Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Sorcerer Geto x Non Sorcerer reader. Sorcerer Gojo x Non Sorcerer reader. Only one ship will prevail, and this is the story of Suguru being saved. (Pushed back a few years, with 21+ characters). It’s riddled with angst, it’s messy, and it’s so difficult, but it’s realistic.
Author’s Note: Pre Series: Hey all! We will be exploring: Satoru starting to learn about connection beyond Jujutsu and Suguru; We’ll deal with the tide of darkness that threatens to overtake Suguru, exploring what it takes to save Suguru; And Satoru is beginning to learn that he’s more than a weapon. Includes: grief, hurt/comfort, angst, ego death, coming back from a spiral through support & love & time, breaking free from what you were conditioned to be, jealousy, developing self-identity & dreams, and more. Satoru heavy in the beginning, Suguru heavy in the middle. Chapters will be lengthy, but it’s worth it. My second series will follow up with a new reader x Satoru, and it will be a continuation of this story, but with different main characters. Hope you come along for the ride :)
Premise: Suguru never stopped loving you. He’d broken up with you, but that was to protect you. He wouldn’t involve you in his dangerous life anymore. One year later, and it’s evident that he’d still ruin himself for you, in every single way. Satoru, on the other hand, is annoyed. He wants Suguru to get his head back in the game, as they’re both teachers now. Determined to figure out a solution to the problem of you, Satoru starts to secretly visit you at your workplace, the local cafe. But as he spends time with you, Satoru gets an unexpected surprise when he realizes he’s catching feelings for you, too.
Status: ongoing

I: Canon Suguru did defect. And this story is for him, the version of him that suffered so much, and broke. This story is for everybody who was once caring, but got traumatized deeply, used over and over, and consequently turned bitter and disillusioned. You deserved better. Please try to remember there is goodness out there, and that being kind and good to others is still of utmost importance.

Days 21 & 22, San Martín del Camino and Astorga
The corn fields end at the doorstep of Astorga and with little fanfare, the Meseta is behind me. To the north I can see the mountains of Asturias and to the west those of Galicia, where I am headed next. Tomorrow the climbing begins as I move toward the highest elevation of the trip later this week, and likely cooler temperatures and rain, as Galicia is known as the Scotland of Spain.
Tumblr media
Last night at a country hostel I discovered what might be my new favorite wine brand - “Peregrino” - as well as my new favorite pedicure design shown on a fellow pilgrim. Just ignore the bandaids covering all the blisters……
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is amazing how even when carrying all your belongings on your back and walking 15-20 miles a day with a life turned upside down, there is a daily pilgrim routine most of us have fallen into.
I arise at 6 and quietly pack up and leave my hostel around 6:30. This gives me a jump on some quick miles while it’s still very cool, with the bonus that I see the sunrise behind me at 8. After a couple of hours I am usually able to find a cafe or bar where I grab a hearty breakfast. I am burning thousands of calories a day and need to refuel often. One restaurant owner declared that I was “scrawny” and asked if she could please add extra ham and eggs to my Salmorejo - this actually happened. So I have abandoned my plant based diet for now and I am eating what is readily available. In Spain, that’s often something involving pork.
Check out today’s spread featuring jámon Serrano and tomato purée with olive oil to top off the bread. Breakfast of champions! Or at least, of Camino walkers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Refueled, I settle in for 4-5 hours more of walking, check into my hostel by 2, shower and wash all my clothing by hand and hang it in the sun. It dries in an hour.
I seek out more calories, typically in the form of the “menú del día”, my new favorite thing in the universe.. For around 15 euro I get a first and second plate of food along with bread, dessert and wine or a drink. Whaaaaat? It’s a total feast. I am in love with this daily meal.
Afterwards there is time for exploring, if the feet allow, mass, possibly a pilgrim blessing in the local church and general chill time with new friends. Lights out at 9 and REPEAT the next day!
And did I mention I have walked over 500 kilometers? Just sayin’……

Yoga & Walking
As I hoped, my blood sugar was back down on Saturday morning, dropping to 158. We only got our coffee and the brain games done before we had to take off and pick up Kathleen so she and Nancy could do another yoga session in downtown Springfield.
I immediately went to a nearby RiteAid to get a tetanus shot but they didn’t take walk-ins on weekends. I’ll have to go back Monday. The average time from infection to appearance of signs and symptoms (incubation period) is 10 days. The incubation period can range from 3 to 21 days, so my fingers are crossed since I can’t remember when I had my last tetanus vaccine.
