TOP COMICS OF 2022 - PART 1 So this was the year I discovered the Webtoon app which completely ruined my life and reading habits for the past three months. The upside? So many brilliant new comics to sink my teeth into! This is essentially a list of all my favorite graphic novels, webtoons, webcomics, and manga from 2022. Happy reading!
The High Desert: Black. Punk. Nowhere (Graphic Novel) A...young man’s immersive reckoning with identity, racism, clumsy teen love and belonging in an isolated California desert, and a search for salvation and community through punk. A really moving, thoughtful examination of a young, Black teenager finding home in the punk scene in a hostile environment. I love stories that make full use of the story’s location and reading this felt like pulling back a flap into the past
Inhibit (Webcomic) As a kid, Victor dreamed of training to be a superhero. That didn't go so well. I’m usually a superhero hater because superpowers rarely ever feel integrated into the world of the story...which is why I loved Inhibit so much! It’s a really grounded look at how superpowers might give rise to institutional failure and repression. Also features some of the best comic dialogue I’ve read in ages
Talentless Nana (Manga) In the near future, mysterious monsters begin to appear, and with it so do children with supernatural powers called the "Talented". To prepare them for the upcoming battle, all the Talented are sent to a school located on a deserted island. One day, a new student named Nana Hiiragi arrives at the school. BNHA if Izuku had snapped in middle school. So iconic, with one of the coolest female protagonists I’ve read this year and several fun, inventive murder mystery scenarios. The dichotomy between Nana’s moeblob appearance and her actual zealous, desperate, grief-driven character makes this manga worth it. (cw: some weird twin stuff in the later chapters. just skip it)
The Carpet Merchant of Konstantiniyya (Webcomic) A two-volume Eisner-nominated graphic novel set in 17th century Istanbul and 18th century England, about a carpet merchant's reconcilitation with faith, love and home in the aftermath of his death by a vampire. The one comic on this list that actually made me cry. Every single page was so full of care for its characters, for Turkish Muslim art and culture, for its paneling, for everything. If there’s one comic on this list you read, read this one!
This Isekai Maid is Forming a Union! (Webtoon) Bridgette is a young woman who has been Isekai'd 10 times as a maid, and she has had enough of Otome protagonists abusing their power, slapping maids, and using them as pawns to do their dirty work. Her solution? Form a union, protect her coworkers, and bring the worst house down! Damn....I actually haven’t read that many otome isekais and I feel like I can’t even start because none of them are going to hold up against this one. Read for an epic anticapitalist, anticolonial isekai story!
Stick & Poke (Webtoon) Mal Hassan is just a girl living on her mom's farm, but when she is offered a once in a lifetime chance to work with her favorite band, she drops everything to follow them on tour. How could she pass up her one chance to hook up with that hot guitarist? ALERT! STRAIGHT TRANS GIRL ROMANCE PROTAGONIST!! A total hidden gem with really incredible art, a lovely story, and the cutest female lead ever!! This comic makes color theory its bitch btw
Tiger Tiger (Webcomic) Tiger, Tiger is a story of a young noble lady, who steals her brother's identity and his ship to sail across the world to find love and adventure, and to write a book about her favourite subject: the fascinating life cycle of sea sponges! Yeah, this 100% deserved an Eisner. Brilliant art, incredible comic timing, hot butch monstergod girls, and a mystery of the deeps unfolding at its core.
Never Ending Darling (Webtoon) Ha-im Yun lives in a world where people register their DNA into cloning databases, invented by her boyfriend of five years, Geunhu Ji. Their relationship isn’t perfect, but they make it work -- or so Ha-im thinks, until she finds her dead body at her boyfriend’s house...her body! The next day, she finds a note from herself in her room… “Ha-im, if you’re reading this, you’re a clone.” We all love to see girls outsmarting their abusive partners. Especially if said partner can literally clone you forever. WILL have you on the edge of your seat.
Castle Swimmer (Webtoon) What happens when your entire life is ruled by a prophecy? Such is the story of two young sea creatures. One believed to be a guiding light, a Beacon who will lead them to a bright, prosperous future. The other a teenage prince for who’s destiny is to KILL the Beacon. When both reject the course set for them, it leads to a raucous adventure as big and unpredictable as the ocean itself – and a romance that nobody could have predicted. I’m not going to lie - I did judge this book by its cover. Like, I fully thought this was going to be some cringe timepass fantasy where the author just wanted to see anime mermaid boys kiss or whatever. Which just....no. Get ready for the emotional thrill ride of your life.
The Croaking (Webtoon) The Roost - the world’s most prestigious military academy - has never accepted a Crow into its ranks. Until now. However, the conditions surrounding Scra’s acceptance are shrouded in conspiracy, and his new roommate Ky won’t rest until he finds out just where he goes every night. Scra, Ky and Ree must band together to uncover the truth about their utopia and the whispers of a superweapon - “The Croaking” - that are seeping from the cracks. AGAIN, I thought this was going to be some cringe timepass fantasy where this time, the author just wanted to see winged guys kiss. Yeah, no. Get ready for the most intricate political thriller you’re ever going to read on webtoon.
Okay, that’s it! There’s definitely more, but we’ll save that for next year!

1Nm8 Tweets and ParaTora Consolation Match Posts Translation
Translation of 1Nm8 members Tweets and Paradox Tribe posts from their official accounts about the Consolation Match, from November 18th 2022 (announcement date) to February 15th 2023 (end of voting).
