The original 206. I like both versions, for different reasons.
Can you imagine all the bugs? Those low hanging, never trimmed trees. The never mowed yard and fallen-down fence. An insect’s paradise.

today i handed in the keys for my very first classroom, room 206 in a nearly 200 year old convent house-turned catholic schoolhouse.
i will miss the wild cheers of the students as i tossed overshot balls back over the chainlink fence and onto the blacktop. i will miss my beautiful, classic classroom and our view of the bell tower. i will even miss the damp church-basement smell, the mother mary statues that the children swore were haunted, and hopping over rain puddles in the halls on days when it rained too hard. most of all, i will miss my wonderfully unique little class of six.
this year has not been easy in the slightest. teaching at a religious private school presented specific challenges for me, most notably pay and differences in religious ideology. in my unpaid overtime i painted a chapel, did janitorial work, and built my own curriculum from scratch, among other tasks.
and still-i cried and cried after the last child left my classroom at the end of our last day. the more that i poured myself-my time and my care- into my students, the more i came to love them. they will always hold a special place in my heart. i feel immense pride in them and in myself for the growth that we went through together this year and the “fortitude” (a word that i taught them) that it took to achieve. my most treasured relationships are the ones that took extra care and trust to build. it is an honor to watch a child face their personal challenges and flourish under your wing. i will miss them terribly. i can’t wait to do it all again.
amen.

4E 206 - part I: Bruma
(Me? Posting my writings? Unheard of.)
The year is 4E 206. After all the trouble with dragons, the civil war, an ancient dragonborn and rampant vampires and so on, Listener Kajo has decided to focus on what is really important to her: The Dark Brotherhood. It is about time to begin proper rebuilding, spreading back into other provinces, and what could be the better place to start than Cyrodiil, the center most province of Tamriel. Surprisingly, Cicero wishes to tag along, eagerly offering his help once again, and who is Kajo to deny his wishes. He is the last remaining member of the Cyrodiilic Brotherhood, after all, and knows the secrets of the old Sanctuaries better than anyone else.
And of course, who else she would even want to bring into new adventures with her?
---
Bruma looked almost exactly as Cicero remembered it; Small, quiet, a bit rugged due to its location up in the mountains, but somehow quite homely. The walls surrounding the town were still somewhat damaged by the war that had ravaged around the province, but masons were busy setting the new stones, and life seemed to continue as normal. It was nostalgic, really, walking down the streets of Bruma again, just looking around and seeing if anything interesting from the past waited around the next corner. The houses did look exactly as Cicero remembered them, but it was funny to him notice how similar they looked to the houses back in Skyrim. Made sense, though, since many Nords favored this little town right by the border between Cyrodiil and Skyrim. Not too far from home for them.
“It really hasn’t changed much,” Kajo pointed out as they sat down on a stone fence by the market area, wanting to eavesdrop on people for a bit. “Or at least I don’t think so, but I only visited very briefly before crossing the border.”
“Not too much,” Cicero chuckled, nodding in agreement. It had been much longer for him since his last visit. Fifteen or so years, closer to twenty now! Yes indeed, he had been in his very early twenties when moving to Cheydinhal. “Bruma is very much the same as Cicero remembers it!”
“Have you seen any familiar faces?” Kajo asked curiously, wondering if people from Cicero’s childhood still lived here. The jester thought for a bit, furrowing his brows deeply as he stared at the people wandering around the market area.
“The current stablemaster looked quite familiar,” he scrathed his head then, humming in thought. “Cicero thinks he might be the son of the master I used to work for a short bit after getting kicked out.” The kind stablemaster let young Cicero stay in his barn for a while, even gave him food, only asked him to help with the horses in exchange. Not his favorite job, but it did lead to a fateful night when he killed a fellow teen who he had thought to be a horse thief and even got away with it, no one ever finding out what exactly happened. Well, except for the Dark Brotherhood, that is how they found Cicero and invited him into their family. Oh, how he fondly reminiscenced that night, how he found his passion!
“But he did not seem to recognize Cicero at all!” the jester suddenly exclaimed sorrowfully, sniffling in such a manner that Kajo instantly knew him to be faking his grief. “Cicero has gotten old, that is why! No one recognizes his wrinkly face!”
The bosmer snorted amusedly and slapped his thigh playfully, to which he giggled stupidly. “Maybe you have some wrinkles, but you are that not old, silly!” Kajo said, shaking her head.
“Maybe not really, but Cicero sure feels like it!” Cicero shrugged. He had been through so much it felt like at least two lifetimes, and he was only barely 40! The same age as Kajo, yes, but age worked differently for mer, as she would live at least hundred years longer than him. “It feels almost like a thousand years have passed since I’ve been here.”
All things considered, knowing Cicero’s story, Kajo didn’t continue arguing and only nodded. Right,” she said, resting her head against his shoulder and felt Cicero lean towards her a little, accepting this little show of affection. “How are you feeling, though?” the bosmer decided to change the subject a little, worrying that being here might be bringing back unpleasant memories. He didn’t seem uncomfortable at the moment, but it was sometimes difficult to tell with him and Kajo wanted to be sure.
