Testing, testing... Autocar‘s top new car reviews of 2020
Whether it's a new trim level, an addition to the engine line-up, a complete overhaul or an entirely new model, if it's new we want to drive it. Against the odds, you might say, 2020 has been a particularly busy year for the Autocar reviews desk, with everything from £300,000 SUVs to hybrid superminis passing under our microscope. It's only been on sale since the start of 2020 but already the Puma is well on its way up the bestsellers list. Clearly, See: bluedriver lsb2 review. Ford's pilfering of a hallowed 1990s nameplate for a Fiesta-based crossover was a canny marketing decision, and you know what? Put the curvy old coupé next to its modern namesake on a particularly bendy bit of road, and the taller car won't embarrass itself half as badly as you might expect. Plus, it's got a hidden storage box in the boot and fuel-saving mild hybrid tech. No wonder it only just missed out on a five-star verdict.First there was the Beetle, then came the Golf and now we have this: an all-electric family hatchback that begins Volkswagen's third age but blends elements of the two that came before. Thus, it's a sensibly sized five-door family hatchback (there's your Golf) with a motor at the rear (there's your Beetle) and a charging port on its rear flank (there's your future...). Important, for sure, then. But does it truly move the game along? You can hardly say we've not given the new Defender a good going-over. Fully aware of how crucial the model's successful revival was - not just to Land Rover, but to its hordes of loyal fans - we tested its off-road mettle in Namibia before returning to the UK to try multiple variants on our battered tarmac, stage a vital off-road showdown with its key rivals and then conduct a full road test. The long and short of it? Forget its more rounded edges and higher list price, this is a Land Rover Defender that thoroughly deserves to wear its badge."You're looking at the quickest car in the world." If that sentence doesn't hook you in, we don't know what will. But this is no gratuitously gushing opening salvo; the 641bhp Turbo S variant of the latest Porsche 911 is truly in a class of its own on a point-to-point dash across the twisties, and our tester reckons whatever was joining you for the journey would stay firmly in the rear-view mirror. Whether it's also "the best supercar" in the world is another matter entirely, however...The most potent series-production Golf was always going to cause a stir, and when it promises not just enhanced straight-line performance over its predecessor, but also to excel dynamically, you know it's going to be something special. Our first stint at the helm failed to disappoint, and chances are when it touches down on UK roads in the next few weeks, the Honda Civic Type R will be quaking in its boots.A brand with the esteemed sporting reputation of Porsche was never going to have an easy time launching its first electric car. The original Cayenne, diesel Panamera and four-cylinder-powered 718 were each controversial in their own right, but pale in comparison to the prospect of a 2.3-tonne, four-door EV from Stuttgart - with a Turbo badge on the back, no less. Just as well then, that the Taycan - even in ludicrously quick 751bhp Turbo S guise - manages to conceal the heft of its electric innards to the extent that it can behave like a true sports car that doesn't need the "...and it's electric" caveat. Our 100th Porsche road test and the first EV to land five stars: a milestone indeed. Not one to rest on its laurels, Toyota has completely reinvented its best-selling Yaris supermini. The fourth-generation car doesn't just mark a radical design departure from its predecessor, but also offers more space, improved efficiency and - perhaps most surprisingly - boosted driver appeal. It's one of the priciest cars in its segment courtesy of its hybrid-only powertrain, but with character and charm high on its list of traits, it's a welcome return to form for one of our long-time favourite urban runarounds.Ten years ago, if you'd have said a company called Tesla would be battling another company called Polestar for executive EV supremacy, we'd have told you to go and have a lie...

THE MOST EXCITING CARS OF 2020, AS REVIEWED BY DRIVING.CO.ULAST YEAR was one marked by boredom. Large swathes of it were spent indoors thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, forcing us to take up hobbies like doing jigsaw puzzles, reading books or baking banana bread.
That applied to car reviewers, too: press deliveries were (understandably) halted, launches were pushed back to next year and reveals were taken online.