Then I went back downtown and found the Booth Kelly Path Trailhead to the Mill Race Path and walked for about 40 minutes, taking pictures along the way. It was a teasel paradise. There was also a large industrial site of some kind that provided opportunities for a few abstract photos. Checking the map later, my walk on the path was about a mile and a half total. I walked another half mile around downtown before hitting the path.
When Nancy and Kathleen finished their yoga class, we walked a few blocks east to the Pump Cafe for breakfast. Kathleen and Nancy got BLTs and I repeated my previous meal, the Mediterranean omelet. On the way back to the car we stopped in at Chuck & Alice to introduce Kathleen to the store. Nancy wound up buying a new purse.
Once we dropped off Kathleen, we headed toward home. We stopped first at Albertson’s to buy supplies for making our favorite spinach and lentil curry. The curry and a chocolate cream pie Kathleen promised to make will be our menu for Sunday. I had to go back to the store later for cream, for our coffee in the morning, and cilantro, which we use to garnish the spinach lentil curry once it has been served up.
Saturday’s dinner consisted of the remaining leftover meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. Once we were done eating and cleaning up, we took a walk around our neighborhood, which is just short of a kilometer.
Our evening’s entertainment was the final episode of the tenth series of “Midsomer Murders,” then we followed that up with another “HPI” in which things among the police squad got even more complicated.
We had some trouble with the garage door during the day. It did not open completely as we were leaving for yoga. We did not notice, so we bumped into it. It opened back up, but when we got out on the driveway, it would not close. I had to get out and force it shut. When we came home after the morning adventures, it opened all the way again but would not shut without assistance. We will alert the rental agency, but we may need to call in a garage door repair person instead of waiting forever for the rental agency.

More California rain, higher grocery prices (NPR) California hasn’t seen the end of the extreme rain and flooding yet, and soon consumers will see the effects in grocery stores. The latest series of storms hit the central coast particularly hard, putting about 20,000 acres of farmland underwater.
Oregon’s Rural-Urban Divide Sparks Talk of Secession (NYT) Corey Cook still holds a fondness for her days living in Portland, where the downtown pubs and riverfront cherry blossoms made her proud to call the Rose City home during her 20s. But as she started growing wary of the metro area’s congestion and liberal politics, she moved to the suburbs, then the exurbs, before heading east, eventually escaping Portland’s sphere of influence on the other side of the Cascade Mountains in 2017. But even here, where she now runs a Christian camp amid the foothill pines overlooking the Grande Ronde Valley, she cannot help but notice how the values of western Oregon are held over the eastern part of the state by way of laws making guns less accessible and abortions more accessible. Unwilling to move east into Idaho, farther from her family, Ms. Cook, 52, now wonders if redrawing the state maps could instead bring Idaho’s values to her. The broad sense of estrangement felt across rural Oregon has led conservatives in recent years to talk about whether it would one day make sense to be part of Idaho. Greater Idaho sees its solution as simple—a shift in an existing border that would claim the entire eastern half of Oregon without creating an entirely new state. Despite being a political long shot, the sustained and growing interest from residents in the area and attention from politicians in Idaho have illustrated how much the state is already divided in spirit.
Costa Rica, laid-back land of ‘pura vida,’ succumbing to drug violence (Washington Post) PUNTARENAS, Costa Rica—All was quiet that night on the Promenade of the Tourists, the famed boulevard overlooking this coastal city’s white-sand beach and softly lapping waves. But just a few miles from the bars and seafood cafes, Maribel Sandí was startled awake by rapid-fire, metallic bursts. “There was a dead man,” Sandí said. The 21-year-old’s body had been “ripped apart” by a barrage from AK-47 assault rifles. Costa Rica has long been a model of progressive democracy in Latin America, a nation that abolished its army in 1948 and set aside a quarter of its territory for conservation. Hundreds of thousands of American and European tourists fly in annually to surf, hike the pristine rainforests and enjoy the laid-back “pura vida” vibe. Now, this longtime refuge of tranquility is grappling with a jump in violence, driven by a little-remarked on phenomenon that is bedeviling several Latin American countries. Once merely way stations for illegal drugs heading to the United States or Europe, they are suffering abuse problems of their own.
