India's 2036 Olympics Bid Highlights Diversity and Trade Routes
Tumblr media
India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games emphasizes its deep-rooted cultural and religious diversity, its dedication to promoting peace globally, and its historical role along the ancient silk and spice routes, while underscoring India’s growing global influence, according to The Indian Express.
Recently, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formally conveyed its “intent to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Bharat (India)” in a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), marking a significant milestone in India’s campaign. The letter, prepared with government backing, places India in the race alongside Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Drawing on the country’s “rich cultural diversity, shaped over thousands of years,” the letter highlights India’s mosaic of religions—Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism—that form the backbone of its heritage. The bid emphasizes the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” a Sanskrit phrase meaning “the world is one family,” and presents a timely message of unity, friendship, and shared progress to the world community. [ad_1] India to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics (PC: Olympic Council of Asia) India wanting to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics is a realistic dream. For those who wake up to the Olympics every four years and say a country with a population well in excess of a billion can win only a few medals, the mentality is different. Sadly, this mentality reflects the lack of a sporting culture in India. It also brings to the fore pessimism, since India have not won medals in bulk at a single edition of the Olympics. If that is the yardstick, does winning 29 medals in the Paris 2024 Paralympics not mean anything? It does, for these champions have battled against the odds to win medals. Thankfully, though, the awareness is increasing. More efforts are being made to provide ramps, treat para-athletes at par. Last week, there was a great photo of Paralympian Deepa Malik at the wheels of a SUV. The vehicle was designed especially for her, keeping in mind her medical condition. And the message which Deepa had posted was so emotional. Today, India is not just another country in the world. It is developing, in a real sense. The letter written to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha is worded in such a way which captures the essence of why India wishes to host the Summer Games. There is mention of culture, diversity, different religions (faith) and how India will receive the athletes and officials as guests. The Sanskrit phrase ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbam’ means the world is one family, and that has been used as a catchphrase to attract the IOC. To be sure, the IOC has not laughed at India’s interest in hosting the 2036 Games. There are many more countries in fray, Indonesia included. Why this becomes important is, Indonesia is also part of Asia, so two nations from the same region competing is good news. It is healthy competition. As for India, the country is on the right track. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here PT Usha and Indian Olympics (PC: X) At the start of 2024, there may have been instability in the minds of many, as the General Election was approaching. Now that the elections are over, there has been a strong push that India expresses interest to host the 2036 Olympics. The message has come from the highest office that India (IOA) should write to the IOC. There is no ambiguity in it. Indeed, India expressing interest to host the Olympics also means a host city has to be mentioned, officially. Unofficially, everyone knows, including nations abroad, Ahmedabad is the likely host city. Way back in 2021, when the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad had been redeveloped, there was a buzz that the city could host the Olympics. For those who say a ‘dry state’ cannot host an Olympics, that would be a lame excuse. Doha hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and a famous beer brand was not allowed to advertise near the stadia. It led to a furore as the company had coughed up big money. This, though, will be the least of the problems, should Ahmedabad and perhaps even one more city be chosen to host the 2036 Olympics. While Ahmedabad will be the main centre, another city could host a few events. There has been constant chatter, hosting an Olympics means huge losses and a drain on the economy. The letter from the IOA has talked of “job creation” and a young population which will gain from hosting the Olympics. To think only the taxpayers’ money will be splurged on hosting the Olympics is wrong. Today, India has many corporates who are willing to back the bid as well, though names cannot be mentioned. There are real estate and infrastructure to be developed. It is only after thinking about costs and projected escalation, which always has to be factored, India has written to the IOC on the Olympic bid. If India wants to showcase itself as a capable host, why should it be mocked? So many big events have been hosted by India, and the Olympics can also happen. And if someone says the IOA is in turmoil, that is not going to be a real issue.
