I went to the Rolex 24 hour in Daytona a couple weeks ago. a 24 hour race was on my bucket list. We camped outside of turn 1 all weekend. it was a blast. I rented a Canon 100-400mm lens and got a lot of amazing photos with it. The Rolex is a great experience for fans, unbelievable access all weekend long.

Le Mans vs. Daytona, Two Sides of the Endurance Racing Coin.
A bit of a belated blog on the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, how it compares to the other major 24-hour race - the Rolex 24 at Daytona - and how IMSA and WEC differ.
First things first, sports car racing in general is at a peak right now.
The largest prototype fields in decades, interclass competition of sorts with LMDh/GTP cars on one end and Hypercars on the other, and equally diverse GT3 fields to go with it. It's not a competition between IMSA and WEC as far as I'm concerned, both series collaborated on these regulations and that has benefitted endurance racing as a whole.
That being said, I've noticed some differences between the two, and I've had some discussions with friends about it lately.
The crux is this: the Rolex 24 at Daytona is the curtain raiser for the racing season, where drivers from every discipline from Formula One to NASCAR to half the Indycar field, plus all the regular cast of characters from endurance racing come to play. It's all within the confines of a 2.5-mile oval with big grandstands and clear sightlines, and the lights are all over the track, meaning you can see all the action pretty well. It's also in Daytona Beach a few weeks ahead of the Daytona 500.
Daytona is a party, a celebration of motorsport to kick off the next season of racing.
Le Mans, meanwhile, is a beacon of history. The start-finish line is where it has always been, the Dunlop Bridge has outlasted Dunlop itself making racing tyres, and it's an old school reminder to when those types of circular bridges were all over racing. Then onto the Mulsanne, the long, dark highway, with bits of civilization interspersed with woods, a theme with continues in the back half of the track. Some corners are named after historic tracks, like Indianapolis, others are named after the marques which defined era of Le Mans history - Corvette, Porsche, and Ford in particular.
Corvette, which has dominated GT racing at Le Mans for decades now.
Porsche, which is the most successful brand at Le Mans, and
Ford, who went back-to-back-to-back-to-back in the late 60s with the GT40, and then returned with the GT1 and GTE models in more recent decades.
That dedication to history shows in the broadcast too, with the broadcast often cutting to Tom Kristensen for interviews or by harkening back to similar events in Le Mans' past. Obviously, that's something that comes up in all racing broadcasts, but it was very apparent at Le Mans this year.
For the record, I'm not saying that's bad, this blog is proof that I'm a massive nerd when it comes to racing history, and I love that, I'm just noting it's a difference.
The crowd burning a couch in celebration after the 12 Hours of Sebring? Fans celebrating the misadventures of the Sean Creech Motorsports American flag Ligier LMP2 with its many cautions at Daytona and now Watkins Glen? You don't really see that at Le Mans.
In fact, there was one very fun thing from the 2023 Le Mans that was missing this year: the Garage 56 NASCAR. Now, i understand that was a one-off thing, and I do get the impression that the hydrogen car they showed off before the race - which was numbered #24, just like the NASCAR had been - was supposed to be a G56 entry for this year but they couldn't quite get it working yet, so I know that it's a bit of an unfair criticism to levy against Le Mans.
Still, 2023 had the big Camaro memes, the V8 sound, all those Freebird on the Mulsanne edits, it made Le Mans more fun.
And of course, Le Mans is fun even without those things - ferris wheels, fireworks, and, you know, the whole twenty-four hours of motor racing thing - all make for appointment television for racing nerds like me, but it is something I've noticed coming out of the 2024 race.
So does Le Mans need to change? No, i don't think so.
I like seeing cars coming down the Mulsanne, I like seeing the Ferrari hypercar racing against Toyota in addition to all the cars that do both IMSA and WEC, I like the announcers getting increasingly delirious as it gets into the night stint, and I like the fact that Valentino Rossi is now a BMW GT3 driver who competed at Le Mans.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona is probably more fun that Le Mans and its position on the calendar probably lets it get a handful of one-off drivers that may not be able to do Le Mans, but Le Mans also attracts plenty of unique talent as well. Ferrari doesn't do IMSA, nor does Toyota, nor does Valentino Rossi.
