The Disability Library
I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!
As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!
Edit 20/10/2023: You can now suggest books using the google form at the bottom!

Jikook Week 47 Complete (29/10-05/11/2024)
Their 47th week in the military is now complete and we celebrate with a look back at this week in 2017.
Tumblr media
It was a very special week for Jimin and Jungkook marking their first trip together. They went to Tokyo between 28/10 and 31/10 on a trip that JK organised as a birthday present for Jimin, a trip that they are still talking about seven years later.
"We were walking down an alley, there weren't many cars, there was the light from the street lamps.... It was really beautiful. And then Jimin said that his feet hurt and so we walked slowly. These simple things were so fun" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"We went around wearing masks from the move Scream with black fabric covering our bodies, and black umbrellas. When people came over, we took picture, it was fun. We went around people watching, and when we went to the restaurant, we took off our masks and ate" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They wandered the streets, went shopping, ate good food and visited Disneyland before returning to Korea on the 31/10.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first Golden Closet Film came out about a week later on 08/11 much to JK's delight as its talented creator and Jimin as its star.
youtube
No one before or since has shown Jimin quite like JK does here. He is completely open, relaxed and joyful. He beams at JK behind the lens. This is what it must feel like to be in Jimin's inner circle and have his complete trust. It is a Jimin that we don't really see anymore, although perhaps, in Are You Sure? we caught glimpses of that guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On 31/10, Jimin posted this photo of them looking relaxed and happy with an emoji caption. The trip seems to have done them a lot of good and brought them even closer.
😊💐
Tumblr media
The trip took place during a break in the Wings tour between the Taiwan concerts on the 21-22/10 and the Macau concert on 04/11. If you want to know how crazy this time was for them and how hard they were working nothing can demonstrate that more clearly than the Burn the Stage series and in this case Episode 8 which shows the October and November leg of the tour and its final concert in Seoul on 10th December 2017.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is in this episode that Taehyung asks us to love all seven of the members of BTS which seems worth repeating at this moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Watching their 2017 selves talking about what they learnt about each other and about themselves during the Wings Tour made me nostalgic for a time when I wasn't even in the fandom and hopeful for the future that they deserve, pursuing the next steps of their musical journey together as a group. Just over seven months to go before that future can become a reality and all we need to do until then is hold it together, ensure we put out our share of positivity to balance the incessant toxicity of SM and TRUST IN BTS.

it's trans+ history week, so i finally have an opportunity to make a detailed post about maverique history.
so here it is:
a detailed timeline of maverique history.
31/05/2014 — @queerascat coined maverique as "a non-binary gender characterized by an unconventional and unothodox internal sense of self and the interrelationship between that sense of self and society"
15/06/2014 — queerascat reworded the definition as: "a non-binary gender characterized by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of gender which is unorthodox, unconventional and entirely independent of conventional concepts of gender". they created the maverique flag on the same day.
