Ep 209: The Phantom Horse of Greensboro
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
– Revelation, Chapter 6, Verse 8, King James Version
Description:
Many of us have taken an adventurous expedition to check out some local, notorious spot to see if we could witness or sense some evidence of a past famous or infamous incident. Most of the time, one only returns with a minor anecdote or pictures of an ordinary location bereft of anything noteworthy. The more realistic purpose is not so much to find a ghoulish memento but to imagine what it must've been like to have been there when it happened. But what if such an outing starts with strange coincidences and ends with the adventurers enduring a paranormal event seemingly unrelated to the original incident? This is the sort of tale we'll hear from our good friend, graphic designer, and illustrator Tommy Beaver about the time some friends went to check out the scene of a horrific crime that happened in Summerfield, North Carolina, almost 13 miles northwest of Greensboro. On June 3, 1985, the incident in question occurred when at the end of a murder spree and police pursuit, Fritz Klenner and his first cousin, lover, and accomplice, Susie Newsome Lynch, ended their standoff detonating a bomb in their Chevrolet Blazer. Klenner and Lynch had blown themselves up along with Lynch's already deceased two sons who were in the vehicle rather than face arrest. The site of this shocking finale was what the friends were hoping to explore, but their souvenir was an unsettling experience they'll never forget. Strangely, a mysterious white horse suddenly appeared to encounter the group, except that this creature may not have been a horse at all. Many people have claimed to see a spectral white horse, and the ancient Britons believed a sacred white horse was one's ride to the afterlife. Yet these friends may forever wonder, as will we, what was the connection of this beast to the tragedy if there is one? And if this wasn't a horse as we know it, what sort of monster haunts the location of one of North Carolina's most ghastly crimes?
Location:
The intersection of Strader Road & North Carolina State Road 150 in Summerfield, near where Fritz Klenner and Susie Newsom Lynch blew themselves up in their Chevy Blazer after a crime spree and police pursuit on June 3, 1985, and where Tommy’s friends saw the mysterious “horse.”

2021 Chevrolet Blazer RS Review: Looks Like A Camaro SUV And Gets Its V6 Too

2021 Chevrolet Blazer RS Review: Looks Like A Camaro SUV And Gets Its V6 Too
Jeep has the Wrangler, Kia has the Bronco, and Chevy has got the Blazer, right? Well yes, this really is now true, but few four wheel drive fans will utter these 3 in the same sentence anymore except if they’re talking about GM’s missed chance.
Rugged, go-anywhere Sports utility vehicles are all the rage these days, offering well and helping to beef up brand name images that, trucks aside, are becoming a bit soft around their sides since the majority of sport utilities are actually based on cars. Most don’t actually attempt to look like traditional SUVs any longer, let alone claim any territory from the beaten path. There’s nothing incorrect with this, of course , and truth be told the particular advent of car-based SUVs has brought all of us some amazing new performance resources, the only controversy, in this case, being conditions storied old 4x4 name for just one of the more sports car-like cars GM has ever created. The original K5 Blazer is legendary amongst 4x4 fans, so it must trouble Chevy’s devoted to see it reincarnated into a car-based crossover.
Trevor Hofmann or HotCars. com
From a design point alone, you would be forgiven for thinking the particular new Blazer was some type of bulked up Camaro , the styling obviously influenced by the bowtie brand’s muscle car, especially in as-tested, blacked-out RS trim. It definitely grabbed my attention, with sufficient sharp edges to amplify the smooth curves. I must admit so far as five-seat, mid-size crossovers go, it is one impressive ride, but truthfully, the new Blazer would’ve pulled readers and concurrently sold well (which it does) by any other title, which might be reason enough for fans from the brand to get a bit hot below their collars about the just-mentioned skipped opportunity.