Would I like them to? Absolutely.
Am I fine with just having two different, successful endurance racing series on either side of the Atlantic? Absolutely. It's like the modern version of CART vs. Formula One as far as I'm concerned, only this time, I'm in a position to enjoy it.
So yeah, there are some things I prefer about IMSA, but there's plenty I love about Le Mans as well.
Hell, the fact that after the sister Ferrari won last year, we got to see the #50 Ferrari of Nicklas Nielsen, Miguel Molina, and Antonio Fuoco win. Both cars have now won Le Mans, and this means that last year's Antonio Giovinazzi, and this year's Antonio Fuoco - two drivers I've followed since the mid-to-late 2010s when they were actively in the open wheel junior series - are both Le Mans winners.
That's cool. I love the fact that drivers can fulfill their dream of winning for Ferrari, not just in Formula One, but now at Le Mans too. It's a great time to see, and between this and Indycar, I'm developing a lot of hope for talented junior drivers without F1 prospects.
Hell, on that very note, Felipe Drugovich raced at Le Mans for Action Express Cadillac this year, which seems to be his first time back in a major racing series since his F2 title campaign. Glad to see him back behind the wheel, just wish it went better for him.
Anyway, this last weekend of racing was a bit of a dud for me and I find myself busy yet again, so I'll leave the blogpost here, but do let you know what you think!

Post 'ROLEX BELGIAN GRAND PRIX 2024' Point Theory.
Well F1 enthusaists can you believe we are already halfway through the 2024 season? How many of you perdictred this is how the standings and competition would like in general?? Like no one was expecting 7 different race winners in the first 14 races!! Everyone was honestly full Max 24 race domminance.
With being half way through not only the summer break itself (two more weeks tell Netherlands) but also the calander itself lets take a look at where everyone is standing after the Dutch GP.
Points theory to 12th as presented by the FIA:
Tumblr media
This is fatoring in Georges DQ so he stays the same on points, Lewis gets bumped 1st so he is closing on Carlos rapidly (that ferrari had fallen off a bit) Oscar got bumped to 2nd so he is closing not only on charles but also Lando (three way title fight incoming??) and everyone else held standings mostly and just added points to their name.
Points to 20th, I choose a method of 20pts for 1st and 1pt for 20th:
Tumblr media
I love this method more in the sense that it fully highlights when teams are underperforming verus the other method of points stopping at 10th or 12th. When you look at this you can see how well Mclaren are performing, how much Sergio is letting RB down, the mega job by both Vcarbs cause that RB19 clone is not as identical as we thought preseaon, and just how much Wiliams and Sauber are letting their drivers down.

Lighthouse Keeper Tweets
And now, the post literally no one asked for. The Lighthouse Keeper's tweets from March 29, 2023, through July 2, 2024, supplemented with my own Haylor notes.
Note 1: I’m not in the business of convincing people LK is HS. Read this though. Look at his feed and decide for yourself. :) I’m here to speculate and have a good time.
Note 2: I skipped a handful of minor tweets I felt were not related to the overall LK narrative or unremarkable. (Examples: LK tweeted "Ciao!" on July 22, the date of HS's last LOT show in Italy, and a little running gag on April 1; he also likes to post about cake on HS's birthday and Christmas wishes, etc.)
Part 1: March 2023 - October 2023
March 29, 2023 - "I'm in my lighthouse keeper era." "Did I do it? Am I cool and trendy now?" 12:15 p.m. CT
April 1, 2023 "I actually really dislike lighthouses... don't know why I chose this life..." 3:55 a.m. CT
Taylor is about to play Arlington, Texas, later that day. (I think Harry is there. Here's why.) Seems like perhaps someone thought it would be funny to take his phone and tweet from it...
April 1, 2023 "April fools of course!!!! I love Lighthouses and I love keeping them!!!" 5:06 a.m. CT
April 2, 2023 "It's been a hell of a year..." 3:00 a.m. CT
April 6, 2023 "You'll be good, my love." 12 p.m. ET (NYC)
LK mentions in his replies to this one that he's drank half a bottle of rosé. Splitting it with someone, perhaps?
