#2020’s Biggest Auto Show

It might be because there weren't that many crazy changes between now and the 80s ? I know it sounds dumb but hear me about : Outside of technological and medical advancement, the past 10 or so years kinda looped back to the 80s-90s period especially for all the stuff relating to entertainment from music to shows to movies (remakes and sequels). The biggest hit show since the mid 2010's was Stranger Things whose story takes place in the 1980s. Slightly less blatant but still noteworthy are the clothing trends, vintage stuff got brought back a bit and the 80s attract a lot of people for the esthetic too

It creates a huge dissonance between the past and present

You're kind of right but you can't really discount the technological and medical advances as they do a huge influence on our cultures and lifestyles, especially if you were born in the mid to late 90s like me and witnessed technology change in real time with vhs and casette tapes and dial up internet going away in the mid 2000s.

So with technology, the 80s is when the home computer became a mainstream thing and back then computers were mainly used for working on documents or playing games. Although Emails have existed for much longer than you would think and a very primitive version of the Internet existed back then you can see a video on it here:

But I will say that 80s nostalgia has been huge in every decade since it passed, the 90s still held onto bright 80s colours for a time being, then the 2000s would make 80s throwbacks in media like with Grand Theft Auto Vice City paying homage to 80s movies, music and styles. The 2000s also had the major nostalgia boom for 80s Toy Franchises like Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, He-Man etc.

Though whilst that nostalgia level was high and probably the highest of any decade, I still think things evolved from the 90s culture onwards, I'd say the 90s and the 2000s were quite similar for a majority of it, though towards the mid to tail end of the 2000s a lot of things we have today came from that time period. Someone said the other day online that in Grand Theft Auto 4 a game that takes place in 2008 there's actually not a whole lot about it that doesn't feel like it couldn't take place today, they have a in universe version of Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

And I think thats the main thing that makes the late 2000s, the 2010s and the early 2020s just seem to blend together, what can we really point to came about from the last decade or this one that wasnt just a continuation or remix of something from the late 2000s? Its kind of like things have just been put on repeat since then. I'll admit I am more nostalgic for the late 2010s but I think a big part of that is it still felt like things could change even more the 2000s weren't all that long ago so it didn't feel like things needed to progress more.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Grand Theft Auto VI is an upcoming action-adventure game in development by Rockstar Games. It is due to be the eighth main Grand Theft Auto game, following Grand Theft Auto V (2013), and the sixteenth entry overall. Set within the fictional open world state of Leonida (based on Florida) and its Miami-inspired Vice City, the story is expected to follow criminal duo Lucia and her male partner.[a]

Following years of speculation and anticipation, Rockstar confirmed in February 2022 that the game was in development. That September, footage from unfinished versions was leaked online in what journalists described as one of the biggest leaks in the history of the video game industry. The game was formally revealed in December 2023 and is scheduled to be released in 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Setting and characters

Grand Theft Auto VI is an action-adventure game set in the fictional open world state of Leonida—based on Florida—which includes Vice City, a fictional version of Miami.[1][2][3] Vice City was previously featured in Grand Theft Auto (1997) and as the main setting of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006).[4][5][6] The game world parodies contemporary American culture, with satirical depictions of social media and influencer culture, and references to Internet memes such as the Florida Man.[7][8][9] The story follows a criminal duo: Lucia, the series' first female protagonist since 2000,[b] and her male partner;[a] the first trailer depicts Lucia as a prison inmate, and later evading custody with her partner.[2][16]

Development

Following Grand Theft Auto V's 2013 release, Rockstar North's then-president Leslie Benzies said the company had "some ideas" for the series' next entry.[17] In 2018, The Know reported the game, code-named Project Americas, would be set primarily in Vice City and partly in South America with a female protagonist.[18] In 2020, journalist Jason Schreier reported the game was "early in development" as "a moderately sized release" that would expand over time, to avoid its predecessors' developer crunch.[19] In 2021, Tom Henderson claimed the game's map could evolve akin to Fortnite Battle Royale.[20][21] In 2022, Schreier reported the game entered development in 2014 and would feature two Bonnie and Clyde-inspired protagonists, including a Latina woman, and claimed the developers were cautiously subverting the series' trend of joking about marginalised groups.[22][23]

The game became highly anticipated in the years before its announcement,[24][25][26] and journalists noted some fans became frustrated by Rockstar Games's continued silence, particularly after they announced a re-release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2020.[27][28][29] An individual referencing the game received media attention for interrupting several live stage and television shows.[30][31][32] On 4 February 2022, Rockstar confirmed development was "well underway".[33] In July, Rockstar announced Red Dead Online would not receive more major updates as development resources were withdrawn to focus on the upcoming game;[34] industry sources stated Rockstar reallocated resources after planned remasters of Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) and Red Dead Redemption (2010) were paused due to the backlash received by Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (2021).[35]

In November 2023, Rockstar president Sam Houser announced the first trailer would release in early December to celebrate the company's 25th anniversary.[36][37] Within five hours, the announcement on X surpassed two previous posts about the game to become the platform's most-liked gaming-related post,[38][39][40] later surpassed by Rockstar's post announcing the trailer's 5 December release date, with 1.8 million likes in 24 hours.[41] Other developers imitated the announcement's formatting to promote their trailers.[42][43][15] On 4 December, a low-quality version of the trailer was leaked on X; in response, Rockstar published the official version on YouTube, revealing the title, protagonists, setting, and release window of 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.[44][45][46] No Windows version was announced.[46][47] The trailer broke the record for most first-day views on a non-music YouTube video within 12 hours, with 46 million,[48][49] became the third-most overall within 24 hours with 93 million,[50][51][52] and surpassed the lifetime viewership of Grand Theft Auto V's 2011 reveal trailer within two days with 101 million.[53] Its featured song, Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road", saw a near-37,000% increase in Spotify streams, had almost 250,000 searches on Shazam, and ranked second on the worldwide iTunes chart.[54]

September 2022 leak

On 18 September 2022, a user known as "teapotuberhacker"[c] published 90 videos to GTAForums showing 50 minutes of work-in-progress game footage.[57] Schreier confirmed with sources at Rockstar that the footage was genuine,[58] and The Guardian reported it was from several stages of development,[57] with some videos about a year old.[4] The footage revealed a modern-day Vice City setting, contained animation and gameplay tests, level layouts, and character conversations, and depicted player characters Lucia and Jason entering a strip club and robbing a diner.[4][14] The hacker claimed to be behind the Uber security breach from the earlier week.[58][59] They said they downloaded the files directly from Rockstar's internal Slack groups,[60] and claimed to possess source code, assets, and internal builds of Grand Theft Auto V and VI, which they threatened to publish.[58]

Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive responded by submitting takedowns of videos showing or discussing the leaks hosted on YouTube,[57][61] and contacted GTAForums and Reddit moderators to remove access.[62] The hacker wrote they were "looking to negotiate a deal" with Rockstar or Take-Two.[63] Journalists described the event as one of the biggest leaks in video game history;[64][65][66] Schreier called it "a nightmare for Rockstar Games" which could limit employees' remote work flexibility.[67][68] Jefferies analyst Andrew Uerkwitz called it a "PR disaster" that could potentially delay the game and diminish staff morale, but was unlikely to impact reception or sales.[69][70] The Guardian noted the leaked footage was being widely criticised "by ill-informed users" due to its quality, despite not being representative of the final product.[57] Some users erroneously claimed graphics and art assets are finalised early in game development. In solidarity, several developers shared work-in-progress footage of their games[71][72][73] and some, including Cliff Bleszinski, Neil Druckmann, Rami Ismail, and Alanah Pearce, offered sympathies to Rockstar.[4][57][74]