Trevor Hofmann or HotCars. com
While many FoMoCo enthusiasts are barely happy about the even more egregious Mustang EV SUV misnomer, at least they have got some respite from their anger along with respect to the new Bronco . It’s a bona fide path buster, worthy of the legendary title. The Blazer is, well, not really. It’s a sharp looking crossover that is no doubt pleasing plenty of cool fathers, moms, and kids for searching racier than their neighbors whom opted for an Edge or god prohibit, Journey, but it’s simply no mud- and rock-spewing Wrangler .
Associated: 2020 Chevy Blazer: The Coolest Functions Found Inside The SUV
Of course , I’ve resided with Wranglers for weeks during a period and can attest they’re not for everybody. The Blazer, while probably not globally loved stylistically, is a pretty simple crossover utility that performs loved ones duties well, hauling five within sumptuousness and providing a competitive allotment associated with easily accessible cargo space. The Kmart, while greatly improved in recent years, will be comparatively impractical. That I personally like the Wrangler and only appreciate the Blazer displays where my priorities lie.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. possuindo
Being that will my opinion doesn’t matter with respect to your own priorities, including styling, I’ll merely say that some will find this Blazer RS a bit over the top. Fortunately, Chevy backs up all the go-fast RS enthusiasm and Camaro design cues having a slightly detuned version of that overall performance car’s 3. 6-liter V6, the particular Blazer’s top-tier mill making a delicious 308 horsepower and 270 ft-lb of torque instead of the Camaro’s 335 plus 284 respectively.
Whilst these numbers don’t combine designed for anything close to the relatively tame looking Edge ST ’s 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft, they nevertheless result in a few serious speed for this class. I actually timed my Blazer RS specialist off the line and it only required about 6. 5 seconds in order to zip from standstill to a hundred km/h, which is about half a second lengthier than the Edge ST requires to offer the same speed, but nevertheless respectable likewise.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. com
Those people not wanting as much performance may opt for the Blazer’s 2 . 0-liter turbo-four that makes 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. I have little question this entry-level engine moves the particular mid-size SUV along at a fair clip, but its output figures continue to be low for this segment, making me personally wonder why Chevy didn’t make use of the Camaro-specified version of this same motor that’s good for a respective 275 and 295. If so, the base Blazer would’ve easily outclassed its important competitor, the comparative Edge creating a significantly stronger 250 horsepower plus 275 lb-ft from its 2 . 0l turbo-four, but for reasons unknown, this particular Chevy mill comes up short.
Related: Provide A Trailer: 1970 Chevy Blazer Restomod Looks Ready For Summer Enjoyable
I am aware that I’ve complained regarding the 2 . 0-liter’s output, but support yourself, Chevy also offers a second . 5-liter four making a mere 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft torque capacity, which is usually the level of performance present in the compact SUV class. Whenever factoring in the base Edge motor is the one just mentioned, that is already stronger than Chevy’s mid-range mill, plus that entry Advantage doesn’t cost much more than the simplest Blazer, I can’t see a lots of Chevy buyers opting for this basic lump (Canadian buyers will likely be fine to hear the 2. 5 isn’t even on offer).
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. com
The Blazer adds 1 additional forward gear across the series, however , GM’s new nine-speed automated theoretically making travel more efficient. I can go into more detail below, however for now I’ll say it changes smoothly and probably quick sufficient for most in this class, but strangely no steering wheel paddles were one of them sporty RS model.
Instead, Chevy adds a thumb-actuated rocker switch on the shift button as has been done with other versions in the GM arsenal, and while type of slick at first experience, it’s not much simpler or any more useful than going the entire shift lever back and forth. A good SUV that looks this quick and is so well-endowed under the engine deserves real shift paddles, and am say this knowing full properly that most owners will likely only make use of them on occasion, but when they do (and above all to GM, that may be during the preliminary test drive) they’ll want to really feel fully engaged, and paddles would be the only way.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. com
Aiding my tester’s overall performance was a grippy all-wheel-drive powertrain, which usually meant wheel slip was reduced when getting hard on the accelerator in inclement weather, but make sure “x4” is engaged. Yes, surprisingly it isn’t really automatic AWD, but that’s simply no bad thing when wanting to conserve fuel, as you can leave it within “x2” on dry pavement. The rotating selector for swapping between your two drive modes can be found around the lower console, this knob furthermore including sport, mountain, and dragging modes.