Farmers struggle in Argentina as drought withers their crops (AP) The ground crackles as Guillermo Cuitino walks across dry farmland that should be green and lush this time of year. He grabs a soy plant and easily disintegrates its leaves with his hands. “This year’s drought was extreme,” the agricultural engineer said this week at the farm where he works in Urquiza, a town about 230 kilometers (143 miles) from Argentina’s capital. Even weeds aren’t growing. That scene is repeated in farms across Argentina, where harvesting should be in full swing but months of dry weather has ruined. Farmers are scrambleing to make ends meet, and a sharp drop in expected revenue from exported farm products will deal a severe blow to Argentina’s shaky economy. “This drought is unprecedented,” farmer Martín Sturla said, standing in the middle of his dustry fields in nearby San Antonio de Areco. “It’s Dantesque. No one has seen anything like it.”
Macron Defends Reviled Pension Reform (Foreign Policy) On national television Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron defended his decision to push through wildly unpopular pension reforms. The reforms, which will raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, will have to be implemented by the end of the year, he said. In the following weeks, the Constitutional Council will review the bill, which cannot progress without the council’s approval. Unions, meanwhile, have called for strikes and protests on Thursday, and transportation around the country is expected to be disrupted. Politicians on the left and right slammed Macron for both disregarding and inflaming French feelings.
Eager young Albanians risk everything for new future in UK (AP) Monika Mulaj’s son was in his second year of college in Albania, studying to become a mechanical engineer, when he resolved to make a daring change: He told his parents he would leave his lifelong home for a new future in Britain. Five years later, the 25-year-old is working two jobs in Britain and hardly thinks of returning to his homeland. “Albania is in regress,” he complains to his mother. His path has been shared in recent years by thousands of young Albanians who have crossed the English Channel in small boats or inflatable dinghies to seek work in the U.K. Their odyssey reflects the country’s anemic economy and a younger generation’s longing for fresh opportunities. In 2018, only 300 people reached Britain by crossing the channel in small boats. The number rose to 45,000 in 2022, in part because of arrivals from Albania. Britain is attractive to Albanians because it has a better economy and higher-paying jobs than neighboring countries such as Greece or Italy. Many Albanians also have family ties in the U.K.
UK to send depleted uranium shells to Ukraine (AP) Russia threatened to escalate attacks in Ukraine after the British government announced it would provide a type of munition to Ukraine that Moscow falsely claims has nuclear components. The British defense ministry on Monday confirmed it would provide Ukraine with armor-piercing rounds containing depleted uranium. Such rounds were developed by the U.S. during the Cold War to destroy Soviet tanks, including the same T-72 tanks that Ukraine now faces in its push to break through a stalemate in the east. Depleted uranium is a byproduct of the uranium enrichment process needed to create nuclear weapons. The rounds retain some radioactive properties, but they can’t generate a nuclear reaction like a nuclear weapon would, RAND nuclear expert and policy researcher Edward Geist said. That didn’t stop the Russians from offering a full-throated warning that the rounds were opening the door to further escalation. In the past, they have suggested the war could escalate to nuclear weapons use.
To stay or go? The dilemma Ukrainians near front face every day (Reuters) It was finally time for Vasyl Kurlyshchuk to leave. When Ukraine’s State Emergency Service evacuation team arrived outside the gate of his small home in the eastern village of Kalynivka on Tuesday, the 74-year-old began slowly sorting through his papers and faded picture albums. Outside, the loud boom of outgoing artillery from Ukrainian positions and rumble of incoming shells fired from Russia’s side of the frontlines less than 4 km (2.5 miles) to the east were a reminder of the dangers of staying. Just to the east of Kalynivka, Bakhmut is a city that since August has become the 13-month war’s bloodiest battleground between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with thousands of soldiers on both sides killed there. But many elderly residents of Kalynivka and the town of Chasiv Yar next door say they have nowhere to go and no desire to leave.
Indian court orders Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail for Modi comment (Reuters) A court in India found opposition leader Rahul Gandhi guilty of defamation on Thursday for a speech he made in 2019 in which he referred to thieves as having the surname Modi, and sentenced him to two years in prison. Gandhi, a senior leader of the Congress party and the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty, will appeal against the order in a higher court, his party said. The judgment was passed by a court in the city of Surat, located in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. An adviser to the federal government, Kanchan Gupta, said Gandhi, a member of the lower house of parliament, could face immediate disqualification as a member of parliament following the conviction. The opposition claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched to eliminate non-BJP leaders and parties by prosecuting them.