On 19 September, Rockstar confirmed the leak to be a "network intrusion" and lamented how the game was first demonstrated but did not anticipate long-term effects on development.[75] They disabled comments and replies on their social media accounts in the days following the leak.[56] Take-Two added that steps had been taken "to isolate and contain this incident".[69] Take-Two's share price dropped by more than six per cent in pre-market trading that day,[69][70] but recovered during regular trading hours following their statement.[76] Uber acknowledged the potential links to their security breach and noted they were working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Department of Justice. They believed the hacker was affiliated with the group Lapsus$, which was thought to have breached companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia, and Samsung over the preceding year.[77][78] Zelnick said no material assets appeared to have been taken and the incident caused the companies to become more vigilant with cybersecurity.[79] He later reiterated the leak had impacted staff emotionally but business remained unaffected.[80]

A 17-year-old boy from Oxfordshire—claimed to be "teapotuberhacker"—was arrested by City of London Police on 22 September as part of an investigation supported by the National Cyber Crime Unit and American federal law enforcement.[81][82][83] The suspect is a key member of Lapsus$ who was previously arrested under suspicion of hacking several other companies.[77][84][85] Appearing before the Highbury Corner Youth Court, he pleaded guilty to two counts of breach of bail conditions and not guilty to two counts of computer misuse.[84][86][87] The case was referred to a higher court while the boy was remanded to a youth detention centre.[87][83] In mid-2023, he stood trial at Southwark Crown Court for twelve offences, including six counts of computer misuse, three of blackmail, and two of fraud.[85][88] Prosecutors alleged he threatened to release the source code in a message to all Rockstar staff on Slack and had targeted other companies like BT Group, Nvidia, Revolut, and Uber.[88][89][90] He was deemed unfit to stand trial; instead of assessing his guilt, a jury determined he had committed the acts, and he was set to be sentenced by a judge.[85][91]

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than, or about what was expected?

I think I wrote what I expected, but I think I could have definitely finished more. Which is a bit upsetting.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year? 

I don’t have limitations to my writing so nothing is deemed unpredictable.

I am however generally surprised by my love of throwing in twists and also gore, I love gore.

Wild space: it is strange because I am not particularly a fan of space and scifi, but I am really into writing world building things and having the ability to create a whole planet was amazing.

BTS365: 365 mini stories ✓ fluff, comedy, angst, romance, mature, action, adventure, smut. This has it all. Find your birthday and read your story. I wanted to give something unique to people.

Quarantine: 100 Chapters ✓ Something to accompany you while you are alone during quarantine and the pandemic. I was lonely and I figured so was everyone else. So, I decided to have BTS help us all go on an adventure that didn’t focus on the covid virus but on some other aspects around it.

Femme: 50 Chapters ✓ A futuristic world where women are rare. This was an indulgement fic that gave circumstances for the reader to be in a polyamorous relationship with the boys and live a glamorous life. Ending was a bit rushed.

Seoulmates: 29 (ongoing) Each member of BTS has a unique soulmate bond. I love the idea of this, another indulgent fic but you aren’t alone with the boys you have friends and you can play different parts.

Witching: 11 Chapter ✓ When your brother goes missing trying to find them gets you in a turf war between two covens. This fic was actually a way for me to vent for a project I wanted to complete but the project is so big that I wrote this instead.

Herb: 2 Parts ✓ mature, smut. Jimin claims he has everything you need, he doesn’t disappoint. I came across this idea within the 365’s and extended it because I liked the idea so much. Jimin has everything from casseroles to scarfes, cat food to cell phone chargers and the reader just wants to be loved and relieve stress.

Limited Edition: 10 Chapters ✓ BTS boys are sold as limited edition figurines. This was originally me venting about not having any merch and then became a daydream that what if the merch came alive. And the story was born.

BTS Among Us: 7 Chapters ✓ gore, action, adventure, scifi, angst, death of main characters. This one was so funny for me, I had my friend pick a colour and that was the imposter from the start. I was amazed that no one figured it out in the end. I want to play again soon.

Light it up: 13 Chapters ✓ fluff, comedy, angst, romance, mature, action, adventure. This was inspired by the dynamite trailer, I loved it so much that I began writing, I had no clear direction but as I wrote it started to shape and someone said it was like stranger things and I credited Stranger things cause it did indeed have a similar premise and I don’t want to pretend I came up with something that has already been done.

Love listening: 2 Parts ✓ SMUT, comedy, fluff, angst, romance, mature. This was inspired by a strange video that came up on the internet, I was searching for BTS misheard lyrics and the video I clicked had some funny ones but after that the next suggested video was bts moans and auto play was on and well this fic was born.

Me & the ghost in Number 23: 11 ✓ fluff, comedy, scifi, supernatural, romance, angst, mature, smut, death of main character. This was inspired by many of the ghost text au’s I had read but many of them were like the show oh my ghost where the main ghost character isn’t actually dead just in a coma and I thought the opposite way instead of them waking up, I wanted things to shape the other way. This one was so difficult to write and I cried a lot due to the loneliness Jimin was facing and the mourning from Yoongi.

Hope in the sheets: 4 chapters (so far) fluff, comedy, smut, adventure, slice of life, romance, angst, mature, growing up. This one is a fic that targets my childish desires. I have grown up so much and this fic is a visual representation of that.

Kisaeng: This was a reverse fic project, the idea that instead of Mulan pretending to be a man and going off to war, it was BTS dressing as women to stay home from war. I loved writing about fictional history. 

Steal my Sunshine: This was a summer project. I wanted to write something that felt like a very bad spy movie, like Mellissa Mccarthy and Mr Bean-esque. I formed this one and it made me laugh the whole time writing it.

Blue Side: This was talking to myself about being sad and admitting that I could be sad but I should learn to split the happy and sad into two worlds and limit my time in them both, it was about equal balance and finding the good in the sad and the sad in the good. I don’t know how hard to explain.

Temptation: I had fun writing but it is pure SMUT. not even good SMUT.

Pandemonium: This was really fun. The premise is dark and the ending is left ambiguous, in the original, Namjoon kills the reader but I left it open so you can imagine them continuing their relationship or not.

Mall santa: A fluffy christmas piece. A secret santa I wrote that I felt needed to be soft and quirky and have just all the hallmark moments.

Mad: This one is finished, but I have it published privately at the moment waiting to unveil it as it is well SMUTTY. I don’t know what it is about Taehyung but he is always so dark and I guess that's what people find appealing. I had this idea from a 365prompt and well I had to write it.

One wish: This was a birthday fic that I wrote for a friend. I wanted people to read it on their birthdays or imagine their birthdays and themselves in this position if they made the same wish.

The Check Up: I wrote for this for a friend going through a personal procedure, they were nervous so I took their bias and made something I hoped they could think about while in the procedure and I even explained the steps and what might happen over the next few days hoping the whole thing wouldn’t seem as scary because technically her mind had already been through it when reading the story.

Sparks of the heart: Robots developing human feeling. It was a cute universe and Yoongi’s story will be a series within 2021.

Feel Better: Another fic written for a author who was sick, I wanted them to endulge in some escapism whilst they were sick.

The Bomb: This one is compete and ready to post I had to talk myself out of writing this as a series but I love the story line. I love the end.