However, there were periods before and between the various lockdowns during which reviewing resumed, and for short, sweet periods we remembered the thrill of driving new cars. Here are eight of the most exciting models Driving.co.uk tested in 2020.
1. New Land Rover Defender
Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender, needless to say, is one of the most recognisable automotive icons of all time. The old silhouette, famously first conceived as a sketch in the sand, remained relatively unchanged for the better part of a century, meaning that the new one, which doesn’t share a single component with its rugged predecessor, was seen as progress by some and sacrilege by others. Either way, it arrived to nearly impossibly high expectations.
However, the new model, kitted out with modern accoutrements like independent air suspension and 3D cameras, is “leagues better in every way” than its predecessor, reckoned Driving.co.uk editor Will Dron. High praise indeed.
Read our review of the Land Rover Defender here.
2. Volkswagen ID.3
Volkswagen ID.3
Volkswagen can split its eighty-something-year history into three distinct sections, each represented by one of its machines. First was the, erm, problematic conception of the brand with the VW Beetle, a “people’s car” designed by Ferdinand Porsche on the instructions of Adolf Hitler. Second was a period marked by the Golf, the quintessential hatchback and the yardstick against which all family cars are judged.
The third, says VW, began in 2020 with the launch of the ID.3, its electric hatchback. And this car isn’t just a big moment in VW’s canon — it’s one of the biggest PR projects the company has ever undertaken, launching a range of vehicles that aims to mend the still lingering spectre that is the dieselgate scandal. That makes it incredibly important, but is it a good car? Yes, we reckon it is.
Read our review of the Volkswagen ID.3 here.
3. McLaren 765LT
McLaren 765LT
The 765LT sits atop McLaren’s “Super Series”, a role previously held by the 720S — a car described by absolutely zero people as “lacklustre”. However the famously forensic McLaren decided that there were a few milligrams here and there that could be trimmed from the 720S and a few more horsepower to be squeezed out of its 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8. The result is a car that weighs 80kg less and packs 45 more horsepower (Super Series cars are named for their number of horses), with engineering and aero changes to make it even faster round a track.
The result is a car that, in Will Dron’s opinion, “has amphetamines licked”. “Probably”.
Read our review of the McLaren 765LT here.
4. Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
Speaking of fast cars, say hello to the newest version of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. It can reach 60mph in exactly the same time as the aforementioned McLaren 765LT, thanks to its twin-turbo, six-cylinder flat six, its hammer-like torque delivery and the grip offered by its non-optional four wheel drive. It can, if you’re in good and legal conditions, top out at 205mph, and is capable of behaving “like a toddler full of sugar”.
But what impressed Alex Goy the most was the fact that it is capable of all that while offering daily-driver levels of practicality. There’s a good amount of space under the bonnet and if you’re gentle with the accelerator, it can be perfectly polite around town. A true everyday supercar.
Read our review of the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet here.
5. Honda Civic Type R
Honda Civic Type R
When it came to the midlife update of the Civic Type R, Honda’s engineers had the luxury of not having to make too many big overhauls. After the blip that was the FK2 model (the one that came out in 2015), the current model — the FK8, to those in the know — has been seen as Honda’s return to the top of the hot hatch segment. However, the brand has decided to go one step further. Because, why not?
That means that the things that made the Civic Type R great before — the 2.0-litre turbo engine, the precision of the steering, the general sense of fun — are still great, if not incrementally more so, says Kieran Ahuja, while its shortcomings have been addressed. Add in a new — and completely addictive — short throw gear change, and we’re onto a winner.
Read our review of the Honda Civic Type R here.
6. Polestar 2
Polestar 2
Building a car that takes on the Tesla Model 3 is no easy feat. The American brand is, after all, at the forefront of electric vehicle making and the most valuable car company in the world — with the most loyal following. Its entry-level model was even briefly the best-selling car in the UK.