Along with the solid engine performance comes a nice looking overall exhaust, right? Kind of. I think Chevy might’ve been concerned that everything sounding too sporty in this course would wake up the kidlets whenever dad let his hair straight down, not to mention give mom a head ache from highway droning, so the auditory note doesn’t exactly excite the senses. Then again, it does not sound anemic at full accelerator either.
Trevor Hofmann or HotCars. com
Likewise, the aforementioned transmission runs via its nine gears like the actual automatic it is, not a slip-sliding CVT that some of its competitors make use of. It was smooth when left within drive and kicked down good enough for passing maneuvers, but when having a manual shifter in sport setting it held its gear too long, particularly from 2nd in order to 3rd. I was able to count two-plus seconds from the point of making the particular shift to the transmission responding, which usually just might be why Chevy select not to include paddles. Therefore , We left it in full-automatic setting and enjoyed the Blazer intended for what it is, a comfortable cruiser that’s fast enough when you need it, but not meant for pull racing or for that matter, carving sides.
Associated: 2021 Chevrolet Traverse Gains Night time, Sport And RS Special Versions
Do not get me wrong, as this RS model’s managing was better than many in its course, but honestly not as impressive with the corners as its styling initially experienced me hoping it would be, and not since engaging all around as some competitors. I must say it puts comfort prior to performance, which is hardly a problem in this particular soft-roader segment, and to that finish, its ride quality is very great, even over rough, patchy sidewalk and on gravel roads.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. com
The Blazer RS’ interior goes even further to combine the performance theme with comforting characteristics, including plenty of black leather, material trim, piano black surfacing, plus red accents, the latter used for the environment vent surrounds, seat perforations, plus stitching in key areas. The particular fit, finish, materials quality, plus attention to detail isn’t up to The cadillac levels, of course , or even an comparative Buick, but it’s easily upon par with a comparable Ford or even Volkswagen, if not quite up to Toyota, Hyundai, or Mazda’s ever-improving criteria.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. com
We especially like Chevy’s electronics, the particular Blazer RS’ gauge cluster a variety of analog dials flanking a large 7. 0-inch multi-information display, filled with brilliant, colorful graphics and useful features, while the main infotainment touchscreen is usually attractively designed as well, with increased resolution than some rivals plus an overall graphics design that I choose over most competitors. It’s simple to use too and comes packed with all of the expected features, including Android Car, Apple CarPlay, navigation, a back-up camera, etcetera.
People who like the feel of wide-open areas will appreciate my tester’s substantial panoramic sunroof, while other functions include heated front seats, the heatable steering wheel rim, dual-zone automated climate control, a hands-free strength liftgate, a sportier grille, all of the blacked-out exterior trim mentioned previously, and unique 20-inch alloys.
Trevor Hofmann / HotCars. possuindo
Claimed gas economy is good considering RS overall performance , at 20 mpg town, 27 highway and 22 coupled with FWD, or 19, 26 plus 21 respectively with AWD (13. 1 L/100km, 9. 4 plus 11. 4 with standard 4WD in Canada), especially when comparing this to the less potent engine options in the Blazer lineup that just slightly improve on efficiency, while Advantage numbers are right in the exact same ballpark.
If you need the five-seat, mid-size crossover SUV for the family and gear, but don’t wish to be the gaping yawn of the community, the Blazer RS just might end up being for you. Pricing starts at $41, 995 with FWD or $44, 998 with AWD (or $46, 698 CAD with standard 4WD in Canada), while lesser Blazers start from $29, 995 in foundation L trim ($37, 198 CAD in base LT trim). Almost all said, the Blazer is certainly a deserving contender.