After thinking about his answer for a bit, Cicero nodded. “I’m doing fine,” he admitted. “Bruma is not too bad. Cicero has memories here that he isn’t too fond of, but… not too bad. Quite funny to be back, even if just for a bit!”
“That’s good,” Kajo smiled widely, feeling relieved for now, although the slight bit of worry would probably never leave. “But do tell me if something is feels too much.”
“Cicero will!”
--
“There isn’t much left here,” Kajo sighed disappointedly as they cautiously rummaged through the old Sanctuary. A lof of it had been completely burned to ashes nearly twenty years ago, as Cicero had already told her, but Kajo hoped to find something, anything. But the damage of the fire that had once ravaged here was bad, and clearing the place would take forever and perhaps too much coin to do it discreetingly without rousing any suspisions in the town. Having been sealed away from the outside world for so long, the blackened walls still smelled of fire and ash, already causing Kajo’s head to hurt. Bruma would be a wonderful location, but this was a little too much to deal with.
“Cicero told the Listener,” the jester said as he kicked an old piece of charred wood out of his way, melancholically wandering around the old hall. There was a slight sting to his heart as he looked around and remembered that day. He had been out on a contract when raiders or soldiers – whoever, it didn’t really matter – managed to find their way into the Sanctuary and burned everything down, killing everyone within. He should call himself lucky, but it didn’t feel right. Such a tragedy and it felt sad to be walking these halls again, not being greeted by his dear dark siblings, many whose faces he couldn’t remember clearly anymore, faded over the years. “Nearly everything burned. Cicero did manage to save some old records and brought them with him to Cheydinhal. But other than those, I found nothing.”
Only the scorched corpses once the fire had calmed down enough, which he had carefully gathered to the tomb… gave them the best burial he could. Thinking about it hurt. Really, really hurt.
Kajo noted the jester’s sudden silence, and gave him a quick glance and saw him struggling to remain composed. He was on the verge of tears, she could see it, having hard time pushing aside the memory of that day. His family, a family that finally felt like one, gone in just a moment and he couldn’t do a thing about it. Life was unfair.
“Cicero.”
Kajo’s gentle voice snapped the jester out of his thoughts, and he saw her standing right by him now, tenderly touching his arm. He opened his mouth to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out; he didn’t really know what to say without breaking down. Instead, he reached for Kajo’s hand and held onto it tightly. She smiled softly and rubbed his hand with her thumb. “It’s alright. I think I’ve seen enough, we don’t have to say.”
There was nothing for them here, it was alright to move on, especially since it was causing the jester a great deal of sorrow. Something Kajo had feared.
Yes, this place was nothing but a reminder of the death of so many who had once been important to him, but regardless Cicero fought with himself, wanting to be helpful and keep digging, but at the same time knew that he shouldn’t be here, that it was too much. He nodded weakly then, tears finally forcing themselves out and he let them fall, and Kajo reached to wipe them away with her cape.
--
“How are you feeling?” Kajo asked, watching Cicero with worried eyes. They had settled in for the night at a local inn, and although Cicero busied himself with his usual evening routine of helping the Listener get out of her leather armor and writing in his journal, he felt off. He was so awfully quiet ever since they left the Bruma Sanctuary and for a good reason, really, and Kajo worried for him. She already felt terrible for dragging him along on this journey, even if he had suggested it. She did love his company more than anything, but making him face the past that still causes pain felt wrong. And Bruma was just the beginning, in Cheydinhal he could potentially face his biggest trauma.
Laying on the bed, Cicero sighed and rubbed his face, but turned his head to look at his lover then. He didn’t know how to put into words what he was feeling at the moment, as his thoughts were a mess, but he did give her a small, melancholic smile, which told Kajo more than a thousand words could. He was feeling upset, raw, hurting, but still tried to retain his usual cheerful self. Kajo tenderly smiled back at him and crawled onto the bed, snuggling against his side to remind him that he was not alone in this.
“I’m sorry,” Kajo said quietly after a bit, drawing circles on Cicero’s chest with her finger. “I’m sorry for everything you have been through and for putting you into this situation.”
Cicero looked at Kajo, a bit puzzled. “Listener needs not to apologize for anything!” He said then, shaking his head fervently. “Cicero knew what he signed up for!” He had known that this wouldn’t be an easy journey to make and had tried to mentally prepare himself for it, but… well, it was difficult to predict what it would be like to be faced directly with such sad memories. “Cicero is in his head a little now, but he is fine. Sad, I admit and I’m sure Listener can tell, but I will be fine. Cicero will be fine as long as Kajo is with him.”
Kajo sighed and lifted her head to properly look the imperial in the eyes. He looked quite miserable, yes, eyes red from crying and like he needed a very long nap, yet still he seemed determined to continue with her. She watched him for a bit, but leaned down to press a small kiss to the tip of his nose then, smiling when she pulled away and was met with his usual goofy smile.