However, take on Tesla is what Polestar set out to do with the Polestar 2. According to Will Dron, it has largely achieved that, thanks to its Greta Thunberg-friendly interior, “immense” infotainment system and the depth of its driving character.
Read our review of the Polestar 2 here.
7. Volvo XC40 Recharge P8
Volvo XC40 Recharge P8
“Fast” might not be the first adjective you reach for when you look at the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8. It looks like a safe, practical, comfortable and sensible family crossover. And Volvo’s first pure-electric production vehicle is all of those things: it’s got a sizeable 452 litres of boot capacity; it can travel 280 miles on a single charge; it recharges rapidly; it’s got world-beating crash safety and driver assists; and it has the same great infotainment system as the aforementioned Polestar 2, with a similarly serene, minimalistic interior.
However, it’s also fast. Very fast. Thanks to four-wheel drive from two powerful electric motors delivering 487 lb ft of torque, it can go from 0-60mph in under five seconds. It’s a car that has the capability to stick your head to the headrest, says Will Dron, but it doesn’t beg you to.
Read our review of the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 here.
8. Rolls-Royce Ghost
Rolls Royce Ghost
The Rolls-Royce Ghost has adopted a new ethos in its latest iteration, one that its creator has labelled “post-opulent”. The car maker’s well-to-do clientele are reportedly no longer interested in the glitz and glamour that it previously embodied, and are now after a more sophisticated, minimalistic way of showing off their incredible wealth.
This posed something of a quandary to the designers and engineers over in Goodwood — their task was to make a car that was not as immediately dazzling as its predecessor but still justifies a price tag of at least £208,000; to make the Ghost as exciting as the outgoing model without making it gaudy. Engineers also had to improve on a car that has been praised as the best to drive among Rolls’ entire line-up. Will Dron was among the first in the world to find out how successful they were

Volkswagen T-Roc R 2020 long-term review
Why we ran it:To see if VW can succeed where rivals have failed and give us a fast crossover that's as good to drive as a hot hatchThis car had a lot of convincing to do, as a £40k-plus motor as well as a 296bhp allwheel-drive Golf R on stilts. Did it succeed? - 2 December 2020I am really going to miss the T-Roc R. I never thought I'd say that about a performance crossover, but there you have it. I've taken a leaf out of this government's book and made a U-turn. The concept of a performance crossover no longer makes my teeth itch with frustration quite like it did before life with this particular Volkswagen.I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, really. Around 6000 miles in any car, let alone one with 296bhp and a 4.8sec 0-62mph time, is likely to inspire some kind of fondness for it. But I'm pleased to report that said attachment isn't just a result of prolonged exposure. For all of the negative connotations that compact crossovers might evoke among enthusiastic drivers, this one has been genuinely enjoyable to live with. Genuinely fun to live with, even. The Mk7 Golf R-based car has certainly seen its fair share of action since landing in the care of the Autocar road test team back in June. Of course, Covid-19 has prevented my road test colleagues from spending quite as much time behind the wheel as they usually would, AD: autel ap200m. but that's not to say I've let it off lightly. In addition to numerous work assignments, it has been through a house move and multiple tip runs, where it proved itself capable of swallowing a surprising amount of clobber, so long as you're clever with your packing. It took me and my housemates camping, too.Not only was the T-Roc R spacious enough to cart the four of us and all our equipment from London to our chosen field, but it also acted as a damn fine shield against the bitterly cold winds that threatened to batter our four-berth throughout the night. Who says camping in late September is a bad idea?Meanwhile, the car's loftier driving position and adaptive dampers made it reasonably comfy over distance. Previous experience shows that adaptive dampers can be tricky to come by in this segment, and without them some rivals have proved to be too stiff and unyielding in how they ride.Volkswagen arrives late at the crossover hatchback party. But can the T-Roc still turn heads in a congested segment? Not so the T-Roc R. Sure, it's noBentley Continental GT , but the added pliancy that Comfort mode brings to the car's on-road demeanour means I've