Suspected Iran drone kills US worker in Syria; US retaliates (AP) A strike Thursday by a suspected Iranian-made drone killed a U.S. contractor and wounded five American troops and another contractor in northeast Syria, the Pentagon said. American forces retaliated soon after with “precision airstrikes” in Syria targeting facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, the military said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, reported that the American strikes killed six Iranian-backed fighters at an arms depot in the Harabesh neighborhood in the eastern city of Deir el-Zour. The Observatory, which relies on a network of local contacts in Syria, said U.S. bombing at a post near the town of Mayadeen killed another two fighters.
Tear gas, clashes as Lebanon protesters try to storm govt HQ (AP) Lebanese security forces Wednesday fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters, mainly retired soldiers, who tried to break through the fence leading to the government headquarters in downtown Beirut. The violence came amid widespread anger over the harsh economic conditions in the country, where mismanagement by the ruling class has been rampant for years, preceding the economic meltdown that started in late 2019. The protest was called for by retired soldiers and depositors who have had limited access to their savings after local banks imposed informal capital controls amid the crisis. The controls restrict cash withdrawals from accounts to avoid folding amid currency shortages. People with dollar accounts can only withdraw small sums in Lebanese pounds, at an exchange rate far lower than that of the black market. The Lebanese pound hit a new low on Tuesday, selling for more than 143,000 pounds to the dollar before making some gains. The pound has lost more than 95% of its value over the past three years. The official rate is 15,000 pounds to the dollar. “My monthly salary is $40. How can I survive,” screamed a retired army officer.
Ramadan begins in Mideast (AP) The first daily fast of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan began Thursday, as hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide enter a four-week period of worship. During the coming four weeks, hundreds of millions of Muslims will abstain from food and water from dawn to dusk, before gathering with family and friends for indulgent nighttime meals. According to Islam, fasting draws the faithful closer to God and reminds them of the suffering of the poor. In addition to fasting, charity giving is another of Islam’s five pillars. During Ramadan, mosques and charities regularly provide meals for the poor at long tables that sprawl out onto the street. Israeli and Palestinian leaders pledged this week to lower tensions as Ramadan begins, following months of deadly violence in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. This year, the fasting period coincides with the Jewish festival of Passover, spurring concern about fresh flare-ups with large numbers of Jewish and Muslim faithful expected to pour into Jerusalem’s Old City. From Gaza to Khartoum and Tunis to Sanaa, soaring prices are proving a further concern for those set to celebrate the occasion. Arab countries are continuing to suffer from the economic fallout of the war in Ukraine, with many reliant on grain imports from eastern Europe.
Israeli government lifts ban on return to West Bank settlements (Reuters) The Israeli parliament on Tuesday paved the way for Jewish settlers’ return to four settlements in the occupied West Bank by amending a 2005 law that ordered their evacuation, a move condemned by the Palestinian Authority and the European Union. Yuli Edelstein, head of the Israeli parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, hailed the move as “the first and significant step towards real repair and the establishment of Israel in the territories of the homeland that belongs to it”. Since the 1967 war, Israel has established around 140 settlements on land Palestinians see as the core of a future state, where more than 500,000 settlers now live. Besides the authorized settlements, groups of settlers have built scores of outposts without government permission.

UPDATED MASTERLIST (where I’ll be updating chapters) // the following post is outdated.
Something More - Series Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Sorcerer Geto x Non Sorcerer reader. Sorcerer Gojo x Non Sorcerer reader. Only one ship will prevail, and this is the story of Suguru being saved. It’s riddled with angst, it’s messy, and it’s so difficult, but it’s realistic.
Author’s Note: Pre Series: Hey all! We will be exploring themes of grief (all three characters will really go through it), jealousy, possible manipulation (done out of good intent, question mark), Satoru starting to learn about what connection beyond Jujutsu and Suguru is, the tide of darkness that threatens to overtake Suguru, what it takes to save Suguru, Satoru beginning to learn that he’s more than a weapon, and more. Satoru heavy in the beginning, Suguru heavy in the middle. Chapters will be lengthy, but it’s worth it. Hope you come along for the ride :) My second series will follow up with a new reader, and Satoru, and it will be a continuation of this story, but with different main characters.
