I. Where is your Warrior of Light from? What was their home like growing up and what set them out on their journey? (source)

Corisande grew up in a secluded village in the Golmore Jungle, where their mother fled with them after Garlean forces invaded Valnain. The village did not typically allow outsiders in but made an exception for them after a Wood-warder vouched for them--he'd been good friends with their father, who'd been killed by Imperials before he could flee.

They lived in a small house on the outskirts of the village, and were largely treated as strange outsiders by most (but not all!). Despite the unkind treatment Corisande received, they enjoyed growing up in a forest, surrounded by nature. Though it was a rather lonely childhood, she occupied herself with roaming the forest, gathering herbs and flowers, and teaching herself as much as she could about arcanum and summoning as well as the world outside her village, which she desperately longed to see. She was often found in the company of the pink chocobo she had rescued and the Carbuncle she'd taught herself to summon.

Despite how Corisande longed to see the world, they were reluctant to leave their mother behind knowing they would not be allowed to come back. But their mother knew Corisande could not be truly happy if they were not allowed to travel, and she asked them to leave, to see the world and pursue their studies. It took quite a bit of convincing, but eventually they left their village behind and set off for the Arcanist's Guild.

#I got halfway through Authority and it's honestly pretty baller. I think the protagonist will connect less with most people but #It still has that juicy juicy deranged Annihilation flavor. Oh your family was fucked up and that's why you can understand The Horrors #I want to carry the author over the threshold bridal style or something.#Also I got halfway through 'Foundations' which was written by a physicist noble prize winner with grossly inflated sense of ego who #was trying to make a religion out of Abductive Reasoning while barely knowing how Abductive Reasoning works. All his social takes #were fascinatingly bad (not wrong to be clear; just bad examples no solid logic) and he also clearly gave the halflife of C14 #and proceeded to say that we used it for figuring out Neanderthals were in Europe a few hundred thousand years ago.#I swear to god physicists should have emotional support geologists they can consult on the phone whenever they're feeling #a bit spicy about psychology and philosophy and it would save the world half a dozen bad takes.#His physics and 'layman' outline of how the physical world works though was really good. I quite liked that though. I would've #finished the book except it's my brother's and it's not good enough I would steal it. Except that fucker bought #THE ALTERATION OF ECONOMIC GEOLOGY and for HIMSELF not ME and that I might yoink lol.#Anyway COOL I AM BACK IN MY OWN BED I CAN RESPOND TO SOME EMAILS AND TRY TO AIM FOR CHAPT 34 #I hope everyone had a really good Christmas! <3 #ptxt

#floer homology #math #maths #mathblr #you really should have at least one Floer homology theory you like!!#i have for a while wanted to do a longpost about floer homology #a very cool concept that shouldn't yield anything but miraculously does #and also about the guy who came up with it (andreas floer)#who was a very interesting guy #he died in 1991 at age 34 which is usually when an academic is only starting to build their influence #and thus didn't have any phd students #and most people in the math community don't seem to have known him personally #(his wikipedia page has a section of quotes about him but they're all about his math #which is pretty much universally agreed to be one of the most striking developments of modern mathematics)#but one time they did a memorial conference a couple years ago in his honour at (uc) berkeley #where they talked about the extremely fruitful field of research he pioneered #they put up posters around campus advertising the conference that happened to have a picture of him #and apparently a bunch of old guys showed up who knew nothing about math #it turned out they were his housemates in the gay commune he used to live in #who were going for a walk around campus and saw a poster with his photo and were like #'wait isn't that our buddy who died twenty-some years ago??'#apparently they knew nothing about math so it was totally incomprehensible to them but they attended the whole conference anyway