never winced at the idea of having to use it for those longer trips. Unlike some of my colleagues, I haven't been across to mainland Europe in this particular long-termer, but on a 500-mile-plus weekend trip to North Devon and back it was relaxing enough. Yes, it could make a point of clattering over some rougher sections of rural back road, but such intrusions were never bothersome. In fact, it's on these tighter, more technical sorts of roads that the T-Roc R is most in its element. Here, you can really revel in its grip, body control and pace. Even in particularly adverse conditions, this remains an entertaining and confidence-inspiring car to pilot; and although it might be slightly taller and heavier than a Golf R, the T-Roc R gives up very little dynamism and outright competence to its hatchback relation. Having driven both back to back for a previous report, it's nice to be able to say that with absolute confidence, too.I suppose the only real-world test the T-Roc R hasn't been put through is its annual service, but the powers that be have decreed it's time for the VW to leave the fleet. It's a bit unfortunate that we're unable to comment on this aspect of the ownership experience, but for what it's worth, the car has been faultless during its time with us. Aside from topping up the screenwash and treating it to the odd clean, the T-Roc R hasn't required any work at all – and I'm sure we'd be saying the same thing in a year's time if it did stick around a while longer.Of course, everyday use has revealed a few gripes, although none is too serious. The plasticky interior is still a source of disappointment, but this is m...

Review update: The 2020 Volkswagen GTI's swan song hits all the best notes
One of the top five cars I drove in 2014 was practically as old as I am.
I found it in an oceanside parking lot, alongside a row of old Volkswagens. It fired up with a fitful sputter and also found initially with less self-confidence than an American Organization pitcher at-bat. When the cars and truck was alive, I never ever desired the drive to end. The 1983 Volkswagen Bunny GTI is the archetype for budget bliss behind the wheel and to be clear, an automotive legend. [auto bady parts]I love that auto as well as foolishly attempted to lick a New York subway turnstile to purchase one for much less than $10,000. To simply drive one once more, I wouldn't lick a turnstile (not currently) however would certainly take into consideration comparable stupid acts with less saliva included. To be fair, the 2020 VW GTI is on the Rabbit GTI's family history however relevant like Thomas Jefferson is to Jefferson Plane-- really, name only. I didn't expect the same life-affirming drive however expected a smile or more.
With an upgraded GTI on the way next year, I offered one last drive to the 2020 GTI. The 2020 Golf earned a 6.7 TCC Ranking, based greatly on the GTI. We noted the hatchback's eager efficiency, great functions as well as service warranty, as well as functionality.
Here's what I discovered in the GTI without licking anything in it. At the very least as for I agree to confess. For everything that's changed about the GTI, something has actually continued in nearly 40 years-- a chunky, free-revving inline-4. The 2020 GTI gets a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that produces 228 horsepower at 4,700 rpm but wringing it out beyond that is even more rewarding. When the tach needle swings past midday, the GTI's turbo comes on full tune up until 6,000 rpm. [click to shop]The 2020 GTI is a delight to drive and it's more engaging than anything else VW sells. Although the Golf R was a better performer, the GTI has actually been more friendly and lift-off oversteer is terrifyingly underrated as well as additionally great.

Cars Renault will launch in South Africa in 2020
Renault South Africa will be launching several new models later this year despite severe delays in production due to the coronavirus pandemic. The refreshed line-up of new cars for the local market includes an ultra-sporty Megane RS model as well as enhanced crossovers and SUVs.
Over the past five years, Renault South Africa has increased its share of the local new car market thanks to the introduction of the popular Kwid. Its Sandero range has also helped the French brand grow at the entry-level end of the market. Speaking at the launch of the refreshed Kwid compact car in Johannesburg late last year, Renault South Africa's marketing and communications vice president Jesus Boveda confirmed that the company was fifth-largest in SA in terms of new vehicle sales, with aspirations to climb a few rungs higher on the ladder.
These are the cars the brand will bring to SA to help its ascent...
