10/23/24 WIP Wednesday (Closed) | TBD AU

He settles into his bed and tries to sleep but now he’s just staring up at the ceiling. He rolls over and looks at all of the photos he had taken from their shared rooms in Columbia and Palmetto.

“Abram.”

Neil closes his eyes and tells himself that he needs to rest, he needs to be strong for when Andrew wakes up because when Andrew wakes up he’s sure there’s going to be a fight. Sure that the argument that he had intended to have half a decade before is now brewing anew and Neil doesn’t know if he ever could win it, even though he has to.

He has to because tonight was an accident but Neil can’t risk there being another accident. 

“It was empty.” Katelyn’s voice rings in his head and Neil tries to shake it out.

“He doesn’t remember most of college so he doesn’t remember why he broke his deal with Aaron. Doesn’t remember that he found something else, that he chose you.” he brings his hands up to his ears, trying to block it out even if it was all in his mind.

“But that doesn’t mean that he forgot you. He didn’t know it was you, but he knew where you were supposed to be.” Neil opens his eyes and stares up at the ceiling.

“Fuck.”

sometimes its so crazy to realize that there's actually a lot of things i like. that i thought i didn't like because i was a depressed teenager. i love being outside! i love swimming! i love talking to people! even strangers sometimes! i love getting dressed in fun outfits and doing makeup! i love reading and going to art museums! i just thought i was doomed forever to a life of complete and total apathy and void! and now look at me! still a little shaky but i'm doing it!!!!!

"Can you please tell me how you ended up on the front page of the baldur's mouth, aGAIN?" Gale asks as he shakes his head, almost desperate at the words in the article. "Upper city's nightmare?' Karlach for the love of Mystra tell me you didn- actually, don't tell me yet."

She stood there, mouth open as she was about to reply, her finger was pointed up as if to try and let herself be seen, but before she can even think to say a syllable, Gale is reading out loud again.

"One of the heroes of the gate has been caught causing mayhem in the upper city. A reliable source, which we won't disclose for legal reasons, has informed us that Karlach Cliffgate, baldurian citizen, has disturbed a poor old lady that was strolling through the market." He stopped there, refusing to read forward, and staring defeated at the tiefling.

"J-just tell me it was for a serious matter" Gale pleads desperate.

"I wanna say it was, but actually-"

you ever think about how pretty much the only reason we use base10 is because we have 10 fingers and if everyone had 6 fingers on each hand we'd use base12 and never even think a thing of it and also math would be pretty much better in every way?

10/23/24 WIP Wednesday (Closed) | TBD AU

Neil can’t handle another word, he shoots up and the chair clatters to the ground and he rushes out of the room not stopping even as he hears Aaron yelling at him to come back. Neil gets out of the hospital, he shouldn’t have ever been in the room with Andrew to begin with.

He knew that he shouldn’t but Neil had done plenty of things that he shouldn’t. So he demanded that he ride along in the ambulance, lied his way into getting updates from the nurses and doctors when they were doing the initial scans, and told himself that it was only until Aaron and Katelyn arrived. Told himself it wouldn’t be long even though Katelyn had relayed a message via Nicky that they were stuck in the post game traffic and that it’d be hours.

So he let himself sit there in the hospital room with Andrew.

The cooler night air hits his lungs and Neil feels like he’s going to be sick.

“Abram”

It wasn’t a name that Andrew should know, or at least, not one that he would use to refer to Neil. Not now, not when he doesn’t remember when Neil gave it to him. Gave him the only real thing Neil had at the time.

Neil slams his hand on the pedestrian crossing button multiple times he considers just running across the busy 4-lane road and ignoring the blaring horns and possible death but stays until the light turns and continues to run…until the next light.

“Why are there so many fucking lights?” he pants, wiping at sweat on his forehead. He straightens up in an instant when he hears a much beloathed ringtone. He takes two deep breaths before he answers, “Lord Moriyama,” he greets.
