begging me to write for. That’s right y’all, I’m posting a piece for my “It’s Nothing Funny Just to Talk/Little Pieces of You” universe! (she thought I was gonna kill someone... hehehe)
I hope y’all enjoy this cute and fluffy one shot! Thank you all for reading, commenting, and encouraging me to write this year!
also one million anons asked me for a birth fic... well here it kinda is
xoxo Nina
Maybe it's much too early in the game
Oh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?
Jo was fine, really she was. She blamed being two weeks from her due date for the state of discomfort she found herself in. She’d been experiencing Braxton Hicks for almost a month already (something Alex loved to point out that he could always see as it happened, much to Jo’s annoyance) so the tightening of her abdomen wasn’t a new feeling. What was new was the aching in her back and hips that had prompted her to take a long steamy shower in an attempt to ease a bit of the pain and discomfort she felt.
The water had helped a bit, but all Jo really wanted was for Alex to rub her back and hold her while she napped. He had asked before he left for work if she was alright, but Jo had assured him she was fine. New Year’s Eve was always a long night for him at work with an influx of teenagers hurt by firework accidents or drunken mishaps. She has reminded him that she wasn’t due for two weeks and she would make it through one night without him there. Now though, Jo was regretting her decision as she struggled to get comfortable on their couch, her back aching as she shifted back and forth.
“Hoooooly shit,” Jo gripped the armrest of the couch tightly as she attempted to sit up, a roaring pain ripping through her stomach as she desperately tried to get air into her lungs. The feeling passed after a moment, letting her take a deep breath as she settled one hand onto her stomach. “I need you to calm down in there, please and thank you.” Her phone chose that moment to ding loudly, a text from Alex popping up as she reached for her phone.
Thursday 4:39 PM
How are my girls doing?
Thursday 4:41 PM
all good over here :)
Deciding not to mention her pain, Jo set her phone aside and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. Whenever her Braxton Hicks got bad Alex would always tell her it was because she was dehydrated. He was usually right, though she’d never admit it, but the water usually calmed down the sensations flowing through her body.
Slowly making her way to the kitchen, Jo grabbed a glass and sipped on the water as she tried to even her breathing. Her mind was already racing, heart pounding as she tried to keep her composure. She’d only had one bad spout of pain, it could be a fluke or a pulled muscle for all she knew.
The searing pain she’d felt only minutes before returned again, the glass in her hands slipping from her fingers as a pained groan left her. Watching the water and glass splatter across the counter top, Jo realized how serious her pain was. Her eyes flitted to the clock, noting it was just hitting 5 PM. Alex would be home at 11, she would hold out as long as she could until then.
-
Thursday 6:32 PM
Want me to grab a late dinner for us? Figure you’ll still be up anyways.
Alex stared down at the text he’d sent almost 20 minutes earlier as if his staring would prompt a response from his wife. Logically he knew she was probably sleeping, but he’d been worried about her all day. She’d barely slept the night before and her back had been hurting for almost two days now. He wasn’t stupid he’d done enough rounds on OB to know that Jo was probably getting close to going into labor, a thought that both excited and terrified him. Erring on the side of caution, he dialed Jo’s number and waited for her to answer.
“Hi you’ve reached Josephine Karev! I’m probably teaching right now so leave a message after the beep!”
“Hey babe, call me back whenever you can. Love you.”
Hanging up the phone and grumbling to himself, Alex begrudgingly turned back to his patient files. He had a lot of work to do, but his mind was currently occupied worrying about his wife and their unborn daughter.
-
“Oh shit… oh shit no no no,” Jo’s panicked cries echoed across the empty loft as another contraction made its way through her stomach, her body curling in on itself as she struggled to lean against the couch. A glance at the clock in the kitchen told her it was only 7:19 meaning Alex wouldn’t be home for a few more hours.
She knew she couldn’t last that long, her contractions were steadily growing closer together and more painful. Reaching for her phone, Jo sent off a quick text before focusing her attention on breathing through the steady flow of contractions now racking her body.
Thursday 7:21 PM
in labor, moving fast. need drugs and husband.
-
It was nearing 8 PM and Alex still hadn’t heard from Jo for the last three hours. He’d called twice to no answer and his texts were sent but not read. He was ready to jump in the car and rush home to check on her when someone called out his name.
“Alex!”
Jackson Avery was jogging towards him, dressed in a button up and slacks with a six month old Harriet on his hip. He’d been talking about his mom’s New Year’s Eve party all week, so Alex was shocked to see him there.