Lost Boys: This has been stuck in my head since i had a dream about it and I finally wrote it into the new year. I hope you like it.

Bull Market On!

It’s very hard not to be bullish on the stock market these days. The prudence exercised by many of the largest companies in the S&P 500 remains unprecedented, in our view. Some of the best companies out there have tremendous balance sheets, as evidenced by huge net cash positions. Perhaps two of our favorite companies, Microsoft (MSFT) and Facebook (FB) are the best examples of this, but Apple (AAPL) still retains quite the large net cash hoard as it works to net-cash breakeven.

As we look at the next couple years, most investors will continue to focus on the Fed. We’ve seen this song and dance following the Great Financial Crisis (GFC) that wreaked havoc on the markets between 2007-2009. Many believed that the markets would have a Fed-induced crisis that would obliterate stocks after the GFC as they tapered and withdrew stimulus, but the Fed executed flawlessly. The bears seized on a municipal bond crisis, and a European debt crisis, but we still had one of the strongest bull markets in history following the Great Financial Crisis -- a bull market that ran through the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Here we are just 16-18 months after the first case of COVID-19 was announced in the United States, and we are not just at new highs in the stock market--but we’ve already made many of them! The “old school” analysis with respect to drawdowns and withdrawals no longer holds in this hyper-intensive, information-driven economy, in our view, where 3-4 years’ worth of price behavior is experienced in 3-4 months. Those pursuing annual withdrawals in retirement in January, for example, didn’t experience any impact from the market meltdown, as January 2021 saw a market much higher than January 2020, despite the most abrupt fall in market history. Bear markets in the future may be even shorter than the 11.3 month historical average, too. The COVID-19 bear market was just 1.1 months.

We crunched the numbers, and a 60/40 stock/bond indexed and rebalanced portfolio has now trailed active stock selection, as measured by the S&P 500 Sector SPDR (SPY) as the midpoint, by 130 percentage points the past 10 years. The 60/40 stock/bond indexed and rebalanced portfolio failed at what it was supposed to do, too. During the worst of the COVID-19 stock market swoon, the 60/40 stock/bond indexed and rebalanced portfolio saved just 8 percentage points versus a full allocation to the largest U.S. equities. From our perspective, it has become hard to justify the 60/40 stock/bond indexed and rebalanced portfolio given its high correlation to equities, the vast underperformance during lengthy bull markets, and the short duration of bear markets when it comes to periodic withdrawals.

The arguments against active stock selection have vanished, in our view. The vast underperformance of the 60/40 stock/bond portfolio over a 10-year and even 30-year stretch relative to a diversified S&P 500 portfolio may be the biggest reason. Not only has modern portfolio theory (MPT) failed in this respect, but quant finance has also dropped the ball in other areas. The huge underperformance of the small value factor during the past decade has shown that it is a fool’s errand to believe that past performance is prologue. The entire basis of quant research can be readily dismissed by the most common disclaimer in this industry warning about past analysis not being prologue, and yet, many continue to fall for the nonsense. Stay away from quant conclusions until they start factoring forward-looking expectations into their processes.

The best of times with respect to cryptocurrency may very well be behind us as well. The alternative asset market isn’t as strong as it was in the beginning of this year, and Bitcoin (GBTC) and other cryptocurrencies have followed suit. A few cryptocurrencies have even zeroed out, and this is the true risk faced by anybody seeking the merits of modern portfolio theory with a small crypto allocation. An asset must have intrinsic value and go up in the long run for MPT to hold merit, meaning that you need a better model than just mashing historically uncorrelated assets together. The model we use at Valuentum is the discounted cash flow model, or enterprise valuation. We then seek to diversify among the most undervalued assets that have strong market backing via technical and momentum indicators.

Inflation is the talk of Wall Street the past few months, but we’ve seen a pullback in some of the prices that have surged. The housing market remains resilient, but lumber prices have come in quite a bit. The auto industry is working past the semiconductor shortage, and the huge ramp in used car sales may now be behind us. Crude oil and gasoline prices have increased materially, but the abundance of shale oil should keep a tight lid on long-term crude oil price expansion. Unlike OPEC, the U.S. government can’t limit production in a free economy, and the invisible hand will act as the counterbalance to high energy prices in time. We like stocks in an inflationary environment, and we love big cap tech and large cap growth in any environment.

Many are expecting net-cash rich corporates to start funneling some of their huge cash positions into the equity markets, and we don’t think they’ll be getting too complicated with their strategies. Share buybacks will be one avenue that they’ll use to deploy the capital, but many will also seek to allocate capital to the broader S&P 500, in our view. Money market funds have surged as a result of government stimulus since the COVID-19 meltdown (there is over $4.5 trillion just sitting in money market funds according to Bloomberg, more than at the peak of the GFC), and there may be hundreds of billions of dollars ready to enter the stock market in the next 6 months alone. Corporations are cash rich, and bond yields are paltry.

Buying demand for equities could set off a huge advance in stock prices, in our view, and the Fed may be fine with this as they were during the 10-year period following the GFC. We hardly experienced any meaningful inflation after the GFC either, but stock prices soared. In many ways, we’re expecting a replay of the 2010s (last decade) in the 2020s (this decade), and the next 10 years may very well be a replay of the Roarin’ 20s, a theme we have repeated before. We expect advisors and asset allocators to buy equities at almost every market dip, and we believe the Fed will support the markets in the event of even modest price weakness. These are unprecedented times, and that means the Fed will remain vigilant in support of equity prices.

Our favorite ideas remain in the newsletter portfolios, and as we noted before, Alphabet and Facebook have been lights-out with their relative price performance so far in 2021. The Valuentum Buying Index (VBI) has also showed its efficacy of late, with Facebook and Korn Ferry (KFY), two of the top ratings on the VBI, soaring. Facebook was a huge gift a couple years ago (in 2018) when it dipped below $150 per share. The market couldn’t have been more wrong on shares, and the stock has now more than doubled since then, trading north of $340 per share of late. Facebook has registered more 10s on the VBI than any other company in our coverage.

Though the meme-stock frenzy has been annoying and reveals the fragility of market structure as it relates to price-agnostic trading, the bias to the markets remains upward, in our view. Meme stock traders are long, advisors and asset allocators are pumping their clients’ money into the stock market on every dip, the short sellers have their backs against the wall, the Fed and Treasury aren’t going to go away, and more stimulus in the form of an infrastructure bill may serve to pad the bottom line of many in the energy and industrial sectors--the weakest sectors in recent years. The markets could go up for a long time yet, and we remain very bullish.

What I’ve read in 2020!

Welcome back to this thing I started in 2017 and still don’t know WHY it should matter!

This year has been a shit show but I must admit I’ve read quite a lot (who knew that staying at home with nothing else to do, except watching the world burn, could lead to this?!) Anyway! This is it, enjoy!

