Tumblr media Tumblr media
AuFiCon is almost upon us! For those that don't know, AuFiCon is a virtual community event hosted by the Podcast Book Club. Panels will be run over Twitch, with our Discord server hosting most everything else. The con is scheduled on a 24-hour basis to accommodate as many timezones as possible (with the schedule above listed in GMT), and events will be recorded for those that can't catch the live panels.
If you'd like to pick up a free ticket, you can do so on our EventBookings page, with the option to upgrade to a donation ticket if you'd like.
Additionally, we'd like to announce that we will be hosting an equipment giveaway during the convention! We here at the PBC are deeply appreciative of the opportunities we've been given through starting this community, and wish to give back to members who otherwise may not have access to podcasting equipment. One winner will receive a RODE NT-USB+ microphone and PSA 1+ studio boom arm. To enter:

Last month, our founder Marisa Ewing participated in @podcast-bookclub's first Audio Fiction Convention. She spoke on three panels- Music as a Story Element, Horror in Audio Fiction, and Sound Design. If you missed these talks live, we have some good news! We have recordings of all three talks that we'll be posting on Hemlock Creek's YouTube channel on Friday, Monday, and Wednesday respectively. If you're looking to learn more about the behind the scenes world of audio fiction, prepare to dive deeper with some amazing conversations with some very talented panelists.

Kazeem Tosin Amore, The Magnus Protocol
It’s Audio Fiction Convention day 2 so I come with second game. This time we will check how well do you know podcasts’ casts and crews. Rules are simple. You have to think about one of the people involved in making podcast A and put in your reblog that person together with different podcast B they’ve been involved in. Next person takes the podcast B and thinks of different person involved in it and podcast C and so on. For example: The Tower > Amber Devereux Camlann > Ella Watts Re: Dracula
Once again I will give the first podcast:

In a little over a week, the PBC's first ever virtual Audio Fiction Convention kicks off in the Discord/on Twitch! There's still time to pick up a ticket over on our EventBookings page if you haven't already done so.
Tickets are free, with the option to upgrade to a paid ticket and donate to the PBC if you'd like. If you have any issues with the site not taking your card or otherwise, we also have a Ko-Fi, and greatly appreciate the support ❤️
Tell us in the reblogs/replies - what events are you most excited for during the con? We might be a little biased, but we're really looking forward to hanging out with everyone at the modcast on Saturday ;)

2025 Virtual Audio Fiction Convention Updates
Tumblr media
Hello, friends in our computers!
We're sweeping in with some very exciting updates and information regarding the convention, so please hang tight for the long post ahead as we've got a lot of ground to cover.
Firstly, if you're unfamiliar with the premise, AuFiCon is an online community event hosted by your favorite community organization, the PBC ;). Running via a combination of Twitch for the panels and our Discord server for most everything else, the con is scheduled on a 24-hour basis to accommodate timezones, and will be free to attend given that you have access to the aforementioned platforms.
Tickets can be reserved now via our EventBookings page HERE, and again are free, with the option to donate if you'd like! All funds go directly back into the bookclub, and support is of course always appreciated. Once you've secured a ticket, you'll receive an email confirmation with further details and relevant links, such as the invite to our Discord server if you're not already a member.
Further details—panel topics, guest speakers, scheduling etc—will continue to be shared as we get closer to the event, & if you have any questions before then, you can reach us via email ([email protected]) or server tickets on Discord.

The VODs for the Opening Ceremony and Marketing A Fiction Podcast events are unavailable, but we hope you enjoy the chance to revisit everything else our first-ever con had to offer, and can't wait to do it all again in next year. 🧡

AuFiCon 2025 Retrospective
First and foremost, a million thanks to everyone involved in the convention this past weekend. I know the mod team probably sounds like a bit of a broken record at this point, but we are so incredibly grateful to every volunteer, panelist, artist & attendee that made this event possible.
We have opened up a feedback form that will be accepting responses for the near future. Regardless of your level of participation, we'd appreciate you taking a few moments to fill it out! Community response is essential for us as the team will be taking a step back and discussing how the event went - tell us what you liked, what you didn't, what you wish we would've done differently; anything is welcome and appreciated.
Recordings of the events will be available in the next few weeks, to be announced at a later date in the Discord. Until then, you can still find the VODs on our Twitch channel.
No amount of thanks can truly express our gratitude for this little community, but again, thanks for everything, y'all. Take care, and happy listening 🧡

02 January Updates from the Server 🎉
Hey friends, hope everyone is having a safe and wonderful start to the year! I've got a couple updates and the like to share:
Firstly, some of you may remember Leona @anotherdayanotherobsession and her anti-AI audio tool from last spring. The project has hit its evaluation phase, so here's some info from her + the link to the first study!:
"We're starting off with a small study on the imperceptibility of different noise levels, I'll give me important data on what level noise is acceptable for general usage in the audio drama community and beyond! Please feel free to share this with other people you know, especially those who are involved in voice/sound-related creative work."
You can find the study here. :)
Speaking of surveys, we here at the bookclub also have one we'd appreciate your responses on! Changing things in the server and across various projects can be a bit of a guessing game on our part, so we've decided to try and gather member feedback periodically. This survey is anonymous, and covers topics ranging from your personal activity level in the server to your thoughts on the server's ticketing system. We'd appreciate a minute of your time if you'd complete that survey here as well!
In the realm of all things AuFiCon, we're nearing the "running around like chickens with our heads cut off" phase of the planning, but things are coming together nicely if a bit stressfully. Within the next week to week and a half, we should have a finalized schedule out with some graphics/promotional posters to share around, so keep an eye out for that.
Happy listening, all!

Our founder Marisa Ewing recently spoke in three talks at the inaugural AuFiCon (Audio Fiction Convention) hosted by Podcast Book Club.
In this third and final panel titled "Sound Design- The Power of Soundscaping & Audio Effects," Marisa is joined by a panelist of speakers who have all worked as sound designers for audio dramas. This panel is full of tips and tricks for those interested in creating their own audio drama sound design.
