Junto a este propulsor está a transmissão automática Tiptronic de seis velocidades com conversor de torque. Thrifty Rides: The Cheapest New Sedans for 2020

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a car with a nice interior, the latest technologies, and solid performance. We already wrote about the cheapest new SUVs you can buy, and now we’re taking a look at the lowest-priced sedans on the market. Keep reading to learn about the cheapest new sedans available for the 2020 model year and which ones are worth the money.

2020 Toyota Corolla – $20,555

The Honda Civic might be the benchmark of the compact sedan segment, but the Corolla offers a lot of bang for the buck, whether that’s the $20,555 base model or the efficient $24,055 hybrid variant that delivers 52 mpg combined. Along with an impressive list of standard safety features, the popular sedan offers a well-balanced ride and good handling.

2020 Hyundai Elantra – $20,105

For 2020, Hyundai has fine-tuned the Elantra by boosting fuel economy 2 mpg on most models, with the most efficient Elantra netting up to 36 mpg combined. Standard features include a 5-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, a 3.5-inch instrument cluster display, and a good number of safety technologies such as forward collision avoidance assist and lane keeping assist. It separates itself from many other affordable sedans with its long five-year/60,000 basic warranty and 10-year/100,000 powertrain warranty.

2020 Nissan Sentra – $20,015

The new 2020 Nissan Sentra has improved greatly from its predecessor. As we noted in our Sentra review, it’s quicker and more stylish than before. Although it’s not among the best driving affordable sedans on the market, it benefits from a spacious interior. A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, as are many safety technologies. Higher trims are still a good value, with SV Premium Package models boasting quilted leather-appointed seats for just $23,655.

2020 Volkswagen Jetta – $19,815

What? A German car that’s affordable? One of the cheapest new sedans for 2020, the Volkswagen Jetta, has a spacious, if spartan, interior with many technology features. That includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Aut, and  LED headlights and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels are unexpected standard goodies.

2020 Subaru Impreza sedan – $19,595

Revised for 2020, the Subaru Impreza gets a fresh new exterior design and a spacious interior. Considering it comes standard with all-wheel drive while other rivals don’t, the base Impreza is well-priced. But Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite is optional, bundling together pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, and lane keep assist functions.

2020 Kia Forte – $18,855

The Kia Forte is the cheapest car in its compact sedan competitive set. Although it’s one of the lowest-priced sedans around, it’s packed with standard technologies, including an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Forte boasts fuel economy of up to 35 mpg combined and a roomy back seat.

2020 Chevrolet Sonic sedan – $17,595

Slotting between the Spark city car and the Malibu midsize sedan, the Sonic is available as a sedan or hatchback. It offers agile handling, and its 1.4-liter turbocharged engine offers good power for passing other cars.  A 7-inch touchscreen is standard and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2020 Kia Rio sedan – $16,815

This hidden gem has a lot to offer. We liked the Kia Rio so much that it was a finalist in our 2018 Car of the Year competition. We’ve praised the Rio for its smooth and quiet ride, along with its attractive interior. Some of the lowest-priced sedans on the market offer few technologies, but that’s not the case with the Rio. It has a good number of standard features, including a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2020 Toyota Yaris sedan- $16,605

There are plenty of refined affordable sedans out there, but the Yaris is not one of them. It features a choppy ride even on good roads. That said, the subcompact is nimble around town and offers solid fuel economy of 32/40 mpg city/highway.

2020 Hyundai Accent – $16,250

Neither stylish nor fun to drive, the subcompact Hyundai Accent is easy to forget. But for 2020, the Accent gets an upgraded 33/41 mpg fuel economy rating, which may be enough to entice some buyers.

2020 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 – $15,990

The Mirage G4 is available in a fun reddish-purple paint color. Unfortunately, other than that and its very low price, there are few positive things we can say about this car. Along with an underpowered three-cylinder engine, the Mirage G4 suffers from a bumpy ride and cheap interior.