“You can always tell me if something is too much, okay?” Kajo reminded him once more. “I want nothing but happiness for you and don’t want to put you through situations that hurt you. There have already been enough of those.”
“Cicero knows,” the jester nodded, looking a bit more joyful now, and pushed hair behind Kajo’s elongated ear. How she cared so much for him and his wellbeing made his heart thud with so much joy he could sing about it. But not now, he was too tired for that. Right now it was enough to just get to hold her close. “I want to be here and help the Listener, but I will. I will tell you if something is wrong.”
“Good!” Kajo chuckled and smiled widely, giving him another little kiss, on the lips this time. “Now, we should get some rest. We have a long trek ahead of us tomorrow.”

ASOS; Steel and Snow: 17 ARYA III (pages 227-235)
Arya experiences a betrayal on the road to (not) Riverrun.
-
On the morning of the third day, Arya noticed that the moss was growing mostly on the wrong side of the trees. "We're going the wrong way," she said to Gendry, as they rode past an especially mossy elm. "We're going south. See how the moss is growing on the trunk?"
Y'all need a compass. I mean, I assume a compass would work in Westeros. From what I understand, there is a 'curtain of light' or something further north of the Wall, deep in the Lands Of Always Winter, which I'm pretty sure is an aurora.
Auroras Borealis and Australis are formed when sun particles get dragged by the Earth's magnet poles into clusters and interact with stuff in the atmosphere, which suggests that there is a magnetic pole to the north of the Wall, so a compass should work. If they have the tech, which they shouuuu... how old are magnetic compasses? Google says the Chinese circa 206 BCE, so magnetic compasses are roughly 2200 years old. Cool Beans. But also if Yi Ti is Generic Fantasy Ancient Asia, then even if the Maesters didn't steal the tech, it should be around. ... who wants to tell me there's been at least one mention of a compass in the books thus far and I've just forgotten?
Telling Harwin would be almost like telling her father and there were some things that she could not bear having her father know.
Oh that came for my feels. ... now the question is: will Harwin live long enough to pass the information of Arya's survival on at a critical time?
...Harwin catching Arya up like. That's for giving us backstory, I appreciate it, but also don't add to Arya's trauma? Did you need the details about the arm chopping? I suppose it's kind of bonding, for them to swap stories, reconnect, what connection there is.
Arya was sucking the last bit of meat off a wing when one of the villagers turned to Lem Lemoncloak and said, "There were men through here not two days past, looking for the Kingslayer."
Lemon(cloak) = 🥛
She dreamt of home; not Riverrun, but Winterfell. It was not a good dream, though. She was alone outside the castle, up to her knees in mud. She could see the grey walls ahead of her, but when she tried to reach the gates every step seemed harder than the one before, and the castle faded before her, until it looked more like smoke tan granite. And there were wolves as well, gaunt grey shapes stalking through the trees all around her, their eyes shining. Whenever she looked at them, she remembered the taste of blood.
working through stuff, or visions = 🥛
I am going to count this one, just because, even knowing that it works as a vision because I know Arya's path doesn't lie towards Winterfell (yet), it also works as an expression of her anxiety and frustration over the fact that no matter how far she travels, she never seems to get closer to home or safety, like something is dragging her back every struggling step of the way. There's always something that stops her from making measurable, sustained progress. You really could interpret this one either way. It's been a bit since we've had a dream that's so on the fence about whether it's one or the other.
... The Betrayal!!!
... Run Arya, Run!!!
She knew the fight was done. "You ride like a northman, milady," Harwin said when he'd drawn them to a halt. "Your aunt was the same. Lady Lyanna. But my father was master of horse, remember." The look she gave him was full of hurt. "I thought you were my father's man." "Lord Eddard's dead, milady. I belong to the lightning lord now, and to my brothers."
Poor Arya. Jon and Sansa both had a thing going on with allies (temporary and false) which I think I commented was a theme running through those few chapters with Arya and Dany as well, but those were newly met. I did remember from the show where Arya's path was going (in the more immediate) but I didn't think it would come directly from Harwin. The betrayal.
"- He has an army all his own, and many lords bend the knee. The smallfolk only have us."
Urgh, this series! Let me be angry at some one for a change! let it be simple and uncomplicated "this person did a shitty thing and is Bad." But noooo, GRRM is all about the complexity. More layers than an onion. Nuance and motivations.
No, no, I get it. Sadly, even though he's betraying Arya's trust here, he's one of the few still fighting for the smallfolk. Goodness knows the kings and their armies have stopped giving a shit... if they gave one to begin with.
She had been better off as Squab. No one would take Squab captive, or Nan, or Weasel, or Arry the orphan boy. I was a wolf, she thought, but now I'm just a stupid little lady again.