WAR AND PEACE, L. TOLSTOY – biggest book I’ve ever read in my life, I don’t know how but it’s never boring, I loved the characters and I adored the historical knowledge; the two subjects mix, when people are at war they miss peace, and when they are at peace they miss and look for war; it’s full of time skips in a very Russian fashion… only thing it bothered me, in my edition at least, all the paragraphs written in French didn’t have a translation, I hope I didn’t lose too many infos lol 8,5/10

PERSUASION, J. AUSTEN – this book! A surprise, a revelation, a discovery! Brilliant! Funny! Lovely! Anne’s expressions of her family are hilarious; one of my favourites so far, even if “lost love who is not as forgotten as you thought they would be” sounds way too much like the story of my life 10/10

THE YEARS, V. WOOLF – it felt lonely, yet lively; a bit hopeless, but not too sad; the chatter, the teasing, is all very familiar, as if she wrote about my own family; simple in its day-to-day life; felt like autumn (if it makes sense????) 8/10

THE DEAD SOULS, N. GOGOL – ridiculous characters, ridiculous conversations, I loved the ironic way it depicts Russian society and its people; the last chapter is a mess, I couldn’t imagine how it could end and to be honest I still have no idea 7,5/10

THE PROCESS, F. KAFKA – no time-line; not a single emotion, not from the characters neither from the author; a cold, indifferent depiction of a series of facts, which are everything but clear; not an inch of silence, just words; it tired me out, I just needed a bit more silence 5/10

THE WHITE GUARD, M. BULGAKOV – I simply love how he writes (wrote??) and his characters are always so unique and interesting; I adore the references to Tolstoy and Dostoevskij; this book has more of a painting than a book; it’s an impressive recount of a fundamental historical moment; the end is not clear but beautiful 9,5/10

THE HANDMAID’S TALE, M. ATWOOD – I thought I wouldn’t have been able to stomach it, and then I found out that there’s a right way to tell a story about violence and she mastered it; cruel people are just that, no craziness, no dark past, just thirst for power and the confidence of knowing what’s best for everyone; it gave me chills, it made me angry; I love how she writes, it’s the first time a first person pov doesn’t make me want to tear my eyes off my face… people who watched the series: do you know what’s the real name of Offred? I need it 10/10

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, J. AUSTEN – as usual, her books must be read in one breath; Jane and Charles’ story is my favourite; I love Mr Bennet as much as I can’t suffer everyone’s sisters (except Miss Darcy of course); it has an amazing mix of characters, I absolutely love the drama that follows Mr Darcy; I honestly expected a more dramatic confession at the end but it was great 9/10

NOTES FROM A DEATH HOUSE, F. DOSTOEVSKY – a bit too auto-biographic for my tastes, but I adored his depiction of a humanity which is often forgotten; it’s very disturbing in its actuality if you stop to think about it; he never tires himself saying that those “criminals” are also and foremost human beings 7,5/10

ASYLUM, P. MCGRATH – the first part is fast-paced, it leaves you breathless and with an anxious need to keep on reading; then it started to be a little more psychological and it kinda bored me; I liked the narrator very much, it was really disturbing 7,5/10

DOCTOR ZIVAGO, B. PASTERNAK – every Russian book I’ve read gave me a glimpse of Russian history and culture, yet they’re all different and I think that’s often underappreciated. Now, this book. This book is, simply put, breath-taking. The landscapes are immense and colourful, the talent of this man is unparalleled; it has a devastating end, it’s a book I’ll probably read over and over again just ‘cause reading it is “such a sweet sorrow” 10/10 (this rec is shorter than what it should have been in my mind, but I’d probably end up talking about this book and only this book so that’s it, it’s called self-control)

EMMA, J. AUSTEN – at first I was annoyed by Emma’s character, but then she proved herself so oblivious it started to become pretty funny; I can’t get over how much people talk in this book, the irony is SO on point, I love it; I probably like it more than Persuasion, because there are so many twists that the ending left me really surprised for once. And let me tell you, Jane Austen is THE BEST at depicting insufferable people 10/10

UNO, NESSUNO, E CENTOMILA, L. PIRANDELLO – look at me, reading Italian literature, world must be ending… to be honest? I don’t remember much of it? And I didn’t take notes as I usually do? I must’ve been bored out of my mind… I’ll give it a 6/10 on trust alone because I know Pirandello is great lol

HIS DARK MATERIALS, P. PULLMAN – finally got to this and it left me pretty confused; the first book is great, I loved the characters and the scenery, but in the other two I felt like too many things were left unexplained and Lyra’s character too lost some of its greatness; the end brought very little clarity, if at all, and of course I hated it with a passion; I don’t think he expressed the maximum potential of the world he built, but I liked it alright 7,5/10

1984, G. ORWELL – saying I was disappointed might be an understatement; I like how it’s written but the story in itself is frustrating, frankly boring, and disappointing, especially the end; you don’t build so much tension just to end it like that! Tho, maybe that’s exactly what he wanted to convey; everything is pretty much hopeless, made me angry 7/10

CARRIE, S. KING – first of his book I’ve ever read, AND I LOVED IT; it’s not a style I like very much, letting us know how it will end since the beginning, but it was great, magnificent, empowering; I don’t know if I’ll ever have the patience to read the others (they’re all so big) but this certainly got me curious 9/10

JACOB’S ROOM, V. WOOLF – confusing, very confusing, more confusing than anything of hers; of course it’s very beautifully written, but I have no idea what happened there 6,5 maybe 7/10?

THE WITCH, S. JACKSON – my personal Halloween challenge begins with this; short, CREEPY, VERY CREEPY, to the point (what point?); absolutely loved it 8/10

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, S. JACKSON – listen, creepy houses are my jam, they’re the best; my first impression of the characters went like this: they’re all batshit crazy, I love them; it honestly gave me nightmares; I wish I would’ve read it in English tho 8/10

THE ABC MURDERS, A. CHRISTIE – the queen of plot-twists herself, she never disappoints; not my favourite, mind you, but it was great how she built the story of the murderer just to… well, you’ll have to read it 7,5/10

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, E. A. POE – I love when short stories such as this leave so much space around them to build whatever plot your imagination can come up with; it’s great, even left like it is 8/10

THE PENELOPIAD, M. ATWOOD – whatever guys, this woman has the ability to write the worst things in such a delicate way simply out of this world; I ADORE HER 9/10

THE UNCOMMON READER, A. BENNETT – hilarious from start to finish, kinda frustrating in the way only royal etiquette can be; I love how the Queen relates to others and I adored her inner monologue; the end is brilliant and the whole book (more or less 100 pages) feels like a breath of fresh air 8/10

THEATRE

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, W. SHAKESPEARE – funny, brilliant, it became one of my favourite comedies (and there aren’t many of them) 8/10

CYMBELINE, W. SHAKESPEARE – nice little thing, with all the ingredients of a tragedy but with a happy ending; for a moment I thought it would end in a King Lear’s way, glad it didn’t 7,5/10

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, W. SHAKESPEARE – the first of Shakespeare’s plays that I didn’t like at all, and I think the reasons are pretty clear to whoever has read it; it kinda felt “out of character” for him, but maybe I’m just an ignorant 4/10

POETRY and LETTERS

ARIEL, S. PLATH – raw, powerful, sad, everything I expected of it, I also have the best edition ever, she’s great 8/10

POEMS FROM THE MOOR, E. BRONTE – the talent, the power of this woman; I’ll cry the loss of the Gondal’s saga for the rest of my life 8/10

LETTERS TO A YOUNG POET, R. M. RILKE – amazing, the thins this man could write even in such a trivial thing as a letter, I love him 10/10

MARINA CVETAEVA – I must admit, I like her prose better than her poetry; her letters are heart breaking yet so full of enthusiasm you can’t help but feel for her; also, she loves Boris as much as I do, her letters to him are my favourite thing in the world 9/10

BORIS PASTERNAK – this man was the best present this year could give me, do yourself a favour and go read him 10/10

SPECIAL MENTION: THE SECRET HISTORY, D. TARTT – I may have a problem with her books, but I’ve started this in January and never got the patience to finish it; chapters WAY too long, characters that are so insufferable they can’t be real; pretentious, boring… I can’t give it a rating because I didn’t finish it and I’m not a monster, but the bar is very low

Lookie Here, My Dear is a weekly column that spotlights albums that have evaded the Big Sites (Pitchfork, Stereogum, Allmusic, etc,). This week’s album is one that especially needs some extra love and support:  Of Montreal’s 21st album: I Feel Safe With You, Trash.

