ULTIMATE SUPERGIRL READING GUIDE
Tumblr media
since i've been asked a few times in the past for various reading guides for kara, i thought i'd compile them all into one post for the sake of convenience!
this guide has reading orders for supergirl comics in PRE-CRISIS (1959-1985), POST-CRISIS (2004-2011), NEW 52 (2011-2016), REBIRTH (2016-2021), and INFINITE FRONTIER (2021-present).
if you have any questions at all don't be afraid to shoot me an ask!
for each section bolded comics are required, italicized comics are recommended, and everything else is optional!

For everyone hoping and or expecting there to be something huge in the mid season finale on Thursday and who will feel let down and upset if there's not I wanted to point out some things.
First of all Tim just came back in s7 and it was a shortened season. I know we all had issues with how that season was handled but I also think Tim had a lot to figure out for having just come back to show. He was bringing 911 to a new network had only 10 eps to tell the entire seasons stories in. It was also a rather important season considering it was where they finally had Buck come out and where the pieces were finally being put into motion for Buddie to happen eventually (like in episode 704).
But I also think a lot of stuff Tim wanted to do in s7 he didn't get to and instead carried it over to s8 where he felt he had more time. The majority of 8a was spent closing out storylines that started in s7. What people have to realize is that a lot of this likely would have been the second half of season 7 had that been a full season. Now going into 8b I expect to see more focus put on Eddie's coming out and more movement towards Buddie happening.
None of this means that the mid season finale will necessarily be a huge ep or have a nde or have Eddie come out or Buddie kiss or anything like that. This ep may be pretty similar to the one we saw last week especially because like some have pointed out Tim and the others may have been expecting 809 to be the mid season finale not 808. And besides that 911's mid season finales have rarely been these huge events. Those were usually saved for other eps.
---------------------------------
S1 -
shortened season - no mid season finale
no real NDE's although you could say the plane disaster was one for Bobby
S2 -
210 - mid season finale - It's revealed that Chim's friend is Doug
*2b*
211/212/213 - Chim begins/ Doug attacks Chim and takes Maddie
217 - Shannon dies car accident
218 - Buck NDE truck bombing
S3 -
302/303 - Buck and Chris NDE tsunami
308 - Hen NDE car accident (a few eps before mid season finale)
Bobby radiation exposure 309 (one ep before mid season finale)
310 - mid season ep - Michael cancer diagnosis
*3b*
314 - dispatch center/Maddie held hostage
315 - Eddie NDE well
317 - Athena NDE r*pist
S4 -
shortened season because of Covid no mid season finale
405 - Buck NDE fire
409 - Albert NDE car accident
413/414 - Eddie NDE shooting
S5 -
506 - Buddie kidnapping
508 - Hospital (where David worked) fire
510 - mid season ep Eddie leaves the 118
*5b*
513 - Eddie breakdown
516 - dispatch fire
517 - Hen/Chim - NDE - jonah
S6 -
Mid season ep - Bobby's sponsor dying
*6b*
610/611 - Buck NDE lightning strike
618 - 118 NDE bridge collapse
S7 -
shortened season - no mid season finale
701-703 - Bathena NDE - cruise ship disaster
708-710 Bathena NDE - Cartel/Fire
S8 -
802/803 - Athena NDE plane emergency
805 - Denny NDE
---------------------------------
Looking at the way 911 has structured it's seasons in the past it's far more likely that if we're going to get a nde for Buddie or one of them we're going to get it later in the season and not at the mid season. We could get a more surprising moment like we've seen in the past like with Eddie leaving the 118 but like I said before I think it's highly probable that 808 wasn't meant to even be the season finale so a more shocking or surprising moments might not even be until 809 when the show comes back.
I just really think we all need to take a look how the show operates and prepare ourselves so we're not too let down. Also as much as I love coming up with theories and love listening to theories everyone else comes up with I feel like it's become a habit lately in our fandom for some people to get everyone excited and expecting certain things from the show. Then when the show doesn't deliver every single episode people are left feeling angry. This isn't just the fault of the people talking about their theories it's a fandom issue in general I think. I wish our fandom would just be more realistic going into each ep and not so quick to turn on the show if expectations aren't met immediately.
I 100% believe Eddie is going to come out and Buddie is happening. I've been watching the show for years and things have never been as close to Buddie canon as they are now but that doesn't mean it will happen instantly. Everything that's being shown and said (in interviews) is telling us that the show is playing the long game. We have to be patient and wait for them to get there, which I know can be really frustrating, trust me I've been waiting for Buddie's love story to be canon for what feels like forever. I think we will see more movement in Eddie and Buddie's story this season but maybe not this episode coming.
----
I also think it's important that we show our love for the show and the people who work on it more. I feel like a lot of the stuff I see out of our fandom lately is pretty negative. I'm not saying it's not warranted or that I don't do my own share too (I was talking just the other day on twitter about my issues with Athena's storylines) but I also can't help to think of how Oliver and Ryan and the others must feel. Imagine working really hard on something and then going online to see how the audience feels about it and the predominate reaction is about how awful the episode was. I definitely believe it's possible to love 911 (and any media really) and still be critical of it at times but I also think sometimes our fandom focuses too much on what we're not getting from the show and less on what we are.
We are incredibly lucky to have two amazing actors who put such love and care into playing Buck and Eddie and who have always been supportive of our ship. We're lucky that pretty much everyone involved with 911 (minus maybe KR) seems to be supportive of Buddie happening because trust me that's not common among a lot of other non canon queer ships. We're lucky that Buck has finally come out and that all signs are pointing towards Eddie coming out too. We're lucky that the show is even still on the air because it was seriously on the brink of being canceled before abc picked it up. If it had been not only would we have no chance of Buddie but Buck would never have come out and both men would have ended their run on the show with those lackluster partners. And speaking of lackluster partners we're lucky that Tim got rid of Tommy. I know he could have done it sooner but he also could have kept him around longer. I think some of you need to realize that making Buddie a reality is still a risk for the show and for abc. Having another main come out is still risky but they seem ready to take the risk.
Sorry this post got so long. I just had a lot of thoughts with the new ep coming and seeing everyone already prepared to be upset about it. Let's just go into this ep with limited expectations and be happy we get to go into a hiatus for the first time in a while without b/t being a thing. Thanks if you taken the time to read all of this. ❤️