When London hosted the Olympics in 2012, Boris Johnson was the Mayor. Even he faced flak from the Americans. Yet, London hosted a good Olympics. Brazil in 2016 was in trouble due to political turmoil and corruption. Surely, the forecast for India in the future is good. And the Games will capture the country’s ethos, as mentioned in the letter written to the IOC. India’s Olympic Dream: The Process and Challenges of Hosting the 2036 Games
India is on a mission to bring the world’s biggest sporting event, the Olympic Games, to its soil in 2036. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken a major step forward by submitting a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), signaling the nation’s interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support, India hopes to establish itself as a…

India Takes First Step Towards Hosting 2036 Olympics, Sends Letter of Intent
India has officially entered the race to host the 2036 Olympic Games, marking the beginning of a long and intricate journey towards potentially becoming the fourth Asian country to host the prestigious event. On October 1, 2024, the Indian government submitted a formal Letter of Intent (LoI) to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), signaling its ambition to bring the Olympic Games to Indian shores. This development follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public endorsement of the bid during the opening ceremony of the 141st IOC session in Mumbai in 2023, where he expressed India's desire to host the 2036 edition of the Games.
Tumblr media
India's Olympic Aspirations
India's bid for the 2036 Olympics aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to increase its global presence in sports. Hosting the Games would elevate India's position on the world stage and leave a lasting legacy in the country's sporting infrastructure. If successful, India would join China, South Korea, and Japan as the fourth Asian nation to host the Summer Olympics.
The Indian bid stands out for its potential inclusion of traditional Indian sports like yoga, kabaddi, kho-kho, and chess. These sports reflect India’s rich cultural heritage and provide an opportunity to showcase the country's diverse sporting landscape at a global level. By integrating indigenous games, India aims to provide a unique touch to the international sporting scene and promote merit-based sports development in the country.
The Road Ahead: A Long Process
However, India's journey towards securing the 2036 Olympics is far from straightforward. The submission of the Letter of Intent is only the first step in what is likely to be a multi-year process, with no fixed deadlines for when a final decision will be made. The IOC's Future Hosts Commission (FHC) is responsible for assessing bids from cities and countries, ensuring they meet specific criteria related to infrastructure, security, accommodation, and public services. Only after thorough discussions and assessments will the final list of potential host cities be considered.
India’s bid will face stiff competition from other countries already confirmed to be in the race, including Chile, with Santiago as its proposed venue, and Turkey, which plans to host the Games in Istanbul. Additionally, countries like Indonesia (with Jakarta, Bali, and the under-construction Nusantara city) and cash-rich nations like Saudi Arabia and Qatar have also been in talks with the IOC about potentially submitting bids.
Challenges Ahead
India’s bid faces several challenges, including internal divisions within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The IOA remains the official body for communicating with the IOC, and any fractured leadership within the association could hamper India's efforts to present a unified bid. For the bid to succeed, the IOA must overcome its internal struggles and cooperate effectively with both the government and the IOC.
Moreover, India’s infrastructure and facilities will come under scrutiny. While the country has made significant progress in recent years with world-class sports venues, there is still a need for further development to meet the demands of hosting the Olympics. The Indian government has pledged to invest in the required infrastructure, but the long-term nature of this development means that it will require sustained commitment and careful planning.
The Significance of Hosting the 2036 Olympics
The potential to host the 2036 Olympics is monumental for India. The Games would act as a catalyst for sports development in the country, increase international tourism, and promote India's soft power on the global stage. Moreover, it would give a much-needed boost to India's sporting culture, encouraging youth participation in athletics and other competitive sports.
In addition, hosting the Olympics would provide a significant economic boost through job creation, investments, and increased demand for goods and services. The government’s focus on strengthening India's sports infrastructure is expected to have long-lasting benefits for various sports disciplines, including athletics, swimming, and team sports, making the country a more competitive force in international competitions.