Of Montreal is the closest I have gotten to embracing a Phish/Grateful Dead style fandom over a band. I would absolutely drop everything I am doing in my life to follow of Montreal on tour. I am singing along to every song. I don’t have the songs consciously memorized, they have been programmed into me. I have listened to a full bootleg version of False Priest and have seen them live more than any other musical act in my lifetime (Around 10 times in three different states and one different country). As an aggressively weird and emotional kid growing up in the South that wanted to break through the gender binary and frighten and challenge the “normals,” you couldn’t ask for a better soundtrack than Of Montreal. I discovered them in 2007, the year of Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? The last album Of Montreal would earn Pitchfork and Big Publication’s laurels and respect.

There have been 10 albums out since Hissing Fauna and I love the majority of these albums to various degrees. There is a B-sides rarity compilation Daughter of Cloud that I haven’t really spent time with and a couple of real dud LPs: Innocence Reaches and UR Fun. UR Fun was the most recent Of Montreal album that came out in the beginning of 2020 and was more or less written off as a complete failure by critics and online fairweather fans. Critics have actively grown disdainful over Barnes’ eccentricities and their overwhelming unfashionability, there hasn’t been anything trendy about of Montreal in nearly 14 years. Real of Montreal fans know there’s usually one middling album that paves the way for a much stronger release. Mainly evident in the jump of quality between Innocence Reaches and White is Relic. The leap in quality between Trash and UR Fun is astonishing.  

UR Fun has some choice cuts and even the worst Of Montreal albums are more interesting than a good deal of today’s musical landscape. I saw Of Montreal live for UR Fun in February 2020, one of the last full capacity shows that would ever happen in Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Steel venue, perhaps forever. Unfortunately it was one of the most unpleasant oM concerts I attended and no fault of the band but due to the audience. Restless and rude bodies going back and forth, forth and back to the bar or who knows elsewhere and shoving people around. An absolute covid nightmare. Nobody attending concerts in January and February 2020 were appreciating them as much as they should.

Of Montreal had been releasing their albums on Polyvinyl since their sixth LP, the critical breakthrough Satanic Panic in the Attic. At that point Barnes had already spent 8 years building up a devoted cult following and making hysterically ornate psychedelic pop and lo-fi rock confections. Of Montreal seem to have a layered working relationship and have been a stable home for Barnes’ adventurous output. What’s remarkable is that none of these shifts in sound ever feel like counter culture role play or trying on an EDM hat or a alternative country hat, they are always distinctively an Of Montreal album. Besides stylistic adventurousness the other running throughline that connects the of Montreal discography together is Barnes’ penchant for hyper-literate, bold everything and the kitchen sink approach to lyricism and songwriting. The highly divisive, gloriously deranged Hissing Fauna follow-up LP, Skeletal Lamping is where the free-verse, songs within songs approach fully becomes a mainstay for Barnes. Even though I Feel Safe With You, Trash is being released on a separate personal vanity label, Sybaritic Peer, Of Montreal and Polyvinyl continue to be a fertile label and artist relationship. 

I Feel Safe With You, Trash is also notably the longest album released by Of Montreal since 2004’s Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies (1 hr 9 mins) clocking in at 1 hr 6 mins. As of writing this article I have already listened to the album three times and counting upon its official release date. Not because I have a moral principal about how many times a person should experience art before analyzing it, but because the album is so damn replayable. Of Montreal at their best, and this album represents Barnes at the height of their powers, reminds me why I love and obsess over music. Hardly anyone making music today is making music this bold and adventurous. At this point in their career Barnes has more than solidified their status as bonafide Japanese word for a Music Witch. 

Barnes has been performing and producing every single instrument and singing every backing track on their albums for over two decades now, and still indicates not even a sliver of fatigue. There are days where I can barely write a single thought down because I know it won’t get a single like, it won’t lead me any closer to picking up the camera and nailing that perfect monologue. I can be salty about the life of obscurity I have built for myself, but then I have to remember Kevin Barnes. A bonafide musical genius that hardly bothers to get the word out. Barnes seems incapable of stopping making the sort of albums a person can get lost in for days. They are my biggest musical heroes, they represent exactly the sort of path I want to carve out for myself.

I Feel Safe with You, Trash is the embodiment of the gift that keeps on giving. A portrait of an LGTBQI+ artist 25 years into a career completely devoid of diminishing returns. There have been some missteps along the way with “Georgie Fruit'' and having too much fun during a mid-life crisis with UR Fun. More importantly I Feel Safe with You, Trash represents real, critical growth for Of Montreal. And this is Album One of Two of 2021, the year Of Montreal continued to take up a considerable portion of my mental bandwidth, it’s pure bliss.

Notable Tracks:

Aries Equals Good Trash - The first obvious “single” for the album that has a serious swaying lilting, uneasy beat. The vocals on this track are indicative of the overall shift in quality in Barnes vocals that have gotten a lot less strained and smoother.  Favorite lyric/delivery:

“I compare thee to a saturnalia (ha!) if I may be so rude.” 

The song also touches upon Barnes’ relating to be on the spectrum, both the gender/sexual spectrum and the cognitive one. Music for people breaking new ground with a broken brain. 

Now That’s What I Call Freewave - 

“Every time I look at my phone I get brain damaged. By every blamedead person I get lobotomized"

This song is also the first song in the Western music canon to introduce the phrase “feelbad songs of Covid summer.” This song also marks the first appearance of several where Barnes is absolutely shredding the guitar. I don’t really listen to much music that places and emphasis on “solos” or melting the fret board, but how can you not get excited by that burst of guitar? Also leave it to Barnes to find a way to also shout out an experimental cinema deep cut, Chick Strand’s Soft Fiction. I also discovered the Czech film Valerie and Her Week of Wonders through the song “st. exquisite’s confessions.” Why not also use your songs as a chance to shout out cool obscure cinema?

True Beauty Forever - Of Montreal go future funk. If you don’t know what that means don’t worry I’m brewing up a whole story on the joys of future funk.

Fuckheads Is the Auto-correction - Okay I need to nix that phrase from my vocabulary because nearly every song on this album could be considered a new favorite. How can you top this opening couplet: 

Am I a creep because I don’t have a chosen pronoun? Am I a creep because my mind is the Odeon of the multiverse?

Drowner's TeÃrs - The use of pitched up vocals is an example of some of the new bells and whistles added to the oM sound palette. 

Fingerless Gloves & Kcrraanggaanngg!! - Find Barnes doing death core, metal styled goblin shrieks and it really, really works. More absolutely gnarly and nasty fret work. 

 Yamagate Florest Flutes & ThRam Rammaged à Man-Mod - Reggae/Dub Of Montreal? :O

Notes Of ViOlate SPectates A Flatter Of Male & So Chill Then (o Portão) - On an album this dense and frenetic there had to be some more ambient and chill passages and having So Chill Then as the album closer makes for a satisfying, soft landing.