Ho Ho Ho, it's that time of year again when I, your Secret Sleuth, am here to sniff out some sleuthy clues to what you like. You've told me you like AUs, tell me some of your favourites! What do you like about them? Also, what are some of your favourite episodes of Nancy Drew? The comfort ones, the ones that bring you joy. I want them allllllllll.
OHHH ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAINNNN
hi sleuthy!!! don't sniff too hard or else i'll catch ur nose!
okay aus- listen. i have so many in my head that i HAVENT written at this point it's...frightening.
however some of my favorites include soulmate aus (their first words on you, matching tattoos, a tattoo that identifies them, a handprint the first place they touch you (and it's in a weird spot sometimes which makes it confusing and funnier), etc), i also love the angst that hanahaki disease au brings, childhood friends, college au, arranged marriage (any reason just give me having to pretend a relationship and i will worship u). i think we've had maybe a few soulmate mark aus but i really dig it. even better if there's confusion ugh, perfect spectacular.
i have a running list of comfort episodes and some of them ppl will be like uhm why. but
103 - lilac inn, i love nick sm and he's so fucking smart and just. i love his story developing over the series and UGH i love this episode
108 - george/ace friendship starts here for me tbh. and i LOVE ace/george friendship
113 - WHISPER BOX MY BELOVED...ace was largely the same yes he was...
114 - "i love you" "i think i love you too" come on peak cinema

210 - need i say more. lust dress.
212 - OHHH GRANT I LOVE U...
213 - ok actual comfort episode, birdie is so beloved and learning to let go is very hard for me! so this and when george splits from odette and nancy talks about missing her mom that same episode were very hard.
218 - dreamscape...ough..
303 - ace being possessed and detective con. the message at the end..like this episode is SO GOOD
307 - see 213...talking about grief is hard
310 - OUGHHHH NANCY KNOWING ACE IS TRAPPED IN A GHOST DIMENSION BE STILL MY HEART
403 - comfort episode up until everything goes WRONG bc nace is so happy in it
404 - I LOVE MOVIE STAR BESS AND MANAGER RYAN THEY MAKE ME GIGGLE. COMFORT EPISODE
406 - tristan at prom my beloved marry me. comfort episode until the spider eugh also nancy drew my beautiful girl i love u
408 - BODY SWAP...

