Breaking News : CPL 2023 Preview and Teams For this Season
 Jamaica Tallawahs
Where they finished: Champions (2022), 5th place (2021), Losing semifinalist (2020)
Overseas signings: Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Chris Green, Salman Irshad, Alex Hales
After seasons of middling returns on the field following plenty of turmoil off field that led to the eventual exit of their stalwart Andre Russell, the Tallawahs stunned everyone in 2022 winning three Play Off matches in a span of four days to lift their third CPL title. Tallawahs have kept most of their winning core from last year bar their talismanic skipper Rovman Powell who moved to Barbados Royals in a pre-season transfer. The architects of their Play Off wins from last year, Brandon King and Shamarh Brooks, both have not been in the best of form as is their overseas signing Alex Hales who will arrive only after completing his Hundred commitments. Imad Wasim has been in red hot form in T20s this year and will be the key in holding together the top and lower order while his erstwhile countryman Mohammad Amir will spearhead the pace attack. Tallawahs would also need Nicholson Gordon, who finished at the top of wicket charts in Super 50 competition, to step up in what is an otherwise inexperienced pace unit.
Likely starting XI: Brandon King, Kirk McKenzie, Raymon Reifer, Shamarh Brooks, Amir Jangoo (WK), Imad Wasim*, Fabian Allen, Chris Green*, Mohammad Amir*, Salman Irshad*, Nicholson Gordon
Barbados Royals
Where they finished: Runners up (2022), 6th place (2021), 5th place (2020)
Overseas signings: Donovan Ferreira, Laurie Evans, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Maheesh Theekshana/Qais Ahmad
The standout team in CPL 2022 and the only team to win more than half of their league games, Royals can count themselves unlucky to have one of their poorer days of the tournament happen in the finals. The strategy to move away from all-round heavy sides of 2020 and 2021 campaigns and bring in specialists proved particularly fruitful as all their overseas signings chipped in with their respective assigned roles. Rovman Powell's arrival bolsters their local talent pool while the likes of Laurie Evans and Donovan Ferreira fill in for Quinton de Kock and David Miller. Kyle Mayers and Rahkeem Cornwall can set them off to rapid starts in the Powerplay and Alick Athanaze is expected to light up the tournament in what will be his maiden CPL stint. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has a like-to-like swap in Maheesh Theekshana who stands to miss bulk of the tournament owing to commitments in LPL and Asia Cup with Qais Ahmad named as his partial replacement.
Likely starting XI: Kyle Mayers, Rahkeem Cornwall, Alick Athanaze, Kevin Wickham, Rovman Powell, Donovan Ferreira (WK)*, Jason Holder, Roelof Van Der Merwe*, Maheesh Theekshana/Qais Ahmad*, Obed Mccoy, Ramon Simmonds
St Lucia Kings
Where they finished: 4th place (2022), Runners up (2021), Runners up (2020)
Overseas signings: Faf du Plessis, Sikandar Raza, Peter Hatzoglou, Sean Williams, Chris Sole/Bhanuka Rajapaksa
St Lucia Kings turned around their fortunes in the Covid era making it to Play Off in three successive seasons, having done so just once in the first seven years. Ending up as runners up in 2020 and 2021, the Kings finished fourth place last year under Faf du Plessis. Notwithstanding his poor run in Major League Cricket, Du Plessis has been in fine form in the T20 circuit and his pairing with Johnson Charles makes them the best opening pair in the competition. The Zimbabwe duo of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza will bring both form and experience to the middle order that is lacking big-ticket local names. Alzarri Joseph and Chris Sole, at least up until the latter makes way for Bhanuka Rajapaksa, give the side a considerable edge with the new ball. Matthew Forde have impressed in LPL 2022 as well as the recently concluded Global T20 in Canada finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker and Kings would want him to extend that form in his sophomore year in CPL.