I mean, they were all captives, that was a pretty significant thing that happened. Mmm, more identity stuffs for Arya. comparing her freedom in false identities to the fact that it's her core identity which has her in trouble in the first place, add that shake up with her core identity from a few chapters back, I'm not going to be surprised if she attempts to - ah right, House of Black and White and "becoming No-one." No surprise about it, she literally does attempt to reject her core identity at a future point.

Chapter 206: Stars and Oil, Part 2
// SPOILER WARNING!!! DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE CHAPTER YET.
Opening words: "Kenjaku expands his domain against Tsukumo. But Tsukumo and Tengen have a plan to overcome this crisis—?"
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "Kenjaku's goal is the Tomb of the Star, where my main body resides."
An off translation by Viz. The whole sentence just sounds weird af.
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "You both will take him on... in a room of interconnecting maze right above this place."
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "It's important for Kenjaku to think that. He needs to think that this space is comfortable and advantageous to him. That way, he will stay within the barrier. Ultimately, I am the master of the Sunyata barrier. So start the battle inside the Sunyata barrier and have Kenjaku expand his domain."
"Sunyata barrier" is a term that TCB Scans decided to go with, so I'm just reinforcing it. [[Tbh Idk what's the best translation, and I trust TCB Scans more than the official one, so.]]
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "As its master, whatever information within the barrier is visible to me. I'll analyze Kenjaku's domain, and insert a setting to neutralize the vector parameters of the domain, through the Sunyata barrier."
Tumblr media
》 Yuki: "In other words, I cannot use my domain during those 10 seconds. I need to fight against Kenjaku using a simple domain so that I won't burn out my cursed technique."
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "Besides, Kenjaku may preserve his cursed technique and counter your domain with Simple Domain or Hollow Wicker Basket." 》 Yuki: "Against real domains, those tactics can only buy us time. Am I being underestimated that much?"
Tumblr media
》 Tengen: "I've said it many times, Kenjaku is one of the few who can use the barrier techniques on par with me. Even his simple domain is on different level compared to other sorcerers."
Tumblr media
》 Kenjaku (mockingly): "Did you really think such level of technique could withstand my domain?"
Tumblr media
》 Kenjaku: "If you had at least used your own domain against mine, the outcome wouldn't have been this boring. It's your fault for trusting *that. Tengen is keeping an important secret from all of you."
*that = The written kanji is 天元 (Tengen), but the furigana reads アレ (that).
Tumblr media
》 Kenjaku: "You probably wanted to catch me off-guard.. but you should've used your head a bit more."
Closing words: "A big brother ambush, he aims with tenacity!!!"
My thoughts:
Yuki Tsukumo, Yuki Tsukumo, Yuki Tsukumo. AH, WHAT A CHAPTER. She has proven her title as a Special-Grade, and I can see her fanbase increasing wef this chapter. Won't be surprised if Maki stans flock to her too ahahah. I'm beyond amazed, tbh, but this is what I'd expect from bruzzer Todo's sensei! Let's hope she doesn't get offed within the next few chapters. My biggest prayer goes to Choso-niichan though. 🤧
With 206, ONCE AGAIN the takeaway is that all Domain Expansions do have a barrier and this confirms that not only Sukuna's but Kenjaku's DE, too, are not "barrierless".
DISCLAIMER: I may be wrong about the whole thing but this is how I've understood things so far...
The term used for "barrier" in this series have always been 結界 (kekkai). And FYI, there were a few times too that the same kanji was used for "colony". Although the EN translations have settled on "barrier" for kekkai, the term, in my opinion, is closer to a subspace. I think by default they're closed up like a dome to conceal everything within – refer to Gojo's and Mahito's DE outer shell, and Kenjaku's barriers in the Culling Game colonies. In case anyone confuses these barriers with hard walls that bar passage or fences that block people's way, that isn't the case since anyone can pass through them. Note that the purpose of Tengen's barriers around Jujutsu High, for instance, is to hide the location of the Jujutsu schools but anyone can still enter and exit the area, so they aren't necessarily walls that block passage. Same thing with Tengen's barriers in the room of the maze, anyone can come in and out of it. But then, in the case of barriers that Kenjaku constructed for the colonies, we learn that the user can place conditions to prevent people from leaving (reminds ya of DE condition too right) or allowing a one-time chance for the people within to leave. The barrier in the Tomb of the Star prevent anyone from entering unless they're permitted (much like the curtain that Juzo put up at the Kyoto Goodwill Event, which denies Gojo's entry) etc. This is a more advanced level of barrier technique application. Now as far as I recall, curtains are the only techniques that were used (most of the time) to trap people inside or keep others out. That's how it's been going on until the mention of Kenjaku's barriers for Culling Game. Anyways, I'm gonna do another round of re-reading of the series so I might talk about these again next time :D
Back to the domains of Kenjaku and Sukuna, both have a barrier like every other complete DEs, hence the guaranteed-hit effect is there. But the exception is that the barrier isn't closed (Imma call it an "open DE" for now). I assume by being unclosed it means their DEs are not enveloped or enclosed like in a dome – i.e. their targets will not be contained/trapped inside the beautiful or hideous constructed reality of a domain. Their DEs are directly manifested onto reality and the target gets an open, escape route (whelp, we know they ain't finna make it 99.9% of the time; they'll just die in seconds). Just like Malevolent Shrine, I assume there's also Binding Vow in Ken's Womb Profusion. It could be an increased attack-range like Sukuna's, or an entirely different buff, no one knows. Well I really hope Greg will give us more information with regards to these "divine" DEs soon, since now we've seen two already. Oh yeah, I noticed the so-called backbone-like structures in both domains, as well as in Megumi's recentmost DE, and I saw those theories about these constructions serving as possibly a.. central point..? In Kenjaku's case, it's the tree of bodies or whatchamacallit, whereas for Sukuna, it's the shrine, and as for Megumi, it's that vertebrae-looking thingy (although it's never stated that Megumi's DE is an open concept like those two goats, all theory). Some readers also speculated that based on what Tengen did in 206, one can dispel a DE with an unclosed barrier by destroying the central structure. For now, it's anyone's guess.
