One of your prompts was for a little moment of kindness amongst the oppressiveness of the CR -- and the first thing I thought of was a kid, dirty from a day's work, seeing an armored Murderbot. But instead of fear or hatred or anger at the sight of it, they feel curious and interested. It's one of the few times MB is approached without fear while in the CR, until the events of ASR.

My Fiction for 2025 Murderbot Diaries New Year Gift Exchange

This was the first time I wrote anything with prompts. I was worried that I might not be able to come up with anything that could meet any of the requests - but it turned out to be fun and stimulating! (I thank my giftee for such good prompts!)

Also, it was the first time I asked people to do beta-reading for my work. Their comments, corrections, and questions for clarifications were immensely helpful - and I am truly grateful :)

A piece I did for 2025 Murderbot Diaries New Year Gift Exchange (@mbd-gift-exchange) for @kungsljus. They requested holiday convention stuff inspired by the celebration in Network Effect (but with Murderbot having a good time) or Murderbot enjoying nature with anyone out of its friend client group. So here it is, celebrating and being involved in its own way.

The wizard robot in the upper right media corner is Kungsljus's D&D OC.

The picture was originally in monochrome because of the deadline, so I'm adding it here too.

The Murderbot Diaries fandom New Year gift exchange is back! This is our fourth annual exchange to celebrate Murderbot. (Prior years' collections are here)

All sorts of fanworks are welcome: fanfic, fanart, playlists, etc. The event will be open to anyone who wants to participate, so long as they have a discord account that they will communicate with the event organizers through.

Timeline:

Sign ups: Nov 10 - Dec 5, 2024 Assignments: Dec 15, 2024 Gifts Due: Jan 20, 2025 Pinch Hitter Period: Jan 20, 2025 - January 31, 2025 AO3 Collection Closes: Midnight January 31, 2025 UTC Reveals: Midnight February 1, 2025 UTC

Main rules:

Keep the gift a secret from your giftee until midnight Feb 1, 2025 UTC. It's a surprise!

Please abide by "Do Not Wants" requested by your giftee. (Eg: if your giftee asks for no apples, please do not make a gift for them that involves apples.) Note that some folks are particular about ships: any ships are fine to request/write/create in this event, but please do not create a shippy gift out of a non-shippy request.

The event organizers will check in with you via discord direct messages as the deadline approaches. If you fail to respond to check-ins three times in a row, you will be presumed as not being able to complete your gift, and your gift will be reassigned to a pinch hitter.

Submitting your gift through the AO3 Collection is optional.
