The company notes that the all-wheel drive kit is currently only compatible with the 6.8-liter V10 petrol engine. It is not necessarily a bad thing. Even though the 10-cylinder is thirsty, it has enough power and torque to move you and yours over boulders.

The Swiss-made Noroader runs on a proven semi-trailer chassis when it comes to durability. It is equipped with a high-performance turbodiesel engine that delivers all the torque you could ever need.

The list of equipment reads like a manual for survivors. The Noroader offers LED searchlights, satellite television and Internet, a 4,000 watt diesel generator, an outdoor kitchen, a hydraulic platform for an ATV or a motorcycle, and three separate fuel tanks with a total capacity of 317 gallons. There are three suspension settings to choose from, which are called up on the road, on the bad road and off-road. It's difficult outside, but the living spaces look like a luxurious apartment. And as a bonus, it is so big that you are sure to have the best view in the house no matter how far you are from the grid.

Volkswagen EuroVan

The Volkswagen EuroVan is the direct descendant of the bus hippies who were claimed to be their own in the 1960s. The engine is in the front and not in the back, making the interior larger and correspondingly more comfortable for sleeping in it for days or weeks. Volkswagen offered different versions of the EuroVan. Some were passenger models with three rows of seats, while others were equipped with the coveted option Westphalia and were built at the factory for camping purposes. You'll probably spend less on a passenger, but you'll need to convert him into a camper. The more expensive Westphalia, however, is a turnkey solution.

Volkswagen sold the EuroVan between the 1999 and 2003 model years. American models were given a robust 2.8-liter VR6 engine with 140 hp. Engine options include a 4.0-liter V6 with 261 hp and a 5.6-liter V8 with 375 hp, which is shared with the titanium pickup. We recommend choosing the eight, and here's why: you'll equip your NV with a bed, closets, a sink, and maybe even a small kitchen. These properties inevitably increase weight. Chances are that your adventures will take you to higher altitudes. You can even climb one or two mountain passes. Get the extra strength; You will not regret it.

Nissan is charging $ 29,980 for a brand new NV. Examples used start around $ 15,000.

2020 Ford Transit First Look: Keeping Transit Vantastic

Ford boasts that it has topped the van-sales charts in the U.S. for more than 40 years. That’s pretty remarkable, considering that the E-Series van responsible for most of those sales has only seen four redesigns in its 58 years of production (yes, it’s still in production, but only in stripped chassis-cab guise). In 2014 the Euro-designed Transit van—then a 49-year-old nameplate that was just starting its fourth generation—became Ford’s mainstream van offering in the U.S., as well. Now, rather than letting the Transit languish for 16 or 27 years like the last two E-Series generations (or 31 years like the first-gen British Transit!), Ford is keeping this Transit fresh. A major mid-cycle upgrade for 2020 modifies 53 percent of the vehicle and includes two new engines, a new transmission, the option of all-wheel drive, a slew of new driver assistance and safety systems, and a freshening of the interior and exterior that includes 28 new buildable configurations (for a total of 92!). Will these nips, tucks, and alterations keep Transit at the pointy end of the sales chart?

Powertrain Upgrades

New 3.5-liter PFDi V-6

Replacing the base 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V-6 is this new port- and direct-injected gasoline V-6 engine, essentially a version of the F-150’s 3.3-liter with its bore increased from 90.4 to 92.5 mm. The engine features most of the second-generation architectural upgrades recently applied to the F-150 engines and adds roller-followers to reduce friction in the valvetrain. The engine can be equipped with two 250-amp alternators to power upfit options (as can the twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, which gets auto stop/start but otherwise carries over unchanged). For now the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter is exclusive to the Transit. Final power and torque figures were not released as of press time, but given that the 3.3-liter version produces 290 hp and 265 lb-ft, it’s safe to assume customers will see a comfortable bump up from the old 3.7-liter’s 275 hp and 260 lb-ft.

New 2.0-liter EcoBlue Bi-turbodiesel I-4

Replacing the 3.2-liter Power Stroke I-5 turbodiesel is a smoother, quieter, more fuel-efficient four-cylinder that global Transits (and the recent Ranger Raptor) have used for three years. It features a small turbo that builds boost quickly to eliminate the sense of turbo lag, and a larger one that does the heavy lifting at higher engine speeds. This engine also features auto stop/start. Cool fact: Its pistons are cast, cooled, and then re-melted in their forms to remove impurities. Output has not been announced, but in the Euro Transit it makes 210 hp and 369 lb-ft—again, a noticeable bump up from the 3.2-liter’s 185 hp and 350 lb-ft.