April 12, 2023 "Homeward bound forever."
Tone of this tweet seems bittersweet to me. H spotted in LA this day on work pit stop in between final European leg of LOT. After this, Taylor starts to fall apart on stage.
April 22, 2023 “If you really knew me, would you really want me?” 2:39 pm PST
Despondent, right? As if they left things on not great terms?
April 26, 2023 “Time cast a spell on you, but you won’t forget me.”
Fleetwood Mac “Silver Spring” lyrics.
May 6, 2023 “I hate to feel the rain on my back as I watch you go from me.” 4:15 p.m. BST
Matty time has commenced. Harry is in London.
May 11, 2023 “You’ve got me counting down the days.”
Could be a reference to Wembley. Deux Moi reported Taylor chartered there and was spotted at the June 13 show.
May 19, 2023 “Welcome Home” 12 a.m. BST
Taylor plays Foxborough, just 18 miles away from Holiday House.
June 1, 2023 “Je t'aime, Je t'aime, Je t'aime!” 10:35 a.m. BST
“I love you, I love you, I love you” in French. On May 30, a photo of Harry walking outside Cartier is shared to gossip sites. Cartier is a French luxury brand. On May 31, Taylor begins wearing a very pricey 1980s vintage Cartier necklace.
June 20, 2023 “Our lonesome shadows toss and turn. Throw our doubts in the fire. We’ll watch them burn.” 12:06 a.m. BST
Does he want to to make it work. From his set selection it seemed like it. But then...
June 29, 2023 - Taylor records “Down Bad” and Harry and Taylor Russell go on their first papped outing to a museum. So, it all fell apart, clearly. Why?
July 11, 2023 “Fast car, alligator shoes” 3:45 p.m. BST
These are lyrics from I.N.V.U. Other lyrics include, “He rolls in with his roll neck and his Rolex/he’s mister MTV/he claims he’s cashing checks/and breaking necks/at least that’s what he wants you to think/…/he’s at the wheel while I’m trapped in the boot.”
This is the day of Travis’ first Eras show. This was posted before he even showed up. …Did H know beforehand that this relationship was all planned in advance? At least, the beginning? (Perhaps as way to cleanse the public's palate from Matty?)
July 18, 2023 “The sky and the stars” 12 a.m. BST
Taylor Russell’s birthday. Just to be a dick? Or unrelated because...
July 19, 2023 - Daylight MV no. 2 drops
July 20, 2023 “There’s been a load of compromising on the road to my horizon but I’m gonna be where the lights are shinin’ on me.” 10:10 p.m. BST
These are lyrics from “Rhinestone Cowboy.” Sounds like H’s fucking had it, to me. Other lyrics include, “Nice guys get washed away like snow in the rain.”
August 24, 2023 “Hide in the middle of the universe, where the hills are steep and complications low.” 10:10 p.m. BST
H went to TR’s play opening on 1989 TV’s announcement night. Tay continues to wear the Cartier necklace. H also goes to TR’s play again 8/28.
August 30, 2023 “Through the gaps of my curtains looking at the moon it’s like you’re here with me. It’s like you see it too.” 9:30 p.m. BST
"Pick You Up" leaks 8/31. Taylor posts Griff’s “Vertigo” on Instagram 9/5. "Try Honey" leaks 9/12.
Sept. 16, 2023 “What are we drinking tonight?” 9:10 p.m. BST
Comments in the replies that he’s drinking and probably needs water. Post 9/14 Travis talking about Taylor on his podcast.
Sept. 21, 2023 “And my whiskey sings the obituaries.” 12 a.m. BST
Sept. 30, 2023 “Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. It's getting hard to be someone, but it all works out. It doesn't matter much to me.” 9:30 p.m. BST
Lyrics from “Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles.
Post TS’s first NFL game appearance.
Oct. 8, 2023 “So much for an early night” in Morse code 12:30 a.m. BST
Probably out with Tom and Tyler post recording. I hope.