18/06/2014 — tearun suggested maver as an equivalent to man/woman and rique as an equivalent for boy/girl, the latter was never heard of again due to it sounding like "reek"
19/06/2014 — someone suggested mav as an equivalent to boy/girl, @whatdoesenbymean suggested Mv (pronounced "mav") as a title
21/06/2014 — after some confusion, queerascat reworded the definition one last time as "a gender characterized by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of self that is entirely independent of male/masculinity, female/femininity or anything which derives from the two while still being neither without gender nor of a neutral gender"
22/06/2014 — the @maveriques blog was created
24/06/2014 — maveriques posted a CMYK analogy to explain maverique
28/06/2014 — maveriques posted a list of proposed maverique terms
29/06/2014 — someone suggested Mv (pronounced "miv") as a title
06/07/2014 — queerascat uploaded a video about their label change and the term maverique in their youtube channel
12/03/2015 — maveriques clearly defined maverique as not an umbrella term
11/10/2015 — queerascat posted a gender tag video from a maverique perspective on their youtube channel
13/10/2015 — someone suggested maveriquine as an equivalent for masculine/feminine
~2015/16 — there was discourse on aliagender and aporagender being racist, and that maverique was a good term to use instead because it was coined by a Black person, queerascat pushed back against this
31/07/2016 — maverine was suggested as an equivalent to masculine/feminine
18/11/2016 — @moonstruck-melts suggested the earth and sun symbols for maverique, and @feekins suggested pluto as a symbol
03/02/2017 — @the-christian-closet suggested the comet symbol for maverique, mistaking it for an alternative sun symbol
05/02/2017 — maveriques posted a poll asking how people feel about the sun as a maverique symbol
12/02/2017 — maveriques posted the results, with most maveriques liking it but having reservations
24/02/2017 — courage-archive-deactivated2018 / sneer posted the symbol with the two extending arms
17/07/2017 — veriquinity was suggested as an equivalent to masculine/feminine
~2021: the maverique subreddit was created
06/01/2022 — renée yoxon went on the fifty shades of gender podcast to talk about being maverique, trans, nonbinary and genderqueer
06/2022 — reddit user ChaoticStrange suggested a maverique visibility day on 31/05 and others agreed
16/01/2023 — renée yoxon briefly spoke about being maverique on the gender reveal podcast
18/06/2023 — @themaveriqueagenda on tumblr was born
20/08/2023 — themaveriqueagenda on instagram was born

2011-08-31:
Mailchimp Acquires TinyLetter We’ve acquired TinyLetter. For those of you who don’t know, TinyLetter is a beautifully simple email newsletter app created by Philip Kaplan and launched late last year. We’re pretty excited about this. Sure, we think TinyLetter fills a gap in the MailChimp offering and all that, but more importantly, we think it has the potential to fill a significant gap we’ve seen growing in the social conversation. … We’re trying really hard not to make things disruptive for existing TinyLetter users.
Tumblr media
2017-12-11:
MailChimp to Phase Out Its Popular TinyLetter Email Service But now TinyLetter's days as a standalone entity are numbered, [Mailchimp Co-founder and CEO Ben] Chestnut told me in October. When I met with him in Atlanta and mentioned my newsletter plans, Chestnut advised me to stick to a basic MailChimp template instead of a TinyLetter, to avoid any potential headaches when MailChimp swallows up TinyLetter.
Tumblr media
2018-01-05:
MailChimp’s CEO clarifies: TinyLetter won’t shut down this year "We have no plans to make changes to TinyLetter in 2018. And we’ll let you know what to expect before we make any changes in the future. In the long term, we do intend to integrate TinyLetter into MailChimp. Doing this will better enable us to support the product and its users. But we’re taking it slow because we want to get it right."
Tumblr media
2023-11-29:
Since then, our business priorities have evolved, and we've been laser focused on building tools to serve marketers and help small businesses grow. The TinyLetter community's needs have changed too, with some customers moving to Mailchimp to scale and monetize their newsletters, and some moving to alternative services that cater specifically to writers. With all of that in mind, we've made the decision to close TinyLetter and focus on our core Mailchimp product. On February 29, 2024, we will officially sunset the product and you'll no longer be able to access your TinyLetter account or letter archive. You'll still be able to log in and access your account until February 29. We know you worked hard to build your audience, so we strongly encourage you to log in before February 29 to export your subscriber list.

We can't wait for you to hear it and feel the energy we've poured into every track. Welcome to the 'Blood Dynasty'!"
"Blood Dynasty" track listing:

"Dream Stealer" marked ARCH ENEMY's first new music since the release of the "Deceivers" album, which came out in August 2022.
"Dream Stealer" was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The video was directed and produced by Patric Ullaeus.