The fuel efficiency varies based on the engine but the default is about 21 mpg in the city on the 4 cylinders, 22 mpg on the turbo 4 cylinder, and 19 mpg on the V6, all excellent for a powerful mid-size SUV. CarGurus: Our Automotive Highlights of 2019
Few could argue that 2019 has been a fascinating year in the world of motoring – but what are your automotive highlights of 2019? We’d love for you to tell us in the comments section below this article, or via the CarGurus Facebook page. To get you started, below our writers have put forward their own automotive highlights of 2019, from pickups to Porsches.
Chris Knapman, Editor, CarGurus UK
Will time show that 2019 was the year the electric car broke through? There’s certainly been no shortage of new products using battery power, from the Porsche Taycan and latest Nissan Leaf to the impossible-to-ignore Tesla Cybertruck.
Combine these new cars with an improving charging infrastructure and you’d expect the tide of public opinion might start showing signs of softening towards EVs. That was certainly the case according to our own research, which revealed that the number of consumers who consider themselves as likely to own an EV in the next five years jumped to 26% in 2019, up from 15% in 2018. This is most likely just the start, too: Who would bet against that number having grown significantly by this time next year?
Back in the world of internal combustion, my honorable mention for 2019 must go to the latest generation of Porsche 911, the 992. Not only does it masterfully update the legendary 911 format for this hi-tech age with its fabulous interior and ultra-sleek exterior, but in terms of performance, the 992 moves even the basic, non-GT or Turbo models firmly into supercar territory. In fact, if I had to narrow down my automotive highlights of 2019 into just one, fleeting moment, it’d be the surreal three-point-something seconds it took our four-wheel drive, PDK-equipped 911 test car to fire from 0-62 mph.
Electric vehicles might be coming, but internal combustion is still more than capable of taking your breath away.

I’m struck by the number of performance wagons and SUVs we saw introduced in 2019. Fans of the Audi S4 Avant rejoiced when the German automaker revealed it was bringing its RS 6 Avant to North America. It packs a 4.0-liter V8 that makes 591 hp and 590 lb-ft, hits 60 mph in about 3 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 189 mph.
Just as exciting was the introduction of the RS Q8, a performance SUV packing the same power as the RS 6 Avant. We had a chance to take a closer look at the 2020 RS Q8 at the 2019 LA Auto Show, and it adds plenty of features aside from the engine, like 23-inch wheels and an RS-specific gloss-black grille.
youtube
And in the EV space, electric trucks took center stage: Bollinger brought us a production-ready version of its B2 electric truck, Tesla unveiled its unique Cybertruck, and Rivian gets closer to its production-ready model of the R1T. But are truck shoppers willing to make the switch from gas-powered to electric? It’s hard to say. In our yearly Truck Sentiment Survey, we found that 70% of shoppers were willing to switch brands, which is good news for these startup truckmakers. However, their high prices may keep shoppers away.
Steve Halloran, Editor, CarGurus US
With one colleague celebrating electric vehicles and another performance wagons and SUVs, I feel obliged to mention one 2019 highlight they didn’t: Ford’s live-streamed debut of the 2021 Mustang Mach-E just before the LA Auto Show. Ford’s decision to put the name and badge of its mighty Mustang on an electric crossover generated controversy, of course, but a pony-equipped vehicle with up to 300 miles of range, usable seating for 5, almost 60 cubic feet of cargo room, and a 0-to-60 time of less than 4 seconds sounds great to me.
But my 2019 highlights came from two automakers CarGurus has found compelling for years, Mazda and Subaru, in the form of strong new versions of proven models. The redesigned 2019 Mazda3 earned rave reviews from almost everyone who drove it, including George Kennedy, and the updated 2019 CX-5, which we sampled in the snow at the end of last year, also earned praise from a wide variety of reviewers.
A new version of our favorite Subaru model also arrived in 2019. We got a chance to drive the 2020 Subaru Outback back in September and enjoyed it quite a bit. The new edition of this wagon/crossover finally offers a turbocharged engine under its hood, which drivers living at high altitudes should particularly appreciate. Our recently published review of the 2020 Outback found it strong from functionality and cost-effectiveness standpoints, which we consider hallmarks of the Subaru brand.