Despite their miscalculation, hats off to Tengen for being able to work their way around to dispel Kenny's DE. Going off the assumption that the point where the domain's guaranteed-hit effect ends is the barrier's edge is some think-on-your-feet stuff, and I like that quick thinking! Not surprising how Tengen saw Sukuna's DE since she's the master of the barriers in and around Japan thus whatever that happens inside are visible to her. Still, why did you choose not to interfere and help the others out while the chaos was unfolding in Shibuya, Ms Thumb? Most importantly, I'm still in suspense wanting to know what Tengen has been hiding from the group! I mean, I've always had a smol suspicion over Ms Thumb, but y'know it's irritating when your suspicions might be proven right. I'm truly glad Yuki is not a villain 'cause she was on my radar too lol – DON'T COME AT ME HAHAH – phew, one worry down!

People are being so damn quick to jump to the "The Calloways are probably doing what is right!" bandwagon... Like EXU Calamity wasn't at least partially about how the road to hell is paved in good intentions...
Like, I believe Fearne's parents, I honestly do, and I think the courts where wrong to not listen to them, but I also can see their state making them very easy to manipulate by anyone who would seemingly offer them help...
I am on the fence-- Like, I know in who I believe in, but I don't know I trust HOW they are dealing with it...

The best piece of foreshadowing in ASoIaF is that flashback Arya has to when Robb lured them into the Winterfell crypts and Jon burst out of one of the graves, covered in flour and Sansa just bolted away! Just fucked right off!!
A great foreshadowing to how that girl would survive a horror movie... And then she did...

Since I rated zitti e buoni last year it's time to look at the final performance of Stefania according to the official Winning Song Guidelines, aka the Love, Love, Peace, Peace Ranking. Let's go
Get everyone's attention
starting with the harmonies straight away 1/1
Drums! There has to be drums, +1 for gorgeous topless men and/or a grandmother
Sadly no drums or topless men or gradnmothers in sight 0/2
Using an old traditional folklore instrument, +1 for an old man, +1 if he has a beard
They had some kind of flute and plenty of beards, not all ages are clearly definable but we're gonna go with a fail on that one 2/3
A violin
Not a violin exactly but a contrabass 0.5/1
Add A DJ who pretends to scratch
No DJ but we'll give half credits for the breakdancer & rapping 0.5/1
Costumes, something that the viewers will notice
The pink hat alone nailed that one 1/1
The song is about love or peace
A mother's love and love for their home country during war times definitely works 1/1
6/10 for the technical parts so let's look at execution
Let the song beginn with passion
Enough said 1/1
Let the wind begin to flow
No wind machines on stage 0/1
Look into the TV camera
Hard to tell with the hat but there's some definite stares 1/1
Smile
No smiles this time 0/1
Fill the stage with light
Lights coming from all directions, even the floor 1/1
Dancers will join us
The dancers are there from the beginning but there's definitely dancers 1/1
Old women baking bread
No fresh bread on stage 0/1

13 June 2024: Hawker (population 350)
Below might have some inaccuracies!! There was SO much information, I’ll just do my best - and make up the rest!!!
I will post quite a few photos of our flight over Wilpena Pound and parts of the Flinders and up to Lake Eyre, because there was so much information passed on to us by the pilot. Corey was our pilot. Young and friendly and a good pilot and he was a mine of information. The problem is, the area is so vast, simple cameras just can’t take it in!! So most of the photos will be nameless, as I went click click click.
Our flight took us over Wilpena Pound and north past Leigh Creek and Lyndhurst and Maree. I have a photo of Maree Man (a geoglyph) but it hasn’t synced from my iPhone yet. Maree Man is a bit of a mystery, and there have been lots of stories about mysterious beings. I think the reality is it appeared between May and June 1998, most likely with heavy machinery and most likely by American personnel at Woomera. OR a man from Maree called Bardius Goldberg, who makes things that are visible from space. Many people believe he must have been made using GPS. Maree man’s outline has been enhanced with calcium line so it is easier to see. He can only be seen by air and is 3.5 km from top to bottom, extending over an are of 620 acres. Whoever made him remains a mystery. BUT HE APPEARED IN 1998.