2020 Nissan Versa – $15,655

Of all the cheapest new sedans for 2020, the Versa takes the cake. It has the lowest starting price of any sedan on the market, and it has its fair share of positive traits. Although slow and underpowered, the Versa has a well-designed interior, and lots of standard features. These include three USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and high beam assist. Although it’s the cheapest new sedan, the Versa is not the least expensive new car on the market. That title goes to the Chevrolet Spark hatchback at $14,095.

The latter is going to push expectations upward; the driver-oriented layout is logical, the materials are off the top shelf, and the attention to detail is there for all to enjoy the two-tone finish underscores its upscale aspirations. Polo GTS: confira preço, lançamento no Brasil e ficha técnica

A Volkswagen acaba de apresentar, para a imprensa especializada, o novo Polo GTS. Modelo, já esperado no Brasil, parte de R$ 99.470 e pode chegar a R$ 103.440, se forem considerados os opcionais. O lançamento da versão esportiva do irmão sedã, Virtus GTS, ficou para fevereiro.

Motor do Polo GTS 2020

O Volkswagen Polo GTS é equipado com motor motor 250 TSI (1.4 turbo) capaz de gerar 150 cavalos (cv) e 25,5 kgfm de torque. Os números de fábrica indicam o 0 a 100 km/h em 8,4 segundos e velocidade máxima limitada a 207 km/h.

O câmbio é automático de seis velocidades e a tração é dianteira. O conjunto motriz é o mesmo dos modelos T-Cross, Tiguan e Jetta.

Before we get to our top 10 list of the cheapest new cars available for 2020, keep in mind that there’s more to a new car’s cost than just the starting price. A 147-hp four-cylinder engine, six-speed manual, and automatic emergency braking are all standard. Get the $800 CVT for the best EPA-rated fuel economy of any Forte model, at 31/41 mpg. 2020 Kia Soul

Base Price: $18,535 If SUV-like style is what you’re after, the new Kia Soul could be the affordable new car for you. The front-drive compact hatch does offer automatic emergency braking, but only on the S trim and above. The 2020 Soul LX lacks that safety feature, but the base model does offer a slightly higher seating position than many others on this list, plus a 7.0-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Base Price: $17,595 If the smaller Spark’s 98 horsepower isn’t enough for your driving needs, a base 2020 Sonic sedan could be the affordable new car with your name on it. The aging Sonic is powered by a 138-hp turbo-four and mated to a six-speed automatic. Aside from that sedan body style (and more power than the Spark), the LS trim gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but lower fuel economy than the Spark. 2019 Honda Fit

Base Price: $17,120 With the redesigned 2020 Honda Fit on the way, you may be able to score a good deal on one of the last remaining 2019s. The Fit may be a small affordable car, but its interior is far more spacious than you’d expect. A CVT will cost you $800 over the standard six-speed manual; either way, the Fit remains one of the better subcompacts around. To get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you’ll have to step all the way to the $19,090 EX trim, but then you also get advanced safety tech including automatic emergency braking and more basic features like hands-free keyless access. 2020 Kia Rio

Base Price: $16,675 The Rio made it to our Car of the Year finalist round a couple years ago, and the 2020 model gets meaningful updates. The 2020 Rio’s new engine is less powerful than the one it replaces, but at 120 hp, it should still get the job done. An automatic transmission is standard, and it’s a new CVT. We haven’t yet driven the 2020 Rio with the available CVT, but we weren’t impressed by the transmission in the new Forte. Still, the Rio enters 2020 with better fuel economy and standard compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 2019 Toyota Yaris

Base Price: $16,555 (for a 2019 model) The Toyota Yaris sedan and 2020 Yaris hatchback are actually Mazdas wearing bold Toyota grilles and badges. And they’re pretty good cars. Although we don’t have pricing info on the 2020 Yaris as this is written, the 2019 sedan comes with automatic emergency braking even on the base model. 2020 Hyundai Accent

