If you somehow managed to dodge Barbeheimer mania this summer and have been avoiding this film, I’d recommend checking it out now that things have died down and it’s out of theaters. Oppenheimer will be nominated and likely win lots of awards during awards season- and rightfully so! It’s a triumph!

I’m a big fan of Sofia Coppola and this film did not disappoint! Like her other films, it’s haunting, atmospheric, beautiful, powerful, and evocative. It truly captures quiet joy and quiet sorrow. The soundtrack is excellent, and Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi both do a fantastic job of bringing these real-life figures to life. If you’ve seen Elvis (2022), Priscilla is a very different interpretation of Elvis- quieter, softer, more interested in the small, subtle moments that made up the couple’s turbulent life together than the larger than life showiness found in the other film. IMO, these two films would work well as companion pieces.