The rest of the flight was filled with the realisation that this part of Australia is VAST and you can’t see the end of it even from the air. Lake Eyre covers 9,700 sq km and is the 4th largest terminal (with no outlet, because it sits at the lowest point below sea level in Australia, leading to high salinity levels) lake in the world. The water has stopped flowing in and the evaporation level is high, so the lake is receding quickly, leaving vast areas of salt. When full, it is nearly 1/6th of Australia (apparently).
So on this 6 hour flight - with a stopover at William Creek Pub on the Oodnadatta Track, for lunch - flew over Wilpena Pound, Heyson’s Ridge (Hans Heysen described the Flinders as “the bones of the earth laid bare”), Lake Torrens, Rawnsley Bluff, Andamooka (owned by the Indigenous Kokotha Pastoral Co and home to apparently the best opals in Australia - population 260; used to be 2000), Leigh Creek, the Leigh Creek copper and coal mines. The coal mine ceased to operate in 2025 and restoration has been planned but nowhere near completed), Lyndhurst , Maree, Stuart Creek Station, Anna Creek Station (the largest cattle station in the world, 24,000 sq km, running between 10 and 17,000 cattle). We landed at William Creek on the Oodnadatta Track and had lunch at the William Creek Hotel. Then back in the Cessna 206 Stationair (!) and headed back, over Dalhunty Island, named after a couple called Dalhunty who would, canoe to the island and monitor bird lifemore lake, more salt, the rabbit proof fence, the Warburton Groove (the water course leading into lake Eyre, fed by rivers in Qld, including the Diamentina and Georgina Rivers), Woomera, more mountains and valleys!!!
It was a day of learning (and forgetting!) but a reminder just how ENORMOUS Australia is and how impossible it seems that people came out with little or no or the wrong information and little equipment and even less knowledge and tried to make a life for themselves.
I will post the photos separately because Imhave lost a whole screed a couple of times when posting photos.
Good night!

Name and Origin
he specific term for the esoteric or mystic doctrine concerning God and the universe, asserted to have come down as a revelation to elect saints from a remote past, and preserved only by a privileged few. At first consisting only of empirical lore, it assumed, under the influence of Neoplatonic and Neopythagorean philosophy, a speculative character. In the geonic period it is connected with a Mishnah-like text-book, the "Sepher Yeẓirah," and forms the object of the systematic study of the elect, called "meḳubbalim" or "ba'ale ha-ḳabbalah" (possessors of, or adepts in, the Cabala). These receive afterward the name of "maskilim" (the wise), after Dan 12,10; and because the Cabala is called חכמה נסתרה ("Cḥokmah Nistarah" = the hidden Wisdom), the initials of which are חן, they receive also the name of יודעי חן ("adepts in grace") (Eccl. ix. 11, Hebr.). From the thirteenth century onward the Cabala branched out into an extensive literature, alongside of and in opposition to the Talmud. It was written in a peculiar Aramaic dialect, and was grouped as commentaries on the Torah, around the Zohar as its holy book, which suddenly made its appearance.
The Cabala is divided into a theosophical or theoretical system, Ḳabbalah Iyyunit (קבלה עיונית) and a theurgic or practical Cabala (קבלה מעשית). In view of the fact that the name "Cabala" does not occur in literature before the eleventh century (see Landauer, "Orient. Lit." vi. 206; compare Zunz, "G. V." p. 415), and because of the pseudepigraphic character of the Zohar and of almost all the cabalistic writings, most modern scholars, among whom are Zunz, Grätz, Luzzatto, Jost, Steinschneider, and Munk (see bibliography below), have treated the Cabala with a certain bias and from a rationalistic rather than from a psychologico-historical point of view; applying the name of "Cabala" only to the speculative systems which appeared since the thirteenth century, under pretentious titles and with fictitious claims, but not to the mystic lore of the geonic and Talmudic times. Such distinction and partiality, however, prevent a deeper understanding of the nature and progress of the Cabala, which, on closer observation, shows a continuous line of development from the same roots and elements.