All dates are according to JST! Posts without links haven't been shared to Twitter and are available only in the ParaTora app.
I decided to repost my earlier translation that went up to February 10th to include latter messages, and because I missed several posts from Paradox Tribe that haven't been linked on Twitter. I'm sorry for the trouble!
Note: these translations prioritize conveying the writing style and meaning of the members' messages, so they aren’t word-for-word.
Also note that this is a thematic compilation about the Consolation match, so I omitted some fluff messages (mostly from Rokuta) and posts about Kei and Itsuki's birthdays, which you can already find on this blog.
Kei, Nov 18th, ‘22
Our words will surely reach you.
Rokuta, Nov 23rd, ‘22
Somehow, I feel like listening to Kei-chan’s songs! Gonna pop into his room later!
Kei, Dec 4rd, ‘22
A good sound has descended upon me. Let’s follow it a bit further.
Itsuki, Dec 14th, ‘22
Together, we have gone over the song demo produced by Kei. It appears it can still be polished further. He is a man of bottomless talent.
Rokuta, Dec 17, ‘22
I’ll do my best to write lyrics just as good as Kei-chan’s track!
Kei, Dec 21th, ‘22
The song is finished.
Kei, Dec 25th, '22 (Paradox Tribe)
16:06
The song filled with 1Nm8's thoughts and resolve has been completed. We will bet everything on this.
17:53
You've kept Rokuta company in conversation. Thank you.
18:02
Thank you, everyone, for listening to our new song a lot. This time, we've expressed the theme of destruction and regeneration even more vividly. Just like a blue sky reflects in a cracked mirror, or like a withered flower leaves behind it's seeds to create the future, even in harsh conditions, the world goes through change and rebirth. Creating the new world is the role and mission of 1Nm8.
I made the track with the image of taking the status quo that is slowly spiraling downward to rapidly break, purify it and restore it to normal.
In order to write a new chapter, spin a new story for this world, we cannot lose.
Both Rokuta and Itsuki are working even harder than usual. I hope our feelings reach you.
Rokuta, Dec 28th, ‘22
I came up with even better lyrics than before! Let’s take them for a spin and see how they work!
Kei, Dec 28th, ‘22
Rokuta is doing his best too, isn’t he?
Rokuta, Dec 29th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
In this battle, what I want everyone to pay attention too is the song Kei-chan made, after all! Of course, me and Itsuki-nii did our best, too! I want everyone to listen to it soon! Look forward to it!
Itsuki, Jan 1st, '23
This year will surely be a glorious one for 1Nm8. I ask for your continued support.
Itsuki, Jan 1st, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
Thank you for the numerous messages of support. Let us meet again.
Kei, Jan 4th, ‘23
All is for the sake of our ideals.
Kei, Jan 12th, ‘23
With this power, I shall bring salvation to all. We mustn't allow any more people to experience the pain we did. We will make sure the cycle of suffering breaks with us.
Itsuki, Jan 12th, ‘23
We have a goal we must fulfill. Until we accomplish that, we cannot break.
Kei, Jan 31st, ‘23 (Paradox Tribe)
13:02
It was nice to log in here after a while. Thank you for all the congratulatory and supportive messages. That there are so many people who share our vision and thoughts about the world gives us a lot of strength. Tomorrow, lets open the first page of the new world.
22:03
Unless we take action, the chain of misfortune caused by phantometal will never be broken. So that the tragic history doesn’t repeat, and so that we may lead peaceful ordinary lives, 1Nm8 intends to seize victory. If Rokuta, Itsuki and myself come together, we can see it through. I would be happy if you all, too, would consider what is right.
Rokuta, Jan 25th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
16:30
It's so cold today~ Everyone, how are you holding up?
17:20
Talking to you all made me feel so warm! I'm going to take a little nap, too! Thank you for hanging out with me, everyone!
17:20
Oh, and thank you for listening to our song a lot! We'll win for sure!
Rokuta, Jan 31st, ‘23 (Paradox Tribe)
12:16
Everyone, hello! Today is Kei-chan's birthday, and tomorrow is the battle! Please support us!
13:00
Thank you for your support, everyone! Also, thank you for celebrating Kei-chan's birthday a lot! Tomorrow, we'll do our best together! Bye bye!
21:50
I’ll be the one to protect our “everyday” with Kei-chan and Itsuki-nii! I’d be happy if you gave us a lot of support! Let’s meet up on the stage!
Itsuki, Jan 31st, ‘23 (Pradox Tribe)
There’s no other path for us than to win this battle.
Kei, Feb 1st, ‘23 (Paradox Tribe)
With these hands, I will grant salvation to all.
Kei, Feb 1st, ‘23
We will create the ideal world, with our own hands.
Rokuta, Feb 1st, ‘23
This is us during the rehearsal!
Itsuki, Feb 1st, ‘23
Winning here will lead us to the future. We cannot fail here.
Kei, Feb 2nd, '23
I would be happy if 1Nm8's thoughts were conveyed through yesterday's performance. We will fight until the end, so please support us.
Rokuta, Feb 3rd, ‘23
Thank you for supporting us a lot! We’ll work even harder, so come with us, everyone!
Rokuta, Feb 7th, ‘23
Everyone, thank you for your support! I’ll keep doing my best so I can become Kei-chan and Itsuki-nii’s strength and support them both!