I have Depression. It’s a slow eating disease that affects the mind that also brings about anxiety and restlessness. I struggle with anxiety almost on a daily basis. I wanted to bring about a new dawn in my life by writing my thoughts somewhere, where I hope that more and more people can gaze upon it and realize they are not the only ones going through the motions. The current pandemic and in light of certain situations has cause a large influx of people to realize this, or not and I want to share. The other reason I want to right these blogs is due to self-reflection and my recent toxic relationship with who I thought was the one for me. I guess we can start there and get his blog post going. 

 I was 17 when I met my baby mama. She was 17 as well, and she lived two towns over, and we were infatuated with each other. We constantly talked through text message and always hung out whenever we could. I didn’t have a good relationship with my parents and we constantly fought. Looking back at it, I don’t think I was looking for the right things. As a 17-year-old boy the only thing on your mind at that time, is to have sex. But I mixed two feelings, wanting sex and affection that I never received when I was in my own house. Things went by in our toxic relationship and low and behold we broke up a year after our son was born. That was when I started realizing that I started feeling more and more depressed. I was looking for once was a part of our relationship, I started wanting to be in another relationship and wanted to fix what happened. I started dating and seeing other people during a time when I should have been focusing on myself. I dropped out of school the year prior which meant I had more time to focus on the things that made me happy. Which for that time was video games, cars and women. It didn’t help me at all. I, then, met another girl that I started dating around that time. Let’s call her Del. 

Del and I met a year after my baby mama and I broke up. We met off of Tinder and it was mostly a bunch of flirting and sex talk. We met during that time while she was up here from SoCal for work. We met at a local hotel at the time, because, I was flat broke and didn’t have a place to stay and was living back at my parents. It was suppose to be a one night stand and we ended up staying the night together and seeing each other multiple times after that. We moved way to fast. She decided to stay up here after her job tried to send her back and moved into a room for rent. Shortly there after I was kicked out my house and started hanging out with my cousins and living in my car. I would go to her house for weeks on end, and stay in my car some nights. What I didn’t know, is that my anxiety started to show along with my depression. I never wanted to do anything for her. I would show affection but only when I wanted to. I started to vape heavily and constantly wanted to drink. Looking back on that relationship, I know now that it was toxic. I was using her for my own benefit to feel better about myself but the other thing that I never noticed was that I was in a relationship for one of the wrong reasons. I was looking to fix her.

           When Del and I broke up, it was a nasty. We had an argument the night before and we had been in each others faces. But the first indication that the relationship was bad and or worse was when I tried to salvage things. I wanted to go out and vape and cool off. She wouldn’t let me and told me if I was going to go out and do that, that she was done. And that was the first moment that I stood up for myself and stepped out. In my anxiety of leaving Del I was force by myself to come back asking for forgiveness just to stay in the comfort of being in my depression, and having a roof over my head. When I came back, she wouldn’t say anything and I later met her at the local mall for her to drop off all of my stuff into a tight little 90’s SUV.

           It was shortly after this that I had bump on my head. I’m the type of person that only changes when something happens that destroys me inside. About three months after we broke up, I started vaping more and drinking. This was mostly because of my depression and the fact that I didn’t know how to cope with myself. One day though my friend that I was super close with and helped me deal with a previous break up helped me get motivation to better myself. I found anime. When I was growing up, Dragonball Z was all the rage and kids from the school yard would always talk about. It was on in the evening right after school and it was amazing! For a kid that didn’t know how to express themselves by talking, watching a listening to people talk helped. This show taught me to deal with bullies in the only natural way: by fighting back. But that was 7-12 year old me that dealt with stuff like that. How is that beneficial for a man that is 26 years old and has a child. You can’t scream and yell all the time. It was much more than that a surface level. When I started watching the show again, I was realizing something that ignited a fire in my soul. Why do I keep attracting people that are overweight and unhappy with themselves or had really bad situations or home life. Why does everyone that I come into contact to likes me even though I’m not that hot. I’m over weight and always have been. Late one night, my cousin and my friend decided to call me up and ask me to

Head to the gym with them. That night lit a fire in my soul that made me focus on myself. I started working out. I pushed myself, I pushed myself to loose some weight and focusing on bodybuilding. I wanted to be like Arnold, and just be bigger. And then the Dragonball Super made my focus even grander. I wanted to go beyond myself to have a body like the guys on DragonBall, I grew into that fashion of getting up early and heading to the gym and getting bigger and pushing myself harder. And I was loving it. I was working at auto dealership and I was making better money than what I was the year before. I pushed myself to the maximum and made excellent gains as the bodybuilder call it. I felt better for once with my depression even though I was still dealing with a lot of that. I was dealing with a crappy home life situation with my extended family.

 Then once again, I was out on the street. I was depressed and turned to tinder for that dopamine affect. I need companion ship and didn’t have the friends that were around the time that would help. However, the gym took a back burner and was only used to shower every day which should have been my main source of a crutch. As a famous philosopher once said, Hindsight is 20/20. Once things at work started to ramp up, I caught a lot of overtime. I would push myself to stay at work till the late evenings clean and doing things to work on my car. I felt like I was getting nowhere. Then I met Danni who was another one of my ex-girlfriends. Now Danni was completely different than most of the girls that I date (or so I thought).

Let me tell you guys that my two other exes were okay but Danni was drop dead gorgeous. I was infatuated the first night her and I met on Tinder (wow tinder should be paying for this). She was funny and good listener, and everything that Del was not. And things went well the first night that we met. Shortly thereafter, there was something that was not right and popped a red flag. She was very independent which in my mind was cool, but she was very very independent. She didn’t want to ever hangout because of her schedule but for someone who was infatuated, she didn’t want to spend time with someone that gave her the time of day. Which someone for me was something that I like to do. I want to get to know people and for me that level of attachment is a turn off for people. But for me I pushed those thoughts down and continued our relationship. That was the turn point again. We thankfully didn’t live together, and this was probably the shortest relationship in this entire story. But this had the biggest impact, I didn’t want another girlfriend that was like her. We dated, she needed space, and then wanted to date. She was very indecisive and didn’t want the same thing as me, and that she said things I felt were to make me happy.

 We broke things off in August of 2018 and that was final straw that broke the camels back. I stopped going the gym and felt on hard times. I got a new car and wanted to slam that thing into a pole. Things were bad and I felt like there was nothing that could make things. Then my most recent ex came into the picture. For once this was someone that was local, and that was amazing. I was homeless still and this was the perfect opportunity to move in and get on the rent that was already made. This time, however, I fell in love for the wrong reasons. But this time it took forever to realize what was wrong this time. I gained more insight on the relationship. She was very head strong but terrible with money, she was bad with doing things such as working out for herself. She always started a workout plan that would end with in her running to fast food. She would go back to being mopey and sitting around. Then things were made worse once the pandemic hit. I gained weight and had my anxiety and depression get worse. I didn’t see a way out. 8 months into 2020, she thought our relationship was toxic and choose herself and I think in my own mind, I knew we were done way before 2020 started. She wasn’t good enough to be around my son and I force myself into a relationship and caused it me more heartbreak. But this is where my epiphany started to happen. When we broke up, I didn’t cry. I didn’t get angry or do anything that would cause me to be toxic. Something in me that I haven’t felt since pre 2020 that would happen. I started school and focused on that for once. I pushed myself for one week to start running. I pushed myself to finish my runs every day. And this fire pushed me to realized that my hinderance with people is not with the people themselves. Its my own fault that I keep getting into relationships that do not work for me. I get into relationships where I find a person that seems broken and attract towards them. They aren’t relationships but me trying to fix things. That, couple with my depression lash outs and anxiety, make a tornado of shit that doesn’t work for anyone. And I think there is a correlation between me and my body type attracting people who are lazy and don’t want to work on themselves. But once again, I need to find myself and learn to love my self too. Dealing with depression and anxiety has caused me to learn that things in myself needs to change. Not only in my mind but physically. There are things that needs to be worked on and things that are coming in the following weeks related to thing as I’m still living with my ex that correlated with me. I hope that someone realizes that their situations differ, but we suffer from the same, disease and have to handle things in a different way.