“Hey man, you skipping out on the party,” Alex searched Jackson’s serious expression for a moment, reading his best friend's face easily and letting a sigh out. “Where is she?”
“April took her up to L&D while I came to find you. She was screaming at me the whole drive here,” Jackson smirked at Alex as they walked down the halls. “I’m sure you’re in for a fun night.”
Thanking Jackson, Alex headed towards the maternity ward with a sense of urgency. He knew if Jo had been worried enough to call April that she was probably pretty far along in her labor. Spotting the red head down the hall, he picked up his pace and stopped in front of her.
“They’re just checking her out now, her contractions have been coming every three and half minutes but I think they’re speeding up,” April gave Alex a small smile as she made to leave. “She’s been asking for you the whole time.”
“Thanks April.”
“It’s the least I could do. When I was in labor she sat with me while Jackson was in surgery despite the fact that she was throwing up every twenty minutes from her morning sickness,” April shrugged. “Besides if I didn’t go she probably would’ve given birth on your couch.”
Alex chuckled, his hand rubbing his neck nervously, “I’ll text you guys when she’s here, thanks again.”
April left then, Alex taking a breath before entering the room that April had just left. Jo was laid in bed, eyes closed and curled in on herself as she struggled through a contraction. Surging forward Alex placed one hand on Jo’s back as the other moved to run through her hair. She instantly relaxed at his touch, eyes popping open to meet his.
“I was wondering why you weren’t answering my texts,” Alex leaned down to press a kiss against her forehead. “You need anything? Water, ice chips, hard drugs?”
Jo shook her head, breathing through the end of her contraction before speaking again, “No they said I’m too far along for an epidural. I just have to suffer until she gets here. My water broke as soon as I walked into the hospital, I think she knew you were waiting.”
Eyeing the monitor tracking her contractions, Alex realized that she was nearing the end of her labor, “You should’ve called me, I could’ve come to get you.”
“Doesn’t matter, I’m here now,” Jo leaned against Alex’s hand as she struggled to pull a breath in. “Ow ow ow ow, holy shit mother-”
Jo’s next words were silenced as she pressed her face against Alex’s chest, fists clenched against the bed rail as her body tensed once more. Keeping his eyes on her monitor, Alex kept his fingers running through Jo’s hair in an attempt to comfort her, “Breathe baby, it’s okay just breathe.”
Once she finally took a deep breath Jo relaxed in Alex’s hold, her voice alarmingly calm as she spoke, “I really need to push. Like right now.”
“Let me get the doctor, just hold on a minute babe,” Alex couldn’t help the wide grin he sported as he left Jo’s side to call down the hallway for her doctor. In just a little while they were going to be parents…
-
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Happy New Year!”
The TV played softly in the background as fireworks lit up the dim hospital room but Alex and Jo weren’t paying attention to the celebration of the new year. Both had their eyes firmly locked on the sleeping bundle in Jo’s arms, light curls peeking out of the pink hat on her head as her lips pursed in her sleep.
“You do that when you’re sleeping,” Alex pointed out as he ran his finger down his daughter’s cheek. “You look like a fish, it’s kinda funny that she’s already doing it.” “She’s not even three hours old and you’re comparing her to a fish,” Jo chuckled as she looked from her daughter to her husband. “She needs a name still.”
“How about Goldie,” Alex’s suggestion earned him a slap on the arm from Jo, a laugh escaping him as she did so. “I was kidding! What about the one you really liked?” Eyeing her daughter as if testing out the name she’d brought up so many months ago, a grin settled on Jo’s face, “I like it. Annabeth Brooke Karev.”
“Glad we finally decided on that, I thought you were never going to choose,” Alex pressed a kiss to Jo’s lips, then another to the top of Annie’s head. “Happy New Year Annie.”
Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly 12 o'clock, midnight
Welcoming in the New Year, New Year's Eve

Today’s show is an all - instrumental podcast episode. I have a lot of great music to share as well as a fascinating observation. In the past, it is the Celtic songs that were voted on the most for the Celtic Top 20. But I was looking at the last few weeks. And it’s the Celtic tunes, the instrumentals, that are dominating your voting.
That is fantastic. So keep those votes coming. But I guess that also means I should do a Celtic song episode in the coming weeks. I’d love to know what your favorite contemporary Celtic songs are. By that I mean, what original songs by Celtic musicians do you love the best?