Two months ago, Amott told Pulp Magazine about "Dream Stealer" and ARCH ENEMY's plans for new music: "We've been staying busy for sure and are really focused on writing and recording new stuff in between the touring we're doing. I'm kind of always coming up with new musical and lyrical ideas though — I just keep going as it's what I enjoy doing anyway. Making music is a natural process, and it's pretty much a daily thing, so it can be hard to pinpoint exactly when everything was conceived. I do, however, actually remember that the initial seed for 'Dream Stealer' was written during a songwriting session I did with Daniel [Erlandsson, drums] in Los Angeles, California, two years ago, and then it's been rearranged and updated a lot till it reached its final state that you're now hearing."
Asked if it was a conscious decision to go back to the "classic ARCH ENEMY" direction and approach with "Dream Stealer", Amott said: "I've seen some seriously great feedback from the fans, and that's always very encouraging, of course. Personally, I don't know if I’d necessarily say 'Dream Stealer' is a throwback to the sound of the past, but I get what they mean — the song has the energy and speed that is very exciting and infectious. Maybe there is a hint of vintage ARCH ENEMY in there, and why not? I'm looking forward to playing it live on stage — I think it is going to be intense as hell."
In October, ARCH ENEMY will embark on the "Rising From The North" co-headline tour with Swedish melodic death metal pioneers IN FLAMES, as well as special guests SOILWORK, before they head over to Mexico for another extensive headline run.
ARCH ENEMY played its first concert with new guitarist Joey Concepcion on April 24 at Musinsa Garage in Seoul, South Korea. The show was part of ARCH ENEMY's 2024 Asian tour.
Last December, ARCH ENEMY announced that it had "amicably" parted ways with longtime guitarist Jeff Loomis.
Jeff, who was the main songwriter in his previous group, NEVERMORE, joined ARCH ENEMY in late 2014, but was not involved in the writing for the latter act's last two albums, 2017's "Will To Power" and the aforementioned "Deceivers".
ARCH ENEMY is:

Singing in a choral ft. Suguru Geto
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 08 of 31 Days of Ficmas!
summary — In a world filled with curses and tragedies, Suguru Geto hears the most beautiful voice of his damned life when he least expected to.
word count — 629
content — angst, guilt, no comfort, i’m sorry
notes — ok, i think geto’s guilt pos-hidden inventory arc was never explored and it’s NOT POSSIBLE he didn’t feel guilt, man. he killed his PARENTS and it’s NOT ADDRESSED FURTHER OMG. anyway so that’s my own character’s psychology interpretation!
Tumblr media
Suguru Geto didn’t like to walk among humans.
Not only because they disgusted him, but because it would remind him of the times they didn’t.
And that… that was the worst part.
Blending in, seeing all the people he would eventually murder – even though they weren’t monsters.
But he’d rather know, he’d rather know whose life he was taking.
Humans, humans.
Monkeys.
He had a purpose, he’d do everything to achieve it.
He killed his own parents, he gave up on everything to try to save the life of his fellow Jujutsu Sorcerers. His friends, his family.
Even though it was an impossible dream, he tried. He was trying. Day after day after day.
He shouldn’t let guilt take place in his heart.
And yet…
He walked in those streets, hearing conversations and laughter coming from humans that weren’t so bad, after all. He walked and saw that not only hate existed, but happiness and love.
He was a hypocrite. But what could he do? He had to make a choice, and he did.
But nobody seemed to understand how hard of a choice it was.
Suguru Geto was about to leave, sorrow having filled him completely when he heard something that made him suddenly stop.
“May your days be merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be bright…”
A voice.
So beautiful and melodic that he felt the need to turn his head to catch a glimpse of its owner.
“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know…”
You’re dressed in white, so different from his all-black outfit, and the words you sang were like a punch in his gut.
He suddenly remembered it was December 23rd, and that he would never have Christmases like the ones he used to know from when he was a teenager.
In the middle of the crowd, he succumbed to his guilt.
He felt the tears falling and all the things he would never be able to say stuck in his throat, and still, he still hated all those monkeys for making him go through that.
While hating himself for thinking that while admiring you – it was so paradoxical.
The rest of the coral disappeared behind you, the main voice, and he watched as you sang – and wished for a white Christmas.
His would be red.