How much the world has changed since then is impossible to tell in descriptive terms.

We could make a graph measuring the CO2 and sea levels in 1995 and 2020, but numbers quickly get lost and insignificant and are easily forgotten.

What we can talk about in this exhibition text is how Pam was chased around and sought after long before Instagram, before the Kardashians and Paris Hilton. She was the top tabloid story at the time, having had a turbulent love life, a sex tape, a bomb body and a hep C diagnosis. The roles she had in various films and series all indicated that she was, on and off screen, basically the same person - a hot blonde.

But Pam knew that all attention can be used and diverted, and she did to her stories what her paparazzi had done to her. Selflessly, at the center of everyone’s interest, she applied the method of self-exploitation. She surrendered willingly, so that in the end, nobody could conquer her. She surrendered her body to the world, on her own terms. The terms were that, while her pictures, stories, boobs, hair, tats and love interests circulated the Internet and press, she would be talking about the stuff she cared about, which was: save the planet.

People used to make fun of Miss World laureates whose biggest wish in life was world peace. Is this really that funny? Is it funny because it’s said by a beautiful woman, or is it funny because it sounds impossible? Or does it sound impossible because it is being wished for by a beautiful woman?

Now that we speak of the world ending in numbers and graphs and units of time, and not in abstract terms anymore, we might need to lend our own bodies to accomplish a new awareness. And now that so many bodies are gorgeous and erotic, naked and blunt everywhere, and every day online, maybe there’s nothing else left for us to think about than the world itself, world peace, world survival, trees, oceans and whales. This Siege subline celebrating the 35th anniversary of Transformers is currently a mystery, but will presumably be exclusive in some manner. The line was revealed during preview tours at Toy Fair 2019 but removed and unacknowledged for the main event, and is set to include Bluestreak (Prowl redeco with Smokescreen shoulder cannons), Soundblaster (Soundwave retool with new double-cassette door), and cartoon-style redecoes of Optimus Prime and Megatron. We’ve since seen clear stock photos for Bluestreak, and a leaked packaging design for Soundblaster.

Hasbro have revealed the next two figures for the Generations Selects mail-order line: Lancer, a retool of Greenlight who completes the female Autobot combiner Orthia, and Galactic Man Shockwave, who pays homages to Radio Shack’s grey version of the ‘Astro Magnum’ toy that became Generation 1 Shockwave. Saving the biggest for last, it’s the enormous War for Cybertron Trilogy Unicron, whose HasLab crowdfunding campaign is already underway on Hasbro Pulse. If 8,000 people preorder the 27-inch-tall, $575 figure before 31st August 2019, Unicron will go into production for 2021 and become the largest (and heaviest!) Transformers toy ever made!

Superlatively sly with his next motive, this artist is far from a Dr. Doofenshmirtz. In fact Napy Haird Villan has no remorse for those who’ve done him dirty. All he has to do is let loose his "set-it-off" attitude & the rest remains a mystery. An example can be seen in his song, “Hurt My Soul” where he says, “I cannot pretend I know these n-ggas, not my friends/See me spending bread, they wonder if I cut a check/See they want me dead, puttin’ prices on my head/I cannot pretend I got my n-ggas till the end/I ain’t tryna jell but n-ggas day I’m the hottest next to hell/....../I ain’t tryna cause friction, so please don’t you run & tell/Run your mouth, you gon’ need a f-ckin dentist to repair.” Regardless, Napy Haird Villan is just worried about his Benjamins. At most, the 973-er needs 100,000 licks till it clears. From “Wishlist” he says, “Said I don’t wanna chill today, need me a lick today. Need to get rich today, I might need to kill today.”

Besides this, Napy Haird Villan gets every walk of life seemingly tranced with his pleasant auto-tune. Sure, the beat takes an twist with its semi-distorted pattern but it gets the point across. However, Napy Haird Villan takes this approach not only because he’d like to strike fear in the hearts of those who hate. But also as a way to speak with his inner conscience. From his malicious wordplay to unbothered rap delivery — it’s hard to deny his doom. Napy Haird Villan will whip you upside your lip with his pick comb & make you regret talking bad on his name. Point. Blank. Period.

Like a Sour Patch, Napy Haird Villan might be sour, but then he’s sweet. “I’m a fun, loving, charismatic gangsta with a charming smile. No cap.” Villan adds. By far, he is of the most interesting artist that you’ve never heard of. A Southward baby, Villan comes from Newark, NJ. Yet he claims Hillside as his real home. Not only because that’s where his music comes from, but also because there’s “a few real n-ggas out there.”

To ask Napy Haird Villan how he started music is like asking him how he took his first breath. Ultimately, Villan says that he did in order to survive but music has been in his life for as long as he can remember. “I really knew it was my calling when I saw my life twist & tumble but my love for music never withered. It just kept growing.” Villan says.

Ironically, music & a blunt take place of his alarm clock. He’s built a studio in his house so sometimes Villan will wake up to his homies already in the lab, just working! Likewise he’d collab with PrinceHil when the opportunity presents itself. “I lowkey would’ve never thought to start engineering if it wasn’t for him. I watched Prince get everything he deserved plus more & I just wanted the same.” says Villan “I wanted to put that work in & show the people I been working too. It’s always love when we link but I’m still waiting to get in the lab with you bro. Let’s cook up before 2020!” As for New Jersey supporting New Jersey? Villan believes it’s ran by a buddy-buddy system. “I just don’t think black people support black people enough to get us where we need to be.” Villan says “We support the rich but ignore our friends when it comes to buying merchandise, a ticket or just something as little as showing up. People only show love to people they know & that’s the world we live in. Still, there are a few real ones out there. The real ones always recognize greatness & I try to do the same. This sh-t could be all love but people will rather hate on your success.”

Through his music Napy Haird Villan gives himself a word of advice. “I find it easier to try to keep it as real as I can to myself so if any other person was to relate, it’ll be a vibe. There’d be a connection & that way I’d be able to build a core fan base with people that still wanna feel something when they listen to music.” Alongside, his strength in music is everything. Napy Haird Villan defines himself as an all-around artist who tries to bring an refreshing sound. “I have fun making everything I make. We have a saying here in my crew, “If it ain’t a hit, we don’t want it.” So with that being said, we strive for the best melody, fire flows & we’re constantly on each other’s backs about coming with the next wave, a new genre, new content. Something for people to listen to.” Villan adds.

Napy Haird Villan’s influences include Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, & Big-L — but most importantly, his mother. “My moms by far has been the biggest inspiration behind my wanting this. I want to get my mama out the hood & make her never have to work anymore. I think that’ll be the best way for me to pay her back especially for all the B.S I put her through.”