The Path to Success
While India faces stiff competition for the 2036 Olympics, the government’s commitment to the bid is clear. The formal submission of the Letter of Intent is a significant step towards realizing this dream. However, India must work together as a nation, overcoming internal hurdles, to present a united front. The international community will closely monitor India’s preparations, and the country's potential to host the Games will largely depend on how well it can meet the IOC's stringent criteria.
The next phase of India’s Olympic bid will involve careful planning and coordination with the IOC. A thorough evaluation will take place before a final decision is made, and a host city will be selected. If successful, India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics will be a turning point in the country's sporting history, inspiring a new generation of athletes and solidifying India’s place on the global sporting map.
Conclusion
India's step towards hosting the 2036 Olympics is a bold and ambitious one, marking the nation's growing presence in the international sporting arena. While the path to securing the Games is filled with challenges, India's commitment to enhancing its sports infrastructure and the government’s backing are encouraging signs of its resolve. If successful, India’s bid will not only transform its sports landscape but also leave an indelible mark on the global stage, inspiring future generations of athletes and fostering greater cultural exchange.

Aao Host Karein !
Tumblr media
The Olympics is one of the most prestigious and globally recognized sporting events, held every four years and involving thousands of athletes from over 200 nations. Its roots trace back to ancient Greece, but its modern revival in 1896 has transformed it into a celebration of not only athletic excellence but also cultural diversity, unity, and peace. The Olympics showcase a vast array of sports, from track and field to swimming and gymnastics, highlighting human endurance, skill, and perseverance. For the participating athletes, the Games represent the pinnacle of achievement, a stage where they can perform at the highest level and gain worldwide recognition. Beyond the athletes, the Olympics create moments that resonate globally, uniting people across borders through a shared passion for sport. They foster diplomatic ties, as countries come together in peaceful competition, setting aside geopolitical tensions to focus on a common human experience. With global media coverage, the Olympics have a unique influence on fostering international understanding, encouraging collaboration, and promoting social ideals of equality and fairness. It is not just an event; it is a global movement that inspires millions of people and demonstrates the power of sports in bridging divides.
Hosting the Olympics is a monumental task that demands not only significant resources but also meticulous planning and management. A host nation must invest billions of dollars in building or upgrading sports venues, athlete villages, transportation networks, and hospitality services. Security is a major consideration, with extensive measures required to protect participants and spectators in light of the global attention the event draws. This can strain a nation's budget and infrastructure, leading to financial overreach in some cases, as seen in countries like Greece, where the 2004 Olympics contributed to long-term economic challenges. Furthermore, the logistics of managing the influx of athletes, officials, tourists, and media can overwhelm local resources. In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, inadequate infrastructure and delayed construction led to concerns over safety and readiness. Environmental impact is another issue, as the rapid construction of Olympic venues sometimes leads to deforestation, displacement of local populations, or unmanageable waste.
Yet, despite these hardships, hosting the Olympics can yield significant rewards. It can spark economic growth, particularly through tourism and the hospitality sector, with the influx of international visitors boosting local businesses. The global spotlight can elevate the host country's profile, leading to long-term boosts in tourism and foreign investment. The Olympics can act as a catalyst for urban regeneration, as seen in cities like Barcelona and London, which used the Games to modernize infrastructure, revitalize neglected areas, and enhance the quality of life for residents. While short-term costs and challenges are significant,
The race to host the 2036 Olympics is already heating up, with several countries expressing interest in securing this prestigious event. Nations such as India, Egypt, Poland, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia have either formally announced their bids or shown strong intent to host the Games. Each country sees the Olympics as a unique opportunity to showcase their global status, spur economic growth, and revitalize infrastructure. However, the competition is fierce, as hosting the Games involves meeting rigorous logistical, financial, and sustainability requirements set by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As countries prepare their bids, factors like political stability, existing infrastructure, and environmental impact will play critical roles in determining the final host, making the 2036 race one of high stakes and international intrigue.

Why are the Olympics in 2034 and not in 2032?