Oct. 12, 2023 “Will you hold me dear and keep me warm? And I’ll shield us both from sorrow and the storm” 4:35 p.m. BST
Maybe he decides he and TR can keep each other company? That’s depressing.
Oct. 17, 2023 “You said ‘love is touching souls’ surely you touched mine ‘cause part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time.” 4:20 p.m. BST
Lyrics from Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.”
Oct. 19, 2023 “And the rattle of the red line cuts through like a knife. So, what do you say we try to live this life?” 11:30 p.m. BST
Sad sad saaaad.
Oct. 23, 2023 “Moon, tell me if I could send up my heart to you?” 8:30 p.m. BST
Mitski lyrics. Suffering. Pain.
Ahead to Part Two

Nameless *(Renamed from a previous version)
This is a short story I wrote recently, it has no relation to any of the other stories I am currently writing, but I enjoyed writing it.
(What follows is a recent but incomplete re-write of this short story to improve it. I hope you all enjoy it, despite the still present flaws contained within - 24/04/2024)
He pressed his back against the cool dirt of the trench, shivering underneath his thin light blue fatigues, both from the cold of the advancing night and from the rigid terror that dragged at him like some cruel animal playing with its meal, his shaking hands clutched to his rifle as he pulled it close to his chest like a priest’s crucifix. The twilight lingered overhead as the sounds of wails of agony and fire danced through the air like an opera of the dammed.
He stared out ahead, failing to shut out the noise, his face petrified by fear, stained by mud and soot, and bruised by the stock of his rifle that he clung to so dearly. His eyes shook in their sunken sockets, his cap, stained like his face, pulled down to cover them, as they fell upon his clawed, bloody hands. He flinched as a shell blew behind him over the trench, shrapnel and dirt being flung up into the air with it. Shortly after the space fell silent, the sounds of war and monsters drifting off with the wind. Still he did not move, frozen, hopeless as he waited for the silent death that would take him along with the others, spent tears failing to fall and stripe his face.
“Ah, there you are!” a warm, unserious voice spoke, startling the soldier to look up, his taught hands snapping to his rifle, feeling for the slowly chilling wood and steel of it. But as he looked up, he saw an odd sight. It was tall man, dressed in similar light blue summer fatigues as himself, only of a seemingly higher rank yet unbuttoned and hung open in a casual manner, he wore a kepi on his head, his face split into a wide relaxed smile as if he was enjoying himself. He strode over to the man as the latter pressed his back to the chill dirt, his hob-nailed boots stepping over the pitted ground that led up to the cowering man.
He clutched his own rifle in one hand, holding it about his shin by the handguard, the sling only slightly above the ground. “I was unsure anyone was left, but it seems I was wrong, come on, onto your feet, we have a bit more to do yet!” he declared with a smiling levity. The solider stared up at the nameless man who appeared, his face fixed in a rictus of a smile that did not leave his lips and was reflected in his eyes, the soldier’s gaze caught on the watch on his wrist, a ‘Root beer’ Rolex GMT Master-II made of rose gold, the £35,000 watch glinting in the dying twilight, only just avoiding the blood splatter that stained the man’s hands, matched on his face and collar.
“I, I can’t, I’m too scared to move, they’re all dead. All of them, dead!” the soldier babbled, his voice hollow bar from the calcification of fear that made up his words.
“Courage man, courage!” Nameless encouraged the man with consoling words, patting him on the shoulder, still smiling at the solider as he knelt down.
“What are you fucking talking about! It’s hopeless!” the soldier roared back, the russet red of rage pulling colour back to his cheeks but for a moment.
“That is the most important time to have courage my dear man!” Nameless assured, a wide smile on his face, his tone somehow sounding sincere while still keeping the levity it always rang with. The solider looked up at him with a disbelieving, broken look, “The most important thing is to have courage, most of all when there is no hope left, even when fighting monsters in the dark,” he finished humorously, still holding the man’s shoulder as darkness began to flank them as the sun gave out.
“I, I can’t it’s too much,” the soldier apologized, hanging his head. Nameless simply looked at the man, his expression unchanging. He checked his watch then glanced over the top edge of the trench.