Premise: Suguru never stopped loving you. He’d broken up with you, but that was to protect you. He wouldn’t involve you in his dangerous life anymore. One year later, and it’s evident that he’d still ruin himself for you, in every single way. After the breakup, you’ve become a curse magnet, and Suguru is distracted, worried. He keeps messing up in missions, seeing you in every civilian. He keeps leaving in the middle of training, just to watch you secretly from afar, exorcising those curses on your shoulders, making sure you’re okay. Satoru, on the other hand, is annoyed. He wants Suguru to get his head back in the game. Determined to figure out a solution to the problem of you, Satoru starts to secretly visit you at your workplace, the local cafe. He spends time with you, trying to figure out why curses flock around you. But Satoru gets an unexpected surprise, when he realizes he’s catching feelings for you, too.
Themes: Ego death. Coming back from a spiral through support, love, time, more. Non Defection AU (reader helps Geto through dark times), Geto is a teacher at Jujutsu Tech! // Learning that you’re more than what you were raised to be. Gojo doesn’t understand love *yet.* Gojo having a peak into a kind of human connection that goes beyond his conditioning. // Depictions of Grief, Angst, Jealousy, Betrayal, Reconnection, Developing Self-Identity and Dreams //
Tags: Geto was your loving ex. Reconnection. // Love Triangle, Slow burn, Eventual Sailed Ship // 21+ main characters (Riko and Haibara’s death is pushed back a few years)

What happened in Gothenburg, Sweden on July 29th 1965? A tale of three strange occurrences in Swedish criminal history.
It's a cold and rainy day in Gothenburg, Sweden, in July 1965. The friends Jan-Olof "Janne" Dahlsjö (21), Gay Roger Karlsson (22), and Kjell-Åke Johansson (16) are preparing for a camping trip to Åsa, approximately 45 kilometers south of Gothenburg. They are seen at a cafe in Gothenburg, before they get into a car, a midnight blue Volvo PV 444, and drive away, never to be seen again. This is commonly known in Sweden as "Dahlsjöfallet" ("The Dahlsjö Case").
Janne Dahlsjö was working for a maintenance company, and he lived in Haga, Gothenburg with his mother and his two younger brothers. He most likely left his home for the last time on the 28th of July. He left without his passport or seafarer's discharge book, and he also had a salary that he never went to pick up. He was very close friends with Gay Roger Karlsson. He was the owner of the Volvo PV that they disappeared in, despite not having a drivers license. Prior to the disappearance he had been talking about making a camping trip in Åsa.
Gay Roger Karlsson lived in a run down apartment block in Gothenburg, and had before the disappearance been having some trouble with the law. The same summer of 1965 he had been arrested for drunk driving and burglary. One of the last sightings of him was on the 28th or the 29th of July when he was helping a truck driver out on the street while he was visiting the Swedish Public Employment Service in central Gothenburg.
Kjell-Åke Johansson had despite his young age just become a father, and was at the time working for a company making surface treatments. His father was working for the same company. He had just a couple weeks prior to the disappearance gotten arrested for drunkenness at public place. The last known sighting of him by his family was made by his sister on the 27th or 28th of July. Just like Janne Dahlsjö, he had been speaking of going camping in Åsa the upcoming days.
Now, these three friends were not the only ones who disappeared in Gothenburg on that very day in 1965.
In Torekov, Scania, Sweden a young man named Hübner "Hymme" Lundqvist (18) leaves his parents summer home to travel to an art school north of Gothenburg. Whether he's taking the train or is hitchhiking is not known, but what is known is that he made it to Gothenburg. On the 29th of July he sends a post card from Gothenburg central station (which is known by information on the stamps on the card), telling his parents not to be worried about him. This is the last known trace of him.
Hymme Lundqvist was the son of the (in Sweden) quite famous artist Evert Lundqvist (1904-1994). They lived in the affluent area of Drottningholm, outside of Stockholm, being next-door neighbors with the castle where the King and the Queen of Sweden today live. Hymme was a man who was popular among the girls at his other school, but had been suffering from depression which he self medicated with alcohol and psychotropic drugs.
While not so much was written in the newspapers at the time about the three boys of the Dahlsjö case, the disappearance of Hymme Lundqvist was given more attention at the time. Maybe because of his family's socio-economic status.
However, these disappearances are still not the only strange things to happen in Gothenburg on this rainy day.