When the choral ended and the crowd dissipated, Suguru stood there. He was aware he looked like a lunatic, but still…
“Hey, are you ok?”
It almost scared him.
He looked up to see you, looking at him with a concerned expression, “Sorry… I noticed you seemed upset about something while we were singing. I just wanted to check,” you opened a soft smile and it pained him more.
“Oh, don’t worry about me. The song just made me emotional,” Geto smiled back – the smile he had mastered.
“Oh, ok. Good to know,” still didn’t seem like you believed him. “In any case, I just want to wish you a good night. And a good life. You seem like you deserve it.”
Suguru just looked at you. He couldn’t say anything – even if he tried.
What could he say? Thank you?
“Well… good night, then. Maybe we will also see each other tomorrow!”, you said at last, waving goodbye while distancing yourself.
“Hey!”
He yelled before he could even think about it. You looked back at him, confused.
“Don’t come here tomorrow. Stay out of Shinjuku and Kyoto,” Suguru Geto asked you. “Please.”
You couldn’t muster the reason why, but you just nodded to him before parting ways.
He watched as you left knowing that was the last good thing he would ever do.
Because the next day, December 24th, 2017, was the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.

Three Hit Disney Shows Are Ending
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above: the final casts of Bunk'd, Raven's Home, and Secrets of Sulphur Springs.
by spaceotter42
Disney Channel's two longest running shows, "Raven's Home" and "Bunk'd," have been canceled, and a third popular show, "Secrets of Sulphur Springs," will also not return.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bunk'd will air its final two episodes this Friday, August 2, 2024. The series was a spin-off of "Jessie," where three of the Ross kids went off to summer camp. The Ross kids' actors were written off the show after three seasons, but the storylines kept going using new, younger kids visiting the camp.
The only actor who appeared throughout the entire series was Miranda May, who played camp counselor Lou Hockhauser, eventually the owner of the camp, and May herself became an executive producer of the show. Camp Kikiwaka became the Kikiwaka Ranch as it morphed into a western theme in its sixth season, and the show gained a new subtitle: "Bunk'd: Learning the Ropes."
Bunk'd ran longer than any other Disney Channel live action show, 7 seasons, 162 episodes, and nine years, having premiered July 31, 2015. A highlight of the series depicted a gay marriage proposal in season six.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Raven-Symoné starring sitcom "Raven's Home" was a revival of her earlier teen show "That's So Raven" which ran for four seasons from Jan. 17, 2003 to Nov. 10, 2007. Raven's Home, which now depicted her character Raven Baxter as a divorced adult with two teen children of her own, lasted even longer, for six seasons from July 21, 2017 to Sept. 3, 2023.
Among its ground-breaking storylines were an anti-vaping episode and a recurring trans character. Although Raven herself will be gone, her show will spin off another sequel focusing on Raven Baxter's young cousin Alice, again played by Mykal-Michelle Harris, as she was in Raven's Home.
Raven-Symoné will executive produce and direct the spinoff, "Alice in the Palace," which will have Alice move to England and interact with her doppelganger, Duchess Clementine. It's a sort of "Prince & The Pauper" sitcom, where the two will pretend to be each other.
A previous Raven spin-off, "Cory In The House," aired for two seasons in 2007-08. It featured Raven's dad serving as a chef in the White House, and showcased the antics of her brother Cory.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The third ending series, "Secrets of Sulphur Springs," didn't run as long as the other two, but it was still popular. It ran for three seasons from Jan. 15, 2021 to March 24, 2023.
It was not a sitcom but an adventure/mystery show involving science fiction (time travel) and supernatural elements. Well-written and well-acted, it will be missed for its innovative approach to fictional and realistic problems. It featured an interracial teen romance and a strong anti-racism message.
The series starred teen actors Preston Oliver as Griffin Campbell and Kyliegh Curran as Harper Dunn.
The series sadly ended with a cliffhanger that was never resolved. Teens Griffin and Harper were visited by their son Nick from the future in an episode appropriately titled, "Nick of Time."