In the future expect many more bangers from Napy Haird Villan because he’s that n-gga with the hundreds. “Making music is about 95% of everything I do. I’m trying to make it less so I can get myself engaged in on the other side of the industry. I got plans to keep being my own songwriter, engineer, producer and manager until this hard work pays off. Until then, I’m going to need the people to f-ck with me one time while me & my gang run it up this summer. I got a lot of work dropping so I need everyone to stay tuned. VG taking over 2020.”

This guide has been updated with information for The Sims 3 Supernatural, which brings 11 new plants to the game in the form of bushes and mushrooms. These new plants are used primarily in the new Alchemy skill to make potions. To learn about all the new plants added in Supernatural, click here. Supernatural also brings a new alternate life state, the Fairy. They can use the powerful bloom power to make a plant grow to maturity or become harvestable. They also come with a hidden Green Thumb Trait, so essentially get six Traits.

The Sims 3’s World Adventures expansion pack also brings some exciting additions to the gardening skill. There are now ten more plants that can be grown, and a new way to use fruit. Nectar making goes amazingly well with gardening. You can turn fruit into Nectar, which will age and grow in value over time. Read up on the Nectar Making skill to learn more. Of course the Plant List is updated to show the locations of the new plants along with their rarities and growth times.

This Guide will help newbies by providing a walkthrough for how to get started and learn Gardening in the Sims 3 and its Expansions. Information is provided for all aspects of this skill. I’ll show you how to grow perfect plants, by evolving your plants’ quality over several generations. I also provide a full plant list for the Sims 3, which can be useful for gardeners by helping them in finding the rare types they’ve never grown.

I’ll try to provide all the secrets I’ve learned about gardening to help your Sims make the most money and get the best plants from your crop. Tips for the importance of sprinklers and how they can help to save time, upgrading sprinklers with auto-water and general guidelines for how to lay out your gardens are also provided.

Your Sim doesn’t have to be a large-scale gardener to enjoy the benefits of the Gardening skill. Most Sims will want to someday grow and fish the ingredients for ambrosia. You can easily make a crop of only life plants. Fishermen will also appreciate a nice apple tree in the front yard. Packing an apple for lunch on a marathon day of fishing is a great idea. Used with the steel bladder lifetime reward, one little apple can really go a long way to helping your Sim stay out at the lake longer.

I am striving to learn everything I can about this helpful and profitable Sims 3 skill. The guide has been updated over a dozen times so far, and has slowly evolved into an all-inclusive resource for gardening. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have readers submit tips through our Sims 3 forum, ask questions and deliver feedback to help me improve it. This is the first guide, of the four hundred or so articles about gaming I’ve written that I’ve nurtured and grown to this degree, so I hope I can someday bring it to a level of perfection that rivals my Sim’s garden!

Gardening Self Employment

With The Sims 3: Ambitions installed, gardeners can register self employed at the city hall after learning the first level of Gardening. Promotions depend on the amount earned gardening, and come with bonuses and the occasional trophy. Here’s the breakdown:

Gardening Cheats

There are no cheats in the Sims 3 specific to gardening, but there are some that can be useful to you. First, you can cheat to raise the gardening skill by making your Sim never fatigue, you can then read skill books. See my guide to raising skills by cheating. There, you’ll find information on maximizing mood and needs. Additionally, you can cheat to get any plant in the game. Press Control + Shift + C to open the cheat console, and type testingcheatsenabled true then buydebug. Now enter buy mode and go to sort by function. Click the ? and find the plants section. You can plant any type of fruit, vegetable, or special variety in the game. Harvest just one and you can have your gardener plant them to produce more.

Sprinklers

Sprinklers will help a lot when gardening in the Sims 3. They’ll allow your Sim to have a larger garden, because one of the steps from tend garden, the watering, is taken care of for you, every morning beginning at four o’clock. Plant your crops around sprinklers to maximize efficiency. In the morning, or before your Sim does their daily gardening routine, click on each of your Sprinklers to water all the plants in your garden. Give them a few seconds, then switch them right back off.

How to use automatic sprinklers The biggest tip I can give you for gardening is that you should try to get your handiness skill to at least level four so that you can make automatic sprinklers. You’ll find sprinklers under the outdoor activities tab. Once the sprinkler is placed, select it and try to upgrade. These sprinklers go off every morning and can water a small area.

How to Improve Sprinkler and General Gardening Efficiency It’s best to keep your garden tight together at first so that one sprinkler will do. It’s also more efficient for your Sim to harvest when they can constantly be touching another plant without moving too much. Later, with certain abilities learned through the skill journal, you will have less weeds and your fertilizer can last longer. This also helps your garden to be more efficient.

Making Money Gardening

It takes a bit more work on your part to make money as a gardener than some other methods, but it’s very rewarding gameplay and simoleon-wise. Gardening is just behind painting for my favorite way to be self employed in the game. You can use some of your harvest to help with the cooking skill, while the rest can be sold to the supermarket or used with Nectar Making.

To boost your Sim’s money-making capacity from gardening, consider working toward making your entire garden perfect. You see, Sims can only spend so long gardening each day before they’re exhausted or otherwise interrupted. You want your Sim to spend their time tending better quality plants.

Also keep in mind that it really isn’t worth the time spent by your Sim or the resources consumed by fertilizing low cash-crops like lettuce and even death flowers. Why? Well, you will likely take a loss. Gardening can’t blossom as a money-maker if you’re fertilizing your Sim’s tomatoes with all those Vampire Fish you’ve caught. Use something cheaper, like garlic for these plants. After all, with green thumb, super green thumb, all gardening challenges completed, and level 10 in the gardening skill, your Sim will be pushing plants very close to, if not always perfect anyway. Save the good stuff like perfect life fruit and vampire fish for your money trees and other high value crops!

The Best Plants to grow featuring Money Trees Eventually the gardener’s ultimate wish should be for a crop of Money Trees, Life Fruit plants, Flame Fruit and perhaps fruits for use with Nectar Making. Money trees are the best money makers of all the plants, and life fruit is used as an excellent fertilizer, sells at a decent rate, and is used in the ambrosia cooking recipe. Likewise, Flame Fruit is used in Angel Food Cake, which gives a nice moodlet.

In short, gardening is a great skill, and becomes even more useful to Sims with Nectar Making from the World Adventures expansion pack. It is easily one of my favorite skills in The Sims 3 because of its depth and complexity.

How well will your PC run GTA V?

The newest addition to the infamous videogame series designed by Rockstar Games, GTA V is a hard-hitting, thrill seeking criminal playground. Released for PC on the 14th of April 2015, Grand Theft Auto 5 has firmly cemented itself as one of the highest grossing and biggest games to date. However, cruising around Los Santos shooting up gang members and stealing tanks in the desert does come at a price. A very good PC.

GTA V’s huge immersive world comes equipped with a full functional stock market, dynamic weather system and thousands of things to do around the 81km2 map, it would make sense that you’re going to need a beastly PC to play this smoothly. The PC edition also boasts mod compatibility which has exploded in popularity, allowing the dedicated community design and share brilliant ideas. The base game on its own is very technically demanding for the average PC gamer, but five years’ worth of free expansion packs and the choice to add mods into the mix, is it going to be too much?

GTA 5 for Android – Can you believe it?! While it had been made available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 so far, it was never available on mobile phones! Now, you can play this game whenever you want, wherever you want, since it has been released on Android. Even on Android, it comes with great graphics and the game play is also excellent.

For those uninitiated, GTA 5 Android is an open world game wherein you can do whatever you like around the city whenever you want to, even in the midst of a mission.
