I work at a delivery company as a dispatcher. Basically it means I assign out orders, add compensation as needed, and check to make sure drivers are headed towards the restaurant or customer.
My gripes started when we went from "you'll only be communicating to drivers via text" to suddenly calling drivers and restaurants, more markets being assigned to one person, and a change of shift times / assignments to "better work with the needs of the business" (which, before it was corrected, left a lot of dispatchers without the hours needed for full time. It just got worse and worse bc of a bunch of things, but mainly it was due to the company expecting more and more of us with no positives to reward us. Admittedly they did raise pay by a dollar...only for us all to find out that it's bc they're trying to stay competitive so they can hire people, so not really a raise at all. And honestly not enough for all the extra duties we've been given.
And then things start looking up. Back to 8 hour shifts so only 4 days of work minimum a week for full time, the rebrand (they lost a trademark court battle) was supposed to be this big great thing, and we were even opening new markets (even if they were in New Jersey, which is far from our cost of where we're at, and 15$ compensation for the driver just isn't enough). And you know what they did then?
Sent out an email at 2 in the morning. For some, it was an explanation of the current situation. And for others, it was a furlough notice, informing us that we were being furloughed until January 10th. Over 3 months away!!! I just can't deal with this shit, it's insane how terribly mismanaged the company is when it comes to upper management. Meetings were had for remaining employees, and a friend still working informed me that the upper management knew nothing, including the fact that we have score cards! Something we've had for months now!
I just don't know how they think they're coming back from this. Supposedly they stayed they did this now go avoid doing it later but like, if you're this bad now, how would this prevent a mass furlough later?? The fact you had to do it now still means you were in dire enough straights that you probably won't survive later either.
Just for a frame of reference: when I started working, we had 3-5 markets per person. The people still remaining are watching 16-20 markets a piece. It's insane. And that's not even considering all the extra work of checking on drivers who haven't moved while on an order.
