The marketability of superstars & megastars account for huge amounts of commercial growth within football clubs. Take Salah for example, as he became a superstar at Liverpool all of his Egyptian following basically became Liverpool fans overnight.

Players like Ronaldo and Messi are known across the globe and are so pivotal in the recognition of a brand in developing markets. Whilst Liverpool won't be boosting their commercial success with Ronaldo or Messi, thankfully there is a 20 year old superstar acquisition on the horizon that will be the closest of his generation to emulate the success of these megastars on and off the field.

Enter Kylian Mbappé Lottin, born in Paris, France on 20 December 1998.

Liverpool's new kit deal:

Shirt sales account for a considerable amount of sponsor revenue. In years previous this wouldn't have had a direct effect on the club's profit and loss because all the revenue would go to the supplier as part of the previously agreed long running deal. As of today, with the high court ruling we've agreed a deal to start next season with a 20% cut of shirt sales revenue with the biggest sports apparel brand on the planet. Shirt sales now matter.

The important shit - crunching the numbers:

Mbappe's Instagram Following on the 25th October 2018 was 20,816,000. Exactly a year later that following is 35,200,000 accounting for a yearly growth of 69%.

Below is Mbappe's expected instagram growth over the next 4 years based on his compounded yearly growth.

* For reference despite Ronaldo's 187m followers he's still growing at a rate of 65% a year so there isn't much of a plateau.

With a fairly conservative estimate of 2% of Mbappe's instagram following buying his shirt the purchase revenue has been accounted for below. (P.S I say conservative, 2% is still well fucking high and I've totally pulled the figure out of my ass.)

Assuming we purchase Mbappe in summer 2020 the total income to LFC from shirt sales over the next 4 seasons would be £147.48m.

If we were to purchase in summer 2021 the income over the following 3 seasons would be £133.2m.

As you can see, despite the Mbappe transfer likely to cost the club in excess of £200m, more than 50% of that could be recuperated in shirt sales and not to mention all the other commercial growth and brand recognition he'll bring to the club.

How Nike will ensure Mbappe chooses Liverpool over our rivals:

I've also seen a lot of people speculating that Nike will help us with this deal, Nike are currently the kit supplier at PSG and are already benefiting from Mbappe in a Nike shirt so this is hearsay but the one thing to note is the only other contenders that will have the ability to lure Mbappe away are Real Madrid (Adidas), Manchester United (Adidas) or Manchester City (Puma) with Barcelona having spent serious amounts of money during the last few seasons. With that being said, Nike won't want to see one of their prodigies wearing the kits of any of the aforementioned clubs.