Meaning of the word Cabala
Cabala comprised originally the entire traditional lore, in contradistinction to the written law (Torah), and therefore included the prophetic and hagiographic books of the Bible, which were supposed to have been "received" by the power of the Holy Spirit rather than as writings from God's hand (see Ta'an. ii. 1; R. H. 7a, 19a, and elsewhere in the Talmud; compare Zunz, "G. V." 2d ed., pp. 46, 366, 415, and Taylor, "Early Sayings of the Jewish Fathers," 1899, pp. 106 et seq., 175 et seq.). Each "received" doctrine was claimed as tradition from the Fathers—"masoret me-Abotenu" (Josephus, "Ant." xiii. 10, § 6; 16, § 2; Meg. 10b; Sheḳ. vi. 1)—to be traced back to the Prophets or to Moses on Sinai (compare "meḳubbalani" in Peah ii. 6; 'Eduy. viii. 7). So the Masorah, "the fence to the Torah" (Ab. iii. 13) is, as Taylor (l.c. p. 55) correctly states, "a correlation to Cabala." The chief characteristic of the Cabala is that, unlike the Scriptures, it was entrusted only to the few elect ones; wherefore, according to IV Esdras xiv. 5, 6, Moses, on Mount Sinai, when receiving both the Law and the knowledge of wondrous things, was told by the Lord: "These words shalt thou declare, and these shalt thou hide." Accordingly the rule laid down for the transmission of the cabalistic lore in the ancient Mishnah (Ḥag. ii. 1) was "not to expound the Chapter of Creation ("Ma'aseh Bereshit," Gen. i.) before more than one hearer; nor that of the Heavenly Chariot ("Merkabah," Ezek. i.; compare I Chron. xxviii. 18 and Ecclus. [Sirach] xlix. 8) to any but a man of wisdom and profound understanding"; that is to say, cosmogony and theosophy were regarded as esoteric studies (Ḥag. 13a). Such was the "Masoret ha-Ḥokmah" (the tradition of wisdom, handed over by Moses to Joshua (Tan., Wa'etḥanan, ed. Buber, 13); and likewise the twofold philosophyof the Essenes, "the contemplation of God's being and the origin of the universe," specified by Philo ("Quod Omnis Probus Liber," xii.). Besides these there was the eschatology—that is, the secrets of the place and time of the retribution and the future redemption (Sifre, Wezot ha-Berakah, 357); "the secret chambers of the behemoth and leviathan" (Cant. R. i. 4); the secret of the calendar ("Sod ha-'Ibbur")—that is, the mode of calculating the years with a view to the Messianic kingdom (Ket. 111a-112a; Yer. R. H. ii. 58b); and, finally, the knowledge and use of the Ineffable Name, also "to be transmitted only to the saintly and discreet ones" (Ẓenu'im or Essenes; Ḳid. 71a; Yer. Yoma iii. 40d; Eccl. R. iii. 11), and of the angels (Josephus, "B. J." ii. 8, § 7). All these formed the sum and substance of the Mysteries of the Torah, "Sitre or Raze Torah" (Pes. 119a; Meg. 3a; Ab. vi. 1), "the things spoken only in a whisper" (Ḥag. 14a).
Antiquity of the Cabala
How old the Cabala is, may be inferred from the fact that as early a writer as Ben Sira warns against it in his saying: אין לך עסק בנסתרות = "Thou shalt have no business with secret things" (Ecclus. [Sirach] iii. 22; compare Ḥag. 13a; Gen. R. viii.). In fact, the apocalyptic literature belonging to the second and first pre-Christian centuries contained the chief elements of the Cabala; and as, according to Josephus (l.c.), such writings were in the possession of the Essenes, and were jealously guarded by them against disclosure, for which they claimed a hoary antiquity (see Philo, "De Vita Contemplativa," iii., and Hippolytus, "Refutation of all Heresies," ix. 27), the Essenes have with sufficient reason been assumed by Jellinek ("B. H." ii., iii., Introductions and elsewhere), by Plessner ("Dat Mosheh wi-Yehudit," pp. iv. 47 et seq.), by Hilgenfeld ("Die Jüdische Apokalyptik," 1857, p. 257), by Eichhorn ("Einleitung in die Apoc. Schriften des Alten Testaments," 1795, pp. 434 et seq.), by Gaster ("The Sword of Moses," 1896, Introduction), by Kohler ("Test. Job," in Kohut Memorial Volume, pp. 266, 288 et seq.), and by others to be the originators of the Cabala.
That many such books containing secret lore were kept hidden away by the "wise" is clearly stated in IV Esdras 14,45-46, where Pseudo-Ezra is told to publish the twenty-four books of the canon openly that the worthy and the unworthy may alike read, but to keep the seventy other books hidden in order to "deliver them only to such as be wise" (compare Dan. xii. 10); for in them are the spring of understanding, the fountain of wisdom, and the stream of knowledge (compare Soṭah xv. 3). A study of the few still existing apocryphal books discloses the fact, ignored by most modern writers on the Cabala and Essenism, that "the mystic lore" occasionally alluded to in the Talmudic or Midrashic literature (compare Zunz, "G. V." 2d ed., pp. 172 et seq.; Joël, "Religionsphilosophie des Sohar," pp. 45-54) is not only much more systematically presented in these older writings, but gives ample evidence of a continuous cabalistic tradition; inasmuch as the mystic literature of the geonic period is only a fragmentary reproduction of the ancient apocalyptic writings, and the saints and sages of the tannaic period take in the former the place occupied by the Biblical protoplasts, patriarchs, and scribes in the latter.
Cabalistic Elements in the Apocrypha.