Looking to pick fights with the recently facelifted Honda Civic Type R (we're awaiting confirmation that it's still coming in 2020) and the recently introduced Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, the new Renault Megane Trophy will add some excitement to the performance hatch market.
Renault confirmed earlier this week that the 221kW hot hatch will feature breakthrough exhaust system technologies, bi-material brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential and, most importantly, a firmer chassis for more precise control and handling.
The previous generation Megane RS Trophy was simply astounding to drive, with an Akrapovic exhaust at the back and a trick intake system upfront giving it a roar like no other factory-tuned hot hatch at that time.
The new Megane RS Trophy will also come with an F1-inspired splitter under its front bumper, a wide rear diffuser, bespoke hatch spoiler and custom central exhaust tips. 19-inch Jerez wheels with high-performance Bridgestone tyres also come standard.
Three Family-focused options confirmed.
Renault will be launching updated versions of its Koleos mid-size SUV and its Duster compact SUV during the third quarter of 2020. While mechanical treatment will be kept minimal, you can expect a smart styling update as well as tweaks to the interior. Exact specifications and the grade walk will be made available closer to the time of launch.
For those consumers who want to keep the budget tight, but without compromising on style, comfort and safety, Renault SA will also bring an updated Sandero Stepway to market later this year. Bearing the TechRoad nomenclature we first saw on the Duster, the new Sandero Stepway will serve to keep compact hatchback buyers satisfied until the all-new fifth-generation Clio arrives.
The best new models are still to come
While news that the updated Megane RS, Koleos, Duster and Sandero Stepway coming to SA this year remains exciting for the company and consumers, considering the state of the world, the fifth-generation Clio and the all-new Captur might not make it to SA this year, but they are still on the horizon...
Delays in production as well as pent up demand for these new vehicles in other parts of the world hint at a 2021 introduction for us, however if things change in the coming months, Renault SA will still look to bring the new compact hatch and the compact SUV to Group 1 Renault this year.
"These are models that have a good track record and are quite revered in some instances. The above-mentioned models are refreshing the range, staying fresh, staying relevant and staying appealing to meet and exceed customers needs and expectations," the company's media relations manager, Viviene Ward, says.
She adds that Renault SA will push to offer even better value for customers in the coming months: "Ongoing, extensive work goes into monitoring the competitive environment with the main aim to position ourselves to stand out in terms of value for money. One example of being sensitive to these challenging times is the offer we are running on the Kwid range that includes 1-year's worth of comprehensive car insurance, a 2-year Service Plan, and a 5-year mechanical warranty from only R1999pm.
"Another is the Sandero range that now offers customers a payment break of up to six months and it still comes with a 2-year Service Plan and 5-year mechanical warranty.”

Volkswagen Golf Estate 2020 review
Are you considering buying an electric car? There hasn't always been a Golf Estate. In fact, it wasn't untilthe third-generation Golfthat Volkswagen decided buyers might warm to the added versatility of such a model.Since 1993, though, it has been a mainstay ofVolkswagen'sline-up, You may need: autel scanner mk808 review. growing ever larger and offering greater load space in each iteration. This latest one continues that theme , being 71mm longer than its predecessor, at 4633mm. The wheelbase gets 67mm of that extra stretch, the rear overhang the rest. It's a moderate increase but rectifies one of this model's weaknesses over the years: rear leg room, which has increased by 38mm.Load space has risen, too, if only by six litres to 611 litres under the cargo blind. Overall, the Golf has 1642 litres, 22 more than before, when the split folding rear seat is down. By comparison, the Ford Focus Estateoffers 