The Olympics are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating every two years. The next Summer Olympics will take place in 2024 (Paris), followed by the 2028 Games in Los Angeles and the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia.
Since the Summer Olympics are held in 2032, the Olympics in 2034 are not scheduled. Instead, the Summer Olympics in 2036 will take place after that. Consequently, 2034 will be the following Winter Olympics after 2030, joining the Winter Olympic cycle as opposed to the Summer Olympic cycle.
To summarize, the Olympics are scheduled for 2032; the Summer Games will follow in 2036; and the Winter Olympics will take place in 2034.

India’s Ambitious Bid for the 2036 Olympics: PM Modi Seeks Inputs from Paris-Bound Athletes
In a recent interaction with athletes headed to the Paris Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics. Modi emphasized the importance of gaining valuable insights from the athletes’ experiences in Paris to bolster India’s bid.
Tumblr media
Seeking Insights from Paris
During the session, which was held both in person and online, PM Modi highlighted the significant role these athletes could play in preparing India for hosting the Olympics. He encouraged them to observe the arrangements and provide feedback that could enhance India’s preparations.
“We are hoping to host the Olympics in 2036. It will help in creating a sporting atmosphere. Work is in progress to prepare infrastructure for it,” said Modi. He emphasized that while he did not want to distract them during their events, he hoped they would take note of the organization and logistics whenever possible. “Your inputs will help our bid for 2036. We will have an understanding on how to make sure that we are better-prepared,” he added.
The Path to 2036
Modi’s interaction included members of the national men’s hockey team, the shooting contingent, boxers, and track-and-field stars like Neeraj Chopra. The Prime Minister’s engagement with these athletes underscores the importance of their role in shaping India’s Olympic ambitions.
Encouragement and Support
Following the event, Modi shared his optimism on social media, stating, “Interacted with our contingent heading to Paris for the Olympics. I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud. Their life journeys and success inspire hope for 1.4 billion Indians.”
The Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, will see over 100 Indian sportspersons, including an unprecedented 21 shooters. The contingent aims to surpass India’s best-ever tally of seven medals, achieved at the Tokyo Games, which included Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold in javelin throw.
A Memorable Interaction
On Friday morning, PM Modi posted a video of the interaction, captioning it, “A memorable interaction with our contingent for Paris Olympics. Let us all #Cheer4Bharat.” His message resonates with the collective hope and enthusiasm of a nation aspiring for Olympic glory.
As India prepares for its ambitious bid to host the 2036 Olympics, the insights and experiences of its athletes in Paris will be invaluable in shaping the future of sports in the country.

Geographical Significance of Dholera SIR
Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) is strategically located in the state of Gujarat, India. Positioned about 100 kilometers southwest of Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and aims to be a global manufacturing and trading hub. This region spans over 920 square kilometers, offering vast opportunities for industrial, commercial, and residential development.
Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway: A Game Changer
The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is set to be a crucial infrastructure project, significantly enhancing connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera SIR. With a budget allocation of approximately Rs. 3,000 crores, this expressway will reduce travel time to just around an hour, facilitating smooth and efficient movement of people and goods. Spanning 110 kilometers in length, accommodating six lanes for high-speed travel. Additionally, rail connectivity will be developed alongside the expressway, further boosting the region’s accessibility.
Along this expressway, several major government projects are taking shape: National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), Lothal: This ambitious project, with an allocated budget of Rs. 4,500 crores, will come up on a 400-acre plot of land. The first phase is expected to be inaugurated in January 2024. NMHC will showcase the 5,000-year history of the ancient dockyard from the Indus Valley civilization located in Lothal. The complex will feature a 77-meter-tall lighthouse with a viewing gallery at a height of 65 meters, visible from Ahmedabad. It will also house a museum, an open aquatic gallery, an extensive naval museum, and various themed parks including a memorial theme park, maritime and navy theme park, climate theme park, and an adventure and amusement theme park. Lothal, along with the Statue of Unity and Dholavira, will be developed as a corridor to attract visitors from India and around the world.