So, also, does the older Enoch book, parts of which have been preserved in the geonic mystic literature (see Jellinek, l.c., and "Z. D. M. G." 1853, p. 249), by its angelology, demonology, and cosmology, give a fuller insight into the "Merkabah" and "Bereshit" lore of the ancients than the "Hekalot," which present but fragments, while the central figure of the Cabala, Meṭaṭron-Enoch, is seen in ch. lxx.-lxxi. in a process of transformation. The cosmogony of the Slavonic Enoch, a product of the first pre-Christian century (Charles, "The Book of the Secrets of Enoch," 1896, p. xxv.), showing an advanced stage compared with the older Enoch book, casts a flood of light upon the rabbinical cosmogony by its realistic description of the process of creation (compare ch. xxv.-xxx. and Ḥag. 12a et seq.; Yer. Ḥag. ii. 77a et seq.; Gen. R. i.-x.). Here are found the primal elements, "the stones of fire" out of which "the Throne of Glory" is made, and from which the angels emanate; "the glassy sea" (מייא מייא), beneath which the seven heavens, formed of fire and water (שמים = מאש ומים), are stretched out, and the founding of the world upon the abyss (אבן שתיה); the preexistence of human souls (Plato, "Timæus," 36; Yeb. 63b; Nid. 30b), and the formation of man by the Creative Wisdom out of seven substances (see Charles, note to ch. xxvi. 5 and xxx. 8, who refers to Philo and the Stoics for analogies); the ten classes of angels (ch. xx.); and, in ch. xxii., version A, ten heavens instead of seven, and an advanced chiliastic calendar system (ch. xv.-xvi., xxxii.; see Millennium). Its cabalistic character is shown by references to the writings of Adam, Seth, Cainan, Mahalalel, and Jared (ch. xxxiii. 10, and elsewhere).

Day 206
February 24, 2023
The workday opened with a virtual FEMA All-hands meeting about transitioning applicants:
A Program Delivery Manager (PDMG) is the applicant’s primary point of contact, so when the PDMG has to leave, they must transfer the applicant to another PDMG.
The new Program Delivery Manager must be brought up to speed before taking on the applicant; this process typically takes 3-5 days for a small project and 5-7 days for a more complex project. Approval from higher-ups must be granted to transition major applicants/very large projects.
First the Program Delivery Manager will call the applicant to let them know they are being transitioned. Then an email will be sent out and a transition meeting will be held.
We reviewed the Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide. This is PA’s primary document, detailing everything from the grants process to eligibility and closeout.
FEMA leadership and the recipient may determine what types of site inspections will occur when the event is declared. The inspection types may be determined in a case-by-case basis by the applicant, Program Delivery Manager (PDMG), or Site Inspector Task Force Leader:
Physical: Typical in-person inspection. May be required for complex damage, especially that with significant environmental historic preservation concerns. The applicant representative will sign the first page and initial the others.
Virtual remote: FEMA site inspector leads site inspection over video. Must have at least two applicant representatives, as one must hold the camera and the other(s) can measure and take photos.
Virtual tabletop: Applicant completes their own inspection and provides all documentation to FEMA. The applicant must be more knowledgeable about FEMA/the grants obligation process, but has more flexibility on when they perform their inspections.
Regardless of which type of inspection is performed, each site inspection report will include a photo page, the Flood Insurance Rate Map, and the location map.
We watched a virtual site inspection recording and followed along on the site inspection report forms we were given yesterday:
Ask for GPS Coordinates, repeat back to applicant. Get name of damaged location and confirm the location in Google maps or a similar program; describe what is nearby and ask if that is correct.
Confirm that the applicant has legal responsibility for the site.
Tell the applicant to show and describe first damage. Ask the applicant the damage date and the date the site was built, and whether the date they provide is exact or an estimate.
Ask the cause of the damage and who will do the repairs and the method of repair. Ask if the damage/site will be replaced in kind or if hazard mitigation will be considered.
Obtain measurements. Note which components are damaged, as well as the construction materials. If a matching material cannot be obtained, the entire structure may be replaced; for example, if no birch is available to replace a damaged fence post, the entire fence may be replaced with the available wood type.
Instruct applicant to take photos. Take screenshots showing scale. (Any photos containing children must be censored.)
We watched a video on how to use various tape measures, then practiced taking and uploading photos to OneDrive. We downloaded the My GPS Coordinates app to our Apple devices and practiced making location maps on Google Earth. These maps should have 5 decimal places for the GPS coordinates, at least 2 labeled roads visible, and a file name format of [Applicant]_[Work Order #]_[Disaster Inventory #]_Site Map. Then we made the Flood Insurance Rate Map. This was fairly straightforward, although the search function is in the longitude, latitude format.
Some miscellaneous information we got:
If an applicant turns down hazard mitigation and the same site gets damaged again, the applicant has to pay 75% of the cost instead of the typical 25% this time.
Correspondence between FEMA inspectors and applicants and recipients are archived, and these emails can be requested via the Freedom of Information Act.
After work we got a meal, played a public assistance acronyms Kahoot, and then watched another movie together.