Likely starting XI: Faf Du Plessis*, Johnson Charles (WK), Sean Williams*, Roston Chase, Sikandar Raza*, Roshon Primus, Shadrack Descartes, Alzarri Joseph, Chris Sole*, Jeavor Royal, Matthew Forde
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Where they finished: 3rd place (2022), Losing semifinalist (2021), Losing semifinalist (2020)
Overseas signings: Rahmanullah Gurbaz/Mohammad Haris, Saim Ayub, Azam Khan, Imran Tahir, Dwaine Pretorius, Hazratullah Zazai
Always the bridesmaid but never the bride. The only side that has made it to the Play-Offs/semifinals every year but is yet to lift the silverware, Guyana will be hoping they clear the final hurdle this time around. They have stuck to their strategy of packing their squad with spinners and sub-continent batters who are good players of spin. Imran Tahir, the highest wicket-taker across the last three installments of CPL, will helm the spin attack with Gudakesh Motie, Kevin and Junior Sinclair in the supporting cast while the all-around trio of Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul and Odean Smith in charge of seam department in addition to adding to the lower middle order muscle. In Azam Khan and Saim Ayub Guyana have two fine players of spin in the middle order. Warriors have the advantage of playing the knockouts at their home ground in Providence and would ideally want it to stay true to its colours and bring their spinners into play, something which did not happen last season and cost them dearly.
Likely starting XI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK)*, Saim Ayub*, Shai Hope, Azam Khan (WK)*, Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul, Odean Smith, Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir*
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots
Where they finished: 5th place (2022), Champions (2021), 6th place (2020)
Overseas signings: Dewald Brevis/Blessing Muzarabani, Ambati Rayudu, Corbin Bosch, George Linde, Izharulhaq Naveed
If ever there was a side that had players looking for a platform to push their case for the national team, it would be the Patriots. Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher, Sherfane Rutherford, Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas have all played for West Indies in the recent past but currently find themselves out of favour. Dominic Drakes and Yannic Cariah are also in the fringes of white ball squads but are far from being certain picks for West Indies. The big name missing from their squad last season is skipper Dwayne Bravo who has moved back to home side Trinbago after two seasons with the Patriots. If the loss of Tristan Stubbs dented their middle order a touch, the possible loss of Dewald Brevis later, who got his maiden International call up in the home series against Australia, would serve as a near-killer blow. The bowling attack has variety but lacks class, the spin department in particular is amongst the weaker ones in the competition.
Likely starting XI: Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher (WK), Dewald Brevis*, Sherfane Rutherford, Ambati Rayudu*, Corbin Bosch*, Dominic Drakes, George Linde*, Yannic Cariah, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
Trinbago Knight Riders
Where they finished: 6th place (2022), Losing semifinalist (2021), Champions (2020)
Overseas signings: Martin Guptill, Rilee Rossouw, Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad, Waqar Salamkheil
Ahead of the last edition, a few other sides matched the might of Knight Riders on paper. And yet they startlingly went on to finish the wooden spoon holders. Trinbago gets even stronger with the homecoming of their most successful captain Dwayne Bravo after a two-year exile with Patriots and in the quartet of Pollard, Bravo, Narine, and Russell, the Knight Riders have the experience of over 2100 T20 caps. The recent batting form of Pooran, Pollard, and Russell augurs well for them making Knight Riders the most explosive middle order lineup in the tournament. Top order batting has been a nagging issue for Knight Riders in the last couple of seasons as they hope for someone to fill in the shoes of Lendl Simmons. The trio of Narine, Hosein and Noor Ahmad gives them the mantle of the best spin bowling attack ever to be assembled in a CPL squad while Pathirana's addition gives the pace attack a dimension that CPL have often lacked in recent years - that of raw pace.
Likely starting XI: Martin Guptill*, Mark Deyal, Rilee Rossouw*, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine, Matheesha Pathirana*, Jayden Seales

Lois Cooper says she was upsold thousands of dollars in extra services at a private, for-profit clinic, and when she started to ask questions, the doctor told her to leave. She's not the only Canadian who's gone through questionable practices. It's the pile of bills that sums up her medical journey.