Dholera International Airport Positioned to be a major aviation hub, this airport is spread over 1,426 hectares and has a budget of Rs. 1,400 crores. It will feature two runways capable of handling large aircraft and is set to boost regional connectivity and logistics. Additionally, the airport will host a TATA-Airbus joint venture, contributing to the region’s industrial growth by manufacturing military aircraft.
Enhanced Connectivity via SH 40
The existing State Highway SH 40 already connects Dholera SIR with key regions, providing an essential route for commuters and businesses. This highway complements the expressway, ensuring multiple access points to Dholera and enhancing its attractiveness.
Ripple Effects of Dholera SIR’s Development
The development of Dholera SIR is creating a ripple effect, particularly to the north of the region. Ahmedabad, known for its cosmopolitan vibe and robust economy, is just 71 kilometers away via the upcoming expressway. Ahmedabad is also preparing to host the 2036 Olympics, which will undoubtedly bring further infrastructural and economic benefits to the area.
The north of Dholera is set to benefit from this proximity, offering the best of both worlds: the thriving city life of Ahmedabad and the burgeoning industrial opportunities of Dholera SIR.
Conclusion: Why Invest North of Dholera SIR?
Investing towards the north of Dholera SIR, particularly along the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, offers significant advantages. Investors and residents will enjoy easy access to both Ahmedabad and Dholera, leveraging the benefits of two dynamic regions. The presence of the upcoming Dholera International Airport adds further allure, making this area a prime location for future growth.
In conclusion, as Dholera Smart City transforms into Greater Ahmedabad, the north of Dholera stands out as a wise investment choice. However, these observations are based on personal analysis, and it is advisable to conduct your own research to make informed decisions.
Visit www.meenakshikhurana.com for more insights and updates on real estate trends and investment opportunities in and around Dholera SIR, Dholera International Airport, SH 40 and Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway.

[ad_1] The streets of Paris during the Olympics (Image: Rohan Chowdhury) Hosting an Olympic Games is a White Elephant—this everlasting debate has been going on for years. Paris 2024, the first Games under the Olympic Agenda 2020, has managed to defy this long-lasting debate. The Olympic Agenda 2020 and its reforms aim to attain a sustainable Olympic movement that leaves a legacy to be cherished by society and enhances the essence of the Games. Greece spent over $11 billion hosting the Athens 2004 Games, which had a huge impact on the country’s economy. Many venues and infrastructure created for the Games turned out to be a burden on the country. The huge investments made by Brazil to host the Rio 2016 Games were also met with negative impacts on society. Multiple facilities were left unused and the government faced backlash from the common mass. The Paris Games were designed accordingly to be 95 per cent sustainable. Most of the facilities used were either pre-existing or temporary, and those created were built with the aim of reusable motives. Of the 1.2 million pieces of sports equipment used, 900 thousand were rented – an impressive 75 per cent. The rest which was purchased is now being donated to federations and associations to be used at different levels of society – grassroots to elite. “By redefining what more sustainable and responsible Olympic Games can look like, Paris 2024 has set a powerful example for future hosts”, said Marie Sallois, Director of Sustainability at the IOC. “The Games are proving to be a living embodiment of Olympic Agenda’s focus on sustainability, inclusivity and legacy.” [olympics.com] Eiffel Tower with the Olympic Rings (Image: Rohan Chowdhury) The French volleyball and badminton associations will receive a significant number of sports equipment to cater to their needs at different levels. The Seine-Saint-Dennis area which was fairly underdeveloped areas in terms of sports will receive new sports facilities with items from the Games. Even the sand used in the Eiffel Tower Arena, used for beach volleyball events is not going to waste. The sand will be used to make three new courts in the Seine Saint Dennis area and another court is being planned in a similar way near Taverny in Val d’Oise.