your friend and mine Jonathan Harker is back for another year of Dracula Daily! and if you're like me, you might want to keep track of how much you've read.
the StoryGraph listing for Dracula Daily has 440 pages, so below the cut is the dates of each entry, and the approximate page count for each. (the simpler option listed on StoryGraph is 4 pages per email, as there are 110, but sometimes you want full credit for reading the October 3 email.) some page counts span a couple of days due to short entries, but for the most part, entries are at least a page!
May 3: 4 pages
May 4: 6 pages
May 5: 21 pages
May 7: 28 pages

my spreadsheet (public version)
so i have this spreadsheet that i use for prompts for this fandom, comprised of several prompt lists and the exact order of which is not easily publicly available. if you want to send me a prompt, send me a ship and a number between 1-725 (subject to change) and receive a sort of mystery box surprise of a fic. through the use of this list, you can see what prompts have already been done. if it’s for another ship, you can certainly send me the same prompt that was already used in another fic. if a prompt has been used three times, that prompt will be closed. thank you for your cooperation <3 listing under the cut!
possible progress statuses: prompted, in progress, editing, posted. if a prompt does not have one of these statuses, it has not been sent in thus far.

USAF wants to retire several aircraft fleets and increase the purchase of fighters in the 2024 budget
Among the retirement then F-22 fighters and the AWACS E-3 Sentry.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/15/2023 - 00:08 in Military
The U.S. Air Force intends to retire 310 aircraft, including 42 A-10 Warthogs, as part of its 2024 fiscal budget to free up money for its modernization programs.
The proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024 provides for the purchase of 72 fighters - 48 F-35As manufactured by Lockheed Martin and 24 Boeing F-15EX Eagle IIs - and spending more on the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider stealth bomber and command and control management aircraft on the Boeing E-7A battlefield, on the next-generation nuclear missile manufactured by Northrop Grum
The USAF Department is requesting US$ 215.1 billion in 2024, US$ 9.3 billion, or 4.5%, on the amount approved for fiscal year 2023. This includes a proposed budget of $185.1 billion for the Air Force itself, $5.4.4 billion above 2023 and $30 billion for the Space Force, an increase of $3.9 billion over 2023.
Tumblr media
F-35 Lightning II.
Almost $5 billion of this total budget growth would go to research, development testing and evaluation expenses, bringing the funding of this section to $55.4 billion in 2024.
Massive wave of retirement
The U.S. Air Force plan to retire 310 aircraft in 2024 would be much larger than the 150 retirements recommended in the 2023 budget, although Congress approved only 115 of them. If lawmakers approve all, or even most, of these retirements, this would represent a significant step in the service's effort to eliminate older and outdated fuselages from their fleet.
Tumblr media
A-10 Thunderbolt II.
If approved, the proposed retirement of 42 A-10 in 2024 would follow the retirement of 21 Warthogs this year and leave the service with 218 attack aircraft. The U.S. Air Force tried for years to retire the Warthog, arguing that it would be very vulnerable against an enemy with advanced air defenses and instead use the money to pay for newer fighters.
The Chief of the Air Force General Staff, General CQ Brown, told reporters at the Air and Space Forces Association symposium in Colorado on March 7 that the service wants all A-10s to be retired by 2029. Until recently, Congress blocked USAF's attempts to retire the A-10.
Tumblr media
F-15EX Eagle II.
The Air Force also wants to retire 57 F-15C/D fighters. Some of these Eagle jets are about four decades old and are nearing the end of their lives. The Air Force plans to bring new F-35, as well as newly manufactured Boeing F-15EX Eagle II fighters, to replace the retiring fighters.
And the service is already removing dozens of older F-15s from Kadena Air Base in Japan for retirement, replacing them with rotary fighters, such as the F-22.
Tumblr media
F-22 Raptor.
The U.S. Air Force is again trying to retire 32 F-22A Raptor Block 20 fighters, which are not combat-fit and are now being used mainly for training purposes. Last year, Congress blocked the Air Force's first attempt to retire 33 of these F-22s.
The U.S. Air Force also wants to take further steps to retire the E-3 Sentry airborne alert and control system, or AWACS, in 2024.
The USAF suggested retiring 15 of its 31 AWACS in its 2023 budget proposal, but lawmakers granted only 13 of these retirements. And Congress imposed conditions on these retirements, requiring the service to produce a report on the retirement of the E-3, as well as its acquisition strategy to replace it with the E-7.
Major General Michael Greiner, USAF's deputy secretary for budget, told reporters at a March 10 briefing at the Pentagon that the Air Force believes it has met the requirements for the 13 AWACS retirements this year, which would bring its total fleet up to 18.
Tumblr media
E-3 Sentry.
And in the 2024 budget proposal, the service said it wants to retire two more E-3s, leaving him with 16.
The USAF flies the AWACS, with the unmistakable massive rotating radome mounted on its fuselage since the 1970s. But it says that the overhead structure of the E-3 is increasingly difficult to keep flying and its sensor technology is outdated.
The service plans to replace the AWACS with a new fleet of 26 E-7s by 2032. The service granted Boeing a contract on February 28 to start work on the first U.S. E-7 rapid prototype, which is expected to begin production in fiscal year 2025 and will enter the field two years later.
At last week's briefing, USAF Secretary Frank Kendall minimized the likelihood of a capacity gap arising by retiring some AWACS before the E-7s arrive to replace them.
“E-3 is not essentially effective in the environments we are most concerned about,” he said. "The sensor is quite old at the moment and the maintenance of the aircraft is very expensive."
Tumblr media
E-7 Wedgetail.
