My March Mammal Madness round 2 portraits. I wanted to give them their own additional post, to highlight their special theme of “portraits with interesting framing devices:. With the spotted skunk piece, I decided I wanted to focus more on detailed portraits, but still keep them visually interesting. Some of these were made with less time than I’d like, but I made it a point to always keep to the theme.

It’s that time of year again when I start gearing up to draw the heck out of some cool animals for 2020 March Mammal Madness!

It’s that time of year again! Time for March Mammal Madness art! Here’s the work I did for the first division, Cats-ish vs Dogs-ish! Lots of cool animals that are in the carnivore family, either in the cat branch or the dog branch, but none of them are actually cats and dogs proper.

Wow the last thing I uploaded here was not happy. Time to change that! March Mammal Madness 2020 is in full swing for those of us working on it. For you spectators, it starts today!  Make sure to fill out your brackets (available here) and tell me which species you think will win! I often doodle my assigned animals before I start their final art, just to sort of get a feel for them. This harbor porpoise doodle turned out adorable (and also factually accurate; porpoises are many times cuter than dolphins. This is confirmed by science.)