Writers note: I will miss all three of these shows. They weren't perfect but still harkened back to Disney's old style of entertainment with some relevant new topics included. Will newer shows be as good? Time will tell.

It was a much quieter month on the writing front. I managed 43,000 words by some miracle, across a bunch of different stories.
A reminder that enrolment into the Merch Tier to get the May/June rewards is still valid until mid February!
*
On the writing side, I wrote across multiple stories: Palmarosa, Constellations, Underline the Black, and Underline the Blue.
*
I had to step back on posting for my own health/sanity. And I'm taking the first two weeks of January off from posting chapters. I'll still be writing, but in between raising a puppy and also just general burnout, I'm still putting some mega health-preservation in place so I don't get really sick.
You will mostly notice this in the form of one Underline the Black chapter not going up each month, to give me a Sunday-to-Sunday stretch with no chapter updates. I will still be active and around! These aren't holidays from writing or interacting with you all, just from the schedule itself. :D
*
For those who remember the Merchantverse novel Tradewinds, this is coming in book / e-book form to Patreon and Ream only in the Gary+Efnisien Tier or higher. It is a completed Fae Tales Verse story, that focuses on merchant fae in the southern hemisphere, and Seelie vs. Unseelie merchant traders. This will come in January 2024.
*
I'll see you all in January 2024! Which is in one hour! Thanks so much for making this year incredible! :D

Welcome to the Shadow of the Eclipse
October 4-31, 2023
Some introductory notes
The “shadow of the eclipse” is a time period lasting from 10 days before the first eclipse, to three days after the final eclipse. It is recommended not to start anything new, or schedule anything important, during these days - as usual I refer everyone to the 1981 wedding of Lady Diana Spencer to the Prince of Wales, as an example.
Of course we live in a place/time which scoffs at letting astrology help with the timing of events - therefore don’t lose hope if something falls unavoidably within the eclipse shadow. Just be prepared.
I wanted to take a more thorough approach to delineation, this time. I hope it’s helpful.
South Node Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse happens when the New Moon lies close (in the Zodiac) to either the North Lunar Node, or to the South one. It occurred to me to do a little research on whether which Node is involved, makes any difference - and yes, it does.
Astrologers call the South Node “the dragon’s tail” - Steven Forrest calls the South Node, “the dragon’s butt” - because here we are “pooping out” what we don’t need and can’t use. (One person’s poop, however, is another person’s fertilizer.)
Eclipses conjunct the South Lunar Node, like the October 14 one, have an outflowing (outpooping?) of energy. They tend to feature external events which we have to “rise up to.”
If you’d like to note how these have affected you in the past (always a good idea to check “what happened last time”), here is a list of the previous South Node solar eclipses in this century:
December 14, 2001, 22°56’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2002, 11°58’ Sagittarius
November 23, 2003, 1°14’ Sagittarius
October 14, 2004, 21°06’ Libra
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
September 22, 2006, 29°20’ Virgo
September 11, 2007, 18°25’ Virgo
August 1, 2008, 9°32’ Leo
July 22, 2009, 29°27’ Cancer
July 11, 2010, 19°24’ Cancer
June 1, 2011, 11°02’ Gemini
July 1, 2011, 9°12’ Cancer
May 20, 2012, 0°21’ Gemini
May 10, 2013, 19°31’ Taurus
April 29, 2014, 8°52’ Taurus
March 20, 2015, 29°27’ Pisces
March 9, 2016, 18°56’ Pisces
February 26, 2017, 8°12’ Pisces
February 15, 2018, 27°08’ Aquarius
January 6, 2019, 15°25’ Capricorn
December 26, 2019, 4°07’ Capricorn
December 14, 2020, 23°08’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2021, 12°22’ Sagittarius
October 25, 2022, 2°00’ Scorpio
October 14, 2023, 21°08’ Libra
Going down that list was a very uncomfortable trip down memory lane for me. When those South Node eclipses affected me, it was generally a harbinger of some difficult “external event” which I had little to no control over - which is not the same thing as saying “it wasn’t my fault.” I brought some of it on myself due to bad decisions. Some karma chickens coming home to roost, in other words. Not all of them were dire, though. One in particular gave me something of a respite from what had been happening in my life - it was conjunct my natal 12th House cusp.