Base Price: $15,925 As you’d expect, Hyundai leads with value. The 2020 Accent SE has a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty as well as remote keyless entry, power door locks, and power windows. An automatic is $1,000 more, and if fuel economy is important to you, you should consider it. As long as you’re not expecting a sporty daily driver, know that the 2020 Accent gets 33/41 mpg city/highway, an impressive bump above the 2019 model’s 28/38 mpg when it had a six-speed automatic. Base Price: $15,625 Nissan’s best-selling subcompact returns for 2020 only as a redesigned sedan. Admirably, automatic emergency braking is standard on the base model, as it’s way more content than any true base-model Versa you may have seen on a dealer lot in years past. The 2020 Versa S even has power door locks and power windows with a one-touch up/down control on the driver’s side—not every automaker offering this feature at these low prices offers auto up and down. A CVT will raise the 2020 Versa’s price by $1,670. Wait, what about the Sentra? The redesigned Sentra sedan may qualify at the top end of this cheapest new cars list once it goes on sale in the U.S. 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage

Base Price: $14,990 One of the cheapest new cars of 2020 is also one of the most efficient. If the 2020 Mirage four-door hatch enters the new model year with the same destination charge as last year, it will squeak in at just under 15 grand. Not bad. With its standard five-speed manual transmission, the Mirage gets 33/41 mpg, but those figures jump to 36/43 mpg with the CVT. Be forewarned, though: Even with a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, the 78-hp Mirage isn’t our favorite car to drive. 2020 Chevrolet Spark

Base Price: $14,095 The small Spark hatchback is Chevy’s smallest car, serving as an entry to the brand (while the Cruze compact and others get discontinued). Even as a base model, the 2020 Spark includes a 7.0-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. If you want power windows, power locks, or remote keyless entry, you’ll have to upgrade from the LS to the 1LT model, but cool exterior colors including the distinctive Passion Fruit as well as bright red, orange, and Caribbean Blue are also available. Polo GTS: motor, detalhes, equipamentos, consumo, desempenho, fotos

Junto do Virtus, que também ganhou configuração GTS (Gran Turismo Sport), o novo Volkswagen Polo GTS basicamente já desembarcou no Brasil. O hatch esportivo chega às concessionárias no início de 2020.

Tanto o Polo como o Virtus GTS foram apresentados no Salão do Automóvel de São Paulo 2018. Entre tantas outras máquinas expostas no evento, o Polo GTS conseguiu despertar a atenção do público.

A montadora havia anunciado planos para lançar o Polo e Virtus versão esportiva no Brasil. Isso quando a companhia apresentou seus planos para a América Latina. Com isso, aos poucos, a Volks foi revelando alguns detalhes do seu mais “novo” carro.

Tecnologia e esportividade são pontos fortes do novo Volkswagen Polo GTS.

Em seu interior, a cor vermelha se faz presente em diversas áreas, reforçando o ar de esportividade. Embaixo do capô, ele abriga motorização 1.4 TSI de 150 cv de potência.

Por enquanto, o novo esportivo da Volkswagen segue como protótipo, ou seja, algumas modificações devem ocorrer até o seu lançamento oficial no ano que vem.

Polo GTS – história

A sigla GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) surgiu em meados dos anos 1980, no Passat. Um ano seguinte, a Volkswagen resolveu dar um sobrenome ao esportivo, passando a se chamar Passat GTS Pointer.

Logo em seguida, a Volkswagen lançou o Gol GTS, produzido entre anos de 1987 a 1994. Ele chegou como uma “versão melhorada” da configuração GT.

O Gol GTS era equipado com motor 1.8 carburado e produzia 99 cv de potência. O clássico esportivo fazia de zero a 100 km/h em 10,7 segundos.

O volante em quatro raios relembrava os carros da Volkswagen dos anos 70, bem como o painel. Mais tarde, o Gol Gran Turismo Sport ganhou outras novidades, como o volante quatro bolas, retrovisores anexos às portas, além do painel com comandos satélite.

Vale lembrar que no Salão do Automóvel de São Paulo 2016, a Volkswagen causou furor no evento ao apresentar um Gol GT conceito.