Itsuki, Feb 8th, ‘23 (Paradox Tribe)
The turning point is still ahead. The current result is within the range we can pull it back from.
Itsuki, Feb 9th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
21:05
Itsuki here. Thank you for coming to the live on February 1st. I am late, but that is what I want to say.
21:49
Excuse me, I need to prepare for tomorrow. Once again, let me express my gratitude. These days, I feel reassured to have the support of so many Heads. At the same time, your support allows me to reconfirm that our way of thinking is not mistaken, and I am able to continue the battle. For the sake of Rokuta, Kei, and for the sake of the world of tomorrow, we plan to keep fighting. No matter what we have to sacrifice.
Kei, Feb 10th, ‘23 (Paradox Tribe)
We’ve accepted everyone’s feelings. If we lose, the chains of misfortune will stay unbroken. We will win no matter what. I ask for your support until the end.
Rokuta, Feb 12th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
I won't give up yet! If it all ends here, we will... I don't want that! We have to work harder and harder.
Itsuki, Feb 12th, '23 (Paradox Tribe, reply to Rokuta)
Even with all this support, the wall we're facing is still so high? Yet, I haven't completely lost hope. It's worth it risking everything for this.
Kei, Feb 12th. '23 (Paradox Tribe, reply to Rokuta)
I feel everyone's voices becoming one. Just a bit more... Just a little more.
Rokuta, Feb 13th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
It's just a bit more! Thanks to everyone's support, I feel so warm. I will do my best until the end, too!
Itsuki, Feb 14th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
We cannot give up. We want to give shape to the support we've received from many Heads who sympathize with 1Nm8's ideals.
Rokuta, Feb 15th, '23
15:09
Everyone, thank you for supporting us! There's still a little time left, so make sure you haven't forgotten to vote~~!
Kei, Feb 15th, '23 (Paradox Tribe)
Thank you for your support. This should become a big step towards furthering our ideals. I would like to to win this battle and open a new page of our story.
Itsuki, Feb 15th, '23
I'm grateful for your support. It's an undeniable fact that many Heads have endorsed us. Now, we can only wait for the results.

Today's Daily Encounter 18th April 2022
Celebrate Easter
He [Jesus] was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins!"1
We are celebrating Easter ... the time of the year when millions around the world celebrate the death and resurrection of the Savior of the world—the One who was rejected by men ... the One who came from heaven to earth to give his life a ransom for your sins and mine ... the One who is now in Heaven preparing a place for his followers ... the One who is coming again to take us to be with him in glory forever. How can we ever thank God and the Son of God enough for so great salvation? One of my favorite gospel songs written by Keith Green expresses my feelings very well. I trust it will yours too. Let's make this our prayer for today:
"Oh Lord, You're beautiful, Your face is all I seek, And when Your eyes are on this child, Your grace abounds to me.
Chorus: “I wanna take Your Word and shine it all around. But first help me just to live it, Lord! And when I'm doing well. Help me to never seek a crown. For my reward is giving glory to You.
“Oh, Lord, You're wonderful, Your touch is all I need, And when Your hand is on this child, Your healing I receive.
"Oh Lord, please light the fire, That once burned bright and clear, Replace the lamp of my first love, That burned with holy fear.”2
Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus’ name, amen.”

GOD PERMITS PHYSICAL AND MORAL EVIL. WHY? IT IS A GREAT MYSTERY. JESUS CHRIST THE SON OF GOD DIED AND ROSE TO VANQUISH SATAN AND EVIL.
"Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures: "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes’?" (Matthew 21: 42).
Friday 18th March 2022, in the 2nd Week in Lent is the feast of St Cyril of Jerusalem. Bishop and Doctor of the Church. (315 - 386). St Cyril was the Archbishop of Jerusalem when the Arian heresy disturbed the peace of the Church all over the Roman Empire.
Cyril vigorously defended the unchangeable teachings of the Church. For this, he suffered multiple exiles from the See of Jerusalem. St Cyril is recognized in history by his catechetical works. He prepared multitudes of Catechumens to receive Baptism and helped the Neophytes after Easter to grow in the faith. What is really providential in the work and legacy of San Cyrillo is that he documented his teachings which have come to us. His writings of over 1600 years ago prove that the Catholic Church is the same in teachings and beliefs in the late 300s as she is today. Nothing has changed.
"The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes’?"
I had an unforgettable experience with our key Scripture for today: "The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone." In the first experience, this was quoted to me by the Head of Personnel of a large company when he handed me a letter of promotion. The background was this: After a period of internationalization, everyone believed an immediate promotion was in the works for me. It never came till five years later.
The second experience with this Scripture came when the job was gone after three years. A regional manager I had known not too well quoted the Scripture to me when he learned I was no longer with the company. This key Scripture is a Messianic prophecy applying to Jesus.
What am I to make of this Scripture? God wants us to understand a central truth of Salvation. This truth is called Divine Providence. It can be understood as Divine Plan, Blueprint, Purpose, Design. God governs all things from Beginning to End through His Divine Providence. We see it in our first Reading today. Joseph was sold by his siblings and ended up in Egypt as a slave. This seemingly blind act of jealousy was part of God's Plan to save the family of Jacob and make Joseph the Prince of Egypt.
The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus was all part of God's plan for the salvation of humanity. This plan was conceived long ago and faithfully executed. The doctrine of Divine Providence has been called the most beautiful and comforting doctrine in the Deposit of Faith.