At 14:13 two armed Hungarian robbers storm Skandinaviska Banken ("The Scandinavian Bank"), a robbery that also will go down in history for it's unique circumstances. During the attempt there is an open and public freak-out causing one of the robbers to accidentally shoot himself in the leg. The robbers leave the bank with only a very small sum in cash, and run down to the nearby river where a third accomplice is hiding with oxygen cylinders. The escape plan was apparently to dive and swim down the river, and then leave in a boat waiting for them some distance away. Under the normal clothes the robbers wore wet suits. The escape failed however, as the public freak-out continued with people following them and throwing stones at them. They were eventually arrested, and convicted for the robbery. The robbery has gone down in Swedish crime history as "Grodmansrånet" (The Frog Man Robbery).

Photos @ Patrick Fredriksson (Gävle, Sweden 10/1/1990)
Fugazi, Cafe Q, Gävle, Sweden 10/1/1990 (FLS #0271) & Fugazi, Rock Lamour, Linköping, Sweden 10/2/1990 (FLS #0272)
Having played both Denmark and Norway before as early as 1988, Fugazi added Sweden to their European tour itinerary in the fall of 1990, playing just two dates there, before traveling to Poland for a couple of shows (another first).
Their first show in Sweden played out in Gävle, which happens to be the very first Swedish city some 200 kilometers north of Stockholm I got to know a bit myself when visiting newly-made friends and band members of the phenomenal nineties hardcore punk band Serene a couple of years down the line.
Rewind to October 1, 1990, as some 60 people gathered at Café Q to see Fugazi play 17 songs live. No less than 9 songs off of the Repeater album made this set list, followed by 4 off of Steady Diet of Nothing (at the time still unreleased), and 2 songs each off of the Margin Walker EP and debut 7 Songs EP.
As mentioned, Fugazi played a second show the next day, in Linköping, another provincial city some 400 kilometers south of Gävle. About 110 people are reported to have attended at Rock Lamour where Fugazi played a slightly longer set of 20 songs, with 9 tracks taken off of Repeater (with the exception of Brendan #1, the album is actually played in its entirety between these two concerts), 5 off of Steady Diet, 4 off of Margin Walker and another 2 off of 7 Songs.
What distinguishes these shows in Gävle and (even more so the one in) Linköping is the sheer joy that emanates from the stage. Actually, with the exception of the Richmond show in Virginia on October 7, 1987, I’d be hard pressed to recall another show where the band is clearly having so much fun as they did playing these two dates in Sweden.
Even though the Swedish audience appears still quite reticent with the exception of a couple of enthusiasts, the entire band continually tries to engage and tease its listeners with abundant banter and pleasantries, showing its appreciation for having a great time.
Case in point is the Latin Roots debut (”we’re gonna do a song we’ve never played before because we’re feeling so totally out of touch”). While the Steady Diet of Nothing album would not see its release until July 1991 and several of its future staples already had been played on a number of occasions and were shaping up nicely both musically and lyrically, the band clearly hadn’t figured out Latin Roots yet (“a song that’s not even really written yet”). Guy’s hallmark swirling opening guitar chords only cut in later here, and the band literally is open to suggestions on how to end the song. The lyrics are just three verses at this point, if that, and particularly striking is the different chorus towards the end of the song, as Ian appears to bellow “you greedy motherfucker” instead of “it’s time to meet your makers.”
Other highly enjoyable moments from the Gävle gig include Waiting Room (featuring a little singalong), Blueprint (“la-di-da, la-di-da-da”), the work in progress on Long Division (which features a bit of a bridge and different ending), or Reprovisional to close out the set.
The Linköping gig showcases some nice additional guitar licks going into Sieve-Fisted Find, a fun rendering of Waiting Room dubbed the “cooking room” (”cooking in the kitchen room, [tell me why] because they like to cook, come on and cook out!”), a truly unique version of Burning Too sung in Swedish by someone attending the show that goes by the name of Johanna Rosenqvist, a dude calling out for the band to play Promises or Waiting Room after the band already played these songs and Guy urging for him to “get with it”, a cool performance of Two Beats Off and another crushing Reprovisional run, a round of fuck yous leading into Runaway Return (with impromptu matching chorus), or expressions of love leading into Long Division (”hey, hey”).
The only thing that might keep me from revisiting these recordings on a regular basis, is the sound quality. While the recording of the second night comes out on top and provides some more up front vocals, I find the overall mix on both recordings is still rather erratic and at times muddled, which chips away at the pleasure of listening.