De fato, as modalidades esportivas da VW eram o sonho de consumo de muitos brasileiros naquela época — e, claro, se estende até hoje. Agora, com a chegada do novo Polo GTS, pode-se dizer que futuramente esse esportivo poderá, também, se tornar um clássico.

Afinal, com o lançamento do hatch, marca-se o retorno do emblemático GTS em solo nacional. Saiba mais abaixo:

Polo GTS – detalhes

O Polo GTS é um carro com linhas agressivas que remetem a um esportivo, de fato. O vermelho, que já virou sinônimo de esportividade, se faz presente tanto interior quanto no exterior.

No modelo oficial que estará à venda em 2020, uma linha vermelha divide a grade superior em duas partes na dianteira. A faixa vai até internamente no farol. Por falar em faróis, eles são em full-led.

Na parte traseira, assim como os faróis, as lanternas também são em leds. Quanto ao design, há um alongamento no topo que, consequentemente, aumenta o aerofólio. Ele é “gravado” na tampa do porta-malas, da mesma maneira que em outros VW Polo.

Trazendo características do modelo europeu, o GTS traz detalhes do GTI. O para-choque traseiro é texturizado e há abertura na esquerda que faz um contorno para a ponteira dupla do escapamento.

A grade é do tipo colmeia e traz a identificação “GTS”. A esportividade Gran Turismo Sport também é ressaltada por meio da tonalidade preta utilizada em vários pontos da carroceria do Gol GTS, como nas soleiras, retrovisores, além dos para-choques.

As rodas são exclusivas. Em aro 17 com pneus Pirelli 205/50 Cinturato P7. Elas devem ter acabamento diamantado (lembrando que é um conceito, então a confirmação das rodas deverá ser feita em 2020).

Por dentro, mais esportividade no Gol GTS, e também mais vermelho: na costura do volante em couro, na alavanca de câmbio, nos tapetes, painel e banco.

O volante, que possui a sigla “GTS” na base, tem excelente empunhadura. O interior faz jus ao “sobrenome” GTS, pois os bancos dianteiros (tipo concha) são de encantar, uma vez que eles “abraçam” o condutor e passageiro.

Por falar neles, o encosto de cabeça é incorporado ao banco, forrado com tecido e mesclado em couro. Mas, desta vez, os assentos não são produzidos pela grife Recaro. As linhas horizontais presentes no banco do Gol GTS lembram os modelos da década de 1980.

A Volkswagen cuidou de cada detalhe no hatch, um exemplo é o painel digital, como o velocímetro com tipografia em itálico. Outro ponto que chama atenção é a cor preta no interior do Gol GTS. Bancos, teto, laterais da porta e painel foram escurecidos.

O Volkswagen Polo GTS chega às concessionárias com motor 1.4 TSI de 150 cv de potência (etanol ou gasolina) e 250 Nm de torque (25,5 kgfm). O conjunto é o mesmo que equipa a versão highline do T-Cross.

Com esse conjunto, o Polo GTS pode fazer de zero a 100 km/h em 8,5 segundos, ou até menos (igual o antigo VW Golf 1.4 TSI).

O câmbio é automático de seis velocidades, com mudança de marchas em rotações elevadas. Além disso, o motorista pode fazer as trocas por meio das aletas atrás do volante (Paddle Shift).

Por falar em câmbio, alguns incômodos são perceptíveis, como os trancos, por exemplo. Embora isso, as trocas são rápidas.

As trocas através do Paddle Shift podem propiciar ainda mais esportividade. Mas um ponto negativo das aletas de plástico no Polo GTS é o tamanho. Elas são muito pequenas.

Se você chegou até aqui aguardando uma transmissão manual, saiba que a Volkswagen não possui planos para essa opção.

Por se tratar de um conceito, a Volks não divulgou muitos detalhes até o momento sobre desempenho. Mas o hatch esportivo já foi testado pela imprensa e podemos dizer que ele se saiu muito bem. O VW Polo GTS faz curvas bem. Também é um carro firme.