Mary answered: Be it done to me according to Your Plan. And the Word became Flesh.

In-depth review of Year Zero for the TNYJ-3 Remedy. - Addendum_2 - Final.
This year has been an extremely bizarre experience for me on a very personal level, due to multiple factors, the first of which being this sudden switch in my overall mindset and overall sense of absolute hope and willpower on December 30th, 2021, despite the mental devastation the year caused me. Throughout the course of this year, I have grown to attribute the sudden switch in both mindset and outlook to be the initial hope I had from very early 2020. The second reason for this is because of the very powerful drive and motivation I had during the first sixth of the year, from January to February. I was so driven to make progress that by March, I was burnt out on a physical level. Speaking of March, on March 7th, 2022, the first notable negative event occurred, where my great-grandmother, Margret Hurworth-Seal died in her sleep of sepsis at age 92. At first, I was neutral about it, until March 8th and 9th, when it really began to sink in. Due to this event, three songs were composed by each of the following aliases: Hades Vortexium, Vantablack and Spectralon. The first two composing two individual works in direct response, whilst Spectralon went on to participate in a collaborative piece between itself, Hades Vortexium and Vantablack. By late-March, things began to stagnate a little due to the massive burnout caused by overworking myself a month prior.
In April, not much worth of note occurred, other than the fact that I wanted to document my entire life in musical form.
In May, I started cataloguing the songs and sounds for my own Life Mixtapes and separated my entire life lived thus far, into five distinct phases, dubbing them “TNYJ-0”, “TNYJ-1”, “TNYJ-2”, “TNYJ-3” and “TNYJ-4” respectively. All five phases (also named “stages”) spanning all of my years lived so far. The cataloguing specifically began on May 20th, 2022 and is ongoing to this day. May was also a bizarre month for the fact that I revisited Gram’s house for the first time in over 15 years and the weirder fact that the entire place, despite the renovations taking place at the time of the revisit, it felt very familiar. The revisit was specifically on May 22nd, merely 48 hours after the initial Life Mixtape cataloguing, which also proved my now weird and bizarre depth of memory. Then on the final day of the month, May 31st, I visited my Nana’s house on my own and in the complete absence of my parents for the first time in about 16 years.
In June, nothing much happened aside from the fact that my more ““known”” Hypertone career turned 2 years old and the commitment of doing shop runs along with the occasional housework.
July was a weird month, akin to May. It was the final month at the college and the first month of having short hair for the first time in about a year. Outside of that, July was the first time I ever hung out with a close friend outside of school in over five years. At home, I (mostly) sat in my room, occasionally spending time with family and doing housework.
In August, my final ever Hypertone song as “Vortex Reaper” hit 2K views on YouTube, thanks to some kid named “DJ Jayden” sampling it in an FnF song for a mod. As a celebration of the anniversary, I did a remix EP for it and it was released on August 26th, 2022.
In September, school picked up again, and thus started “18th year - Salvation - Stage 5: Academic Continuation”. However, the one (good) thing about September is that the debut EP from my duo band project “TeaL” was completed after almost two entire months. As well as the implementation of “Phantom Vibrations”, an alias that focuses on Infinitesimal Slow Music (ISM). Then the most bizarre event of this decade so far (since the outbreak of COVID-19) happened: Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, died. It will probably be the weirdest notable event of mine and everyone else’s (who lived to *witness it (hear about it, at least)) life.
During October, the month was rather average, akin to September, until the 16th. On 16/10/22, I have experienced the biggest and most deepest blow to my mental health, mindset, motivation and my immediate family, caused by my parents separating as a result of another argument that they had in the evening of 15/10/22. Since then, I have been battling internally moreso than I ever have during this entire year. On Halloween, I went ghost hunting with my father, videoing a 6-part series to document the most memorable Halloween in quite a long while.
In November, I had the most memorable birthday in a long, long time, I got a PC, Gaming Keyboard and Mouse and TWS i12 Bluetooth earphones. I went to the pub with both my parents, having a great time! Other than my birthday, nothing much of note occurred.
This month, however, has been more eventful than the previous. By a large sum. My PC got inspected for damage after not booting up, I got it back exactly on Christmas Day, with it being both setup and reset, I started making music on it straight away. Starting the final large-scale project of my career pertaining to albums: a 404-track LP album, titled “Absence Of God”, which is still in development. Due to my PC’s lack of internet connectivity, the tracks will be released at a later date, however, they’ll still be released very early-on in the new year.
This year has been a success in regard to the intended mission heading into it, given that it was meant to be “Mission Progress” and a “Test” for the remedy’s initiation.
Next year will be better because I intend to put more work and drive into it.

The Top Art News Stories of 2017—Part 2
Here’s part two of the top 20 art world news stories from this year, arranged in chronological order.
11 Several former top South Korean government officials received prison time for their roles in blacklisting thousands of artists in the country.
A court handed down stiff sentences on July 27th to several prominent political figures in South Korea who were accused of abuse of power and perjury, among other charges, the New York Times reported. The accused were top members of the administration of ousted South Korean president Park Geun-hye, who was removed from office by the country’s constitutional court for corruption in March. They faced charges for their role in secretly ordering the blacklist of thousands of artists because of their politics, barring them receiving government funding or support. News of the blacklist first surfaced last year, prompting widespread outrage in South Korea. Among the six officials sentenced is Kim Ki-choon, former chief of staff to President Park Geun-hye, who received three years after being convicted for creating the blacklist, then lying about his role before South Korea’s parliament. Kim Jong-deok, a former culture minister, was sentenced to two years for similar charges.