However, this should not keep anyone from checking out such incredibly fun and cool shows, especially since these portray the band members as most humorous individuals and not as gloomy, dead serious, ascetic monks they are sometimes made out to be.

Day 12. February 10, 2020. Te Anau day ride. 155km.
Woke to low 40's and gray which made me question the Carrot and Weather Channel apps which had shown 72° and sunny. But closer inspection revealed a marine type layer probably due to the massive lake's shores which was projected to burn off by 11. The kitchen came stocked with farm fresh eggs, bowl of assorted fruit, milk, butter, juice, yogurts, cereals. We set about making some eggs and toast and then of course after finishing off yesterday's blog we grabbed the two frisbees and the "golf course diagram" and headed out. A half life sized chess board on the sprawling manicured lawn provided the tee for the first hole. All the bikes were truck tires with the hole number painted on the rubber. Got to explore their grounds and have some fun tossing the 'bee. We then got into our GoreTex gear and headed towards Milford Sound after a CalTex has stop in town. Knowing we couldn't get to Milford due to road closures/flooding we were aiming for a swing bridge made of three cables. One for your feet and one for each of your hands that spanned the west branch of the Eglinton River. It was featured in one of the NZ touring books I had bought last summer. We saw that the trail sign to identify the turn off was the Earl Mountain turnoff and headed that way. We wound a bit away from the water and gained some elevation and then came to a construction zone. Not being sure if this was related to the recent flooding we got in mine behind a few cars and waited. Maybe less than ten minutes and the opposing truck, bus and camper passed us then we were allowed to proceed. Usually the 120km up to Milford takes over two hours due to the heavy traffic. Top tourist destination in NZ, one road in and out. Lots of buses and cars jockeying to get parking at the roadside attractions. One huge benefit of having the road closed about 75km ahead was that there was hardly any traffic! Great road and scenery as jagged Teton-esque peaks wound into view between the nearly sheer yet forested canyons as we gained elevation. After passing through a few more, wait, take a wild guess... sheep farms 🐑 we came to a diversion. Funneled into a lane off the road to what appeared to be a toll booth, explained to the gal we were in search of a cable bridge off the Earl Mtn. Trail before the closed section. She allowed us to pass. So far so good.
You can tell when you enter Fiordland NP. Sure, there's a sign off to the left (but placed behind a farmer's field/fence so inaccessible for a reasonable picture). But immediately farmland disappears and you are envelopes in the eery dense tunnel of what seems to be darned close to tropical forest. With the 21 feet of annual rainfall being lush shouldn't be a surprise but the immediate drop off in brightness is dramatic as well. Almost like going in a cave. There are some open "flats" but much of the area along the one road there is heavy forest. The other concern for vehicles but especially bikes involves the encroaching algae/moss on the roads. Two tire tracks are largely clear of it but the center of the lanes and the road as well are mostly a bit greenish with the slippery stuff. Lots of "slippery when wet" signage and it wasn't for the Bon Jovi album. I imagined it could be taxing to stay in the worn and clear tire tracks on one of the 250 rainy days. With clear blue sky and dry along with no traffic, the 55,65 and 75kph turns were superb sweepers and we had a ball carving up that road. One of the stops was at Mirror Lakes. Aptly names and even though a couple of fish had disturbed the surface, the pics are keepers. We rode up into Fiordland a ways and then there was the Earl Mtn. sign. We pulled in to the parking area and saw the line of yellow tape across the entrance to the trail. Also no other vehicles were there. The sign said it was closed and also had a few poison signs around the lot. They described the poison that was dangerous to animals and people to attempt (as is often done here) eradication of a non-native predator. In this case it seemed to be some sort of weasel that was endangering a bird that lived on the ground. We had discussed this cable swing bridge and yellow tape and warnings weren't gonna stop us! We worked around the tape and stepped into a dense forest trail. The first 10 minutes took us along an occasionally muddy trail. Tons of tree roots. Most of the deep mud had sticks or small logs tossed in to provide steps but a few ill advised steps resulted in 6" plunges and lovely boot pulling sucking noises to dislodge my Alpinestar SMX-6 from the muck. Then found my way down a thirty foot hill by treading solely on exposed tree roots from one tree! (Pic above) After that, following the well marked red triangular plastic blazes into the heart of Frodo land, the forest was a magic pliant spongy floor. It took a while to figure out that about 6-8" of moss has somehow grown over a network of interconnected tree roots. When I stepped, the entire ground in a five foot radius would give in and move a bit. It was weird and beautiful. After another 10' we heard the Eglinton River and were blocked by some fallen trees and yellow tape. A work around brought me to the river just above the cable swing bridge. A very large tree had fallen on the bridge from our side and collapsed it. Instead of a V shape, the 3 cables were mostly flat but still spanning the river. Ugh. No go. Managed to work our way with some difficulty through the dense brush to get close enough for a pic on the first rung of the bridge which was also the last possible one to reach due to the tree and damage. Pic above. There was a cute little bird on the ground by the bridge remnants. He seemed happy to see us. Wasn't afraid of people evidently as he strutted about watching us, walking under the branch I was balancing on without flying away. He seemed to enjoy company. Said goodbye to my new friend 🐦 and found the blazes trail which included a half dozen improvised detours to avoid deep muck. Scaled up the root ladder which must have been connected to Eywa as the whole forest seemed a bit magical. 🌳 One couple was following our lead to enter the forbidden enchanted forest as we exited. They were disappointed to hear the wire bridge was out. The entire trail from there is about a three hour hike.