Para animar ainda mais, o Polo GTS contém quatro modos para condução, que proporcionam mudança na assistência da direção, ponto de troca da marcha, assim como a entrega de torque.

Para apimentar mais, o condutor poderá utilizar o modo Sport, que gera um ronco de escape (esse sistema foi oriundo do Jetta).

A Volkswagen ainda não divulgou os valores do novo Polo Gran Turismo Sport, mas pode-se esperar um custo de aproximadamente R$ 90 mil.

Quanto à lista de equipamentos, isso ainda é uma incógnita, a montadora só irá fazer essa revelação no ano que vem. No entanto, podemos prever um Polo GTS parecido com o que a Highline oferece, ou seja, sensor de estacionamento dianteiro, retrovisor eletrocrômico, cluster digital, navegação GPS e central multimídia de 8 polegadas DiscoverMedia. Start Stop também está confirmado.

A tela multimídia oferece, dentre outros recursos, cronômetro, informações sobre temperatura de água e óleo, e pressão turbo.

Já o porta-malas tem 300 litros de capacidade.

Embora tenha poucos detalhes sobre o carro, reunimos aqui todas as informações do veículo. O Notícias Automotivas ainda tentou tirar alguns detalhes com a assessoria da Volks, mas sem sucesso. Aguardemos 2020.

A chegada às concessionárias está programada para o primeiro trimestre de 2020.

Detalhes do irmão (Virtus)

O Virtus GTS segue com motor TSI de 150 cv de potência e 25,5 kgfm de torque.

Quanto ao design, o sedan manteve alguns detalhes como no irmão Polo: feche vermelho; o para-choque dianteiro ganhou detalhe em preto, deixando-o ainda mais com cara de esportivo.

Herdado do Jetta GLI (Gran Luxury Injection), o Virtus GTS também conta com um emulador que faz o carro ter um ronco. Ao colocar no modo Sport, o veículo ganha a “transformação” de esporte.

Inclusive, a Volkswagen teve uma discussão interna para definir se ambos os carros deveriam ter um ronco. Mas no final decidiram colocar, afinal de contas, eles estão lançando no mercado um veículo que se apresenta como esportivo.

Internamente, o acabamento das portas segue igual do Virtus Highline. Os bancos também “abraçam” e possuem encosto de cabeça integrado ao assento. O logotipo GTS está bordado no material.

Detalhes em vermelho estão presentes no câmbio, costura dos bancos, volante, saída de ar, além do painel. O preto também está nos bancos, teto, laterais da porta e painel.

No painel, as informações também dispõem de tipografia em itálico. Já a central multimídia é igual do Polo GTS, propiciando visualização de informações como cronômetro, temperatura de água e óleo, e pressão turbo, dentre outros.

Ainda há borboletas atrás do volante para trocar de marcha (Paddle Shift). Em geral, não há tanta diferença entre os dois veículos, exceto, óbvio, o design.

Volkswagen

Vale destacar que tanto Virtus quanto Polo podem chegar nas lojas sem a possibilidade de opcionais, ou seja, talvez não será viável incluir teto solar, por exemplo.

O Volkswagen Virtus GTS pode sair mais caro do que o irmão hatch, ficando na casa dos R$ 100 mil.

“O público pediu e a Volkswagen fez! O grande ícone do passado estará de volta. As versões esportivas GTS vão retornar, agora nos modelos Polo e Virtus. Em breve esses esportivos, estarão entre nós!”, disse Pablo Di Si, presidente e CEO da Volkswagen América Latina, em novembro do ano passado.

2020 Nissan Sentra SR Interior Review: Pros and Cons

It’s easy to appreciate an improved new-car design like the 2020 Nissan Sentra, but that beauty is only skin deep. Eventually, you’ll need to actually step inside, use the controls, and drive the car. With Nissan’s new compact sedan, interior updates transform the Sentra from a car that felt years behind the competition to one that’s far more current. After extensive testing with a Sentra SR, here are some key takeaways.