This time of year, everyone’s talking about electrification and progress and the hot new thing. But as anyone with their eyes open can clearly see, 2019 was the year of the throwback.
youtube
First, Chevy resurrected the Blazer as a stylish, sharp, and sexy crossover complete with nearly $1,400 worth of 21-inch tires. Sure, the new 2019 Blazer had its detractors, namely those bemoaning its lack of off-road performance, but I, for one, welcome our new crossover overlords.
youtube
And it’s not as if 2019 didn’t bring us plenty of rugged capability, either. Carrying on with the throwback theme, both Ford and Jeep returned legendary truck nameplates to the market, with the 2019 Ranger and 2020 Gladiator.
youtube
Finally, the highlight of the year for this writer was the long-awaited return of the Toyota Supra. Partnering with BMW gave the new coupe a brilliant Bavarian heart and soul (or engine and chassis, for our more literal readers) to pair with its stunning exterior styling. Sure, the 2020 GR Supra’s interior might feel a bit familiar, and the lack of a manual transmission will cut it off some enthusiasts’ shopping lists, but it’s safe to say that no other car on CarGurus’ 2019 test-drive review roster received as much attention at gas stations, grocery stores, race tracks, or anywhere else we drove it.

2021 Chevy Blazer Review | Price, specs, features and photos
[ad_1]
Once upon a time, the Chevy Blazer was a big, serious, truck-based answer to the Ford Bronco. It certainly isn’t today. While the Bronco has been reborn and sticks to its original off-roading roots, the 2021 Chevrolet Blazer follows a completely different path. It’s a car-based crossover for one, and rather than putting on pseudo-rugged airs, it taps into the performance branch of the…

2021 Chevy Trailblazer review: Reborn SUV is a hit-or-miss proposition
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/2021-chevy-trailblazer-review-reborn-suv-is-a-hit-or-miss-proposition-2/
2021 Chevy Trailblazer review: Reborn SUV is a hit-or-miss proposition
Once upon a time, the Chevrolet Trailblazer was a body-on-frame, midsize SUV. The old-school Trailblazer was a beefy thing, available with a V8 engine and rear-wheel drive. But as shoppers’ needs have evolved, so have the SUVs themselves. After more than a decade, the Trailblazer is back in the form of a kinder, gentler, subcompact crossover.
Like
Snappy turbocharged engine
Excellent styling
Great infotainment tech
Don’t Like
Bland interior
Can get more expensive than most of its competitors
The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is offered in LS, LT, Activ and RS trims. The Activ is the one pictured here, which has a rugged-ish look, while the RS is a little sportier. Like the Buick Encore GX with which it shares a platform, the Trailblazer is available with either a 1.2-liter turbo I3 and a continuously variable transmission, or a 1.3-liter turbo I3 with either a CVT or a nine-speed automatic. For this review, I’m focusing on the uplevel 1.3T and nine-speed combo.
The Trailblazer is larger than the Chevy Trax, but with its sub-$20,000 starting price, is actually the least expensive SUV in the company’s lineup. It shares a lot of its design with its big brother, the Blazer, and to good effect. The dual-port grille and squinty headlights look great, but don’t be fooled by what Chevy calls the “simulated” skid plate down below. Still, I like the sculpted hood and I am always here for a two-tone paint scheme. Personally, I think the Trailblazer looks best in RS guise.
The Trailblazer shares a lot of its design cues with its midsize big brother, the Blazer.
Chevrolet
Chevy’s 1.3-liter I3 is surprisingly perky. Sure, it only makes 155 horsepower, but it’s the 174 pound-feet of torque that really helps with acceleration. It comes on early at 1,600 rpm and stays flat until 4,000 rpm, making highway merging almost effortless. The nine-speed automatic transmission is tuned more for fuel economy than anything else, upshifting early to maximize efficiency. During my time with the car, I averaged 29.1 miles per gallon, which is on the better side of the EPA’s ratings of 26 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined for this engine.