12 The Guggenheim pulled three artworks featuring live animals from an exhibition amid allegations that the works contained animal cruelty.
The Guggenheim removed two videos and one sculpture from “Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World” on September 25th, citing unspecified but “explicit and repeated threats of violence” as the reason. The exhibition opened without the three works on October 6th. Controversy around the exhibition erupted in late September and initially centered on Dogs That Cannot Touch Each Other (2003), a video work by artists Sun Yuan and Peng Yu that shows restrained dogs on treadmills running in an attempt to fight one another. The work quickly drew criticism, including a petition calling for “cruelty-free” exhibitions at the museum, which gained 600,000 signatures in five days. Two other works, A Case Study of Transference (1994) by Xu Bing, a video showing live pigs mating, and Theater of the World by Huang Yong Ping, the exhibition’s titular work of live insects and reptiles devouring each other, were also not shown. While animal rights activists and some art historians applauded the move, critics charged that the museum had censored the works. “As an arts institution committed to presenting a multiplicity of voices, we are dismayed that we must withhold works of art,” the museum said in a statement. “Freedom of expression has always been and will remain a paramount value of the Guggenheim.”
13 The United States withdrew from UNESCO, the United Nations cultural organization.
The U.S. Department of State cited “the need for fundamental reform” and “continuing anti-Israel bias” at UNESCO, along with “concerns with mounting arrears” owed by the U.S. when the move was announced on October 12th. The tangible financial and legal impact of leaving UNESCO, experts say, are few. The U.S. had its UNESCO voting rights suspended in 2013, after two years of refusing to pay dues, following the acceptance of Palestine into the cultural organization as a full member in 2011. The withdrawal halts the increase in owed dues that the U.S. would have to pay if it wished to reenter UNESCO at any point in the future. America’s annual contributions amounted to, then, around $80 million, or 22 percent of UNESCO’s budget, and the U.S. owes in the region of $550 million to the organization. Audrey Azoulay, who was elected as UNESCO’s director-general just one day after the U.S. announced its withdrawal, has said that U.S.’s departure is “not the beginning and end” of the agency.
14 Beatrix Ruf resigned as director of Amsterdam’s influential Stedelijk Museum amid allegations of conflicts of interest.
The allegations stemmed from Ruf’s operation of a private art advisory service while serving as director, and the terms attached to a major donation to the institution last year. Ruf’s resignation came after a pair of investigations were published by the Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad. One of the reports revealed that Ruf earned €437,306 in 2015 from her private art advisory company, Currentmatters. The Stedelijk’s annual report from the same year—which specifically provides a space for the museum to disclose its director’s activities outside of her employment there—includes no reference to Currentmatters (which is registered in Switzerland), nor to any income she derived from it. A statement posted on the museum’s website on October 17th cites “speculations in the media over the past weeks that may have an impact on [our] reputation” as the reason for Ruf’s departure. Ruf called the allegations a “misunderstanding,” in a November interview with the New York Times, telling the paper that she “reported everything in good faith” to the Stedelijk Museum and that the payment to Currentmatters was mainly for services rendered prior to her assuming the role of artistic director. Ruf is frequently cited as among the contemporary art world’s most influential players, and served as the director of the Kunsthalle Zürich for 12 years before taking up her post at the Stedelijk in 2014.
15 Several prominent art world figures—including Artforum publisher Knight Landesman and artist Chuck Close—were accused of sexual misconduct.
Landesman, the longtime co-publisher of Artforum, resigned on October 25th following allegations of sexual harassment first reported by Rachel Corbett in artnet News. The same day, Amanda Schmitt, a former employee of Artforum, sued both the publication and Landesman for defamation and retaliation, among other allegations, asserting that she was sexually harassed both during and after her time at the publication. Both Landesman and Artforum each moved to dismiss the lawsuit in December. In October, the publication vowed to “transform Artforum into a place of transparency, equity, and with zero tolerance for sexual harassment of any kind.” Landesman is one of several high-profile men in the artworld to be accused of sexual misconduct in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, including former Jewish Museum deputy director Jens Hoffmann and Benjamin Genocchio, who was removed as executive director of the Armory Show following allegations made against him in the New York Times. Artist Chuck Close was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in December, including one who said he had invited her to pose for him before asking her to strip naked and then made lewd comments about her vagina. Close denied the specific comments, but apologized to any he made feel uncomfortable. “Last time I looked, discomfort was not a major offense,” he told the New York Times.
16 Beijing’s Ullens Center for Contemporary Art was purchased by a Chinese investment group, securing the 798 Art District landmark’s future.
Art collector Guy Ullens, who co-founded and financially supported the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), put the institution up for sale in 2016. It spent an uncertain year on the market before selling for an undisclosed amount to the investor group in October. Previously a private company, the UCCA will now operate as a non-profit and tax-exempt foundation. Director of UCCA, Philip Tinari, has said he expects the new status as a foundation will allow the institution to raise additional funding and improve exhibitions and visitor traffic. He also affirmed that the museum has received assurance that it would remain in the 798 Art District for the long term. “Our mission continues to be a desire to put Chinese art in a global context, to provoke and stimulate a discussion about a vital part of art history,” he told the South China Morning Post. Ullens’s decision to sell the museum raised questions about the sustainability of China’s private museums and art centers, institutions that are individually owned and dependent on those benefactors for funding. The center is slated to soon undergo renovations, reopening in 2018 with a solo show of artist Xu Bing.