Saros Series “7 South”
This eclipse is part of Saros Series “7 South.” Bernadette Brady writes,
The individual experiencing this series will find that huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through his or her life very rapidly. Either way the individual will feel that everything is moving at great speed. (The Eagle and the Lark)
Previous Saros “7 South” eclipses in Ms M’s lifetime:
September 11, 1969, 18°53’ Virgo
September 23, 1987, 29°34’ Virgo
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
Not quite as depressing for me personally.
Whatever Shall We Do?
1) Determine which of your natal houses this eclipse falls in.
2) Determine whether the eclipse makes an aspect to anything in your chart. Use a 1° orb. In my case, the conjunctions, squares, sesquiquads (135°), inconjuncts, and oppositions made the most obvious impacts.
3) If there is a close aspect to a planet, check to see which house(s) that planet rules. One South Node eclipse was conjunct the ruler of my natal 4th House, and I moved three months later.
4) Avoid strenuously negative thoughts. If you put a lot of energy into anticipating that something is going to be horrible and painful and disastrous, well, guess what - that’s exactly what’s going to happen. If you catch yourself falling into a panic, try to refocus the energy into “the best possible outcome.”

What is being ignored by the mainstream media are the dangers facing the global economy
Dec 03, 2024
On the economic front, it is more of the same, but just a different day.
The U.S. equities keep riding high following the re-election of Donald Trump.
While there are fears that his tariff policies will have negative effects on the economy, at this point, it is a guessing game.
The same with his plans to cut taxes. Will the richest Americans reap the biggest rewards like his last cuts in 2017, or will We the People of Slavelandia get a cut?
What is being ignored by the mainstream media are the dangers facing the global economy.
Economies were artificially propped up with trillions of dollars in fake money backed by nothing and printed on nothing, plus negative and zero interest rate policies, are now suffering from the draconian COVID lockdown policies imposed by politicians that destroyed the lives and livelihoods of billions of people across the planet.
We continue to report on the looming Office Building Bust that will cause Banks to Go Bust.
Need more proof?
The recent four-week office occupancy rate of the largest 10 cities in the U.S. was, according to Kastle Systems, down to 40.6 percent. Much of the decline was a result of the Thanksgiving holiday, but overall, for the year, the average is around 50 percent, while the vacancy rate, meaning empty office buildings, is at around 20 percent.
As of last week, the delinquency rates on commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) was at 10.4 percent, up one percent in November, hitting its fastest spike in two years... the depth of the COVID War lockdowns.
According to Trepp data, the current CMBS delinquency rate is just .3 percent below the 10.7 percent spike during the Panic of ’08 Great Recession.
Illustrating the danger ahead, but again banned by the mainstream media, was the 31 October 2024 article in Wall Street on Parade, New York Fed Report: 27 Percent of Bank Capital Is “Extend and Pretend” Commercial Real Estate Loans... which in part states the dire office building crisis as a result of the vacancy rates and how it is being covered up.
They quote a paper written by Matteo Crosignani, financial research advisor at the New York Fed, and Saketh Prazad, a former research analyst at the New York Fed who is now a doctoral student in the Business Economics program at the Harvard Business School who wrote:
“In this paper, using detailed supervisory data, we document that banks have ‘extended-and-pretended’ their distressed CRE mortgages in the post-pandemic period to delay the recognition of losses. Banks with weaker marked-to-market capital—largely due to losses in their securities portfolio since 2022:Q1—have extended the maturity of their impaired CRE mortgages coming due and pretended that such credit provision was not as distressed to avoid further depleting their capital. The resulting limited number of loan defaults hindered the reallocation of capital, crowding out the origination of both CRE mortgages and loans to firms. The maturity extensions granted by banks also fueled the volume of CRE mortgages set to mature in the near term—a ‘maturity wall’ with the associated risk of large losses materializing in a short period of time.”