"This is the note I made when I got the phone call in January," said the 75-year-old from Gravenhurst, Ont. "And I was told there'd be a $150 fee. That was the beginning of starting to pay for stuff."
Cooper had a macular hole in her right eye and needed medically necessary surgery called a vitrectomy, another solution. Cooper was referred to a private, for-profit clinic north of Toronto, but before the operation started, she was asked to sign off on optional tests, services, and procedures.
In later appointments following the surgery, the doctor told her that she would need to keep her face down for two weeks, which would require the rental of a special wedge-type pillow. He also recommended glasses that would refract her vision. Months later, he recommended laser surgery for eye floaters, which Cooper said didn't work. He even said he detected a mass behind her other eye that would require further surgery. A second opinion from a doctor in Toronto revealed there was no mass in her eye.
When Cooper asked questions, she was shown the door, but not before she was on the hook for close to $8,000 for appointments, equipment rentals, and procedures. Cooper was upsold.
"I wouldn't have spoken out if I hadn't heard Premier [Doug] Ford say that these private clinics won't charge you money, won't charge extra," she told CBC News. "It feels like it's my public duty to say that's not true."
According to upselling, according to Dr. Danyaal Raza, a family doctor at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, a patient is asked to pay for extra services that are uninsured when they're undergoing a procedure that should be publicly covered. It's different from extra when a private, for-profit clinic would bill the province for a procedure that's covered by government health insurance while also billing the patient.
Health Canada reports show that between April 2019 and March 2020, private, for-profit clinics upsold and illegally charged Canadians to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.
In early March, the federal government announced that it was going to cut more than $82 million in transfer payments to the provinces in cases where patients were asked to pay out of pocket for care that should have been covered in 2020. "You're paying out of pocket for health care you should not be paying for, and clinics are prohibited from charging you," said Andrew Longhurst, a health policy researcher at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.
Raza said it's a slippery slope between extra billing and upselling. "I think we need to be concerned about upselling because it's the thin edge of the wedge towards extra billing, where patients are told they can only get something that's publicly covered if they pay out of pocket."
Upselling can start with the power dynamic that often exists between patients and healthcare professionals. Cooper said it certainly started that way for her. "I was sent there by my medical professional; that would mean to me that this is where you should be, and this is how it's done, and this is what's expected, and you do it."
Once she got to what she described as a "large warehouse with no ceiling" that was packed with people, she had to sign documents before she was seen by anyone.
"You're not a doctor, you're not a nurse, and you don't have 10 years of medical training under your belt, so you're at a huge disadvantage when you're presented with information," he said. Cooper signed the documents, which she showed to CBC News, and had her vitrectomy. During the surgery, she said, her retina was torn and she was told cataracts were removed, even though Cooper had never been aware that she had cataracts.
She said she got her vision back in her right eye. However, in subsequent visits that cost her $150 for each appointment, the surgeon said he found a cataract in her other eye, told her she had dry eye disease, and convinced Cooper to get laser surgery for floaters.
What's more, the equipment Cooper's doctor told her to rent after the initial surgery, such as the special glasses and pillow, should have been covered by the government since it was deemed to be a medically necessary procedure. The bills have eroded Cooper's trust in a medical system that should be protecting patients.
"I don't know if it's illegal, but it's unethical to think that the behavior is unethical," she said. Cooper did not want to publicly name the clinic. CBC News reached out to the clinic for comment but did not receive a response.
Dr. David Urbach, surgeon-in-chief at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, said upselling is baked into the business model of public money going to private, for-profit clinics. "I don't believe they can be a viable business unless they're going to be paid over what the government is already paying public hospitals, or they're going to be levying all these unnecessary charges," he said.
What worries Raza is what he calls "the slow creep": as more patients are persuaded to spend money on additional tests and procedures, they may grow accustomed to the practice. "If you're already used to paying out of pocket for services that are uninsured, suddenly paying for this insured service feels normal," he said.