I must comment that tons of serious hikers (trampers in local speak) come here and cover long distances. Temps are good. Views and scenery fantastic. None of those deadly spiders and snakes one may encounter across the Tasman Sea in Oz. I get it, just don't love hiking that much to spend days or weeks doing it. This area shows why Peter Jackson used it for LOTR. Nearly pristine and just overwhelmingly stunning. With boots and Klim pants properly mud coated, we were now sweating quite a bit. In fact while holding my Latitude jacket I believe I finally lost my first set of reading glasses on this ride. I have a couple spares but oh well. Think they fell out as I was scaling some of the hill or tree root sections. 👓 I opened up all the vents on my jacket and pants and started the bike to stand and let the 65° breeze do its job. Turned around a couple kilometers further at Lower Holyford Rd. as the heavy machinery was at work. Estimated repair on the sign said that the road would reopen on Friday, four days from now. We stopped a few times on the way back for scenic spots that were too good to pass by. One of the files above is the .gif of some chopper footage. Stopped to watch him load and fly away with a few tanks of what may have been fuel? Most likely bound for Milford Sound which was still isolated from the rest of the country's road system. On one of the last stops Ted must've not closed his bag since when we pulled into Te Anau town center his right saddlebag/pannier was open! Ba quick inventory revealed his polartec jacket and a plastic bag with a wipe were missing. The chain lube that Kiwi gave us as well as a helmet lock were still in the pannier. Those darned side opening clamshell designs! I said I'd get a table at the Ranch outside and wait for him to hopefully retrieve his stuff. I showed him how to flip up on the iPhone to reveal exactly where that last pic was taken. He was just putting on his helmet when a white car pulls up. A guy walks out and hands him his stuff! So lucky. They are bikers and saw his stuff and followed us into town. Nice. After some thank you a they drove away and the day got even brighter. The Ranch delivered me a couple Cokes and an interesting prawn twist dish. 8 shrimp individually wrapped in a long thin dough sheet and fried so the whole 8" long finger is edible and 3 sauces to dip accompanied the serving. Then a calamari salad. 😊 Back to the homestead for some blogging (so I won't fall asleep tonight trying to get this down) and rest before we scored a reservation at the top place in town. The Redcliff cafe. Ted was here last year and unable to get in! We rode to town and were walking down the street when Ted recognized the Aussies who returned his stuff at lunchtime. We turned around and flagged them down. They were perfectly willing to join us for a thank you beer and had a nice time talking with them. They were riders but here to scatter ashes of a friend up north and had received money and were encouraged to make a great trip out of it. They had been to Burt Munro as well. Our appointed hour arrived and we were seated on the back porch of the Redcliff cafe. A few tables of Americans nearby and some conversation with a California couple by us and an excellent meal. I had a salmon tartare dish followed by venison which was amazing and a date and ice cream dessert which were each remarkable. Redcliff did not disappoint. Probably the biggest culinary splurge of the trip. Even with a couple drinks my total ended up being just over $50 and it would've been 50% more for that same meal at home. Had a great evening and got back to the homestead in dusk around 10. Ready to roll northward tomorrow. 😴