10-Speed Automatic

Here again we have a variation on the 10-speed fitted to the F-150 pickups, with modifications primarily to suit the packaging requirements of the van. The Transit’s steering rack location drove a relocation of the controller unit, and the case had to be modified to permit a direct all-wheel-drive power takeoff on the passenger side (the F-150 routes torque forward on the driver side, via a bolt-on transfer case). The gear ratios themselves are very close to those in the F-150.

All-Wheel Drive

This single-speed system is available with either the new 3.5-liter base engine or the carryover twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. Torque is generally split 50/50, but it can send nearly all available torque to the front axle if conditions demand, and the system includes mud/ruts and slippery drive modes. All-wheel drive does not alter either the floor height/shape or the ride height.

Safety and Driver Assistance Upgrades

Every new 2020 Transit cargo and passenger van will get the following as standard equipment:

Interior and Exterior Upgrades

A completely new dash provides myriad cupholders, bins, and cubbies, USB jacks, and a choice of full color central screens: 4.0-inch or freestanding 8.0-inch color touchscreen like the one in the new Explorer. Grab handles ease front ingress without compromising visibility, new vents better direct heated and cooled air, and ergonomics are generally improved. New colors include Ebony Black and Palazzo Gray. Swiveling front seats are available at the request of recreational-vehicle customers (with an 11,000-pound gross-vehicle-weight rating for the chassis-cab, it’s a popular RV upfit candidate). There’s also a new five-passenger Crew Van configuration that mounts a three-seat second-row bench in front of a cargo bulkhead, with curtain airbag protection for all outboard passengers (a segment first). Strangely enough, the three-across front bench is not available with the rear bench, because the center console design (one of three) chosen for the Crew Van is incompatible. New grab handles at the rear cargo door provide assistance without reducing the width of the opening.

Connectivity

Both of the aforementioned screens support the latest SYNC 3 operating system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Standard on all Transits is a FordPass Connect modem offering 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity for 10 devices, and fleet customers can opt for new Ford Telematics and Ford Data Services—a suite of tools to help optimize fleet efficiency with order-to-delivery status reporting, geofencing with alerts, and key performance indicators. It can even report potential fuel waste and provide coaching to reduce it. Managers can get maintenance reminders and vehicle-health alerts, simplifying the process of scheduling service to maximize uptime.

Exterior

Three new grille designs are tailored to the different variants, with twin-turbo models getting the largest one for improved cooling. These are flanked by revised lights that include high-intensity discharge illumination and LED surround lighting on wagons. A power-sliding door is now available, and as mentioned, the total number of buildable configurations (wheelbases, roof heights, 150/350 capacity, door types, seating arrangements, cargo/passenger/chassis-cab/cutaway, drivetrains, etc.) expands from 64 to 92.

Look for the upgraded Transit to start shipping to Ford’s 3,000 dealers (including 675 fleet dealers) this fall, and with Ford and VW poised to collaborate on commercial vans going forward, we’ve probably seen the last of multi-decade product cycles.

2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty Tremor First Look: Earth-Moving Off-Road Package?

Ford is entering yet another truck niche with the Tremor, a factory off-road package for its 2020 F-Series Super Duty truck lineup. This is not a desert-racing Raptor performance companion, rather it is for the F-250 and F-350 heavy-duty truck owner who steers toward rocks and mud, maybe with a trailer full of ATVs in the back.

When it comes to top-end trims and packages, it seems there is no ceiling in today’s truck world and Ford is happy to oblige wherever it sees a sliver of an opportunity to offer something new. The automaker looked at the thousands of dollars that Super Duty buyers spend on aftermarket parts and decided more of that money should stay in-house.

Ford executives say 70 percent of customers accessorize their trucks, spending anywhere from about $2,000 to $10,000 or more. Their research shows 15 percent of F-250 and F-350 owners take off their factory wheels and tires within the first six months and buy more capable off-road wheels and tires. Some put lift kits on, or suspension upgrades.