Ultimately, Cooper started asking questions when she was told there was a mass in her eye that would require another vitrectomy. "I asked him to explain the mass to me, and he looked at me like I had three heads," she recalled.
When she asked further questions, the ophthalmologist told her to leave. "And then he turned to his assistant and said, 'Charge this to OHIP.'"
Despite her ordeal, Cooper is happy that the original surgery to fix the hole in her eye was successful. Her vision isn't perfect, but she can read and drive. But her story is a cautionary tale, and she wants others to learn from it. "I just want people to be aware that when they go to a private clinic, they should make sure they ask questions and don't sign any papers. Go there first and get all the information on what they're going to want from you, and then maybe go talk to somebody else," Cooper said.
"If you're at a medical appointment and you're being asked to pay for a medical service, you should always ask whether or not you need to pay that fee to actually get the care that you came there for," Raza said. He added that if a patient feels they were unfairly charged for a medical service performed at a hospital, they should contact the hospital's patient relations department.
Unfortunately, Raza said, too much is put on the patient to process at a time when they are most vulnerable. "If I ask, 'Am I going to be denied care? Am I going to be put at the back of the line? – it's overwhelming, and frankly, we shouldn't really be expecting or asking patients to be able to decode federal and provincial legislation."

WHITERIVER EMERGENCY SERVICES RESPOND TO REPORTS OF A CRASHED VEHICLE AT 7:27 AM ON APRIL 21, 2020. officer everett jacobs is the first on the scene, and discovers a black 1967 mustang that has collided head-on with an old maple tree that stands sentry on the edge of town. near the car is the person who made the call, the local doctor who bikes every morning before opening up his office for the day, and when jacobs asks him to step back, the doctor, with blood on his hands, looks up to him and says grimly: “one occupant, and i’m pretty sure he’s deceased.”
whiteriver is a small town, the kind of town where everyone knows everything, and the doctor, decker, is by no means a young man; jacobs saw him when he was a kid, brings his kids to see him because he’s the best (not the only practitioner, but in the eyes of his patients, he might as well be). it’s against protocol, the lines of text seared into jacobs’ memory, screaming protests at this breach, but when he hears those words - i’m pretty sure he’s deceased - jacobs waves him back, allows him to continue his examination, because either way, he’ll get a good look; if he’s alive, well, decker will treat him while they await transport to the big hospital in the city, and if he’s dead -- decker doubles as the guy who does the autopsies... (coroner, jacobs thinks belatedly; that’s the word for it.)
the ambulance arrives, red light swirling, as jacobs has cautiously treaded closer, sweeping the beam of his light across the interior of the car, rather uselessly because the sun’s already on the horizon, its golden-yellow rays glinting off something in the passenger seat. jacobs’ cousin anita is one of the paramedics, and as she and her partner exit the vehicle, jacobs is retreating, walking the perimeter of the car (admiring the paint, the detail, the love that was obviously put into it prior to the wreck), towards the passenger’s side, because this is his job: to determine what happened. but every step he takes is minuscule, and it seems to take him ages to reach the door, because this is his first dead body despite his ten years wearing a uniform; it isn’t that nobody dies in whiteriver, it isn’t even a town where you can proclaim no one is murdered (before his time, there was that serial murderer, fifteen dead bodies, there’s a memorial in the town square; just last week he arrested a handful of teens for vandalizing it) - but through luck, maybe, it’s never been him to respond to the calls involving corpses. they’ve only ever come when he’s off-duty, or preoccupied, and there’s a grumble in the precinct every time, someone wondering aloud why it’s never jacobs.
but it’s jacobs now, and as he pulls open the door of the mustang, he wishes to god it wasn’t.