17 Documenta 14 ran a major €5.4 million ($6.3 million) budget deficit.
Curated by Adam Szymczyk, the fourteenth edition of Documenta ran up a deficit due in large part to Szymczyk’s decision to host the quinquennial art exhibition in Athens, Greece, in addition to the event’s regular location of Kassel, Germany, according to the findings of an independent auditor. The deficit prompted the resignation of Annette Kulenkampff, the CEO of Documenta’s parent company, on November 27th, artnet News reported, along with criticism of Szymczyk’s handling of the event’s financials. But the curator and his team have remained defiant since news of the deficit was first reported by German daily HNA in September, arguing that all of the Documenta stakeholders approved of the dual-venue format, and that “the money flowing into the city through the making of Documenta greatly exceeds the amount the city and region spend on the exhibition.” Documenta’s artists have come out in support of their curator, penning two open letters in defense of the show. Despite initial concerns that the cost overrun could endanger future editions, officials confirmed that Documenta’s 15th edition will run from June 18th to September 25th, 2022 in Kassel, The Art Newspaper reported.
18 Abu Dhabi acquired Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi (c. 1500) for a record-smashing $450 million.
The work sold after 19 minutes of bidding at Christie’s post-war and contemporary sale on November 15th. The final $450 million price, including fees, is the most ever paid for a work of art, well above the rumored $300 million that billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin paid for Willem de Kooning’s Interchange (1955) in 2015. The identity of the buyer of the Leonardo remained a mystery at the time, but an article in the Wall Street Journal in early December identified a little-known Saudi Arabian prince, operating as a proxy for the country’s crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman, as the bidder. Saudi authorities quickly denied that the crown prince had been behind the work’s purchase, and Christie’s released a statement confirming that the work was acquired by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism for the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which opened to the public on November 11th. One person “briefed on the deal” told the Financial Times that the Saudi government had purchased the work for the United Arab Emirates, the federation that includes Abu Dhabi, saying, “It is supposed to be a state to state gift, like when France gave the Statue of Liberty to the US.”
19 A tomb in Jerusalem was built by ancient Romans to mark the burial place of Jesus Christ, research suggests.
Researchers tested mortar found inside the purported tomb of Christ, which is located within Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, to determine if its age matches historical accounts of the site. Some scholars had questioned whether the church—which has been destroyed, damaged, and rebuilt several times over thousands of years—actually marks the site that ancient Romans (dispatched to the region by Emperor Constantine), identified as Christ’s burial place in around 326 A.D., according to historical records. Previously, the oldest materials in the Church have been dated to the much later Crusader period. But new research released on November 28th by a team from the National Technical University of Athens found that the mortar used within the tomb, opened in October of 2016 for the first time in centuries, does indeed date back to roughly 345 AD, suggesting that it is the tomb identified by ancient Romans. “While it is archaeologically impossible to say that the tomb is the burial site of an individual Jew known as Jesus of Nazareth,” wrote National Geographic, “new dating results put the original construction of today’s tomb complex securely in the time of Constantine.”
20 British artist Lubaina Himid became the first woman of color and the oldest artist ever to win the Turner Prize, Britain’s most prestigious art award.
Himid was presented with the award on December 5th at a ceremony held in the northern English city of Hull, where her work is on view until January 7th in an exhibition dedicated to artists shortlisted for the prize. The 63-year-old Zanzibar-born artist—whose work deals with race and black identity—grew up in London and lives in the northern city of Preston. In her acceptance speech, broadcast live on BBC News, Himid thanked the Turner Prize jury and her supporters. “To the people who have stopped me in the streets of Preston and Hull to wish me luck—thank you, it worked,” she said. Himid also thanked the art historians who wrote about her practice in what she called the “wilderness years.” Administered by London’s Tate, the Turner Prize was founded in 1984 and “aims to promote public debate around new developments in contemporary British art” with the annual £25,000 award going to a British artist deemed to have an “outstanding exhibition or other presentation” in a given year.

BizTalk Radio’s Arlington On Tap Notes For April 18th, 2017 By O.K. Carter
Yes fellow Americans, it is TAX day. Midnight, TONIGHT is the from whom the feds toll deadline. IRS should give me a parade since I actually filed yesterday instead of piecing together a last minute extension – it’s form 4868 if you need to go on line to get one. Just keep in mind that you’re also supposed to include what you think you owe and if you come up short there will be a little penalty. Or not so little if you fibbed a lot. By the way, if you were hoping for tax relief from President Trump, his Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin now says getting tax reform legislation Trump by August is unlikely. Mnuchin (love that name) said the August timeline is “highly aggressive to not realistic at this point.” Now he says it’ll be this year anyway, only by year end – don’t take any bets on that. By the way, America needs your tax dollars because according to the IRS, 45 percent of Americans pay no income tax whatsoever.
TWO INCHES of rain at my house yesterday, no surprise this being spring storm season.