The retirement of about half of the current E-3 fleet will provide spare parts and other resources that USAF can use to keep the remaining AWACS fleet in the air, Kendall added, so that it can meet critical requirements, such as NORAD's air defense mission.
“It’s a matter of making the transition as smooth as possible, freeing up resources, starting to retrain people and then transferring them [to the E-7] with minimal operational impact when retiring the AWACS,” he said.
The budget also proposes to add $254 million to continue rapid prototyping work on the Boeing E-7A, set to replace the old air alert system and E-3 Sentry control system, which would raise its Fiscal Year funding to $681 million.
Greiner said that the increase in spending on the E-7 would allow the U.S. Air Force to acquire a second rapid prototype aircraft.
Tumblr media
KC-10 Extender.
The budget provides for the withdrawal of the last 24 KC-10 Extender refueling tankers and the remaining 48 MQ-9 Reapers Block 1. He would also retire the last three E-8 JSTARS (Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System).
USAF also wants to retire 37 HH-60G Pave Hawk combat rescue helicopters, which are being replaced by HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters manufactured by Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin; and 52 twin-engine T-1 Jayhawk training jets.
Tumblr media
B-1B Lancer.
The U.S. Air Force also decided to retire a B-1B Lancer bomber that suffered an engine fire in April 2022, instead of trying to fix it. This would leave the service with 44 B-1s. The force intends to have the entire Lancer fleet retired by the early 2030s.
Many investments for R&D
The proposal includes $4.8 billion in budget growth for 20 new or significantly strengthened programs to transform the U.S. Air Force, including CCAs.
Funding for the CCA program would increase dramatically from $470 million to $522 million to accelerate the development and testing of autonomous drones. The CCAs would fly as part of the Next Generation Air Dominance family of systems that will make up the USAF's sixth-generation fighter, as well as the F-35 and possibly other manned aircraft.
This increase in funding would cover the cost of developing the platform itself, developing the autonomous programming that will pilot the drones and setting up an experimental operations unit to plan how the service will use the CCAs, Greiner said.
Greiner said that the budget proposal is where the "acceleration" of work in the CCAs can be seen. “We started working on CONOPS, concept of operations and how we would really employ them,” he said.
Kendall said at AFA on March 7 that the service is planning 1,000 CCAs, as it begins to meet basic needs, organizational structures, support and other requirements for such a fleet.
Kendall said at the March 10 briefing that the U.S. Air Force wants to start producing CCAs by the end of the decade. He also said that as the USAF increasingly discusses its plans to equip manned fighters with autonomous CCAs, the defense industry has intensified its own research and development in this technology.
“I’m encouraged by what the industry is doing on its own,” Kendall said. “It’s a serious program. It's a multibillion-dollar program."
Even so, Kendall emphasized that each CCA should cost “a fraction” of an F-35 and said he saw enough work to indicate that it is a “very reasonable goal.”
Kendall said in September that the Air Force can hold a competition for CCAs in 2024, but the service did not define when this will happen.
"We will start with the competition and reduce the selection at some point," Kendall said. "We don't know exactly when this will happen."
The Air Force also wants to increase the NGAD budget by $276 million in 2024 for technology maturation and risk reduction. This growth would raise its total research and development funding to more than $1.9 billion.
Kristyn Jones, assistant secretary of financial management and controller of the Air Force, who is performing the functions of undersecretary of the Air Force, said that the service needs to change to maintain its air dominance, which is being challenged by China. The service needs to look for economical ways to carry out its missions, including equipping manned fighters with autonomous drones called CCAs.
“We cannot allow complacency, nor can we allow a USAF composed largely of fighters that cost as much as our fifth-generation aircraft,” such as the F-35, Jones said.
More fighters, refuelers and B-21 Raiders
The U.S. Air Force expects to buy 48 F-35As in 2024, more than the 43 approved by Congress in 2023.
The proposed budget would also pay for 24 F-15EX fighters and 15 refueling Boeing KC-46A Pegasus in 2024, which would be the same number as each purchased in 2023.
The U.S. Air Force originally planned to buy 144 F-15EXs, but in documents accompanying last year's budget request, the service reduced the expected acquisition to 80. At the March 10 briefing, Kendall told reporters that the USAF partially reversed this cut and now plans to buy 104 F-15EXs, although he did not explain why the Air Force's position has changed.
Tumblr media
F-15EX Eagle II.
USAF also wants a $673 million spending increase for B-21 in 2024, which would raise its purchase financing to more than $2.3 billion to continue low-rate initial production. An Air Force officer told reporters that Raider's purchase financing would buy more than one aircraft, but did not say how many, and also includes money for spare parts, training and early acquisition of main parts for future production batches.
The Air Force said it is still anticipating the first flight of the B-21 sometime in 2023.
B-21 Raider.
Northrop Grumman executives said in a January results conference call that the company expected the U.S. Air Force to award the first B-21 production contract later this year. At a roundtable on March 7 with reporters at the AFA conference, Kendall and the head of Air Force acquisitions, Andrew Hunter, refused to say if they were planning a contract for the B-21 this year and said they were focused on the first flight.
Kendall told reporters in Colorado that he wants the B-21 to avoid the problems associated with the simultaneity that plagued the F-35 in its development period. Simultaneity refers to when an aircraft undergoes development and acquisition at the same time.