blood has pooled on the seat, but that’s not what draws his attention, eyes tracking immediately to the pistol, engraved with - ivory, maybe? the grip is elegant, spattered with blood, lying amid the puddle of red and shards of glass from the caved-in windshield. the markings are clearly something, a depiction of something or -one, but he can’t make it out. his hand grips instinctively at the sidearm holstered on his belt, that hair-trigger reaction drilled into his mind in the academy, and he eyes the body - definitely dead, anita, max and decker had whispered, though not unkindly - but he doesn’t relax; jacobs fears dying, a goddamn idiotic phobia for a man in uniform, his brother reminds him frequently, and he has to bite his tongue every time so he doesn’t spit back, well, i didn’t want this job, but what the hell else was i supposed to do?
now he sees what the sun had reflected off of, and jacobs inhales, loosening his fingers, catching his tongue between his teeth as he pulls a glove from the pocket of his vest; gingerly, he grips the flask, gunmetal grey and liquid sloshing inside. he places his flashlight atop the car, clicked off, and with a small pause to fully glove both of his hands, he unscrews the cap, met immediately with the aroma of tequila - retracting from the stench with a visceral disgust. his father was a recovering alcoholic, though recovering didn’t join that label until jacobs was twelve, when his father nearly killed a man in a drunken hit-and-run -- and those twelve years were long enough to create a full-body aversion to even the slightest whiff of liquor.
he holds up the flask as if it’s the head of a decapitated enemy, and he’s the reluctant victor of some battle; slightly shamed, head bowed, expression pinched.
the trio discussing the extent of wounds, attempting to determine which killed their john doe all look up, and as a collective, they exhale, but it isn’t a noise of disgust; it’s a breath of sorrow, and they observe a moment of silence for the war this man had been fighting.
***
THE LICENSE IN HIS WALLET IDENTIFIES HIM AS JAMES FORD, but a multitude of forged badges - local and federal law enforcement - offer a myriad of other names. fingerprints call him dean winchester, and jacobs has a permanent crease between his brows as he studies the file that accompanies it: first-degree murder, robbery, assault, impersonation of a federal officer, fraud... it’s a laundry list of crimes, and the tension in his temples beats a steady rhythm the more he reads. there’s blogs and documentaries dedicated to this man, there’s conspiracies and theories and even an obscure book series from some writer who seems to be a ghost that follows a man named dean and his brother, sam - and jacobs’ dean has a brother named sam, too.
or had, at least, because he seems to be dead ---- though it seems dean has been dead a couple times, too. st. louis, then again in colorado, and apparently a handful of other times, but the reports are conflicting and his headache’s worsening. there’s reporters camped out in front of the station, in front of the hospital, scouting his house and anita’s and max’s and decker’s, searching for any word, quote, photo they can get.
he abandons his computer mid-article detailing the occult ties to dean winchester, proclaiming he’s a satan-worshiper, a demon himself, satan himself, jacobs retreating to the bathroom, locking himself in a stall, and trying to remember what that engraving on the handle of dean winchester’s gun showed.
***
SAM WINCHESTER IS SITTING IN FRONT OF THE TELEVISION, watching the nonstop reporting of the ‘apparent death of dean winchester’ - a headline accompanied by a subtitle that reads “again?” they call him a monster, a killer, insane, they remind the public how dangerous he was, that he was one of the most wanted men in the country once upon a time. social media has their theories, their criticisms, some expressing gratitude he’s dead, while others wonder how he’s managed to seemingly die so many times, how he keeps slipping out of custody, and anyway, is he really dead now? some post his mugshot and a series of tweets insisting they’ve seen him, met him, the more bold ones who don’t care about reputation coming outright and saying he saved them from a monster; that his story is real, only to be dismissed as “just as crazy as him” / “he brainwashed u, he’s a psycho, that’s what they do.”
they speak of him as if he isn’t a hero, a man who’s saved the world once or thrice or a dozen times.