Bet you didn’t know you can purchase certain supplies tax-free during the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday, April 22-24 – this Saturday through Monday. There’s no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase. These include: Batteries (the kind for your flashlight, not your boat), fuel containers, first aid kits, mobile telephone batteries, mobile telephone chargers, and flashlights priced at less than $75; hurricane shutters and emergency ladders priced at less than $300; and portable generators priced at less than $3,000.
The Arlington Council passed a toughened smoking ordinance last week 6-3, leaving bingo halls alone but eliminating smoking from most other places…sexually oriented businesses (if you still find one here in Puritan City), pool halls and bars. It’s still not law because it has to pass a second reading next Tuesday, which is normally easy…but not this time. Arlington Republican Club has chimed in saying its members voted almost two to one against the tougher standards. The electronic vapor smoking biz has suddenly gotten alarmed, and the bar owners are organizing. Long story made shorter, expect quite a crowd at City Hall next Tuesday asking the council to remove the item from what’s called a consent agenda and reconsider it. Everybody involved is being lobbied…more proof that no matter what happens in the world, somebody’s ox gets gored. Other than that, not much attention is being paid to other politics, whether it’s city council elections or a couple of Propositions asking voters to fund a new senior citizen center and to set up a civil service system for firefighters. Star-Telegram editorial endorsements are out…early voting April 24, election May 6…
The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Jeff Williams for mayor, Kathryn Wilemon for District 4, Lana Wolff for District 5 and Michael Glaspie for District 8. District 3 (think Southeast Arlington) Robert Rivera not running for re-election, so four people vying for the job…leaders seem to be Roxanne Thalma, Marvin Sutton. Roxanne Thalman gets S-T nod.
Tarrant County College Trustee.. One of the few trustees with an even longer career in public education, Diane Patrick of Arlington, is running for re-election to District 3. Patrick has served more than 25 years as an elected official on every level of the education system, including the Arlington school board, the State Board of Education and the Texas House, where she served on education committees. Challenger Sean Hayward of Arlington is a consultant who wants trustees to campaign more actively on behalf of public education. He should be encouraged to continue his advocacy. The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends Diane Patrick in Tarrant County College District 3.
Proposition 2 on the May 6 ballot is aimed at creating a system for firefighter personnel that would keep political pressure out of the firefighter hiring and promotion processes. S-T says if Proposition 2 is approved, an extra layer of bureaucracy — a local civil service commission — would be added to oversee those processes.
Fairness and lack of “politics” in the fire department’s personnel office need to be a priority to Arlington firefighters and the residents they serve, but a new level of bureaucracy isn’t the best way to handle it. Arlington voters shot down civil service twice before. The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends a vote against Proposition 2.
Prop 1. $45 million adult learning center i.e. Senior Center. As welcome as the center is, mobility to and from it remains a concern. The chosen site is on the west side of Arlington, across the street from the fire department’s training center. Since Arlington doesn’t have public transit, this location could be difficult for many residents to reach. District 4 council member Kathryn Wilemon says the site is “near perfect.” Lake Arlington is close by, new “empty nester” homes are being built nearby, and the center is off one of the most accessible streets, Green Oaks Boulevard. The center is scheduled to be completed in 2022, so that gives the city some time to think more about transportation issues. Moving ahead with a high-end senior center is worth the possible mobility headaches the S-T says. The Star-Telegram Editorial Board recommends a vote for Proposition 1 in Arlington.
Home prices in Arlington…been saying for years homes in Arlington an astonishing bargain…maybe no more. The competition for available homes has driven up median home prices. There’s less than a two month supply, the norm being five or six months. In Tarrant County, the median price is now $210,000, a 15.4 percent increase from a year ago, according to the Arlington Board of Realtors and Texas A&M. In Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, the median price has jumped 13.5 percent to $244,000. In Arlington alone, the median climbed to $195,500, up 18.5 percent.
After the economy crashed in 2007 and 2008, companies that specialized in building the type of moderately priced houses bought by first-time homebuyers and others went out of business…some haven’t returned. On a semi-related topic…. Development Corporation of Tarrant County (DCTC) has partnered with the City of Arlington to increase homeownership by constructing quality, affordable single-family workforce homes. Since 2011, 10 such homes have been constructed through the partnership. That’s a drop in the proverbial bucket but every little bit helps. As part of National Community Development Week, DCTC will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 20 to showcase three of its newly built houses in Arlington. All three of the houses are within walking distance of each other. The following locations will be showcased: 1100 and 1102 Sanford Street 401 Orange Street
Maybe you don’t want a single family residence? Pretty soon you can check out The chocolate-brown complex on Lamar Boulevard north of Interstate 30 (between Cooper and Collins near Rolling Hills Golf Club) that’s been taking shape for about a year. The four-story structure occupies land that once was home to three blighted apartment complexes built in the 1970s. It’s the first phase of the Arlington Commons, an upscale apartment complex that will be marketed to young urban professionals…i.e. millennials who often prefer lifestyles not requiring a lawnmower. It will feature big balconies and a roughly 450-space parking garage that the apartment building wraps around, almost hiding it from view. It will provide close parking spaces for tenants on the upper levels. Lots of downsizing seniors also seem to be interested. Pre-leasing starts in May, with the first occupancy in August. Where is it: 425 E. Lamar Blvd., on the north side of Lamar, between Ryan Plaza and Van Buren drives. The $50 million first phase sits on 5.6 acres of the 24-acre site. The four-phase, $200 million project would be built over the next 10 years with at least the originally planned 1,328 units---year that’s a lot of units. School district probably going nuts about it.