One of the scariest potential outcomes referenced by the authors is their so-called “maturity wall” when the debt bombs come due and losses pile up suddenly. The authors write this:
“…we document that banks’ extend-and-pretend has led to an ever-expanding ‘maturity wall’, namely a rapidly increasing volume of CRE loans set to mature in the near term. As of 2023:Q4, CRE mortgages coming due within three years represent 27% of bank marked-to-market capital, up 11 percentage points from 2020:Q4—and CRE mortgages coming due within five years represent 40% of bank marked-to-market capital. We show (i) that weakly capitalized banks drive this expansion, consistent with their extend-and-pretend behavior, and (ii) that the maturity wall represents a sizable 16% of the aggregate CRE debt held by the banking sector as of 2023:Q4.
“Taken together, our results highlight the costs of banks’ extend-and-pretend behavior. In the short term, the resulting credit misallocation might slow down the capital reallocation needed to sustain the transition of real estate markets to the post-pandemic equilibrium—for example supporting the conversion of office space into residential units and recreational spaces in large urban areas. In the medium term, the delayed recognition of losses exposes banks (and all other holders of CRE debt) to sudden large losses which can be exacerbated by fire sales dynamics and bankruptcy courts congestion.”
Further illustrating the reality of the looming CMBS debt bomb, today Wall Street on Parade noted that:
“Life insurers continued to allocate a substantial percentage of assets to risky and less liquid instruments, such as leveraged loans, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), high-yield corporate bonds, privately placed corporate bonds, and alternative investments. Moreover, life insurance companies have material direct exposures to commercial mortgages and are large holders of commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS). This exposure to illiquid and risky assets makes life insurers vulnerable to an array of adverse shocks, including that of an economic downturn or of a significant further deterioration of the CRE [commercial real estate] market.”
TREND FORECAST: Yes, the significant further deterioration of the CRE [commercial real estate] market,” that so few are talking about... a mega trend we warned about when we had forecast the Office Building Bust and its socioeconomic implications.

Watch: ARCH ENEMY Performs New Song 'Liars & Thieves' Live For First Time
Tumblr media
Swedish/Canadian/American extreme metal titans ARCH ENEMY played a brand new song, "Liars & Thieves" live for the first time at the opening show of their European tour on October 3 at the O2 Academy in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Fan-filmed video of the performance is available below.
"Liars & Thieves" is taken from ARCH ENEMY's twelfth studio album, "Blood Dynasty", which will arrive on March 28, 2025 via Century Media Records.
The first single from "Blood Dynasty", a song called "Dream Stealer", arrived on July 31.
ARCH ENEMY founder and guitarist Michael Amott commented: "This new album pushes the boundaries of what we've done before — it's everything you've come to expect from this band, and then some! We can't wait for you to hear it and feel the energy we've poured into every track. Welcome to the 'Blood Dynasty'!"
"Blood Dynasty" track listing:
01. Dream Stealer 02. Illuminate the Path 03. March Of the Miscreants 04. A Million Suns 05. Don't Look Down 06. Presage 07. Blood Dynasty 08. Paper Tiger 09. Vivre Libre 10. The Pendulum 11. Liars & Thieves
Next to the limited deluxe editions that feature two exclusive bonus tracks, fans can direct their attention to the limited liquid blood vinyl that is exclusively available in the band stores and limited to 666 copies.
ARCH ENEMY is currently taking part in the "Rising From The North" co-headline tour with Swedish melodic death metal pioneers IN FLAMES, as well as special guests SOILWORK, before they head over to Mexico for another extensive headline run.
Alissa White-Gluz - Vocals Michael Amott - Guitar Joey Concepcion - Guitar Sharlee D'Angelo - Bass Daniel Erlandsson - Drums