sam is in a motel, because he could not be home; he could not let amelia see him crumbling. he had accepted that his brother was gone, though some part of him continued to hope he may resurface; after heaven and hell, why not escape purgatory as well? but time passed, seasons came and went, months became years and sam began to understand it was a futile hope, that he was merely hurting himself the longer he clung to this, the longer he kept dean with him; he was gone, and he wouldn’t want sam like this, anyway, always with an eye and foot towards the door. he would want him to live, and sam could hear dean say that, and hears it again in this motel room that smells of rotten linen: you deserve a life, sammy, it’s all i ever wanted for you.
the weight of the wedding ring on his finger grounds him, and he twists and pulls at it, just like dean did to the one he wears - wore. the one that belonged to their mother.
there’s a knock on the door, quick and efficient, and sam tenses, pulling from a holster on his side a sleek grey pistol.
a voice calls his name - not the false surname he uses now in this new life, but the one he was born to, and he shudders, cocking back the hammer of his gun, crossing the room with military precision.
the voice calls again, but not just his name; this time, she says, “i’m a friend. i knew dean.”
***
ZARI IS IN THE PASSENGER’S SEAT OF THE IMPALA. sam is behind the wheel. the car is freshly waxed and detailed, the rims shining silver beneath the pale moonlight. around the rearview mirror is the same air freshener dean liked, tree-shaped and bought from a gas station; a charm that bobby gave him bobbles beside it, a little sigil on a metal chain. zari doesn’t know the symbolism of it.
nothing about the car’s changed. dean’s arsenal and talismans are still in the hidden compartment of the trunk; sam and dean’s initials are still engraved in their spot; there’s still a dent in the hood of the car from a typically angry shapeshifter. dean’s knife made from dragonbone and his bible from pastor jim, one of the people who raised the boys when their own father couldn’t, and his stash of pain medication he always believed sam never knew about but did from day one, are all still in the center console; sam hasn’t changed a thing, has just kept up the appearance and the mechanics, keeping the impala pretty and running good for dean’s return. it’s been a week and the news still features his face, and zari is scrolling through a conspiracy thread when they pull into the parking lot; she’s quiet, and so is sam, and the radio is on but it’s low, tuned to one of dean’s favorite stations (sam never even changed the station, never touched the dial once). he looks sideways to his company, this woman who said she was a friend of dean’s - just a friend, she repeated, and sam nodded - who worked with him, hunted with him, because he’s been back for years and didn’t say anything.
he’d been back for years, and he never said anything.
she said it was because dean didn’t want to pull sam away from his life when he was finally living; “not again,” dean had said to her, and though she didn’t understand, sam has never forgotten the way dean crept into his stanford apartment, and how he’s blamed himself for what happened to jessica, in the same way sam shoulders the same guilt. sam is pale, waxen, feeling as dead as his brother is (“it is him,” zari had whispered, and she was crying when she said it; “it’s really him.”) he parks the impala, rolling to a stop and cutting the engine, and zari pockets her phone, looking up at him, then to the moon; it’s not quite full, but it’s swollen and it’s bright, and the lot is illuminated with its white light, the world in shades of white and blue. they exit, doors shutting in unison, and zari jerks her head to the left, to a set of doors by the loading bay of the hospital.
she and a ‘friend’, she said, bribed the right people, and they’ll bring dean’s body to them, to do with what they wish rather than have it cremated like the powers that be decreed.
the doors shudder open; a small woman keeps her head low as she wheels out a body bag on a gurney, not looking at either of them. in the doorway is a shadow, slightly larger than the woman, but it melds into the rest of the darkness after the exchange is complete; not a word is said while the body is placed in the backseat of the impala, and the woman disappears without even a nod.
zari and sam slide into the car, and sam swallows loudly, hands shaking, too badly to even turn the key; zari reaches to hold his wrist, and, quietly, they switch seats.
sam keeps his eyes on his feet, but his cries aren’t quiet, and zari holds his hand while she drives.