Save the date: May 9, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Maverick’s Bar and Grill, 601 E. Main St. “Before the world of social media and before the C-J was essentially blended into what is now the Arlington Star-Telegram, the Citizen-Journal dominated the role of informational gate keeper for what was important – or not – in suburban boomtown Arlington,” said Darovich. “The paper had a terrific run from 1897 until the 1990s.” Darovich adds, “Along the way the paper spawned a number of local legends with editors and publishers serving as everything from mayor to president of the chamber of commerce – and no they didn’t quite buy into the tradition of impartial journalistic observation. Some were what we’d call homers. They were also fabulous if eccentric story tellers and great stories in themselves.”
“Darovich knows of which she speaks,” said Mark Joeckel, co-host founder of Arlington on Tap with O.K. Carter – himself a former C-J editor. “She broke the proverbial glass ceiling by being the first female city editor of the C-J. Along the way she won more than a hundred state and national awards for writing – typically in features and columns – and was recently inducted into the Texas Intercollegiate Press Hall of Fame. One of the great honors a UT Arlington journalism student can achieve today is winning the Donna Darovich Scholarship.”

In-depth review of Year Zero for the TNYJ-3 Remedy.
The things I did in April, if I can actually recall, were several shop runs, helping out around the house every now-and-then and that’s basically it. The succeeding month, however, May, was a completely different story. Possibly the most bizarre month of this year, in terms of the earlier side.
Then, in the advent of this (current) month, the anniversary of my descent into madness is coming up. Because of what has occurred in my country (and around the world at large, for that matter), which have all been negative events, back-to-back. This has resulted in an internal battle between my two primary thought processes and outlooks on life and reality: Nihilistic pessimism from last year and hopeful optimism from this year. Resulting in very sudden switches between the two, of which are fighting for control. So far, this month has been great, with the implementation of Herja Sonus, on October 1st, the alias focusing on unnerving music and compositions. At home (so far), I have been doing housework, unfortunately not spending time with family too much (as I should be doing). This aspect is harder to fix than one might realise, since we are in a post-COVID-19 age, where the lockdowns from 2020 and early-mid 2021 outright killed in-person interactions from within the homes of countless families due to the self-isolation policies enforced by the governments and health agencies. However, despite this truth, I will continue the attempts to remedy this, because I want to be an infinitely better person than I was during TNYJ-3.
Another thing (of utmost importance) that I forgot to note is the growing independence I have acquired. In late August, I cooked myself dinner completely independently. That is, to date, the absolute pinnacle of this year, in terms of practical function.

2022: 18th year - Salvation - Day 3.
Today I spent all day helping out around the house, tidying, washing up and spending time with my family. I woke up at 10:00 and got out of bed at half 10, went to the shop to get milk (X2 two-pints of milk) from Co-Op and then I got myself some small treats from Messenger. I had to use my own money, and I went because my younger sister didn’t bother asking mum and didn’t even have the consideration to buy more milk, since we ran out. So I took it upon myself to help out by doing it of my own accord.
I also spent more time with family as well and didn’t give myself that much free-time and alone time, because I wanted to help out as much as I possibly could.
The third day of 18th year - Salvation has concluded and I already see the reward of salvation being achieved by the end of the year.
I haven’t been this happy in so long, I am also insanely proud of myself for what I have done today as well, since I am making a positive impact at home, and this will also be the case at college as well, either tomorrow or 5/1/21.
I plan on documenting every day of this year in particular because of personal progress, NOT for the validation from others. I am documenting this year because I want people to know about the progress I am making towards my own personal salvation, after 2 very dark years of my life, with 2021 being the most darkest of them, and me finally taking it upon myself to leave it all behind, and start anew.

Second Day of 18th year - Salvation
I played some games today (mostly Rocket League) and I experienced some rather hilarious toxicity in casual online matches.
Usually, I would be toxic in return (I was toxic myself, from ~mid 2020 to January 2nd, 2022 (today)), but I refrained from doing so, in accordance to my new mindset and motivation to be a better person. I will say that it was harder than I initially thought, but I prevailed and didn’t succumb to the urge and instinct to be toxic. I was toxic in the game for so long that it became instinctual, but I resisted that instinct to be horrendously spiteful. I am very proud of myself today.
I also spent most of today outside my room (as an obvious part of being less reclusive and antisocial at home) today and spent time with my sisters, of which are younger than I am. (I have 3 sisters, one born on 301108, another born on 040110 and the youngest born in July 2018). I am aware that I need to cook dinner if my mum and dad aren’t awake, and I am very willing to acquire that skill, especially this year.
Overall I have had a great second day of 2022: 18th year - Salvation.
I am also considering naming the next few years of my life Salvation, considering I am exiting adolescence and entering adulthood.
I would call this phase of my life ‘Real Salvation’ or something else. The name might change with time, as I have just started this new phase of my life.

So far, my mental health is still shit, however, the thing that’s keeping me going and searching for the pure light of hope is my upcoming birthday. The battle is still raging on, with the desire for happiness still prevalent, despite my depressive state of mind (as of 2/11/22).
Today has been a great day, despite sleeping in. I spent quite a decent amount of time chatting with my mum and did the washing up for the first time in quite a while.
There will be a final in-depth review at the end of this month, before the overall review at the end of the year.