608-1653 litres. The roomy interior mirrors that ofthe Mk8 Golf hatchback , with a contemporary new dashboard that's big on touchscreen digital controls and less so on physical switches. There is a lot of hard plastic within the upper section of the fascia, but it all appears well put together. The new estate has the same range of three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as the hatch, too, including 48V mild-hybrid petrols. Traditionally, though, diesels have underpinned UK sales. The more powerful of the 2.0-litre TDI models driven here, with its standard seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, adopts the twin-dosing AdBlue process with two SCR catalysts to cut NOx output. It is rather chattery on start-up in cooler temperatures. But with 148bhp and 265lb ft, it gets off the line with urgency and is highly flexible on the move. A combined 70.6mpg promises a range of well over 700 miles as well. The handling is very benign, with light but accurate steering, well-contained body roll and quite good front grip. It rides well, although the added cabin volume amplifies road noise more than in the hatchback. It's not particularly exciting, but what it lacks in dynamic flair, it makes up for in overall versatility and everyday usefulness. This is the automotive equivalent of a sensible pair of shoes: dependable in just about every situation without ever threatening to stand out in a crowd. Not sure why VAG seem intent on making their estates look like hatchbacks giving them tiny rear windows? It ruins the proportions from the side. I've always found estates quite attractive from a side profile, so not sure why they try and make it look like a hatchback which arguably look worse. The Golf shape does not translate well into estate cars. This one is no exception, though not the worst (that was the hideous bulbous Golf 5)The Golf shape does not translate well into estate cars. This one is no exception, though not the worst (that was the hideous bulbous Golf 5)Given the upright, estate like, rear of the hatchback, you would think it would be easy to extend the body back, put a similar rear end to the hatchback on it and job done. Instead the estates always look droopy and very much an afterthought. Why are Golf estates always so drab? Gti or R estate would a great family car but looks so uglyPersonally I am not a fan of the switchless dash, it may be considered to look cluttered to have them but I would prefer tactile switches to a touch screen, although I do quite like the look and style of the dash, it looks neat and tidy but I don't thing a few buttons for HVAC etc would look out of place. The colour does it no favours as I actually think this looks better than the hatch, unlike others here I think it looks a more cohesive design, not keen on the wheels though, and the best bit is that it exists at all with the continued march of SUVs replacing normal cars everywhere.Another car that is outgrowing my garage. Every time I find one I like, the manufacturer stretches it. Damn them.Mind you, all of that touch and wave interface had already put me off this golf iteration. Bring back knobs and buttons where you can be sure of getting the right one.I agree that the down-sloping rear roof is stupid. If it swept the...

Hot Hatch Heartbreak: Volkswagen Golf R Discontinued for 2020
Tumblr media
Yesterday, Volkswagen announced changes to its lineup for the 2020 model year, which mainly revolved around standardizing active driver assistance tech. When we combed through the release, we noticed the Golf R wasn’t outlined so we assumed that Volkswagen was either going to release a separate announcement or the car carried over unchanged. Unfortunately, neither of those are the case. The Volkswagen Golf R has been discontinued for 2020. A Volkswagen spokesman confirmed to MotorTrend that the all-wheel-drive Golf R has officially ended production, leaving the Golf GTI as the hottest model. The Golf R is expected to return when the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf debuts. It’s rumored to feature a more potent 2.0-liter turbo-four that reportedly makes well over 300 hp, giving the Golf R more separation from the Golf GTI, which could only see a minor power bump if any at all. An updated MQB platform will underpin the eighth-generation Golf family.