***
TWO PEOPLE STAND NEAR THE PYRE. sam reacts visibly to one as he turns to see them, rushing to help hoist dean’s body, sam’s grip failing; victor henriksen smiles at him, a brief flash of teeth, before shifting his focus to assisting zari in removing dean’s corpse from the bag. he’s been in a morgue for a week, but the freezer only staves off so much decay, and the four of them feel their stomachs churn at the sight of dean atop the unlit wood. victor retreats to the man he’d been speaking to before, who sam eyes with confusion, then alarm as his mouth twists in a growl, fangs glistening.
“yes, benny’s a vampire,” zari says, and sam feels his confusion deepening, heavy in his eyes.
benny offers a curt nod, then says in his southern drawl, “met him in purgatory. got each other out.” he sees sam’s disbelief, and he laughs - an awkward noise at a funeral, and benny coughs so that he doesn’t cry. he keeps it at that, not telling sam all of the things he could, because those things - the love he felt for dean, most of all - he wishes to keep for himself.
victor is stepping forward to hug sam, and sam finally gives him a good look, and he’s smiling now, as best as he can. he asks victor how he is, how he’s been, and victor shrugs his shoulders; he’d been expecting something violent, something vitriolic, for knowing dean was here and not telling sam.
but if sam feels that way (and he does, slightly, vaguely) he keeps it to himself.
it’s benny who lights the pyre; sam doesn’t question this, though he still wonders about him, finding it difficult to envision dean so close with a supernatural. as the flames burn, as dean’s body is reduced to ash, zari and benny huddle together, and victor has sam’s hand in his; as they offer dean to eternal peace, the four of them, the four who’ve loved dean the most in his life, all experience the same thing: the sensation like breathing on the napes of their neck, a shudder of a breeze that seems to say thank you.
the sun has risen by the time the fire dies, the wood spent, a pile of ash atop the blackened ground; benny drives the stake of a cross into the dirt, carved across it the simple inscription “DW.—1.24.79-4.21.20.”

Tumblr media
MEILLEUR FILM Ford v Ferrari The Irishman Jojo Rabbit Joker Little Women Marriage Story 1917 Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood Parasite
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE RÉALISATION
Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood Martin Scorsese, The Irishman Bong Joon-ho, Parasite Todd Phillips, Joker Sam Mendes, 1917
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR ACTEUR
Antonio Banderas, Pain and Glory Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood Adam Driver, Marriage Story Joaquin Phoenix, Joker Jonathan Pryce, The Two Popes
Choix et prédiction : Joaquin Phoenix est probablement le meilleur acteur de sa génération, et avec The Master et You Were Never Really Here, sa performance dans Joker forme une troublante trilogie.
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE ACTRICE
Cynthia Erivo, Harriet Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story Saoirse Ronan, Little Women Charlize Theron, Bombshell Renee Zellweger, Judy
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR ACTEUR DE SOUTIEN
Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes Al Pacino, The Irishman Joe Pesci, The Irishman Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE ACTRICE DE SOUTIEN
Kathy Bates, Richard Jewell Laura Dern, Marriage Story Scarlett Johannson, Jojo Rabbit Florence Pugh, Little Women Margot Robbie, Bombshell
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR SCÉNARIO ORIGINAL
Knives Out, Rian Johnson Marriage Story, Noah Baumbach 1917, Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino Parasite, Bong Joon-ho, Jin Won Han
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE ADAPTATION
The Irishman, Steven Zaillian Jojo Rabbit, Taika Waititi Joker, Todd Phillips, Scott Silver Little Women, Greta Gerwig The Two Popes, Anthony McCarten
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE DIRECTION PHOTO
The Irishman, Rodrigo Prieto Joker, Lawrence Sher The Lighthouse, Jarin Blaschke 1917, Roger Deakins Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Robert Richardson Choix :  Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, un plaisir visuel de tous les instants.