“Then can you do me one favour? I’d like to borrow your binoculars,” he said softly, shielding his eyes as he looked over the rim of the trench.
“Sure,” the soldier replied, pulling them from his neck and placing them in the man’s outstretched hand which he quickly put to his eyes, his smile twitching on his face.
“Ah, there we are,” he said with an odd relish, pulling the binoculars from his eyes and tucking them into his open jacket. He turned to the soldier and nodded to him, “Courage man,” he said warmly, his face still in a rictus grin, before leaping up over the top as if he was hiking up some rocky hillside, a bandolier of grenades rattling over his back. He ran ahead and the soldier heard him run off, his face falling into further disbelief. He cowered in his hole, hopeless, and straining his neck as he strained to listen for noise above the trench fighting for courage to at least look. Then noise reached him, the great marching of boots and the distant rumble of tanks carrying across the blackness of summer. He flinched, pulling into himself as he tried to make himself smaller, yet smaller as his fear crushed him.
Then he heard the sound of gunfire, snaping and short, the sound of a rifle like his own barking and howling in the night like a violent wolf, spawning the squealing cries of the monsters beyond. He hid from the noise, gritting his teeth, shaking as it became louder and louder until he sprang to his feet, gripping his rifle in shaking hands as tears tumbled down his face, quivering as he remained courageous where he stood even as the sight of his rifle shook before his eyes. He stayed, ready to fight the howling, cries of monsters and demons that would soon assail him. To halt, from whatever emotion that drove him, what Nameless had leapt into.
He waited, silent, shaking, barely mustering his courage to stand and defend let along to creep forward into the night filled with monsters… But nothing came. No monsters, no soldiers, nothing but the morning sun with the end of the hours of darkness. And with the daylight he saw ahead of him, within the mangled green fields and among the scorched husks of trees, blasted out tanks and the bodies of a dead army. He stared out at the scene, shakily pulling himself out of his trench and stumbling wide eyed through the scene, his rifle hanging unneeded at his hip, slung from his shoulder. Not one enemy was left, hundreds, laying slumped in a mess of neat carnage surrounded by useless weapons and destroyed equipment, the ground frosted by golden brass casings and glazed with red blood, shining in the early sun along with the odd morning dew.
He didn’t find Nameless.

Colton is easygoing and laidback, a true California kid, yet is intensely competitive. Participant (rumored to be the mastermind) in several of the infamous Indy 500 bus lot pranks in recent years, he somehow eludes any true blame falling upon him. He’s well-liked within the paddock, most recently sort of adopted by the Bus Bros and nicknamed “Swolton.” He is also close friends with Alex Rossi, often staying with his former teammate when he needs to be in Indy. He doesn’t make a lot of waves off-track, one of the quietest drivers on social media, but makes up for it on-track with fantastic saves and crashes in equal measure. Just 23 years old in 2023 has 7 wins, 11 podiums and 9 poles in his young life.

F1 discussions.
In late summer 2022, it was announced that F1 team AlphaTauri had an interest in Colton for the 2024 F1 season. Colton, already signed to McLaren F1 as a test driver in addition to his Andretti contract in Indycar, was not eligible for a Super License, a requirement to drive in F1, but this could be addressed with an exception by the FIA. At one point it was announced that this was a done deal but it was not and Red Bull (AlphaTauri’s parent team) soon abandoned all efforts to acquire Colton as a driver.
The Super License system is a convoluted thing that I will not explain here other than to say that Indycar is vastly underrated in points assigned and if not for this discrepancy, Colton would have had more than enough points. But as it is, Colton had 32 points out of a needed 40. Other drivers in similar situations have raced in various lower tier FIA sanctioned series to make up the points and Colton was willing to do this over the winter of 2022-23 but this was also not allowed by the FIA.
But seeing Colton in F1 is still a possibility, should he do well enough in Indycar to earn the points needed and should Michael Andretti eventually succeed in buying an existing F1 team or convincing F1 to allow him to enter a new team. After the end of the 2022 Indycar season, Colton signed a multi-year contract extension with Andretti that includes the ability to switch to an Andretti owned F1 team.