Earlier this year, we reported that the next-generation Golf Mk 8 might only come in two flavors when it arrives in the U.S., the Golf GTI and Golf R. Both models are confirmed to come Stateside but other models including the base Golf and wagon variants are still under consideration. Earlier this year, Volkswagen announced the discontinuation of the Golf SportWagen and Golf Alltrack, both of which will be replaced by a small crossover in the U.S. market. The all-electric e-Golf will be replaced by the ID hatchback. The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf is expected to debut before the end of 2019. However, it will go on sale in Europe first, with North America and other markets to follow. DEAD: Golf R 🇩🇪 ______________________________________   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ [8/7/19] For 2020, the Golf R is DEAD as it is no longer part of the Golf lineup! The Golf is getting loads of changes as we await the all new Mk8 Golf! The US market has dropped all Golf variants except the GTi due to poor sales and for now there will be a Value model to hold off buyers.   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏁 @Allcarnews Spec sheet: The current Golf R packs a Turbo 2.0L 4 cylinder making around 288HP and 280 lb-ft of torque going to all four wheels through a 6speed manual or a 7 speed DCT. 🏁   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So is the Golf R gone for good? NO! We expect to see a next generation Golf R on the Mk8 platform! But the Golf for the US is up in limbo as we most likely will only get the GTi and next Golf R and not any standard versions of the iconic hatchback. The Mk8 Golf should be unveiled in October as a 2020 model but we should get it as a 2021 model. ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: Should VW make a 300+HP Golf R as standard? ________________________________________ -Text by @allcarnews -Images by VW   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #Golf #Volkswagen #GolfR #GTi #USA #Germany #4motion #VW #Quattro #TDI #carbon ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #supercharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #CarLifeStyle #MadWhips #CupGang #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 An #allcarnews post https://www.instagram.com/p/B03_1CwhQhT/?igshid=ygj86ifzqao4

VW Golf SportWagen and Alltrack bow out after 2019 If you want a Golf SportWagen, now’s the time to get yours. Volkswagen Canada has confirmed the 2019 model will be the last sold in Canada, as the company shifts its production focus to building a new compact SUV. A Volkswagen Canada spokesperson confirmed the Golf family is “transitioning from the seventh to the eighth generation,” but while timing and availability of the new models has yet to be determined, there will be a full 2020 model year of the Golf, GTI and e-Golf. The factory is also allotting extra production of the 2019 Golf R, SportWagen and Alltrack, with the goal of having these models available at dealerships through most of the 2020 calendar year. In the U.S., it’s possible the base Golf will be dropped, according to publication Motor1, with only the next-generation GTI and Golf R available there. The Alltrack and SportWagen are also in jeopardy south of the border. In 2018, the GTI outsold the base Golf hatchback by almost three to one in the U.S., with only 6,642 base hatchbacks finding new homes. The Golf does much better here, selling more than 17,000 copies last year. Our Volkswagen Canada rep also said the company “will introduce successor models as they become available,” which could possibly mean that while the SportWagen and Alltrack are going away, there’s a chance they could also eventually be coming

Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback Killed by Venue and Kona Crossovers
One of our favorite affordable hatchbacks is saying goodbye, and we’re not at all ready to see it go. Hyundai will discontinue the Elantra GT in the U.S. after the 2020 model year to focus on its growing crossover lineup.
Hyundai said the decision was “due to [an] expanded SUV lineup that includes Venue and Kona.” It’s a shame that Hyundai is sacrificing the Elantra GT, because we always viewed it as a great crossover alternative thanks to its spacious rear seats, cavernous cargo capacity, and strong visibility. We also love that the hatchback is nimble, relatively quiet, and fun to take around a corner.
This also marks the end of the road for the even-more-entertaining Elantra GT N Line. Along with a more powerful engine making 201 horsepower, this variant offers a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission. In a nutshell, it’s a cheaper, and arguably just-as-fun-to-drive Volkswagen GTI alternative. Those looking for spirited performance may want to consider the upcoming Elantra N Line sedan, which looks promising based on early teaser photos. And let’s not forget about the raucous, three-door Hyundai Veloster N, which delivers a standard 275 horsepower for the new model year.
Also ensuring this news stings? We were hoping that the Elantra GT would receive the same upscale treatments as the recently updated i30 hatchback for Europe. This refreshed sister model to the U.S. car features attractively slim headlights and an assertive grille, plus more up-to-date interior tech. But instead of getting some much-needed TLC, the Elantra GT joins the Ford Focus ST, Volkswagen Golf R, and many other delectable hatches in the grave. We will continue to mourn these fine cars felled by taller, less fun, but apparently more popular crossovers and SUVs.