That’s not to say the Trailblazer is fun to drive, though. Get it on backroads and the soft suspension and generous body roll will make you think twice about making any quick directional changes, and it’s easy to upset the overall smoothness on uneven stretches of pavement. Then again, nothing in this small SUV class is all that rewarding to drive, save for the Mazda CX-3. I think most folks will find that the Trailblazer does an adequate job day to day, with lots of usable low-end power and easy-to-drive dynamics.
There is a Sport mode in the Trailblazer, which Chevy says changes the transmission’s shift logic, giving the steering a heavier feel. This also activates the all-wheel-drive setting — which is something the driver can turn on and off with a button — though the difference here is hard to feel. The transmission holds revs a bit longer under aggressive acceleration, but it doesn’t really change the Trailblazer’s overall demeanor. If you live in a cold-weather climate, a Snow mode makes the throttle less aggressive, potentially resulting in less wheelspin when setting off from a stop.
The Trailblazer comes standard with Chevy’s Safety Assist package, which includes forward-collision warning and braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keeping assist, a following distance indicator and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control is part of a $620 package and blind-spot monitoring is part of a separate $345 package. That’s weird, considering both those options are standard on the Toyota CH-R. If you want more tech like a hands-on steering assist feature, check out the Kia Seltos. Regardless of their price, the driver assistance features work as advertised, keeping me at a set distance from a lead car, warning me of other vehicles in my blind spot and producing a ding while gently bringing me back into the lane if I start to drift out.
Inside the Trailblazer, a standard 7-inch touchscreen runs Chevy’s Infotainment 3 system, but my tester has the upgraded 8-inch screen. It responds rapidly to my inputs and I love how easy and intuitive it is to use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are here, and with wireless connectivity in upper trim levels. Both the driver and passenger can connect their phones to the system with a nifty dual-Bluetooth interface. Charging is taken care of by USB Type-A and Type-C ports, plus a 12-volt outlet up front. Wireless charging is available, as are additional USB-A and USB-C ports for rear-seat passengers.
The interior design is kind of meh, but the infotainment tech is great.
Chevrolet
Parents will rest easy with Chevy’s standard Teen Driver feature, a black box of sorts that records driving behavior when a particular key fob is used, and can even set a speed limiter and prohibit the audio volume from going too high. It’s a feature that my rebellious high school self would hate, but the grumpy grown woman I’ve become takes gleeful joy in knowing younger drivers can’t be hooligans.
Much as I like the onboard tech, I’m less impressed by the rest of the Trailblazer’s interior. Sure, the materials are mostly fine and I like how much storage space is available, but the design lacks the spunk of the Nissan Kicks, the sophistication of the Mazda CX-3 or the quirky details of the Kia Seltos. What’s more, the backup camera quality is middling, though drivers can opt for a high-definition camera as part of a $1,720 technology package (Come on, just make this standard!). Overall, function definitely takes priority over form here.
The Trailblazer’s cargo space puts it in the middle of the class, at 25.3 cubic feet behind the second row of seats, expanding to 54.4 cubes when folded. Fold down the front passenger seat and you can accommodate items up to 8.5 feet long, like kayaks or lumber. If you need more space, however, you should look at the Kia Seltos, with 26.6 and 63 cubic feet respectively, or the Honda HR-V, with 24.3/58.8.
The Trailblazer is a fine little SUV, but many of its competitors are more well-rounded.
Chevrolet
The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer starts at $19,995 including $995 for destination. However, my LT tester ups the starting price to $25,600, and once the options are tacked on, I’m looking at $28,180 including destination. For that price I can get a nicely equipped Kia Seltos or Honda HR-V, or I can get a loaded Nissan Kicks with nearly $7,000 to spare.
The Trailblazer is a nice addition to the subcompact SUV segment with its lively powertrain and bold exterior styling. But considering how well-rounded so many of its competitors are, unfortunately for the Trailblazer, that might not be enough.