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR MONTAGE
Ford v Ferrari, Michael McCusker, Andrew Buckland The Irishman, Thelma Schoonmaker Jojo Rabbit, Tom Eagles Joker, Jeff Groth Parasite, Jinmo Yang
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR MONTAGE SONORE
Ford v Ferrari, Don Sylvester Joker, Alan Robert Murray 1917, Oliver Tarney, Rachel Tate Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Wylie Stateman Star Wars: The Rise of SkyWalker, Matthew Wood, David Acord
MEILLEUR MIX SONORE Ad Astra Ford v Ferrari Joker 1917 Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood Choix : Ford v Ferrari. Prédiction : 1917.
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE DIRECTION ARTISTIQUE
The Irishman, Bob Shaw and Regina Graves Jojo Rabbit, Ra Vincent and Nora Sopkova 1917, Dennis Gassner and Lee Sandales Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh Parasite, Lee Ha-Jun and Cho Won Woo, Han Ga Ram, and Cho Hee
Choix et prédiction : Je vais y aller pour la reconstitution d’époque, les décors de western, Spahn Ranch dans Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, mais 1917 pourrait rafler ce prix également. Parasite aussi serait plausible.
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE MUSIQUE ORIGINALE
Joker, Hildur Guðnadóttir Little Women, Alexandre Desplat Marriage Story,Randy Newman 1917, Thomas Newman Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, John Williams
Tumblr media
MEILLEURE CHANSON ORIGINALE
I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,  Toy Story 4 I’m Gonna Love Me Again, Rocketman I’m Standing With You, Breakthrough Into the Unknown, Frozen 2 Stand Up, Harriet
Choix : Je n’ai pas encore vu Frozen 2, mais je suis obsédé par Into the Unknown telle que chantée par Idina Menzel.
Prédiction : Difficile de résister à remettre un prix à Elton John pour I’m Gonna Love Me Again!
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR MAQUILLAGE ET MEILLEURE COIFFURE
Bombshell Joker Judy Maleficent: Mistress of Evil 1917
Tumblr media
MEILLEURS COSTUMES
The Irishman, Sandy Powell, Christopher Peterson Jojo Rabbit, Mayes C. Rubeo Joker, Mark Bridges Little Women, Jacqueline Durran Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Arianne Phillips
Tumblr media
MEILLEURS EFFETS VISUELS
Avengers Endgame The Irishman 1917 The Lion King Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR FILM INTERNATIONAL
Corpus Christi, Jan Komasa Honeyland, Tamara Kotevska, Ljubo Stefanov Les Misérables, Ladj Ly Douleur et gloire, Pedro Almodovar Parasite, Bong Joon Ho
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR FILM D’ANIMATION
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Dean DeBlois J'ai perdu mon corps, Jeremy Clapin Klaus, Sergio Pablos Missing Link, Chris Butler Toy Story 4,  Josh Cooley
Prédiction :  Je n’en ai vu aucun. Je vais dire Toy Story 4. Comme ça.
MEILLEUR COURT MÉTRAGE D’ANIMATION
Dcera, Daria Kashcheeva Hair Love, Matthew A. Cherry Kitbull, Rosana Sullivan Memorable, Bruno Collet Sister, Siqi Song
Prédiction : Je n’en ai vu aucun. Je vais dire Hair Love. Comme ça.
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR DOCUMENTAIRE
American Factory, Julia Rieichert, Steven Bognar The Cave, Feras Fayyad The Edge of Democracy, Petra Costa For Sama, Waad Al-Kateab, Edward Watts Honeyland, Tamara Kotevska, Ljubo Stefanov
Prédiction : Paraît que For Sama est exceptionnel.
MEILLEUR COURT MÉTRAGE DOCUMENTAIRE
In the Absence Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone, Carol Dysinger Life Overtakes Me, Kristine Samuelson, John Haptas St. Louis Superman Walk Run Cha-Cha, Laura Nix
Prédiction : Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone. Le titre m’intrigue.
Tumblr media
MEILLEUR COURT MÉTRAGE
Brotherhood, Meryam Joobeur Nefta Football Club, Yves Piat The Neighbors’ Window, Marshall Curry Saria, Bryan Buckley Une soeur, Delphine Girard