Rather than create an off-road version of Super Duty, Ford decided to offer the most popular upgrades as a package, thus maintaining similar payload and towing capacity. The Tremor package is positioned above FX4 in price and capability. FX4 is an appearance and somewhat functional package for F-Series, and Tremor takes the concept a bit further, as opposed to the F-150 Raptor which is a different vehicle. Ford expects half of its future Super Duty buyers will opt for either the FX4 or Tremor off-road package.

The truck team says buyers would like to buy a lifted truck with an upgraded suspension, bigger shocks, wheels and tires, and more off-road tech ruck this way from the factory and save themselves the effort. It remains to be seen how true this is, as this is a buyer segment that likes to tinker with their toys themselves. Pricing has not been announced, but marketers will have to be somewhat delicate and not price the package beyond what DIYers could afford to do themselves with aftermarket parts.

The name is not new. Ford offered a 2014 Tremor: a single model year F-150 sport truck with a regular cab, short box, and more performance than standard models with a lighter body and twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. While this is a far different application, Ford officials felt the catchy name fits well with a heavy-duty, off-road truck. The Tremor name appears on the side of the pickup box and on the shocks; nowhere inside. Ford would love to see the Tremor name gain the same kind of recognition as Raptor.

The Tremor package will be offered on trim levels from XLT up, which constitutes about 70 percent of the lineup. It is for retail only, and not offered on the base XL which is essentially a work truck designed for fleet customers.

The package is only for 4×4 single-rear-wheel SuperCrew trucks with a 6.75-foot box as this configuration is most conducive to going off-road. Almost three quarters of Super Duty sales are single rear wheel and the FX4 package is available for duallies. F-250 models must also have the high-capacity trailer tow package.

The 2020 Super Duty lineup, which received a midcycle refresh and goes on sale this fall, is notable for the addition of a new 7.3-liter V-8 gasoline engine known as Godzilla. Ford continues to offer a diesel; the 6.7-liter Power Stroke now in its third generation.

With the same grunt as the rest of the lineup—specs have not been released—trucks with the Tremor package will have similar, but slightly less, payload and towing ratings than the rest of the 2020 Super Duty lineup. This makes it a strong competitor against the Ram Power Wagon that can crawl up or over almost anything.  And GMC is expected to offer an off-road version of their Sierra HD.

The Tremor package offers an upgraded suspension and bigger shocks tuned by Ford. The rear stabilizer bar is tuned for a lower spring rate when the body is twisted like a pretzel over a rockbed. The truck has custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers tuned for soft damping at low speeds.

There is a locking rear differential with electronic shift-on-the-fly and up front is a new Dana limited-slip front differential. When a tire loses traction, the brakes can send power to the wheel with traction.

Off-road running boards have been raised and tuck up next to the body to keep them intact on the trail and there are holes to make it easier to hose them down. Running boards are retractable on the top-end Platinum trim level. The Tremor borrows the same skid plates used on FX4 models.

Tremors can ford water up to 33 inches deep, which puts it just under the headlights. The package provides 10.8 inches of ground clearance with the huge tires and a 30mm lift in the front and 40mm lift in the rear and unique axle geometry to accommodate the factory lift. The front air dam was raised 5 inches to improve the approach which is now a 31.65-degree approach it has a 24.51 departure angle.

The package wraps 35-inch Goodyear Wrangle Duratrac maximum-traction all-terrain tires, the largest Ford has ever put on a heavy-duty pickup, around 18-inch matte-finish black wheels.

Trail Control, which is essentially cruise control for off-roading, migrates from the F-150 Raptor and Ranger to the Super Duty for the first time. The Tremor package adds a rock-crawl mode optimized to operate in 4×4 low. The new 10-speed TorqShift heavy-duty automatic transmission with the gas engine has a 53:1 crawl ratio while those with the diesel have a 44:1 crawl ratio.

Ford’s Trailer Reverse Guidance camera system has been extended beyond conventional trailers to also work with goose neck and fifth wheel trailers and the Super Duty now gets the Pro Trailer Backup Assist that is on the F-150.

With a sale date near the end of the year, it will be awhile before we get exact specs and pricing but stay tuned: we will get them to you.