I have found several songs on this podcast that were covered by other Celtic artists. I might do a show like that in the future too. We shall see. But let me know your thoughts.
Thanks also to our Executive Producers, author Rie Sheridan Rose (www.riewriter.com), and Richard Trest of the Middle Tennessee Highland Games & Celtic Festival (www.midtenngames.com) on Sept 7 - 8, 2024 at Sanders Ferry Park, Hendersonville.
If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don’t have to send in music or an EPK. You will get a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music and learn how to follow the podcast. It’s 100% free. Thomas Michl emailed from the south of Germany: “Hello Marc,
in your last newsletter you ask about personal favourites and I do indeed have a band that I haven't heard in your podcast yet, but that I really like: The Rattling Kind with Eddie Sherlock (Dublin)
I would love to hear them on your podcast. Otherwise, I'm already looking forward to St Patrick's Day with good music from the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast ; - )
Greetings”
Kathy Glasgow replied to my St Patrick’s Day request: “I celebrated by getting my next semester of classes ready while listening to your podcast. I have them on my phone, so I was also listening to them today between classes. “
Ryan McKinney of O'McPub Band: “Marc,
Thank you for all you've done for Irish and Celtic music. We've listened for a number of years and I play in an Irish folk duo with my friend Joe. We've been playing at pubs and wherever else they will take us for a few years now. We are finally going to try and get some of our versions of Irish tunes recorded but not exactly sure where to start. Then I remembered you offer the ebook on digital music. We would greatly appreciate your guidance and suggestions to make sure we think of everything.
Thanks again and hope when we get everything done we can someday hear ourselves on your podcast!
Slainte,”
Hey BTW, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is now a proud sponsor of IrishFest Atlanta in November. I’ll have more details in the future.
Check out this episode!

Starting Over Chapter 39
I woke up wrapped in the security of Bucky’s arms - and wearing my nightclothes which I have to admit took a few extra beats to catch up to remembering the cause - but his lips were on mine and it didn’t matter why. Nightclothes, late nights, even gunshot victims sleeping their pain meds off on our couch didn’t matter - not when Bucky was kissing me awake.
“Brooke!,” the tiny voice that called my name had both mine and Bucky’s eyes snapping open and widening. “Buck kissed you up like Rora in Sleepin’ Beauty.” And then a round of toddler giggles that had both of us pulling away with what I had to think was a silent prayer of gratitude for our fucking nightclothes.
There, with her tiny chin propped on Bucky’s side of our bed and her dark eyes staring up at us, was Bryn. And now that we were WIDE awake, I could hear voices downstairs - and if I wasn’t completely fucking insane - I was hearing MORE than just Connie and Sharon’s.
While I kept Bryn occupied, Bucky slid out of my side of the bed. A three year old does NOT need to see what Bucky Barnes is packing early in the morning, trust me. I pulled her up into the bed with me and grabbed the remote to the TV.
“What do you want to watch?” After putting it on her favorite early morning cartoon, I settled back against the headboard and smiled when I realized that Byrn had compared Bucky to a prince. “Bryn?” She hummed and I slid my fingers through her loose curls. “What’s the prince’s name in Sleeping Beauty?”
“Phillip.” It didn’t come from Bryn. It came from the doorway and a very masculine voice. I glanced over to where Bucky stood, fully dressed now and I grinned with a raised eyebrow. “What? She told me while we were talking about her dolls and our tea party.”
I nodded and he came over to join us. “Did you do any recon?” He snorted. “What would you call it? Super sneaky Winter Soldier ninja snooping?”
Shaking his head, he kissed me again. “I did.” He sighed. “Sam, Chris, Carrie, Connie, and Sharon.” I knew my eyes were wide enough to be in threat of falling out of my head, but for fuck’s sake. “Come on, Bryn,” he held out his arms and she hopped up and jumped into them. “Let’s go downstairs and see if we can get some breakfast ready for Brooke while she gets ready for the day.”
I contemplated staying in bed. Our house had been invaded - and while I’d sworn that I’d answer my phone and door, I hadn’t been given the OPTION of answering - they’d just barged right the fuck in. Giving myself about five minutes to stew and wallow, I finally rolled out of bed and grabbed some clothes to toss on. A stop in the bathroom to brush my hair and my teeth and then downstairs to meet the invaders.