So This Is Considered a Compact?

The 2020 Sentra is spacious. Fitting four people inside is no problem, thanks to a comfortable rear seat with soft front seatbacks. The drivetrain hump is small, which increases the impression of space. But as with any compact sedan, it won’t be your first choice if you have a full car’s worth of people to shuttle around.

One cool advantage: Every 2020 Sentra has a type-A USB port for rear-seat passengers. The base S also gets a type-A USB port in the front, and the SV and SR add a type-C USB port up front.

Materials Quality Verdict

The Sentra also earns points for improved interior materials. As we noted in our First Drive review, even SV models with cloth seats have soft-touch surfaces on the door panels and on the dash topper. More recently, our $25,325 2020 Sentra SR tester easily earned its price tag with those soft-touch materials as well as just the right amount of orange accents for the sport-oriented trim.

We wouldn’t mind more side bolstering in the SR’s seats, however. Then again, the inner bolster on our pre-production tester occasionally rubbed up against the center console—you may not notice this issue on full production-spec models.

Subpar Cupholders

One constant annoyance during our time with the Sentra SR was its cupholders, which lack any grippy material to hold taller water bottles (like the ones you might take to the gym) in place. In the Civic, this isn’t as much of a problem thanks to a slidable panel you can wedge against a deep cupholder.

Impressive Screen Space

Although the base Sentra S has a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display, we’d recommend upgrading to a base SV model if you can. The SV is the sweet spot of the Sentra’s lineup, and it’s also where Nissan upgrades its screens. The infotainment system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality on an 8.0-inch screen, and there’s a 7.0-inch color display in the center of the clean instrument cluster. None of this is revolutionary stuff for the compact class, but it’s admirable for a car with an MSRP under $22,000.

Knobs and a Missing Trunk Handle

One plus: Nissan’s silver HVAC knobs are big, making it easier to use without looking.

The minus? An inside-the-trunk handle would make closing the trunk more convenient—no one wants to touch a dirty car to close a trunk. Oh, and the trunk’s 14.3-cubic-foot capacity is good for the class. You’ll find more space with the Honda Civic and Kia Forte, about the same in the Volkswagen Jetta and Hyundai Elantra, and a bit less in the Toyota Corolla.

A Glassy Curiosity

Taller drivers may be occasionally distracted by a section of the front windshield just under the rearview mirror that distorts the outside world. It’s not directly in the line of sight, and only taller drivers are likely to see it.

The Upscale Models: Pros…

Value remains a key reason to buy a Sentra. With the 2020 model, Nissan reaches higher than it has before, with an SV Premium package that adds—in the words of our First Drive—“gorgeous-looking quilted leather seats with contrasting stitching.”

One awesome interior feature we used all the time on our SR tester was the surround-view camera system (Around View Monitor in Nissan-speak). Displaying on an 8.0-inch screen mounted at the top of the dash, the system works excellently. A split screen prioritizes the front camera (if, say, you’re pulling into a parking space), with the smaller portion of the screen defaulting to a bird’s-eye view stitching together what each camera shows. In other words, you no longer have any excuse for crooked parking jobs.

The best part? The “camera” button to activate the system is an easy-to-find physical button. You’ll only find this feature on SRs with the SR-specific Premium package, which by the way, comes in at just under $25,000 if you forgo a two-tone paint option like the orange-and-black car we recently tested.

…And Cons

Don’t get us wrong: The Nissan excels with value. There’s still room for improvement, however. Higher-end Corollas and Civics both offer eight-way power driver’s seats compared to the six-way power adjustable seat available in the Sentra.

Also, replacing the foot-operated parking brake with an electric parking brake like the one offered on the Civic and Corolla would be a minor convenience owners appreciate on a regular basis.

How to Make Sentra of This Interior

The 2020 Sentra interior is much improved. It has retained its spaciousness and added more soft-touch surfaces and—on most trims—useful tech. It may not be perfect, but there’s more to like for the price than we’ve seen in years with Nissan’s compact sedan.