“The excessive simultaneity [of] the F-35 program, I was famous for calling this negligence an acquisition,” Kendall said on March 7. "We will not commit acquisition negligence [with B-21]. We want to have some confidence."
The U.S. Air Force also plans to buy seven MH-139 Grey Wolf helicopters, two more than in 2023, and an E-11 aircraft that can carry out the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node, or BACN, mission. He also bought an E-11 in 2023.

The proposed budget includes about $8 million for the Air Force's Next Generation Air Refueling System, or NGAS, so that the service can complete its research analysis of alternatives. The U.S. Air Force announced in the AFA that it is reshaping its plans for future air refueling tankers and will halve the number of tankers it planned to buy as an interim measure.
The budget would also add, for the first time, money for purchases for the LGM-35A Sentinel program, intended to succeed the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile of the Cold War era at the end of this decade. Greiner said that the proposed $539 million would pay for long-term parts to help prepare the first batch of Sentinel, scheduled for fiscal year 2026.

ATEEZ Pairings in Fanfic at AO3 (2023)
Curious which romantic partnerships between members were underused, last year I decided to do a quick survey of pairings at AO3 because that data was easy to get compared to Tumblr. Wanting to see what has changed I revisited the data. The numbers reflect how many times a pairing occurs, not how many works are about that member as a character or how prominent they are in a story. For instance Jongho x Yeosang appears surprisingly often but more commonly as a couple when the whole group is partnered in a story along the typical breakdown of Hongjoong x Seonghwa, San x Wooyoung, and Mingi x Yunho.
The numbers I found really paint a picture of the dearth of reader inserts posted at Archive of Our Own versus Tumblr. Just writing for two years now, I have contributed between 5-10% of the reader x Mingi, x Jongho, and x Yunho categories there which is such a misrepresentation of what the whole of ATEEZ fanfic looks like. I encourage anyone to consider contributing their writing, especially reader pairings, to the library there to preserve more fandom history given how fast accounts can turn over on Tumblr when people deactivate. While reader inserts are not as popular at AO3, I think it is worth posting there both as a record and because cultures can change over time. When people are given more reader inserts to enjoy there a taste might develop and we all would benefit from more stories to read.
The following snapshot is roughly done (and corrections are welcome) but it is a fairly accurate look at the state of pairings in ATEEZ fanfiction present at AO3 on May 6, 2023. The numbers in parentheses are from the previous year.