They were in the kitchen - ALL of them. Gathered around the table and island, watching as Bucky worked on another omelet - omelets I corrected as I came in and moved closer to him. Sam was drinking coffee, and I almost asked where he’d gotten it since he was drinking out of one of my mugs, but then I noticed that someone had started up my parents’ coffee maker. I hadn’t tossed it out, of course I also didn’t buy coffee for it - Connie shook her head and nodded toward the bags of groceries that she’d clearly put away before we woke up.
“Morning,” I greeted our guests, “everyone.” Started strong, but the landing left something to be desired. “To what do we owe this -”
“Well,” Connie came over and wrapped her arm around my neck. “I knew that you probably hadn’t had a chance to go shopping for groceries since you got back.” Whispering very quietly in my ear that she knew exactly WHY I hadn’t and she APPROVED of why. “I thought I’d do a run while Bryn and I were out -”
“We saw how much she grabbed and -” Chris volunteered, grins growing. Such good samaritans and great friends. “We couldn’t let her struggle. She had her own stuff, yours, AND Bryn.”
Carried piped up, “we stopped by her house and dropped hers off first. When we got here, Sam had just arrived.” She was beaming - and why not? She just met the new Captain America, after all.
“Since I have a key for emergencies,” Connie finished the tale with a shrug.
I nodded. “You have a key for emergencies and groceries are an emergency.” Bucky’s shoulders were shaking, and I knew he was enjoying this shit immensely. “And letting Captain America in - I mean, I’m sure he made it sound like it was an emergency.”
Sam was taking a drink when I said it and he snorted, spewing coffee just a bit. “Don’t make it sound like I was being all sneaky or something, Brooke.” He sputtered.
I raised an eyebrow and reached for one of my tea towels. Tossing it to him, I waited while he cleaned up. “It’s broad daylight, I highly doubt you were being sneaky, Sam.” He nodded. “So?”
“So?” Confusion glowed on his face.
“The reason for your visit?”
“Ah,” I shook my head as realization dawned on his face. “Sarah -” shit the print, but he went on. “She and I wanted to invite you and Bucky to a celebration back home.”
They were planning on a huge party in Delacroix - and for good reason - hometown boy makes VERY good. And now that they weren’t selling the boat, or house, I could see why they’d want to have a party. Bucky glanced at me over his shoulder, wanting my input on whether we should go or not, but in this instance the ball was in his court.
“Yeah,” Bucky agreed, plating our breakfast - for all eight of us - and lining them up on the island for us to carry into the dining room. “We’ll drive down.”
“Drive?” Sam was curious, carrying his plate and refilled cup of coffee into the dining room. “Renting a car instead of flying?”
We settled around the table and I shook my head when Bucky moved to sit at one of the sides. “Head, Bucky.” His eyes went wide, but I stood firm. OUR house, and he was the man of it. Everyone waited to tuck in until he sat, and then I took my seat. “Yes, drive, Sam.” I smiled across the table at Bucky, who was staring at me like he was amazed by me again. “We like to take our time - Bucky and me.” That got a few chuckles, but then everyone took a bite of their food and suddenly no one was laughing - because once again they were surprised by Bucky Barnes.
Our guests didn’t stay too long. Bryn understood that it wasn’t the day for our tea party, since she hadn’t brought along any princesses for it. I watched as Bucky got down on his knee to have a long conversation with her - privately, they told the rest of us, and I smiled when she hugged him tight at the end of it.
“I think Bucky has a fan,” Sam was beside me, watching Bryn with Bucky. “Seeing him like this -”
I felt my smile growing. I loved hearing anyone’s tone change to reflect them seeing him in a new light. “You think this is the Bucky that Steve knew, don’t you?” He hummed an affirmative. “It is,” I bit my lip as Buck turned, his gaze meeting mine. “He’s always been there, Sam. Just took him a little longer to surface than he expected.” Bucky came closer to include me in Bryn’s goodbye hug, and got me to promise her that sleepover too, despite my misgivings. A kiss to her soft cheek and she was handed off to Connie.
“We’ll let you two get back to -” I rolled my eyes as Connie waggled her eyes in her attempt at being suggestive. “Bye, Brookie.” She was grinning when she gave Bucky his own parting, then Chris and Carrie gave us a less gregarious, but no less friendly goodbye, leaving just Sharon and Sam behind.
“And then there were two,” I murmured, getting a chuckle from Bucky, coupled with a soft sigh.
“I heard that,” Sam offered, carrying a stack of dirty dishes to the kitchen and shooting Sharon a dirty look when she hissed while she tried to grab some to help. “Sit your wounded ass down.”
She glared at him, but with a hand on her side, complied. “Hey,” I got her attention and tilted my head toward the hall bathroom. “Want me to have a peek at your bandage?”
“Do you have -” she bit her lip, and I nearly laughed at her conundrum. Does she insult me by asking if I have first aid experience after I gave her clothing and a roof over her head or does she humor me?
“I took some classes,” I assured her. “My parents liked to make sure all the bases were covered.” Helping her carefully to her feet, I got her to the bathroom where one of the many family first aid kits lived. Opening it up and setting it on the countertop, I saw her eyes widen. “I told you - my parents liked to keep the bases covered.” Our first aid kits weren’t something you bought at a local pharmacy or online. “Mom was an RN,” I gestured for her to take her place on the toilet seat again. “She made sure to keep me up to date on my safety classes.” Every CPR class, first aid requirement, and anything else she imagined a layperson might need - she signed me up for. I helped Sharon with the loose shirt Bucky had grabbed out of my drawer, and smiled at the wrapping the ER had put on her wound. “Good news,” I bent down and took a closer look. “You haven’t started bleeding through the packing and wraps, so I don’t have to rewrap you.” She sighed and I chuckled. “Damn it,” I glanced up to see her looking down at me wearily. “I kind of hoped to use you for practice.”
She shook her head and a tiny smile threatened to creep onto her lips. “It hurts like hell though.” She started to pull the shirt back into place. “Gonna make getting back on the road a trial,” I was just opening my mouth to tell her she didn’t have to rush when she stopped me. “Thank you, Brooke, for your and Bucky’s generosity and hospitality, but trust me, I should go - and soon.”
I nodded, standing up to help her to her feet. She was taller than me, just like every other person in my life. “Take my number,” I watched as she pulled a phone from her pocket and I rattled off the number while she tapped it into the contacts. “If you need me or us -”
“Thank you,” she smiled, a small one, but I thought it might be genuine. “Steve would have liked you.”
“So I’ve heard,” I shook my head and put the first aid kit away. “Do you need another change of clothes?” Sharon wouldn’t hear of taking more from me, and insisted that she had a car coming to take her away. “If you’re sure -”
“I am.” We left the bathroom to the sounds of Bucky and Sam in the kitchen, soft music not hiding the sounds of them bickering over how to fill the dishwasher. “You’re going to have your hands full.”
“Yeah, I do,” I agreed, shaking my head as I listened to the two of them, their back and forth, and thinking that they sounded more and more like brothers. “I think they’re getting more -”
“Partners,” Sharon nodded. “They’re a team now.”
“Scary.” I heard a soft knock on the door and Bucky’s head appeared in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room. “I think -”
“It’s for me,” Sharon offered, hand back on her wound. “Time for me to go.”
“You sure?” It was Sam who asked, coming up on Bucky’s left, arms crossed over his chest. “You could stay, I could always -”
“I think you’re making enough waves, Cap.” I bit my lip at Sharon using the nickname so soon. “I can wait for my pardon.” She was moving toward the living room, with me behind her in case she stumbled. “I’ll just grab my small pile of stuff and be out of your way.” She grabbed her clothes - the ones she’d changed out of and turned to find me waiting at a close distance. “Hovering? That’s a very Steve Rogers trait, Brooke.” I rolled my eyes. “I’ll be fine,” she assured me, moving her hand from the bandaged side and sighing. “Keep those two out of trouble.”
“Yeah, right.” I muttered, opening my arms, thinking what the hell - a hug was warranted. She allowed it, awkward though it was. “Stay safe, Sharon.”
“I’ll try.” She murmured. “You too, ok?”
I nodded and then she pulled away. I busied myself with the living room while she said her goodbyes to Sam and Bucky, thinking that less was more in the case of Sharon Carter leaving our house. I had just folded up the blanket and put it with the pillow when I heard the front door open and close.
“And then there was one,” Bucky murmured, wrapping his arms around me. “What do you think the chances are that Sam goes home to prepare for the celebration and lets us follow behind?”
“Slim and none,” Sam offered, leaning against the archway between the living room and the entryway. “Sarah doesn’t need me to plan a party, and I have a couple loose ends to tie up here in NYC, so -”
“Don’t put away the blanket and pillow, Brooke,” Bucky kissed my cheek. “The couch has a new guest.”
